Kate Winslet on whether she’s ever had Botox or fillers: ‘Oh f–k no! No!’

winslet cover

Kate Winslet covers the March issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK. She’s getting a lot of criticism for looking so airbrushed and Photoshopped, but if you look at the close-up shots, I actually think she looks relatively normal/like herself. But yes, the photo of Winslet in the black trench coat is probably Photoshopped to make her look slimmer. I’m okay with it. Mostly I’m just happy that Kate doesn’t look so pulled and Botoxy anymore. She’s actually asked point-blank if she’s ever Botoxed and she denies it, saying she just uses some Lancome product (she’s one of the faces of Lancome). Some highlights from the piece:

Her two divorces & how it affects her children: “I think it’s very important to teach your children to struggle on some level. I would honestly say that I wouldn’t change a thing. Even all the bad bits. It doesn’t matter how ***** times have been, they all matter, because those things shape who you are. And if you don’t like who you are, well, then you’re ****** really, aren’t you?’

Body pressures: “There’s a big part of me – now, more than ever before – that feels a sense of responsibility for how other women view themselves. Take having the baby, for instance. Have I actively been on a diet to lose my baby weight? No, I haven’t. I genuinely bloody haven’t. I so didn’t want to be one of those, ‘Oh, wow, she’s back in shape after 12 weeks’ women. When I read things like that, I just think, ‘Oh, for f**k’s sake, that’s actually impossible.’”

When asked if she’s had Botox or fillers: ”Oh f**k no! No! It’s this incredible serum – Lancome’s Visionnaire Cx. You’re going to think I’m just saying this because I’m the face of the brand but honestly, honestly, you have to believe me. ‘This stuff is magic. I just bung it on every day under my moisturiser, or make-up, or whatever, and it really does make a difference. And I’m 39 next week, so I need all the bloody help I can get.”

[From TV3 and The Daily Mail]

Back in 2011, I somewhat controversially stated that I believed that Winslet had some kind of significant face work done. Looking back at those photos… yeah, I still believe it. I think she either had some eye work or a facelift. She looked especially “tight” and “pulled”. But whatever happened, her face gradually went back to relative normalcy. I do not believe she was messing with her face while pregnant with baby Bear, and I think that helped a lot. So while I think she looks good, I do think she could cool it with the talk about how she’s so natural.

She did. You can see it. She definitely had her nose done at some point in her life too. It looks nothing like it did in Titanic or Sense and Sensibility. She needs to stop protesting so much.

    • Hmm says:

she said no to Botox and fillers (Brandi Glanville) not plastic surgery.

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

She’s lied about plastic surgery as well, and (hilariously) started an anti-plastic surgery league: “I will never give in [Cosmetic surgery] goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty.” Her supercilious attitude really bugs me.

  2. bns says:

That quote about divorce is stupid. She wanted to teach her children to struggle? Like, what?

    • Esmom says:

I know. She’s almost making divorce itself sound noble, like it was actually a good thing, In some cases I do think divorce can be a good thing when a relationship is toxic…but the way she says it here is pretty off-putting.

  3. Maria says:

    Lies….

They ALL get work at some point.

  4. HoustonGrl says:

I have such a soft spot for Kate Winslet, but yeah, she’s definitely had work done. I remember thinking that back when she was wearing all those illusion dresses. Anyway, if she’s since stopped, then good.

  5. BooBooLaRue says:

Sorry but I hardly recognized her.

  6. scout says:

I thought it’s one of Demi Moore’s daughters face up there! Unless she lost of weight recently after the baby, looks it’s been photoshopped. She is pretty as she is, why mess with it.

  7. AuroraO says:

Hey if I could afford it I’d get my face touched up too. I’m 29 right now but in 10 years maybe I will want something done. To each their own.

  8. mia girl says:

Has she had “botox or fillers”? F*ck no!
She’s had “botox AND fillers”. There fixed that.

I like her a lot, but come on.

  9. Someonestolemyname says:

She’s so beautiful. Love her, she looks natural.

  10. TheSageM says:

Maybe not fillers, but certainly Botox. No question.

  11. Luca76 says:

As much as I respect her talent I just can’t with the BS it’s silly to lie about that stuff and no I won’t buy your serum or whatever.

  12. Jaded says:

“Teach your children to struggle” ?!?!?! That is the most utterly selfish and bone-headed thing I’ve ever heard her say. No Kate, divorce doesn’t teach your children to struggle, it hurts them and confuses them. Especially when they are very young which yours were when both your previous marriages blew up.

And stop swearing so much. The odd f-bomb is OK but your constant profanities are becoming tiresome.

  13. santana says:

She did. It’s recognizable not in these pics, because all that airbrush, but in the latest pap pics from the set of her new film. Robin Wright “fuck yeah, everybody does it” she said, sprinkles twice a year and she looks amazing, very natural, just taking the edge. One the other hand you have Nicole Kidman who made a joke of herself and barely can move her facial muscles. Ladies: if you want to do it get the right Doc., ask Robin Wright’s who’s hers.

    • Maggi says:

I don’t think Robin Wright looks good at all. Her brow lays down heavily on the rest of her face in typical Botox fashion (like Olivia Munn, Milla Jovovich, et al).

  14. Rhiley says:

She is one actress, I once loved but now kind of loathe. She seems kind of screwed up in a very put together sort of way.

    • jenn12 says:

This is not only true, but possibly the best worded post I’ve seen all day. *curtsies*

    • Gracie says:

*screwed up in a very put together sort of way* that’s actually a great way of putting it. LOL, I am gonna remember that line.

  15. M says:

I like that they didn’t airbrush out her fine lines around her eye in the close up. I think she looks like herself in these pics & others. To me she looks totally natural in interviews, etc but I don’t doubt mags airbrush/photoshop her pics which might give the illusion of Botox & fillers. I’ve always thought she is aging gracefully & without excuses. But- she’s only 38! When did that get “really old”? Oh- in Hollywood that’s ancient.

    • perplexed says:

Yeah, I thought it was weird when she said that because she’s 39 she needs all the help she can get. 39 isn’t 70.

  16. fairygodmother says:

It irritates me more when they deny work being done. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Besides comparing past photos it is obvious. Just be honest- or she cannot be coz she if the face of Lancome. I have not even tried this product she claims works. It has some kind of silicone in the ingredients and it always makes my skin break out. When I did try another product it made my make-up look like what is left from using an eraser. Too many products I guess.

  17. jammypants says:

You know what would be more refreshing? When women stopped getting asked these questions and more about their careers.

I mean just compare the quotes here to the Kevin Spacey one. It’s night and day.

  18. vauvert says:

You know, I think she is a great actress but the way she holds herself up as if she’s some sort of role model for being perfectly natural… sorry Kate, not buying it.

Part of the problem though is how society as a whole not only expects these women – actresses, models – to look perfect, but then we also expect them to be that way naturally! I mean, who the hell can win that?? So then of course they go on denying all the things they do, because they are perceived as shallow for doing it. And we take them apart – every photo, every public appearance, and dissect the look or absence of wrinkles, plump lips, slightly rounded bellies… and we criticize them when “they let themselves go”, we criticize them when they have work done. But then we also create a false expectation for ourselves as women to try and look like that which is impossible – most of us don’t have their genes, their leisure time, their money or access to their specialists. It is never ending.

  19. Mrs.Krabapple says:

A picture is worth a thousand words:

    The BAFTAs 2010: http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Kate+Winslet/2010+BAFTA+awards+London/OZSwsrnZg2K

Yeah, she’s a liar. But she’s admitted to lying about having a vaginal childbirth vs. a c-section, because she wanted to appear better in the eyes of the public. So she’s not above lying about ANYTHING, really. I don’t know why people continue to ask her questions when any answer she gives is suspect.

I don’t think Hollywood is fair to women, and I don’t actually blame actresses for doing whatever they have to do to keep getting job offers. But just don’t lie about it. It’s a form of vanity (and vanity based on lies at that), that OTHER women might need a little help to keep their looks, but Winslet is soooo genetically superior that SHE doesn’t. Also, that we the public are so blind and stupid that we can’t see the difference. That’s what bugs me.

    • Lucy2 says:

She never looked that different to me and I never really thought she had botoxed, but the difference in those pictures is pretty noticeable.

    • lisa2 says:

I don’t know.. I read interviews from some of my favorite actresses and they don’t get asked these questions. I think she kind of opened the door to them when she keeps talking about how women do this or that; and that she would never do this or that. The press never forgets what they want to remember so they come to her with these kind of questions. If you don’t make your looks a big deal then sometimes the media will look for a different angle.

  20. India says:

Her nose is less than half the size of what it was when she came on the scene in Titanic.

  21. silly you says:

She is definitely doing some injectibles or something, but I give her props for covering her lies by pushing Lancôme. That’s a ho who knows how to earn.
