Prince Harry played sweaty polo & finally stopped by Anmer Hall to meet his niece

I could honestly look at photos of sweaty Prince Harry for days. The royal family’s very own Bridget Jones (Forever Singleton, diarist) was out in Gloucester yesterday. He was playing polo – the game was for the Jerudong Trophy, an annual charity event which raises money for Centrepoint and WellChild, amongst other organizations. Usually Harry and William both play (sometimes on the same team, sometimes not), but William wasn’t there this year. Probably still holed up with Kate, George and baby Charlotte, although you never know – William made several public appearances in the past week.

As for Harry/Bridget Jones, sources say that he finally traveled to Anmer Hall to meet his niece! Apparently, Harry stopped by late last week, maybe Thursday or Friday. I bet he enjoyed meeting Charlotte, although I do get the impression that Harry isn’t particularly close to his niece and nephew at this point. Maybe he’ll be Fun Uncle Harry when they get a bit older. Either that or he’ll be Dodgy Uncle Harry and Kate will have to tell him to stop roughhousing with the children.

Harry’s team lost by the way. But there were no hard feelings. I think Harry is going to be on the road again very soon – he’s reportedly going to spend the summer in Africa, working with NGOs and his Sentebale charity. So enjoy Sweaty Harry while we have him. Poor Bridget!

He is definitely living up to his Prince Hot Ginge nickname in these photos. Wowza.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Yes, Moar Harry! Harry playing polo, Harry playing football, Harry in fatigues, Harry with kids… *let sigh*

  2. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

Wow, Harry – is that a polo mallet in your pocket? Or are you just happy to see me?

  3. LAK says:

What is wrong with Harry? Why does he keep on working? Didn’t he get the memo from William?

    • The Original Mia says:

Harry obviously doesn’t understand his position in the Firm is not to upstage the heir. Too bad he has a real sense of duty, instead of an occasional interest in it.

      • judyjudyjudy says:

William IS doing his duty. He has married , has 2 children, and is not embarrassing the heir who is CHARLES.

      • anne_000 says:

        @ judyjudyjudy

I don’t think that’s the sole of his duties, being married and having two kids. Is that all the taxpayers hope from him? Nothing else for all the expense he costs just to be married and have two kids and do as little else as he can get away with?

      • The Original Mia says:

        @judyjudyjudy

William may be doing his duty as a husband and father, but he most definitely is shirking his duty as future monarch. He can and should do more. If not, and he just wants to be a father and husband, step aside, take his kids, his wife and his in-laws and let someone who understands that as heir there is a higher duty to his country take his place.

      • anne_000 says:

Btw, if all it takes to be a Royal is getting married and having kids, then where do billions of other people sign up to be a tax-payer paid Royal?

    • candice says:

and he actually seems to enjoy it and genuinely likes being around people. no, he definitely did not get William’s memo, but he got Diana’s message loud and clear it seems.

The Good King Harry/Henry comment always rings clearer with these stories.
Harry simply put got the charisma of his mother and the sense of duty from his father.
For William? It’s been noted often William has his father’s temper.

I guess it could be argued Harry being the spare had more freedom and William felt smothered under pressure, but… idk. Harry still does more and William resists even the minimum. Roles truly reversed. More than expectations and upbringing. This imo is more about their individual personalities that were known in their childhood and haven’t really changed too greatly.

if his only duty is breeding then he is officially a zoo panda

    His ARMS…!

  5. Jaded says:

Talk about polar opposites – The Ginge and The Whinge. Harry seems to be the only one in the BRF right now with any sense of duty or giving back.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I wish they’d fire all but HRH, The Duke, Anne and Harry. On second thought, keep Chaz and Cams for the entertainment value and for the fact that they actually work.

      • Jaded says:

Agreed – the rest of them can go get real jobs. Oh wait…they’re not qualified to do anything…Walmart greeter?

      • NUTBALLS says:

Walmart doesn’t need the business. They are experts at attending fancypants fundraisers and charity balls though.

      • *North*Star* says:

Hey — the Wessexes, the Gloucesters, and the Kents work too!!!! Mostly with no press so no one ever hears about how hard they work, which really isn’t fair (but then life ain’t fair either).

      • NUTBALLS says:

North Star, I presume those are some of the other royals that I only see featured on the Fug Girls “Royals Round Up” every Friday… Being an ignorant Yank, I only know about the “stars”!

      • *North*Star* says:

        NUTBALLS,

Yes, most of the Royal Family works their butts off with very little to no press. Two children of The Queen & Philip fall into that category: Anne, and Edward and his wife Sophie (the Wessexes).

The Gloucesters (Richard & Birgitte) and the Kents (another Edward, although his wife Katie has mostly pulled out of Royal duties for health reasons; and his sister Alexandra) do quite a number of Royal engagements as cousins of The Queen (the Kents are first cousins with Philip too).

As you said, only the ‘stars’ of the Royal family get press which is a shame as many do work quite a lot.

FYI Richard (current Duke of Gloucester) was a second son and was never expected to inherit the title. He went to university and trained as an architect and is patron of several charities that focus on architecture. Birgitte, his wife, worked at the Danish embassy in London prior to her marriage (not sure at what though).

Edward (Duke of Kent) and Andrew (Duke of York) both spent 20+ years in the military. Katie (Duchess of Kent) has been teaching music for the past several years (after her withdrawal from public duties. She was considered at one time to be another Diana due to her compassion).

Edward (Earl of Wessex) and his wife Sophie had careers outside Royal duties. Sophie had a very successful PR business she co-owned before marrying into the BRF. Edward wasn’t quite as successful as his wife though… lol

Anne, like her daughter, was trained as an equestrian and went to the Olympics. Although her daughter was the one who medaled. Anne and Charles often ‘compete’ to see who can pull off more engagements — they’re both are considered hard workers.

So it’s unfair for people to say that they have *no* skills whatsoever. Almost everyone here has a marketable skill — some more than others.

  6. anne_000 says:

I have nothing to base this opinion on, but (LOL) I think the reason why he’s not so close to George is because then he’d have to spend more time around Kate, William, Carol, Pippa, and James. I think Harry will become closer to his nephew and niece when they spend less time with the people mentioned above.

  7. The Original Mia says:

I don’t understand the Bridget Jones analogy. Harry isn’t pining for a wife. The press is. I see a man finally comfortable in his own skin, forging his own path. Harry is a bachelor. He isn’t going to be the 3rd wheel in the Cambridges marriage. Also, George doesn’t spend a lot of time with the Windsors. Therefore, Harry & George/Charlotte won’t be close. Not until Charles becomes king and demands equal time with them.

  8. Sullivan says:

Harry looks like a lot of fun. Enjoy life, Harry. Work hard, play hard for you will not be king.

  9. RTMS says:

So basically he gets a extended African vacation? Because you just know he’s not getting his hands dirty while there. Some quick meeting in the morning, maybe a pop In to see what’s up and the rest of the time it’s party and boating . How is this any better than Bea or Will?

    • anne_000 says:

Considering that for years, he’s been shown being active in his Senteble Charity works in the UK and in Africa and also has participated in conservation work before, I think it’s a good possibility that he will actually work in Africa more so than just partying and boating there. I think he’s shown more serious intent than William would have in his place.

If it were William who had the same plans as Harry does, I would have been skeptical.

    • FLORC says:

      To add to Anne_000
Harry not only works far more than reported. He heavily innvolves himself in the work. It’s more than getting hands dirty for a photo op. He’s working behind the scenes and this is very apparent.
Though, what does get covered heavily in the press is what Harry does outside of his duties and causes. His leisure time. This is all calculated though to show the heir and his wife as the better choice as it has been for generations. And people still keep eating it up.

With roles reversed I think Harry would still be better fit for the role of heir and William would get away with far less and have far less protection.

      • candice says:

FLORC & anne – well said and you beautifully summed up key differences between the brothers. When I first read this post as well as the other one up the thread that essentially said we are wrong to expect anything more from William, I thought about responding but couldn’t be bothered. Sometimes people can’t be persuaded to change their view but you two, in your posts always speak in a convincingly, factual way, so thanks.

    • Jaded says:

Harry has more than proved himself at getting his hands dirty with his work in Africa. We only see the tip of the iceberg as far as his work there, and then there is his tireless work to promote assistance to those who have done active military service and need help for PTSD, financial and medical help and post-military job opportunities. Not to mention his tours of duty in Afghanistan, during which he was just one of the lads, not a toff who had special quarters, food, support staff, etc. etc.

    • bluhare says:

It has been reported that Harry is going round with a large animal vet treating animals for three weeks while in Africa. He’s not just playing polo and photo safari’ing.

  10. Citresse says:

Harry is a hard worker and cares very much about his charity work. I hope he finds a lovely woman and they have a happy life together.
Wow, is Kate heading back to royal duties sooner than expected? It seems the pressure has been building against William, especially recently, but I never expected Kate to be preparing for a royal engagement any time soon.
