Tom Hiddleston is Tumblr’s #2 most reblogged actor: work harder, Dragonflies!

LMK-126188

As we discussed yesterday, Benedict Cumberbatch was named Tumblr’s “Most Reblogged Actor of 2014.” I’m not sure if that’s such a great thing, but Cumby had fun with it, and he even made a short video thanking all of his fans on Tumblr for being so devoted to him. Anyway, I just thought you guys might want to know who Benedict beat out when he got the #1 position. Guess who is #2? Yes, Tom Hiddleston. Personally, I tend to think that if Hiddles had a more eventful year (like, if he had been seen at more events or if he was dating someone famous), he could have easily beat out Cumby. I think Benedict’s fans are super-devoted, of course, but the Dragonflies would easily beat the Cumberbitches. The Dragonflies would totally #BreaktheInternet if Lord Dragonfly got engaged to some hussy. It would be epic. Maybe next year!!!

Anyway, you can see Tumblr’s big Year In Review package here – they’ve culled lists for Most Reblogged Actor, Actress, Solo Musical Artist, Band, Song, Album and much more. For Actor, Benedict got #1, Hiddles got #2, then in descending order: Jensen Ackles, Dylan O’Brien, Misha Collins, Jared Padalecki, Chris Evans, Martin Freeman, Sebastian Stan and Leonardo DiCaprio. David Tennant is still more popular than Matt Smith too! And Chris Pratt is #20.

The most reblogged actresses? #1 is Jennifer Lawrence. Then Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley, Lupita Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone and Scarlett Johansson. I can see that. I think that list makes total sense – J-Law and Emma Watson are beloved by the youths on Tumblr. And it’s good to see Angelina ranking so high. I doubt Jolie knows what “Tumblr” is. Anything else of interest? Let’s see… Beyonce is the most reblogged solo artist, and Five Seconds of Summer is the most reblogged band. Again, that makes sense.

PS… Now I kind of want to see Hiddles and J-Law go out on a date. That would totally break Tumblr.

I would like to see Tom and Jennifer on a talk show together during which they would have to answer “which Hemsworth brother” questions and tell competing Hemsworth brother stories.

    • 'P'enny says:

      that would be hilarious!

I can imagine Liam and Chris getting very worried…

    • Kali says:

I wish someone could have a word to Graham Norton and make this happen…

      • Lilacflowers says:

Graham Norton would be just the person, wouldn’t he? Although Tom would have a slight advantage over Jennifer. He went on a road trip with both Chris and Liam. The spaceship bickering in TDW was based on what happened in the car during that road trip. Jennifer hasn’t done any traveling with Chris. Although Graham could throw in questions about Luke Hemsworth and stump both of them.

@’p’enny, Chris seems to have a really good sense of humor about it all so he probably wouldn’t worry.

      • 'P'enny says:

arrrrh! but…Chris and Tom hung out a lot before Chris grew up and got married. There is a written interview on Collider from the early days of Thor promotion, where Tom describes Chris being very drunk and Tom told the story as Chris was hanging out the car window saying to Tom…’you are only one who understands me”
of which Chris turned to Tom, as said, ‘ I really don’t know what you’re talking about.’ with laughter of course.
Its a very funny article, I liked the bit where chris moans he was missed out of a breaking meeting between Hopkins and Tom.

    • icerose says:

Yes this would be awesome and I bet Lawrence has not seen naked pictures of Chris with his baby. I do wonder sometimes why Tom has never been on Norton and I wish I could have been in the boot with a listening device on the road trip.

  2. Loopy says:

Sorry im not on tumbler, what does reblogging mean?

    • Kiddo says:

People pick up the subject and put it out there again on their sites.

      • Loopy says:

Ahh i’m not quite as in touch, for personal use I am only on FB which I am bored with now and I rarely use my twitter.

  3. **sighs** says:

Please no J-Law dorito cheese fingers on Hiddles. NO!

    • Lilacflowers says:

He’s so gaunt and hungry at this point, they would probably fight over the Doritos.

    • SpookySpooks says:

      They would be awful together.

      • Oh Hey says:

On the other hand, I think JLaw and Cumby would be hilarious together. Just what he needs, a smartass funny, self deprecating woman, so unlike what he got.

    • PrincessMe says:

Yep, this all day long. No Hiddleston-JLaw shipping, that would annoy me to no end (no, I’m not a crazy fan who thinks we’re going to be together or anything, but that coupling would really annoy me).

Anyway, my Hiddleston “break the internet” fantasy is that he gets secretly MARRIED (not to J-Law) and then debut his wife on the red carpet, gushing about how in love they are. Maybe even do a love dance. Too much? LOL

    • Grace says:

She seems to be a nice enough girl. But no, just no. Please don’t make Hiddles sit through the real housewives of anywhere.

  4. Milena says:

Ew, Tumblr has no taste. Yeah, I said it. Apart from Lupita, Chris Evans, and Angelina, this list is a whole big pile of no.

Every time I see this man’s face, I get secondhand embarrassment. He seems so desperate for affirmation – I always remember the CB story about him tapdancing for an interview or whatever. Calm down, theatre nerd.

    • 'P'enny says:

What? and Angelina and Lupita? are not desperate for affirmation?

      don’t me larrgh

    • Grace says:

They’re actors and actresses. They all seek for affirmation of some sort; if not, you wouldn’t see their faces anywhere outside their work. That’s the business they are in.

    • BlueStahli says:

Either that or he was having fun with the interview and not taking himself so darned seriously. Guess it just depends on how you look at it.

    • Amanda says:

At least he doesn’t take himself seriously and is actually humble. Unlike “Look, I’m doing important things” Jolie, wannabe director Chris Evans or Lupita “the redcarpet is like going to war” Nyong’o.

    • Maria says:

Yep, #7 and #9 on the guys’ list got my attention. Good for them: Evans and Stan.

  5. Froop says:

Impressive considering Hiddles has been off grid for most of the year and only done, what, two events? Compared to others.

    • philae says:

You have to consider the Tahiti Gate, that caused a lot of traffic, the bycycle site, that also created a lot of reblogging between June and August, and all the selfies and hugging he did with fans when he was shooting High Rise.

      • tigerlily says:

What is Tahiti Gate? I’m a bit of a newb Dragonfly. And not sure I can see him with JLaw but it would be fun to see the reaction.

      • Allegra says:

        @philae:

Don´t forget the selfies he did during Crimson Peak´s shooting late at night.

      • Allegra says:

        @tigerlily :

For pics , articles and videos go to Torrila.
        http://torrilla.tumblr.com/archive

      • Lilacflowers says:

@tigerlily, he went to Tahiti on vacation with a woman, which caused some people to freak out and act like Mars was about to collide with the moon or something.

      • philae says:

I’m not going to do this, just go back near the end of May this year and look for a Hiddleston’s thread with almost 600 comments, then read all the other threads that followed.

      • philae says:

        Previous comment was for tigerlily.

@Allegra true, I left out CP because he only did that toward the end, but it reminds me that we should add the Olivier Awards to the list 🙂

      • ava says:

She and other gossip tumblrs actually get a very small number of hits and reblogs. Tumbler has millions. One site has very little influence. It is a combination and it has to be tagged, which many of those gossip sites are not tagged and do not add up any numbers. They also rarely get reblogged because they are largely anon.

    • mimi says:

You are so on point 😉

    • Lilacflowers says:

@Froop, Top Gear, Oliviers, Evening Standard awards, and the ALS ice bucket challenge, some job announcements, and that is really it. Selfies and autograph signings really are not news or events, ladies.

      • 'P'enny says:

second Jag advert, lets not forget that!!

        I need to sit down.

      • FW says:

jaguar ad and the banning of it 😉

      • philae says:

@ Lilaflower But are still things that fans reblog on tumblr, the ranking is about most reblogged, any reason for reblog counts. So selfies and signings and being seen with a woman count.

      • jammypants says:

We were so spoiled in January and February, then…silence the rest of the year.

      • Froop says:

Yes by events I meant red carpets, and I can only remember the Oliviers and Evening Standard awards where he was nominated both times. A few bits and pieces for charity, casting rumours, the odd fan selfie and that’s about it. Oh well. I’m sure we’ll all be sick of him by this time next year.

      • joe spider says:

But isn’t it nice that he was too busy working this year after last years dropped projects?

      • jammypants says:

@joe, I know. I’m still sad over Black Wings Has My Angel and Close Enough. But these new films make up for them! They’re very different.

  6. Kiddo says:

The answer to everything is Sophie.

    • Jaderu says:

“The answer to everything is Sophie.”
Sounds like some existential ad slogan for men’s cologne. See if you can get Brad Pitt to do the commercial.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Because “potato” is so last month.

    • Green Eyes says:

I don’t like the name Sophie. I had an aunt Sophie and she was fat, bitchy and demanding. Hmmm. Well, I guess, aside from the fat part, our Sophie is a lot like my aunt.

  7. maudfricker says:

*runs in* Yeah Cumby *runs out*

  8. Allegra says:

A new thread? I can´t believe it! Nothing better than start with a new pic.
    From @iammarkbautista:
With Mr. Tom Hiddleston and Nicholas Hytner #surrealmomentagain #sthe60theveningstandardawards http://instagram.com/p/wC6Z1LhDed/

    • Grace says:

A new thread – IKR? We’re on a timer, ladies. Just so you know. *cute picture* Happy Hiddles makes me happy.

    • 'P'enny says:

I love it, when he does a cheesy grin. He was definitely networking that evening! I wonder whose table he was sitting with? and did he get catch up with Benny and Eddy at any point? I am still waiting for some Idris and Tom pics, because I would swear Tom will lamp him one. [then run away as Idris is a big guy] last years awards had some brilliant behind the scene shots with Hayley [and her two pillows], Damien, Tom, Helen and Dan Stevens slopping over a sofa . Where are this years? maybe they are not released yet?

    • icerose says:

he often seems to link up with Mr Hyter -I keep thinking/hoping they are discussing a theatre project.
I loved the shots of Tom with Damien and Helen-they just seem so affectionate and into each other.

  9. Kali says:

Well, Jennifer does appear to like her lanky British boys! C’mon universe, make it happen. I need some more 500+ comment threads to get me through work at the moment….

  10. FW says:

surprised by the results…truly I prefer him not that “internet” famous but rather real world famous…maybe not even famous, just become one of those steady hardworking actors, well respected, and deliver 1-2 exciting projects each year; winning some awards here and there in perfect McQueen suits does not hurt either:-)

BTW, is ISTL wrapping this week?

    • Allegra says:

      Not yet, next week.

    • Lilacflowers says:

This week or next week. He’ll be home for Christmas.

      • 'P'enny says:

my home or your home? ill you have him for Christmas if I can have him for new year. That way, i’ll get the chunkier filled up after Christmas version and wants to work out and get plenty of exercise of the puppy humping kind.

      • Lilacflowers says:

My house. With lots and lots and lots of cookies baked by me. And chateaubriand in port wine sauce and pommes Anna and chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallows. I’m spending New Year’s with John Oliver so I’ll send him your way for New Years

      • Oh Hey says:

Ladies, I’ve got single malt and stilton awaiting our Tom, you must share…..

      • Lilacflowers says:

I think I have been extremely generous in sharing my husband.

    • philae says:

@FW I have the feeling that is what he wants too, he did say something similar in a couple of interviews didn’t he? That he has no interest for the circus of being a celebrity and that he only has to keep his head down, do the work and not take himself seriously.

  11. Suun12 says:

2 is still good. Have to say that I’m really happy for Sebastian Stan. He is number 9 on the list! Always thought he was talented and now after WS, he has two good roles in movies: the Martian ( Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Chiewetel…) and Ricki and The Flash ( Kevin Kline, Meryl Streep!)

  12. Joanne_S says:

Jensen Ackles?! Yes, please! I’d reblog the hell outta him, ifyaknowwhatimean *wiggles eyebrows* *nudge nudge*

    I’ll show myself out.

  13. 'P'enny says:

Tumblr is a brilliantly fascinating place, [it’s also the biggest load of rubbish] I can spend hours in there.

But, interesting to note about reblogging and how they count these results. Because at one time, people were posting a lot of naughty pics under both Tom and Benedict’s name. Rather mess up the results. I would think? that would get a few reblogs for frustrated teenagers.

  14. JoAnn says:

Is this something Tom would want anyway? Tumblr is still looked at as a “tumor on the internet”. Both my daughter and I enjoy much of it (very creative, very funny) but there is some disturbing stuff on there when it comes to Tom. I’m sure other performers get the same treatment but Tom is the one that interests us.

Also, looking at this list I would think Supernatural was the biggest show on TV but in reality it doesn’t even come close.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Most likely not. He has said he steers clear of Tumblr.

      • Oh Hey says:

He says, but I don’t believe that he doesn’t know what’s going on, someone on his team is monitoring the internet to keep an eye on what’s going on, sort of the same way BC doesn’t get on the internet but his team always seems to know what’s going on. Someone made a reference in an interview to Tom about being jealous that he didn’t a blog devoted completely to his, errr, private parts.

      • TotallyBiased says:

But there’s been a blog for Tom’s Glorious Purpose since Thor came out!

      • Isadora says:

More than one, I think… and of course all the other blogs not dedicated solely to his Mjölnir, but other body parts too. I think I’ve also seen one about his butt? Ah… the internet ladies definitely like Tom *lol*. I just hope every weird TH blog also means a sold ticket when his films come out next year!

  15. Green Eyes says:

Well, here I am. (Drops bags on the floor, flops myself on the settee) In a Hiddles thread. Consider me a refugee from Camp BC. I heard this camp is better. Also heard that I can get served tea and sympathy from Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender, depending on what day it is.

Oh, and the Rattlesnake gyrating hips. Yeah. That.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Colin will be right with you, only so long as you don’t mention that otter.

      • Abby_J says:

Later this afternoon Colin mentioned that he and the boys were going to make us all Christmas cookies. Tom has been collecting cute little cookie cutters and is ready to get to it. No otter shaped cookies allowed!

      • Oh Hey says:

I’m going to make Tom some of my world famous gingerbread gnome cookies, lord knows he can use a few pounds and they’ll probably excite him so much he’ll have to make himself a cup of tea…..which ironically goes really well with the cookies…..

    • M.A.F. says:

I think Mark Strong is another server but I’m not sure who and when he caters. I’m normally in the back just watching all the action eating some pie and doughnuts.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Mark is head of security. Colin is butler. Mark had to rescue Colin from the otter frenzy. Neither were amused and Tom was frightened.

    • Nikki says:

Welcome! *gives warm hug* You have chosen wisely…come. I’ll get you some proper tea.

    • icerose says:

enjoy the tea and sympathy and the bountiful smiles from our ever so humble but endearing half starved puppy. We are taking collections for a care package and relaxation oils. A rota to provide the on going massage will be posted as soon as convenient, The only requirements are strong thumbs and a lighter touch for more sensitive areas

      • Oh Hey says:

Strong thumbs…got those, and some nice essential oils to soothe his starved spririt….no no, you don’t need a towel, as is will be just fine…….

      • icerose says:

@OhHey Towel you say -what’s that

      • Oh Hey says:

Icerose, I was making a rather transparent attempt at being dignified and professional….. I congratulate you for being way ahead of me on the smut scale.

    • ellesbelles says:

@Green Eyes I started as a refugee too. I still have love for the otter one, but I’ve gone full hiddles. Its a lot warmer and fuzzier over here

      • Green Eyes says:

Mmmm….Warm and fuzzy. I like that. After the Shootstorm that happened Over There, I’m ready to sit back and relax. I wonder if Hiddles gives nice massages…

      • Grace says:

@ Green Eyes, have a good look at his hands!

      • ellesbelles says:

When I watch interviews on Youtube, I always am drawn to the hands. I can only take so much eyes and smiles, so I usually shift my focus to his hands. He has really great hands

    • joe spider says:

      Welcome to the club!

    • Lollipop says:

I’m new to this camp as well! I immigrated from land BC last week.

  16. Mia4S says:

What a bizarre list! Heavily A list on the female side, but an awful lot of C list on the men’s (with a couple of A’s and B’s). Supernatural? Seriously? I stopped watching that years ago and I don’t think I’ve seen one thing on the actors since. Zero mainstream presence, but tons on Tumblr. I don’t even know who Dylan O’Brien is! There’s a sociology paper in this somewhere.

    • Charlie says:

I’m kinda surprised by the results. I thought it would be more teen-y, like 5 Seconds of Summer and stuff like that. And no Taylor Swift?

      • Isadora says:

Well…. maybe tumblr isn’t that teensy after all? No idea, but you are right, it’s not like Justin Bieber made #1, so I guess there’s something else going on there? I only know some Hiddleston tumblr stuff and most of that is posted by women in their 20s and 30s.

    • lunchcoma says:

I didn’t know who Dylan O’Brien was, either. Apparently he’s on Teen Wolf. I think the conclusion to draw from this is that Tumblr users watch a lot of sci fi and fantasy. Nothing wrong with that, but I don’t think it’s any sign of mainstream popularity one way or the other.

  17. ellesbelles says:

I dont do Tumblr, after a horrifying exposure to the bottom of the barrel on TOBY. I will peek at SOGO but thats my limit.

I’m almost afraid to get too comfortable here, who knows when the clubhouse will be closed.

For anyone in the Hiddlecloud that missed my comment last night, 14 new files are in there x

    • Allegra says:

      @ellesbelles:
Again, thanks for the new files!
I saw that you also upload the one with Tom speaking french.

      • ellesbelles says:

        I promised I would!

I have a few sound could links to tinker with, and I havent given up on muse of fire. Its trickier to extract that one because its a private vimeo link

I listened to popcorn taxi in the car this morning, and it was so soothing, I was at work before I knew it

      • Allegra says:

Glad to hear that you are having good time!
And Popcorn Taxi´s interview is a good way to start your day!

    • **sighs** says:

Usually when they start closing stuff down is because they’re putting up a new one the next day. Which i don’t think is unreasonable.

      • ellesbelles says:

@**sighs** I had that lightbulb go on this morning actually. It would be very kind of the proprietors if they could give us a heads up maybe. If possible. It would keep the dragonflys from getting restless

      • TotallyBiased says:

Except they don’t do that to, ahem, ‘the other guy’s’ threads.

      • ellesbelles says:

@TB I’ve accepted that its an unbalanced kind of thing. At least the core of us seem to still find places to land when the threads get closed.

      • **sighs** says:

totally- they used to do it to his, too. its just that everything has gone off the deep end with their weirdness, and people might revolt and take to the streets with octopi in hand screaming at God, holding up fists with tentacles trailing between fingers.
hey, at least we didn’t get a pic of them together with their dead #jawseyes and #*itchface today.

      • ellesbelles says:

#jawseyes makes me laugh every time. and I remember the bit from S3E3 where hes talking to john about the sharks. “Those cold dead eyes, those flat faces”. Art imitating life right there.

      • icerose says:

        love the jarseyes

    • MtnRunner says:

I must say “well done!” to the dragonflies and worshipers of the alien goddess for bringing her comments up from 23 to 77 this morning. At least we know we have alternatives if we get chased out of the neighborhood too soon…

    • ava says:

I agree, but if you like photography or other art forms you can block the sites that are distasetful and get some really nice pictures and interesting things from sites that have merit.

    • Josa says:

I wanna put in a request, but I searched in vain on YT and can’t find that interview anymore. It’s from earlier year maybe 2010 or 2011. It’s a very long interview, more than 30 mins but only voice, and a still picture of him in his suit sitting there. It’s a british interview, cos I remember the interviewer sounds British too. Does that ring a bell to anyone that can pin point which interview it is? It’s awfully vague my description I know. That’s all I can come up with. I think he was asked how to choose which movies to work on and he said he doesn’t have much choices, he’s no Leo DeCaprio.

      • Allegra says:

        @Josa:

I remember this interview but I don´t think it is from 2010 or 2011.
I´m going to see if I save the link, ok?

      • Josa says:

@Allegra. That will be great if you can link. I probably mistaken the year.

      • Allegra says:

        @Josa:

        Maybe this one?
This link is the official one and also it´s new. The one that you mention has Tom on the “cover” right?
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwfRK0aIpek

      • Josa says:

Yes. That’s it!!!! Thank you thank you thank you, Allegra. So they changed the picture, or the old one no longer available, either way I couldn’t find it. I was scrolling down the list looking specifically for that picture of him sitting with his normal sitting position, you know, that legs wide open, lol. That’s about the only thing I remembered, that I can base on to search.

Ellesbelles, can you be an angel and turn this interview into mps? I’ll be forever grateful.

    • Oh Hey says:

      Thank you Ellesbelles….off to download!

  18. jammypants says:

wow, that is surprising since this year has been reeeeaaally quiet.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Next year is going to be really crazy with four movie releases, the return to SDCC, and a TV show.

      • ellesbelles says:

Ok I’m going to get out in front of the rumor mill and let you all know that I’m the sgf. I know, I know… I should have told you all earlier.

(It counts even if its only in my head, right?)

      • Abby_J says:

We think that Tommy will be at SDCC? Really? Maybe I will agree to that trip to San Diego after all. My husband is desperate to go, especially with Star Wars coming out.

      • 'P'enny says:

Four? Ah avengers 👍 lol I wonder if it’s one off his contract? A cameo is one thing, with Idris, but now possibly on call for two weeks? Surely that should be a ‘proper’ job so to speak.

      • Josa says:

@Abby_J. Tommy will be at SDCC because Del Toro promised that he will be. I heard ticket already sold out. But do check.

      • Oh Hey says:

Why would he be at SDCC for Crimson Peaks? Or am I missing the point of SDCC, as in not just cartoony things….

      • Abby_J says:

        @Josa,

Tickets don’t even go on sale until some time in early spring of 2015, so they can’t be sold out yet! They are, however, hard to get and sell out VERY quickly, so my husband and I will both have to start doing finger exercises to get ready to type fast. 🙂

      • Josa says:

@Abby_J. I heard wrong, good that you check. I will never go to SDCC so I don’t really know where ticket goes on sales. Hope you get the ticket then.

@Oh Hey. Yes, it’s for Crimson Peak. SDCC is now more like a platform for all major studios to promote their movies. The one just past, Chris Hemsworth was in the Legendary panel promoting Black Hat, nevermind that it is a cyber thriller and nothing to do with comic or fantasy. The studio bought a panel and will promote whatever is on their slates that year, it seems.

      • Josa says:

Next year will be crazy indeed, already worrying that everyone will be complaining that he is overexposed. But he will also be busy shooting Skull Island and hopefully The Night Manager. Maybe he doesn’t have as much time to do all those promotions for all 4 movies. I do hope to see him in Cannes and TIFF.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Guillermo Del Toro, who seemed to own this year’s SDCC, showed a clip of CP during Legendary’s panel and said that since the movie won’t open until October 2015, he would be returning with more next year and would be bringing Tom with him. He gave Tom a new middle name in the process. It would seem that part of his PR duties under his CP contract would include SDCC. Because he will be there on movie day and Marvel always does a panel on movie day and Tom will have Thor3 to promote, he will very likely be at the Marvel panel too. He’ll also probably talk about Skull Island while he’s on the Legendary panel.

      • icerose says:

yes looking forward to Tom F…………g Hiddleston

      • Abby_J says:

        @Lilacflowers

I guess I will just have to wear something comfortable and plan to camp out for the main hall that day, if we manage to get tickets. Now to hope that the hubby doesn’t get sent out somewhere other than here. He shouldn’t, but you never know.

I guess I should hope more that he doesn’t mind my Tom drooling. 🙂 Although he is probably used to that by now.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Abby J, I want to thank you for releasing JLM long enough to make tonight’s episode of Elementary. I quite enjoyed it. And looking forward to next week’s. He seemed to be discussing nutmeg in the promo. Was he involved in the cookie baking as well?

      • Abby_J says:

        @Lilacflowers

He was! They had a great time and made all of us lovely boxes of goodies. I am sure that they will be handing them out soon.

    • MtnRunner says:

Which I think gives weight to Kaiser’s point. Four releases and any sgf rumors, sgf sightings, engagements etc and Lord Dragonfly will surely be crowned King in 2015.

Tumblr scares the crap outta me. I rely on you hearty types to tell me the juicy bits here.

    • Allegra says:

Yes, you´re right! But Tom´s fan always keeping him on the top.
The @Loki_Page said Tom was number 1 last year:
” VanityFair Whait! The only thing I did not expect was to see Tom Hiddleston at #2. (Last year he was the #1 by the way)”

      • Josa says:

If @Loki_Page said Tom was Tumblr reblogged most #1 in 2013, he isn’t, it was Benny. Tom wasn’t in Top 5 IIRC. In fact, I think he was #7 in 2013.

      • Allegra says:

        @Josa:
BC again? Well, perhaps that explains why Ben didn´t show any enthusiasm.

      • Oh Hey says:

BC only surpassed because of the Sodious debacle……

  19. koko says:

I doubt he would be personally interested in this but somebody in his camp is, that would be their job and he was probably informed. I’ve stumbled into Tumblr, then I’ve showered and poured myself a tumbler of whatever is handy. To each his own, just not my thing.

  20. joe spider says:

Have been out all day and look what I’ve missed – another Tom thread!

  21. joe spider says:

Seems like Tom certainly dodged a bullet:

    http://collider.com/the-crow-reboot-luke-evans-leaving/

  22. Madly says:

I just can’t do tumblr. TOBY scarred and scared me a little. What a nut house.

Is he and that Jane girl still together. He seems private, but this seems like a no go anymore. Busy schedules probably?

    • ellesbelles says:

I get the vibe that Jane is a friend (possibly fwb) who likes the attention that comes with being connected with Tom. Even before I fell hard I didnt get a warm fuzzy off of her. I’m no shrinking violet, but I’m also not a brash kind of person. I get the brash vibe from Jane

ETA: TOBY is a cesspool. The stuff they come up with is ridiculous

    • joe spider says:

I doubt they were seriously together, just she wanted some publicity (and possibly a piece of Tom)

    • Mary-Alice says:

Sorry, new here, what is this TOBY place that scares everyone? I tried to google to avoid asking silly questions but nothing came out of it except hundreds of “Toby” people on Tumblr. 🙁

      • Green Eyes says:

Don’t go there! It’s the Dark Side!

        You have been warned!!

      • ava says:

Fanfiction don’t bother. No one promoted that here. Fan girl stuff is supposed to be fun…..not spiteful and keyboard bullying.

      • ellesbelles says:

Toby is the town bicycle. Its awful, liebelous stuff about Tom and Otter and their alleged sexual proclivities. Mostly Tom. I was sickened by it after about 5 mins. Maybe I have rose coloured glasses when it comes to Tom, but some of it was just crude and beyond horrible. Not to mention any of anyone’s business

      • Grace says:

If you are bored out of your mind and have a good bottle of spirit lying around, go over there and have a sip every time you see something incredulous – you will be feeling warm and fuzzy in no time, I promise you.

      • joe spider says:

…………and then with a bit of luck you will have forgotten what you read.

      • Josa says:

TOBY is the incarnation of a now-closed Tumblr blog called Anti-Susie. Anti-Susie was born when Tom showed up at TIFF with then gf Susannah Fielding in 2011. You don’t need to know what’s been said on Anti-Susie to know what that blog was about. It was only ever active when Tom was rumored to have a gf, it went quiet after Fielding, and got a little activities when Tom hanged out with his lady friend from RADA, what’s her name I suddenly can’t recall, Cian something? Then it bursts into life when Tahitigate hit. The owner than closed Anti-Susie and starts TOBY. My guess is that Anti-Susie is too obvious a gf hating blog, and she has since then gone into the territory of fabrication nasty stories about Tom.

      • Madly says:

Venture at your own peril, seriously. It sounds like a bunch of bitter harpies over there and I am not normally one to say that about fans who mock an actor or not like who he may or may not be seeing.

      • Mary-Alice says:

Oh well… I just wanted to see what it’s all about.

@Josa Thank you for the explanations. But why can’t I find a blog called TOBY then? I must have lost my internet skills.

      • Grace says:

@Mary-Alice, the blog is called the town bicycle.

      • Mary-Alice says:

GOsh,sorry for being so silly! Thanks, ellesbelles and Grace!

      • Lilacflowers says:

It is a blog that is extremely anti-women, trashes women for their involvement with actors, no matter how minimal that involvement may be, and encourages women to cyber-stalk and harass others.

      • Mary-Alice says:

I lost about half an hour there but, frankly, it’s boring. Done with it.

    • icerose says:

It is only the cesspool that really cares if he is with JA or not. I looked at her facebook and twitter when the news first broke and there was nothing on them which made me dislike her.

  23. joe spider says:

All this worry about his hairline – is it the much further back than 2011?

    https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B4Bnn2nIUAAF_LT.jpg:large

    • ava says:

I agree. Its the hairstyle. Honestly………who cares Sir Ian got a lot of hot votes on the other post and to me Patrick Stewart is one of the hottest actors. I agree Joe spider it is really unchanged. After he finishing filming we will see the old Tom back. Smiling and eating his pudding.

    • MtnRunner says:

      My love transcends follicles.

    • Allegra says:

You think the problem is the hair or make up?

      • joe spider says:

Think there may have been one or two skiing holidays in sunshine without sunscreen or a protective cap

    • Isadora says:

Aaah… Ken Brannagh <3 Looking very dapper here!

I think his hairline is a bit further back, but not much. As he said "very slowly receeding". And yes, MtnRunner, you put it perfectly! 😉

    • Oh Hey says:

He’s mentioned his slowly receding hair line himself but it looks worse with it being dark and slicked back. Lighter and fluffy would be good….hurry up, light and fluffy hair….

  24. Camil says:

    “Work harder Drangonflies”

But… but…I’m interested in his projects, I buy his movies and share them with my friends (I forced them to watch OLLA, Midnight in Paris, Thor 1 y 2, The Deep Blue Sea, Avengers), I’m trying to get THC and Hoggs’s movies and, of course, I’m planning conferences about gothic literature and Crimson Peak, the benefits of reading Ballard and High Rise, the importance of Hank Williams in our lives (LOL), and King Kong!

    I’m working hard!!
But I don’t have or use tumblr

    Am I a bad Dragonfly? u.u
    I’m so ashamed
    Sorry girls (crying)

    LOL

    • Miss Melissa says:

Here for the Tom. Not for the Tumblr. I’m OK with him losing ground there. I’m sure he is too.

TOBY is full of _hit. And reacts like a teenage brat when called on it.

    • Isadora says:

“I’m planning conferences about gothic literature and Crimson Peak, the benefits of reading Ballard and High Rise, the importance of Hank Williams in our lives (LOL), and King Kong!”

      Count me in!!!!

    • icerose says:

@ Camil no that is showing the true Dragonfly spirit-the more you see the more he works his way into your unconscious and then blossoms whenever you need a nice moment.
If you are interested in a background to Ballard’s work here is a link to a South Bank Arts programme on him. Does not mention High Rise but it gives a picture of how his mind works.

  25. browniecakes says:

We’re in training for 2015, Kaiser. I only picture TH with a UK girl. Actually I don’t picture him with anyone but me – but the day will come. A co-star I will bet.

    • Madly says:

I kinda hope he goes against type and doesn’t date an actress.

    • MtnRunner says:

@Madly, yes. And close to his age.

      • ellesbelles says:

        *Volunteers as tribute*

        * We’re both 33
        * We’re both runners
        * I’m not an actress, so nothing to gain off of his fame

I’m not posh though. I paid my way though school doing crappy menial jobs, sometimes having to stop school and just work to survive. Raised by a single mom, blah blah.

        Pick me tom!

      • joe spider says:

Well Tom’s mum is a single mum now.

      • Oh Hey says:

If a middle aged woman old enough to be his mother if I was mildly slutty can’t have him then I vote for Elles Belles…he needs a “brick”, you know? Someone solid. Atta girl……

      • icerose says:

@ellesbelles should at least get an engagement after all those file downloads.
I am quite happy to attend the wedding as the older women who taught him what to do with his fingers and what not to do which included discussing it on interviews

      • Oh Hey says:

Thank heaven someone took him aside and schooled him in inappropriate interview talk….. I think BC must have been really drunk during that interview.

      • ellesbelles says:

You ladies are too sweet. Id be happy with a chance meeting just to see that smile. Perhaps I’ll be lucky to bump in to him on a run round reagents park if I can get myself to London. 😉

  26. Madly says:

Predictions on how many posts before the thread gets closed? Come on, let’s beat crumby and maybe we can go a day without octo-gate.

    • Grace says:

Do they have a post maximum policy? Does anyone know?

    • joe spider says:

      178 and a half.

    • ellesbelles says:

We’re ahead in comments today, but I think because of the nature of todays Otter article. A douche calls a douche a douche (and I love me some otter, but seriously.. douche) . No engagment to pick over.

Between his ESTA award and any Tumblr honours, and I’m going place a pretty safe bet in thinking that our Tom cares more about ESTA

      • Allegra says:

Wow, from prince charming to douche less than a month!
It is time to strike back, BC! Do something, now!

      • ellesbelles says:

I love Otter, I honestly do! But his recent shenanigans scream douche, especially if he is part and party to them and not going along by force. I’m clutching tight to a glimmer of hope that he will go back to being Ben, and not Otter-Bot, but it Otter-bot is the real Ben… *sigh*.. I dont know

      • Allegra says:

        @ellesbelles:
Do not worry, I was joking …
I can only imagine how much an actor or actress would like to win an Oscar.
It’s not just for the prestige, the possibility to earn more money or to become famous, but for the chance to get better roles in film, television or theater. In some cases can be the difference between mere survival or the chance to have longevity in his career, but everything has a price. Sometimes it means sacrificing his family, personal relationships, health, values and beliefs. Does it worth it? Only Ben can answer this question.

      • ellesbelles says:

        @Allegra

No harm no foul. I’m mostly meh about the engagement, I’m more concerned on the effects of his longevity. I think career wise he will be ok, but only he knows if he wants to be just ok, or next level. Whatever happens, I hope it sorts itself and he is happy and sucessful

      • icerose says:

I just going to say I saw Richard Armitage in a live broadcast of the Crucible and he should have been on the ESA nominations for best male actor. Tom still should have won but he was easily up there with Strong
They did manage on naked to the waist scene and I was quite impressed by what I saw. Not quite as impressive as Tom’s strip off in Coriolanus but well worth a good look

  27. lindy79 says:

I went and had a look through tom’s twitter to see was there any ESA stuff.
Was reminded of how fine he looked in the High Rise selfie.

    Damn.

  28. Madly says:

It is rainy and cold outside, so I can’t stop watching this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=48DRGDiKo2U and his dancing videos.

    • Grace says:

      Humanity!

    • ellesbelles says:

I looooove the Hall H video. The smiles he gives, when he shushes them and the whole say my name bit *hearts eyes*

      • Grace says:

Look at how he’s smiling from ear to ear, he’s loving every second of it!

      • ellesbelles says:

I really do think some of his charm is calcuated, but only a little bit. I honestly think he really is that nice, because that same charm shines in Muse of Fire and that was pre- fame. It cant be faked. It can be turned up, but it has to be there to start with

      • Grace says:

He’s often criticised for being a people-pleaser and a try-hard. I think, first and foremost, he’s an ambitious guy who wants to take his career far. Actors need different roles to improve their craft and increase their profile. Out of a reckless diva and a reliable hard-worker on good terms with more or less everyone, who are they gonna give the job to? I don’t know how many people can succeed just on their talent alone, especially in the line of work he’s in. There are so many try-hards and smart-arses (self-claimed like James Fransco, is that his name? I don’t even think they’re all that smart) in the industry anyway. It’s nice to hear someone actually care about whether we understand what he’s saying when he talks about Shakespeare.

So yeah, I agree with you on calculated charm, but I am eating it up happily. Hope he doesn’t turn into a douche as he goes on and up. It would be too bad. 🙁

      • ellesbelles says:

        I’m buying what he’s selling!

And I actually know the Franco family from growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area as a youngun. He didnt used to be a twat, but time and fame does that to some people.

As for Tom, I hope he does keep that charm. It will serve him well long after the Marvel gigs stop and the fandom resets itself. I find his try-hard to be adorable, like a puppy, and I really like puppies

      • Grace says:

“http://cs622030.vk.me/v622030138/5077/k4brZcpBtnA.jpg” — let’s hop on the time machine a bit, shall we? Someone please find a puppy picture with matching expression.

      • ellesbelles says:

its not quite exact, but close!

I just came up for air from a youtube binge of Puppy Tom and Otter. I’m a little punch drunk

      • Grace says:

Speaking of Otter, Dr. Strange casting’s just been confirmed. I guess another Otter post tomorrow then. At least it’s for his work this time.

      • ellesbelles says:

I’m thread jacking a little but I watched some of Otters older stuff and like our puppy, beautiful and brilliant. Great news on the Dr Strange front, its going to elevate him even further

      • icerose says:

Well Brannagh once said to him before a Loki scene “just forget whatever personnel charm you have and” So he must have had prior to be famous for Ken to pick up on it.

      • icerose says:

So I wonder if Ben got what he wanted or caved in in the end. I never trusted Benny’s earlier crowd pleasing performances -they always felt a bit force.
I only watch Marvel for Tom the rest of it just passes by me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, I think he really, really, really, desperately wanted that job and was hurling himself at Feige for months. Marvel clearly wanted somebody else more prominent (and American) or other names wouldn’t have been circulating months after his was rumored (probably by his own people). Marvel has a schedule to meet to get that film in theaters by its late 2016 date in order to fit into the phase 3 storyline leading to Avengers 3; they couldn’t get their first three choices (clearly, Leto was in conversations with multiple studios simultaneously in hopes of landing a franchise role); so they settled for the guy who was pounding on the door. BC has been throwing himself at every major franchise lately.

      • jammypants says:

I like Ben but does he ever not go after famous historical figures or pop icons? He’s not even that different role to role. I hope he works on his acting because I don’t want to see Sherlock play dress up as a Marvel superhero.

  29. Florence says:

Tom and Lupita would make a good looking couple!
Unfortunately, Tom seems to like the brash rather than elegant type. Maybe JLaw would work then but I don’t think she would be interested

I don’t think he would do the whole “finding a proper, suitable, mate thing” though, he would just go for whoever floats his boat

    • ava says:

Susannah Fielding, his gf, of many years, seemed proper and suitable. She didn’t seem at all brash.

      • joe spider says:

Actually, have you seen some of her publicity shots – not ones potential m-in-law would be keen on? And having seen her on the red carpet with Tom and seeing her face turn to thunder the minute his back was turned……….

      • Lilacflowers says:

@joespider, she did dump him about three weeks after that red carpet video. Sometimes couples just don’t work. For whatever reason, they didn’t.

      • joe spider says:

        Having used him for publicity?

      • Josa says:

But they were together long before Thor came out. I don’t think she used him for publicity. Think the relationship just went its course. Although, in pictures of them together in events, it seem that he’s into her more than she is into him. They did make a very good-looking couple.

      • Oh Hey says:

I thought there was some buzz about him possibly cheating when he was in CA and that maybe that’s why she dumped him. Of course that could have rubbed off on my from ready TOBY and in that case I need a good shower and some brain bleach….

      • Josa says:

Maybe it ran its course, maybe he cheated, maybe she cheated, who knows. She did do a quick turnaround and have a new bf in no time, just sayin.

      • Oh Hey says:

None of us know the particulars, myself I think he’s much too young to be tied down, maybe in a couple of years, but not quite yet. At the rate he works it’s going to be difficult anyway to sustain a relationship.

Oh, this sheds some light, ambiguous as it is:
        http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/profiles/soldier-of-fortune-tom-hiddleston-is-set-to-become-2012s-hottest-new-star-6284844.html

      • Josa says:

I remember this article. Not much light were shed of why they separated. But it’s a nice read. I’m not the marrying type, but I don’t think he’s too young to be tied down. Whenever you find the right person, that’s the right time and age, that’s my philosophy. Atm, he probably has his priority set on work, very difficult to sustain a relationship indeed. Being away 10 months a year and working 15 hrs a day, not easy. I see him setting aside these few years to build his career first before he will slow down, relax and try to meet the special someone. But maybe he’ll meet someone next month, falls head over heel for her and get marry in secret, that would be fun :).

      • Catherine says:

He was with Susannah Fielding in 2011 (it’s assumed the were together before that as they were both in Wallander in 2009), and from pics/rumours he was with Kat Dennings during the Thor shoot in 2010. His actual gfs don’t appear to be brash, but it does appear that one of his recent hook-ups is.

      • Josa says:

We assumed he and Kat were a couple because of pics they took at Comic Con 2010. If he was going out with Susannah at that time, then it’s pretty bold of him to show up at a very public event having his photo taken by journalists holding hands and hugging Kat as if they were an item. He’s not hiding or worrying much, is he. It’s as much a guess whether he and Kat did go out as guessing whether he was with Susannah at that time. In any case, whatever he has or not has a fling with Kat, didn’t affect his relationship with Susannah at least in 2010 since they didn’t break up until 2012. Either he wasn’t with Susannah at that time as it was mentioned their relationship was on and off before she finally spent time with him in late 2011. Or there wasn’t anything with Kat and they were acting cosy for the photo ops. Only they know what really happened.

    • icerose says:

      Carey Mulligan is hardly brash.

      • **sighs** says:

        he dated carey mulligan?

      • Allegra says:

        @icerose:
I saw her and Johnny depp on Graham Norton.
        She is a lovely lady!

      • jammypants says:

I don’t think they dated. The pictures they took were cute, but they seem more friendly.

      • icerose says:

well some guy on the independent said he met them at a dinner part when they came together -maybe friend but who knows -I saw some cute pictures of them together.

      • 'P'enny says:

Tom and Carey defo an item that photo booth pic of Carey face in his it v intimate . Not even sure if it was on those hacked of his Facebook but wouldn’t swear on it 😜

    • jammypants says:

Gwendoline is utterly charming. Brash? Nope.

    • A. Key says:

      “brash rather than elegant type”
      WTF does that even mean??
      Seriously, what does that mean?

Women should be quiet, demure, know their place, cover up and pretend to be shy and vulnerable? Right? God forbid you speak your mind, laugh out loud, talk loud, make jokes, and don’t take yourself seriously?

      • Elina says:

Thnx for voicing what I have in my mind. That’s what I thought too when I read the comment. What does that even mean? But I didn’t make any comment, sort of want to wait and see if there’s other commenter pick up on it. And you happen to be the first one AFTER several other comments.

What’s wrong with brash tough? And who made the definition of BRASH WOMAN? I think I’m a brash woman myself so does it means that I will not get a proper gentleman?

And whatever proper gentleman even mean though? Is Tom a proper gentleman? Are you sure? Just because he act all charming all the darn time he could be a straight A arsehole in a relationship. We won’t know though cause so far no ex ever mention it.

  30. MBP says:

For some reason I read “J-Law” in “Now I kind of want to see Hiddles and J-Law go out on a date.” as *Jude* Law…. and yeah, that date probably would break the internet!

  31. Allegra says:

    Ladies:

It´s official! BC will play Doctor Strange and join Tom on Marvel Universe.

    • joe spider says:

      Fancy BC copying Tom 😉

      • icerose says:

he just does it all the time -going back on stage to do Hamlet ,then doing the Hollow Crown and now Marvel.

    • Grace says:

Yay! Smile, grumpypants! Smile for Marvel!

    • ellesbelles says:

I just fell in love with BC all over again thanks to some youtube. He’s allowed out of the attic, but he has to sleep at the end of the bed for now

      • Allegra says:

        @ellesbelles:
You don´t need to worry about BC´s longevity anymore.
Marvel will keep him busy for the next 10 years.

        @Grace:
Now that BC works for Marvel, he can not afford to be grumpy because he will lose his fans. And he has to win over the fanboys that don´t want him to play Dr Strange.

      • icerose says:

yes but not on a tom post because we only have one bed and when Cucumber tries to get in some of us boot him out and become snarky.

      • ellesbelles says:

Icy, I can have a cushion next to my side of the bed, he wont be a bother. Thats what muzzles are for 😀

      • icerose says:

okay but do not take the muzzle of or Harry, Cillian and Armitage will be on him in a flash. I have them well trained to remove all irritations at the first sign of trouble.

  32. altariel says:

How can Tom win out when Benny is EVERYWHERE?

I just saw he’s Dr. Strange too…that means he gets his own MCU movie? Like he had to conquer that too? Marvel is Tom territory, where most everyone who loves him got to know him. Pffft. And he’s in the Jungle Book, something Tom would LOVE to do. Benny, please, stick with Sherlock and all the other big budget blockbusters you’re in. Oh yeah, and enjoy Sophie while you’re at it. She’s just looks so sweet…NOT. Haha, how’ THAT going for ya??

    • ellesbelles says:

I’m pleased about the marvel announcement for Ben, its awesome. Tom will be fine, he has the chops to get on to massive success, even more than he has now. Dont forget, Loki is slated for at least 6 marvel films. Dr Strange may be a singular project!

Sophie and sweet.. HA! Tell me you had trouble typing from laughing so hard 😉

      • altariel says:

Ah, thanks for that Ellesbelles!! I needed to spew some steam for the sake of my/our boy.

LOL….yes, typing the exact opposite of the truth about her was a LOL moment….therapeutic even!

      • lindy79 says:

I wonder how ultra serious, private, hates big events and publicity, avant garde director thinks of her fiancé playing a Marvel character called Dr Strange.
Marvel is about as commercial as it comes

      • Oh Hey says:

She’ll be Mrs. Strange. Can’t think of a better name for her, actually.

      • altariel says:

omg, Oh Hey….you nailed it! Mrs. Strange indeed. All that secrecy and months of speculation about a secret girlfriend and she turns out to be this killjoy.

      • Grace says:

I expect hair tossing. Lots of it!

      • jammypants says:

        Crossover!

      • icerose says:

if anyone is in Marvel for the money -it’s Benny -but it will give him enough money to get his little production company going and keep Sophie in projects

I would have added a comment re the Jungle Book but Lilacflowers has covered it for us

      • icerose says:

Anyway Tom is ready to move on from Marvel and id Skull Island pans out could have his own franchise -coughs-I am secretly hoping it does not happen because I want more stage work

      • Miss Jupitero says:

No, Doctor Strange is going to be a major character, important to many storylines. Marvel wants him to displace Ironman.

The good news: Loki figures in the Doctor strange storyline, so maybe after Hiddles burns off his contract, they will offer him another and he and Cumby will get rich together.

      • Oh Hey says:

How does Loki figure in the Dr. Strange storyline? Not that I know jack about either, but they didn’t seem like they’d cross paths.

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Oh Hey, Dr. Strange figures in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline and has several battles with Loki. Strange usually needs somebody else’s help to fight Loki off.

@Miss Jupitero, are you reversing? Haven’t you been saying Tom needs to get away from Marvel?

      • Lilacflowers says:

@icerose, Legendary has big plans for the Skull Island franchise and hopes to build up to a King Kong versus Godzilla showdown. Both King Kong and Godzilla have nearly devout followings.

      • 'P'enny says:

I cant wait for the Loki and Dr Strange kiss-off in the Infinity gauntlet, if Kevin and Joss etc don’t write it in, I won’t be happy. However there is ONE HUGE PROBLEM, loki can’t win 🙁 I would love to see Loki win in all the Universe at the end. 😀

      • icerose says:

@P’enny technically Loki wins in all their meetings bit Thor and others come to his rescue. The only one where he nearly beats Loki is after Ragnarok when he was in some sort of Limbo and his powers were reduced

    • Lilacflowers says:

Tom has NEVER said he would love to do the Jungle Book. He said he loves the Disney version of Jungle Book and thinks it is perfect. Usually when somebody thinks something is perfect, they don’t want it touched or remade. Tom has a contract with Disney and Disney is also doing a live-action Jungle Book. If he really wanted to be in a Jungle Book movie, he could have convinced somebody at Disney to put him in that.

And Tom can do just fine, no matter what other actors do, so long as people stop this endless, unnecessary comparison.

      • Josa says:

ITA with Lilacflowers. Tom loves a lot of things, Snowman, Jungle Book, Jurassic Park, and his favorite superhero is Superman. Doesn’t mean he wants to be doing any of those movies.

      • Miss Jupitero says:

I do not believe for a minute that he did not audition.

      • Josa says:

Since Benny did his recording for Jungle Books this fall, while Tom has 2014 completely filled up for works. I don’t think Tom has time to even audition for a part that he can’t fit into his schedule.

      • 'P'enny says:

Andy Serkis works with Benedict a lot on the Hobbit, he offered Benny the role, straight up. I doubt very much it would have gone up for audition in the first place.

    • Allegra says:

      @altariel :

Don´t worry like @ellesbelles said Tom is very talented and he will get great roles outside Marvel.

      • altariel says:

        Thanks 🙂

      • Josa says:

I hope no one is still worrying about Tom getting roles outside Marvel. Isn’t 2014 good enough a year to show that he has no problem with that? 3 movies in cinema next year all main roles, a new franchise he already signed on and possibly a new TV mini-series that caused a bidding war, not to mention those movies that he turned down that we’ve known such as Ben Hur and Me Before You, assuming there are probably some that we don’t know. Marvel is putting Loki everywhere because he’s their trump card. If they can find someone else that can help carry the load and not have to put Loki everywhere, and Iron Man too for that matter, that will be great.

    • icerose says:

of course you do realise they could end up in a film together-not quite what some have hoped for but needs must

    • Catherine says:

“Marvel is Tom territory”, it’s also RDJ, Hemsworth and Chris Evans territory.

  34. Ratherbeme says:

I watched the whole Muse of Fire video today and came to a conclusion. Tom is that friend everyone has and loves and silently cries when you can tell they are about to start a long winded winding answer (with footnotes!) to a simple yes or no question.

But dear god did i need a cigarette after that. And i dont smoke.

    • icerose says:

But they also know what ever he says will be interesting and insightful so they are happy to just listen and respond later. The interviewers were very good at asking open ended questions which enabled something more interesting than yes/no or platitudes

  35. Domino says:

The difference is that Tom has a 99.9% likability rate, whereas probably 25% of Benedict’s reblogs are about how stupid he is, so he shouldn’t pat himself on the back so much.

    • Allegra says:

      You´re right about Tom.
People reblog a lot his meeting with fans, the story the letter that he sent to Joss, the Ice Chalenge e many others.

  36. Allegra says:

    @Josa:
I going to post the link you requested again here, ok?
It´s a bit longer than you thought. Like you said Tom mentioned Leo Dicaprio at mark 11:10.

  37. ellesbelles says:

This is how addicted to these threads I am. Im checking in from dinner with my fwb. Tom > dinner . No shame

  38. **sighs** says:

so, i’m watching Archipelago. well, i say watching, but it’s more like on in the background while i’m on the interwebs.
it’s…..certainly not the most engaging. i just watched the cook look at crabs for a full minute. just look at them.
i get what the director was going for. intellectually, i get it. but wow, i could just go on holiday with my certain members of my family if i wanted to watch a bunch of repressed feelings.

sorry, i didn’t keep up with the last thread when everyone was discussing this.

    • Grace says:

I watched Archipelago for the second time the night before last. The first time I did not care for it, found it too slow-moving and too quiet. The second time it got a little bit better, sort of. I get the feeling that Hogg rather show you than tell you. The dialogues weren’t particularly awe-inspiring on their own, at the first glance it seemed slightly all over the place really, like there were several sub-plots going on (Why was the sister crying in bed? Why was Edward telling his mother a random dream that makes very little sense? Then I realised the sister was closer to the dad and Edward to the mum.) to paint the overall picture: they were not really intersecting except for the fact that the family members, the painter and the cook were thrown together in one house for the duration of the holiday, with no much to do and nowhere to run.

But I did like her attention to details on the landscape, and that their body languages and expression played a huge part in the story – normally those are not the things I notice straightway but I did for Archipelago. The disorganisation is interesting. And I think it did come together towards the end.

      • **sighs** says:

I think my problem with it was that I thought it was directorial-y lazy. It was just static shots. The actors did all the heavy lifting. I feel like if you’re going to go to the trouble of making a film you should use the advantages that film offers you. I feel that it probably would have made a much better play. Certainly the staging lends itself to that, and you would at least have a palpable audience reaction.

      • icerose says:

I think a lot of the the dialogue is improvised in her films

      • icerose says:

I have loved through the restaurant scene many times with my family and just watching it was excruciating,. She is very much about subtext and non verbal communications. The silences often communicated more than the dialogue.

      • MtnRunner says:

I enjoyed Archipelago, but realize that it’s not for everyone. It’s a slow burn…Hogg communicates through subtlety and minimal dialog. I had to watch it with no other distractions so I could sit in it and process during the static scenes (which were incredibly beautiful).

At first the family looks like they get on well, but you begin to see that they’re really quite fractured, particularly the siblings and all of them in relation to the father. Edward’s attic bedroom is metaphoric of the walls closing in around him due to his indecisiveness regarding Africa, not having a life direction, his interest in Rose despite having a girlfriend back home. He finds a father figure of sorts in the painter as we never see him talking to his dad on the phone, so we assume there’s not much of a relationship there. The scene at the restaurant was so cringe-inducing and unlike Unrelated, things didn’t get wrapped up nicely in the end.

I’m not sure why I enjoyed it so much and wanted to see it again tbh. But I really enjoyed the performances, the dialogue (which seemed impromptu at times) and the scenery. Best watched alone and with a big pot of tea (or two) in my opinion.

I thought Unrelated was very good, but hit a little too close to home as I related far too much to Anna. So I probably won’t watch it again. I didn’t care much for Exhibition, though done similarly to Archipelago, but I presume I just didn’t care for the setting or the subject matter as much. Not sure. I like Hogg’s style though, when in the mood for that sort of thing.

      • MtnRunner says:

I watched OLLA again last night with the huz and I’ll be owning that one before too long. Another slow burn, but Tom and Tilda are oh so good in it. It’s wonderful to see a good relationship between a married couple portrayed on film.

      • Oh Hey says:

It’s probably good because they don’t live together, LOL, except I hope they do now, because he really needs Eve….not that I’m invested in that relationship..or anything……

      • MtnRunner says:

        @OhHey, of course you aren’t. 🙂

I was curious why they didn’t live together. I gather that Adam didn’t like Tangiers, but no other reason than that.

The scottishness gets me, but its the laugh. I cant help but blush pink when I hear the laugh, or when he says I apologize unreservedly. STOP BEING SO GENTLEMANLY TOM! I cant handle it!

  40. et alors says:

I normally try to keep my posts related to the topic at hand, but this tumblr post about a chance meeting with Tom made me wheeze with laughter, particularly this line:

I listened to that 40 minute interview in the car on the way in this morning and it yet again solidified why I enjoy Tom so much. I really love when people are vocal about their passions without being afraid of being mocked for it. If you havent heard it yet, highly recommended.

    • Grace says:

That’s really cool. I am not familiar with theatre awards. Is whatsonstage important?

      • icerose says:

public awards -one vote per person only and if you try twice they will not let you back to the page, They still have some prestige although older theatre folk feel they have been high jacked by younger fans.

    • Allegra says:

      Gosh, this will be tough!
So far Tom lost 2 polls to David Tennant this year.

      @ icerose:
Richard Armitage made it this time. But what happened with Martin Freeman?

      • Oh Hey says:

Those polls are beyond dodgy, I’ve sat there when I know most of the UK is asleep and voted repeatedly and watched my man’s total go down not up, same thing that happened with BC. Can’t be arsed with them anymore.

      • Allegra says:

        Agree.
And Radiotimes and The Anglophenia´s polls are the worst.
But I´m going to give one try in this poll.

      • icerose says:

I saw Freeman in Richard 111 it was he was okay bit not outstanding.

      • icerose says:

yes but he was third on my list and Tom is still at the top followed by Mark.

      • icerose says:

@OhHey These are more on the serious side and it is for a specific performance and one person one vote and once you have voted they will not let you onto the voting page again

Blessedly I seem to be ok this morning. I took Tylenol and drank lots of water last night and its done the trick! Im usually not a beer girl, but I certainly was last night!

      • joe spider says:

Glad to hear it. Is tylenol what we know as paracetamol? Hope you had a good time.

I have friends coming round for a meal tonight so may be a bit fragile in the morning. 🙂

      • ellesbelles says:

I just googled, and yes Tylenol is a trade name for acetaminophen which is paracetamol. I need to start absorbing this kind of info if I’m going to persue emigrating across the pond some day!

I did NOT want to go to the party, but my boss and coworker, more like my brothers than coworkers, insisted I go, so I had a stella (or three) to get through it. It ended up being pretty great. When I got home, I kind of drunk watched Return to Crandford and just fell in love with it. Love period pieces, and of course Tom. He did those puppy dog eyes far too well for my altered state.

      • Lilacflowers says:

Do NOT take Tylenol if you have been drinking! There are warnings about it right on the bottle.
