Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen at the LA ‘Wild’ premiere: lovely or blah?

Here are some photos of last night’s LA premiere of Wild, Reese Witherspoon’s “Oscar hopeful.” Reese has a much better chance at getting an Oscar nomination than Jennifer Aniston, actually. Reese has made it to most Best Actress shortlists. I’m including photos of Reese, Wild author Cheryl Strayed and Laura Dern. Dern plays Reese’s mom in the movie.

I’m also including some close-ups of Reese’s absolutely GREAT jewelry p0rn. I’m not sure if that rock is her engagement ring plus some eternity bands or if she borrowed those jewels, but they are great. Her sapphire earrings are amazing too. Reese’s dress is Zac Posen and she’s wearing nude Louboutins. I’m not really into the dress, but it’s alright. Is it just me or does Reese’s bust look…larger? Padding or bolt-ons?

Meanwhile, Reese took part in this year’s THR Actress Roundtable, which was just a roundtable of white ladies. Seriously, there are no notable women of color in film this year? The roundtable featured Amy Adams, Laura Dern, Patricia Arquette, Felicity Jones and more. You can read THR’s coverage here, I haven’t read the whole thing yet, I confess. During the discussion, the conversation came around to Renee Zellweger’s new face, Reese piped up:

The sprawling conversation covered interesting ground, and the actresses touched on a few hot-button Hollywood issues, including Renée Zellweger, who was the victim of disturbingly harsh criticism last month after some Internet users suggested that the actress’s face appeared different.

“It’s cruel and rude and disrespectful,” Witherspoon said of the Internet’s criticism of Zellweger. “It bothers me immensely . . . I know this is so Pollyanna of me, but why—and it’s particularly women—why do they have to tear women down? And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up? . . . Like, this one looks great without her makeup but that one doesn’t look good without her makeup, and it’s all just a judgment and assault that I don’t—look, men are prey to it as well. I just don’t think it’s with the same sort of ferocity.”

[From Vanity Fair]

As CB and I both said at the time, it was absolutely human nature to simply NOTICE that Renee has a new face. I say it’s human nature to comment on it too, like “Wow, she’s had some work done.” Renee’s old face made her a very rich woman and she won tons of awards because of her stellar acting. Her old face was part of her brand, and she messed with her brand when she changed her face (and then blatantly lied about it). I think falling back on some kind of “that’s sexist!!!” argument IS Pollyanna. It’s the new thing that so many celebrity women are doing now – they think crying sexism is a magic wand they can wave over a conversation to shut down legitimate conversation/criticism of their behavior. And if any of you disagree with me, that’s SO SEXIST.

HER OUTFIT IS SO BORING! I do love her earrings though.

  2. Venuslotus says:

    Those earrings! Drools.

  3. kri says:

Holy mother, her boobs look big from the side. Could just be the cantilevered bust of the dress, tho. But WHY, whyyyyyy those shoes??! Come on. man. Your shoe game is the opposite of crazy-The Mentalist will NOT be looking for you. If she can swing that jewelry she could have swung some shoes.

  4. Abbott says:

    WOMEN ARE AMERICAN CITIZENS, TOO!

  5. Courtney says:

OMG on the jewelry. And I’m not even that in to jewelry. But those rings are EVERYTHING to me. Avril Lavigne can keep her 15 carat fugly rock (or however big it was), I want Reese’s.

  6. Courtney says:

And don’t talk about Reese’s boobs, because so feminist, much sexist.

  7. FingerBinge other ways to er says:

I like the dress. I’d like it even more if it didn’t have a cape.

  8. Kaye says:

The dress looks pale pink in some pictures, but it surely isn’t, because: orange lipstick?

At any rate, I don’t think this color lipstick flatters her regardless of her dress color.

  9. mimi says:

    I think she looks great!

  10. lindy79 says:

Where is Corey Stoll?? Hes in this mess too (and i totally would)

  11. themummy says:

I think she looks pregnant. From the side, especially. Could explain her boobies, too. Huh. I wonder. Being pregnant sure would boost her Oscar chase, I bet, if for no other reason than the sheer extra attention. It could just be the fit of the dress, I guess.

    • JenniferJustice says:

She’s not pregnant. She has always had a big bust and a bit of a pooch belly. I’ll probably be accused of body shaming now. No shaming, just stating a fact. Most people don’t have perfect bodies. She has a nice bust and you can’t have everything, so…..

  12. Mean Hannah says:

The dress and shoes are boring but I can see why she chose them – to show off her face & earrings! I think from neck up, she looks amazing and I love the lipstick!

Re other actresses defending Renee and crying sexism – it’s really about defending their kind and ultimately, themselves. It’s just an easy, selfish reaction and I can’t really fault them for it. I work in an industry & genre that is often under “attack” from outsiders and your first instinct is to defend your peoples, rightly or wrongly and logically or illogically.

  13. RobN says:

Dress looks to me like something that looks great in person, but the details don’t photograph well. The earrings are just gorgeous.

  14. lucy2 says:

Renee’s difference was so noticeable, I don’t think you can expect no one to comment on it or question it. Did it deserve the huge attention it got? Probably not, but not ignoring it is not sexist. I will agree with her on this though: “And why do we have to tear other women down to build another woman up?”
She looks great and those earrings are gorgeous.

  15. Kristen says:

How does she have no crow’s feet? I’m jealous.

    • Becky1 says:

Botox! It really works. I used to get it done-now I don’t and my crow’s feet are unfortunately back. Oh, well-I’m 42 and tired of spending the money plus I started to worry about the ramifications of injecting poison into my face a few times a year.

  16. applapoom says:

    She looks beautiful. And smug.

    Amazing ring.

  17. HoustonGrl says:

I don’t think “feminism” and “sexism” should be used as a carte blanche to protect the image of wealthy celebrities. It’s really become the catch-all PR defense for women in Hollywood. The fact is, these celebrities are condemning the very stereotypes that they promulgate.

  18. Jenna says:

I was actually thinking she looks a bit bigger all over—pregnant???

I really hope this movie tanks and does not win any awards. The book’s popularity has not been good for the PCT.

    • Dara says:

@Jenna – I remember reading an excerpt of this book (in Vogue maybe?) and side-eyed the whole endeavor. An emotionally damaged, impulsive, woefully unprepared woman decides to solo hike the PCT on a whim – with seemingly no research, training, trial runs or common sense – and then has to ‘overcome’ the self-inflicted discomfort and danger. Puh-lease. Nothing about that scenario seems remotely inspirational or aspirational to me. Why was the story so popular, what am I missing?

  19. TeresaMaria says:

Where is the picture of Michiel Huisman?
He is definitely the best part of this film. For me.

  20. Brittany says:

That is her actual engagement ring. And stacked bands. SO gorgeous. I love them.

  21. maddelina says:

    She looks really pretty.
