Kendall Jenner ‘always’ wanted to be a model: ‘What else would I be doing?’

Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner covers the May issue of GQ. Add this to the growing pile of magazine covers. So far this month, Kendall’s covered Bazaar’s subscriber issue and starred in Vogue’s new Brat Pack feature. She’s the new It girl, like it or not. This GQ shoot is typically cheesecake, and you can see the whole thing here. Lots of underboob and nips. The interview is titled, “Keezus,” and the journo (Zach Baron) describes Kendall as the Kardashian’s “most refined product yet.” Which is very sly. GQ is saying Kendall isn’t all natural (she’s probably had a subtle nose job), yet she doesn’t get carried away like her sisters.

This interview is interesting, mostly because Kendall talks about how she never chose this life. But she’s no longer opposed to the khaos. She also insists that producers don’t shape the family reality shows, and everything you see is real:

Her unusual/normal life: “My life was always different growing up. I mean, even before the show, my dad was who he is. He’s an Olympic athlete. And we were going to premieres, like Finding Nemo premieres, and we would be little kids, like, before the show, walking down the red carpet. It’s really weird. I understand that it’s not normal. But it is normal.”

On the ending of KUWTK: “It’s actually really hard for me to think of. But that day will come, and it’ll be fine. Everything that happens is still going to happen, just minus the cameras.”

She and Kylie are different: Her mother and sisters chose this life. But “me and my little sister were placed in. We didn’t have a say. It was in our home. There was no way we couldn’t be on it. I was 10 years old when the TV show started. I don’t remember what it was like before.”

The show isn’t scripted: “It’s completely me. It’s all real, so when there’s a story line, it’s all done after the fact that we’ve filmed, because that’s obviously how it makes sense, because that’s just how it actually happened.”

Why she became a model: “I didn’t do it because I felt like I had to prove something. This is a career that I’ve always wanted. And I mean, what else would I be doing? I probably would have gone to school to get the degree to go to work, when work was already there.”

[From GQ]

Maybe Kendall’s storyline is completely authentic, and that’s what she’s getting at. The show IS shaped, characters are written, and yeah, there’s some obvious scripting. The Kardashian’s aren’t actors, and it shows. But they’re fascinating to the public. There’s no denying that fact.

There are a couple of weird stories about Kendall at Coachella last weekend. Both tales involve Justin Bieber, who got kicked out on Sunday night. E! says that a pre-chokehold Bieber threw an enormous fit because staff wouldn’t let Kendall (19) into a 21+ party. They found the Nylon party instead, and Justin started “grinding” on model Josie Conseco. Bieber treated Kendall “like a hanger-on,” and “she left crying, saying, ‘Justin’s a d-bag.’” Ha.

“What else would I be doing?” Oh Kendall…don’t make it so easy for us

  2. Elisabeth says:

Momma Jenner didn’t raise no fool, nor did she raise any rocket scientists either

  3. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Sigh. Hopeless. I guess nobody wants to use education as a means of self-enrichment or pleasure anymore. Why can’t she be a model and still get a degree in something that interests her? Learning should be a lifelong treasure, but she thinks it’s fine to just stop at 17. Sad, really.

    • Kitten says:

It’s downright depressing I tell you.

And so Josie Conseco is Jose Conseco’s daughter and also a model?
All these rich celebuspawns with no discernible talent or skills. SMH.

      • Bridget says:

I can’t get over that. Josie Conseco. All I can picture is Jose with long hair and in a dress.

    • Snazzy says:

Pathetic. This is the new generation of celebrity and the world is less because of it

    • Cindy says:

“get a agree in something that interests her”

I don’t think anything does interest her, which is why she and her whole family are so depressing.

  4. Shambles says:

Rage. Rage rage. “I mean, what else would I be doing? I probably would have gone to school to get the degree to go to work, when work was already there.”

Why you entitled, out of touch, spoiled little…
She might as well have said “why would I have gone to school so that I could contribute something meaningful to the world, when I was born into a wealthy and famous family so all I really need to do to support myself is look pretty?”

As this college semester comes to a close, I’m literally at my wits end trying to get everything done and the stress of school is making me physically sick. So I’m extremely insulted by this useless brat. F*ck this family and everything they stand for.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      *peeks head around corner*

You will be the one who triumphs in the end. You are fighting for your future and improving your mind. You will be a better, stronger and wiser person for this fight. Hang tough.

      *ducks back around corner*

      • Shambles says:

Ily GoodNames, and your persistent value of knowledge, education, and beige booty shorts. I needed that. *internet hugz*

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Hugs back, wearing beige booty shorts, but not dancing as that might push you over the edge.

      • Sabrine says:

She’s making good money. Why on earth would she work a 9 to 5? There’s absolutely no reason for her to do that if she doesn’t have to. It sounds like people think that’s just what she should be doing….jealous perhaps? She can improve her mind anytime in many different ways. Right now while she’s young and on top she’s being hired for top of the line everything, photo shoots, magazine covers, product lines…..she’s got a nice little bank account by now securing her future….duh.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Sabrine, you have completely missed the point. First of all, I wasn’t implying that she should work 9-5 at a desk job. I’m saying that getting an education is MORE than having the ability to get a 9-5 job, that learning is about more than working, it’s about expanding your mind and growing your world. I have no problem with her being a model. I have a problem with her, and your, disregard for education. So, she will have lots of money. And she’ll meet different people, the best of whom will be bored after talking to her for five minutes because she stopped learning anything new at 17 years old. She will be an ignorant, uneducated, shallow, boring person with money, living a superficial life, contributing nothing of value to the world. Yes, you can improve your mind in ways other than a formal education, but she doesn’t have the foundation or the inclination for such improvement. She’ll be a as dumb at forty as she is at 17. Money isn’t everything, Sabrine. It doesn’t enrich your mind or make you a better person. And your attitude is really sad. She’ll have money, so who needs a brain or a personality? Duh…yourself. And no, I’m not jealous. I pity her. And you.

      • Kitten says:

Ugh. I just can’t with the “she doesn’t have to, so why should she?” argument, as if wealth is the singular motivation for everything, the only driving force in this world.

These are teenagers who dropped out of private school so they could be home-schooled in order to “further their careers”. These are kids who were born into money, and will eventually have an enviable inheritance. It’s not like Kendall is just some pretty girl who happened upon the modeling industry and seized the chance to hustle and pay for her college tuition. Kendall was born with every opportunity and every resource in the world at her fingertips, the world is her f*cking oyster, and she could do things that so many of us can only dream of, but NO she wants to be in magazines like her big sister Kim.

It’s fine if that’s the path she chooses, but let’s not pretend that she’s some 19-year-old who has grand aspirations, who’s modeling career is just a stepping stone and part of some larger plan in life.

She asked the question “what else would I do?” and people here made suggestions. But really, it was just a rhetorical question, because it seems the fate of every female born into this family to end up as a commodity for their mother to peddle to the masses.

      • lui says:

i have to agree with Sabrine.

    • lucy2 says:

Keep fighting through it, because in the end you will have an invaluable education and life experience, and she will…not.

    • Cindy says:

Please don’t despair! Your mind and soul are infinitely more valuable than reality tv would lead us to believe. You are doing what matters even if no one sees it.

    • HK9 says:

Soldier on. When I did my degree I know at this time of year I felt like I was in a marathon with no end. It does end, and when you get there, the knowledge and continued emotional maturity will be something that no one can take away. There’s a bright future ahead and it’s yours.

    • EG says:

@shambles: solidarity here for the stress and the struggle to contribute something of value to the world. I finished my masters degree in public health last fall while working full time and taking care of my one year old boy. Many times during graduate school I thought I would lose my sanity–it felt like such a huge sacrifice. Now that I have my degree I have more opportunities and more knowledge that can help transform the way we take care of vulnerable populations. It’s hard work, but I wouldn’t trade this life for a shallow vapid existence like that of the Kardashian Jenners. I am grateful to them for providing entertainment for us all, but I would NEVER want to trade lives with any of them. You will finish school and have time and space to breathe! I promise!

    • Justaposter says:

Shambles, breathe honey, breathe! It’s almost over.

And do not give free rent space in your head away. Don’t worry about what other people (especially ones you don’t even know) are doing/not doing. Worry about yourself.

So like I said, breathe, be still fora moment, then go kick some ass for your finals! Focus on things that really matter! Not some people you only read about.

*said lovingly from a Mamma Bear type*

    • Shambles says:

I could cwy! I love you all! Thank you so much for the encouraging words and support. Just what I needed to muster up the strength for one more week. And then it’s Pink Ladies (raspberry lemonade and vodka, first cocktail I legally ordered) for everyone!

    • Ange says:

Eh, she doesn’t want to get a degree so better she doesn’t take a spot away from someone who does. She can always learn independently (ha! But you never know) or go later if she wants. Yes education is valuable but only in the right hands. For this girl right now it would be wasted.

  5. Amy says:

…to be completely frank she’s a rather average looking girl to me.

So her question is such…easy bait.

None the less I’ve written off the whole family, Bruce included. They’ve got fame and media in a back alley and they’re working it like pro’s.

    • FingerBinger says:

She’s pretty in a generic way.

      • bella says:

i’m fascinated when i read posts on how ordinary or generic looking kendall is.
        and i read it often…
i think she’s extraordinarly beautiful with a major “IT” factor.
true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?

      • Zwella Ingrid says:

IMO most “It” girls have some sort of exotic look. Some different something that makes them unique. She seems totally generic to me without any special something, but obviuosly others are seeing something I am not.

      • bella says:

        @zwella
yes, i absolutely agree that the IT factor brings uniqueness, exoticism…
the difference is that i see this in kendall, while you and others obvsioulsy don’t agree.
she has an allure in the expression in her eyes…that i find extraordinary.
        just beautiful.
i must add that i think this family, starting with kris jenner, is vile, exploitive, shallow and materialistic.
but i still believe kendall is an extraodinary beauty…

      • Timbuktu says:

        Bella,
I don’t really follow fashion and definitely don’t know any “it” girls by name. So, the way I measure it for myself is this: do I recognize her face? If I do, then she is striking in my book, because I usually do not know anything else about the model, like, I wouldn’t be interested in her because of her famous Mom or Dad or boyfriend. If I don’t, then I consider her a generic pretty face.
I’ve been coming to Celebitchy for weeks, and they cover her stories often, and yet, to this day, every time they say her name, I can’t remember who she is or what she looks like. I think Kim has a more unique look, quite frankly, as much as I don’t like her overall.

      • FingerBinger says:

@bella Beauty can be subjective. I think she’s very pretty but nothing about her stands out. If she wasn’t Kendall Jenner ,Kim Kardashian’s sister she would be in Sears catalogs not on the GQ cover.

      • Livealot says:

I agree with Bella. I truly believe she would have become a model with or without her name. Same with Gigi. Saw GIgi on a billboard and she was stunning. It was only after did I discover her family ties. You can’t discredit the “talent” just because of family ties.

      • Amy says:

        @Timbuktu

The way I judge is I imagine myself going through folders of different models auditioning for a job and if I saw Kendall’s work (close ups of her face while doing runway) and pictures of her totally bare without makeup I’d keep flipping.

She has no special or unique features, nothing exotic, no charm that peeks through her average features. I fully agree beauty is in the eye of the beholder Bella, I just feel like other girls have done the Kendall Jenner look better than Kendall Jenner. For example Makeupbyevon did a Kendall Jenner look and it struck me how much more exotic she looked with the exact same basic features.

Gigi Hadid and Cara DeLivingne both come from money and both likely had their careers subsidized by their parents but they’re still unique enough I could see why they’re successful. Kendall seems so incredibly forgettable. But beauty is individual and we all find beauty in different facets of a person.

    • annaloo. says:

I agree. She looks like a lobotomized Angie Harmon, not a Linda Evangelista

    • Hannah says:

I’m glad people are realizing the ENTIRE family is useless and bad for society. People were being apologetic for Kendall for a while there and I was getting worried but I should have known she would ruin it as soon as she opened her mouth.

  6. Franca says:

What else would she be doing? Going to school? The horror.

  7. Loopy says:

But I remember a few years ago Kim was trying to pressure her into modeling and she was against it,i guess she changed her mind.

    • Vava says:

I saw that show, too. (ducks head in shame.) Kendall didn’t always want to be a model. She lied.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

What could she be doing? Getting a education to better her mind and prepare her for a career that extends beyond age 30 AND contributes to society in some way?

    • Bea says:

Does the society really need Kendull’s contributions though? I think it’s better to see her in magazines that can and will be forgotten when the next one comes out.

    • Beth says:

Her sisters are in their 30’s and are as vapid as hell. Her mother is almost 60, and besides some business savvy and knowing how to exploit her kids, is equally as vapid. And the shocker is they continue to make a profit from their shallow, vacuous ways. So I doubt turning 30 is going to be some turning point for Kendall to improve herself. When her modeling career is coming to an end, so will probably try designing pursues or some half-ass fashion line. Or she will marry a rich guy and ensure her share of his money by getting pregnant.

  9. BooBooLaRue says:

    So effortlessly talentless.

  10. taterho says:

The stupidity in this family is making my ears pop.

  11. GingerCrunch says:

Huge sigh from me as well. And can I just say that this Coachella thing looks more and more ridiculous every year. WTF?

    • Skyblue says:

Ha ha ha! I agree. I love music festivals but the pictures coming out coachella make me cringe.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Coachella makes me angry. I realize this is my problem, but something about all those people dressing up like assholes for a day and thinking they are hippies just ticks me off. I need to examine my inner life or something.

  12. minx says:

She just looks vacant. Nothing behind the eyes.

  13. Jayna says:

I think Gigi Hadid is more of the “it” girl in modeling right now as far as the new young models than Kendall.

  14. Talie says:

Yes, she is the one to benefit the most, thus far. Kim and Kris and the others took a lot of the hits and she has glided right into the gilded cage. Of course, it helps when you are 5’11, thin and beautiful.

  15. Serena says:

I like Kendall more than the rest of the women in her family. She didn’t come off as fame and attention hungry as the rest of the family.
She is good looking but for me (just my opinion) is something special missing. And she always looks the same. Her eyes always have the same expression. Vacant. Boring.
If thats what she always wanted it’s nice that her dream came true. But you can’t deny that without the name she wouldn’t have come so far.
But it disappoints me that she has work done too, pretty sure nose and lips and more?
And the show is so scripted it hurts. Perhaps not so much her part.

    • TeaAndSympathy says:

Serena: I really don’t pay much attention to these people, but they are everywhere and very hard to avoid. Lately, I’ve wondered obout Kendull, though… I’ve seen her nose discussed a lot on here, but have always wondered about the lips, too. Perhaps she’s got a special magic with lip liners, too…

  16. Allie says:

I agree that while I think she’s pretty, she always has a vacant state. That being said, that one picture where she’s pointing and has her mouth open, holy crap is that unflattering. I get they were trying for a silly/sexy photo, they failed. Just so awkward.

  17. OTHER RENEE says:

Shambles, you will be able to take pride in the fact that you did it on your own and contributed something useful to the planet. Been there. The struggle makes the education all that more meaningful.

  18. word says:

I hate how they keep trying to make us believe their show isn’t scripted. There have been “leaked” scripts from their show. There has been “leaked” audio of producers instructed them on what to do and say in their ear pieces. There was video proof of them “re-shooting” scenes. Also, the show has bad continuity. You can see where they filmed 2 or 3 episodes in the same day because they will have the same outfit, make-up, and hair. In one scene the sisters are fighting and not talking and in another scene they are setting Khloe up on blind dates (wearing the same damn outfits they wore during the episode they got into a huge “fight” and didn’t talk for a week). Come on now.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Considering one of my friends used to write for this show, I found her blatant lie to be pretty insulting.

  19. Vampi says:

” I probably would have gone to school to get the degree to go to work, when work was already there.”
    Wha-????
Is it just me or does that sentence not make any kind of sense? Ugh. Go back to school and get “the” degree and “work where the work is already there”
    *head explodes*

  20. cheryl says:

I find the photoshop of the below the crotch area seriously disturbing.

  21. mytbean says:

They are not fascinating to me any more than billboards on the freeway in rush hour traffic. If I’m idle and bored then I’m going to end up looking at some of them because they are everywhere and there’s nothing else that’s so abundant.

I AM fascinated however with the people who DO seem fascinated by them. The Kardashians are famous for literally nothing but simply being known. I just can’t fathom this attention for getting attention. None of them, including Kendall, are particularly attractive. None of them are even entertaining. I just don’t get it… :/

  22. Hannah says:

She would have gone to school to work so it really is all about money for them. They just don’t value education and it shows. Besides, she wouldn’t be intelligent enough to make a lot of money from an academic career.

  23. paola says:

What the hell is Fergie doing holding hands with Kendall?

  24. TeaAndSympathy says:

It’s a lad’s mag, Kendull. Even in the second-last photo she thinks she’s on a runway. I guess that’s one thing she’s learned thoroughly – to always be camera-ready with the “look”…

  25. Nikkisixx says:

This ones the most self-aware out of all of them. She’s right, what is her brainless tarty dumbass going to do besides stand there and look pretty? She doesn’t even have emotional intelligence as it clearly doesn’t convey in her work.

    • Mean Hannah says:

I actually took her “what else would I be doing” comment to be surprisingly self-aware and smart. Seriously, what else could she be doing? I am personally of an opinion that college is not a right, rather a privilege, and that not everyone should – or need – to go. Let’s face it. Most people go to college to make money and if you are lucky, for a career (not a job). She got both and she didn’t have to marry/get knocked up for it, which would have been her only way. Her parents’ money would not have gotten her very far. Lets’s not pretend she had some potential for something bigger or more grand than modeling.

      • Bob Loblaw says:

Most people go to college because their parents expect them to, maybe money and career play into it but most people I know went to college because of their parents.

  26. serena says:

So I guess Selena Gomez is off to another boobjob to get that little douche’s attention, by now.

  27. Sean says:

Well, the escorting pays her well too.

  28. Joh says:

    All sizzle, no steak.
She is a pretty girl in a world of millions of breathtakingly gorgeous girls.
When the K name fades so will her “career”

  29. Ellie says:

I preferred when it was models and not substandard reality stars children on the catwalk and in magazines. Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Gisele Bundchen….. They had exceptional looks that kept you looking and the talent, drive and intelligence to get where they are by themselves, not foisted on the public by their families!

This girl is so boring to look at. Tedious just like her awful famewhoring family.

  30. Barbara says:

Like get an education. My grandchild went to college BEFORE signing up to a modeling agency.

  31. Cobra says:

Whats with the last photo? It looks like she posed with her legs open. Just my dirty mind??
She looks a lot like actress Jacinda Barrett. Just looks, Jacinda is actually talented.

  32. Wolf says:

The uneducated ask such dumb questions.

  33. Norman Garza says:

This is why no one takes Kendall seriously. She believes that her modeling career is owed to her, that she in entitled to it. She is beautiful but she knows that she gets modelling jobs by name only. Did you think Kendall came to Coachella to listen to the music? Hell no, she came to socialize with her similarly privileged friends in a secluded spot and y’all know she did not had a lousy time, you can see through that.

  34. Jonathan says:

What else could she do with her life? SOMETHING. Contributing *anything* of worth to society. Helping people less fortunate than herself. Getting a f*cking CLUE.

Being a model isn’t doing anything. It’s wearing clothes and being photographed or walking down a runway. Appearance is not doing something.

  35. Wheeze says:

“It’s actually really hard for me to think of. But that day will come, and it’ll be fine. Everything that happens is still going to happen, just minus the cameras.”

Really, Kendall? If the cameras were switched off, I think your family would wither away like a plant without sunlight.

They’re all mentally unwell and live in a parallel universe where posing takes up all levels on the Hierarchy of Needs. None of them have a single brain cell. If social media, Kim’s $ex tape, and greedy designer brands trying to attract bogans did not exist, Kendall would not have a career. The only people who pay any attention to them are those people whose key to fulfilment in life is humblebragging by posting photos of their abs, Gucci bags, and organic smoothies and repost highly intellectual quotes like “If Britney can make it through 2007, you can make it through the day” in a genuine effort to engage with their followers (a real life example; this particular person was 100% serious in uploading the quote). I can’t believe the idiocracy that’s arisen out of the Kardashian-Jenner-social-media empire. Waste some time checking out their (real) followers and you’ll see what I mean. Incredibly stupid people.
