Chris Hemsworth to the paparazzi: ‘You’re not a bonus to my career’

hemsworth1

This isn’t a repeat, I swear. I checked! Chris Hemsworth covered the January issue of GQ (USA) and now he’s on the February cover of GQ Australia. I don’t think the photoshoot is a repeat either, I just think Hemsworth looks the same in nearly every photoshoot, especially when the shoots are probably only weeks apart. So, this is Hemsworth’s February GQ Australia cover. Nice. Not really eventful. Much like the American version. As for the interviews… well, Chris shows some personality and some bitchiness when he’s talking to a hometown press outlet. He’s not giving bland quotes about Matt Damon. This time, he’s complaining about the paparazzi and throwing shade at all of those Hollywood producers and directors who didn’t give a crap about him before Thor, before Rush. Huh.

Stardom didn’t fix his internal issues: “You get to Hollywood, you achieve something and then you realize, ‘S–t, it didn’t actually bring me the happiness I thought it was going to. It didn’t fix anything. Look, I mean I don’t wake up, look in the mirror and go, ‘Yep, all is perfect.'”

He thinks ‘Rush’ was his real big break, not Thor: “Everything shifted for me after Rush. It wasn’t as financially successful as other things I’d done, but it gave me more movement, more options, more doors opening, more meetings. All of a sudden, it’s, ‘Oh, wow! You’re an actor!'”

The superficiality of Hollywood: “It’s bulls–t. I remember how differently people treated me when things went well. Some directors and producers who never gave a s–t—at best, they’d have given me a sideways glance. Next time I saw them, they’re my best friend. That’s gross.” He reveals that he “got more calls and emails” about succeeding Adam Levine as People’s “Sexiest Man Alive” than ever received “about any film” he’s done.

The paparazzi: “When I’m with my kids, and someone is scaring my kids—which is what they’ll do—that gets me fired up. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I get hot. I get flustered. And in the States, they’re there, 24/7, at the gate, six feet away when you take out the rubbish.”

He doesn’t want to complain: “But at the same time, ‘Get f–ked!’ Nah, mate, you don’t have the right to do that. I don’t give a f–k what anyone says—you’re not a bonus to my career.”

Why he moved back to Australia: “You start to think of it as the norm, that this is how people are—and that’s the danger. If this is life, I’m not raising my kids like this.”

[From E! News]

For his comments about the paparazzi… I’ll say what I always say when he bitches about the paps: talk to your wife about that. Elsa made their family into the paparazzi target that they became. Elsa was out there, every day, hustling for Thor and The Avengers, then she dialed it down for Thor: The Dark World. Elsa was the one selling Chris as this nice, decent family man with a baby. And it worked. That’s his image now: happily married family man. And yes, the paparazzi had a lot to do with that. With Elsa’s help.

But what really bugs me is this quote: “I remember how differently people treated me when things went well. Some directors and producers who never gave a s–t—at best, they’d have given me a sideways glance. Next time I saw them, they’re my best friend.” Um, maybe I’m the most jaded person in the world, but why is he whining about this? You’re only as good as your last success or failure. That’s true in Hollywood. That’s true in the business world. That’s true in publishing. That’s true in many, many industries. Why is Chris Hemsworth such a delicate flower? Why is he looking to those directors and producers for validation? And here’s another thought: why SHOULD those directors and producers take him seriously after he’s only proven he can carry a film if Marvel is involved? Who would have thought that Hollywood power players would be *GASP* superficial and dog-eat-dog?

Love ya Hems, but you should talk to your wife about that whole pap thing.

    • V4Real says:

@ Invader I’m invading your post to say I was thinking the exact same thing. I’m pretty sure the paps have the same thoughts as well. Tell your wife Ramora to stop alerting us to your whereabouts.

I adore Chris and thinks he’s a very good looking man but damn that sexy man thing a ma jiggy has gone to his head a bit.

  2. Greata says:

Honey, you’re cute and all…but stop bitchin and take some acting lessons…oh and at the same time try and find some humility.

    • Charlotte says:

I think he’s probably trying to push for us Aussie audience that he wasn’t changed by the hype. Knocking the pappz so that we know he hasn’t adopted a Hollywood head.
After what happened with … Her name pops out of my head, but Angel from home and away (and I swear that’s not deliberate even though she’d hate that I don’t know her name and refer to her time on H&A) he’s trying to oversell the idea that he’s still Aussie no-nonsense.

      • CM says:

What did happen with Angel from H&A?? What did I miss?!

      • CM says:

Melissa George, right? Name just popped into my head!

      • Charlotte says:

She got asked about H&A one time too many for her liking (funny, how Australia likes to remind people how they’re Australian. It’s one if the most endearing in a “mum, you’re embarrassing me!” way traits that Australia has IMO) and went on a rant about how she’s so much better than that now (paraphrasing) and how her French bulldog in NY or strolling along Paris makes her better than us saddos who still live in Australia and won’t let her forget her past. It was off. I mean, I get that she’s tired of it, but it’s done with love and pride. Australia still wanted to claim her. Well, not anymore, sweetheart. Now you’ve got hardly anybody to support your brilliant new career.

      • Greata says:

@Charlotte…He should take some notes from Hugh Jackman…wait Jackman actually has talent…never mind.

      • Charlotte says:

Jackman is a species unto himself.

I’ve not seen any Hemsworth in anything. I only know him from here, and remember him because as I’ve mentioned before, he has more than a passing resemblance to my (gay) brother.

      • pleaseicu says:

I do have to give him credit. He’s never lost his Aussie roots. He’s also never trashed Home and Away like Isla and, especially, Melissa have over the years.
He even went back and spent the day on the Home and Away set back in October or November 2014 and is apparently going to appear as a background extra in a scene in an upcoming episode.

I can’t imagine many other celebs going back to the soap that gave them their start to hang out for a day and then do a wink, wink appearance as an extra.

    • Mark says:

He doesn’t want people outside his taking pictures of his kids, how is he arrogant?

  3. Abbott says:

He kinda looks like Ryan Reynolds swallowed LeAnn Rimes.

  4. bette says:

Don’t understand the appeal of either Hemsworth and why Hollywood continues to promote these brothers in stinker after stinker.

Saw a trailer for “In the Heart of the Sea” a new movie by Ron Howard, and Chris Hemsworth stinks up the trailer. He is not believable in it, and I wish they would find someone new, or give it to someone else. Otherwise, it looked like a great movie.

I wonder if Ron Howard made him audition? I heard an interview by an actor who had a part in “American Sniper”, and he detailed how Eastwood makes everyone audition no matter how small the part.

    • OriginalTessa says:

They’re really really ridiculously good looking…

    • Nayru says:

I agree. I saw him in some trailor where he is supposed to be some brilliant hacker or some unbelievable bs. I turned to my sister and said they should have cast someone other than Thor.

      • **sighs** says:

Haha! I saw that trailer too, and turned to my friend and said no way that any hacker looks like that or is that well trained in combat. So unbelievable.

      • Josefa says:

Wise words by the goddess of wisdom, Nayru. (Zelda fangirl over here!)

They should’ve cast someone like Andrew Garfield.

      • Lexie says:

Yup. That movie “Blackhat” just came out… and it’s a HUGE bomb.

It’s becoming very, very clear to Hollywood that Hemsworth cannot carry a movie. The Thor movies do well because they are Marvel movies – no one really goes for Hemsworth.

His leading man career will be over in a year or two, after so many failures (Rush, Blackhat, Red Dawn).

    • Yeah when I went to go see “Unbroken” again–I saw the trailer. I thought it was a rip off of Moby Dick, and that it looked boring as hell. Seriously–those kinds of movies are always AWFUL. Just awful.

And the BlackHat movie looked “meh” with a side of “generic” because it looks like they’re trying to make a hacker into an action star. One or the other dude.

      • ican'tsnap says:

That’s because it’s based on true events that were part of the inspiration for Melville’s Moby Dick!

But yes, the Hemsworth hype is, well, just a lot of hype… the guy is not a great actor AND he can’t open a movie. There’s no there there.

  5. pretty says:

his movie ‘Blackhat’ (Release Date: January 16, 2015, Budget: $70 million) has bombed so hard.

    • Abbott says:

He can use all that Thor money to wipe his tears.

    • Mia4S says:

$4 million for the whole weekend?! And it did crap overseas. That’s not a bomb that’s a complete disaster! Chris dear there’s a reason the calls and emails came after Sexiest Man Alive. You don’t have much else going right now. Get a grip!

    • Precious says:

The most shocking flop of a star-driven film with a notable director and star since “Transcendence”….. due maybe to the worst marketing for a subject matter that had a pulse, but then again , Paddington’s (with a US$25.2M debut) marketing was also pretty awful.

Anyway, none of these superhero actors are draws when they take the tights off. Even superstar Downey couldn’t get The Judge higher than 5th place on its opening weekend. Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy both had flops as leads post X-Men.

      • aquarius64 says:

Thank you! I’m calling this the Marvel curse. You’ll get fame and recognition for being in the MCU, but the drawback is no one wants to see you if you’re not in the iron suit, waving the hammer, etc. Scarlett Johannsen’s “Lucy” was successful because in that movie she was basically the blond Black Widow.

  6. Loopy says:

Exactly why would most people in any Industry fall over their feet for you before you have proven yourself???

  7. scout says:

    Welcome to Hollywood, Thor!!
His Blackhat movie bombed. Better be nice to Paps, Blogs and press, they ARE bonus most of the time if you want your films to do well commercially. Handsome face and great acting talent only can get you so far. Learn from Hollywood veterans like GC, Brangelina and Jen Aniston.

    • Sara says:

      Great acting talent? Hahahahaha!

    • MtnRunner says:

CHemboy won’t be able shake the typecasting and I fear he doesn’t have a long career once Marvel’s done with him. He just doesn’t have the range that say, his brother Loki has. Better be nice to those keeping you in the news and promoting your projects.

      • aquarius64 says:

Hiddleston still has to prove he can open a non-Marvel movie at #1 just like everyone else in the MCU.

      • MtnRunner says:

My point was that Hiddles is getting a wider range of projects to sink his teeth in to and outside of Marvel has already shown range in the past 10 years. He’s a way better actor than CHemboy. Tom hasn’t headlined a flop either. Also, he doesn’t have to open a movie at #1 to have longevity, he just needs to make money for the studio.

Tom’s got four interesting projects coming to roost in the next year and it will be interesting to see where he stands at that point. Time will tell. I don’t think he’ll suffer from the Marvel curse that Hems and Evans will in the long run.

  8. Luca76 says:

As soon as he isn’t in a Marvel flick he bombs he is good looking but so forgettable. No charisma no sex appeal. He’s Ryan Reynolds Jr. I won’t be surprised to see him in a CSI show in a few years.

  9. original kay says:

I do love when these flash in the pans bite the hand that feeds them.

  10. aquarius64 says:

Chris needs to talk to Elsa; she’s the reason the family is on the paps’ radar. It’s probably why she hasn’t been out with him lately.

  11. Talie says:

He should be lucky anyone cares, he has the personality of burnt toast.

  12. Nayru says:

I can understand and empathize with his feelings. I am a scientist and also hate the what have you done for me lately treatment. It’s not always in control if my experiments work or not. I dislike the constant hustle. I can see how he might feel that way too. Sometime movies bomb. He wants to be appreciated for his acting talent not hid many people wanted to get with Thor

    • Mewsie says:

Well we all want to be appreciated and treated kindly, but that’s unfortunately not how the world works. Everyone, even celebrities, is told that they are replaceable and unimportant because capitalism thrives on people being insecure and needy, not happy and free.

That being said, I am a writer and I know I am good and I would love to be bought and read by entire nations, like EL James and Stephenie Meyer. But no one gives a fuck about my writing because no huge marketing machine picked it up to make it into a movie trilogy. I know I deserve success—at least because I don’t promote abuse to naive women by calling it BDSM and “hot”, like EL James did and I can string two sentences together without writing “oh my” after each word.

And while all this allows me to empathize with Chris in his wish to be liked as an actor, I can still see that he is never excited about his work and he never seems grateful (others have also remarked this in this article’s comments). That annoys people more than anything else. Everyone else in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is super stoked to be part of the movies, only Chris is bored and like “I’m in the movie and there’s stuff, can I go home to my kids now?” RDJ has kids too, a newborn as well, and he’s never dismissive of fans. Tom Hiddleston has his stack of flaws and questionable gestures too, but he always points out how exciting every project he does is for him.

      • 'P'enny says:

did you just say Tom Hiddleston has a ‘stack of flaws!’ FLAWS!!! FLAWWWS!

        He’s perfect…

        :-p

      • anon says:

I also want to know what Hiddleston’s flaws are, lol. I personally thought Loki was the best thing in Thor movies and that was before I knew anything about Tom Hiddleston.

      • InvaderTak says:

Questionable gestures? What does that mean? Did he give someone the bird or something?

      • MtnRunner says:

Did someone say Tom? PuddleTom? Tommyanna?

He may be a try-hard at times, but he shills for Marvel like his life depends on it. I’d much rather watch someone be overly enthusiastic about his projects then act above it all or gripe about the downsides of success.

He IS the reason I watched Thor and TDW. Loki makes that whole boring family entertaining.

      • Mewsie says:

Hey, I was talking strictly from my point of view. 🙂
I find Tom is a great, great actor and he is electrifying as a presence, both in character and as himself.

        But…
Recently he donated sport shoes for a charity (Chris and other stars donated their shoes too) and the shoes he chose were leather Jimmy Choos. And it just felt like he was saying ” Save the children, but fuck the animals!”

He also did that “Live Below the Line” challenge a while ago and, as a person who was born malnourished and has starved for the first six years of her life, I felt ridiculed and like my life was made into a Daily Mail headline. It was one of those “poverty pr0n” things that rich people engage in for the “experience”. Eating for 1 pound a day is not empathizing with someone who’s had to eat dead rats to survive. And I was really bummed that Tom took part in that challenge.

Tom means well and I know that, but he is sometimes not getting the best advice from his staff.

I am not an environmental fanatic, I just think that celebrities should not support and encourage the obscene exploitation of animals. They of all people have the actual freedom to make more decent choices. And the power to promote change.

But Chris supports horse racing, which put him on my sh*tlist for good.

And I see nothing heroic in going out at sea, killing whales and then getting all butthurt if one fights back.

I just hoped that these two would be more responsible and caring.

  13. TX says:

I understand that the paparazzi are awful, but it’s part of the celebrity ecosystem. Celebs need the paparazzi whether they admit it or not. Also, if you don’t like them, don’t live in LA. At this point in his career Chris can live wherever he wants.

    • InvaderTak says:

To be fair, I think I read he is selling his LA home and moving back to Oz. So he did do something, but I thought Australia was worse? Maybe it’s just in some places?

    • Algernon says:

To be fair, he has moved out of LA. A big part of that interview was discussing his move back to Australia, and he specifically says because of the paparazzi, etc.

    • ican'tsnap says:

Dude, it’s right there in the post:

“Why he moved back to Australia: “You start to think of it as the norm, that this is how people are—and that’s the danger. If this is life, I’m not raising my kids like this.”

  14. maeliz says:

Didn’t he know what Hollywood was? Boo hoo because his career and life there didn’t end up perfect is pretty sad. When I hear celebrities complain about the paparazzi, I agree it must be really annoying, but they can’t say they didn’t know there was a such thing as the crazy people with cameras

  15. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I do think that he was right about one thing. If you go into anything – career, marriage, whatever because you think that it will change you into “happy,” you will be disappointed. Happiness comes from inside, not out. Being successful won’t make you happy. Doing what you love will. Maybe he doesn’t especially love acting.

    • Algernon says:

“Maybe he doesn’t especially love acting. ”

I have wondered that, too. This guy has worked with some really good directors over the last few years (Blackhat sucked, but from an actor’s standpoint, working with Michael Mann has to be the bomb), but his level of enthusiasm never seems to change, no matter what he’s promoting. Chris Evans is a neurotic disaster who hates being famous, but when he’s promoting something he’s really proud of, you can tell. He makes you feel that enthusiasm. I have never felt that Chris Hemsworth is excited about anything that he does, and he has gotten some huge breaks. Surely he’s passionate about at least one of his projects?

      • Mewsie says:

He really doesn’t look like he enjoys acting and he doesn’t act like he likes his job. Almost all of his interviews are about him complaining about some aspect of fame.

I understand that he likes having kids, but most people have kids and that doesn’t mean “It’s OK to half-ass your work now!” for them.

He also doesn’t HAVE TO be an actor. He has enough money to last him and his family for several lifetimes from now.

I can relate to one thing he said though: if I could move back home and work from there, it would indeed be heaven. And I don’t even have kids, it would just be nice to not live in a huge city, but still be in demand and well paid. And that is where Chris has the privilege of choice that the rest of us don’t. Maybe he shouldn’t be so irritable about the attention he is getting.

  16. koko says:

This is exactly why “blondes” get a bad rap. Think honey before you speak.

  17. Cindy says:

I’m missing something. What did his wife do to encourage paparazzi? And if he doesn’t like that kind of attention, wouldn’t he be furious with HER for doing that?

  18. Jayna says:

This makes me like George Clooney so much more. He understood the business end of becoming successful and didn’t whine, just made observations, as he climbed the way to the top, admitting his weaknesses, what you had to do to make up for them, on and on, the relationships you forge in the business to capitalize on momentum and use for other projects.

Chris just seems too whiny sometimes and never that interesting. I do feel for him having paps right outside your house. It feels like there should be a law about that.

    • Mewsie says:

It’s not illegal to photograph public people outside their homes or the facades of said homes. But in order to know where famous people live, someone has to say ” hey guys, I moved on X street, number xz!” or someone else close to them has to go to the press.

Chris’ wife is the one who kept the press up to date more than necessary in some cases. And also the one who kept posting pictures from inside their home. So either Chris is in fact very in favour of the publicity and just tries to act like it’s unwanted, or his wife and him have different agendas.

I am not even blaming her anymore. She did manage to promote Chris to superstardom and she reaps the benefits too. Win-win on all fronts.

      • Jayna says:

I see stars’ homes on that Google satellite thing, Virtual Globetrotting, etc. I feel like a stalker and invasive when I’ve googled a star or singer’s home on the aerial maps online, but it’s out there for everyone to see as far as famous people now and where they live and home. LOL I swear I’ve only done it like four times because I was curious about the size of the estate. It’s in the U.S., England, etc. No one has to alert the paps to where they live. It’s public information.

      • Mewsie says:

Yeah, but you don’t get to see what colour their sieve or cake platter is from Google apps. 😛

Being on Tumblr, I’ve seen pics from inside Chris and Elsa’s home even without searching for them. Who posted those? The Holy Ghost? 😛

It’s just… if you want to be private, then stay private. Or am I supposed to believe that the paparazzi shop at the same shops as the stars and “casually” meet in the parking lot and “casually” happen to have their telephoto lens with them?

        🙂

  19. anon says:

Hemsworth brothers are incredibly good-looking but they can’t act. That is the real problem. Paparazzi are vultures, I agree. But Chris needs to worry more about his career going down the drain. At least he got these 50 million for doing Thor movies. There is more to life than Hollywood. Cheer up. ))

    • Mewsie says:

Neither Hemsworth is going down so soon. They have unbelievably good looks and that is Hollywood gold.

I am not sure why everyone seems to foresee an epic collapse for Chris’ career.

OK Blackhat sucked, but that’s not just Chris’ fault. And he has 3 more movies out this year. One of them is a comedy (Vacation), one of them is a Marvel MASSIVE blockbuster (Avengers 2: Age of Ultron) and, because Ron Howard is a sly fox, “In the Heart of the Sea” comes out at the end of the year. People will still have sky high boners for Chris from the Avengers effect and they will flock to see him eat people and be angry at a fish. I see an Oscar for that last role of this year, and I am not factoring in talent or the Film Academy being lucid. It’s how the business rolls.

If Chris could only keep his delicious lips closed until the next year’s Oscars, he will get one. Unless he decides to piss against the wind and upsets the people who made him get this big.

      • anon says:

I find him boring and unintresting, despite his good looks. He lacks charisma and depth. But that is just me. If he can prove he can deliver on those 50 million + movies, he’ll have no problems. Only time will tell.

      • Jessica says:

They’re attractive, but not uniquely attractive. There’s no shortage of handsome blond guys with good bodies in Hollywood. Plus neither have faces that are going to get better with age so they’ve already hit their attractiveness peak.

Neither have much acting talent or range, and they both lack personality. Neither can carry a film, and neither have appeared in a single film where they weren’t massively out-shined by the other actors. Hell, there were scenes in Rush where I found my attention drifting towards a stationary race-car and away from Hemsworth. I don’t even like cars!

I expect both will carry on working steadily for a decade or two, but forsee a future of by the numbers action roles for both, with the odd Nicholas Sparks knock-off thrown in. They really aren’t future Oscar winners.

    • MtnRunner says:

I respectfully disagree, Mewsie. Good looking men are a dime a dozen in Hollywood and unless Chris can prove he can put butts in seats in a non-Marvel movie and shown the range to carry different types of movies, his longevity is under serious threat.

Even in the Thor movies, Loki is as big a draw as Thor (if not bigger — i.e. 2013 Comic Con appearance), due to being a more interesting character. Chris really needs to show humble gratitude for the big paychecks he’s gotten and invest them wisely, because he could be yesterday’s news in a few years, if luck isn’t on his side.

      • Mewsie says:

We actually agree. I said that Chris might get an Oscar as a bitter remark. I think it’s unfair to many other more talented actors with better attitudes that they are denied opportunities because Hollywood is Chris Hemsworth’s playground now.

If things were really judged on talent alone, Hiddles should be buying more houses to store all his Oscars by now.

But I am not saying Chris will get an Oscar because he is so good and so compelling in his performances that he HAS to be given one ASAP.
I am saying that, for one reason or another, he is very well loved in Hollywood, by producers and directors, and he is getting preferential treatment at the moment.

Maybe he has the ambition to get an Oscar to shut us up about his cardboard acting. Maybe his wife has the ambition to be married to an Oscar winner. Who knows?

Whenever I point out that Tom is a better actor to a hardcore Chris fan, they play me the “But who is in the top 10 best paid actors chart, hm? It’s Chris!” In my book, getting more money does not mean you are better, but there are many who disagree.

Also, it pisses me off that Chris gets first pick at the best things in Hollywood just because he is pretty and he so blatantly shows that he doesn’t give two shits about bringing it. He just acts as though we are keeping him hostage in front of the cameras, making him work for peanuts and keeping him from living a wonderful life. I know he CAN be great. He just doesn’t even try and that’s the most upsetting part.

  20. Ava says:

I don’t agree with many saying oh he can wipe his tears away with money. What? So because he’s an actor and makes money he has to accept the paps scaring his kids? Doctors make a lot of money so what? As a parent he has the right and need to advocate for his kids. Famous people do have rights too. It doesn’t mean he in not grateful for his success. It also doesn’t mean he has to shut up and take whatever happens to him….

    • Mewsie says:

He should also sit down and talk to his wife about pimping the kids to the press.
Most gossip blogs nowadays have a “No kids” policy, where they do not publish paparazzi shots of public people’s children without the parents’ consent.

And while all other celebrities are hiding their kids away like squirrels, Elsa was posting pics of the newborn twins on her Instagram and telling the photographers where Chris and would be with the kids.

There is this one set of pics from last summer I think, where Chris is alone at the beach with India, and I swear he looked like he was about to cry because, telephoto lens or not, you need to be rather close to get that much detail in shots and I bet he was wondering how come all those creepy men knew to come to the middle of fucking nowhere to take pics of him playing in the sand with his daughter.

  21. Marty says:

From this interview, it really doesn’t seem like he’s happy where he’s at professionally or personally.

Oh Chris, you sweet dumb bunny.

  22. Skins says:

He should realize that it is the movies he is in selling the tickets, not him. I wouldn’t know him if I was standing next to him in line

He’s very pretty, i mean he is drop dead gorgeous. His brothers are the ugly sisters really. I like him because he is a pretty sound and nice guy. But, i wonder if he is grown up and settled down too quickly. But, he doesn’t seem the type to walk out on his family, he’s come from a grounded root and it stand him in good stead.

Plus not all successful actors can act, look at Harrison Ford, he’s gorgeous but dim. Liam Neeson not exactly Daniel Day Lewis but really watchable. It;s just that Blackhat is badly miscast. Some actors need to play to type and he is one of them. His career is safe, he will come and go but i don’t think he is now Mark Hamill. He’ll be steady.

There is an opportunity cost for all professions. Teachers may spend more time with their students than their kids at home. Doctors can get called in at any point and time during a week. Athletes train and travel. I do not feel sorry for celebrities who are followed by photographers. If you hate that aspect of the job of being a famous actor/actress, move to another area or find another career. We all have something about our job that we hate and complaining changes nothing.

The movie still isn’t out. I find it odd a nomination for a performance from a movie that hasn’t been out for the whole award season, except a few pre-screenings that a very few have seen. At least, the other movies have been released by now. It seems so silly to me.

    God I love him.

Blackhat was a bad movie–not because of Chris Hemsworth, who actually did a pretty good job with what he was handed (for instance: the very last scene, in the airport, is a really elegant piece of acting, imho–a man who isn’t hurt playing a man who’s hurt who’s acting like he isn’t hurt–and it’s just walking, nothing fancy). It’s a bad movie because the focus was on following the damn electrons through the circuits, as if that was supposed to build tension. Mostly it made me seasick.

I think he’s a better actor than he’s given credit for; is it his fault that he’s pretty to look at? He loves his family. He’s uncomfortable with marketing. He doesn’t like people who build relationships based on how successful or famous he is. I don’t have a problem with any of those things. He’s never going to be as frenetic as Hiddleston, and that’s okay. Two of that in one movie would be way too much. He seems to me to be a solidly grounded person. Good for him.

I’m sorry. Did he speak? I’m not going to lie. I skipped down to the pictures and just stared at him for a while. He is so beautiful, and I normally don’t go for the blonde haired surfer dudes (which is how he’s always appeared to me), but he is quite lovely to look at.

As far as what he actually said, is the USA really that much worse with the Paparazzi? It does seem like the most famous (TMZ, Perez Hilton, etc) are US based. Of course, it could just seem to me that they are the most popular because I live here.

Could he walk down the street in Europe or Australia and be ignored?

    • Jessica says:

In London, maybe not, because there’s some really intense soap opera fans there who’d remember him from Home & Away, and the paps would be all over him because of that. But they wouldn’t bother following him outside of London. The rest of Europe, no problem, unless he decided to wander around in his Thor costume.

Australia…if his wife behaved as she does in the US then our tabloids would be all over them, but if they actually wanted to be private they’d have no issues. We don’t have enough paps here to have them stalking people everyday if those people aren’t going to play the game. They bothered Russell Crowe for a while but with him there was a chance he’d get into a brawl with someone and they’d have a scoop. Plus he’s sold some stories and given interviews to our tabloids. The rest of our famous actors are mostly left alone. I only see pap pictures of Cate Blanchett in Sydney ever few months, and when she’s with her kids they seem to be taken from a fair distance away.

He’s really not that famous. Most people still just know him as ‘that guy that plays Thor’. If he wants to be low-key he’ll have no problem.

He should model his career after Brad Pitt’s, I think. Not that he has the acting ability of Brad (that we have seen so far), but Brad has managed to get himself taken pretty seriously by critics and the academy both, all while maintaining his sex symbol image.
