Scotland Yard ‘ignored’ Roslyn Loveless’s offer to provide further info on Thomas Markle

In 2018, Thomas Markle’s first ex-wife Roslyn Loveless wrote a letter to Scotland Yard, informing them of Markle’s depravities and stating plainly that Markle is a huge threat to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Doria Ragland. The police only shared the letter with Meghan and Harry in January 2019, and it looks more than likely that the letter was shared with senior courtiers and royals in Kensington Palace and beyond. The police told Meghan not to reveal anything and that they would pass along the information to the relevant authorities. The police did not do any of that – they didn’t share the information, and they promptly “lost” the letter, and they had to ask Meghan for her copy in the past week. Well, if you can believe it, it gets even worse. Loveless apparently offered to provide further information to the authorities about Markle, and they just… ignored her. Completely.

The Metropolitan Police ignored an offer from Thomas Markle’s ex-wife to provide further information about his alleged child sex offences, The Telegraph can reveal.

In her letter to the Met in January 2019, Roslyn Loveless told police that they could contact her by phone or visit her personally if they needed more details.

With Loveless having died in 2024, that opportunity is lost, potentially hampering further inquiries.

The force announced on Thursday that it had referred itself to the complaints watchdog over its failure to act on the accusations against Mr Markle, 82.

Commander Adam Slonecki, who leads the Met’s Protection Command, acknowledged that the letter sent by Loveless, Mr Markle’s first wife, contained a number of claims about alleged offending outside the UK. He said that following a review, a voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct “in respect of the decision not to inform other law enforcement agencies, and the decision to pass the letter to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex”.

The force will now also “make a number of referrals to relevant overseas law enforcement agencies” about the various allegations in the letter.

Police sources confirmed that the force contacted the Duchess’s office last week asking for a copy of the letter, which had been sent to the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre, the unit tasked with dealing with individuals posing a threat to royals and politicians.

While they did manage to locate a record on their system, sources acknowledged that they have not found the original copy and may never do so.

The letter was passed from royal protection officers to what at the time was the joint office of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Kensington Palace, The Telegraph understands, which suggests that the wider royal household was aware of its contents.

[From The Telegraph]

“While they did manage to locate a record on their system, sources acknowledged that they have not found the original copy and may never do so….” Jesus. I would love to know exactly how this all went down in the past week, after Meghan’s initial statement confirming the existence of the letter. Because the police seemed like they were going to pretend that her statement was false, then they double-checked to see if she still had a copy… and that’s when they magically found “a record” of the letter, right? Do I have the correct chronology? So, it’s clear that someone (who?) ordered the Met Police to not just bury the information, but destroy the letter itself. As for the hand-wringing about “now Loveless is dead, we’ll never know what she knew,” Thomas Jr. literally provided the authorities with a trove of the most depraved media. All it’s going to take is one agency opening up an investigation and Markle is toast.

Lost my ass. Someone destroyed that letter then they had to backtrack and create some kind of “record” of having received it once they found out Meghan kept a copy ( because she is smarter than they are). And W&K claiming they didn’t know is also BS.

    • Kristen from MA says:

      🎯

      • Beth says:

Meghan couldn’t have known there’d been no referral after she was told it was being investigated and not to go public for legal reasons. The letter wasn’t even hers, no contact with father and civilians can’t check or follow up cross-border agencies, Interpol, FBI, etc, anyway!

      • Who WERE these people? says:

This may be covered here soon, sort of related in nature of crime and royalty but not perpetrators– The Guardian says Scotland Yard looking into Andrew, Epstein,Maxwell using Balmoral for trafficking.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

This is either the grossest incompetence or strong evidence of a shocking cover up. I lean toward the latter. W&K surely knew because of Knauf running the joint office at the time.

      • BeanieBean says:

@Beth: civilians absolutely can follow-up with the police contact who originally contacted them. They will have been given a case number and phone number to call if they have any questions, etc. Looks like the Met didn’t bother to do that, likely because they knew damn well they weren’t going to do anything.

@Who: they’ll give it a day or two, find nothing, and that’s that.

@Brassy Rebel: I lean toward shocking cover up, as well.

    • Mego says:

      Of course they did.

    • Jay says:

The thing is, there’s a lot of emphasis from the police about missing documentation and records (namely, that they mysteriously don’t seem to have any anymore) but it’s not like we’re dealing with ancient history where we have to rely on scant evidence to speculate. This is recent – there are still living people that can and should divulge what they know.

It was only seven years ago – there must be people involved that would remember showing Meghan, the brand new Duchess of Sussex, a letter with such allegations about her own father. There must be people who remember sharing (or not sharing) information with KP, and sharing (or not sharing) information with other authorities. Even if the police sadly deal with such sordid crimes every day, it’s certainly not every day that such crimes have ramifications for the royal family! Especially within the context of Andrew’s situation and the looming backdrop of the Epstein files.
Wouldn’t you remember that? Someone must.

      • BeanieBean says:

You’re right! There would be multiple employees at the Met who’d remember this, I mentioned the same thing yesterday. So many people knew! And then there’s the staff at KP, they’re going to remember the Met coming to see Meghan & handing her a letter! If it went down that way. I still think they put it in a forwarding envelope & mailed it off, with it going to the KP mailroom first.

And if they found it in their ‘system’ (correspondence/evidence database) there will be a location noted there, Evidence Room E, basement level, north side, Shelf 12, Box #12345, etc.

  2. Louise177 says:

I don’t have a problem with Scotland Yard not investigating since the supposed crimes took place in another country by an American but it baffles me they didn’t forward the letter to anyone. I don’t think there was a cover-up but weird to not do anything.

    • Startup Spouse says:

Palace probably asked them to sweep it under the rug so Thomas Markle could maintain some semblance of credibility to people with no critical thinking skills.

    • Becks1 says:

The cover-up was that they didn’t do anything. The DM of all places is making a point of detailing what “should” have happened and one of the things in Wilson’s article from this week is that the Met should have gone to the FBI Legate at the US Embassy in London. And for them to have “lost” the letter – very convenient. They really were okay with Markle continuing to abuse children as long as no one ever found out about it.

      • Bren says:

If Meghan had publicly reconciled with that man, the “lost” letter would’ve suddenly appeared, and the proper inquiries would’ve been made. They cared more about using that man to abuse Meghan than about the abuse suffered by the children.

      • llilysmom says:

And they probably didn’t approach the FBI because the FBI would have asked inconvenient questions about Andrew.

    • BeanieBean says:

SOP (standard operating procedure) would be to pass the info to the appropriate authorities. They didn’t. They’re now covering that up, first with their ‘letter, what letter?’ brazen lie, and subsequently sitting on their hands for a solid week before reporting themselves to the IPOC. A week! Also, reporting themselves?! Why couldn’t somebody else do that, say a gazillion members of the public?

  3. Jais says:

Didn’t the Wales come strait outta the gate denying that they knew anything about the letter? That always seemed foolish to me bc ummm ofc they did, they shared an office .And now it’s being confirmed that they were in fact very aware. Why they wanted to make themselves out to seem like such obvious liars I have no clue.

    • C-Shell says:

I’m at a loss to remember the exact wording W&K used in their statement, but I remember thinking at the time it was squirrelly and left them a loophole to deny they knew about the letter provided to Meghan “at the time” or words to that effect. Maybe another CBer recalls the exact wording better, but I remember thinking at the time, “that isn’t a ‘no’.”

      • Jais says:

Thank u, cuz I remember that now. Someone mentioned how the wording left that interpretation open. And to be fair, it was not an official statement. But even then, the goal was to leave that impression. The fact that their team felt the need to do that was silly bc it only made them look like even more like their hand was stuck in the cookie jar.

      • Becks1 says:

It was something about how they had no prior knowledge of these allegations.

      • Brassy Rebel says:

        They all lawyered up.

      • C-Shell says:

@jais — it WAS silly because now we have the Met, the Telegraph, AN Wilson and Maureen all saying, variously, that the letter was delivered to the joint office at KP, or that it’s inconceivable that the Royal households were unaware or wouldn’t have been advised. So W&K’s weasel words are biting them on the ass.

@Becks1 — that sounds right. Well, duh, no one had PRIOR knowledge!

  4. aquarius64 says:

The thought of the Waleses being cooked for this is chef’s kiss. Karma came for William and Kate. And somebody may decide he/she will not take the fall for the Crown.

    • Dee says:

I remember William doing some visit to MI6 like he was James Bond in 2024. To claim no knowledge of this is laughable.

      • AR says:

Now that I’m thinking about it… didn’t the Dynamic Duo release a very similar statement about Uncle Andy’s crimes? I laughed when they did for this one because it seemed so stupid.

  5. Always doubt says:

I cannot understand why Roslyn Loveless did not send the letter to law enforcement authorities in the U.S. in the first place.

    • JayBlue says:

Maybe she did, and it got ignored/written off as an angry ex wife with an axe to grind?

    • NoBS Please says:

No-one has any clue whether Roslyn sent a letter to the FBI or not.

Did the FBI state on record that they were never contacted by Roslyn? And even if they did make such a statement, how confident can anyone be that they, like the Met Police, didn’t receive a letter and “destroy” it?

If there’s one thing people should learn from this whole episode it’s to NOT make assumptions!

      • Michelle says:

If she sent the letter in 2019, it was during Trump’s first administration. The Trump FBI in 2019 likely “lost” the letter as well.

    • anotherlily says:

He was living in Mexico, out of reach of US police. Rosarito was and is an area where a drug cartel has considerable control. Sexual exploitation and the drug trade go hand in hand. He has been befriended and supported by UK tabloid reporters from the start.

    • Becks1 says:

She might have, but I also feel like her #1 priority was Meghan not letting him near her kids. He also may have made specific threats regarding future Sussex children that made her feel they were the primary target. So I feel like she wrote to the Met from that angle. But of course, we dont know at this point.

    • Carmen says:

I read this morning she sent the letter to the UK authorities because she felt Markle Sr was a danger to Harry, Meghan, Archie and Doria.

    • Lucy says:

The same fbi that didn’t look into Larry Nassar, the abusive team USA gymnastics doctor? The same fbi that almost every major predator outed in the past few years there’s proof the fbi sat on tips about them for years? They aren’t exactly Johnny on the spot.

  6. Steph says:

While I 100% believe the palace had this buried I don’t understand the end game of it. Why? They went after Doria to hurt Meg, why wouldn’t they use this info to hurt her?

    • Nutella toast says:

Because he was willing to sell out his own daughter without hesitation and trash her. Doria would never.

    • Miranda says:

Presumably because the public would’ve immediately said, “yes, and what are the BRF going to do about their own paedophile?”

      • QuiteContrary says:

        This.

The BRF always, always acts in its own interests. They’ve been throwing vulnerable people — including victims of child sexual abuse — under their gilded carriages for years.

    • ecsmom says:

I think they did use it to hurt her. The BM hounding her to meet with her father, then how her father wants to see his grandchildren. They used him to make her look cold and uncaring knowing she couldn’t reveal the reasons why. If the palace knew, you can’t tell me the BM didn’t know.

    • Becks1 says:

I think it was partly so they could keep using Thomas to attack her in the press, and I also think it was just general protection of the Firm. Remember the Andrew “stuff” was really picking up steam at this point and my guess is they didn’t want people thinking too hard about all the royal connections to sex offenders, including the one who was the Queen’s favorite son.

The other thing to keep in mind – remember when Endgame came out from Scobie, and Kaiser said something about how the Windsors couldn’t crisis manage their way out of a paper bag, or something like that?

these people just aren’t as good as we think they should be. They’re verging on incompetent in many ways – the courtiers AND the royals. I’ve said before that I think we often look at the royal family and hold them to our own standards of family, not the royal standards – i.e. Charles is never ever going to wrestle on the ground with Archie and Lili and Harry knows that. Charles is never going to meet them not wearing a 3 piece suit. And Harry knows that and we as onlookers need to adjust our expectations of Charles.

I think this is the same thing. I think often we compare the Firm to what we know of competent businesses and organizations and then we’re puzzled as to why they would do X or Z or why they’re not doing Y etc. But they’re not really all that competent. The Firm is basically held together by tradition, pomp, and the legacy of a queen who ruled for 70 years. It’s not competence that’s keeping the monarchy in place.

So while I think there is a lot of maneuvering and backstabbing etc, I also think sometimes we just give these people way too much credit.

      • Eurydice says:

Yes, this. We’re used to organizations that hire on merit and whose goals are to provide performance and product. But there is no measure of merit in the monarchy, the only product is to provide a continuous line of succession and the goal is the perpetuation of the institution – probably, covering things up is considered the height of competence in the royal world. I wonder what would have happened if Elizabeth hadn’t hung on for a long as she did. The world has evolved away from monarchies and Charles has never been beloved.

      • BeanieBean says:

        👏
And the American version of that is our country has been taken over by nincompoops.

    • Jay says:

I imagine the palace was ecstatic to have something they believed they could use as leverage when it came to Meghan! From their point of view, keeping the knowledge secret had only upsides: in the short-term, the media was hammered Meghan about her father and, since she believed the police were investigating, Meghan couldn’t say why she cut contact. If and when she sent him a letter or tried to reconcile, I’m sure the palace would have been happy to make sure his crimes were known. In the long-term, knowledge is power – it was something they could potentially hold over Meghan’s head in the years to come. Nevermind the ongoing harm to children, they are used to covering up those kinds of crimes.

Of course, they had no idea that she would be leaving the country in about a year, nor that she’d be competent enough to keep her own copy of the letter!

  7. Kingston says:

@Louise177 if you “don’t think there was a cover up” ( involving the palaces, the Met and the media) you haven’t been paying attention.

  8. NoBS Please says:

It is sooooooooo significant that the 2019 whistleblowing letter was sent to the joint Office of Kate/William as well as Harry/Meghan.

The media have been trying to dodge this issue since the scandal broke, and have no doubt been enjoying seeing some haters bash Meghan for not saying anything publicly at the time, or since, as if it was up to her to make statements about police investigations of unproven allegations.

But it’s only a matter of time before people start asking out loud: well, Kate and William’s office received the letter too, what the hell did THEY do about it?

That’s what we all REALLY want to know!

    • Jais says:

Yeah, that’s the thing. There were and have been people in the media trying to say well why didn’t Meghan do more. Totally unfair. But if that’s the complaint, well then, the truth has always been well why didn’t the future king also do something more. Bc William and Kate knew and their pr around this has been squirrely. If Meghan should have done more, then the same could be said about William and Kate. Why didn’t they follow up? If the allegations were that serious and people think Meghan should have somehow “done more” well then apply that to the future king and queen as well. You can’t criticize her for that without also criticizing them.

      • Mario says:

I just keep thinking about the stress she was under in January of 2019…and then this new information was dropped on her (and she was told not to say anything). We know this is when she wanted to seek inpatient mental healthcare, we know this is when she questioned if she could even go on living, and we know this is when Harry began to understand the only way to save his wife might be to give up life as he knew it and walk away.

And they were so mercilessly derided for this. The British people, press, and American and Australian politicians, media, and celebrities who aligned themselves with this are evil. Meghan told us “you never know what’s going on behind closed doors,” and she was telling us all we needed (or have a right) to know.

    • lucy10 says:

“Kate and William’s office received the letter too, what the hell did THEY do about it?”
We know what they did! They sent their scurrilous tabloid scum to pile on bs at Meghan cutting her deadbeat father out of her life, hoping she’s reconnect with him & they could then bring out the big guns about his depravity! William & Kate should be EXPOSED for their knowledge – AT THE TIME – about this letter & how they used it to bludgeon Meghan via their sleazy hacks in the tabloids!

  9. Amy Bee says:

Yeah somebody destroyed the letter, perhaps on the instructions of the Palace. No doubt Meghan was told by the police and the Palace to not talk about it only for the Palace to allow the press to attack Meghan for not seeing her father. Then KP allowed the press to publish her letter to him and for Jason Knauf to testify against her in her lawsuit against the DM. The Royal Family will want to say they’re not involved by they’re a big part of this situation.

  10. C-Shell says:

This looks a lot like the Met is going to fall on the sword to protect the ones who directed the cover up. I can’t believe they are this incompetent and so inept at basic policing.

  11. Coplaya says:

Thomas Markle is scum and the only person who needs to be investigated is Thomas Markle. This whole letter thing is a shoot-the-messenger distraction that we need to stop following.

    • Interested Gawker says:

It isn’t ’shooting the messenger’ to ask who was instructed to do what when JKnife was the point person for WanK, the Sussexes AND Bad Dad. KP/CH/BP could have meddled behind the scenes around all this quite a bit. No one should stop following breadcrumbs over a letter the Met tried to say wasn’t anything they knew about, it’s necessary to know how that information was handled/mishandled and who might have told the Met what to do.

      • Coplaya says:

Following breadcrumbs is the sort of technicality that allows perpetrators to walk free. Does the handling or mishandling of a letter lessen the allegations against Thomas Sr? Does the involvement of KP/BP make them responsible for his crimes? I get where people are coming from but this letter is not the issue and the continued effort to determine who knew about it and when is pulling focus.

      • Interested Gawker says:

Yeah? No. Walk and chew gum; the letter is BM news independent of the case against Bad Dad.

“Does the handling or mishandling of a letter lessen the allegations against Thomas Sr? ”

No, this is a whole other affair that needs serious examination, there is no focus to pull from investigation happening in entirety other countries, they have their own protocols and will follow the information where it leads.

      • Jay says:

To add to your excellent points, @interested gawker, yes, it matters if anyone has knowledge of a crime and doesn’t report it, but especially if they have that knowledge and then take steps to cover it up.

If either the palace (who are public figures, receive taxpayer money and are always talking about service and duty), the media (who are duty-bound to report to the public) and most importantly actual law enforcement authorities took steps that either obstructed or subverted an investigation, that is a crime! And it’s criminal for a very good reason: corruption doesn’t just prevent one group of criminals from being punished, it lessens people’s trust in the rule of law overall. It’s not “pulling focus”: the coverup is part of the crime.

Plus, following these “breadcrumbs” is what led to the Met actually confirming that a letter was in fact shared with Meghan in the first place instead of pretending it didn’t exist at all.

      • Becks1 says:

What happened to the letter -who saw it and when – is absolutely necessary to this discussion. Something happened and these allegations were never passed on to the relevant law enforcement agencies. If the argument is that Thomas Markle is the one who needs to be investigated – then he should have been investigated 7 or 8 years ago when this letter was first sent to the Met. Whatever happened with that letter* meant that he was NOT investigated and that’s why its so important.

*In my opinion “the letter” itself as a physical thing isn’t the most important issue here, although of course it is an issue – its more of a symbol for me. Who knew about these allegations and at what point and what was done to cover up these allegations and to ensure that there was no investigation. Of course part of that is “what happened to the letter” but the allegations and the assurance of an investigation that never happened are the big issues for me.

    • Magdalena says:

Coplaya, I see what you are doing. However, the fact is that Meghan is being lambasted and called the most vile names, petitions are being circulated to “punish” her yet again for something she did NOT do, and all the while a criminal investigation was aborted and vital evidence misplaced on the instructions of *someone* likely in the palaces, with Kensington Palace being the chief suspect. It is more than possible to investigate two things – the alleged crimes and the cover up – at once. It is cover-ups such as these which deprive victims, past, present and future, of the justice they seek and deserve. Therefore it SHOULD be investigated.

The people who are accusing her of “having known all this time” are scrambling to suppress the glaring fact that the entire royal apparatus not only knew about the letter, but suppressed it AND continued to give the media the green light to attack and malign the name of a vulnerable, heavily pregnant woman and ramp it up – using her father – when it became clear that she was contemplating ending her life. And they did this KNOWING what he had been accused of and knowing that she was unable to speak out (the very thing they always claim to be unable to do while speaking through their various sources). They are less interested in justice for the victims and more invested in protecting the palaces, however disingenuously the concern for the victims is phrased.

I am 100% certain that the directive to Meghan to not discuss the letter publicly came from palace officials, rather than the police. THEY were the ones who would have assured her to keep quiet “because it was being investigated”, knowing full well that nothing was being done. Why should their actions be buried, especially when it may cast a light on past collaboration between the palaces and the Met in burying, “losing” and destroying correspondence and other records regarding Prince Andrew – showing a pattern of behaviour, rather than a one-off unfortunate incident?

Just the fact that the police had begun to publicly gaslight Meghan over the existence of that letter without even checking their records makes it imperative for EVERYTHING to be exposed. They only asked her for a copy *after* claiming to have found theirs – when the fact was that they had destroyed it years ago – and only after she *publicly* offered to share it with them.

      • Coplaya says:

@Magdalena. Thank You For taking the time to compose a thoughtful reply that didn’t attack me or my opinion. I agree that following the paper trail is important but right now this is a muddy undertaking with too many conflicting reports and far too much speculation. I’m concerned that this ‘letter’ will be used as a shortcut for larger issues with built-in protections. See the Epstein files.

    • lucy10 says:

I would call it a conspiracy between the trifecta: the royal family, UK tabloids & the Met. They agreed to bury the story of Thomas Markle Sr.’s depravity for several reasons. They wanted to avoid the proximity to the Andrew pedo allegations, which was bubbling up to the surface at the time. As a bonus, they used the threat of exposure to keep him in line as the bogeyman against Meghan.
With these new revelations, their shenanigans have been revealed to the whole world!

  12. bisynaptic says:

@Kaiser, in fairness: we don’t know how “promptly” they lost the letter.

    • Interested Gawker says:

We don’t even know if it IS lost, there’s a lot behind the scenes stuff that they await to cover their tracks. To begin with they tried to say they had no record of it in the first place and had to backtrack once Meghan produced hers.

      • BeanieBean says:

That was…something else. Letter, what letter? Jeepers, The Sun, could you possibly send us a copy of the letter? Meghan? Maybe you could send us a copy?

  13. Kasztanka says:

As for the chronology, as far as I recall, Meghan mentioned a letter from 2018; the police denied it, and immediately accusations arose that Meghan was lying. Then *The Sun* stepped forward—which came as a shock to me, too—to confirm that it was true. I’m not certain whether they sent a copy of the letter to the police right away or simply informed them about it (I believe they sent it). It was reported that Meghan had a copy—I don’t recall her sending it to anyone else; *The Sun* was the first, and perhaps the only, outlet to do so, which is why Meghan thanked them.

    • ChillinginDC says:

Yep! Honestly I think they lost and or destroyed the letter and just assumed that Meghan wouldn’t have taken a copy. I would have made one too. Clowns. All of them.

    • Jais says:

I assume she thanked the Sun for breaking the story about her dad? I suppose they could have just as likely buried it. But then Thomas Jr would have just gone to another outlet. So I think she shared the copy as proof of its existence. She also shared a copy with the Chris Ship at ITV or at least let him read it for proof.

  14. fwiw says:

No wonder Meghan enthusiastically changed her last name.

Yet another thing for which she was criticized.

  15. maisie says:

the “watchdog” is going to find a way to rule that this is all somehow Meghan’s fault, mark my words.

  16. Awol says:

There is no proof the letter has been lost or destroyed. It was shared with the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex who shared the office with the Duke and duchess of Cambridge. Someone at KP knows where it is.

  17. Jay says:

That last paragraph about how the letter was “passed from royal protection officers to what at the time was the joint office of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex … which suggests that the wider royal household was aware of its contents.” Oh sh!t, KP, you’re in it now! I imagine Will and Kate’s staff (well, the ones who aren’t joining them on vacation this week) are running around the office in a panic, probably trying to choose one staffer who can fall on the sword for them all. Especially because a few days ago they said they knew nothing about it!

There have been some royal trial balloons about “helping” Meghan by covering up heinous crimes, so I imagine that would be their line – they were doing her a favour by, er, protecting an alleged criminal who hurts children.

Or maybe Meghan the bully screamed at the poor KP staffers that they had better direct the police to lose that letter. And then, er, kept a copy of that letter and produced it later to help the police. It’ll be interesting to see what the KP “braintrust” comes up with, because I think they are cooked.

  18. tamra says:

I read somewhere that the FBI had opened a case about Tom.?

  19. ABritGuest says:

I’m sticking to my theory that Meghan was partially right that the letter came into KP in 2018. And the palace & at least some press knew or in the case of the press, at least partially knew about some of the content of the warning letter then. I think police sources leaked to the times back then. Allegedly the warning letter said that Thomas & another person (my guess Samantha) posed a risk to Harry, Meghan & Doria.

In December 2018 the times reported that Samantha markle had been placed on a fixated persons list. My guess is that the warning letter came in around then. After reassuring Meghan that it would be actioned, the police were told to get rid of the letter but place Samantha on the fixated persons list because at that point she had also flown to the uk & attended KP to hand a letter to Meghan.

As for why didn’t Rosalyn tell authorities in the USA I’m not sure we can say for sure that she didn’t. Thomas markle junior is a liar so I don’t trust what he says but he claims he approached the fbi in July with the material that is at the heart of the investigation now & didn’t hear back from them. And Rosalyn has a history of escalating to authorities over safety concerns which is how Samantha’s children were removed from her care & placed with Rosalyn. But also if she thought a particular risk was to h&M who were living in uk (and Doria) specifically & maybe because at that point Thomas was using threatening language in tv interviews about Meghan not speaking to him, it may be that she thought Uk authorities were best placed to deal with it.

Obviously the focus should be on Thomas markle & if he has committed heinous crimes. However it is also important for the Met’s failure to refer the warning letter to the relevant local police bodies to be highlighted especially as they regarded it as serious enough to even show Meghan & Harry. The bbc has a police expert on discussing the normal protocol in these cases

It is a failure in safe guarding & it will be very grave if allegations against Thomas turn out to be true & worse still if he was involved in any offences since 2018/19. Any suggestion of a cover up involving the palace would also be very serious too

I also get the impression that Meghan provided the correct date—2018. After all, documentation of this kind is kept—especially by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex—so I assume she would have been able to verify the date. On the other hand, perhaps no such record existed at all, which allowed the police (the Met Police) to provide a date that was more convenient for them.
When they had to retract their claims that they had never received such a letter—only to be promptly flooded with copies of it :)))—and subsequently suggested a date (January 2019), Meghan simply stated that if that was what the police claimed, she would accept it. It sounded as though she knew the truth herself but saw no reason to argue over a matter of a few months, given that it wasn’t the most important point. The crucial issue is that the police received this information 7–8 years ago and DID NOTHING; it is also significant that Meghan brought this matter to light—so, rather than gaining ammunition to use against her, they effectively handed her an advantage on a silver platter.

  20. CSC says:

Meghan did everything correctly – so the media need to STFU about her. I smell a cover up. The Met police also need to be investigated. Just appalling that they did not refer this on to other authorities at that time.

  21. Lady Digby says:

BBC news now reporting that the police watchdog, the IOPC will consider why the Met did not share the contents of the letter with other law enforcement agencies, in the UK or overseas.

The policing watchdog also said it had decided a further matter, relating to an alleged data breach in which information was passed on to a third party, “should be returned to the force to be appropriately dealt with”. No details were provided about the circumstances of the alleged breach.

Note reference to information being passed to a third party being investigated by the Met as an alleged data breach!?
    Which third party?

    • Interested Gawker says:

      Exactly, which third party?

Sunlight is the best disinfectant. These same disingenuous people crying about’ Why didn’t Meghan do more’ would waste no time insisting she was aiding, abetting or warning her father had the BM/KP minions gotten a photo of them together. Don’t let them wriggle out of the frame.

      • Lady Digby says:

How despicable of the MET not to forward letter onto FBI andor relevant other country law enforcement and then have alleged data breach in which information was passed on to a third party!? Does that imply that in addition to not forwarding letter for investigation and action to law enforcement to stop a predator from abusing other children, someone at the Met maybe passed on the information to a tabloid for payment!? Isn’t that corruption? Why would police watchdog decide MET are the right people to self investigate this data breach!?

    • Magdalena says:

Is this how the Sun and ITV managed to “see” the letter which M generously and graciously provided to the Met after they attempted to gaslight her?

  22. Lady Digby says:

You could NOT make this up, the Fail are now sanctimoniously reporting that they have reported T Markle to the FBI as they found child pornography in his rented storage lockup in New Mexico!!

    • Interested Gawker says:

There is no way in Hell the fail is going to let Murdoch get away with chaining all this to them alone, they are all snakes. If they rubbish Tom Jr., the sun’s principal, after the sun blew up DM’s exclusivity with the dad, it’s payback as far as the DM is concerned.

    • Deborah1 says:

Actually it was found in a lockup rented by Markle Snr in Rosarito, Mexico where he was living until he decamped to the Philippines with Junior. It contains a similar stash to that which has been found in the Philippines. He had not paid the rental fees since 2024 but the stuff was still there. The FBI has now been informed although I’m not sure what they can do because it is under Mexican jurisdiction.

    • Eurydice says:

The DM say they were “granted access” to the storage unit. Does that mean they paid the back rental fees? How did they even know about the unit? They also say they are “sickened” – Dudes, you’ve been feeding this monster for years.

      • BeanieBean says:

        Sanctimonious b*stards.

      • Interested Gawker says:

That DM reporter was bolted on to his side, she’s up to her neck in this.

      • Lady Digby says:

Daily Mail reporters on this story are credited as
By GREG WOODFIELD IN ROSARITO, MEXICO and BEN ASHFORD IN ROSARITO, MEXICO
So not Caroline Graham: are they are still paying her to act as TMarkle handler? Another exclusive interview with TMarkle over the weekend!? Or will she perform a Reverse Ferret with Caroline Graham throwing him under the bus and admitting to DOUBTS about her father figure? Sure to be nauseating and hypocritical of the Mail whatever approach they take. After years of weaponizing this rancid old coot to batter his daughter’s reputation, can they really admit to funding a possible serial predator via regular interview fees!?

      • Jais says:

Whoever they are crediting for the story, it’s hard to imagine they are just now accessing this storage unit. But hey, who knows. That’s their story.

      • Interested Gawker says:

“she’s up to her neck in this”

“This” meaning Graham’s general interaction with Bad Dad as liaison for DM all this time, not the present locker article.

      • Interested Gawker says:

“it’s hard to imagine they are just now accessing this storage unit. But hey, who knows. That’s their story.”

DM did run a story in 2017 interviewing a Mexican storage unit owner renting TM a unit so a motley crew of DM folk were sniffing around that sort of stuff even then.

  23. BeanieBean says:

So many people knew! And did nothing!:
    – The Metropolitan Police/Fixated Threat Assessment Centre
    – Royal Protection Office [clerical staff, RPOs]
    – The joint office [clerical staff, mailroom, personal secretaries] of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Kensington Palace

So yesterday’s ‘handed the letter to Meghan’ was utter bullsh*t, as I thought.

  24. Lady Digby says:

The Guardian today report The scale of embarrassment for the Met will depend on whether investigators in the Philippines assess that the allegations relating to child sexual abuse images have any credence.
Who cares about whether the MET now face “embarrassment” as by their INACTION more children may have been put at risk of abuse if the allegations contained in the letter are true! M ET are law enforcement who are duty bound to forward serious allegations of active child abuse offending to the relevant authorities where the alleged crimes were taking place.
An ACTIVE investigation is now taking place into T Markle belongings by the relevant authorities and that should have happened in 2019 .

  25. Samipup says:

I’m sure they checked their computer files when this news came out. Downloading documents was invented before 2018. Of course the Met had the letter, just not the hard copy.
