Miranda Lambert on losing 20 lbs: It ‘feels good to know your sh-t’s not jiggling’

MC Jan '15 - Miranda Lambert Newsstand

Miranda Lambert covers the January issue of Marie Claire. The photoshoot is surprisingly good, I think. Marie Claire’s editorial have been hit-or-miss as of late, but this is genuinely a great cover. Miranda’s blue eyes pop, her hair looks breezy and underdone and she’s found a good weight. Over the past two years, Miranda’s weight has fluctuated – she used to be a curvy girl. That’s not a euphemism either. She had a great figure and she was curvy. But then she dieted and lost a lot of weight and she sort of went too far. It was like the Jennifer Hudson thing – the weight loss made Miranda look older and tired. Thankfully, she gained some weight back and she’s found a happy medium. And Miranda addressed the gossip about her weight in Marie Claire. Some highlights:

On her 20-pound weight loss: “When you have to walk out there in front of thousands of people, it does feel good to know that your sh-t’s not jiggling. I’m just like anybody else, insecure and scared of looking bad or being criticized. But everybody’s making this big, giant thing about it. It’s way too much focus on women’s bikini photos, and I hate it. Why do we care? I want women to love themselves whatever they’ve got going on.”

On writing and singing her own songs: “Early on, an artist told me, ‘Don’t be yourself. Perform and be someone else. And I thought, ‘That seems like exactly the opposite of what I should be doing.’ Then I had people wanting me to adjust my lyrics to be more appealing to the masses or whatever. I said, ‘No, that’s bullshit.’ I’d rather sell four copies of something that’s real than 4 million copies of something that’s fake.”

On marriage: “I’m not sunshine and roses. Blake’s the happiest person on the planet. He pulls me out of my darkness… Literally everything is the best about being married.”

On her chosen career: “When I first started playing bars in Texas, my parents had to come so I could get in. I didn’t have any other plans. I didn’t go to college. There was no, ‘if this doesn’t work out…’ It was like: ‘This has to work out!’ When I walk into a bar and smell old beer and cigarettes, it smells like home, because that’s where I grew up.”

On lightening up psychologically: “I’m always anxious. I will worry myself into oblivion. I was trying to make everything regimented, and it caused too much stress. I learned everything doesn’t have to be perfect. That sometimes it’s OK to say, ‘I don’t want to be the boss today. I have PMS. Bother someone else.’ I like things better flawed anyway.”

On her Claritin: “It’s just allergies. I’m not afraid of a pill. I have to take them in the mornings because I drink a lot. Advil helps. So does a Bloody Mary.”

How much she actually drinks: “You know when you have to check those boxes when you go to the doctor? Do you drink every day? Never? Socially? I’m always like, Hmm, the truth or not the truth?” She checks “socially.”

[From Marie Claire]

Blake Shelton talks about alcohol in a similar way too – to hear Blake tell it, he’s getting hammered every single day, although some say his good ol’ drunk boy thing is just a carefully cultivated image. I do wonder about that. I suspect that alcohol plays a big part in Miranda and Blake’s married life and I wonder if they need something to “lubricate” their marriage to make it work. But hearing Miranda say that she’s a worrier and anxious and all of that stuff, it makes me wonder if we’ve been misreading Miranda and Blake’s “marriage troubles” this whole time. Maybe she’s just anxious and Blake is the one who makes her relax. And if he can’t make her relax, maybe he just gets her a drink.

As for Miranda’s “twenty pound weight loss”… her sh-t was NOT jiggling before, though. That’s the thing. Her body was perfectly lovely before. It feels like she wants to have the Taylor Swift/Carrie Underwood type of body.

    As long as she’s ️happy 🙂

Holy Photoshop on the cover shot!! Where is the rest of her right leg? and, what is the odd shadow on her left foot? Has her big toe from one foot blended in with the other foot? So. Many. Questions.

    • Jess says:

I stared at her leg wondering the same thing, looks very odd.

      • Blackcat says:

Since they chose this one for the cover, imagine what the other photos must have looked like! Looks like she has some kind of crazy alien knee coming out of her dress.

      • FLORC says:

I’ve seen worse. This looks fine.
though it is a heavy hand that did that photo it’s not as bad as what could have happened.

  4. scout says:

LOL! I share her happiness of “less jiggles”. I lost 14lbs too, feels damn good.

    • original kay says:

      me too!

well, 12 but I am looking for another 3. feels great. I didn’t go down a size, my old clothes now fit comfortably again, thank the gods.
      yay for us!

Funny, same thing happened here. I lost 13 pounds (wanted 15 but I plateaued here and I’m telling myself that’s ok). I was hoping to be in a smaller size jeans and that didn’t happen. Same old clothes, just a lot less tight 😀

I’m impressed she was able to lose 20 lbs while still “drinking a lot”. Usually alcohol is the enemy of weight loss, isn’t it?
I always get the impression their marriage is filled with a lot of drama and anxiety. I hope it’s just tabloid crap, but who knows.

As you know the real story will come put after the divorce. They found each other while married to others, but they have the good sense to not bring it up. The hubby comes off like a charmer so this may not end well for her.

  6. Kelly says:

She looks fantastic. Can anybody tell me where the clothes are from? Do I have to sell a child to get this stuff?

    • Tifygodess24 says:

The blue dress looks beautiful , wish there was a picture of her standing in it. Love to see what the whole dress looks like .

  7. Anon says:

What i find the most interesting is how Blake and Miranda get a pass for an affair while Blake was married but Leanne doesnt..

  8. word says:

Ok honestly you know what I hate? I hate when women are heavier and say “I love my curves, who cares what the world thinks !”. But then they lose weight and are like “I’m so glad I lost weight, I hated the extra pounds”. And then they become “fat shamers” and try to lecture everyone into losing weight. Then years pass and they slowly gain the weight back and all of a sudden they love being heavy again and hate skinny people lol.

I’m not saying Miranda is this way, I’m just saying there are people out there who really do this !

Yes, Christina Aguilera. Jennifer Love Hewitt. Jennifer Hudson. So many …

Funny. i just saw this people article on this very topic

      http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20880390,00.html

I identify with Marissa in the article. I recently lost 45 lbs, but was never really unhappy with how i looked prior to that. I was, however, unhappy with my ease (or lack thereof) of physical activity and general healthy well-being. For me, it’s not about how other people see me, bc i don’t give a sh** what you think, but rather it’s about how i FEEL physically. I have to say, i’m still probably what people would consider overweight (5’4″, size 10) if you saw me, but walking up a flight of stairs is a heck of a lot easier 45 lbs lighter!

We know a guy who was on Nashville Star with her (yep, she also came from a singing show but it doesn’t get mentioned much…rightfully so as she is majorly talented…but some who do come from singing shows sure get ripped…ok, off the topic) and he said she was a hellion, they dated a bit during that time, but she was truly a wild one and the drinking commentary is no surprise at all. She didn’t have any qualms about dating “taken” men back then either.

I find her and Blake’s schtick too much most times but I do give her props for her talent as it is definitely real and not manufactured for show.

But I’d still take Dolly any day. Who wouldn’t? LOL

  10. Shaz says:

I thought she was gorgeous before. She is now too, but better before.

  11. Happy21 says:

Thank you for the comment about her wanting a Carrie Underwood body.

As much as I like Miranda, I feel like the last few years she’s been morphing into Carrie Underwood. The super blonde hair, the weight loss, the spray (or fake) tan. I’d take Miranda any day over Carrie Underwood.

I think she looked beautiful before and I think she is still beautiful and I appreciate her comments about being insecure and feeling that there is too much focus on women in bikini photos. There is. And not even celebs. It’s almost an epidemic. Women who are in their mid-30’s are going crazy trying to look hot in selfies and in bathing suits. It just seems so vain to me. Be happy with who you are at your healthiest. I find it sad that girls are growing up thinking that being hot is everything. Sorry that was a little off topic 😉

That being said, if Miranda can stay who she is and the size that she is then I believe she’s really happiest here.

Not a country and western fan but this woman is talented. I think she looks better with the weight loss. Good for her for keeping it off. It’s more about your health versus if you feel good being fat it’s ok. It’s not!
