Amal Clooney goes for a retro, ’70s-style Gucci look: fug or fabulous?

135226PCN_Clooney13

Here are some “street style” photos of Amal Clooney breezing around New York yesterday. Of all the street-style and date-night looks I’ve seen on Amal since she’s been in New York, this might be my least favorite. Amal is tall, thin and pretty. She can pull off a lot of different looks. But with her coloring, she thought it would be a great idea to pair orange with a fleshy beige? Nooooo. With any kind of olive skin tone, you have to be very careful about the tone of your tans, beiges and nudes. They can really turn on you. If I had to describe exactly what was wrong here, I would probably go with the tone of the tan skirt – if she had gone a few shades lighter or darker either way, I’m not sure it would have been so bad. As is, it’s too matchy with her skin.

Then again, you guys know that I’m not a big fan of the yellow and orange trends. Orange and yellow are really, really difficult colors for most women to pull off. Can Amal handle this orange Gucci blouse with a snakeskin color? Eh. It doesn’t make her look ghoulish or anything, but it’s not her best color or style. The Gucci blouse is $900 retail, by the way. So far, Amal hasn’t repeated any looks in NYC.

A lot of sites are pointing out that Amal looks particularly ‘70s in this ensemble. My first reaction was “how Mad Men,” especially because Mad Men’s premiere episode on Sunday was all about the characters’ entrance into the 1970s. This style also reminds me of those great old photos of Jackie Kennedy, only she was Jackie Onassis at that point. It was after Onassis died and the twice-widowed Jackie moved to NYC full time, and she even worked at a publishing house. She totally dressed like this. Cough. George Clooney and Amal lean so heavily on Kennedy nostalgia, don’t they? At times she channels Carolyn Bessette, sometimes Jackie Kennedy.

Man I wish I had the nerve to go prancing around town dressed like that. It must be so fun.

    • Jess says:

Senaber, just find the nerve and do it! Why not? I’m so jealous of people who get to dress like this for work and can pull it off!

      • Erinn says:

Me too, Jess. I work in an office where we don’t interact face to face with clients. It’s a very lax dress code, and really only business casual when the CEO’s and other ‘big bosses’ come around (we’re in a satellite office). I’d love to wear a dressier, more put together outfit, but I work with a bunch of tech guys, who to them ‘dressing up’ means their less scruffy t-shirts usually. And I haven’t set the bar very high myself, because I don’t want to stick out in a sea of jeans and t-shirts.

I actually wore some wedges and a nice top and necklace the other day because I had to leave work and go out for dinner and drinks with some friends and didn’t have time to go home in between, and my cubical mate looked at me and was like “What are you doing? Are those heels?” he was just completely confused. I swear I don’t look like a hobo generally, but I’m going to have to ease into anything dressier one step at a time haha.

      • Dani says:

Same here, Erinn. The firm I work at is very lax in dress code unless there’s a meeting or client that day. I’m paranoid to ‘dress up’ because everyone questions me the whole day. It’s like, can’t I just want to look nice for once?!

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Lol Erinn, my dad’s the same way. He works as a programmer, and the dress code is PERFECT for his fashion sense (*cough*)…..dressing up for him is a nice pair of jeans and WHITE TURTLENECKS. White turtlenecks. He wears them like he’s Steve Jobs.

      • Senaber says:

Well I work from home, so I’m pretty sure i would look ridiculous checking the mail in that outfit. 🙂

      • bluhare says:

I need to get a new pair of glasses, Virigilia, as I thought you were quite blasé about your dad working as a pornographer! 😀

      • Mzizkrizten says:

I miss having a job outside the home that required me to dress up. I have a closet full of cute business skirts, slacks and tops. Mostly going to waste. Except I dress to the nines for church LOL

      • Vava says:

I worked in a very casual office too for many years (forestry, mining) and one day decided to dress up for office days. (I was in the field a lot, so yes jeans were the standard fare….). At first my coworkers were shocked and always made comments/compliments but after awhile they got used to seeing skirts, dresses, and heels when I had office days – and I had fun with fashion at long last. So, if you love getting dressed up – go for it!

    • Suzanne says:

She is ALL ABOUT the camera’s….she’s looking for them as equally eager to be photographed as they are to photograph her. She doesn’t look like she’s got makeup on so her overall look is kind of flat. God bless her for paying $900 if she paid a dime…for a sleeveless blouse. I’d have to look WAY BETTER than that in a blouse I shelled out that amount of money for.

      • Sugar says:

She definitely loves a camera. There’s no denying it.

      • Harrison says:

Agreed. She looks tickled pink to see the paps. And she looks kinda smug. I’d love to know what she was thinking at that moment.

    • Vizia says:

A friend of mine is a hardware guy at a big SV tech firm, known for a very “relaxed” dress code for engineers. Everyday he wears a beautifully tailored suit (he has at least a dozen), bespoke dress shirts, complete with matching silk tie, pocket square (he has hundreds, literally) and custom made cuff links (I’ve lost count). When you ask him why, he says, “Just to f*ck with them”.

He looks gorgeous. The other geeks give him a hard time, but he has no sh*ts to give. 🙂

    • thelazylioness says:

I used to work in NYC and dressed like this all the time. I worked for law firms and all the attorneys wore suits except after Memorial Day. I was an assistant so I had more leeway in what I was allowed to wear and I worked it! It was fun especially because you usually went out for drinks and dinner after work.

    • Enuff Said says:

      Love it…she has great style…original !!

  2. Wheeze says:

I don’t like her but this is one of her solid looks. She does this semi-professional look best out of all her looks. Stay away from the prints, Amal!

  3. Snazzy says:

I quite like the outfit actually. I think she looks very pretty

    • Loulou says:

Agreed! I actually think she looks quite good.

    • Sabrine says:

Very well put together. She looks great. So she’s being blamed for walking on the street to get to a vehicle? I wonder how she could avoid that. As far as I knew, the paps were allowed on the street too.

      • Hazel says:

Oddly enough, the DM article said she was out for a walk. Idiots. It was clearly a business lunch she was attending–she came out carrying s notebook.

    • MtnRunner says:

Me too… She always looks fantastic. I love the bright orange on top. It’s like she’s having fun with her clothes and not being too “lawyer-y”.

    • Kitten says:

Agreed. Not something that I would wear but it’s a really cool outfit IMO.

    • Sarah says:

I agree. I wish I could wear something like that. She looks lovely and professional.

    • Jen43 says:

      She looks beautiful.

    • Angel says:

Agreed. I like this outfit a lot.

    • Cynthia says:

      +1!

    • claire says:

Same here. She looks fantastic, IMO.

    • Lexie says:

Love this outfit on her. Usually I can’t understand her style but this just works.

Agreed about the particular shade of beige in that skirt thoug… a shade lighter or darker would have been better, but this is still one of her best looks by far.

    • Sammi says:

Totally agree! I think the orange works really well with her olive skin tone. Both are “warm” colours.

    • paleokifaru says:

Yep! I love it too. It’s very polished with a retro but not dated twist.

    • Olenna says:

I like it, too. Suits her perfectly (no snark intended).

    • ISO says:

What’s bothering me isn’t the person but the fit and the colors; this nice outfit belongs on another body. She should stick to black, navy and jewel tones not brights or camel. If she had a white color with a berry toned sweater and black skirt it would be stunning. Also she obviously is adjusting from her bride size so the tailoring is “off”

  4. Anastasia says:

I’m not seeing the 70s in this outfit, not even early 70s. And I was around for all of that decade. What am I missing?

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

I think the reference to Jackie O in the 70’s is very apt – it was more Halston/preppy chic with the colours of the era worked in to clean lines, not very hippyish at all.

    • Gea says:

It deosnt look 70’s it more reminds me of that wonna to be preppy chic, but not really. I would never compare her with Jackie, becouse she had her own style and she wore her clothes with that certain destiction. Amal is still trying to find her own chic, she is experimenting style wise. Personally, I would like to see her in clean and simple colors, demure prints and structured cut.

    • Greek Chic says:

Looks more like ’60s to me.

I don’t like the outfit. The worst thing on her look here is the snakeprint collar imo. Awful.

  5. Mrs. Darcy says:

I actually love everything about it, and her pink lipstick stops the orange making her look sallow imho. But then I love 70’s Jackie O/etc. I adore the collar and the pleat of the tan skirt. I guess if I had to nitpick I’m not big on the nude shoes, I’d prefer something more tan/brown leather personally to really go ott into 70’s town!

    • Nina says:

Agree. Like the outfit; better than her normal hello kitty looks. I think a brown shoe would have been great.

    • jane16 says:

Agree with you both about the shoes. I am so sick of nude colored high heels. This look does look 70s to me. My older sisters wore outfits like this.

  6. Lilacflowers says:

The people with the cameras are wearing winter coats and she is sleeveless. is there something blowing heat in her bag to keep her warm?

    • goofpuff says:

yes an assistant holding her coat so the paps can get a picture of her outfit

    • Belle Epoch says:

The whole thing is ridiculous to me. Call the paps! Amal is leaving the building – with clothes on! Hmmmm what to wear when it’s 43 degrees? Why a sleeveless $900 shirt of course! Every day millions of stylish people go to work in NYC with no photographers to document this amazing event. Why is she so try hard?

      • Santolina says:

Pap walk sponsored by [insert clothing, shoes and handbag designers]. At least those spindly legs are covered up; the mini-skirts she wore looked absurd.

      • lower-case deb says:

“Every day millions of stylish people go to work in NYC with no photographers to document this amazing event.”

there is Bill Cunningham! i watched a documentary about him and googled him.
86 years old and still crisscrossing NY to find and photograph lay fashion on his bicycle.

some fashionistas life goal is to be photographed by him, but he loves photographing ‘ordinary people with great style’ instead–high fashion or just affordable clothes tastefully put together, he doesn’t discriminate. i think his emphasize is on “style” rather than fashion or pricetag. like your whole wardrobe can be ten bucks and be stylish.

and his old-school journalist integrity is awesome so much so that he never touches the food or drink whenever he goes on assignment to a fashion event, so he doesn’t have to feel like he owe the host/organizer anything.

  7. Beatrice says:

Who designed that handbag? Hate the outfit but I want that bag.

  8. Goats on the Roof says:

I was expecting something a lot more out there based on the headline for this post. I dislike the collar, but everything else looks fine to me. Her face is lovely as always.

  9. Fa says:

Copycat why can’t she be her own self instead of channeling someone else style bad PR from clooneys

  10. thinkaboutit says:

Morandi! It was cold here but I guess she wasn’t on 7th Ave trying to hail a cab…

    • V4Real says:

Now I’m convinced this woman is loving the attention. It’s spring but the weather here in NY is not nice. She knew she was going to be papped and dressed the part. Look at all the people in the background bundled up and she’s prancing around like it’s 80 degrees. And yes she may just be walking to her car but there are plenty of people in NY who have cars waiting outside for them yet they still manage to throw on their coats, sweaters or jackets. She doesn’t even have a coat or jacket in her hand. Guess she doesn’t want it to distract from her look.

Side note. I now hope people will stop saying she’s too good for George . She’s getting exactly what she wants from this marriage. This is probably the most expensive contract George has ever signed.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Lol V4real…..it’s snowing here in Michigan.

      • noway says:

On top of the weather, this is NYC; celebrities are always around and not crowded with paps all the time. Also, when she is photographed she has a perfect hair blowout and always thousand of dollars worth of inappropriate weather choice clothes. We never catch her just out and about in non designer clothes like we do other celebrities. I am convinced these are all staged, and I guess George’s money and celebrity just isn’t enough for her or them now. On a nice note, I like the outfit, but not so much the collar. I don’t understand the fascination with snakeskin real or fake.

      • Lori says:

I saw the Daily Mail photos referenced below…..two things:
        a) LOL, the paps are wearing down coats! This (and the white jumpsuit photo) are clearly staged. Who else would go out in something like this in 40-degree weather if there was no photo shoot?
        b) Based upon the Daily Mail coverage, she’s getting papped approximately every two days. This is the full Kardashian treatment.

Yes, the skirt is an appropriate length for her chosen profession, but I feel like she’s impersonating a lawyer here (complete with the clear, professional binder) – lawyer barbie by day, vixen by night? Is this a bad sitcom? Whatever her game is, her husband is clearly over it, per the same Daily Mail photos. I know that this is weird to say, but he appeared to have more “chemistry” with Danny DeVito on the blue carpet of a charity event a month ago than with his wife in the most recent photographs.

  11. Scarlet Pimpernel says:

Isn’t it just around 43F in NYC at the moment? That’s not a lot to wear breezing around the city. The cam era men are in puffer coats and snow boots … so this is clearly a staged shot.

    • Chrissy says:

Just what I thought. Her coat is probably inside the building she’s seen leaving.

      • Fa says:

She was paps the day before she had coat then but people mag & US did not put the photo on their website only the daily mail had the photo because the photo wasn’t that stylish so didn’t reported that one but now without the coat they reported this show you this one was stages

    • Suzanne says:

Like every other photo taken of her…she’s posing.

    • jenn12 says:

Yes, it is! No one is wearing sleeveless shirts right now. And it’s too much with the belt, the pointy collar, and the snakeskin. It’s like a 70s Avon saleslady.

  12. DogMom says:

The DailyMail has photos of her walking into the resto looking downright annoyed. She then leaves said resto with lippy and a smile.

Also the boobs are new, no?

    • Kaiser says:

I was going to say something about her boobs but I honestly hadn’t paid attention to her bust that much. It might be a push-up bra? Or she might have gotten some modest implants.

      • Hally says:

I noticed the new boobs in those photos of her in the blue dress with the lacy/cutout side panels. Strange no one else is mentioning it.

  13. Observer says:

She needs to lighten her eyebrows, they’re too dark for her face and gain a few pounds to fill out her face, it looks too hard right now and not very feminine. I know it’s in style for the rich and famous to look as skinny as possible but it doesn’t suit most women imo.

    • It'sJustBlanche says:

I have to agree. I think she has a beautiful face and I love just about everything she wears but she really is too thin. I know were not supposed body shame one way or the other and I try really hard not to do it, but at a certain point when you’re noticeably that thin, it’s just not good.

      • Angel says:

I also think she looks to thin, it is not flattering on her. Not skinning shaming or telling her to eat, just it is not the best look on her.

    • Easypeasy123 says:

You’re eyebrows are not supposed to be lighter than your hair. I also think she looks plenty feminine. Just like people have trouble losing weight some have trouble gaining

      • LAK says:

Sorry easypeasy123, she didn’t start out this size, and Infact she’s a tad bigger now than she was at her wedding. This isn’t a case of someone being too thin to gain weight nor is this her usual weight.

Google pap photos of her when she was initially outed as GC’s new girlfriend circa October 2013. She is much, much heavier in those photos. All random pictures of her prior to that date show a heavier woman.

Fast forward to engagement announcement in the spring of 2014 and she’d dropped lots of pounds. And dropped more for the wedding.

  14. PunkyMomma says:

Actually, I like the look. She is SO channeling Jackie O, minus the trademark bouffant.

  15. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Her posture is really weird. She’s always leaning forward, but holding her shoulders rigidly……

  16. Barrett says:

It’s still cold in NYC. No one is jacket less, yet alone sleeveless! Cracks me up. Proves they dress for a fashion show and to be papped.

  17. Cody says:

How is it that ,New York City is such a big city and there are many famous people who live there and they never get photographed, but they seem to find her. By the way, it was cool there last few days, it has not been sleeveless weather, it is obviously staged. She is probably aiming for her own Podcast or Talk show.

  18. aang says:

I am fashion challenged but in my opinion she always looks great.

  19. Cora says:

Is that a perspiration stain I see on the top photo?

  20. lana86 says:

i hate fleshy beige, but Amal pulls it off. Actually, the fact that this outfit looks odd, sort of underlines her ability to pull it off. If that makes any sense))

  21. Guesto says:

Is that a python skin collar, or a python print one? From Gucci’s site, it appears to be a python skin one.

If the latter, so much ugh.

  22. laura says:

    NYU law
the law and practice of the UN
    an advanced course for diplomats
I taught she was lecturing at Columbia, what does that mean?

    • Cody says:

I had a good laugh when I read that. I went to Columbia Law School and actually there is no Spring Term. Finals begin in May and then most students go on to do a law internship. Some professor , who teaches a human rights couse, probably asked her to do a few lectures for their class, while they sit in the back. I doubt she is being paid or if she is , it is a guest lecture fee.

      • noway says:

According to Columbia she is a visiting senior fellow lecturing for another professor’s Human Rights course and at the Human Rights Clinic. I bet she gets paid, as visiting fellows are generally paid a lecture fee as you stated. It is funny, and nothing against your profession because others do it too, but you should read the Columbia Law School press release, boy do they pump stuff up all over the place. I read hers and a few other press releases, and if I didn’t know any better they all sound like they walk on water.

      • Nic919 says:

I like how she always carries just one binder to look professional. Most lawyers have an attaché or briefcase to store things so that they don’t get lost or damaged in the weather. She just trots around holding a binder which could probably fit in her bag to make sure we know she is important.

    • serene says:

Amal was invited to join a lecture by Sarah H.Cleveland, the Faculty Co-Director of the Human Rights Institute at Columbia. It’s one of the elective courses (“Human Rights”) that first-year students are required to take. Gets you 3 points. It’s twice a week 1h20min, for how long is unclear, perhaps even just once.

      • noway says:

She may also end up doing something at NYU as that is where she went to get her LLM. That might be why she has the NYU paper in her hand. I agree with what everyone else has said, I guess this is just something to do while George is filming in NY, and it probably isn’t very time consuming. She does seem to be following him though, and not so much the other way around.

      • serene says:

@noway: I think that was the deal, that she kind of builds her life around his. George didn’t really change. And she doesn’t seem to mind. Just a little work here and there, and then getting dolled up, and photographed in insanely expensive, ever-changing designer outfits. There’s no doubt she likes this.

    • Lori says:

If she’s going to carry around a binder to look “professional” or “important,” she should at least carry around a full binder. That binder looks like it contains about 10 pages of paper. It resembles one of those fake books on bookshelves at a furniture store – just jacket, no content. Just like her???? (well, except for the “jacket” part)

  23. wolfpup says:

I think that Amal channels Anna Wintour, and that makes Amal less beautiful to me, being a mere vessel. I like individuals!!! God no, if she got boob implants!

  24. stellar says:

The clothes are wearing her. She looks to have one foot in the grave. Yikes.

  25. Cleo says:

Staged…very Kardashian. It’s freezing here. Look at the photographers all bundled up for winter. The whole scene looks like a fashion shoot.

  26. tracking says:

It’s okay, but I enjoy seeing what she’s wearing these days.

  27. Vava says:

I like the length of the skirt, her recent dresses have been too short! Not a fan of shirt though. I like the color of it but that’s all. She looks as if she’s dropping weight….not good.

  28. BengalCat2000 says:

I was born in 1973. These colors, along with avacodo do green and bright yellow bring me great comfort. I want my house to be designed by Mike Brady. I think Amal looks
    Fab-U-Lous !

  29. Shambles says:

900$ for a BLOUSE?! Are you serious? That’s ridiculous. Idc how much money you make. That’s almost a thousand dollars for a shirt. Nah. Nope. That’s all I got.

  30. LAK says:

Like the top, hate the skirt.

  31. Ameoba says:

I don’t outright hate the look as a whole. But after I read about your opinion on the tan skirt. I see where you are coming from. I think I might even agree. Too close to her natural colouring. And the blouse is great. I liked the collar too. Only I don’t I could pull it off, great on her though.

  32. Regina Phalange (formerly Kara) says:

The “nude” skirt with “nude” shoes. No, girl.

  33. Veronica says:

I like it. It’s a cute work outfit. Looks similar to my own style. I think I might have gone for a more playful shoe, but that might be the limitations of dress code.

  34. Maya says:

I like Amal and I think she is pretty but I cannot understand why George is trying to make them look like this intelligent power couple.

There is no doubt that George is going to enter some form of government role or an ambassador for something important. But the way he pushed this relationship in our faces is making us dislike them and make us think this marriage is fake.

  35. PHD gossip says:

You know what makes zero sense to me? She is holding a loose leaf folder marked NYU Law School while her high profile gig is at Columbia! Wrong law school accessory, Amal!!

    • Chibichchai says:

NYU alum here: it actually makes sense. NYU loves celebrities on their campus or enrolled as students. It just proves the fact that they can get world class resources. It adds to NYU’s brand/cache.

I will say this, they do have a mass array of resources at their disposal. It’s not a university for someone who is indecisive; if you go to NYU, you better have a good idea of what you want to do in life.

    • Santolina says:

I call product placement! Someone is paying for every one of those recognizable brands, which extends to law schools.

  36. Dani says:

It is still waaaay too cold in NYC to wear sleeveless. I wore flats and regretted it. She must be freezing.

  37. K says:

I think the color combo suits her well, actually. It looks very retro Italian.

Orange may be a tough color to work with, but there is always a shade of yellow that will work for someone.

  38. Astrid says:

    skelator

    • Maya says:

Thin shaming is as bad as fat shaming.

      • LAK says:

Is it thin shaming when someone deliberately drops pounds VB style so they can prance around in designer clothes?

Amal was much bigger circa October 2013 when she was outed as GC’s girlfriend. She undertook the GC girlfriend makeover that also included weight loss.

Since the wedding, she’s gained back a few pounds.

  39. PefectDate says:

I thought this was Anne Hathaway on just a quick glance.
70s child here too, and these clothes are not nearly hippy enough to be called 70s. Guess must be the orange with beige coloring that recalls that era.

  40. Katie says:

She looks pale and too matchy matchy with the scenery.

  41. AG-UK says:

Well it’s better than the black
Mini dress where her legs are about the size of some peoples arms. It’s freezing there she will have pneumonia. I know many who go bare legged in winter but sleeveless?

  42. tealily says:

    Disagree. Love it.

  43. Tracy says:

I disagree– I think the color combo looks great. I do wish she’d add 10 pounds though.

  44. Guesto says:

I can’t find much to love about a woman who thinks wearing an endangered species is attractive. She has also worn other python pieces (a clutch and a pair of boots) on another recent NY outing so it’s not a one-off. So plainly someone who has no concerns for the utterly barbaric journey the python goes through to feed her passion.

That combined with her love of fur says something really unpleasant about her.

  45. real lawyer says:

Obviously, she does not file or go to court a lot, just by looking at those shoes. I work for a law firm and between meeting with clients, other co workers, filing and going to court, no way could I get through the day with those shoes. Why is she always photographed carrying a folder? Does that make her look important.? With such a big bag I would put the folder in it.

    • Cora says:

She’s carrying a binder that says “NYU Law” on it. I think that’s deliberate. She wants that photographed so it will be part of the story they write about her. The whole thing is staged as heck.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Exactly. I wear heels but a good inch lower and when walking outside, I wear flats and quickly change upon arrival. Also, NEVER sleeveless!

  46. The first time I saw her name, I thot it was a typo. Amal looks sharp in this outfit, she has plucked her eyebrows.

  47. Santolina says:

In terms of color seasons, she’s a Winter and this Autumn-inspired palette does not complement her skin tone, making her look almost sickly. Alimooney’s fashion sense needs work. George, your contract wife needs a new stylist. Truck someone in!

Wake me up when the next pap walk shows her wearing something dignified and flattering.

    • idontknowyouyoudontknowme says:

She is definitely deep/dark, could be either Winter or Autumn imo (and dark winters can get away with some autumn colors). I think the orange works, the skirt is too light.

She is definitely warmer than maximally cool

  48. Anguishedcorn says:

Amazing. Really, that’s an incredible look.

  49. sherlockapple says:

I think she looks very pretty. Certain colors look better on people than others; I get that. It may not be her “best” look…but gawd, I’d love that whole outfit from head to toe!

  50. Jonesy says:

She’s looking more and more like Joan Crawford. Yikes!

    • noway says:

+1000 I never noticed before. Maybe Joan Crawford is too old of a reference, but she looks more like Joan than Jackie O.

  51. Granger says:

I admit it, I’m really disappointed with how staged this photo is. It makes me feel crappy for naively defending all the other pics of her and the Cloonster that have come out recently. I’ve been had, and I don’t like it.

  52. Sophie says:

    I can’t stand this girl.

I agree with the above poster who said she looks like she’s impersonating a lawyer! I myself am an actual professional with an advanced degree and a challenging, highly technical job with a lot of responsibility. I wear practical, comfortable clothes so I can get through my 12 hour days. Are we supposed to believe she’s dressed like that to spend long hours in an office pouring over the documents in that binder? For gods sake how hard could she possibly be working when she’s obviiusly spending hours in hair and makeup in the morning. If have to get up at 3am to look like that and still make it in to the office on time!

    • siri says:

And yet, there are plenty of women who would tell you that she is a good role model for their daughters. I get angry when I read this. Good education, YES!, striving to become independent, YES! But what SHE is doing is simply using Clooney/his name to enhance an already doctored resume, and acting the professional woman. Her chamber uses her for attracting more wealthy clients by putting her on ‘prestigious’ cases, but without much impact. And she doesn’t seem to mind, which is fine by me, just don’t sell her as a hard working legal professional. I happen to know plenty, they don’t have time, or energy, for this kind of show.

      • Nic919 says:

I am a lawyer and my friends who are lawyers are laughing at this nonsense. If you are practicing full time you don’t have time to go on vacation like she does. And working “from home” so much for someone about 5 years out is also bs. If she was in trial or prepping for it, she would not have time to pose for photos.
Siri is right in that her chambers is using her for publicity, because most lawyers with less than 5 years get no media attention and are still doing heavy leg work to learn the practice.

Daughters should be told that being a lawyer is actually hard work and not glamourous, although some can be stylish at the office. But it is a grind and not what you see on tv or as posed by Amal.

    • Lori says:

To continue the Mad Men reference, she much more of a Joan (Holloway) Harris than a Peggy Olson. In part, that’s because she can actually *afford* the clothes at the contemporary equivalent of Bonwit Teller and B. Altman (or, at least affords them with the designers’ “generosity”). It’s also clear that she is using her sexuality, or at least her status as a wife to a rich and famous man, to get ahead. She’s no role model for girls if she is reduced to an object to advance in her profession through social climbing, rather than undertaking the hard work and sacrifices required of most “human rights” lawyers.

  53. db says:

I don’t dislike it, put it that way. And really, sleeveless? It was pretty raw and rainy yesterday

  54. Sara says:

Horribly staged, and the way she’s flaunting her binder is embarrassing. She’s ridiculous.

    • Zombie Shortcake says:

      This x 1000

She is the rich version of Phoebe Price

      (Phoebe does it better)

  55. Leslie says:

Those are my favorite colors, and I love the style of the outfit. However, I could never afford a $900 blouse even for a special occasion. Yes, they’re staged photos of her pretending to be a lawyer.

  56. captain says:

Skirt is amazing and perfect in every way, I want it now! Length, cut, belt – everything is perfect. Shirt looks great on her, but not my taste really. I like orange, but detest snake and leopard prints. Just personal preferences.. Though the collar matches the skirt beautifully.

The shoes I’m not sure about. I don’t like the colour. I don’t know what I would have liked there. Suede olive? White? Perhaps. Or not. But these are wrong.

  57. Mika302 says:

If this pic is yesterday, it was nice out. Yesterday was almost 70, today is 47.

    • cleo says:

It was freezing out in NYC yesterday! I was wearing a heavy wool coat and skirt and I still had to go buy thermal tights at the drug store. Just look at the everyone else on the street!

  58. Snappyfish says:

    I like the bag

  59. Zombie Shortcake says:

I think, overall, her style is more Carrie Bradshaw at her most clownish, than Jackie O or CBK.

  60. hannahf says:

I actually like her style perhaps because I’m a pretty conservative dresser. I’m also an attorney. As a solo practitioner I can wear whatever I want to the office–yesterday was yoga pants. Typically, unless I have court, I dress like she does and try to have fun. With respect to binders, I keep my case files in them as I find them easier to organize/use in court. If the case is in the beginning stages I’ll carry just the binder and ditch the briefcase on wheels. In terms of time spent away from the office, when I worked for a firm we were kept on a pretty short leash. When you have to bill a MINIMUM of 40 hours per week (not the same as working 40 hours) your time is not your own. Now that I’m self-employed, no work=no income.

And yeah, staged pics. It’s not even warm enough to dress like that in LA

  61. khaveman says:

I love how everyone around her in the photo is in a large coat, but she’s all “It’s summer!” with her hot orange, sleeveless top. So weird.

  62. LaurieH says:

I like it. I would totally wear that. Then again, I was around in the 70’s.

  63. hmmm says:

She has starkly veiny feet. All the rest is bushwah.

  64. Jag says:

I thought she looked nice until I realized that she has a dead snake around her neck. Ugh!

  65. India says:

She really does look like Joan Crawford.
