Prince Harry reveals a big ‘secret’ for the Sentebale ‘Feel No Shame’ campaign

Today is World AIDS Day. It’s also Cyber Monday here in America, which is what American businesses call the Monday after Thanksgiving, which is usually the biggest shopping day online. Many businesses (like Apple) are trying to join Cyber Monday with World AIDS Day, and offer products that partly support AIDS charities. It’s clever, I suppose. It’s a way to feel good about donating to charity while still avoiding having a larger conversation about HIV/AIDS and what the global community can do to stop AIDS in our lifetime.

Here’s what I like: Prince Harry isn’t trying to get people to buy something. Harry is actually trying to raise awareness and start a conversation about the AIDS crisis and he’s doing it in a very personal way. Harry started the Sentebale charity years ago, aimed at improving the lives of children in Lesotho. For this year’s World AIDS Day, Harry is using Sentebale to launch the Feel No Shame Campaign. There are thousands – if not millions – of people living with HIV who are too ashamed to acknowledge that they need help or treatment, so Harry Feel No Shame Campaign aims to destigmatize all of the shame. He posted this video:

Harry’s secret is that he’s nervous and anxious in crowds (only when he’s wearing a suit) and when he has to make a public speech. He’s adorable, isn’t he? That voice. That ginger hair. Adorable. Anyway, this is a great campaign, and I hope the aim is to make #FeelNoShame go viral.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail’s sources say that Prince Harry is going to return to full-time active duty after spending much of 2014 on desk duty (following his two tours in Afghanistan). The Mail’s sources say he will return to the Army Air Corps to fly helicopters again, and that he’ll probably need six months of training to get back into shape. Apparently, the royal courtiers were disturbed by how much time Harry has had to party (he was photographed smoking a shisha pipe in Dubai last week!), so they decided to let him go back to active duty service.

What an absolute doll he is!

I hate the party prince slant to that DM story. In order to become a major, Harry has to go back to active duty. This has nothing to do with getting him away from the party scene. What scene? The guy works for the Army & the Crown and he occasionally goes out. Sacre le bleu! Ugh.

Good on Harry for admitting he is nervous in public. I think he does well, so that’s a testament to the effort he puts into coming off articulate. He could give pointers to others. There’s no shame in having/showing a weakness. There’s no shame in having HIV. If the stigma was removed, people could be helped and hopefully live longer with this disease.

I was just about to say that, Mia. I seem to keep saying it, too! Every story gets it wrong. Whatever Harry’s social habits, he’s simply following the career path of a British Army officer. Active (or major exercises) duty as lieutenant to captain, followed by desk duty in London as a captain, followed by a further stint of active duty – then you get to be a major. The actual story is that he isn’t getting fast-tracked or any special treatment.

Yep! He is career military. These are the steps he has to take to further his career. He isn’t being given anything because he’s Prince Harry. He’s a top pilot because he’s Capt. Harry Wales.

      • Sixer says:

I’ll concede that the events job he did in London was down to his being a royal – but since he would have had to do some sort of desk job anyway, I don’t think that counts as an easy ride or favouritism; it was just a job that suited.

With you both on this. He’s going back on his own. Harry is great. He might party hard during his rare downtime, but he tackles his charity work and seems to truly enjoy and value his military service.

And Harry may have had some help and perks in his service, but he’s worked hard and dedicated so much to making it on his own merit. And I bet he’ll hit his training hard and be ready on schedule.

        Agree , FLORC.

What?!? And lose the ‘party prince/playboy’ label he’s had since he was THREE?!? What would the tabloids do if they took away their assigned label for Harry?? They probably wouldn’t recognise him!

Geesh, let’s have some compassion for the tabloids — they are merely trying to increase sales. Truth sometimes (read always) needs to be sacrificed for the nobler cause of money. DUH.

    Awww
Full disclosure: I did have to watch that a few times to get what he was saying. That voice is the equivalent of cinnamon sugar and melted butter on toast.

    That voice!!!!

I really cannot believe that Harry has turned into this hot guy! I always always was William’s fan but now… And I don’t even like ginger hair or blue eyed white eyebrowed guys but Harry is simply delicious!

Such a lovely bloke, and he’s a great example of ‘giving back’, when he could really get away quite easily with doing bugger all with his life.

So Harry was in Dubai at the same time as Kimmy Cakes? I wonder how hard her people hustled to try to make some photo op happen and how hard they were shut down.
