Jennifer Aniston talks about hair (!!): ‘I am not skilled with a hairbrush & blow-dryer’

FFN_OscarsPressRoomA_ER_022215_51663140

Another week, another product-placement interview/infomercial from Jennifer Aniston. Glamour Magazine did a Q&A with Jennifer and they barely hid the fact that she only did the interview to shill for Living Proof and Aveeno. Glamour literally interspersed Aniston’s answers with links to buy certain Aveeno and Living Proof products. There’s another purpose here as well: Jennifer makes sure that Justin Theroux gets some shout-outs. Probably because they haven’t been seen together since the Oscars? And they seem to have been apart for the better part of two and a half months? Anyway, here are some assorted highlights from Jennifer’s Glamour piece.

Her best hairstyle of all time: “Long, natural-looking beachy waves. That feels most like me.”

Her hair secret: “I was not a fan of the “Rachel.” That was kind of cringe-y for me. Looking back—honestly, even during that time—I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed Chris [McMillan] attached to my hip. Left to my own devices, I am not skilled with a hairbrush and blow-dryer.”

Her no-fuss daily hair strategy: “I’ll wash it, brush it, then put styling cream in and let it air-dry on its own.”

Her beauty miss: “I got the goth look—black lipstick and white foundation—out of my system in the eighties. That’s something I don’t do well now.

Her preferred look on a man: Clean-shaven. Scruffy is good, but you really have to wait until you get to the soft moment.”

Her cherished flaw: “I always love a beautiful scar. I think they’re sexy.”

Her stay-fit food: “I’m good to go with a kale salad. Actually, Justin [Theroux] makes a great one with a poached egg and quinoa. It’s really delicious.”

Her favorite scent on earth: “The beach. The combination of ocean water, sand, suntan lotion—all those smells—I just love it.”

Her most confident moments: “I feel beautiful when I wake up with my sweetheart. When I leave a photo shoot, because somehow miracles have been worked. When I come home from a night out with my honey and my makeup’s a little smudged. I have many moments when I feel beautiful. It’s all about having that inner confidence.”

[From Glamour]

If I’m being honest, I actually miss the goth look. I never went full goth – with my Indian coloring, it would have looked like I was doing whiteface – but I definitely played around with black lipstick, heavy eyemakeup, all-black clothing, Doc Martens, etc. It’s a fun look and I still sort of enjoy seeing it on other people. Also: in other interviews, Aniston has said that after a few years with Chris, she got a lot better with the brush and dryer and she can do her own blowouts now. Or did I hallucinate that? No, I’m pretty sure I didn’t. Her hair drama is all over the place. I think she’s just trying to “relate” to the average woman who presumably doesn’t have a full time hairstylist on call.

“I feel beautiful when I wake up with my sweetheart”…? But how often do you wake up next to him?

blah blah jennifer sucks and shhhhh her arch nemesis is Saintly. So tired of these stories and everyone uses it to jump her because obviously she didn’t deserve Vanilla Pitt. What if they are busy? Only time you see the other two together are photo ops at soccer games, just a fyi not sure anyone but a narcissist would be an actor. SO they all are like this. *eye roll* AND JT is HOOOOOOOOT! Loved him since he played the skinhead on Charlies Angels. YUM!

      • Sarah says:

Angelina is interesting, not saintly. Her fans never call her a saint. She has things in her life besides her hair to talk about. She does things beside tan in Mexico. She has substance.
Jen is just oatmeal, plain & boring. The truth hurts I guess.

How is a soccer game a photo op??? And there have only been two sets of pics! Not daily. Angelina & Brad are hardly seen period.

If Brad is so Vanilla, why are her fans still upset he left her, so upset that they photoshop Aniston into B&A family pics?

JT is HOOOOOOOT???? You sound like a 12 year old.

      • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Missy, who wrote: “blah blah jennifer sucks and shhhhh her arch nemesis is Saintly. So tired of these stories and everyone uses it to jump her because obviously she didn’t deserve Vanilla Pitt.”

Where in Kaiser’s article–or the two posts you responded to–does it say anything about an ‘arch nemesis,’ Saintly or otherwise?? And why would it?? This article is about yet another Jennifer Aniston interview in which she talks about ‘nothing’ except her hair. And before you give us the “She owns a haircare company so what else would she talk about?” patent response, just consider that all Jennifer talked about ‘before’ she bought part-interest in the Living Proof company was her hair, the (any) beach, and margaritas.

I’m not quite understanding the recent bout of Jen-Hen sour grapes spreading from Blog to Blog. Jennifer isn’t seen with her fiancee and hasn’t gotten a good role out of her shameless Oscar campaign, and somehow Jen-Hens think her silly self is all somehow Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s fault. Can’t people gossip about and criticize Jennifer Aniston based upon her own merit, or lack thereof?

      • Camille (The Original) says:

Can we leave the JP’s out of this. They have nothing to do with this woman.

      • Jessica Fletcher says:

Funny, I have loathed Justin Whatshisface since Charlie’s Angels 2. That “Oirish accent” was offensive to my people. 😈

      • Tarsha says:

What is it with the Aniston loons needing to drag the JPs into it? Why is it that people get up in arms if anyone dares to criticise Aniston that they are seen as JP fans. Its just ridiculous. True, some that dislike Aniston are JP fans, but many, MANY more who dislike Aniston are not JP fans at all, either. No wonder Anistonloonies have the bad reputation they have.

    • Aubrey says:

      Ha!

  2. Jem says:

i think she likes being single. I just wish she’d own it; there’s no shame in it.

  3. Josephine says:

I really don’t get these interviews. Her hair is nice, but not spectacular. I’m pretty sure everyone’s hair would look great with a professional hairstylist and tons of fake hair for length and body. And all of the euphemisms for fiance bummed me out for some reason – they just seem so childish?

    • jen2 says:

The man has a name. Why not use it. Her honey or sweetheart could be anyone…past or present. She just seems to have a hard time acknowledging him and the tone when talking about him is just off. But she is confident about her hair, which is average at best and mostly fake. Never got why everyone went on and on about it being so perfect.

      • minx says:

My 15 year old daughter sounds less superficial and more articulate.

      • MrsBPitt says:

When she said she felt beautiful when she woke up with her sweetheart, I naturallly assumed she was talking about her dog!!

      • Camille (The Original) says:

Exactly, her hair really is NOTHING special. I have never understood the obsession with her hair.

    • Esmom says:

It seems like a weird thing to get worked up over. How do we know the writer just didn’t mix it up because he/she got tired of trying “Justin” in every instance? That’s actually how it reads to me, like the writer had a thesaurus and wasn’t afraid to use it.

      • june says:

No, I think she said those words exactly. That is how she speaks, which makes her hard to listen to.

      • epiphany says:

Re: the Justin mention; please remember, this interview was done for a monthly magazine – it was conducted or constructed 6-10 weeks ago. it wasn’t done on the fly when she was in NYC last week. The fact that she mentioned him doesn’t mean they are or were together at the time of the interview – a platonic friend can poach you an egg! She mentions his name in interviews because she not ready to announce their break up, which I maintain happened months ago. They are still friends, so he’s perfectly fine going along with this – besides, he’s in Austin filming his show, so he’s out of the gossip loop right now anyway. We’ll have a wait a bit longer for the formal “it’s over” press release, but it’s coming.

      • Josephine says:

Yeah, maybe, but she does actually used words like that so it somehow rings true. And I’m hardly worked up – I just find it kinda annoying b/c it seems a bit childish for a woman her age. But I think that about most of these celeb types — most of them seem like they suffer arrested development.

  4. ToodySezHey says:

I swear the last 4 articles on JA have had her talking about her hair.

The Brange needs to do something to make JA interesting again.

    • lisa2 says:

They have NO connection. So nothing they do would or could do to make her interesting.

  5. Catelina says:

I don’t get the big deal about her hair at all. Like yeah, it’s nice, but it’s not exciting in any way. It always looks the same, she never does anything with it.

    • michelleb says:

I don’t get it either. How many times can one person talk about their hair? Are there actual people out there that fascinated with Jennifer Aniston’s hair?

Honestly, my hair looks better than hers and I don’t have a hair stylist on call.

      • minx says:

There are many actresses and/or women in the public eye who have beautiful hair. Her hair can look shiny and nicely highlighted, but there are times it looks a bit fried and passé for someone her age.
        No big deal at all.

      • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

That’s what I don’t get…..because she constantly talks about her hair, I actually pay a lot more attention to it….and it always looks fried/like straw. On red carpets.

      • Christin says:

I thought her hair looked best (healthiest) in the Rachel cut, yet was surprised to read quotes she made dogging it several years ago.

    • MrsBPitt says:

And I call her out on the statement that she lets her hair air dry….she has super curly hair, that has to be blown out…I have the same kind of hair, and if I let mine air dry, I look like a poodle!!!!

  6. Tracy says:

Jennifer seems like a nice enough person, but honestly, she hasn’t said anything interesting in 20 years.

  7. nicole says:

I’m watching all of Friends on Netflix right now, I find it so much funnier now than the first time around, probably cuz I’m about their age and relate a lot more to the plotlines. Anyway, due to this binge watching I now appreciate JA a lot more.

    • michelleb says:

LOL. I had the opposite reaction. I don’t find it funny at all now, but I loved it back then. Friends was on during my teen/young adult years.

      • nicole says:

I think it must be all about timing. It was on when I was a pre-teen to late teens and looking back I really didn’t get a lot of it – both the innuendos and just the experiences.

      • Nicolette says:

For the most part can’t watch it anymore either, unless I catch an episode from the first two seasons.

    • Josephine says:

I think she has nice comedic timing but these interviews are just the worse.

  8. Nicolette says:

Ugh, the hair. Again. How boring. I thought of her last night as I watched part of Mr. and Mrs. Smith where the sexual energy between Brad and Angie was visibly off the hook, especially in the beginning of the film when their characters meet and they wind up drinking and dancing and more. It must be insane to watch your husband fall in love with someone who is gorgeous, sexy, talented, a great mom, a humanitarian and so on, and basically something you’ll never come close to being. And have it all unfold and remain in the public eye. That said, she really needs to find something else to talk about other than her hair or the latest product she’s endorsing. One dimensional and kinda makes you see why he moved on.

    • akivasha says:

      +1000

    • epiphany says:

You know, I would agree with you, except for the fact that I’m convinced Jen wasn’t all that much into Brad in the first place. What she wanted – and what she misses so much now – is the prestige and show business clout of being married to an A+ actor and movie star. IMO, Brad and Jen were put together by somebody’s publicist who thought they would make a cute couple. She was hungry for fame, and he was entering his nesting phase – they both thought they had found the person who could give what they each wanted.

      • Boopybettes says:

Brad was still feeling wounded by goopyth and hiding out, so he married his less attractive frat bro on the rebound and hung out for a few years. Lol He practically said this.

      • Aubree says:

        @boopybettes lol

      • FLORC says:

        epiphany
That is how history supports it.

        Boobybettes
When did he say that? I assume “practically” means that’s an interpretation of his comments and not his actual words?

  9. Beee says:

Hair, Hair, Hair…..that is all at 46 that she has in her life to talk about.
And what exactly do her fans see in her?
    She sure is dull.

    • minx says:

That’s exactly what I was going to say. She has no substance.

    • Carmen says:

Her fans think she is a little wounded bird who needs constant care and coddling or she will completely fall apart.

    • FLORC says:

Not true! She also talks about how she doesn’t want to talk about hair and wants to be taken seriously 😀

  10. june says:

“I always love a beautiful scar. I think they’re sexy.”

Give me a break. Does she not think before she speaks?
All of a sudden since Cake she loves scars?

    • Jayna says:

Well, the question was her cherished flaw. What was she supposed to say, buck teeth on a guy, a bow-legged guy?

My ex had a scar across his knee from an operation, and I always found it sexy. He had great legs for a guy anyway.

      • Esmom says:

I can relate to the scar attraction. There was a guy in college that I would see on campus who was super handsome in a badass kind of way, with a u shaped scar on his cheek. I cannot explain how hot I found him.

    • Booopybettes says:

Hmm..I see someone is scrubbing my more smoking aniston posts. The one i put in this spot last night: was how she has been regurgitating Angelina’s quotes now (Jolie, because she has scars from her youth, is on record as saying she ‘loves scars – thinks they’re beautiful.’) – she’s been repeating her actual quotes for some time. It is pretty close to stalking behavior and quite creepy.

  11. Tarsha says:

My honey, my sweetheart, etc. Oh please! I am sure she has read us all stating that her phony little engagement will never come to fruition and now she is bending over backwards to try to convince us they are actually a couple that wake up together and eat together. Who is she kidding? They don’t even live on the same side of the country. She is so transparent.

  12. Janie says:

She needs to broaden her horizons. Hair? Is she a distant relative of the Kartrashions? Smh.

  13. An says:

I do like that she’s enjoying her life: she has close friends, she goes on vacations. I don’t think she has to go to Angelina’s level and it was the bane of her existence that she ended up against a woman who’s so different than her and so accomplished.
I think Jen is just a normal ordinary woman like so many of us who would rather watch a movie than read a book, would rather go to Cabo instead of doing voluntary work and so on. She knows hair, she talks hair.
Wouldn’t be absurd if now out of the blue she would start talking about the migrant situation in the Mediterranean and give educated opinions?
Let the woman flip her hair and have her wine, she’s not the Antechrist!

    • june says:

You sound like you are describing a 20 year old, not a close to 50 year old.
But can’t she talk about something besides her stupid hair in every single interview? It is boring to hear a 46 talk only about their hair!

Why does she have fans? What in the world do they have to talk about in regards to her?

Does she have anything going on in her life that is interesting? Shallow and passive aggressive (as she has said she is).

    • Jayna says:

There’s an in between you left out of those two extremes. I would not be vacaying in Cabo three times a year. There’s a huge world out there and I would be out exploring it, and for lounging in the sun and just chilling on vacation, it would be in other areas besides just Cabo.

She lives a limited life for someone of such privilege financially.

    • OhDear says:

I agree. She seems to be a creature of habit (wears her hair in the same or similar way for many years, wears the same style for red carpets over and over again). She may not be the most interesting or curious person, but she knows what she likes and seems to enjoy it. Her talking about hair all the time may be boring, but it’s pretty harmless.

      • bla says:

Maybe she is simply happy with her public persona and doesn’t want to get into anything else? Her vibe seems pretty comfortable. Probably the route I’d go if I were a celebrity.

      • snowflake says:

i think that’s why she’s lasted so long. she’s pr savvy and refrains from saying or doing public things people find controversial. she knows how to keep a low profile

  14. FingerBinger says:

Jennifer Aniston is always talking about hair that doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is a poached egg with quinoa. That doesn’t sound very appetizing.

  15. tracking says:

Um, she co-owns a hair company. Of course she’s going to talk about hair on a regular basis.

    • kara says:

Yet, she never talks about anything but her hair.
And hair is hair, there is not much to say about it after tons of interviews.
There is no need to talk about average hair so much when you are almost 50.

      • snowflake says:

umm, if you make money off it, you have to promote it. she’s a celeb endorsing products. she has to earn her money by talking about it.

  16. meme says:

If I could have anyone’s hair, it would be Amanda Seyfried’s not Jennifer’s. Her hair is boring.

  17. anne_000 says:

“Her hair secret: “I was not a fan of the “Rachel.” That was kind of cringe-y for me.”

Haven’t all her usual hairstyles been a version of the “Rachel?”

Does she really think she’s been changing up her look in all these decades? Does she have a hair dysmorphia?

    • perplexed says:

I think her hair now looks really different from “The Rachel.” That hairstyle was a lot shorter and had way more layers in it at all angles. And whenever I’ve gone to hairdressers to get “The Rachel” they won’t let me get it because they say it requires a lot of upkeep, and that the only way Aniston was probably able to maintain it is because of the personal hairdressers on set. So I tend to believe her that that hairstyle was difficult to maintain.

She probably has layers in her hair now, but the layers she has now seem similar to what Mila Kunis has or what other people with long hair in Hollywood have now – slight layers in front while the hair falls back at a longer length all around in the back. Because hair is either long or short, and long hair tends to fall the same way no matter what you do to it, I find the criticism that Aniston doesn’t do anything radical with her hair a little strange. Long hair looks the same to me on all celebrities. Natalie Portman, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Brooke Shields, every Kardashian on the planet with long hair, etc. — their hair falls the same way and pretty much looks the same way no matter what they do to it at that length in terms of an actual haircut. And when someone cuts their hair like Kaley Cuoco, everybody talks about how it doesn’t flatter the person’s face unless that person is Halle Berry.

      • kara says:

” I find the criticism that Aniston doesn’t do anything radical with her hair a little strange.”

It is not strange, it is the truth. Her hair is fried.
Maybe she gets critized is because she makes such a big deal about her hair, yet there is nothing special about it at all. She acts like her hair it the queen of all hair, when it is full of extensions and makes her look like a real housewife.

It is strange however that you have gone to multiple hairdressers to get the ugly and outdated “Rachel”

      • perplexed says:

It might be the truth, but I find the criticism strange in the sense that long hair looks the same on most people all the time. Most celebrities with longer hair look the same no matter what they do it. Even if you change the cut, the hair looks the same at that length. Brooke Shields has really pretty hair, but it’s always looked the same to me no matter what she does to it — long, pretty, and always falling the same way on her shoulders or back. Ditto for someone like Kate Middleton who is known for her long hair. That was the point I was trying to make rather than trying to argue for Aniston having better hair than other people. There’s only so radical long hair can look because the hair gets weighted down by the length to look the same no matter what you do to it. Thus every celebrity with long hair has looked the same to me over the duration of their time in the spotlight.

As for the Rachel, I tried to get it because it was in style at one point in the 90s when I was quite young and trying to experiment with hair, and that hairstyle got a lot of praise. It wasn’t considered strange at that time to get the haircut when magazines were featuring that hairstyle as the go-to hairstyle. Anytime I tried to get the hairstyle that the media was raving about, the hairdressers said no, so her criticism of that haircut rings true to me.

  18. Zirza says:

She’s just a vast pool of wisdom, isn’t she?

  19. kara says:

She cannot keep her stories straight!

2011 “[McMillan] thinks I’m a closet hairdresser,” said the actress. “I’ll
take the hair-dryer right out of his hands. He’ll kill me for saying
this, but I’ve surpassed him in that department: I’m faster with the
    blow-dryer.”

In 2015:I couldn’t do it on my own. I needed Chris [McMillan] attached to my hip. Left to my own devices, I am not skilled with a hairbrush and
    blow-dryer.

She just invents stories to have something new to say..

    • Tarsha says:

      Good find!!!!

    • Viv says:

I think she’s saying she isn’t skilled enough to do the Rachel hair, but that she’s quicker at blowdrying. I can blow dry my hair every day, but I cannot give myself a blowout like my hairdresser does.

Not really a contradiction unless you want it to be.

  20. LAK says:

Her interviews never change. I’m annoyed that I read this and even left a comment!! Stockholm syndrome?

  21. Jordan says:

She must make more money from endorsements than she does from acting.

    • Carmen says:

Absolutely, especially since the residuals from Friends dried up five or six years ago.

  22. Dawne says:

    Whatever happened to Justin’s show?

  23. Peggy says:

Justin is in Houston filming The Leftovers, one place you won’t find Aniston, too humid for her hair extensions.
If the US had truth in advertising like the UK, none of the Averno or Living Rough would be shown on TV in their present form.
Is her career over? The reviews are now coming out for Cake, after the embargo, guess why they hid behind the embargo, it stunk.
Rita Moreno was right, when she said the maid was the best thing in that movie and a reviewer agreed and added the dead lady, the only reason to watch this snooze fest, which made less than two million.

  24. Pumpkin Pie says:

IMO she tries to sound non- high-maintenance but I think she is. Well, that’s the feeling I get from her anyway.

  25. ann says:

“If I’m being honest, I actually miss the goth look. I never went full goth – with my Indian coloring, it would have looked like I was doing whiteface” ?????????
I don’t get it. Is she saying she’s Indian now. Native American Indian or East Indian?
And what race is Orange anyway. Maybe I’m overreacting, but is that kind of a racist comment or she’s just really dumb?

    • snowflake says:

i think Kaiser is East Indian. and Kaiser is saying with her dark complexion, it would look like she was trying to do whiteface (look white). Who is orange? I think maybe you are thinking it’s aniston that is saying that. the author of the article (kaiser) is saying her own experience, not jen’s.

    • perplexed says:

I think’s that what the blogger wrote, not what Aniston said.

      • ann says:

Thank you snowfake and perplexed. I just skimmed over the article too fast. My fault. I guess I’m so used to reading about amazing eyeballs and other peculiar things she says. (:

  26. Iheartgossip says:

Shut Up. Next week she’ll be back to primping to appear pregnant and fire those rumors up again. Man, she is a thirsty, shameless thing isn’t she?

  27. jennet says:

    Vapid brain loser!

  28. Aubrey says:

Maybe Brad was just vulnerable, to the force that is Jolie.

  29. Pnichols says:

She’s as sharp as a pound of wet leather.

  30. Boopybettes says:

    To @Emma – BOOM! Lmao
