Beyonce & Jay-Z have permanently relocated to LA, on Goop’s advice

Jay-Z is to New York like… Oprah is to Chicago. You know? Some people are synonymous with their cities. Jay could travel the world, he could live for years in the middle of nowhere and he would still be a New Yorker, he would still rap about Brooklyn and New York would still be in his blood. I always thought he was probably pretty happy calling Manhattan his homebase, but as it turns out, Jay-Z and Beyonce have already relocated to the West Coast. For months now, TMZ has been tracking Bey and Jay’s attempts to purchase major real estate in LA, and now TMZ says that they’re already living out of a hotel in LA and have been for a month or so. And they already enrolled Blue Ivy in pre-school!

Beyonce and Jay Z are moving to L.A. and they’ve already enrolled Blue Ivy in school … TMZ has learned. We’ve learned … Beyonce and Jay Z are currently living in a hotel in Beverly Hills and actively looking for an estate to buy on the westside of L.A., which includes Beverly Hills, Holmby Hills and Bel-Air. We’re told they have already discreetly looked at a number of homes, but so far none fit the bill.

We’ve also learned the famous couple enrolled their 3-year-old into a toddler program at an elite private school — we know which one but we’re not naming it. But we will tell you, the tuition is $15,080 a year. We’re told Blue Ivy was admitted halfway through the school year, which is unusual. The school generally only accepts students at the beginning of the school year.

As for why they’re moving, sources connected with the couple tell us they want “a change in lifestyle.” You’ll re recall, Bey and Jay spent the summer in a $200K a month rental near Bev Hills. We do not know but assume they will keep their New York digs.

[From TMZ]

This is just… weird. Right? I mean, Beyonce and Jay-Z are the Queen and King of New York. Blue Ivy is a New York baby! Is this all part of the sketchiness that went down between Bey and Jay last year? Is this part of the deal? Like, we’ll stay together and try for another baby but only if we move to a city so I don’t have to keep running into all of your New York side-pieces?

According to Us Weekly, it wasn’t about the side-pieces though. Their sources say Gwyneth Paltrow “heavily influenced” the move. A source says:

“Beyonce and Jay Z are making L.A. their permanent home based a lot on the advice of their friends. The friend that really influenced them to move was Gwyneth Paltrow. Gwyneth was telling Jay and Bey about the quality of life for her kids in L.A. and really swayed Beyonce and Jay to make the move. It’s all for Blue Ivy.”

[From Us Weekly]

The source also says that Bey and Jay will keep their New York property (properties, I believe) but LA will become their homebase. I can sort of understand moving to LA for a change of pace, and being able to move around with more freedom. What I don’t understand is moving to LA because Goop suggested it. I know Gwyneth likes to name-drop her friendship with Beyonce, but I really doubt that they’re close enough for Beyonce to uproot her family to be closer to Goop, you know?

…..hope Bey got the phone number of Goop’s favorite LA vag steamer……..

Moving to LA cannot be better for a marriage. This is where all the wanna be video vixens, upcoming starlets, models, socialites, etc live. Jay Z will have his pick of thousands of girls in LA. I don’t think Jay is faithful to Bey, never has been. She probably knows it comes with marrying him and turns a blind eye mostly.

  3. scout says:

Thought they are going to move to France like Brange! Y’all watch out for Goop’s advice in LA , she might unconsciously “uncouple” all of ya en masse.

  4. Liane says:

Is the quality of life so much better in LA? It seems to me that celebrities who live in NYC have a bit more privacy (if they want it). Why give that up?

    • lirko says:

I remember Jerry Seinfeld saying staying in LA too long made him noticeably less funny.

    • Lexie says:

+1. Staying in NYC makes much more sense.

    • Celebwatch says:

Are you kidding, LA is paradise on earth if you have money. Mountains, ocean. Both of which they will be able to view from their palatial estate. Perfect weather. Sure NYC has great culture but not much else. LA has theatre and museums too, not as good but definitely good enough.

  5. HiHeyHello says:

Why do y’all hate them so much? I think them along with Brange, Goop, and all of the other celebs on this site that are irrationally hated are pretty harmless. They come around when they have stuff to promote. Other than that, they stay quiet and no one hears a word. There are people that deserve way more animosity in this world.

    • Kim1 says:

I noticed many celebs with very devoted fan bases are the most hated.Oh well I am a fan of Beyonce and Jay and Brad and Angie.I am not a fan of Paltrow but I don’t dislike her, same goes for Taylor Swift.

  6. kri says:

All bow down to the GUPRU. When she whispers her wise words, mountains listen. God, her ego will be even bigger from this crap. Personally, I would prefer NYC to LA for a million reasons, but that’s just me.

    LMAO
Their are pros and cons to living in LA.There are more paps in LA but there is also more privacy with gated communities. An example when Brad Pitt was filming Burn After Reading in NYC we often saw pics of Maddox going to school. We also saw pics of the other JP kids at the park, shopping at Art Store ,etc.
Whereas in LA we rarely see any of the Jolie -Pitts because they can avoid the paps using private entrances, decoy vehicles, etc
I believe the Knowles will be able to navigate LA the same way when it comes to schools, playdates, shopping etc.

  9. Loopy says:

But in LA its paparazzi central I believe in NY its a bit more relaxed, but they are filthy rich people maybe they are escaping the weather for a time.

    • me says:

The past two winters have been so brutal. I wouldn’t blame them for wanting to live somewhere much warmer ! I remember years ago Jay-Z said he wanted to raise a family in Orlando. Wonder if he still feels that way?

  10. Erinandpet says:

$15,080 a year for full-time daycare/preschool is a bargain in my neck of the woods. I’m shocked they’re not paying twice that much.

    • me says:

Why is daycare so expensive? The people who work at daycares make mininum wage. Where is all this money going? It ain’t on juice boxes and crackers that’s for sure.

    • Celebwatch says:

It’s probably a traditional preschool, half-days rather than full day daycare. I doubt they would drop their daughter off somewhere no matter how nice for the full day when she has an army of nannies to tend to her at home too.

  11. Thaisajs says:

Sorry, a $15,000-yr preschool ain’t that exclusive. I pay $16,000 a year in DC for my toddler’s daycare. (Although she goes full day…assuming Blue Ivy goes to a part-day program, you could make a case the joint is a bit more exclusive than a Kindercare etc.)

  12. Birdix says:

Do $200k a month rentals even exist? That’s $2.4 million a year in rent. And yes, unfortunately $15k for preschool isn’t that much these days in LA. And in NYC they are often $30k+.

    • Kim1 says:

Most of those rentals are short term. Some luxury hotels suites are $5000 a night. At $200,000 you are getting an entire mansion for a little more money(6700).

  13. Maghreid says:

Don’t know if its true but I am pre-school shopping myself and heard a few mutterings that they were shut out of the upper west side exclusive NYC preschools they were interested in. Side note: $15k is a bargain. We are looking at damn near $27k for a half day 3 times a week.

    • me says:

That seems insane for just PRE-SCHOOL. Remember Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, and Kim Kardashian all went to exclusive private schools lol.

      • Maghreid says:

I never thought of Paris, Nicole (though she at least got into college), or Kim to be a good representation of the schools they attended.

    • Celebwatch says:

Half-day three days a week for 27k? That IS crazy expensive, probably triple + other big cities in the US. Better be making bank.

      • Maghreid says:

It is insane to spend 27k on preschool. This paticular school though has a lot of special programs for differently abled children; which is a requirement for us. For me, getting my son the best education that meets his needs is paramount. The “prestige” schools are just a bragging point for parents.

  14. Pandy says:

Those two went hollywood years ago. About time they made it official.
