Sia & Maddie Ziegler attended the Grammys: amazing or enough already?

I looked at this list of stragglers, randoms and weirdos and I just thought to myself “How about I make The Most Random Person Ever, Sia, the hostess for this particular post?” Sia attended the Grammys with Maddie Ziegler, the young dancer Sia has now put in two of her music videos. Are we supposed to talk about fashion? I don’t think fashion is the point of Sia. Sia also performed “Chandelier” with help from Maddie and Kristen Wiig.

Were you into it? I like the song – and I do love Sia’s amazing voice and “Elastic Heart” is my latest gym song – but this performance made me feel like I was on drugs. I have to give it to Maddie though, that young woman COMMITS.

More randoms… here’s someone named Bleona. Totally.

Ciara in Alex Vauthier. The E! people loved it but I wasn’t crazy about it. I mean, if you’re going to wear a crazy puffball dress, commit to it. Don’t try to make it high fashion.

Jessie J looked great in this Ralph & Russo. Very pretty, great voice, but she really doesn’t get much press here in the US.

Random thy name is Ashanti. She wore Michael Costello. It is BAD. Like, really bad.

Toni Braxton in Marc Bouwer. GURL NO. This looks so cheap!!!!

And finally, here’s Nicole Kidman in Thierry Mugler. She was really out-of-it on the red carpet. It made me wonder if she’s self-medicating.

I love them so much. I have anxiety and body dysmorphia so I don’t like being photographed and would probably do the same thing Sia did lol.

    • Someonestolemyname says:

I love LOVE love Sia, truly talented singer.

Nicole Kidman’s hair is amazing and she looks gorgeous.

Tony Braxton is Absolutely Stunning. is she a Vampire, woman just does not age. Beautiful. Wow

Lady Gaga, probably wants Sia’s wig. Lol

      Sia, I love it!

      • Felice says:

Nah Gaga is all elegant and Old Timey Hollywood now. She’ll be back though.

      • Lindy79 says:

After seeing Kidman on Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago she’s warmed right back up to me. Ive never seen her so open and able to laugh at herself, granted she doesn’t do many interviews but still.

      • Mixtape says:

Sia is who Gaga pretends to be.

  2. Erinn says:

I like Nicole’s hair like that.

Maddie is so cute. I know dance moms is a terrible show, but it’s one of those trash tv things I got sucked into a while back. She (and her sister) seem sweet. They try REALLY hard. I hope she doesn’t end up over working and burning out – that girl has talent for days.

    • kcarp says:

Does this mean Abby is going to put Maddie on the top of the pyramid this week? I mean she did go to the Grammys…..ha ha

  3. Kiddo says:

It’s the Grammys not the Academy awards. The HAIR IS EVERYTHING and Ciara’s dress was incredibly interesting. But lol @ Toni Braxton’s Dagger of Doom dress.

  4. Lindy79 says:

What the hell was Kristen Wiig doing?

    • Sayrah says:

Lol, my husband and I spent the whole performance arguing over whether it was Kristin Wiig or not. I know she wants to be taken seriously but performance art??

      • perplexed says:

Is Kristen Wiig a trained dancer? I couldn’t tell if she was good at dancing as the little girl but I was shocked she knew how to dance like that at all.

  5. Kelly says:

As far as I’m concerned, Sia can do anything she wants. She is talented and authentic. She is the anti-Miley. Why shouldn’t she show up with a collaborator, especially one so gifted and adorable?

I like Kidman’s dress here and love the shoes. Everyone else is scaring me here. Why are they all dressed like mall bridesmaids at a 30th reunion of high school prom? Yuck.

  6. tifzlan says:

Love Sia. Love, love, love her.

  7. Cheryl says:

I love Sia, but enough already, tired of this.

    • lucy2 says:

I love her as well, but I too am tired of this performance. I think I’ve seen it too many times (and I don’t even watch that much music related stuff).

  8. mari says:

Nicole Kidman looks fantastic! Has she had some corrective surgery on her top lip? It looks much better and less slug-like than in a loooong while. The bob is really flattering too.

  9. OriginalTessa says:

Maddie really impresses me. She understands the character that she’s playing and she commits to it. She’s really got an edge when she’s performing, and is able to nail the emotions and odd behavior that is expected in her performances. I like her, and I love Sia. She’s great.

  10. Apsutter says:

    LOOOOOVE Nicole’s shoes!!

  11. Tifygodess24 says:

I was shocked when I found out it was Kristen Wig on stage. I had no idea! The performance was so strange I really didn’t get it but I’m not too familiar with Sia’s videos.

  12. QQ says:

Sia Is VERY VERY shy and private and has had drugs/alcohol and depression issues so whatever gets her through! I happen to think the capes on Both of them were very chic… and Also segue way but Between Blue, Sebastian and this girl how many CHILDREN like little little were in this thing???

    Also Liked Ciara’s dress

During her performance with Tom Jones I saw Jessie J’s hair and it looked like a goddamned stiff helmet

Also was Ashanti someone’s Plus one??

    • Amy says:

      This though.

It makes me sad that someone with anxiety issues who does put out amazing music is essentially being told, “You’re not fitting in so stop.”

im actually so impressed by her strength to show up to something like this and take the mocking for obscuring her face just so she can sing. We shouldn’t keep pushing people who struggle with issues out of the art fields and society.

      • Marty says:

Just to add to what you and QQ wrote. Sia also has Graves disease which effects the muscles in her face and she is extremely self conscious about it, which is why she covers her face a lot.

    • MaiGirl says:

      Was Ashanti someone’s Plus one??

      Ooooooh, the shaaaaaaade! 🙂

If you really want to party, google her performing I Will Always Love You at the David Foster thing last year. It is so cringeworthy, it’s EPIC!

  13. littlestar says:

Both Nicole Kidman and Ariana Grande were on something on the red carpet last night. Maybe they shared before doing interviews? Keith Urban look the worse out of all of them up there, I just do not get what anyone sees in him.

  14. Nanea says:

I’m not a NicKid apologist, but she’s just come back from the Berlinale Film Festival, so her out-of-it look could be jet lag.

  15. JosieJ says:

I think Nicole Kidman looked gorgeous. I love her hair.

  16. Jen43 says:

I saw Maddie and company compete a few months ago because my tween daughters are huge fans. It really struck me, though, how young she is. Those videos with her make me a bit uncomfortable because of her age. She has tremendous talent, tough. I hope she and her little sister and all Abby’s girls turn out okay.

  17. serena says:

That little girl is adorable (and super super talented!)! 🙂

  18. Amy says:

There was a great write up about Sia last year in the NY Times magazine just around the time Chandelier was released. She refused to be photographed for the article. She had a very hard time dealing with fame and touring and dealing with substance abuse, seriously contemplating suicide. Her first love was also hit by a car in London and killed in the late 90s and this also profoundly affected her. So she went into hiding for a few years and became a songwriter for other singers–Diamonds for Rihanna, Perfume for Britney Spears, Titanium for David Guetta (which she didn’t realize he would also use her vocals for that track and got really mad). She cranks out pop songs at a ridiculous pace, she’s kind of a genius in that regard. So when it came time to make another album, she decided to do it on her terms. No touring, very few interviews and live performances. It is a weird experiment but she says she doesn’t get hounded by paparazzi and can go out and about because she rarely shows her face in public.

Though I have to think Lady Gaga probably wishes she thought of this stunt first. It’s up her alley.

    • lucy2 says:

I think she’s a great songwriter, and I can fully understand having a hard time with the attention and wanting to be able to go out without being stalked (I used to wonder if that was part of Gaga’s schtick, that she could take the costumes off and go to Target if she wanted). But it makes me wonder why she does it at all then – why go on the Grammy red carpet? Why agree to perform on SNL and stuff? It feels a little gimmicky to me, but maybe that’s just how she’s dealing with it and trying to branch out. I don’t know.

      • Amy says:

        Maybe because she wants to?

That’s the conflict of the issue. You want to go and see things and experience the world but you also want to be invisible. Like, “Hey can I just get my magical invisible cape back from Harry Potter?”

Her response is the most realistic thing to me as someone who usually wants to attend things but doesn’t because I still don’t want attention on myself.

    • esthetix says:

Thanks for leading me to the NY Times article. A very good read.
I like Sia. I think she’s very talented. Her songs are amazing; her voice is so beautiful and emotive. I don’t mind that she’s private. But the more I see her the less I like her. Why does she has to be so precious with everything? It’s hard to bring abstract things, like the pain of addiction and depression, to a physical medium. I think it’s better to go more subtle because it’s very easy to accidentally get melodramatic or pretentious. I mean, she had a mime on stage with her during her SNL performance! Also, she associates herself with shia labeouf, who is like the ultimate faux-intellectual “artist”.

    • Diana B says:

I actually apreciate that Sia mantains the mistery, It keeps us focused on the music which is as it should be.

  19. Katie says:

    Ciara is stunning!

  20. z says:

    ENOUGH ALREADY!

  21. Cinderella says:

Honestly, when I first heard Sia, I pictured her being much younger than she is. She’s very talented, no doubt, but in the pop world, I wonder if her age plays a role in her being so reserved.

  22. YummyMummy says:

I must admit. I watched euros of Hollywood. Bleona was on there. I actually liked her performance on that show.

  23. Jess says:

Nicole looked great and I love Ciara’s dress – tons of fun and very pretty. Perfect for the Grammys!

    • deehunny says:

Ciara is a big fashion girl too. I’m not crazy about this dress but I give her credit for always trying something different. Plus she knows what flatters her body.

  24. Caz says:

I’m just pleased someone as talented as Sia is so successful without being a fame/attention seeker.

  25. Nan says:

Big YESSSS to Sia and Maggie. !!

I usually don’t care swan-interpretations but this is actually good.

  26. Dash says:

Sia used to be a little more public back when her career was restricted to Australia – she’d do award show red carpets and appear in her music videos. But she negotiated a record deal that didn’t involve any press obligations or touring so she really is doing this on her own terms. She likes being unrecognisable, although I do think she’d get recognised to some extent if she came back to Aus for long periods of time, we know what she looks like!
