Iggy Azalea in Armani Prive at the Grammys: nice dress, bad hair?

Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea scooped several awards over the past year. She was fully prepared to win last night at the Grammys and made a pre-announcement against the oncoming backlash. Iggy told MTV News, “Success is polarizing and you just can’t have one without the other. That’s something that comes with it. It’s the price you pay for having all the amazing things that you’re afforded and if that is the price you pay for a Grammy, I will sign that check.” Except … oops. Iggy didn’t win anything. How embarrassing. Eminem won best rap album (he won’t win anything next year – Shady XV is dreadful).

Iggy’s look was some scroll-up fug. Her dress was Armani Prive and beautiful on its own. The cornflower blue silk hugged Iggy’s figure all over, and not even the cutouts could distract from the spot-on tailoring. Her hair was another matter. What was she thinking with a crown of braids? This is the Grammys, not a toga party. Iggy’s hair ruined the whole ensemble. She should have kept it loose and saved her “backlash” announcement for an actual win.

Nicki Minaj looked gorgeous in this Tom Ford gown. The neckline was plunging, and Nicki had her girls out of course. This was still a sophisticated look (for her) and better than all the fluorescent garbage she used to wear. Nicki’s sleek hair and dead-on stare drew attention away from the gladiator sandals. Yeah, bad shoes. But this is a win for Nicki.

Rita Ora went for a glamorous space-girl aura in this semi-sheer silver Prada gown. This isn’t the worst look we’ve seen on Rita, but it’s all so bright. The gown’s color and the too-blonde hair work together to wash her out. The smokey eye helps a little, but the whole look is a wash.

Speaking of awful. Jane Fonda wore a green and gold Balmain jumpsuit. This outfit sends a 1970s vibe, which is fine if that’s what she was going for. Jane wore Jimmy Choo pumps and Vhernier jewels.

I cannot express how much I dislike Iggys music. Every time it’s on the radio, like being punched in the stomach, I flinch and turn it off. I hope her 15 minutes are up soon.

    • Sarah says:

Exactly. I was so glad she didn’t win anything last night and even happier that she wasn’t even asked to perform.

      • BaeOnBoard says:

Oh, man, that was the only reason I tuned in! I was SO happy when Best New Artist and all the others she was up for went to someone – anyone – other than her.

  2. scout says:

The Hair! Weirdly good. Nicky Minaj looks great.

    • kaligula says:

Should she have dressed it up a bit somehow? With some subtle but shiny hair accessories? It would be cool for a hipster-type wedding but for a major televised awards ceremony it is not quite a home run.

      Nicki though– BOOM!!!

    • tekla says:

Somewhere online I’ve seen someone describe this ‘do as a Top Ramen. While the hair is fine, I find the name hilarious :]

  3. Dani2 says:

Iggy was having a Twitter war with Papa John’s pizza before heading over to the Grammy’s. She has so few redeemable qualities. Her hair is ridiculous and a lot of people were relieved that she didn’t win last night.

    • TRJ says:

I won’t fault her too much for the Papa John’s thing – apparently one of their delivery drivers gave her personal information out to friends and family, and the company wasn’t doing much to remedy the situation.

      • Leona says:

Its a totally silly reaction to have. She spent the evening of the only grammy award ceremony shes ever going to be nominated at, tweefing over an issue that the company had already apologised for and was looking into.

We dont know how this sibling got the number, if he gave it to her or if she stole it. But lets assume he gave it to her, isnt the normal thing to do to call the management, whats with the tweeting? And sure, its upsetting to have your details passed on like that but seriously, this must happen to celebs all the damn time. Thats why you use throwaways for errands like this. And when your number leaks, you just replace it. This is a hazard of the job.

And why is she demanding that they send her pics of their delivery guys so that she could pick him out, why would she need to do that? Of course there are records on who delivers what and where. They dont need her to identify him, they know who he is. But Iggy is not happy unless she is squabbling. She probably wanted to post his face online or something.

Still on Iggys squabbling, I had to go to her twitter to see how this mess played out and while there I spotted some really shady comment she put out there but “an intern” who is tasked with tweeting on her behalf. I cant even remember the most diva of artists doing something like that. This woman doesnt know how to handle her business behind the curtains. Its probably because she is as classless as she is shameless.

Azalea’s dress… Meh. It fits perfectly but the bottom cutout ruined it.

Rita Ora’s dress looked like a walking hall of mirrors but she carried it off.

    I thought Minaj looked godawful.

Jane Fonda — the jumpsuit is dreadful but damn, her body is bangin’ for 77.

    • chaine says:

I loved the dress-color-fit-everything, until I got to the cutout. The hair is terrible. It looks like some kind of Russian winter hat.

    • Pandy says:

I agree except I really dislike the “burka bottom” on Iggy’s dress. It looks like it should have been a head cover and the netting is the eye part.

      • lucy2 says:

Yeah, I was even ok with the cutouts at the top, until I saw that one in the skirt. Ruined a pretty dress.
I don’t like her hair like that. There are some people who look better with their hair down, and she seems to be one of them.

      • deehunny says:

@lucy2– this may be a stupid question, but do the stars have the ultimate say on the tailoring? Meaning could she say to them, Please hem where the bottom cutout begins?

I know some pieces are borrowed so I’m unsure.

  5. samanthalous says:

Whoever decided on this style needs to be fired.

  6. Kiddo says:

The ‘someone sat on my head’ hair trend continues. In this case, it might have been a Bowerbird.

Jane Fonda is channeling the Batman comic strip Joker.

  7. lower-case deb says:

i’m torn between calling the dress glamor space girl and glamor disco ball.

  8. MP says:

I love the color of Iggy’s dress and that somehow it doesn’t look trashy. Good tailoring and right size perhaps? Kim K should take a note.
    The hair though… No.

  9. Jen43 says:

What was Jane Fonda doing there? I kind of like her look. Madonna should take notes because I can’t imagine how she will dress when she is Jane’s age.

  10. QQ says:

Nicki looked amazing in the face and hair.. That dress SUUUCCKKKEEDD because of the fringe situation and because the boob holster material looked soooo cheap and Home ec in HD that is almost looked like Jacket Lining material

Also The Absolute Cackles I got out of Iggy Slander on twitter someone was like:

She said: Alright fam… F*ck my hair and makeup up!

“… Her hairstylist walked away with a joyful smirk and then she removed the mask and it was revealed : AZEALEA BANKS!!”

And People photoshopped Pigeons and easter eggs on that with a Lightning speed quickness

Jane lookes pretty damned fancy, good and age appropriate (Hi Madonna!!)

Rita and this terrible almost about to fall out hair and the corresponding thirst… *sigh*

  11. Anna says:

Iggy’s dress is nice but her hair is hideous. The jokes about her hair last night were hilarious, there were so many of them. I’m so glad she didn’t win but Eminem winning really wasn’t any better.
Nicki looked amazing and I wish she could win some Grammys.

    • WardLittell says:

Huh, more cultural appropriation, Iggy? 😉
That Eva Braun barnet looks like a ritual hairdo for some aristocratic women’s religious sect in Ancient Rome, possibly for balancing a basket of ceremonial geese/sacred ciabatta/Swan Vesta matches. Fuglius maximus est.

  12. db says:

I actually liked Rita Ora’s look. to my eye, she pulled off the platinum hair because there is a enough contrast with her eyes and skin tone, and the color itself doesn’t clash with any of that either. And silver is a good color on her for the same reason. Lips could have been a bit warmer color. I’ve really come to hate washed out, colorless lips.

  13. Diana says:

Is that a spot/stain on Iggy’s dress? Or just a shadow from the camera. Either way, her hair looks hardcore fug.

Also glad she didn’t win. There seems to be a dearth of nice, rootable pop stars out there right now. They all seem like unlikeable, fame-hungry monsters (Rihanna being the kind-of-sort-of exception, maybe?)…

    • Dream Big says:

I just saw that spot on another dress. So I’m thinking it’s not on the actual dress itself! Lol that bothered me too!

  14. MarcelDeux says:

People are so mean to Iggy. Leave the poor woman alone.

  15. Wonderbunny says:

The hair is kind of Yulia Tymoshenko meets Game of Thrones, and still manages to be rather “meh”.

I like Nicki Minaj without the extreme makeup. She has a very beautiful face.

I don’t like it when people try to channel their inner disco ball.

Jane Fonda looks fabulous. Even though I kind of hate the jumpsuit, I simultaneously love it on her. Must be the seventies vibe that can give that “I hate it, but I love it…on someone else” feeling. I also think that with her frame and height, she can carry a look like that, but imagine that on Kim Kardashian…

    • Wonderbunny says:

I had never knowingly heard anything from Iggy Azalea, so I looked for some music videos in YouTube. She’s actually won awards? She is incredibly “meh”. Like Mattel had decided to make a Pop Rap Barbie.

I always did expect that when I get older, I will not understand the music the youngsters will listen to, but I never expected it was because it sounds so incredibly lame.

  16. klaas says:

Am I the only one who thinks Iggy’s hair is kinda cool?

  17. Bridget says:

I love Rita’s dress. It’s so sparkly and shiny!!

  18. OriginallyBlue says:

Her hair looks stupid and I don’t understand the cutout at the bottom. Looks like some did it accidentally and the threw some sheer panelling on it to “fix it”

  19. Cynthia says:

Lmao I felt bad for her. The dress is cute but those hair!! What was her hairdresser thinking? And LOL at her anticipating the Grammys backlash.
    Nicki looked stunning in black!

  20. Dotty says:

Everything about Jane Fonda’s look says “my expiration date was in the 70s”. Why was she even there?

  21. kri says:

I was surprised that Icky’s dress was almost halfway semi-decent. Minaj is beautiful, but that dress fit all wrong. I don’t like Jane Fonda’s outfit(jumpsuits scare me-I don’t want no mooseknuckles staring at me) but her body is crazy. Rita Ora…..sigh. WTF, girl?

  22. smee says:

Iggy’s braids almost work, but the front is too low and straight (and fake looking) on her forehead. The dress is a dream until you get to the Shin Viewing Area. Nicki’s beaded “car wash” fringe looks a million times better if you must work that look.

I hate the cut, fit and color of Jane Fonda’s jumpsuit. I get that she looks great for her age, but she wears terrible stuff sometimes……

  23. Felice says:

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo
Loud was the voice of the lonely goatherd
Lay ee odl lay ee odl-oo

  24. Neelyo says:

Hair would maybe work on someone else, but it draws too much attention to her face.

  25. Lucy says:

I have realized that Iggy has no idea how to “work” gowns, or any other formal attires for that matter. She just limits to put them on, show up to the event and that’s it.

  26. Rachel says:

I wonder how close to Jane Fonda and Madonna are in age, can’t be that big of a diff right???? Crazy the difference in how they dress and compose themselves… When I grow up, will I be a Fonda or a Madonna?!!

  27. emma says:

    GET it Jane!

  28. Bread and Circuses says:

I actually kind of like Iggy’s hair and makeup. They make her look like some kind of otherworldly Greek oracle. It’s both weird and ethereal.

  29. Who iis that bobblehead in the leprechaun suit?

  30. Goodnight says:

I think Jane Fonda looks utterly gorgeous! I don’t love the outfit but she rocks it.
