Rosamund Pike in Roland Mouret at the BAFTAs: boring or beautiful?

Rosamund Pike has started to impress me with the sheer fact that she’s an utter style omnivore. She has not repeated a designer at any major event during the awards season, and she’s sprinkled in designers from America, Britain, Italy and France. At last night’s BAFTAs, she went with a simple Roland Mouret gown in black. While the gown isn’t “Look at me, look at me!!” I still like it. Mostly because it’s the prettiest and most flattering thing she’s worn in months.

Dame Kristin Scott Thomas (yes, she’s a Dame now!) wore this vintage 1948 Balmain haute couture gown. I mean, it’s a beautiful dress. And I love that she wore honest-to-God vintage. But this black dress doesn’t stand out at all.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw in Prada. This is the unfortunate “signature” of Prada gowns, and how I knew this was a Prada gown before I even saw the ID: terrible, horrible, borderline obscene darting on the bust. Remember Anne Hathaway’s Prada gown at the Oscars a few years ago? And all anyone could talk about was her #DartFail? Yeah. That happened with poor Gugu in this dress too. If Prada could design a dress bust worth a damn, this would actually be one of my favorite looks of the night.

Here’s Sam Claflin and his wife Laura Haddock. She’s wearing a princessy Ashi Couture gown. People on Twitter loved it, but I found it underwhelming. I’m sure I would have loved it on Lupita, but Lupita would have worn it differently, you know?

She looks just like she did in 4 Weddings… but the Dame for the win!

  2. qwerty says:

She looks great, statuesque, reminds me of Charlize Theron. But she lacks character to pull such a simple look off completely.

Rosamund has such a lovely smile.

Those Prada darts are awful but intentional on the part of the designer. Why? I have no answer for that. Prada is weird. What’s weirder still is that actresses choose wear it time and time again.

And I get this is Prada fault but.. why couldn’t she wear a bra??

actually I think I see some round shapes under the dress so those are probably cups like the ones we put in smaller busted clients gowns when I worked at a bridal shop. She is so lean up too that I doubt she was flopping around and those points are not her nipples. In any case, I like the Color and trim but not the ruching on the thighs so the darts aren’t the only thing wrong here

I’m sure she is wearing a bra. You’re not seeing nipples, you’re seeing the darts. The darts are sewn completely wrong and shouldn’t be folded over into a point like that.

The ladies in the above photos all look lovely.

But….I do feel that next award season Rosamund needs to find a new stylist, her clothes were ok, but nothing brought out the best in her and she is one stunning lady.

Kristen looks so classic, timeless, lovely.

Maybe if Laura Haddock’s gown wasn’t the color of bile…

  8. FLORC says:

Haddock looks lovely and i love the dress except for the sleeves. They just make her arms look old and wrinkled.
I can’t stand those bust folds/darts. You’d think a fashion house would know some fabrics fail to drape and fold smoothly. I hope it wasn’t on purpose.

Sadly, that is the point… is to make them obvious. Those darts are only pronounce like that, intentionally.

    Still a pretty gown.

I loved the vintage black gown of Kristin Scott Thomas. That is how one wears a deep V neck gown and it looks divine.

Now if some half wit stylist in LA, had gotten the vintage gown for a red carpet. It would have been a disaster. It would have ended up on a random actress with her tits taped up to her chin. And pushed out of that V.

I like Rosamunde’s, but then again anything is a step up from what she wore to the Golden globes.
Kristin looks great, and I like Laura’s dress.

The entire bodice of the Prada is a mess, and it makes the whole thing look cheap.

  11. scout says:

Dame Thomas looks fabulous, Rosamund looks lot better than before.

  12. Merritt says:

This is the best red carpet look Rosamund has had. This is not my favorite neckline, on anyone, but considering some of her past red carpet looks, I can let that go.

  13. Tig says:

Agree with the Prada dress- it looks like thumbtacks are in the bodice- it’s so disconcerting! KST looked divine- I so wish I could wear my hair like that!

  14. Diana B says:

Kristin Scott Thomas for the win!

  15. daughter of jean says:

    Kristin wins!

  16. ican'tsnap says:

DAME Kristin Scott Thomas looks fabulous!!

  17. icerose says:

They all look OK but nothing shines

  18. Ozzy says:

Sam’s wife’s arms looks old as hell. That layer of fabric (when bunched up) looks like she has the skin of an old woman. It should not be worn on a person with her skin tone.
