Sandra Bullock has dogs who are each missing legs, named Ruby and Poppy

As we’ve heard, Sandra Bullock has been named People’s Most Beautiful of 2014, which is a great choice. You may not have noticed, but ever since last summer, when Sandra was the victim of a break-in to her home by a crazed fame, she’s laid low. As far as I can find, she hasn’t attended an event since that harrowing incident, and she’s rarely caught out by the paparazzi. She’s also beefed up security at her home and has a new, majestic German Shepherd dog for protection. So this People cover represents a return to the public of sorts for Sandra and she really delivers. I had the chance to read the full print article and she gives a lot of great quotes. My favorite part was where they revealed that she has two dogs who are each missing legs. (It’s not stated if they’re rescue pups, but I’m assuming they are.) Here’s more, and this is just a small segment of the interview that’s in the print edition of People:

You have a two and three-legged dog. What’s beautiful about them?
That they have no idea anything is missing! Ruby is missing her two front legs, but she walks upright like we do, and that’s exactly how she goes to the bathroom as well. It’s like watching a drunk sailor. Poppy, the three-legger, thinks she’s a pit bull. If a man gets within five feet of me, she goes after him. She has no idea she’s only 9 lbs.

What do you worry about now?
Am I the mother my son deserves? And am I living my authentic life, and I good enough, working hard enough, am I able to keep my son safe? Did I pick up all the dog poop in the yard before the playdate? Worrying used to be very paralyzing for me, and now I can talk myself off the ledge. Louis is the one who snapped me out of it… everything I’ve learned about love I’ve learned from Louis, and that is there is no such thing as being done loving. We have a lot of it.

What have you embraced over the years when it comes to your appearance?
I’ve never been a great beauty. I’ve never been the bombshell that was coveted. In an odd way, that made growing older a lot easier in this business. I guess I’m doing it on my own terms, and that is my wish for everyone.

You once said there’s something sexy about a belly. Do you still feel that way?
Oh yes, on both men and women. Do you really want to date someone that has a more ripped body than you, who has a smaller waist? I’m like, I don’t want someone with a 12-pack, I mean if it comes, okay. But I like a little bit of beef.

Last time I cried [note: this is from a sidebar]
Last night. Every night I cry. Literally at the end of the day, there are some tears. It’s mostly joy. It’s just a release.

[From People, print edition, May 4, 2015]

Where are the pictures of these dogs?! She needs to bring them out and carry them around, like Jessica Chastain does with her pup with the missing leg.

There’s so much more in the interview and People even has more online. She cracks jokes about the rumors that she’s going to adopt another child, saying “I’d appreciate a heads-up on the details so I can pick up some supplies” and she says that she doesn’t usually wear makeup unless she’s going out at night. Sandra also reveals that she kept the spacesuit from Gravity and pledges “one of these days it’s going to get worn in the carpool lane at school.”

As for when she feels most beautiful, Sandra says it’s in “the role of mother” because she doesn’t “feel beautiful in anything I’ve acted in” and prefers not to see herself on screen. It’s kind of nice to hear that even gorgeous celebrity women are insecure, but it’s also somewhat sad. This isn’t a Blake Lively type of humble brag, I buy that she really does feel this way.

Update: Here’s a photo with Sandra and one of her dogs in 2005.

I get a genuine vibe from her. I don’t think she’s full of it. She does seem dedicated to her son and thankfully she has a good sense of humor.

    • Jegede says:

      Agreed.
But I always find it odd that Sandra dated Matthew McCougnahey (sp) for such a long time.

They just seem so chalk and cheese. Then and now.

Maybe I’m still trying to convince myself of a love affair with her other co-star, Keanu Reeves.

      • Jayna says:

Really? I get it back then. They were both from Texas and had that casual, laid-back, unpretentious sensibility.

She and Ryan Gosling when he was in his early 20s threw me. But they were together quite a while.

      • boredblond says:

I can’t believe she was married to that Jesse James guy..but I’ve always liked her and her work. More than once I’ve seen Julia Roberts in a film and thought Sandra B would’ve been so much better in that role…

      • Jegede says:

        @Jayna –
I actually felt he and more in sync and chemistry with his other Time To Kill co-star, Ashley Judd, tbh.

I know they had a fling, but I would have guessed of the two women she would have been the longer relationship not Sandra.

Seriously I love her so much!!

    Ruby and Poppy:

She had some cute stories on Ellen about Ruby trying to get up and down stairs. Too lazy to look it up.

    • Jayna says:

Aw, that’s so cute. Thanks for the link.

Less Kim Kardashian and more Sandra Bullocks, please, on here.

I asked CB for more animal centric posts after the Jenna Dewan rescue dogs article last weekish. This is right in line with what I hope to see more of <3

Love Ms Bullock, her son Louis and her furry babies; so much authenticity here (IMHO)

Keep viewing, keep commenting CB readers – I keep hearing that that is where our power lies.

        Thanks Celebitchy for listening 🙂

It’s a pity that some Duggars are on the same cover page as she is….

  5. lana86 says:

there is a serbian saying “a man with no belly is like a sky with no stars” :DD. Im not into 6pack either

  6. Jayna says:

I think she is such a catch and would make a great mate. After all that loser put her through, I would love for her to find a great partner in life the next time she falls in love, not some narcissistic Hollywood type, because the guy who ends up with her would be so lucky.

She looks amazing at her age and natural because her face moves. Whatever she is doing is spot on. Less is more in doing little things to look like a fresher version of yourself as you get older. And a stunning complexion is one of the best things to achieve as you age with all the great things out there to keep it glowing and minimizing lines, instead of cheek implants and overuse of filler for the cat face or moon-pie face look that seemed to become the big thing (ugh) and the big fake fish lips and so much botox your face or that the eyebrows seem to move up all arched like an inch and freeze. I still remember Marie Osmond’s overuse of botox and those eyebrows up sky high. LOL. She must have stopped it. Her eyebrows are back down natural.

I loved her and Hugh Grant in movies together.

  7. Lee says:

    Love her!

  8. Little Darling says:

She’s named the most beautiful of 2015 right?

I love this woman. Always have always will. What a class act. Funny, talented, full of heart, self depracating. Someone who truly deserves to be called Americas sweetheart on and off the screen.

    • doofus says:

side note: one of my childhood (and now facebook) friends is a big wig editor at People, and was present for both this shoot and for (that lucky b*tch!) Chris Hemsworth’s shoot.

the candids she had with Hemsworth were DROOL worthy, and she said that Bullock is everything that she seems to be. nice, funny, self deprecating, and BEAUTIFUL.

  9. frisbeejada says:

There’s a special place in heaven/where ever for those who rescue animals. There is something deeply right about anybody who rescues an animal that’s been through the wars and that would find it difficult to find a home because of their battle scars. She seem’s a really decent woman, like her a lot.

  10. Maya says:

Still doesn’t explain your friendship with racist Chelsea Handler – Sandra!

Sandra should advertise for thick hair – she has gorgeous hair and I think it all natural.

  11. Lindy79 says:

My sister and I have a three legged cat, I say we because she went with my sister when she moved out but I still consider her half mine. She is amazing and will rule us all one day. Sister Lindy has two rescue greyhounds who are terrified of her.
She also makes little mogwai noises rather than meowing. I cannot express how awesome she is.

    • Rachel says:

When I was a kid we had a cat who lost the use of one of her legs. Never slowed her down for a second. Puffy was Bad. Ass. The neighbors dog bit me when I was a kid, and I was terrified of him. After that incident, he got loose one day and wandered into our yard where I was playing. I was completely frozen, but Puffy went all Clint Eastwood on him, and he took off.

      • Lindy79 says:

Yep, she puffs herself up to 3 times her size and she is tiny even for an adult cat. She slapped one of the greyhounds in the face for waking her up by sniffing her.
She also has a bit of a snaggletooth on one side which gives her a constant look of disgust.
She hops about giving out to herself. I love her.

  12. Lucy says:

She seems so lovely, and I hate it whenever someone talks sh*t about her just because she starred in some romantic comedies.

  13. Rubber Ducky says:

All About Steve was quite fantastic and underrated. It did not deserve all those Razzies. Sandra’s a fantastic person, and also a smart businesswoman making her own work with her own production company. Plus she has rescue pets. All round wonderful person.

  14. COMMON SENSE says:

Sandra is a year older than my mom, but I am a big fan of hers; and some claim she only appeals to older white women- nope she has a 25 year old black south African as her fan. I loved her ever since I was like 10 years old and still do. she gives such awesome interviews AND love her acting, never miss a chance to watch one of her movies.
