2015 Oscars Open Post: Hosted by Meryl Streep’s 19th Oscar nomination

wenn22000116

Here is your 2015 Oscars Open Post, hosted by Meryl Streep. Meryl is a nominee tonight for Into the Woods, mostly because Meryl pretty much gets nominated for anything at this point. I’m not saying she hasn’t deserved some of these nominations, but at this point it really is like the Academy just nominates her by rote whenever she has a new film. Anyway, Meryl isn’t going to win this year (she’s going to lose to Patricia Arquette) and she seems fine with it. Meryl has barely campaigned for her historic 19th Oscar nomination.

Meryl will also be a presenter, probably because she wants the amazing Oscar swag bag – go here to read all of the crazy stuff included. There are trips to Tuscany and the Canadian Rockies, $800 worth of custom candy, a year’s worth of car rentals, and a personalized horoscope and dream analysis done by a professional. You can see the slideshow of this year’s presenters here – Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Hart, Chris Pine, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Lopez, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Liam Neeson, Idris Elba, Jennifer Aniston and more are going to get this Oscar swag bag. Hot.

We’ll be posting this evening with the major winners (Supporting and lead acting categories, plus a post for Director and Picture) and tomorrow will be full-on fashion coverage. Who will be the worst dressed? Please don’t let it be Julianne Moore, that would break my heart. Who will be the best dressed? Cate Blanchett, probably. Enjoy this Open Post and CB, Bedhead and I will all be tweeting!

Here is Celebitchy’s Twitter. Here is mine (KaiseratCB). Here is Bedhead’s Twitter (BedheadatCB).

  1. lisa2 says:

I want those glasses she is wearing.

I think her nomination was not warranted. It would have been nice if another actress had that spot. I see the arrivals have started.

  2. Abbott says:

Anna Kendrick was one of the first on the red carpet so I’m assuming she’s singing in NPH’s opening act. NPH hasn’t even started and I’m tired of his schtick.

    • **sighs** says:

She looks pretty and yes, I’m already tired of NPH as well.

    • Bridget says:

Is it because he’s already hosted everything else? He’s capable, but not a very fresh choice.

    • Kiddo says:

The Golden Globes are better than the Oscars. The Oscar presentation is usually laborious and boring.

    • Gemma13 says:

      Agree 100%

    • Amber says:

Ooh, you’s a hater. Can you wait for me and my mother to get our drinks so we can come sit by you? We were just saying yesterday how tired we are of NPH, (and we used to love him, or I did at least). Like, pay Hugh Jackman to host every year. I’d rather see Steve Martin. I’d rather not have a host! (Is it a law? The damn show will be 30 minutes shorter.) And who does Jimmy Kimmel have to sleep with to get the gig? The only newcomers to the hosting game that I remember being impressed with in the last 15 years were Kimmel, Jackman and Conan O’Brien forever ago… Do you think NPH is going to get some magic tricks in there somewhere?

      • charlie says:

Chris Rock and Jon Stewart were the best hosts, IMO. Very funny, very political and made fun of celebrities. Perfection.

NPH will be fine. He can’t be worse than Ellen last year.

      • mimif says:

The only way you could get me to watch the Oscars is if Steve Martin was hosting.

      • Kiddo says:

Does it matter who hosts? There is no latitude for fun.

Zombie Richard Pryor. I watched him last night on old SNL, hilarious.

      • mimif says:

        Two words: BILL MURRAY.

      • Kiddo says:

YES, and in that crazy lounge singer tux that he wore on the 40th anniversary thing.

      • Bridget says:

Nope. It doesn’t matter who hosts. It will still be written by a committee headed by someone completely un-funny (does Bruce Vilanch still do it?) and every joke will be so neutered it’ll be the comedy equivalent of a Ken doll. Though at least we’ll probably never have to live through “We Saw Your Boobs” again, so that’s a plus.

      • mimif says:

Lol at Zombie Richard Pryor dual hosting with crazy lounge (not singing!) singer tux Bill Murray. There’s your lat long FUN coordinates right there. 😀

      • Amber says:

@Kiddo – Zombie Richard Pryor 😀 I almost included hologram Johnny Carson in my list of alternatives.

I totally, and I mean totally, forgot about Chris Rock and Jon Stewart. Both are perfect examples of how it’s a totally thankless and impossible task. If you try something new people don’t care. If you make waves it’s viewed as a failure or odd in some way. I could not STAND Ellen. And I don’t dislike her. That’s why it surprises me how much she’s been a fail each time to me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

OMG, Bill Murray MUST host next year just so he can do his lounge singer Star Wars song.

      • Ruth Dunbar says:

Can we start some campaign to get a Steve Martin/Martin Short tag team going for next year? Last night was painful.

    • Kiki04 says:

He’s one of those hosts where you know there will always be a song…….and I’m not really sure we need a song.

Makes me wish they’d let Ricky Gervais loose on the audience for 5 minutes, I’m sure it would be hilarious…….

    • kimmy says:

Anna looked really pretty for her. I expected more from her after that BAD ASS black suit she wore.

I wanted to punch Khloe for trashing her on E. Anna has more class than she will ever have….no matter what she is wearing!

  3. Shego says:

Bets on who’ll be the first obviously drunk presenter?

  4. Nayru says:

I hope no one minds me posting my 538 link to some Oscar predictions here too. I really like how thorough they are with trying to do stats and stuff.

    http://fivethirtyeight.com/datalab/a-data-driven-guide-to-the-oscars/

    In summary
    Director: Boyhood
    Actress: Julianne Moore
    Supporting Actor: JK Simmons
    Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette
    Actor: Eddie Redmayne
    Picture: Birdman

  5. paola says:

As much as I LOVE Meryl I wish that ‘Into the Woods’ ended 15 minutes into the film. Sooo boring.
I hate boring musicals. And that was a snooze fest.

And talking about the gift bag for Oscar presenters.. I’d gladly swap the trips to Tuscany ( I already live in Florence) and I’d be happy to trade it in for a $800 worth of custom candy. They’ll come in handy when Kim Kardashian will dump Kanye’s ass building a case for North’s custody based on his mental illness.
800$ worth of candy and popcorns will keep me entartained while the crap hits the fan.

    Anyway.
I’m rooting for Michael Keaton to win best Actor. And of course Julianne Moore.
    Birdman as Best Picture.

    edit: $250 Afterglow vibrator???
Oh man! they’re all going to fight over it!

  6. Bridget says:

People made a big deal about Patricia Arquette not being able to mess with her face through the 12 years of “Boyhood”. Having her sister Rosanna stand next to her just makes that point even more.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Is there a reason why she didn’t comb her hair tonight?

      • Bridget says:

The bangs in the eyes are really irritating. I wonder if its some passive aggressive siblings stuff – Rosanna was supposed to be the one to really ‘make it’. Or maybe its just bad taste.

  7. Bridget says:

There’s nothing like hearing Seacrest trying to get all manly talking to Common. “Bro”

  8. charlie says:

None of the Arquettes look good.
Meryl’s hair will probalby look awful, Meryl’s hair always looks awful.

Giulianna looks so much better with brown hair. Having watcherd Maria Menunos in her role made me realise how god Giulianna is as a red carpet interviewer.

    • lisa2 says:

I totally agree. never get why everyone has to go blond. She needs darker hair and I think she looks really lovely with that particular color. It does wonders for her. Makes her look younger and her face looks fuller too. I like the hair style as well. Much improved.

    • Kiki04 says:

The one thing I love about Meryl is that she knows she doesn’t need to try with these award shows any more. She can wear what she wants, do her hair how she wants, and just show up. If she gets another award, that’s great, if not, she’s got 3 to go home to 😉

      • paola says:

She’s awesome. She s the only person in that big room to be honestly happy if she doesn’t win. She still can enjoy the full Oscar experience from front row every year.

      • charlie says:

I think she said in an interview that it does sting a bit when she doesn’t win.
I find her hair so annoying, like Ariana-Grande-ponytail-level annoying. The part above her forehead. I wish she would get bangs.

  9. smee says:

Do any of you fashion people know who makes those black eyeglass frames she’s wear?!

  10. Allie says:

It gives me rage thinking of all the free stuff they get.

    • Tippy says:

What’s the tax liability on this bag of overpriced crap that they probably neither need or want?

Most of it probably gets auctioned off with the proceeds donated to charity.

      • Lilacflowers says:

They do get taxed for it.

      • Kiki04 says:

They probably gift it out……then they can write it off as who know what. Although who they’d give a vibrator to, I have no clue……

      • Joh says:

I once won a car and was taxed the amount the dealer paid for it.
They are probably taxed the wholesale cost, not retail.
If the swag is retaailed at $160,000 the tax liability is probably on
        $80,000.

  11. Reece says:

Love NPH’s gray tux and Lorelei Linklater is cute!

    • Bridget says:

She looked so uncomfortable, I felt bad for her. It looked like someone put her in heels that were too tall for her to get around in.

      • Reece says:

Yeah but she always looks a little awkward or more shy to me.
Plus she’s 20 and it’s her first big awards season. I’m glad she’s not wearing something her grandmother should wear.

      • Bridget says:

Her dress was adorable, and I think it’s entirely understandable that she’d be uncomfortable. You can just tell it’s the final, grand finale event of a very long awards season.

  12. lisa2 says:

Kevin Harts tux is horrible.. just HORRIBLE

  13. lisa2 says:

I think Faith Hill looks great.. This show you wear a low cut dress with long jewelry. She looks wonderful and I love her hair with that dress.

  14. **sighs** says:

I really hope Keaton is the upset win. And Birdman for pic and director. And anyone other than Arquette for supporting actress.

    • Kiki04 says:

I’m totally seconding that. I love Keaton, plus in my cynicism I was just not that into Eddie’s performance.

We need a little bit of excitement tonight, gotta have atleast one upset!

  15. savu says:

I just wanted to throw into the conversation that from what I read and from the few I did see, most of the movies were somehow flawed. Birdman lacked plot direction for a bit, Boyhood was a little long (and my mom thought it lacked a “culminating” plot point).

BUT. That being said. I was really torn between wanting Birdman and Boyhood to win for director and best picture. The more I think about it, Birdman was SO CAPTIVATING just because of how it was shot. I work in TV, and I was watching it with my parents going YOU GUYS THIS HAS BEEN ONE LONG TAKE. I BET THERE ARE TRICKS IN THERE BUT THIS IS INSANE. (Of course they don’t shoot and edit video for a living, so they were like shut up!) But Boyhood was a love child and passion project. That’s what I want to win best picture.

I’d also like to throw in there that although we KNOW Julianne will win and Rosamund Pike deserves some recognition, and Reese may not be super-up-there acting-wise, but Wild REALLY touched me. I’m sure it’s the source material because I bought Cheryl Strayed’s “Dear Sugar” after the movie and was in tears the entire time I read it. I was really moved by her story. And I really do believe Reese when she says she read it and HAD to do it. I don’t blame her. It was beautiful to me. I also saw the Fandango guy on E! say it was his favorite of the year, I appreciate that! I feel like it would either hit or miss people, but if it hit you, it HIT you.

  16. paola says:

Margot Robbie looks smashing. She’s my favorite so far.

  17. Kiddo says:

Don Cheadle was on Letterman the other night and told a really funny story about how much he hated going the Academy Awards. If you aren’t presenting or up for an award, he said you pay around $500 to go.

  18. charlie says:

Dakota Johnson looks good, Margot too, but I wish her lipstick was a bit darker.
Zendaya looks great, but why are so many c-listers there?

  19. Kaiser says:

Ava DuVernay tweeted this just before the Oscars and now I’m just so pissed off that David Oyelowo wasn’t nominated, Jesus Christ.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUciLijtwZA&feature=youtu.be

    • Kiddo says:

yep, and I guess it’s the wrong time to yell at you about Ethan Hawke.

    • Amber says:

Damn it Kaiser, why are you making me cry?

    • MtnRunner says:

He’s looking fine in wine tonight, I must say. Pissed as well about him being snubbed.

    • jen2 says:

In 20 years or so, he will be in a mediocre movie and get the Award for his career accomplishments, like Newman and Pacino. Too bad, because he really deserved it this time.

Can’t say he is afraid of color. Yesterday, blue, tonight a well tailored burgundy. Gorgeous, gorgeous man!!

      • Kiki04 says:

Ugh I hate the “we owe it to you” oscars. I wish the academy would just get their act together and give the most deserving actor the award when it’s their time. But this is the world we live in I guess……

  20. tifzlan says:

    Marion Cotillard looks absolutely beautiful!

    • Zippi says:

Agree. However I don’t like the earrings. I think they don’t compliment her face and don’t match the hairstyle.

    • charlie says:

Seriously? Her dress is one of the ugliest I’ve seen in a while. Her hair is awful too, and she always looks like she smelled something vile.
Felicity Jones doesn’t look any better either. Rosamund looks meh, too, her makeup is underdone and she’s making JLo’s sexy face again.
All the best actress nominees look awful this year, I mean there is little hope Reese or Julianne will look good, is there?

I hope Emma nad Kiera don’t dissapoint me.

    • Lucy2 says:

I didn’t love the dress but I like that it was fairly simple, at least from the front, and let her really shine.

  21. MtnRunner says:

Laura Dern has been firing on all cylinders this awards season and tonight is no exception. I like her the cut and gunmetal color and unique pattern. She looks like a warrior princess.

  22. InvaderTak says:

Harvey doesn’t give up does he?
    http://images.scribblelive.com/2015/2/22/43d29ec3-1911-4ea7-a5cf-99042c9db6c2_500.jpg
    Ick. Just stop already.

    • MtnRunner says:

It’s all over tonight, thank God. I’m so ready for the curtain on the BC/SH show to close.

  23. Inky says:

I kind of hate that E! cut away from Felicity Jones to Lupita, but Lupita!!! My God, you look perfect. How did you manage to top yourself from last year?

  24. savu says:

I know he did a lot of work for the movie and all, but his “classic Oscar campaign” all about the “this transformation was so difficult but what an honor I just got married Stephen Hawking is so amazing” has worn me out man. I’m SO sick of hearing about it. To be fair, I haven’t seen the movie, but does it completely whitewash their love story? Because I’m sorry, he REFUSED to let her get any kind of nurse for him, so she cared for him while getting her own degrees AND taking care of their kids. Hawking is known as an a-hole. A brilliant mind, but an a-hole.

    • Nimbolicious says:

Yeah, and then once she reached the breaking point after making all those sacrifices for all those years, and he finally relented and got a nurse, he went and dumped her for the nurse.

  25. Freshmeat says:

I wish Redmayne would stop doing that slightly hunched stance. I just want to straighten him up.

    • MtnRunner says:

YES! He does that every time! You’d think as a former model, he’d have better posture.

      Hannah’s dress is lovely.

    • paola says:

In his defence he looked really really nervous. He was clenching his wife’s hand and I’m sure he hurt her from squeezing it too hard.

    • hermi says:

It’s endearing that he’s naturally nervous. I hope he stays that way (natural). Lovely, lovely man.

  26. Reece says:

Ain’t NO WAY Chrissy Teigan isn’t freezing her everything off!

  27. savu says:

WOW Terrence Howard’s voice is ANNOYING.

  28. tracking says:

Didn’t get a good enough look at hair and makeup, but Pike looks stunning in a red gown fit to perfection.

  29. MtnRunner says:

Rosmund Pike looks AMAZEBALLS in that red dress. That’s the best thing she’s worn all season.

  30. paola says:

Awwww Julianne. WTF are you wearing???
    Disappointment at its peak!

  31. InvaderTak says:

Can we get some real red carpet hosts one day? Osborn and Seacrest are the worst.

    • Inky says:

Ugh I know, could they get it sorted? I tried to watch the Sky (UK) coverage and it was even worse.

    • Kiddo says:

Now the Kardashian who resembles Kirstie Alley. No red carpet needs commentary from a Kardashian EVER.

      • paola says:

        Why are they even there???

      • Inky says:

Also, that dress on Khloe looks awful. Plus, she complained about Anna Kendrick? She looks amazing…jealous much?

      • Kiddo says:

        Thought the same.

      • Cricket says:

Khloes dress looks like they took a lot of the red velvet from the dollar star Christmas bows. And wtf with the hand in the pocket and also design looks like a robe that isn’t wide enough in the hips/ass.

      • Kiddo says:

I intended no insult to Kirstie Alley, she’s still kind of pretty, it was just the hair and stuff.

@Inky, Anna Kendrick’s body looked incredible in that dress

      • Lucy2 says:

Khloe said 2 different dresses weren’t right for the Oscars. I may have yelled “neither are you, you reality tv trash!”

      • Joh says:

Low is starting to look like Rosie O’Donnell.

    • Kiki04 says:

The worst is that people like Osborn actually think they have a good opinion on fashion. And actually have fashion lines. Can’t stand her…….

  32. jen2 says:

So far I like Rosamund–beautiful color and fit. She apparently saved the best for last; Naomi Watts–fits beautifully and is different and Lupita…well, because she is Lupita and it fits her to perfection and she is wearing it with confidence.

Moore’s dress washes her out though it fits well, she needs color and she has that forced smile again, Cotillard–not feeling it and Teigen is trying too hard.

    Love JK Simmons.

  33. charlie says:

    Sienna Miller looks amazing.
Lupita matched her eyeshadow to the dress, because of course she did.
    Kerry Washingotn – just no.
All hail queen Cate, looking perfect as per usual.

  34. What says:

    Felicity’s dress is amazingg

  35. MtnRunner says:

Lupita is hitting it out of the ballpark, as usual.

  36. paola says:

Rita Ora looks great. And for once she doesn’t look as if she needs a shower.

  37. Jayna says:

Why is a Kartrashian on E critiquing the gowns on the red carpet? LOL

  38. MeloMelo says:

I had no idea Dakota Johnson’s mom was Melanie Griffith?!
Is that why she has a career??

    • charlie says:

She’s actually a pretty decent actress, unlike many other celebrity offspring.

    • tracking says:

That was certainly her foot in the door. But apparently she is good. I can imagine a child with something of Melanie Griffith’s vulnerable sex appeal and Don Johnson’s sly wit. (haven’t seen FSOG)

    • Jayna says:

The reviews have been really strong on Dakota’s performance. I have never seen her in a role before.

    • kimmy says:

She was on a fox tv show for a minute….Ben and Kate? Or something like that. Anyways, I thought she was adorable in it.

  39. Cricket says:

    Naomi Watts looks awesome!

    • Jayna says:

As always. My favorite actress of the season overall on the red carpet. She’s been very consistent.

  40. Jayna says:

Khloe can’t even make decent commentary on her own. Get the hook and get her off.

  41. Nayru says:

The mother daughter tension about the 50 shades movie is almost palpable. It was awkward to ask if Melanie Griffith had seen it. I think it was perfectly acceptable for her to refuse to watch it.

    • CK says:

YASSSS. I loved every second of the interview. I loved how they basically had to bleep Dakota Johnson.

    • Kiddo says:

I feel like Dakota doesn’t want to talk about the movie at all.

    • Blannie says:

The tension was pretty much out in the open! Hard to miss. I wonder if Melanie is at all jealous/conflicted of the attention paid to her daughter (Lara Spencer didn’t ask Melanie what her next projects were for example, but asked Dakota). I wonder if that hurts, since Melanie seems to be having a hard time accepting her own aging?

      • Jayna says:

Maybe that’s it. Because Melanie has said in the past she is very proud of her getting this role. And Dakota is the one who has said in other interviews she told her parents she didn’t want them seeing the movie.

I missed the red carpet interview, so I don’t know what you guys are talking about, except reading it here.

      • LadidahBaby says:

NO, seriously, Nayru, it wasn’t Melanie refusing to watch it, it was Dakota who told Melanie not to see it. Dakota herself has said in interviews that she had told both of her parents NOT to see 50 Shades, but tonight she got all prima donna when the interviewer asked Melanie if she had seen it and Melanie simply answered, “No.” Dakota got all testy on her and ended up sort of yelling something that looked like “Jesus Christ!” (it was bleeped out.) It was an ugly moment, I thought, and though I’m not a Melanie fan at all, she’s on the decline while Dakota is flying high, and to be publicly spoken to like that by her daughter – that was uncalled-for and really awful, I thought.

    • Bridget says:

Holy nip and tuck Batman. Melanie definitely did the post-divorce makeover, and she doesn’t exactly seem like she’s ceding the spotlight to her daughter. I understand not wanting to see the movie (who wants to see their daughter pretending to have sex?), but how can anyone pay attention to what she’s saying with that weird lower lip/chin action?

And Dakota has been devoted to those bangs for so long, it’s time to change it up.

      • Kiddo says:

(who wants to see their daughter pretending to have sex?) Brian WIlliams. Although maybe he misspoke that he watched.

Melanie got jacked during her marriage. She was insecure about the younger man and I guess for good reason.

      • Jayna says:

Dakota has a super super high forehead; hence, the bangs.

      • Bridget says:

Melanie is also dumb as a post. Not a real surprise considering her background. And I have a hard time mustering any sympathy for her on the failure of her marriage considering that was exactly how she and Antonio got together in the first place.

      • Kiddo says:

Bridget, I have sympathy for her face.

      • Bridget says:

        @Kiddo: She’s going full cat-lady.

    • Bridget says:

Actually, now after thinking about it, I think the interview was awkward because Melanie has never been the brightest bulb in the box. She’s always been really poorly spoken – big shock, considering that this was the girl who moved in with Don Johnson at 14 instead of going to high school.

    • LadidahBaby says:

She didn’t refuse to watch it, though. Dakota said a couple of months ago that she didn’t want either of her parents to see it and she had told them so. It was ugly to see her turn on her mother tonight.

  42. CK says:

This Melanie Griffith – Dakota Johnson interview is beyond amazingly awkward. I think I’m becoming a fan. I love how the interviewer asked her mom if she saw her bondage movie.

    • Nayru says:

I just made the exact same comment. It practically gave me the chill that you get when you are in a really really uncomfortable social situation.

  43. OSTONE says:

Julianne Moore looks wonderful, like a winner. Marion can wear a potato sack and she will still look beautiful. Did Dakota Johnson and Melanie Griffith just got in a fight while being interviewed by Lara Spencer? Lol

    • patricia says:

Right? What was that exchange all about between Melanie and Dakota? I find this girl insufferable and utterly incapable of conducting a proper interview. Of course, her defenders will say she’s an introvert that explains her behaviour. Whatever.

      • LadidahBaby says:

Yeah, I just posted about that below. After how Dakota treated Melanie tonight, I’m so over even trying to like her. Dunzo.

  44. Jayna says:

Please, for the love of God, take Khloe off of this panel commenting.

  45. What says:

Meh. Julianne’s dress would have been great if it was in another color. I dislike Lupita’s dress, she was much better dressed at the Globes. Marion’s dress is okay, nothing special. Rosamund looks good!

    DAVID OYELOWO LOOKS AWESOME!

  46. CK says:

Also can we just talk about Rosamund Pike’s gown? I mean, damn. Where was this style during the season. Probably one of the best dresses of the night.

    • Lucy2 says:

I’m glad she saved it for this- that dress is gorgeous and such a huge improvement over everything else she’s worn all season.

  47. tracking says:

Georgina Chapman has the WORST TASTE. I guess this isn’t surprising (look whom she married), but ugh. And such a beautiful woman, too.

  48. Ann says:

Looks like Sienna Miller got her face pulled back. Ughh, can’t stand her.
Lainey just tweeted Cumberbitch and his wife look tense and like brother and sister.

  49. Jayna says:

Emma Stone, the best of the night. Stunning.

  50. Nayru says:

Our dear friend Cumberbatch spoke her name! He did rush through his answer about the honeymoon it was almost dismissive. Very awkward.

  51. charlie says:

Sophie Hunter looks good. I don’t like Benedict’s white tux. ANDE KISSED HER. I really like them together, I know that’s an unpopula opinion round here, but I do.

Reese looks bad. I hate that kind of neckline with the dropped shoulders.
    Ava looks beautiful.

  52. MeloMelo says:

Cumberbatch reminds me of Beavis and Butthead with that hair.

  53. Jib says:

I think Lupita’s dress is horrible – it looks like something they used to put on bathrobes, or chenille. But of course, she will get praised by everyone for it. Ugh.

Cate B. looks great as does Margot Robbie – she is very elegant! I don’t like Julianne’s gown much, I think it’s very odd, but better than most of her’s. Pretty unimpressive, this year.

    • MisJes says:

I agree – I hate, hate, HATE Lupita’s dress. It’s just awful – easily the worst of the night, for me.

  54. Jayna says:

Dakota was perfect for her first Oscar red carpet being there as a presenter.

  55. Freshmeat says:

Ahh the Cumberbump in red…no floral? To big to pull it off?

  56. Carolina says:

Lupitas dress is fug and chrisy tiegens dress looks like a cheap prom dress.

  57. LAK says:

Rosamund P, Kerry W, Julianna M, Cate B for me.

  58. Jayna says:

    I don’t like Lupita’s gown on her.

  59. tracking says:

    Reese, kinda boring.

    • Jayna says:

      I thought it was stunning.

    • mia girl says:

At least her forehead can wrinkle when she talks.

      • layla says:

I commented below… but that’s some “interesting” wrinkle pattern. So unnaturally smooth in the middle. Almost like it can’t move! 😉

      • mia girl says:

Yes. I think it’s because she tried to be a Botox minimalist.
So she botoxed the “11” between her eyebrows but left the rest of the forehead alone to make it seem like she’s all natural….what’s left is some weird patern.
But hey, at least there were wrinkles.

      • PunkyMomma says:

OMG. Her forehead wrinkles as if she’s a shar pei. And the gown is wrinkled already. Sacre bleu!

      • layla says:

Oh I have no problem with wrinkles/lines/actual muscle movement and animation… but I just find whatever is going on there so very distracting and obvious!

    • charlie says:

I hate that kind of neckline/sleeves. I don’t like it at all.

  60. OSTONE says:

    Laura Jeanne Poon, so underwhelming.

  61. boredblond says:

Margot Robbie ++++! Love it.. don’t get the thing about Dakota J..looks like a shapeless dress on a hanger..thought she was suppose to be hot? Think Julianne looks better than usual–like that her dress has structure to it..Reese W looks elegant..Think she’s nailed every red carpet this year.

  62. Jayna says:

I have to say I love Adam Levine’s wife’s gown.

  63. tracking says:

Gwyneth, awful. blech on the color and the giant flower.

  64. Jayna says:

Viola is wow. The color is stunning on her. The gown is so Oscar worthy. I don’t even know what color it is, but it is stunning against her skin tone.

  65. Lucy2 says:

Reese’s is kind of boring (many are tonight) but I don’t dislike it.
Goop’s is hilarious. That flower! No. Cate looks great but surprisingly subdued. Viola looks like a queen!

Everyone on E’s panel looks hideous.

  66. layla says:

Umm… is anyone else distracted by the interesting pattern Reese’s forehead lines make (during her interview).
    So smoooooth in the middle.
    So distracting!
Girl shouldn’t raise her eyebrows like that. Ha.

  67. Nayru says:

Jennifer Lopez actually seemed kinda cool and personable, call me crazy. I think the dress is ok her boobs work somehow, I didn’t liker her makeup.

  68. Jayna says:

Laura Dern really surprised me. She really brought it tonight. That gown is so flattering on her and she looks sexy in it. I love the gun metal grey or whatever it is.

  69. paola says:

Kelly Osbourne has morphed into Ursula the sea witch.

  70. lenje says:

I can’t watch it live, so I base my judgment on online sources (i.e. People). I find a lot of the dresses quite meh. So far, I like what I see on Dakota Johnson, Laura Dern, Rita Ora and Eddie Redmayne’s wife. Oh, and Katie Cassidy! (btw, who’s she?)

As for the guys, I like Common. Everyone else can go home.

  71. Jayna says:

I don’t like Gwyneth’s gown, but her hair, makeup and earrings are perfection on her. The gown is flattering. It’s the flower thing that is so off-putting.

  72. charlie says:

Emma Stone looks great. I love her so much
    Where is Keira?

    Is Gaga wearing rubber gloves?

  73. InvaderTak says:

Well, SH finally got it right I think. Very nice. BC looks like a waiter and so does Adrian Brody. People will be handing them empty glasses all night. Eddie Reddie looked nice. Hannah’s dress was pretty. Not sure about the belt thing on it though.

Thoughts on the #askhermore thing? the fug girls made a good point that there’s room for both fashion and real questions. I agree.

  74. Adiellybelly says:

Reese looks awful! Do they photoshop her or is she aging that badly? Her forehead wrinkles. sTOPPP doing that.

JLO FOR THE WIN!!!! Makeup not that great tho….

  75. Carolina says:

Cate blanchets necklace is beautiful I want it. Reese’s dress and styling are boring and it reminded me of the blue dress she wore a couple years ago.

  76. LAK says:

OK is Ethan Hawke juiced? Why is he slurring so badly?

  77. Jayna says:

Nicole, what was she thinking with the red belt?

  78. OSTONE says:

Emma Stone is my favorite person ever. We are secretly best friends, she just doesn’t know it yet.

  79. MtnRunner says:

    ScarJo looks fabulous.

  80. charlie says:

Keira looks amazing. I love this.

  81. paola says:

Aaaaand the Oscar for Most Awkard Moment goes to… Dakota and her mother.
Did they have an argument before arriving??
    That was so freakin weird.

    • Olenna says:

They started off OK, then it turned into a mother-teen daughter moment, with Dakota giving side-eye and Melanie looking slightly embarrassed. Yes, it was weird.

    • LadidahBaby says:

Yeah, wtf was that?!? They bleeped out the last part of Dakota’s angry response to her poor mom, but it looked like she added, “JESUS CHRIST!” Through that whole increasingly tense exchange, I began to see Dakota as a spoiled, entitled Hollywood brat. For one thing, Dakota herself had already said in a pre-release interview that she’d told both of her parents NOT to see 50 Shades. And yet tonight when Melanie said (in answer to the interviewer’s question) that no, she HADN’T seen it, Dakota got really surly with her, and became increasingly angry. Melanie looked so ambushed, I just felt awful for her, especially with her life at a low point right now and Antonio happily involved with a WAY younger woman. I had sort of begun liking Dakota, having seen her on a couple of late-night shows and thinking she was sweet and funny, but in that one moment tonight when she was so awful to her mom, that did it for me. Just when she’s riding on a tide of publicity and countless invitations, she should be able to treat her mother with respect in public.

  82. Jayna says:

    Common, oh, yeah.

  83. tracking says:

Aniston’s dress is drop-dead gorgeous, but the hair is a miss.

  84. Carolina says:

Naomi watts dress no just no. what was her stylist thinking?

    • Justwastingtime says:

Really, I thought it was one of the better looks of the night, along with Lupita and Rosemund Pike….

  85. paola says:

Cumberbatch will collect all the dirty glasses while Gaga will wash them with her gloves.

  86. charlie says:

My pick for best dressed – Emma, Keira, Zendaya and Cate B
Worst – Marion, Felicity, JLo and Nicole Kidman

  87. Nev says:

    Goop. JLO. Aniston. Scarjo. Happening.

    • Kiddo says:

Love Aniston’s dress, wish she put some curl or did something new with her hair though.

      • tracking says:

Yes, that dress calls for old-school glamour-girl hair.

      • LadidahBaby says:

Yeah, I thought her hair needed something extra, too, but the dress was beautiful and looked great on her. Really suited her body, for once (it’s been a long time since I thought any dress she wore looked exactly right for her body type).

  88. LAK says:

Tim McGraw should never go hatless. Talk about mojo in a hat!!!

  89. lisa2 says:

I like Jennifer Aniston’s dress.. but the Hair just make it less glamorous. Gaga looked just crazy and I’m over it all. Nicole Kidman’s dress is a disappointment.

    • Inky says:

Agree with every single sentiment. Also, it is as though Gaga is just desperate for attention at this stage.

      • Jayna says:

As least Gaga stopped talking in that affected nasally voice she had going for two years. I was over it, and she finally stopped it. Even her fans talked about it. It was during her pretentious period.

    • pixie-stix says:

Was Lady Gaga in the middle of cleaning her oven, those gloves…

  90. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

The Best Picture nominees are a fairly lacklustre line up this year. It’s a shame the category can’t be opened up to films from all over the world. Then films like Leviathan, Winter Sleep, Wild Tales and Ida could’ve added some prestige to the award. When was the last time a highbrow film took out Best Picture?

    Hell, even this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pK491Y7eXQY
has more artistic merit than this year’s BP nominees

  91. Lucy2 says:

E classed it up with no mani-cam and no slow camera panning up the women…and then put that horrible panel on? They talked over each other, kept laughing for no reason, and had nothing of value to say.

  92. Jayna says:

I got on E late and stayed on E too long and missed a lot of red carpet outfits on ABC.

  93. Hiddlesgirl85 says:

The dresses tonight are pretty bland.

On another note, Idris and his daughter are so adorable! Idris is beaming and his daughter is a beautiful young lady.

  94. Jayna says:

Julianne Moore’s gown is so beautiful.

    • LadidahBaby says:

I thought so, too. I don’t know who the designer was, though it had a Chanel vibe. I thought it was her best RC look ever. And how perfect that she looked so fab on the night she won her first Oscar.

  95. Yeses says:

I’ll have a shot of whatever Patricia Arquette is drinking lol

  96. Carolina says:

wtf is up with lady gaga’s rubber gloves? and that dress is fug too it looks uncomfortable and stiff like she can’t move around. Kerry Washington’s dress looks like something Charlize Theron and Anne Hathaway have worn during awards season. And Patricia Arquett’s hair is a big fat no it looks like she just put it up as she ran out the door.

    • jen2 says:

I like red accents, just not that kind. She looks like a dishwasher. Some strange choices for clothing tonight. Paltrow’s shoulder bow and one long sleeve looks so odd. All in all, more misses than hits.

  97. Freshmeat says:

Oh Chris Evans! Brought his really good friend and of course the reporter is like is “you brought your gf”. It really must be way harder to be a single celeb. Hooked up to everyone who seen within a 5ft. radius of you.

    • Cate says:

Some girls have all the luck! Although I don’t know if I only would want to be friends with Chris…but I’d take it if he wouldn’t see me as GF material. I’d probably end up very bitter, LOL!

      • Freshmeat says:

Lol! No kidding. But then maybe she knows all his not so nice flaws. And it’s like no thanks, bud.

      • Cate says:

Ha! True, something like that! She’s probably like, ‘he’s just a gross boy/man people.’ (Although I do bet he’s a sweetheart in general!)

    • InvaderTak says:

Why was he there? He seems to turn up at all the awards shows. Where is RDJ? Is he even there?

    • MtnRunner says:

Where is Lilacflowers? He is her husband, y’know. Maybe she lent him out for the weekend.

      • Lilacflowers says:

He has been driving me crazy taking pictures of the snow instead of shoveling it so I sent him to California so I wouldn’t hit him with a shovel

      • MtnRunner says:

You really hold your husbands loosely, don’t you? If Hiddles is busy next week, I might look for a loaner of Cap’n Sexy as he’s growing on me.

      • Lilacflowers says:

        Mtnrunner, you are on probation.

  98. charlie says:

Whatever happened to Nicole Kidman’s fashion sense?

  99. Hiddlesgirl85 says:

A lot of A-listers must of declined their invtations this year, huh? I see too many B-, C-, and D-listers.

    • InvaderTak says:

Agree. There’s not much going on here.

    • jen2 says:

Agree. Very low star wattage this year. I had to look up the names for quite a few.

    • Kiki04 says:

There’s gotta be some truth to that when you look at the people in the audience. Jason Bateman? Jack Black? wtf?

    • loraeda says:

There were some A listers. But I know who you are all upset about not being there. I bet the loons had a breakdown when The Birdman director won his Best Director Oscar. I know who you all wish was up on that stage receiving their Oscar.

  100. paola says:

Meryl looks gorgeous. The best she has looked in many years. She is the true Lady oscar.

  101. Jayna says:

My sweetheart, Liam Neeson, is presenting tonight. He didn’t walk the red carpet?

  102. Carolina says:

Not even a minute in and already a song. NPH hosting shtick sucks.

  103. tifzlan says:

I really like this opening number!

  104. Abbott says:

    I CALLED IT.

    So predictable.

    • Bridget says:

That wasn’t exactly a hard call to make. Don’t they all do some sort of musical number to start the Oscars?

  105. LAK says:

After 50 shades of grey they’ll all have leather whips!!!!

  106. Jayna says:

    Is this the Tony Awards?

  107. Kiki04 says:

Ok NPH, let’s be honest here – no one is tuning in for the makeup artists and editing people and sound mixers. Lets just get that out of the way now…….

  108. Clucky says:

    Oprah joke…

    “’cause you’re rich.”

    *cringe*

  109. MeloMelo says:

Neil sounds so nervous and awkward.

  110. CK says:

Did NPH just make an “Oprah is rich” joke that was pretty much an “Oprah is fat” joke?

  111. InvaderTak says:

Perfect. We have the hot mess ceremony to go with the hot mess campaigns.

And I still hate Gaga. There I said it. How the heck did she get this gig?

  112. Jayna says:

    Come to me, Liam.

  113. paola says:

Is NPH going to offend every single courvaceous woman during the whole show?
    Because you’re RICH? to oprah??
    No snacks?! To Octavia Spencer?
my gwad. his career is already over. He sounds a lot like that dork he plays in HIMYM

  114. MeloMelo says:

Wow this show is a mess.

  115. KatyD says:

Not feeling it with many of the dresses tonight. I did like Rosamund Pike and America Ferreira, but not much else.

Here’s my snark take on what they wore:

    Julianne Moore–Carol Channing 60s musical
    Reese–60s Southern debutante
    Stone–swirling vomit dress
Aniston–dullest figure skater in the world
    Lupita–lumpy white dress
    Cate Blanchett–my bohemiam aunt
Laura Dern–biker bar babe goes to the Oscars
Naomi Watts–upscale beachwear, if you cut the dress at the knee
    Gwyneth–puke pink rose dress
    Felicity–a moving shimmery biege couch
    Margot Robbie–old Hollywood costume party
    Scarlett–saloon singer in green
Marion Cotillard–holey white sack with black tape on the ass? Seriously wtf

    • InvaderTak says:

Lol at Carol channing 60’s musical. “saloon singer in green” sounds like a post impressionist painting,

    • Mel M says:

      I agree, loved Rosamund, finally!

I’m not watching but have been checking all of the red carpet pics on line and the white background was a terrible choice. It looks like a lot of women went with neutrals and white and the white background totally washes them out. I wish I could’ve watched it live.

  116. Jayna says:

    Where’s the jokes?

    • Kiki04 says:

I’m not feeling NPH, I’d take any of the last 10 hosts over him. Mainly cause I miss the opening jokes when they make fun of people! I’d rather jokes over a musical number any day 🙁

    • paola says:

You can’t hear them because they are so lame and not funny at all.
I’ve tuned out. I’ll go to bed, it’s 3am here and the show is so not worth it right now.

      • CK says:

The joke is Neil’s hosting job. When you start laughing derisively as I have, the show becomes hilarious.

  117. Carolina says:

this show is even more boring then it usually is.

  118. Jayna says:

Thank God, Liam came out early so I can tune out early. I just want to see what Gaga sings and if she’s great or average.

  119. Jayna says:

Reese’s skin tone and make-up are horrible. What happened between the Spirit Awards where she was luminous and tonight?

    • ac says:

+1 I’m surprised this is the only comment on her awful makeup. I haven’t been watching on tv though, so maybe it’s only really obvious for me in photographs.

    • Senaber says:

That little flat botox spot between her eyebrows is HORRIBLE. Every picture I’ve seen of her is her with these weird little forehead lines that just flank that one flat, tight little spot. It is so awful. I think her whole look is a fail, unfortunately.

  120. LAK says:

I like a musical number from the host, but i’m really not feeling NPH’s hosting. Talk about unfunny/witty. He’d nodding to Billy Crystal and failing badly.

  121. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

Ah nuts. Ida won Best Foreign Language Film. I was rooting for Leviathan.

  122. Jayna says:

I love NPH, and I feel sorry for him. He’s falling flat.

  123. Jess says:

Zoe Saldana looks amazing, but are her boobs leaking or is it just a weird dress thing?

  124. InvaderTak says:

“This is unhinged. It’s 2AM I shouldn’t be watching white dudes rap at a taxidermy dog while Batman shreds a guitar solo” LMAO
And “It just took Ethan Hawke 12 years to lose Best Supporting Actor :(”
    From the Independent’s live blog.

  125. LAK says:

Wait. Maureen O’Hara is still alive?! Wow. Amazing.

  126. Jayna says:

Oprah doesn’t seem impressed with NPH at all tonight.

  127. Coco says:

Did The Goopster just fall out of an episode of Dynasty? Horrible look. Poor Goopy

    • Kiki04 says:

Probably knew that flower trying to eat her arm would get her some attention……..;)

    • tracking says:

I thought maybe a retroactive audition for Sex and the City. Wasn’t it 10 years ago that SJP constantly sported the giant flower?

  128. booboobird says:

    man, I want Goop’s earrings.
lego movie song…wtf?? I had to check the box of cookies I’m eating. for a moment I thought husband dear had switched it for something funky.

  129. Jayna says:

I thought Margot was Emma Stone on the Red Carpet and why I said Emma looked the best she’s ever looked. LOL It was Margot all the time.

    • InvaderTak says:

I think you just summed up a big problem in Hollywood; they’re interchangeable and if you don’t have good promotion, forgettable. I don’t see what’s so great about Stone TBH.

  130. Kiki04 says:

And Jared Leto was just funnier than NPH in that one line…………loved the Meryl joke!

    • Coco says:

I am really surprised how BAD NPH has been hosting. He looks like he doesn’t want to be there. Awkward!

  131. LV says:

Margot Robbie: love her hair and necklace, but her dress is like a boudoir chemise!

Reese Witherspoon: that black bar reminds me of redacting a photo for indecency. Makeup is very pretty though.

Lupita: There’s a reason dresses are make out of cloth and not jewels!! Very bulky and looks like a harness from the back. But is just the right amount of skin showing.

Anna Kendrick: Love; cutouts without being raunchy.

Viola Davis: Love the glowing pearl color so much but the off-the-shoulder is too 80s for me. I like her necklace too.

Chloe Grace Moretz: I love this dress, it’s like a Laura Ashley bedspread but looks so cozy and precious on her.

Felicity Jones: I love the skirt on her dress, don’t like it much from the waist up.

Julianne: looks like ermine trim or Cruella de Vil’s ball gown? But is very pretty somehow. So opulent yet modest.

Sienna Miller: from the side, the bits and pieces of the ribbons on her bodice stuck out like stray wires from a battery pack or suicide vest

Lady Gaga: whatever she did to her hair (a coral scrunchie?), I like it from the front at least.

Lorelai Linklater: I love this dress. I think it’s really festive and interesting.

  132. Joh says:

Jennifer Lopez looked horrible, too much flat boob and was she painted to match the dress? (she reminds me of dyed to match brides maids shoes)
The dress was toooo long, but I loved that she tripped on it leaving the stage. And someone stepped on it and she looked soooo silly!

  133. Jayna says:

Is Idris always the best dressed man at these awards? I think so.

  134. Ashley says:

So Jessica Chastain was totally acting like a giggling school girl when she presented with Idris.

  135. HolyShitake says:

How does the in memorium work? Is Joan Rivers not honored b/c she’s more TV?

  136. nicegirl says:

Is ‘Baby Wipes’ T. Howard WASTED? Hmmmmm

  137. savu says:

Terrence Howard, making it all about Terrence Howard.

  138. Jayna says:

Jennifer Aniston’s gown is stunning on her.

  139. tifzlan says:

Ugh, every performance of Glory makes me fall in love with the song even more. So powerful, so relevant, so beautiful.

EDIT: David Oyelowo and Chris Pine were crying!

  140. Lilacflowers says:

    Jennifer and David – icy!

  141. Olenna says:

    Congratulations, Common!
P.S. That is one fine looking man.

  142. MissTrial says:

The Travolta-Menzel bit was funny but he looks like a mannequin.

  143. **sighs** says:

    Gaga did great

  144. MissTrial says:

    Lady GaGa sounds amazing! Fabulous!

  145. Kiki04 says:

Having Julie Andrews come out at the end just made me wish that she was the one singing instead………..

  146. MrsBPitt says:

Did anyone see Jennifer Garner there?? I was wondering if she came with Ben! After all, two of his exes are there and single, JLO and Goop….not trying to start rumors or anything….

    • Jayna says:

He was just a presenter. She has said with all the kids they don’t attend everything together unless important. She wouldn’t have spent hours getting ready, come and left the kids to sit through a boring three hours when Ben isn’t nominated for anything. I don’t think she’s worried about Goop or J-LO. Goop is hardly anything he would be lusting for anymore. She’s exhausting. J-Lo, he dumped and didn’t marry. It would be the cute young new thing she would be worried about.

      • CK says:

Honestly, I feel like marrying Affleck just means you don’t care. He allegedly cheated on J.Lo with a stripper. I’m not sure how anyone could trust him with any woman.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Their rule has been that they only go to awards together if one of them is nominated or in a film that is nominated. They have both explained that in interviews. One goes, one stays with the kids. They have pretty much kept to that rule with only a few, very recent exceptions.

  147. Jayna says:

There have been some upsets tonight for sure.

    • Kiki04 says:

I know they all deserved it but deep down I was hoping there would be an upset with one of the acting categories. Just to keep things interesting.

  148. tifzlan says:

Yup, Redmayne is the new Hathaway!

  149. LAK says:

    Yea for Eddie!!

I’m so disappointed by NPH. I genuinely though he’d do a great job.

    Next!

    Yea for Alejandro.

  150. InvaderTak says:

Wow I really thought Keaton had that.

    • **sighs** says:

      Sads 🙁

    • MtnRunner says:

I did too. Eddie did a great job, but I would have preferred to see Keaton get the big one.

    • LadidahBaby says:

Me, too. Broke my heart. It was a category loaded with great performances, granted – but I honestly thought it was a given for Keaton. I sort of think he’d heard that enough that he thought so too. Poor guy. This might well have been his last chance at an Oscar.

  151. EN says:

Urghh, Redmayne over Keaton. I am really starting to dislike Eddie for no reason over than his salesman skills are too good for his own good. And he married a PR professional on top of it,

    • MtnRunner says:

Who cares what she does for a living? By all appearances, they clearly adore each other. At least they’re not giving us the WTFery of the Otter and Comet.

Eddie campaigned like a pro and his performance was extraordinary. While I would have loved to see Keaton get it, there’s no denying Eddie’s performance in TTOE was deserving of an Oscar.

      • EN says:

Too much, too much of Eddie, campaigning and Steven Hawking. I actually liked Hawking before I learned so much about him through this movie. He is not a good person, brilliant but not good at all, very selfish.

      • C says:

Yeah, over Redmayne, and the movie was blah.

How is he selfish? (That’s an earnest question! I just don’t know him that much and always thought he is rather charming…)

      • j says:

        i think they meant hawking?

hawking is known to be a jerk, didn’t treat jane well, abusive tbh and, left her for the younger nurse but only told her that by letter. not even in person.

Doesn’t she do PR for financial institutions or something like that? Completely different than PR for actors.

I’m sad. I don’t think Boyhood is going to win Best Movie, which it deserves.

  153. Jayna says:

No Boyhood. I am so bummed.

  154. **sighs** says:

    Hells yeah to the Birdman!!!

  155. Senaber says:

Is it STILL going? I’d like to watch, but I switched over to Walking Dead and now the whole house is asleep and I can’t turn on the TV. They really need to start it at 6 or make it a 3-hour show. It is ridiculous that you lovely celebitches aren’t able to update a poor Walking Dead fan before bedtime. 🙂

  156. pixie-stix says:

Congratulations to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for Best Director. Birdman, 21 Grams, Biutiful, Amores Perros…I love his vision. Bummed Michael didn’t win though, he really was brilliant.

  157. tifzlan says:

    Sean Penn is the worst.

  158. InvaderTak says:

Well Birdman got the big one! Grand Budapest Hotel got a bunch of the behind the scenes trophies so hooray for that too.

  159. OSTONE says:

Mexican girl here! Absolutely thrilled that Alfonso Cuaron won last year. That Chivo and Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu won this year. So so happy and proud! I thought boyhood was a lock and Keaton would be the only one with an Oscar for Birdman. Oh how wrong I was!
