Pirates of the Caribbean 3 sucks, say critics

The advance reviews are out for Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and they are not good at all. Critics say the bloated third movie in the Pirates series, which clocks in at 15 minutes short of three mind-numbing hours, is almost impossible to follow, with a complicated plot and weird negotiations between pirates that one can’t keep track of. The special effects are amazing and well done, but they’re just not enough to carry this film, which is just as boring if not more so than the last one.

Here are some selected critic quotes via Rotten Tomatoes:

  • “It won’t matter whether you’ve seen the first two Pirates movies or not. You’ll still be confused.”
    – Gene Seymour, Newsday

  • “A convoluted, ponderous, joyless spectacle whose lack of charm is matched only by its incoherence.”
    – Frank Swietek, One Guy’s Opinion

  • “Bloated beyond comprehension, overplotted to the point of aggravation, and about as soulless as a ship captain specter, [the film] is a total mess.”
    – Dustin Putman, TheMovieBoy.com

  • “POTC:AWE is a lukewarm maelstrom of secret agendas, double crossings, tricky alliances, back stabbings, political conspiracies, warring factions, etc. — none of which is the least bit captivating or, by and large, comprehensible.”
    – Nathan Lee, The Village Voice

The film has a current 56% aggregate critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is just about the same as the second one. Dead Man’s Chest received a 54% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it still kicked ass at the box office. I’m sure this one will break records, and bore countless people, too.
