Tom Hardy looked grumpy, under-dressed at Cinema-Con: would you hit it?

Here are some photos from the big CinemaCon event in Las Vegas yesterday. CinemaCon used to be called something else, but the goal is always the same: it’s a chance for big celebrities to come to Vegas and schmooze with theater-chain owners and big-wigs. Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron and Nicholas Hoult were all there to schmooze for Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom doesn’t look too pleased, right? Some of the celebrities actually dressed up for this “exclusive presentation” last night, but not Tom. Even Hoult looks like he’s just wearing street clothes too. Still… Tom Hardy is the business. I think it’s the intensity of his gaze. I can tell he doesn’t want to be there, so he’s still giving a dirty gaze to the cameras. Mm… the business.

Meanwhile, people are still talking about Child 44 and how it majorly bombed at the box office for its opening weekend. Child 44 opened worldwide with a debut of… $2 million. That’s in all markets. The film cost $50 million to make, although we can’t really say that the studio spared no expense to promote it. Tom barely promoted it, Gary Oldman was MIA and Noomi Rapace did what she could. Long story short: Tom Hardy can’t open a movie. He can be the best supporting part of a big franchise film, but he can’t open a movie. Yet. I don’t think Tom will have to wear the failure of Child 44… yet. We’ll see what happens with Mad Max box office.

I do feel like Tom could choose better projects too… he doesn’t have to do rom-coms in Hollywood or anything, but he’s considered one of the best actors of his generation, but he just doesn’t pick the best projects.

PS… Charlize’s dress is Alexandre Vauthier.

    I might… he’s a little too short for me.

    • Barth says:

Maybe he isn’t that tall but he definitely is the most impressing one. I admire this guy; his attitude, skills and humor. He’s real.

    • Tristan says:

Make up your mind fast, otherwise you’ll get pushed out of the queue super fast! I’d hit it & never stop 😜

  2. What was that says:

He is probably jet lagged and not looking forward to dealing with Charlize.
    Well it’s one theory anyway!!!

    • FingerBinger says:

Apparently Tom isn’t known for being a gentle breeze himself. Maybe Charlize isn’t looking forward to dealing with him.

      • Abbott says:

He doesn’t seem to always get a long with people on set (Shia, whoever is directing The Revenant, Charlize) but he’s somehow managed not to be labelled as difficult.

      • Bea says:

Yeah he’s a dude. It takes men way longer to reach the ‘difficult’ phase.

      • Tara says:

Charlize is actually easy to work with and professional on set. Tom is the difficult one. Not only did he clash with Charlize but the director. Of course he’s a man so that means he’s just a cool, edgy actor and he gets away with it.

  3. jen2 says:

He looks like hell. Hoult looks best and I don’t even care for him. Theron looks the same as she always does, just don’t like the hair curtain.

  4. Lola says:

I like Tom. I would (I like a man with tattoos – depending on the tattoos of course) He looks tired.

  5. PunkyMomma says:

    Yeah I’d still hit it.

  6. Lucy says:

    That’s a lovely LBD.

  7. Coco says:

He looks hungover. He is sexy though.

    • Janet says:

I think he must have a giant jet-lag hopping over the planet like he does. He looks sexy as hell though!! Our new Mad Max!

  8. mark says:

He needs to pick better projects are you joking? Just because a movie about child murder in russia didn’t open well?

Mad Max is a big blockbuster movie that will probably do well and locke is a actor movie that got a great response.

  9. Tara says:

He is an arrogant jerk in his interviews and admits to being difficult yet gets a pass because he’s a man. Whereas a woman like Charlize gets ripped apart if she’s not even smiling for a photo.

    • Tiffany says:

Yep. You get what you put into your work. His films are bombing and he is not taking initiative to fix it. If HW wants to continue throwing money at him so be it.

      • Carol says:

Only his last film bombed and definitely not because of his acting skills. He (and Repace) was a delight in Child 44! The man is bloody awesome. He has it in his bones. And if you knew him just a little bit better you would have known he’s NOT a jerk AT ALL…

  10. meme says:

anytime, anywhere. tom hardy has the hotness despite his continuing efforts to fight it.

  11. Babitt says:

He isn’t grumpy (search for the interview on Youtube…he’s totally cool) and he looks like the one and only Tom Hardy: what you see is what you get!

  12. Kitten says:

He needs a shave and some hair. Where is Dessert Hardy? That’s my favorite flavor.

    • Babitt says:

Well, he came back like this from filming The Revenant….it will grow back and he will use a razor one beautiful day!

  13. 'P'enny says:

from what i read it’s not Tom, so much, but the awful string of Russian accents. Believe me, Tom will be able to open a movie if the film is right. Locke did really well for an indie and just him in a car. Hardy is going places.

  14. taterho says:

There’s a bunch of competition out there for the “good projects”. I think many of the great actors out there are picking weird.
Robert Downey Jr. That Judge movie
Christian Bale Exodus – get outta here
Jeff Bridges and his ghost cop movie soon after getting the oscar nod.
Matt Damon and his zoo ( it was sort of cute though)
the list could go on forever. Johnny Depp has basically given up.
Tom is still (don’t hit me!) second tier. He has to pick through what the other’s discard. Great actor and his parts will get better. You are right though. He has to show he can open a movie first before he gets the good stuff.

I shudder to say that Bradley Cooper is the only one hitting it out of the park at the moment.

  15. Bea says:

Nick Hoult looks downright edible with that beard and his new tamed brows. Beautiful man.

  16. amberj says:

The tattoos are killing me in a really, REALLY, good way.

  17. Ferdinand says:

Even if he’s one of the greatest in this generation he still doesn’t seem as bankable. His major movies are all Christopher Nolan films which did great box office wise.

But most of his alone movies didn’t do well. (The drop, Warrior, etc) not even in romcoms (this means war) which is sad because he is an amazing actor. He does well in all of his papers but yeah, he could choose better projects. He might learn someday, hopefully he’ll learn it soon.

  18. kitty-bye says:

I cannot do that mustache and beard no no no! Must go! I gag, Idk why.

  19. Renée says:

He’s interesting; he has the courage to set high standards. I admire the guy and he’s more talented than the majority out there.
