2015 SAG nominations: Who got nominated & who got snubbed?

wenn21937051

Yay, I’m so happy that some of the bigger awards nominations are being announced this week! Today we have the SAG nominations and tomorrow we’ll have the Golden Globes nominations. It should be major. Our beloved Benedict Cumberbatch got nominated for Sherlock AND The Imitation Game. And shock of all shocks, JENNIFER ANISTON GOT NOMINATED FOR CAKE. Let’s get to it! Here’s the list for film:

Best Ensemble: Birdman, Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, The Theory of Everything.

Best Actor: Steve Carell (Foxcatcher), Benedict Cumberbatch (TIG), Jake Gyllenhaal (Nightcrawler), Michael Keaton (Birdman), Eddie Redmayne (TTOE)

Best Actress: Jennifer Aniston (Cake), Felicity Jones (TTOE), Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), Reese Witherspoon (Wild)

Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette (Boyhood), Keira Knightley (TIG), Emma Stone (Birdman), Meryl Streep (Into the Woods), Naomi Watts (St. Vincent)

Best Supporting Actor: Robert Duvall (The Judge), Ethan Hawke (Boyhood), Edward Norton (Birdman), Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher), JK Simmons (Whiplash)

Any surprises? No Channing Tatum for Foxcatcher – it’s almost like that film peaked too soon, but Ruffalo and Carell managed to get nominations. I can’t believe Meryl got nominated for Into the Woods. They will literally nominate her for anything at this point. Robert Duvall’s inclusion surprised me because The Judge looked like such a Lifetime movie. I’m also surprised that people are still in love with Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler. Huh.

Let’s see… NO Laura Dern for Wild, which is surprising because she really wants it. And no love for any of the actors of Unbroken – it was a pipe dream to think Jack O’Connell would get nominated, but I’m surprised that there’s no Miyavi on the supporting list. I’m pleased to see Rosamund Pike is getting some love and I hope she makes it to the Oscars too. And YAY Cumby and Redmayne!

Here are some of the TV awards:

Best Ensemble in a Comedy TV: Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Orange Is the New Black, Modern Family, Veep

Best Ensemble in a Drama TV: Boardwalk Empire, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Homeland and House of Cards

You can see more of the TV nominations here – there’s not much difference from last year, except there’s no Breaking Bad and people are sort of tired of Mad Men (MM was completely shut out, actually). True Detective couldn’t even manage an ensemble award! And Julia Roberts got nominated for The Normal Heart. I hope she loses again so we can see her Sore Loser Face like at the Emmys this year.

So maybe the Fauxmance was worth it afterall, huh, Ben?

  2. Jaderu says:

No Tater and Jen got her nod. Going back to bed.
    #sadtaterho
I am happy for JK Simmons though.

    • Jayne says:

I cant wait for the epic meltdown if/when Aniston starts picking up awards for Cake. I’m not a Jen fan, just a sadist. I love to watch my fellow gossips suffer……

      • Lol, you so mean Jayne. I like it 😉

      • Jaderu says:

LOL Some commenters just want to watch the world burn.
Come sit next to me Jayne. 😉

      • Peppa says:

Hahahaha… I cannot stand her as an actress, but I haven’t seen Cake (who has?) so I’m not going to automatically assume her performance is terrible. I highly doubt she will win anything, but lots of mediocre actors and actresses hustle for awards every single year, and sometimes they even win. She is not the first and she won’t be the last, but if that makes a certain fanbase feel better, then we will just have to let them believe she is the only so-so actress to ever hustle for an award.

      • vauvert says:

The world is coming to an end. Crawling back in bed with cheesecake.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Jayne, who wrote: “I cant wait for the epic meltdown if/when Aniston starts picking up awards for Cake. I’m not a Jen fan, just a sadist. I love to watch my fellow gossips suffer…… ”

Nah, you won’t need to break out the smelling salts unless Jennifer Aniston actually ‘wins’ an Award. Sorry to burst any balloons–especially the ‘Loons be so crazy, they meltdown all the time!’ balloons at Female First, but my prediction is that no one will actually get The Vapors from Jennifer Aniston nominations. After all, it HAS been a great campaign. 🙂

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Absinthe, anyone?

      • ne says:

Except she will not be picking up any awards! Nominations, but no wins.

      • MtnRunner says:

*holding out a 96 oz tumbler for Lilac*

      • Kim1 says:

        Congrats to Jen
After twenty years of making films she finally gets nominated for a film role.
        Miracles do happen
I can’t wait to see her baby bump when she accepts her award

      • MaximeduCamp says:

Not really a fan of Anistin’s film work outside of The Good Girl, but I do remember that her performance in Cake garnered a lot of praise at TIFF earlier this year. I recall even reading the term “Oscar worthy.” I was kinda surprised it wasn’t mentioned on Celebitchy as the Aniston threads get a fair bit of traffic.

I’m surprised Tatum didn’t get a nom. I saw Foxcatcher, and while Carell and Ruffalo were great, it was Tatum’s performance that broke my heart.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Ha! I have to admit…I did think about how Jen’s nomination would cause some fury and I looked forward to its entertainment value.

      • nic919 says:

I saw Cake at TIFF and she was pretty good in it. Certainly far better than anything she has done in years.

      • Tammy says:

I saw her in Horrible Bosses… liked it and I think she made the film, to be honest lol. Although Charlie from its always Sunny in Philadelphia was hilarious.

      • Anny says:

I simply love to watch the world burn too. Can I sit with you? I can bring popcorn and we can’t happily watch people lose their minds over it.
I really want her to win Oscar. I am just evil that way.

      • Misprounced Name Dropper says:

Hahaha. I’m with you. A nom for Jen and non for Unbroken.

        Jen 1
        Ange 0

Wow. That best actor category is going to very competitive. Keaton, Carell or Gyllenhaal could win that one, as they all gave great performances.

      • Tippy says:

I’m impressed with Jennifer’s nomination gameplan.

Small studio and no major distributor meant that Cake had substantially less monetary clout with which to campaign.

Jenn essentially began a grass roots movement which is steadily building momentum at the right time.

Her perseverance could pay off big-time.

      • gefeylich says:

Whoa, Aniston’s PR barrage actually worked for the SAGs. That means she and her crew are REALLY turning the screws on people whom they think owe her.

And…you’re kidding about a nomination for Tatum, Kaiser – aren’t you? That guy redefines “lumpen,” and can’t act his way out of a paper bag. However, if Aniston could score a nom for her usual “dramatic” turn of not wearing makeup and dragging around glumly onscreen in an indie, I suppose Tatum should have had a shot, too

  3. aims says:

I really liked Boyhood. So that’s nice to see.

  4. bns says:

Yay for my baby Edward Norton. Love him so much.

No Laura Dern? I like Emma Stone, but I can’t at her getting nominations this year. And none for Kristen Stewart :p Her team does a really good job at drumming up fake Oscar buzz for her every single year and then it never happens.

    • Charlie says:

I thought she was really good in Birdman.

      • bns says:

I just feel like she plays herself in everything idk.

      • ds says:

@bns I feel the same. And I know I’m a minority but her face irritates me; she does something, some mimic I just can’t stand. She’s cute, love her on red carpets; but I just don’t think she’s something special on screen. Am open to being proved wrong.
        Love Norton!

      • jammypants says:

I liked her in Magic in the Moonlight. I thought she was different in that film to what I’m used to.

      • Tiffany :) says:

ds, that is so interesting! I find her amazing on screen…her eyes are so unique. In Birdman, they lighted her from the side quite a bit, you could kind of see into her green eyes like they were marbles. I agree that she plays variations on the same role, but I do think she has an amazing face for film and a sincerity that works very well.

    • littlestar says:

I admit it, I love Edward Norton too. Can’t help myself when it comes to him.

  5. Jen says:

Gag…I’m so annoyed looking at that Cumberhooch alien face. I do not get why some people like him. 3 seconds and I’m done even looking at him.

    • Beth says:

      Cumberhooch! Dying. 😀

And ssshhhh… presumably no other Cumberhoochie news today so poor Kaiser has got to find some way to stick his face in the front photo…

    • Melancholia says:

      LOL dead

My friend in London has seen him irl a few times and hes apparently even worse in person if you can believe it

  6. The New Classic says:

Keira Knightley wasn’t in The Theory of Everything (TTOE) she was in The Imitation Game (TIG).

If she was good enough that they wanna give her an award for a movie she wasn’t even in, I’ll definitely tune in to watch!

  7. Charlie says:

No Channing Tatum for Foxcatcher – no, no ,no, no, no! He was AMAZING! Stole the movie for me!

I’m oddly happy for Jennifer Aniston.

  8. bree says:

    Aniston will be insufferable now.
Her pr team sure worked hard for a film and performance with average reviews out of TIFF.

Do not forget a lot of SAG voters are TV voters voting.

    • littlestar says:

I’m kind of glad she got nominated – it’ll be good for gossip! So good for us! LOL.

      • Haha, littlestar me too. And you know now we’re gonna be able to see the happy, in lurve couple now. So it’ll be good for Aniston-Theroux fans. They’ll finally be in the same state…plenty of RC’s.

      • Sullivan says:

Yep! Aniston gossip is comforting. Hair, makeup, womb, and now, Cake.

      • someonestolemyname says:

The voting nominating body of SAG has seen CAKE. Now the screeners will go out to all SAG members to screen and vote or they can choose to go to screenings.

      • @someonestolemyname
That’s a good point. Maybe more people will be interested in seeing the movie when it goes out in theaters, and then when it goes out on DVD/VOD/etc.

      • littlestar says:

Ohhh yes! She is going to bring Justin out in full force now, pimp him out for everything he’s worth so she can win an award, dammit! Lol.

    • bns says:

I haven’t seen Cake, but people are making a big deal out of her being “ugly” for the movie and it’s ridiculous. Same goes for Reese Witherspoon.

      • Beth says:

I’ve watched the trailer and it looks pretty awful.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Nobody has seen Cake.

      • Kiddo says:

Witherspoon looks naturally pretty in her new film.

      • bns says:

        @Kiddo

Yeah, but isn’t the whole “I wore the no-makeup-makeup look!” a part of her campaign?

      • Kiddo says:

bns, Don’ know. I saw her being interviewed but it was something about her kids seeing the film later blah blah blah, and I didn’t pay too much attention. What I did notice was the difference in her interview appearance, where she had a globs of eye shadow on, contrasted with her appearance in the film, where I actually thought she looked better sans fards, and more youthful.

    • Wilma says:

This might get Aniston to quit the sloppy comedies and pursue some better material in the future.

    • Dallas says:

Oh, this is delicious! And yes, the SAG Members are television and screen. What difference does it make?

      .
      This from SAG….

“The awards focus on both individual performances as well as on the work of the entire ensemble of a drama series and comedy series, and the cast of a motion picture. These honors are fundamental to the spirit of the Screen Actors Guild Awards because they recognize what all actors know – that acting is a collaborative art.”

    • someonestolemyname says:

It is film and tv, it crosses a wide spectrum, but there is a large body of tv voters.

      • doofus says:

there’s the same number of TV people and movie people who choose the noms. From Wiki (yes, I know it’s not most accurate but for this small item I think it’ll do):

“Nominations for the awards come from two committees, one for film and one for television, each numbering 2100 members of the union, randomly selected anew each year, with the full membership (165,000 as of 2012) available to vote for the winners.”

so, there are two 2100-member teams, one for TV and one for film. same number of each group represented, unless I’m reading that wrong.

      • Kitten says:

If McDormand doesn’t win for Olive I will throw a shit-fit.

        That is all.

      • Kiddo says:

A conundrum: always wishing good for McDormand but getting to see a kitten shitfit. Tough choice.

  9. littlestar says:

Best Ensemble in a Drama TV: Where the heck is Hannibal? That show is seriously one of the best shows on TV right now! Just like it didn’t get any Emmy nods this year….. >:|

    • Lindy79 says:

      Don’t get me started!!!

    • jammypants says:

      That show is so underrated.

    • Erinn says:

I love hate that show. I love it so much, but am so freaked out by it. But I don’t want to stop watching, because it sucks you in… but by the end of last season I was just glad I was done with it. Some of the issue I think is that we watched it on Netflix/downloading and not as it came out… so I kind of over saturated in the bleakness.

      • littlestar says:

It is very dark. After each episode I always think, “They won’t be able to top THAT.” And yet the next episode, they somehow top it with it with gruesomeness and creativity. The creator of the show has a very twisted mind haha. I made my bestfriend binge watch the first season on one Sunday this past summer, so he could see what I’ve been raving about. About 7 episodes in he said we needed to go outside and go for a walk because the show was starting to get to him mentally haha.

    • Kori says:

LOVE Hannibal. My college-age daughter and I watch it and then message each other about it. She’s obsessed with Mads M. I think the show is vastly underrated. I don’t mind violence when it’s not cartoony (like hah-hah let’s slice this lady open or violence porn (ala Hostel where you are supposed to enjoy the suffering shown). There’s something Grand Guignol about Hannibal and the performances are excellent. I cannot wait for it to come back and resolve the cliffhangers. I wish it got more positive attention–it’s the most cable-like show on broadcast TV in my opinion.

    • Melancholia says:

I love Hannibal. Eagerly awaiting Season 3…

  10. evasmom says:

I cannot believe that JA was nominated. WOW!! It goes to show that it is a popularity contest. What nonsense. I have to give it to her though-her hussle paid off. But I guess in a world where Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock have Oscars, she should have one too.

    • bree says:

Moore is the favorite to win.
I can’t see Aniston being Oscar nominated over so many more talented actresses.

    • bns says:

SAG noms always have a surprise person in there. I don’t think Aniston will go to the Oscars, either.

      • lower-case deb says:

i can actually see her go all the way (to the Oscars–she still have clout–loadsa friends in right places, and hustle power), and losing to Julianne. and we will from now on see Academy Award (r) Nominee next/-above her name in films.

actually it might help her get more of those juicy roles she’s been wanting to get.

        good for gossip? yes!

    • gefeylich says:

You’re forgetting that Roberts and Bullock can actually act and have a bit of range. Aniston has none (unless you call “no makeup saddos” and 1000 versions of Rachel Green “range”).

  11. Cj says:

No Mbatha raw ,it’s completely white washed

  12. Beth says:

    YAAAASSSSSS Jake Gyllenhaal! <3

    And Anniston… huh? 😀

How on earth did Theory of Everything get an emsemble nom?

  13. Sumodo1 says:

“Boyhoood” took 12 years for an ensemble to film, and it deserves the award, too.

  14. Betti says:

If he wins it will be for Sherlock not TIG. The best actor will go to either Steve Carrel or Michael Keaton or if you want to place bets on an outsider, Eddie Redmayne.

I have a feeling that his ‘im not campaigning’ will bite him on the ass and he won’t get nominated for the GG or Oscars – i just can’t take any more of the fauxmance and all the bad acting that comes with it. When you have Joaquin Phoenix shading you (ahem, or your convenient engagement) on a big US TV show then you know that no one in the industry is really taking you seriously.

    • Beth says:

He will be nominated for the GGs I think. It’s a popularity contest and prone to being bought and Harvey will buy a nom if he needs to.

I also think he has a good chance of an Oscar nom. But unlikely to win.

I’d love to see Keaton win. My other two favourite actors in this race are Timothy Spall and Jake Gyllenhaal but they are not frontrunners unfortunately. Not really a fan of Eddie Redmayne but he was excellent in Theory of Everything (movie was bad though).

    • Lindy79 says:

Are the SAG not a fairly good indication though of what you can expect for the Oscars and GG?
      (Aniston aside)

      • Tippy says:

The Screen Actors Guild is filled with actual Oscar and Emmy Awards voters and clearly should provide insight into how those two awards might shake out every season.

The SAG Awards appear to allow for a total of five nominations per category. If the Golden Globes and Oscars allow for five or more nominations that would indicate that SAG nominees stand a decent chance of also being nominated for the GG or especially the Oscar.

      • Beth says:

The Oscars only have five nomination slots for Best Actor. Best Picture, however, has up to 10 slots. So the chances of TIG getting a Best Picture nom are very high. BC faces tougher competition in the (more limited) Best Actor category, though I think he will get a nod too.

For Golden Globes, there are 10 slots for Best Actor – 5 in Drama, and another 5 in Comedy. TIG is a drama, and Benny boy is almost certainly getting a GG nom as his competitors such as Michael Keaton and Joaquin Phoenix will likely be moved over to Comedy for their movies (Birdman and Inherent Vice), thereby freeing up space in the Drama category.

But the GGs are notorious for bribery so I would say SAG is a more credible indicator.

  15. minx says:

Aniston got nominated?! I can’t believe it.

  16. Talie says:

Jennifer hustled for it, so good for her!

    • ne says:

It should be about the talent not how hard you hustle.
I have never seen an actress make such a big deal about not wearing makeup, and using it as their narrative about why they should be nominated.

      • SpookySpooks says:

Is anyone still so naive to think it’s about talent? They all hustle big time, Benny boy got engaged for God’s sake. Ahe was decent in Cake, people won Oscars for less (Penelope Cruz, anyone?)

      • TheCountess says:

“It should be about the talent not how hard you hustle.”

That’s the funniest thing I’ve read in a while, thanks.

      • Melancholia says:

“It should be about the talent not how hard you hustle.”

        Are you new…?

      • Tammy says:

        Have you seen Cake?

    • Dallas says:

I would have to give the “Hustle” award to Jolie! Did you watch that sappy “give me an Oscar” fest with Tom Brokaw last night? Oh, my!

  17. Maya says:

So the bribing and begging worked for Jennifer.

I have never seen another actress believing the hype about themselves. This woman is already the biggest narcissistic actress and now she is going to even more pain the ass.

    • ne says:

      No it would not be.
Angelina at least has won awards for film work. And she also has things to talk about besides her HAIR.

    • Marny says:

How many people commenting on here have actually seen Cake? I haven’t so I don’t really know how she did. Her wanting and working for an award doesn’t make her in any way unique.

    • gefeylich says:

I don’t think Aniston is necessarily more of a narcissist than any other Hollywood actress. She’s just less talented and more one note, and has been coasting on a beloved TV role for years. As she no longer can credibly play ditsy rom-com leads, is wary of playing mothers and cannot carry a dramatic role in a big movie to save her life, she is grasping at the chance that a role in a small indie will get her a big award and some respect.

She’s campaigning as hard and as obviously as AnnE Hathaway did for Les Miserables, but Hathaway had a decent performance in a big movie behind her. But Aniston is calling in any and all debts for this awards season, probably working the “I deserve it for my body of work!” card, and apparently it’s succeeding. Hollywood is so incestuous and so willing to reward the meretricious.

  18. someonestolemyname says:

Anniston got in , next she will get a Golden Globe, nom…..but I don’t see Oscar nom for her. JMO

  19. InvaderTak says:

Yay for Mark Ruffalo! All hail the fluffalo!

  20. lucy2 says:

I’m happy for Rosamund Pike, she was excellent in Gone Girl. Also really happy for Steve Carell, I’ve always thought he was so underrated as a dramatic actor.
Yay Brooklyn Nine Nine, I love that show! But bummed Parks & Rec didn’t get an ensemble nod.

    • Erinn says:

I’m pumped for Nine Nine. I just realized the second season is airing already – I have a ton of catching up to do.

I’m also a little bummed at the lack of Mindy Project noms.

      • Esmom says:

I think you can thank TBBT for hogging a spot that should be reserved for a quality show like Mindy’s. Grr.

      • lucy2 says:

Yes you definitely have to catch up! I think I’ve enjoyed season 2 even more than season 1.

      • Hawkeye says:

There are some moments from the second season of Brooklyn Nine Nine that I saw weeks ago that I still replay in my mind and crack up about. That show is the best!

    • Tiffany :) says:

YAY for Rosamund!!! That made me so happy, I hope her nominations continue.

  21. lower-case deb says:

    Aniston hustle trumps Jolie hustle!
can’t wait for RC coverage to begin.

Fury and Unbroken only got stunt ensemble, what does that even mean?
(but anything to honor extras and stuntpeople… i’m okay with).

on another note, glad to see Tati Maslany.
sad not to see: Hannibal, Amy Adams, Gugu Mbatha-Rau.

  22. Peppa says:

I just want Michael Keaton to win all the awards. I love him and I loved Birdman. Steve Carrell is my second favorite. Foxcatcher was completely inaccurate, but it had some great performances. Rosamund is my choice for best actress but I would like to see Julianne win and I really want to see Still Alice. I’d like Patricia Arquette to win (loved Medium… don’t even care) and either J.K. Simmons or Norton for supporting actor. Also Tatiana Maslany. Seriously I will cry if she loses. I’d also really like to see Boardwalk Empire win as well as Buscemi. I was a huge fan of that show and it pains me that it got such a truncated final season when shows like Greys Anatomy (which I still watch and it is terrible) and The Big Bang Theory keep trucking (I realize they aren’t on pay cable, but it is hard to find quality shows RIP Sons of Anarchy)

  23. Nuzzybear says:

Ah, it’s so good to see SAG recognizing people of color…ful outfits. Bunch of white actors praising other white actors again. (sigh)

  24. someonestolemyname says:

Reports nothing official just rumour so far Princess Charlene at hospital….may be giving birh.

Anyway wow JennA got nomination. Good for her, Congrats Jenn.

  25. Grant says:

    Go Aniston!

  26. Nola says:

I like Meryl as much as the next person but Hollywood is so focus on giving her next award that they overlook some amazingly talented actresses each season.

I’m still upset that Meryl’s third Oscar mattered more than Viola getting her first (and only).

  27. Ctkat1 says:

Super shocked at aniston, but good for her- she’s certainly hustled enough for it. So happy Tatiana Maslany got a nom!!

  28. Josefa says:

I wanted Sarah Paulson to get a nom for AHS Freakshow. I keep forgetting both twins are played by the same woman, even though they look the exact same. It’s one of the best performances on that show yet. And Finn Wittrock’s too.

  29. Lucifer says:

    Gylenhall !! <3

  30. ellesbelles says:

    Quick Thoughts:

I’ve never been Team Jen or Team Angie, but after reading about Scott Rudin calling Angie a spoiled brat, I cackled. So you go Jen Coco.

Beneath the magic mike and jump street crap, Channing Tatum is actually a fantastic actor. Sad Panda that there was no recognition

Happy for Ben of course, good actor and gorgeous beyond, in spite of the twattery.

    • CL says:

I will never be able to see JA without thinking “you go, Jen Coco”. I laughed out loud! I wish I could give you a star.

  31. jammypants says:

Yes! Rosamund got one. So glad. She was amazing in Gone Girl. Sad to hear Trued Detective didn’t get ensemble. The cast was what made the show, in my opinion.

  32. Debbie says:

Couldn’t care less about the movies but in terms of TV snubs are The Mindy project cast, mindy kaling, adam palley and I don’t know how about any individual actor not named Melissa fumero from Brooklyn 99!

those two shows are the best casts and shows on tv (along with veep) and should get recognition

    • Esmom says:

I posted above that as long as the lame TBBT gets nominated, that’s one less spot for quality shows to be recognized.

    • lucy2 says:

Yup, I’d do Brooklyn Nine Nine, Parks & Rec, Veep, and Mindy. TBBT irks me terribly, and it bothers me that they get so many award nominations.

    • Hawkeye says:

@Debbie, if you also think Amy Santiago is the worst thing about the show, plz come sit beside me.

@Esmom I completely agree regarding TBBT, and feel that way about Modern Family too.

      • Debbie says:

Oh I do think Amy is the worst part of the show, she lacks chemistry with the entire cast which is amazing in that cast. Honestly the will they won’t they with Jake and her actually hurts the show. She is only good when she is being slammed by rosa.

And yes the comedy nominations should have been Mindy, 99, parks, Veep and for me Silicon Valley. And the actors from those shows should have been nominated. TBbt and modern just aren’t funny and honestly the cast isn’t even trying to bring honesty to their performances anymore.

I love orange but it is not a comedy.

    • Marny says:

Yes- Mindy Project is the BEST!

  33. Lucifer says:

so u guys think whoever got a SAG nom will get an Oscar Nom?

    • ellesbelles says:

From what I understand, (admitted limited knowledge) The SAGS are a pretty good indicator for the big guns. It wouldve been nice to see Ben and Kiera get all of the awards from all of the smaller groups, but snubs there are not really big picture indicators.

Knowing Ben and Kiera are TWC show ponies does make me sad. I feel like backing from large studios dilutes the selection process.

      • Lucifer says:

        all bought and paid 🙁

      • rosie says:

You are right. These awards are mostly bought and paid for. These awards have lost any meaning for me. It’s all about marketing the film/actor. I don’t watch any of the awards shows.

I remember seeing a magazine display in a book store the year Natalie Portman won the Oscar for Black Swan. Her photos were on nearly every cover–womens mags, entertainment mags etc. Ugh–such overexposure.

      • Lindy79 says:

That and the whole selling how much of the dancing she did. They made it out that she had trained solidly for 2 years and had become near a prima ballerina.
She did mainly face and arm shots which does not a dancer make.

      • scarf girl says:

        ^^THIS

    • lower-case deb says:

i just read Lainey wrote that SAG members are by far the largest block in the Oscar voting group. so i guess so.

    • truthSF says:

Yes, for everyone but Aniston. If she does get nominated, TAA will lose it’s very last shred of dignity.

Actors who gives the performance of the year should hustle…if the want to beat another great performance. But actors who only did better than their worse needs to stop campaigning for ok work. And continue improvments on their crafts until their work is finally Oscar callibar.

      • littlestar says:

Yep, I was going to say the same thing. “Yes, for everyone but Aniston”. She might get a GG nom, but there is no way she’ll get an Oscar nom.

    • Beth says:

The SAG nominations are a pre-cursor, an indication for the Oscars. So are the Golden Globes, though that is less credible. But they are merely indications, not guarantees. Tom Hanks last year got a SAG, Golden Globe AND Bafta nomination for Best Actor in Captain Philiips and he was not nominated at the Oscars. And that’s Tom freakin’ Hanks.

But I’d say BC has a good chance of an Oscar nomination. Just that it is not set in stone.

  34. Sheena says:

    Congratulations, Jennifer Aniston!

  35. Dirty Tot says:

I just can’t get into Brooklyn 99 and I can’t believe The Mindy Project didn’t get an ensemble nomination. It’s one of the best sitcoms out there!

  36. CK says:

Unbroken snubbed and Aniston nominated for Cake? I’m guessing the SAG nominated were written by Scott Rudin.

  37. Zapp Brannigan says:

No love for KIrk Cameron’s Saving Christmas? This is clearly not a legit awards show.

  38. Sara says:

They did not single out Ralph Fiennes performance in the Grand Budapest. Outrageous! What does the man have to do to get an award? Well I guess I don’t need to bother to watch!

  39. Kitten says:

Francis McDormand’s performance in Olive Kitteridge is one of the best dramatic performances I’ve ever seen. I’m so happy for her-she knocked it out of the ballpark in that role.

  40. Chris says:

Supporting Actor: Duvall for The Judge? Really?! That was a pretty lame-ass schmaltzy movie. Thinking that nom should have gone to someone else. Josh Brolin in Inherent Vice.

  41. Coco says:

Why are you surprised by the Gyllenhaal love? He is brilliant in Nightcrawler and he deserves all the recognition he is getting.

    I don’t understand Naomi or Aniston’s noms. I mean, I haven’t seen Cake, but still…

  42. scout says:

THANK GOD! Atlast Jen got nominated for something!! Now I am relieved for her.

  43. twink says:

Jake Gyllenhaal deserves it, he was amazing in Nightcrawler!

  44. Birdie says:

“I’m also surprised that people are still in love with Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler.”

He was amazing in it, he should get #alltheawards!
I like Aniston’s nomination! It’s all about the hustle. Everyone shamelessly campaigns and I don’t mind her doing it.

  45. Luciana says:

If AnnE got her Oscar, why not Jennifer? Awards are PR. This goes for everyone nominated.

Only a few trully deserve them.

  46. A. Key says:

I really really really hope Jake Gyllenhaal wins. I really do. Best film and performance of the year for me.

  47. Ingrid says:

Lovely reaction from Eddie: “To be nominated by my peers, and to be included in a list that is comprised of so many actors I admire, is an incredible honor,” Eddie said in a statement. “And to be recognized alongside Felicity [Jones] and my castmates means the world. Huge, huge thanks to SAG-AFTRA; I am beyond grateful.”

And our Otter Pissybatch’s reaction will include the enGAGment, embarrassment of riches and normalizing… let’s wait…Or maybe he will post his reaction in the Times? Way more classy…

ETA: I was wrong and now very disappointed…

“I’m over the moon. And so delighted to receive recognition in such esteemed company for both Sherlock and The Imitation Game by my acting peers. What an amazing early Christmas present! Thank you to all who voted and watched both pieces of work.”

    • Lindy79 says:

He’s saving embarrassment of riches and the engagement stuff for interviews.

(He didn’t mention his castmates, especially since they got an ensemble nod, work harder Ben!)

      • Gracie says:

I felt like asking for the longest time – English is not my first language – what does embarrassment of riches even mean? Like a first class problem hence embarrassment?

      • Ingrid says:

It means that someone has had so much good fortune, it’s starting to get embarrassing.

(Right? English is not my first language either. LOL)

      • Gracie says:

@Ingrid, maybe it’s just me, but saying it’s too much good fortune he’s had sounds a lot better than embarrassment of riches – it sounds more like a catchphrase that’s endearing from time to time but not to be used all the time?

      • An says:

His castmates are mentioned in there, ensemble award so they’re ‘esteemed company’. It’s covering both them and the other nominees at once.

@ Ingrid and Gracie: ‘Embarrassment of riches’ is an idiom for too much of a good thing.

    • MissMary says:

“And thanks to those watching my current piece of work…the enGAGment.”

      • Ingrid says:

Unfortunately, it’s not an awards worthy performance.

Actress categories are really thin this year though, so maybe SH will get recognition. Her BIFA performance was almost flawless. She really disappeared into her role as a sweet and loving fiancee. I didn’t recognize her at all.

      • Gracie says:

The showstopper of the century *yawn* now I feel gagged.

      • MissMary says:

Maybe he can collect all the footage and clips from red carpets and such, paste them together in a few years and do a “found footage” documentary via SunnyMarch about “showmances”.

      • scarf girl says:

Gird yourselves ladies. Tomorrow we will have the Reese Witherspoon/Benny Zorro kissing video and eventually the Nerdist podcast. I have seen/listened to neither. I confess I have been more interested in the trailer for The Little Prince and coverage of Sony hack. Which is fascinating.

      • Felice says:

The Sony hack is so fascinating.

    • Angie says:

Well, maybe he really is over the moon this time. And it does seem self-centred.

While Eddie’s statement is quite sweet.

    • TotallyBiased says:

BendyBot has (wisely) learnt from his more verbally gracious peers, borrowing phrases from both Eddie R and the Hiddles (I’ve always enjoyed “over the moon”!)
He should keep his vision firmly fixed in that direction, IMO.

    • Emily says:

      Eddie is a gem.

  48. allheavens says:

I can’t believe SAG snubbed J.K. Simmons for Whiplash. I think his performance was better than Keaton’s in Birdman. Oh well.

Jake Gyllenhaal was very, very good in Nightcrawler but it’s just not the “right” kind of movie. Nice that Eddie got a nod but he won’t win. Don’t see Carell winning either. Cumberbatch I’m not going to completely count him out because this is the type of film Hollywood loves. Even though I think J.K. Simmons deserved a nod and the win it will probably go to Keaton.

Best Actress, Julianne Moore for Still Alice, though Rosamund Pike was very good in Gone Girl. Witherspoon was excellent in Wild but issues earlier this year may come into play. If JA wins for Cake I’ll throw a hammer at my flat screen. Felicity, sorry girl.

Best Supporting actress, Patricia Arquette for Boyhood pretty please.

Best Supporting Actor. Edward North for Birdman, because he almost stole the movie out from under Keaton.

And WTF? No True Detective in the Ensemble in a Drama Series. That’s a fail.

But I think awards season is going to be interesting.

    • A. Key says:

“Jake Gyllenhaal was very, very good in Nightcrawler but it’s just not the “right” kind of movie.”

That’s what I thought about Dallas Buyers Club last year, and look how that turned out.

But I get what you mean, it’s probably why I liked Nightcrawler so much. It’s entirely different from the 99% of storytelling out there today.

    • Angie says:

I personally like True Detective very much, the story itself, the way it’s told and all the sences. And the characters.

But, idk, seem like it isn’t that kind of easy going drama.

    • Insomniac says:

They didn’t snub Simmons. He’s in for supporting actor.

    • blended says:

JK Simmons did get a nomination.

  49. lucy2 says:

I’m excited for some of the TV ones – Amy Poehler, Tatiana Malsany, Uzo Aduba for OITNB, Viola Davis (even though I think her show is beneath her talents). The best part is the character list after Tatiana’s name:
Sarah/Coxima/Alison/Rachel/ – “ORPHAN BLACK” (BBC America)
    Helena/Tony/Jennifer and Various Others
They needed 2 lines and just threw a “Various Others” in there too, LOL. I would love to see her win it, she is amazing.

  50. folly says:

I am a big jolie fan but after reading aniston interview she did with scott feignberg(or whatever his name is)yesterday,i am kind of happy for her,it seems she had been turned down a lot by directors. She lamented how she wished they will allow her to prove herself, how she begged before given this script,i hope she will be given a chance after this but i still can’t see her getting oscar nom though

  51. Luca76 says:

Oh my god the cupcakes worked I have to admire her hustle! I’m also glad for her fans

  52. Soothy says:

    Wow. Zorro, eh?

    • Ingrid says:

Just posted about it on the previous thread. Why there isn’t a new thread? This is so confusing.

Also confusing, the Zorro…I need a cold shower…BRB

    • Angie says:

      That is…that is… I’m confused, too

ETA: I mean, is it meant to look like that? Poorly performanced burlesque or something? Why it suddenly looks like he can’t act?

      • Mikasa says:

        That was disturbing.
I bet he wishes it was Kiera he was kissing instead! He didn’t get that chance in TIG….poor Benny, I don’t think he’ll ever get that romcom film noir he’s always wanted!!

      • Ingrid says:

The bad kissing might come from the fact that a lot of A-list actresses have “No Tongue” policy. Clearly the case in here…

The best ones were Timothy Spall and Steve Carell. LOL.

      • lindy79 says:

Is this meant to be played for laughs?
Because all I have is confused a bit weirded out, and what the hell did i just watch?

      • Felice says:

Jeez, Reese. You had to be a party pooper with that policy.

      • Angie says:

@Ingrid Yes, actually most kiss scenes in Japanese movie don’t including any tongues… But the whole scene is weird, he looks rigid.

      • j says:

it was photoshoot a bunch of them did

Arquette/Schwartzman is the most awkward imo

      • Emily says:

        Eeewww.

      • MtnRunner says:

That Reese vid came up on my facebook feed and automatically started playing. I cringed and had to stop watching — it was so disturbing!

I wonder that if I hadn’t been so turned off by Bendy’s Oscar Engagement Shenanigans, I may have enjoyed it more. Ugh.

    • MissMary says:

      …I got nothin’.

      • lindy79 says:

I love that he pretty much pushed her into the bush

      • Lucifer says:

u dnt need tongue to kiss properly.. THAT WAS A BAD KISS..
does not matter how much we want to defend BC

      • Cate says:

@Lindy79, aw, can’t blame the guy, he just acted out his dream kiss with Sophie, ie. pushing her in the bush. Bush pushing is the new snogging!

      • An says:

I always figured he avoided doing a lot of love scenes for a reason, nothing wrong with that. I am easily embarrassed by stuff like that myself, mind you 🙂

      • MissMary says:

He’s done some pretty hot love scenes (ex: The Last Enemy) but… yeah. IDK if it was the premise or what but meh on the Reese pic. though I found the Laura Dern/Steve Carrell one adorable.

      • moodgirl says:

        What are y’all looking at?

Nevermind, I saw it on SoGo, they look awkward; in the middle of the kiss he looks like he is trying to eat her.

By the way, is this another way of screaming “I’m not gay?” Otherwise, it serves no purpose to me. Sorry.

      • moodgirl says:

@Cate – You gave me my laugh for the week.

      • An says:

I thought it was super terrible from the comments, but it’s not that bad. It looks a bit stiff because their mouths are closed but definitely not the worst one.

@moodgirl: They do these every year. A director pairs up a bunch of actors under a theme, which was romance this year. It’s usually exaggerated, and this director randomly picked names for pairings.

  53. Abby_J says:

Modern Family hasn’t been a good show in a few seasons. These awards shows need new material.

Not a single award for Sons of Anarchy? Seriously? What in the world does SAMCRO have to do to at least get Katy Segal a nomination? That is a snub of EPIC proportions, if you ask me.

  54. Ingrid says:

And while we are hijacking this thread with Cumberbatch news, did anyone listen to The Nerdist podcast? (It was lovely.)

Quite early on he tells a story from HFA which went like this:
    Felicity Jones: Congratulations!
    BC: For what?
    FC: … your engagement.

And then BC said on The Nerdist “I need to publicly apologize to Felicity”. Ummm… no. Surely you should apologize to your fiancee? The woman you love and the woman you proposed to? Idiot.

    • Felice says:

That honestly sealed it for me. He didn’t think that it was for the engagement, the supposed “best thing ever,” but for an award. Nice try, B.

    • lindy79 says:

      HAHAHAHA
why would you admit to that? He probably thought it was cute and funny but it doesn’t tie in with his “its the most important thing to me” narrative hes selling.

      • Gracie says:

He has the tendency to backlash himself? – not sure if that’s the right word. Like sometimes you’ve said something that doesn’t sound quite right once you gave it some thought but it’s harmless so probably best to just leave it. He doesn’t quite get the idea of bring what’s been said again sometimes make it a bigger deal than it needs to be. Like the story he told on the GN show, that he went back to apologise for using ‘stiff’, if he hadn’t, I’m sure people wouldn’t even remember it.

    • Ingrid says:

Speaking of the enGAGment, have you seen the new pic (SoGo) from The Hobbit premiere where poor Emily is carrying Queen Sodious’s bag because, of course, she’s a celebrity now and doesn’t carry her own stuff on the red carpet.

      *bangs head against a wall*

      • Soothy says:

I’m not 100% that’s not Emily’s bag. I’ve seen her with clutch bags before and maybe the red bag is just paperwork stuff? Dunno really. I don’t think SH had a bag at the last premieres, but who knows, certainly a possibility it’s hers.
Still rather perplexed that poor Emily is trailing behind like a servant instead of walking next to her. And blows my mind that anyone can say she’s shy or nervous of red carpets too..

      • Ingrid says:

I’m 99.9% sure it’s SH’s bag. Where’s her cell phone, keys, ID and make-up? Did she ate them? (LOL) And it doesn’t make sense for Emily to have two bags. She obviously coordinated her orange/red shoes and bag and the clutch matches SH’s outfit.

But I agree with E walking behind like a servant. And again, if SH wasn’t there to be photographed why isn’t she wearing a coat? She looks so ridiculous compared to other people in the photo.

        What a dreadful woman…

      • Felice says:

Emily has always been a semi-hero of mine.

      • lindy79 says:

Given that publisists/assistants tend to travel light, they’re there to assist, and ive often seen them on red carpets holding the stars stuff. I’m guessing its not Emily’s. Her bag is practical, over the shoulder and not in the way thus allowing her to do her job (and matches her shoes). Why would she carry a clutch without a strap in addition to that? Plus it matches Sophies dress.
Sophie aint a star though so should carry her own sodding bag. She works for Benedict, not Sophie.

Its actually these type pictures that annoy me more than anything else about this freakshow. You can tell a lot about a person about how they treat service industry/folks that work for them or people they feel do. She has shown zero respect for Karon or Emily (who is also his niece).

      • Soothy says:

It does make sense that the bag belongs to SH. The only thing that made me wonder really was the fact she didn’t seem to have one at the other premieres.
        But yeah… ugh.

      • MissMary says:

She may have had one at the other prems but either handed them off to coat check, Karon, or left them in the car. She was carrying her own at BIFA (that weird box clutch thing) so maybe Emily said “ain’t happening, figure out your own bag situation” this go ’round.

      • Soothy says:

If she did get Emily to carry her bag for her, then that’s despicable.

      • Ingrid says:

The reason publicists carry actors’ stuff during red carpets is because they need their hands to sign things, greet people, take photos and give interviews.

        In SH’s case… Ummm…

      • blended says:

so she basically waltzed down the red carpet (even though she didn’t even have to be there), while the lackie (who is supposed to be ‘family’) carried her small purse, so she could, what, put her hands in her pockets? wtf!

      • Lindy79 says:

Well she wasn’t able to hold her own umbrella at LFF either coming out of the hotel or getting out of the car and down the red carpet even though Ben and Keira both did and they’re the starts of the movie, hell Will and Kate did in NY and they’re royalty. She also got her own person whereas the rest of his family and friends went in a large group.
I really don’t want to dislike her for dislikes sake, as it just makes you look like some sad jealous fangirl but as I said above, you can tell a lot about a person by the level of respect they show to and how they treat others especially people that work for them. I am not impressed with the evidence so far.

*cue to Sophie at the next event laden down with bags and umbrellas*

  55. Miss M says:

No “whiplash” for best movie?? 🙁

  56. Lux says:

Wtf does the Good Wife have to do to get nominated in the main category! I’m so disappointed. But, yay for Julianna. I hope so wins.

  57. Maggie says:

Great news for The Imitation Game. Congratulations to Benedict, Keira and all the cast and congratulations again to Benedict for the Sherlock nomination.

  58. Maya says:

So all these people who are so happy for Jennifer to get a nomination instead of other women who truly deserves it – you are the same people who threw a hissyfit few weeks ago when it was mentioned Angelina might get a director nomination.

That Angelina is a celebrity, crap director and will only get nominated because of her fame. Well here we have Jennifer – not very talented, bribing people and only got nominated for her pr games. Well another good and talented actress lost out on nominations because of Jennifer.

What are you going to say now?

    • BlueeJay says:

These two women are both the same. Have you not figured that out yet? They both hustle, they both do not have amazing talent but are aggressive and work for what they want, they have both been married to Brad and use his name to boost their careers, they both love being in the tabloids and study and know what the tabloids are saying about them, they both call the paps to have their pictures taken at the “right times”. If you truly want to support women how about we just say that whoever gets nominated whether it be Angie or Jen they deserved it.

  59. Ruth Dunbar says:

Would it kill someone to nominate Hannibal for something? Anything?
