Oscar Isaac: ‘I’ve just been doing a Pacino impression the whole time’

Oscar1

Oscar Isaac covers the April issue of Details. Oscar has been a major rising star for several years now, but I don’t recall seeing him on a major magazine cover before now. He looks hot, right? SO HOT. He’s promoting his new film, Ex Machina, where he doesn’t really look so hot. Shaved head and a big, bushy beard? Eh. Don’t get me wrong, I would still hit it. But he looks so much better with his hair grown out. Forget Patrick Dempsey and Bradley Cooper – Oscar has the man-locks that I lust for. Here’s the new trailer for Ex Machina, also starring Domhnall Gleeson (another star on the rise) and Alicia Vikander (this is possibly one of the films she expects to go to the Oscars).

It looks good, right? As for the Details interview, you can read the full piece here. Since I really didn’t know much about Oscar Isaac’s life, I found it interesting. He came to America (from Guatemala) when he was just a baby. He experienced several natural disasters as a child. He used to a hellraiser. He’s obsessed with Al Pacino. Some highlights:

Signing on to big franchises: “In order to be a leading actor everyone has to be an action star, to a certain extent.”

Being compared to the great actors: “The fact that I would even be mentioned in the same breath as Pacino, and particularly his performances in The Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon, is insane. I take it all with a grain of salt. People talk a lot of sh-t.”

He once fronted a ska band, the Blinking Underdogs & performed on the Warped Tour: “I wasn’t totally straight-edge, ’cause I ate meat. But no drugs, no alcohol, no sex—all that stuff.” He stood apart from his bandmates, some of whom, he says, were later lost to drug overdoses. “In a way, it became more of a badge of individuality. I was the guy that didn’t do that.” Until, in due time, he did. “After about 18, things started shedding pretty quickly. Yeah, all of that’s been shed.”

Getting cast in Star Wars: “My uncle was a huge fan. He had cards, toys—he still has a huge gallery where he has all his figures. He almost fainted when I told him that I was cast.” When filming started, Isaac says, his uncle “made shirts that said ESTAR GUARS, EPISODE VII. I gave them to everybody and told J.J. Abrams, who was like, ‘Does he wanna be in the movie?’ He’s an extra in a scene with me. How amazing is that?”

His friend Jessica Chastain introduced him to Al Pacino: “He was so gracious when he saw me. He was like, ‘People talk to me about you.’ That was amazing. We sat and I badgered him about acting. He loved it. And we just talked about it for, like, an hour, and everybody else disappeared, except Jessica, of course.”

He’s just been doing a Pacino impression this whole time: “The secret is I’ve just been doing a Pacino impression the whole time. I don’t know what everyone’s freakin’ out about. That’s all I’m doing—a Pacino impression.”

[From Details]

I didn’t realize that Chastain is probably his closest friend in the business, and that they were at Julliard together. He talks a lot about their friendship and it feels genuinely like it is just a friendship, like they’ve never slept together or dated. He actually makes some allusions to the idea that he’s sort of a womanizer, or he was when he was younger. Which I could see. Look at that face!! He knows he’s hot and those puppy-dog eyes have gotten a lot of girls over time.

    God, he’s HOT.

  2. Josefa says:

I’m South American, so I find his looks to be pretty average and common. But he’s incredibly talented and seems like a nice and smart guy. I hope his career goes places.

    • Pri says:

He also dropped his last name to avoid being type-cast in Hispanic parts…didn’t realize that was a thing.

    • Lb says:

I spotted him once on the street and he does look fairly average. But he’s an amazing actor. I loved him in Inside Llewyn Davis.

I remember the first time I saw him was on an episode of Law and Order Criminal Intent lol. I remember thinking back then that he deserved bigger parts. I’m glad he’s blowing up just enough to sustain a career but not too much that it’s overkill.

    • lizzie says:

i’ve been to south africa and i can attest that the most naturally beautiful people i have ever seen in the flesh are centralized there.

that being said – this man is beautiful.

      • Josefa says:

Oh, yeah, he’s definitely handsome. But handsome in the way most latin guys are, aka, not something particularly exciting for a latin girl like me.

    • Franca says:

He’s cute, but he’s very short isn’t he?

      • mimif says:

5’9″ which loosely translates to like 5’6″.

      • Lori says:

When he stood next to Jon Stewart on the daily show they were about the same size. And jon Stewart is open about being short
        …around 5’6″.

  3. Becks says:

Thank you Kaiser for this!!! Love me some Oscar 😍

    • Bella bella says:

I just watched The Two Lives of January or whatever it is called. I thought he was good in a movie with a dumb script. And definitely a big dash of Pacino in how he moved and how he spoke. With his own spin. A compelling presence. But unfortunately the script falls apart and that is disappointing. They all do a great job, though — Dunst, Mortensen, Isaac.

  4. if you’re going to emulate an actor, there are worse choices you could make. Pacino is an amazing talent.

  5. Jegede says:

    I love Al Pacino.
    Michael Corleone, Oh Michael.

I guess I’ll have to start stanning Oscar Issac

  6. mimif says:

      • Eve says:

        @ Virgilia Coriolanus:

I do (appreciate it). Thank you all for caring.

        @ Lilacflowers:

Some bitches here have a short memory, don’t they? So…for future reference, my top five list is as follows:

        Oscar Isaac and Adam Bakri (from the movie “Omar”) — it’s a tie;

        Ramin Djawadi (composer, did/still does Game of Thrones soundtrack);

        Joel Kinnaman;

        Tahar Rahim.

      • MtnRunner says:

No Hiddles, no Hunnan, no Keanu. I’m in the clear with Eve.

This Oscar guy is kinda hot. That movie with Chastain seemed to come and go at the theaters here and I missed it last month. Was it any good?

      • mimif says:

@Eve, there was one more, we were fighting over him a billion years ago and I can’t remember who it was. Viggo?

      • Eve says:

        @ MtnRunner:

        Hmmmm…kind of.

I’m sorry to say this but Keanu Reeves is on my “forever dong” list. I’m not attracted to him as I used to, but the man is marriage material. A couple of days ago a friend of mine sent me that video showing him offering his seat to a woman on a train. I had already seen that video, but it was a nice reminder of the decent, grounded human being that he is.

      • Kiddo says:

        I said alright already, ALRIGHT!

Good day. I said GOOD DAY!*

*slams door, hits self in ass.

      • Eve says:

        @ Mimif:

I don’t think we ever fought over Viggo. Viggo can’t be exclusive — he’s in many CBitches’s “forever dong” list.

I briefly fought Jenna over Chris Evans or “Captain Sexy” as we used to call him; then — for a VERY SHORT period of time — I fought the drangonflies over their master; then…I jumped on the Cumber bandwagon that took over this site. And that’s the only immaginary fight I’m ashamed of.

By the way, I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize for all that (sooooooooo unnecessary) shanking.

      • MtnRunner says:

Eve, Keanu is my CB husband, but I’m happy to share him with the ladies as long as he comes back refreshed and happy. He is the forever dong of so many, we agreed that an open marriage was the best for the community.

So have you softened your views on TommyAnna now that he’s been working like a dog and stopped with the silly tweeting?

      • mimif says:

I’m going down the deep web hole to find the link, because it’s going to bother me until I find out who it is. I’ll be back in 4 hours.

      • Eve says:

        @ MtnRunner:

        I agree (about Keanu).

About Hiddleston…may I ask if you’re new here? Because I have loved him, hated, laghed at, then hated again, then started loving him again for what he was (with his good and bad qualities) and haven’t criticized him ever since.

Oh, and I take back all that skepticism regarding his performance in Crimson Peak. Saw the trailer: he looks perfect for the part.

      • MtnRunner says:

        Eve,

I started lurking last summer on the Cumby posts and went back and read all of his and Hiddles previous posts, so I am aware of the comment history and Thornfield shenanigans. I remembered you as one of the ladies that liked to take a piss out of him in the early years. Haven’t seen you on his posts in recent months and was curious as to your current feelings on the matter. Wasn’t sure if you’d gone off him completely like Cumby or not.

I didn’t remember your comments on CP. I agree, I think he will be brilliant in that role. I’m crossing my fingers for ISTL that his talent for mimicry shines and that the director doesn’t f*ck things up in post-production.

        mimif,

Since I’m finding you all over the CB neighborhood today, hope you swing by the douchebag’s house once more before you sign off.

      • mimif says:

        Douche house visited!

      • Kiddo says:

        What’s a douche house?

      • MtnRunner says:

mimif – Thankin’ ya kindly. Responded.

kiddo – It’s the house where @paranormalgirl has led the Celebitches into beating the sh*t outta Miles. Kaiser asked if we’d hit it and we’re hitting it. With a big stick.

      • Kiddo says:

        lolz

      • I Choose Me says:

EVE! I’ve been wondering where you were. How are you?

      • Eve says:

        @ I Choose Me:

On my toes, trying to keep my head above the water.

P.S.: Is that you in your avatar? You’re very pretty!

  7. Tiffany says:

    Humuna…..humuna…..humena.

    *wipes drool from desk*

    Just so…

  8. EC says:

HOT HOT HOT. Dang, I had no idea.

  9. kri says:

Oh, hell yes. I would hit that so hard it would rebound so I could hit again.

  10. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Oh my Lord. Me likey the shaved head, beard, and round glasses. God. And I thought he couldn’t get any hotter.

    @ Eve
HEY! Where have you been hiding? Are you glad you jumped the Cumberbitch ship?

    • Eve says:

“Are you glad you jumped the Cumberbitch ship?”

So glad I can’t even begin to describe what it feels like. But the embarrassment of having once CB-fought over him…GAH!

      • MtnRunner says:

You were the first to jump off after Ibizagate, right? You read the tea leaves right with that one.

      • Eve says:

Not completely sure I was the first, but yes, that was the “beginning of the end”. I’m not humble bragging but I did see, right there, that there was something off.

  11. NB says:

    Uncle Jesse?

  12. TheOriginalKitten says:

    Man he is so delish.

  13. Dee Kay says:

I really like Oscar Isaac but that film he did with Jessica Chastain, A Most Violent Year, really was like one long ripoff of a 70s or early 80s Pacino film. It was basically Scarface Light. Isaac did do an amazing impression of the Pacino of that era, and Chastain was styled like Pfeiffer in Scarface to a tee, so it was sort of awesome to look at, but it needed to have more substance to make it interesting, other than, “Look, we know what this film and these actors are SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE!!!!”

I hope Isaac becomes a big star because he’s talented, but that film did not do it for me at all.

  14. Marianne says:

Those pictures are soooo yummy. Not lying.

  15. KatieD says:

Did anyone else think he was John Stamos at first glance?

  16. Ruth Dunbar says:

This guy is so hot I can hardly stand it. I didn’t even read the post.

  17. serena says:

Serious question, since I don’t get it, who finds B-Coop hot these days?

    Btw Isaac IS hot.

  18. Wheeze says:

Such a good actor with a great presence! (He was the blue-eyed prince in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and made Russell Crowe look like a fat, sweaty bogan (which he is). I think he’s got a massive crush on his Julliard classmate Jessica. Now he’s dating a danish/swiss? director/actor, but he was married for a while.)

  19. Amy says:

He was AMAZING in The Two Faces of January (you can rent it on Netflix at the moment). Now I’ll have to go back and watch to see if it was also an Al Pacino impression. 😉
