Hayden Panettiere screams at a TV reporter

I disliked Hayden Panettiere for a long time. I had absolutely no specific reason for it, it was just a gut feeling. Then she did a lot of cool and dangerous things for dolphins, and I decided to force myself to like her. I’m not going to kid you, the process wasn’t easy, but I was committed to it. And I think I got 75% there before Hayden blew it. And by “blew it,” I mean acted like a total bitch and freaked out on reporters.

Hayden Panettiere lost her cool at an event in Hawaii over the weekend.

The 19-year-old Heroes star — who recently split with Milo Ventimiglia because of her club-going ways — was testy when she first stepped on the red carpet at a fundraiser benefiting the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific Foundation Sunday in Honolulu.

“Back up!” she yelled at photographers.

After posing for photos, she brushed by reporters. A female television reporter touched her shoulder and asked, “May we talk with you, Hayden?” Miffed, the actress jerked her head around and screamed, “Don’t you ever touch me!” She then icily asked a red carpet handler, “Oh, am I supposed to do interviews?”

Approaching various media outlets, she snapped again: “You all make my life miserable” and refused to answer any questions.

After the red carpet, Panettiere hung out in a private cabana with Justin Long and his brother. She then moved to a private dining room, where she and Long sat across from one another, chatting for more than an hour.

[From Us Weekly]

Us Weekly titled this story, “Hayden Panettiere Shoves TV Reporter,” yet they never actually mentioned any shoving. So either they drastically exaggerated the headline or they completely forgot the most important – and dramatic – part of the story. Nonetheless, Hayden was clearly acting like a complete bitch. But I have to be fair – I certainly behaved like a spoiled snot on occasion at her age. I just didn’t have anyone reporting on it. So I’m not going to completely write her off as a totally flawed human being, because she might be better at dealing with frustration in a few years.

Though she has been linked to a lot of older men, so you’d think Hayden would have a bit of maturity by now.

Here’s Hayden at LAX today with “Days of Our Lives” star Darin Brooks, returning from Hawaii. She clearly is having a real problem with the paparazzi. Images thanks to Pacific Coast News.

Ha ha, wasn’t there a report here where some idiot spokesperson said that she’s “mature” and thus the reason why she hits on waaaay older guys? I think NOT. (the mature part anyway. That article hilariously put her in such a hypocritical light. The PR people say she’s “so mature,” but the age difference was the reason why her and Milo broke up in the first place.

Well, it’s sad. I just saw this on Lainey actually. There goes another one affected by fame. She’s going to be staying single for while, methinks.

Oh, and Hayden, you can mack on the Scottish God Gerry Butler all the hell you want, but he’s not going to go for you. He knows better than to go for a famewhore like you. (Personally I’m still rooting for a breakup with Jen and John and Jen going to Gerry). But if Justin and Jessica do break up, I wonder what Jessica and Gerry Butler would look like together?

    Nah, Jen and Gerry. 🙂

My old co-worker is an anchor in Hawaii. It’s not that large of a market… so in other words, a little “small-town newsish”. Hayden freaked out on a bunch of small-timers, trying to blame them for papparazzi actions. What a bitch. Papparazzi and local news are NOTHING alike.

  3. Annie says:

I’ve been a complete pain in the ass before.

But come on, their coverage of her is what boosts her ratings and paychecks.

And it was a red carpet event, not her trying to get some coffee.

Such a little twit. Mature my ass.

  4. Wench. says:

Oh, come on! She’s a teenage girl who’s just come out of a long relationship. Give the girl a break.

  5. becca says:

Wench: millions of teenage girls get out of long-term relationships and have to go on with their lives. Do they get breaks? From close friends and family, sure. But not the majority of the world. No, let’s not give her a break.

  6. vale says:

No, hell no, no break. Sorry. It was a work thing she was attending, in HAWAII for hell’s sake, it wasn’t a vacation but could you get your head out of your ass for the 10 minutes of red carpet and press and then enjoy the rest of your comped stay in paradise without trying to be *too* miserable. I was a big snot at that age too, but I knew the basics of common decency. for WORK.

  7. janey says:

Did she always look like a horse?

  8. Marina says:

you need to chill out paparazi needs to give stars and famous people a break their people just like us they want to live normal lives everyone has their moments ok? and when yo have a melt down a couple people know about it but when stars do the whole planet knows so just give her a break

  9. Sue D. Nimm says:

Marina: maybe if they were hounding her when she was trying to avoid them at home she could ask them politely (that’s the important word) to leave her alone. Not at a red carpet event.

  10. Kate says:

I can’t write her off completely because reporters do sometimes do some screwed up things to famous people, but local news and papparazzi are two very different things, and it was really rude of her to be such a bitch to a couple of small time reporters who were probably just excited to see her.

  11. Baholicious says:

    Who?

  12. becca says:

@ Baho: Do you watch Heroes? She’s the indestructable cheerleader. Milo is from the show as well.

I’m rather curious, when they were dating, did the directors film less scenes together, like Dom and Evie in LOST? I don’t watch Heroes, so I wouldn’t know.

  13. Baholicious says:

I know who she is becca – that was the point 😉

  14. Wench. says:

Becca: Yep. And millions of those girls use it as an excuse. They get days off. Sympathy. A Grades. So fucking what, she had a bit of teen angst – better than being bubblegum boring.

  15. nanster says:

She looks seriously pissed off in all of the pictures – I have never seen her look that way before. My guess is that something else set her off, but that’s no excuse to treat people the way she did.

  16. Jenni says:

I’d be pissed off too if I’d lost the gorgeous Milo!

  17. Jenni says:

I’d be pissed off too if I’d lost the gorgeous Milo!!!

  18. viper says:

Wow her face morphs. She def puts on moutains of make up to look the way she does. I like her this way though, it’s HER.

  19. nolongerhaydenfan says:

i used to be a big fan, now all i here about is that shes a total b*tch… i agree celebitchy, before i found out about the whole dolphin thing i had a gut feeling that she was a b*tch, then i became a big fan, and now i dont like her. its such a shame…i thought for once a girl who had great looks where she COULD get away with being a diva DIDN’T abuse that and used her fame for good…but turns out shes an ice queen…

  20. Jaclyn says:

And where is the video of this? I wanna see it!

  21. teehee says:

Standing your ground and telling somebody to back up when too close doesnt come across as bitchy to me at all. If she doesnt like the hollywood lifestyle then maybe she’ll eventually stand-her-grounds right out of it– but hey that would be better for her!

  22. becca says:

Baho: LOL, sometimes you can’t tell on the internet. I’m usually really good at finding the sarcasm, but ya got me this time. 😉

  23. Feebee says:

Someone needs to take Ms P down a couple of pegs. According to reports she was there to attend a hotel opening (free trip?), went to another charity thing and got all snarky with reporters.

Baho’s right, WHO?? As is who the hell is this little twerp. Hopefully her star will have fallen low enough to make the next season of Dancing with the Stars. (Okay that’s not fair to all the contestants on the show….)

  24. Mairead says:

A teenage girl being bitchy? OMXenu, hold the front page. While I agree that she handled this really badly, she is very very tiny and a bank cameras, microphones and people shouting questions and then a complete stranger grabbing/touching her shoulder would rattle anyone’s cage.

  25. Lina says:

“Approaching various media outlets, she snapped again: ‘You all make my life miserable’ and refused to answer any questions.”

How about they all made her famous therefore rich?

  26. Aspen says:

    She’s nineteen years old.

And the media did NOT make her famous. Disney did.

She has been thrust into mature situations and USED by a man who should’ve known better. Any 19 year-old girl on the planet would likely BELIEVE herself equal to a 30+ year-old man. Anyone over 25, however, knows that none of them actually are.

19 is adult enough to get out there and start feeling around the world to find out what kind of grownup you’re going to be.

She didn’t hit anyone. She didn’t go on a four-minute screaming, cursing rant. She lost control of her very immature emotional composure for a moment and snapped at a reporter who put hands on her.

How, exactly, does that make her a bitch?

  27. Aspen says:

If you have flocks of people following you wherever you go…and you get used to that and develop a mental pattern of dealing with them…and you get used to the rules of engagement with said flock of camera-wielding folks…

wouldn’t you snap, too, if one of them broke the rules?

I mean, you KNOW these celebs would all love to take a whack at these people sometimes. But they usually don’t. They follow the rules.

Like a stripper in a night club, they are fine with you and play along and do what they’re paid to do until you break the rules…and then you’re going to get thrown out on your ass.

Same thing here. This woman put hands on Hayden when she was already obviously flustered by a pack of reporters who were too close to her and preventing her from being able to walk or move or preserve her personal space.

Again…I don’t see “bitch” anywhere in that story…except for the woman who put her hands on a stranger’s body without permission.

  28. Aspen says:

“Local” reporters know not to put their hands on interview subjects just as well as the high-falootin’ ones from New York and L.A.

  29. Wench. says:

Aspen: Totally agree and second that sentiment.

    Hayden is a pretty girl.
    But Milo must have issues.

  30. Melanie says:

I’m not defending her because I like her or anything. As a matter of fact, I’ve always had a mild distate for her but I can see where she is coming from. It must be really stressful to constantly have people flashing lights in your face and/or touching you like you don’t deserve a little personal space.

  31. Sarah says:

I agree with whoever said there’s a difference between local news and paparazzi. “You all make my life miserable.” ?? You’re walking a RED CARPET. Go in the back entrance if you don’t want attention.

  32. RAN says:

I agree with Aspen 100% – the media stalking did not make her famous… Disney and Heroes did.

For any one of you who have criticized her minor little meltdown, look internally at yourself. There has been at least one time in each of your lives where you’ve just had enough and let whomever was bugging you have it.

    She’s 19 – Give her a break.

  33. daisyfly says:

The anchor that supposedly did this is probably one of the more down-to-earth reporters here in Hawai’i who was simply doing her job while Hayden wasn’t. The anchor brushed it off and moved on but Hayden just kept complaining.

I don’t care if she’s 19 or 90. There’s no reason to be so rude, especially when it’s obligatory to give interviews.

  34. Tony says:

Never liked her and still don’t. The incident had no impact in my eyes one way or another.

I never understood the almost rabid following this celebrity generates. To a lot of people she’s so overly average, her fame really is something of a mystery.

They say there is no accounting for taste, Hayden should be a poster child for that saying.

Like the blogger, I have tried hard to find something about her I like. But unlike the blogger, I just can’t come close to 75% there.

  35. Rennolds says:

Oh God, those reporters do suck the crap out of her. Poor girl.
