Katherine Heigl in Zac Posen at the Globes: incredible or too plain?

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals
One of my favorite looks last night was presenter Katherine Heigl’s navy blue formfitting Zac Posen gown. So Posen redeemed himself after the fug dress he made for his childhood friend, Lena Dunham. I prefer very classic, simple styles and this was just to my taste. I love the inverted v detailing at both the waist and midway down the skirt where it flares into a train. The look may have been a bit cookie cutter but I thought she was so pretty, especially with her loose curls and styling. On the red carpet with Giuliana Rancic, Heigl made the blunder of saying that Posen knows how to dress her “fuller figure,” which of course is incredibly relative in Hollywood. She’s in no way fuller, which Giuliana called her out on. I think she’s referring to “fuller” vs. sample sizes or whatever size Giuliana is.

Heigl had on blue drop earrings a statement ring and some simple bracelets. I like that her jewelry was understated and that she didn’t overwhelm the look with a large necklace.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus also wore a deceptively simple but gorgeous gown. She was in a white Narciso Rodriguez one shoulder dress that featured very light beading across the bodice and a silky, flowing skirt. She accessorized with drop earrings and a large stone ring and wore her hair loose and long. So many great choices added up to a beautiful look.

Louis-Dreyfus was up for Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy, which went to Gina Rodriguez.

Also in white we have Emily Blunt in Michael Kors with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. She was nominated for Into The Woods for Best Actress In A Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy, which went to Amy Adams. In still photos I don’t appreciate the dress and styling as much as I did on camera. She was going for a kind of Grecian look which I found unique and pretty. I especially liked her braided updo.

KH has been dieting, amirite? Bet she didn’t eat solid food for at least 2 weeks before this event. I think she looks good but wow– the weight loss is not minor.

      KHeigel look great.
      Julia Louis Dreyfus looks fabulous

Emily Blunt is stunning , so beautiful. I like the top of her dress much better than Rosamund’s even though both ladies look glowing.

      THIS.

She looks like her body shrunk in the wash and is now two sizes too small for her head. What HAPPENED to her? She used to have an incredible figure – the perfect combo of slim and curvy. And now her hips are gone. It actually scared me, and I don’t know why no one else seems to notice.

  2. Jayna says:

That gown was incredible on Katherine Heigl.

    • Josephine says:

I agree, and she’s someone who rarely gets it right. She looked great.

But Julia’s dress was even better IMHO. She looks great in white and the style was so classic, flattering, and beautiful!

    • Kitten says:

Yup. Best I’ve ever seen her look. Hair and makeup were perfect too.

    • Anony says:

I loved it too! My mother-in-law thinks it should have showed slightly less boob though and be cut just slightly higher LOL.

Katherine’s was one of my favorite looks. Julia looks nice but I’m not wowed in anyway.

  3. tifzlan says:

I love Heigl’s dress but i’m biased because my favorite color in all the land is navy blue.

Pick of the post would be Emily Blunt. She looks so regal and i prefer her styling to Heigl’s.

GINA RODRIGUEZ!!! I’M STILL ELATED ABOUT HER WIN!!!

    • Amelia says:

Completely agree about Emily Blunt – unique enough to be interesting but still understated and elegant. Her make-up kicks butt.
I actually quite like Heigl’s look – simple and classic, not too showy as she tries to work her way back into the higher echelons.

  4. Judyk says:

    LOVE Katherine Heigl’s gown…WOW!!!

  5. Lucy says:

The three of them looked fantastic, even Heigl! And Julia always kills it on the red carpet.

  6. GiGi says:

Katherine Heigl’s dress seemed overly tight to me and I wear more makeup to yoga than she wore to the Globes… IDK. Maybe she was going for a “fresh” look, but it looked more like she was trying the dress on than like she was walking the red carpet.

Julia L-D looked great – but I think she rarely gets it wrong. Safe, but lovely.

Emily Blunt – I wanted to like it? Something was off. On screen, her eye makeup looked too heavy & pulled her face down. In these pics, it’s not so bad, not sure what was going on there.

  7. Janet says:

Blunt and Louis-Dreyfus looked good. Heigl, meh….

  8. Grace says:

Julia Louis Dreyfus always looks flawless at these award shows including last night. Make up, accessories, dress were perfect. Heigl was a little plain for my taste. The dress was gorgeous but her hair was too prom looking and she needed better accessories.

  9. Tpaz says:

JLD always looks incredible. Better than most 20 and 30 year olds that she has to compete with.

  10. Hautie says:

If anything, Katherine Heigl has always been one of the better dressed ladies, on the red carpet.

Being tall with boobs and having a curvy shape… will flatter a dress. Sadly, you are correct… in the fact she is consider a big girl. But only in LA.

Anywhere else… Heigl would be consider rather slim. With a good figure.

Too bad she refuses to correct the errors in her career decisions. One having no filter. And two… having a Mother/Manager without a filter. Maybe she will eventually decide that needing to have a healthy bank account, will win out. And she will hire some legit career managers. She has less than a decade to get that money! Everyone knows women get put out to pasture at 40 in LA.

    • Senaber says:

KH definitely needs something. Her presentation was painful to watch. She looked embarrassed to be up there.

  11. Samtha says:

All three of them looked lovely. That’s the youngest Heigl has looked in a while, too. She usually looks like her mom.

  12. Foxi loo says:

Emily Blunt and Kate Beckinsale were my favourites, they were both absolutely exquisite.

  13. boredblond says:

Know there are heigl haters here but I think she looks terrific..Loved Emily B’s earrings, but somehow the dress seemed to chop her up oddly..hmm

  14. smee says:

Emily Blunt looks incredible. Rosamund Pike looked like she wore the same dress and it slid down.

  15. Lucy2 says:

I like all three here. Heigl’s is pretty and flattering. JLD always keeps it simple and elegant, and Emilys had a nice, clean modern look to it.

  16. Lila says:

La Heigl actually looks good in that blue gown. It suits her. Emily and Julia also look lovely in their respective dresses.

  17. scout says:

She has a beautiful, kind face, love her and the color of the dress. White gowns are both look great. I always feel that Emily Blunt is arrogant whenever I see her pics, don’t know why!

  18. vauvert says:

Loved Emily’s makeup and jewelry, that bracelet and the earrings, wow! Hated the dress and the hair. I guess the bodice killed it for me, just don’t like those mummy bandage style things:-)
Heigl… I liked and I didn’t. I think her hair looked great, and her understated makeup was good too, but I thought the dress was too tight, she looks like she has to lean forward to breathe, and the top was a smidgen too low. Lovely colour though.
Apparently I am in the minority here about JLD. I did not like the hair, and I think the raccoon eyes were not flattering. Nice dress though, much better in close ups. And her figure is lovely!

  19. Ginger says:

Oooooo….I LOVE and adore that blue gown! Katherine looks fantastic. She must have been joking about the “fuller figure” comment because come on, she looks fit. Julia’s dress is awesome and I like her styling. Emily always looks gorgeous to me but I like that her gown is different than the usual red carpet stuff. I would like to have seen that dress in motion but alas we have had no cable TV for the past four months. We are getting cable again today so I won’t miss the Independent Spirit awards or the Oscars (or Downton Abbey). Yay!

  20. MrsBPitt says:

Maybe KH meant she had a fuller figure standing next to Giuliana, the skeleton, Rancic!

  21. smcollins says:

All 3 women looked gorgeous! I would kill for Emily Blunt’s skin. Flawless!

  22. Diana B says:

I loved Heigl’s dress, I thought is was gorgeous. I think it would have looked better on a brunette but I just love that navy blue. Julia was really pretty aswell, she never misses.

  23. Marianne says:

Emily looked so beautiful and definitely makes my top 10 list. I even loved her hair and the earrings that really complimented the whole look.

Katherine’s dress was nice, but boring. But I really liked her hair styled like that.

    Julia was ok.

  24. SamiHami says:

Heigl looks great. JLD always looks fantastic…she really knows what flatters her the most. Blunt just looked silly with that criss-cross nonsense of a bodice and those tacky earrings. She could have done so much better.

  25. Isabelle says:

Jld becomes more gorgeous & classy with age. Heigel looks great as well.

  26. GingerCrunch says:

Anything in navy blue, any day, anywhere! Not digging the all the white. Bores me. Although I did like Kristin Wiig’s dress, so go figure!

  27. phlyfiremama says:

She finally…didn’t look like her mom. Good going, KH!!!
