Bruce Jenner debuts her new female identity, Caitlyn, on Vanity Fair

VF jenner

I can’t believe my conspiracy theory was right – Bruce Jenner, now Caitlyn Jenner, covers the July issue of Vanity Fair. VF just dropped the cover. This is Caitlyn’s big public debut as a woman, and since Jenner is now telling us what she wants to be called and that she’s publicly identifying as a woman, we should all begin using “she/her” and the name Caitlyn Jenner.

Meet Caitlyn Jenner, Vanity Fair’s July cover star. Pulitzer Prize–winning contributing editor and author of Friday Night Lights Buzz Bissinger, who was given unfettered access to Jenner and her family, chronicles the tensions, traumas, and courage that shaped Caitlyn into the woman you see today. Annie Leibovitz shoots the first portraits of Caitlyn, which were taken in her Malibu home.

Jenner speaks movingly about her journey, telling Bissinger, “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’ ”

[From Vanity Fair]

Caitlyn’s journey is extraordinary and I have to think that what she’s done and how she’s revealed herself so publicly will be an overwhelmingly good thing for the trans community. I only have one funny/gossipy thing to say: I’m enjoying the fact that Jenner went with a name with a “K” sound for her name, which goes with her family. I’m surprised she didn’t go with a K-spelling too, Kaitlyn.

Caitlyn also has a new Twitter account! After her first tweet, debuting this cover, she tweeted this:

Update: Vanity Fair’s video with Caitlyn.

  1. someone says:

Caitlyn with a C and not Kaitlyn with a K? Kris must be mortified that he made it that similar.

    • Mia4S says:

LOL, I didn’t think of that. If it was a “K”, MamaPimp would have put a hit on her.

Nice picture but heavily photoshopped, so yep the transition is coming along. Soon Kaitlyn people will be commenting on your weight, wondering if you can still have a career at your age, and speculating why you’re still single. Welcome to fame as a woman!

      • phlyfiremama says:

        LOL~

      • Jib says:

Can you believe the photoshopping on this?? I am assuming that a past Olympic decathlete was in good enough shape to NOT be photoshopped to death!!

And while I don’t understand Jenner’s urge to change sexes, I do know that I have taught a number of teenagers in the same situation and they often were so unhappy, they contemplated suicide. I’m glad she finally found peace and that she will give others the courage to be their true selves.

        Peace, Caitlyn.

      • lisa says:

ita so much photoshop it’s practically a water color

she looks like cindy crawford in a couple of decades

      • FLORC says:

        Cindy mixed with Janice.

    • agree says:

I was thinking the same thing. Kind of sends a message.

    • TrustMOnThis says:

I think she didn’t want a k name but still wanted to be part of the tribe.

    • LadyMTL says:

Also, the cover is released on the same day that Kim announces her 2nd pregnancy? I love it, my inner bi*ch is cackling like mad. I am liking Caitlyn’s game already! 😛

      • MCraw says:

Actually, it makes me bitch-mad at Kim, who knew months ahead that this was the reveal announcement and tried stealing thunder with a baby. They just never stop!

That said, she’s beautiful. Thought it was JLo!

      • Dirty Martini says:

Kim …….imma let you finish talking about your pregnancy, but Caitlyn Jenner has the best magazine cover! (-Kanye)

      • Deb says:

There an item on Blind Gossip I get the feeling is about Kim. If I am right, Kim is fuming that Caitlyn is stealing the limelight from her. I know Kim posted a supportive Facebook message, but I don’t believe anything that comes out of her mouth. I really do believe she only cares about herself and her fame.

      • Akua says:

Kim is such an annoying person ,why did she decide to break pregnancy news on this day ? I believe its pimp mama Kris trying to get back at Caitlyn for not using a “K ” 😂😂😂😂

      • Hannah says:

Yeah and I’m really glad it’s getting more attention. She must be pissed. This post has more comments than hers haha!

      • Pace U. says:

She looks fabulous. Hope I look half as good when I reach 60.
        Caitlyn is Queen.

    • Talie says:

I thought he would go with Bridget.

    • Greek chic says:

Kaitlyn with a K is the name of Brody’s girlfriend (Kaitlyn Carter).Maybe she didn’t want the same name with her son’s girlfriend and chose a different spelling.

    • Lucky Charm says:

Her oldest daughter is named Cassandra, maybe she wanted to use the same letter as her daughter’s. All the boys have “B” names for Bruce, so Caitlyn with a “C” to match her daughter’s name is a nice tribute. Plus it still has the “K” sound to go with Kendall and Kylie.

    • Iheartgossip says:

HA! you posted my exact thoughts. And, I realize ALL mags photoshop their pics; however – this one is photoshopped BEYOND the normal T-Klan’s photos. I guess we’re in for another 2 years of Stunts by the Stunt Queen family.

    • aussie says:

Caitlyn is correctly spelt “Caitlin” with a C no Y. But of course people like to make it unique and started to spell it differently , but the original way is Caitliin.

      • FLORC says:

        Aussie
Correctness is relative to region. Many areas of the world had similar names with various ways of spelling and did this without communication between areas. History is riddled with examples. There’s no Correct way to spell Caitlyn/Caitlin unless you’re arguing more like you can’t spell that name with a silent “P” Or a name like “La-ia (the dash in the middle making it Ladashia)”.
It’s a name you can figure out without trouble and uses very common spelling that has been around for longer than you’d think.

It seems like making something out of nothing to attack the spelling in this way.

  2. Kaylah says:

She looks all types of kickass on that cover. Werk it girl.

    • Loopy says:

But I hope she does not go the trashy route ala Kardashian, why did they have to make her half dressed.

      • PhenomenalWoman says:

That was my only complaint: in order to be a woman in this world, you have to be half-naked?

      • JudyK says:

I found that creepy. Why can’t anyone keep their clothes on. Less is more…why can no one grasp that…beginning to think there’s no class left anywhere.

      • J.Mo says:

TMZ quotes her on this image, apparently she wanted to satisfy any curiosity to make it more likely people will leave her alone when she’s dressed more conservatively. She wanted to give the money shot so paps would stop trying to get it.

    • Tifygodess24 says:

She looks a bit like Jessica Lange to me. Very pretty. And yes let’s hope she doesn’t do a full on Kardashian.

    • MoxyLady007 says:

      Jessica Lange right?!?

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Thank you, Caitlyn, welcome to your life! Beautiful woman!

    • Gea says:

She looks like a Jessica Lange. Yes, like her right now. Technology has come a long way.
When you have money, this is what you can accomplish. So, now that we’ve figured out how to switch genders so successfully, perhaps media can turn attention to more important things. Like world peace, finding the cures for real diseases.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

There’s hardly anything ‘scandalous’, wrong, or even shocking about being photographed in something that’s basically the equivalent of a one-piece bathing suit, people. Actual bikinis show more than this. This is similar to what I thought when a feminist complained about Laverne Cox daring to- gasp, pearl-clutch!- wear a tight little bandage dress in a photoshoot: She hardly needs to go from experiencing the pressure of having to live a lie about her gender identity to facing the sexist pressure to “Cover up like a lady” and having her clothing and body choices policed. None here said it was trashy and classless for Joe Manganiello, a straight cis DUDE, to pose for a magazine in a wet sheer nipple-exposing shirt the other day.

  3. Alyce says:

She’s gorgeous! Good for her for going after what she wants and being herself!

  4. Kris says:

She looks amazing! I love this cover.

  5. Jenns says:

She looks amazing and thank God for no “K”!

  6. mindydopple says:

WOW, she looks like a handsome woman, at first glance i thought it was an actress i can’t remember the name of now. too lazy too google. she has a handsome face, raspy voice…. anyways, congrats Caitlyn! Also, how heartbroken do you think the K-klan is? Bruce said he wasn’t thinking of transforming this soon, and YET, here were are.

  7. snusnud says:

She looks so much like Jessica Lange! You go girl!

    • Tifygodess24 says:

I thought the same thing! Someone up thread said Rene Russo , I can see that as well.

  8. Shelley says:

Hmmm…Kris is probably upset that Caitlyn looks better than she does.
I’m happy for Caitlyn. Better late than never.

  9. CasualBtchr says:

I gotta say, I’m impressed. Bruce Jenner was never a hero to me, I didn’t like it when people used that word to describe him, but I gotta say he looks happy, or I guess I should say SHE looks fabulous on the cover of Vanity.

    • beautifulDay says:

I just -feel- liberated looking at this, photoshopped or not, every girl needs a flattering picture. It makes me happy 🙂

  10. Colette says:

She looks beautiful TMZ has the VF video from the shoot

    • ab says:

right? she looks like she’s trying not to fall off the stool. she’s doing it beautifully, though!

edit: oh no, you edited your original comment. I was agreeing to you saying she was posing awkwardly!

  11. belle de jour says:

It would rock to see THIS on a box of Wheaties.

  12. Amy says:

I actually thought it was Janice Dickinson or Jessica Lange at first.

I wonder why they photoshopped it so much, congratulations to Caitlyn however, just wish it looked like the person the photo is supposed to be of.

    • black orchid, says:

      me 2 ,very Jessica lange

    • Delta Juliet says:

      Because they photoshop everything.

    • GreenBunny says:

It’s a shame they felt they had to Photoshop it so much. The skin on her face and décolletage does not match the skin on her arms. And to me, it makes the work they did so much more obvious.

      • Jayna says:

I thought Annie did that lighting in such a way as to be very light in places. I kind of loved all the shadowing. It is a very artistic statement by an acclaimed photographer, not just done for photoshopping purposes..

  13. jmj424 says:

    She looks beautiful!

  14. Brittaki says:

My word, she looks beautiful! A million times better than any Kardashian could ever hope for. I’m very moved by her honesty and am so happy that her journey is nearing completion. Congratulations Caitlyn, and welcome to the world!

  15. Loopy says:

Wow,so did she also get more surgery, the face looks more rounded and soft somehow or it could be photo editing.

    • helen says:

When I saw this… I immediately thought she looked very tweaked and photo-shopped. I was disappointed. Good for her for wanting to be attractive, but as a big debut, I’d hope the first impression would be more about empowerment and less about sexualization and the current feminine ideal… I wanted to appreciate this more.

      • Loopy says:

Exactly and why is she half dressed.

      • Jessiebes says:

Nah. Empowerment and being sexy are not mutually exclusive though.

      • michkabibbles says:

Maybe this is her ideal of femininity? Maybe this is how she’s always wanted to look? I don’t really agree that sexuality and empowerment go hand in hand (although they’re not mutually exclusive, either), but I also don’t think there’s anything wrong with wanting to appear or look sexy. Laverne Cox is always dressed in bodycon dresses (and pretty much always looks fabulous).

I read this on another site (www.tomandlorenzo.com), which I thought was a great way to describe it:

We admit, our first reaction to the bathing suit was “How many 65-year-old women would get the chance to do that – and how many would take it?” But this 65-year-old has a clear point to make about her body and her ownership of it.

      • Kitten says:

“We admit, our first reaction to the bathing suit was “How many 65-year-old women would get the chance to do that – and how many would take it?”

None would get the chance, because 65-year-old women aren’t generally seen as “sexy”. Interesting how when Meryl Streep posed on the cover at age 60, it was a heavily photo-shopped pic of just her face. I guess you have to be a man who is becoming a woman to experience the luxury of “body ownership”.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy for Caitlyn and happy for the transgendered community. I just find that this cover sends some strange mixed messages, the loudest one being that a woman’s identity isn’t defined by anything more than a skimpily-dressed female body.

So count me in as one who wishes they could have gone in a different direction with the cover.

    • Jayna says:

She had more facial feminization surgery.

  16. Tiffany says:

Whoever did the styling for this shoot. Kudos!!

  17. Jaime says:

She looks amazing and I look forward to a time where this isn’t a big deal and people can just be their true selves.

  18. CarolinaBelle says:

Let’s hope Caitlyn is a better parent than Bruce…

  19. Luca76 says:

She looks like Jessica Lange Mazel Caitlyn

  20. BRE says:

I was so happy to open my laptop and see this picture first! I am so happy for her. It’s true, you can be accomplished and loved by many but if you can’t be who you really are then life seems wasted.

  21. black orchid, says:

WOW!!! gorgeous !u go gurrrl!!! thats one fabulous cover for a fabulous personality .God bless her and give her a long healthy life!!!

  22. Caitlyn says:

Yesssssss. I obviously love her name! I never see anyone else spell it this way. She looks gorgeous!

  23. BGirl81 says:

She looks like my beloved Hilary from Love It or List It, no?! Show these heffas how to work, girl.

  24. LILOU says:

Caitlyn is already a bitch, as she just stole Kim’s thunder!!!!

Way to go girl… I already LOVE you for that 🙂

    • Loopy says:

      Hahahahahhaha

    • L&Mmommy says:

Caitlyn is literally keeping up with the Kardashians, she just upstaged Kim big time 😂. If she starts competing with Kylie Jenner we’re in for a lot of foolery lol. Caitlyn be like “there’s a new head b*tch in town!”.

  25. Happy21 says:

I don’t usually contribute anything to this vapid family. I read the gossip but that’s about it. I pretty much loathe everything they stand for. However, this almost made me tear up. I watched bits and pieces of Bruce’s interview with Diane Sawyer but not the whole thing right through. I’m very proud of her for emerging victorious and happy. I will for sure buy this magazine. I’m looking forward to the article and the photos. As a poster said above, “Better late than never”. All the power to Caitlyn!! You go girl!

    • Jayna says:

The whole thing through is very powerful and very informative on many levels, not just all about Bruce. It’s so much more than you think it will be. It’s so well done that I think it will win a lot of Emmys. I urge anyone who hasn’t seen it to watch it.

    • Jayna says:

Pregnant? What baby? LOL Well, done, Caitlyn.

    • Sea Dragon says:

That’s how I felt at first. Now, I’m just angry that she’s so self-absorbed. She has an underaged daughter who dropped out of homeschooling, botched her body with plastic surgery and is dating a pedophile. I’d put a hold on my truth to be a good parent and come out only when I’ve tried everything to get my youngest in a healthier place. Whether that would take six months or a year of intense care and focus, so be it. Then, and only then, could I soak up the spotlight, feel centered, comfortable in my skin and proud of my true identity.

      • Brittney B says:

I agree with you about the poor parenting… but if she’s going to help Kylie, I don’t think suppressing her real identity is necessary or even helpful. If anything, this shows how important it is to be and love yourself, without needing validation from the masses or to conform to some predetermined idea of beauty or appeal.

Also… it’s hard to be any kind of friend or parent when you’re exhausted from concealing the most important parts of yourself. If she couldn’t help her daughters before, maybe she can see their problems more clearly now that she’s relieved of that weight.

      • BaeOnBoard says:

@Brittney – Hence the criticism about Bruce going on to have EVEN MORE kids when there were already several others (too lazy to look up how many) he fathered without apparently caring too much about their wellbeing, emergence into the world as responsible, productive citizens, or even their need for a parental figure. It’s really damn selfish to keep procreating when presumably even he knew about his lack of time, commitment, and focus on his existing children even if he didn’t necessarily see these failures as painting him as an inadequate, irresponsible parent. So for him to put the needs of his teenage daughters – and these are the most BASIC needs, like ensuring they don’t end up the company of a pedophile!! – on the backburner because he was struggling with his gender issues is a wholly inadequate excuse.

And why does it have to be the case that only now that Caitlyn is here can she fully relate to a teenage girl; what man wouldn’t be able to acknowledge and step in about his own teenage daughter dropping out of school, getting plastic surgery/injections, and dating (and who knows what else) a grown *ss man? I don’t think there’s any way to excuse Bruce’s behavior, or to claim that only Caitlyn is able to right these wrongs (or that Caitlyn was somehow holding Bruce back because she weighed on Bruce’s mind more than the wellbeing and safety of a 17-year-old girl).

      • M.A.F. says:

Oh BS. A parent is a parent regardless of gender/sex. She started to focus on herself instead of the well-being of the youngest daughter.

  26. Amelia says:

I shy away from using the word ‘iconic’ usually, but I can definitely see this VF cover being an iconic one a few years from now.
    Hell, why not now?
    Rock on, Caitlyn!!

    • BaeOnBoard says:

So we’re just conveniently forgetting that Bruce hit and killed a woman? Or that he’s neglectful of his children, especially the underage one keeping company with a pedophile?

I get that the whole transition aspect is really transformative and, I guess, groundbreaking in terms of the positive attention and light being shed, but man I wish there was a better person to be at the helm here.

      • MadMenluv says:

People tend to have a very short memory span…I also think if he hadn’t had that accident in February and killed that woman, he wouldn’t have done the transformation and revealed it so quickly…the accident was bad press for sure so he felt this would be a good time to get some sympathy and completely turn the attention from it to make people forget…and guess what? it worked!!

      • BaeOnBoard says:

Very good point. Now it’s all about the accolades and heroism and glitzy magazine covers, instead of about what his despicable family is doing or the fact that a woman is dead because of him (just using a masculine pronoun to indicate that this went down on Bruce’s watch, not Caitlyn’s). You’re so very right – would any of this have happened this quickly if there weren’t a pressing need to deflect the criticism and outrage (or surprising lack, thereof) over the murky areas and lawsuits? Yay for Caitlyn, but VERY VERY big boos for Bruce, and his journey into transforming does not negate what a horrible person he was (and hopefully she will not be).

  27. Tillie says:

I think it’s so interesting to see what adults who change their names name themselves. Caitlyn is a name that didn’t have it’s moment until like 35 years after Bruce Jenner was born. There are not a lot of other 65-year-old Caitlyns around. I always find that fascinating.

  28. doofus says:

“Jenner speaks movingly about her journey, telling Bissinger, “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’ ”

that quote made me tear up…I’m so glad that she’s found her way.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Me, too. And she’s very pretty.

    • Mich says:

I teared up at the VF video…ends with the quote “as soon as this cover comes out, I’m free.”

Go Caitlyn! You are braver than 99.9% of people in this world.

      • Kitten says:

Sorry but she’s not braver than the transgendered people who live like this every day, who have been brave enough to live their lives as the gender that they were not born as, the people who don’t have the luxury and protection that comes with a famous name, the people who don’t get money or accolades for revealing who they are and who they have always been, the people who have been physically and emotionally hurt and ridiculed without the support of an entire community, the people who have felt so incredibly alone because they had no one who understood they were trapped in the wrong body. THOSE people are my heroes, not Caitlyn.

I apologize if I sound b*tchy, but I can’t get on board with the deification of this person. It’s awesome that the LGBT community has someone as high-profile as Caitlyn as their leader, but personally I wish it wasn’t someone from this crappy family, someone who wasn’t a sh*tty parent, and by all accounts, someone who wasn’t really a great person.

Yes Caitlyn deserves to feel happy and comfortable in her own skin, but I’m not sure someone of her immense wealth and privilege deserves to be anointed *fearless advocate for the transgendered community* nor am I convinced that she even wants that title and the responsibility that comes with it. Ultimately, I think there are better candidates out there.

      • V4Real says:

Spot on Kitten. I’m cracking up at the people who are given Caitlin thumbs up on her bravery. Please spare me the tears of a person who used to have the balls, no pun intended to put his (he was still a he at the time) two younger daughters in check. She isn’t much better than the family she married into. She’s getting the fame, money and the attention just like the rest of the family. To me it is all a distraction to distract from the tragic accident she caused . What about all the people going through this that don’t have her protection, money or fame and support.

Chazz Bono didn’t get this much love.

And that photo is photoshoped to death just like any other woman on their cover. And though she’s been feeling like a woman trapped in a man’s body for years I still think PMK emasculated her. But congrats to her anyways.

    • Sue says:

So his entire life was about becoming a woman? How about the 6 children he fathered? Could he be more self absorbed?

  29. Ohoh says:

Now Caitlyn will eclipse the KKW new baby revelation! Will the claws will come out? Can’t wait for the Caitlyn/Kendal high end photo shoot next! These fame whoring family is really the New Mint, money machine, taking over the headlines…

  30. MG says:

Wow! She looks beautiful! I think she looks like a better Lisa Vanderpump. So excited to see someone living their truth!

  31. Tiffany :) says:

How PISSED is Kim going to be that Caitlyn is going to take over the new cycle, drowning out the new baby announcement?

  32. deezee says:

I thought it was a picture of Felicity Huffman at first.

  33. Pj3 says:

Man or woman; attractive or not, I don’t care If Caitlyn is happy, that’s all that matters. On a shallow note – Great hair. I wish mine would look like that.

    • PhenomenalWoman says:

Get extensions and/or photoshop. Not even Caitlyn’s real hair looks like that. 🙂

  34. boredblond says:

Caitlyn ruined Kim’s MeMe Monday..this is war..

  35. Abba says:

I am seeing some Jessica Lange mixed with a little bit of Janice Dickinson. She looks amazing!

  36. QQ says:

    Personally Im LIVING!!

I found My Kardashian to live for!

    This is SICKKKKKK

… Only mortifying thing is the Mall Rat Teenness of a Name But GO OFF! Caitlyn

    • Jayna says:

      That’s a great title to a cover.

“Finally, a Female to Root for From the Keeping Up With the Kardashians TV Show.”

      • QQ says:

The Shade of Dropping this TODAY and completely Overshadow Kim and her announcement which we’re all mostly side eyeing

  37. Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

Caitlyn just schooled Kim on how to break the Internet. Well played, girl.

  38. Melody says:

My only question is if she will keep her bottom au naturale or get her C-version of the Ass of Lies…

  39. Zan says:

Caitlyn is looking gorgeous. Reminiscent of Jessica Lange 🙂

  40. Jayna says:

I thought it was Jessica Lange at first when this photo popped up on my Yahoo line. Well, she’s coming out in a big way, not as a conservative 65-year-old, but as she always felt through her life internally for the photoshoot. Caitlyn is lucky to have great hair. It will take me forever to get used to that name. Why couldn’t Bruce change to a B name? It would be an easier transition as it rolls of my tongue, like Brenda, but thank God, it’s not Brandi.

Okay. I admit it. I cried when I clicked on that video and at the end you hear Bruce’s voice saying, “As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I’m free.” Bruce in that moment leaves Bruce behind and becomes Caitlyn. That statement still chokes me up when I think about the magnitude of that simple, yet emotionally powerful, statement.

Wishing you nothing but light and love, Caitlyn.

  41. ShazBot says:

    Does she wear dentures?
I never watched the show so I don’t know if Bruce always sounded like that, but it sounds like there’s something in her mouth

  42. guilty pleasures says:

Well done Caitlyn, what a wonderful step for both she and the trans community.
I don’t know if/how much the photo is shopped, but that is the norm for anyone on a major mag cover. The beauty and self-acceptance are what I see.
I hope people acknowledge that this is a true struggle for many people, she will help so many people feel freer to seek their own truth.

  43. Bess says:

Okay, Caitlyn. Now step up and actually parent your youngest daughter. Kylie desperately needs your guidance whether she realizes it or not.

    • McMe says:

      This

    • Lola says:

Well she’s posing in her underwear when she could’ve worn a million other things. That says a lot of what kind of person she is and the kind of attention she wants to gather.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

@Lola her choice of clothing all by itself does not tell you ‘what kind of person she is’. Her showing skin doesn’t make her bad or inferior, just like someone else’s covering up doesn’t make them good or superior.

    • rlh says:

Thank you! Sorry to be the bitch here but I think she looks photoshopped to hell and back, and I don’t think she looks amazing. And I wonder at the price of all the attention on Bruce/Caitlyn when Kylie, who is still 17, is walking around with fillers in her lips, her ass hanging out of her shorts, messing with a 25 year old man and constantly posting sexualized pictures to social media. Bruce does not have a reputation as a good father. If you made the choice to have kids, put them first. Period.

  44. Sillymilly says:

Don’t get the need for the skimpy outfit and to show the still-present bulge. It prurient. She’s 65 after all! It’s not that flattering. A great dress would have have been more respectful and age appropriate. It shows a bit of a lack of judgment on Caitlyn’s part. Oh well, it’s her life. Wish her well.

    • meme says:

I agree. Bruce Jenner wanted to become a 65 year old female stereotypical pinup?

    • L&Mmommy says:

She probably wanted to do something like the #breaktheinternet shoot that Kim did but had to settle for this instead…for now. All the women in her family want to be Kim I don’t see why she would be any different. I hope she gets a Pinocchio butt just like the rest of them too.

    • Brittney B says:

I’m glad to see you’re the only person who mentioned that. Do you immediately look at the crotch when you see cover photos of other beautiful women? I don’t blame Caitlyn for wanting to show off her curves; she’s been waiting for this body for 65 years. She’s finally comfortable in her own skin; the last thing that matters is how much of it she’s showing.

    • Lola says:

Oh I just said the same thing before seeing your comment!
It bothered me that she thinks this is an appropriate way to introduce Caitlyn. It’s her first photoshoot and she appears half naked? Why? Is that really all she has to offer as a female?

      • Absolutely says:

Isn’t that the essence of being a woman? Posing in your underwear for the enjoyment of the masses?

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Because of course doing something at all means thinking it’s all you have to offer, right?

Her outfit may not be appropriate for you, but it was appropriate for her.

    • msw says:

I can’t get worked up about the bulge. This pictoral is as much a piece of photojournalism as it is a glamour shot. If she feels good doing this, that’s what feminism is about–not about her sexuality, but about her freedom to do a photo like this. I’m not going to attack her for doing a sexy photo celebrating her comfortableness with feminimity, or not having a feminine enough looking crotch.

  45. Amanda says:

    I think she looks great!!!!

  46. MSat says:

I’d like to see what Caitlyn really looks like without the fancy lighting and photoshop… I mean, good for her and everything, but let’s be clear, this is not what she looks like in the real world.

    • Jayna says:

I would say the same for most celebs on covers. People know there’s a ton of airbrushing and lighting on this, just as for every other photoshoot. But you still see what Caitlyn looks like as a woman, just airbrushed with great lighting, like they all are. She is shockingly prettier than I thought just with her bone structure and eyes with makeup and hair styled with some pieces in it, And being tall and thin is another thing that is very flattering for her in clothes.

    • Colette says:

That’s true but that applies to every woman on the cover of VF,Vogue,Elle, etc

  47. Jayna says:

Oh, and a big round of applause for the amazing job Annie Leibovitz did.

  48. Tessa says:

Please no pancake contouring and black nylon kartrashian clothes caitlyne

  49. lizzie says:

She sort of looks like Peri Gilpin – Roz from Fraiser. Gorgeous!

  50. msw says:

I can’t imagine how much gut it took to do this in front of the whole world.

    • BaeOnBoard says:

I thought the same, but knowing this family and their proclivities for proudly displaying their entire lack of class, decorum, civility, and hell, shame, is this something Caitlyn perceived as needing courage to do? Or was she rarin’ to go, like “Hot damn! I’m gonna have every tongue waggling about me! Good or bad; I’ll take it!”

      • msw says:

i meet every single thing Kardashian related with a lot of skepticism, but I truly believe this is genuine.

      • A~ says:

You vastly underestimate the amount of suffering transgender people experience. I don’t care if she has been on every reality show in the world, her suffering was real.

      • AcidRock says:

But Bae didn’t say Caitlyn wasn’t suffering or never suffered as Bruce. This is entirely about the over-the-top nature to everything they do, to the point where their presence is almost an invasive presence in pop culture because they are so willing to shill anything and everything for attention. For people whose bread and butter was built upon making fools of themselves and a shocking lack of class, can we assume that once Caitlyn decided to emerge, there was still any fear, suffering, or even trepidation left, or can we think that the Jenner/Kartrashian mindset took over and thought of nothing but the glitz and glamor aspect (especially convenient as a detractor to the fact that Bruce killed a woman)?

This is a family who knows what their relatives’ genitals look like (one sister giving a bikini wax to another; Mom being spread-eagle with only a towel draping her), discusses everything sexual in as graphic terms as possible with said relatives, and again has no grace, class, humility, or any sense of what’s appropriate because the sole purpose of every breath they take is to garner attention and make money. It wouldn’t be too far of a stretch to think that, whatever obstacles Bruce had to fight in the past, by the time Caitlyn arrived to the mass media, there was no longer any fear of negative attention/commentary/backlash. Clearly everything these people do is just for attention, including this magazine cover. Caitlyn could’ve made this appearance for the sake of the barriers being torn down, but the whole “now let’s put on the dog and pony show for the E! cameras and continue pretending like we believe people think this sh*t is real” nonsense wholly negates any goodwill from this situation.

  51. Jayna says:

I bet Kanye kept offering to style her and direct the lighting for the shoot and video. LOL He completely dresses Kim. He said he can’t be on the Kardashian reality show because it bugs him that he can’t be the lighting director on that show.

  52. Jess says:

I have chills!! This is so amazing, good for her!

  53. lucy2 says:

Caitlyn on Vanity Fair, and Laverne Cox on Time. It’s great to see people able to be their true selves, and I hope inspire others to do the same, or not feel so bad for feeling different.

  54. meme says:

so Caitlyn had to make her debut as a pinup? A photoshopped pinup. How very Kardashian.

  55. TessD says:

First – I thought it was Jessica Lange
Then – I read it was Jenner but thought it was a Vogue cover

    She looks good!

  56. Insomniac says:

Good for her. And wow, I never thought she’d look so much like Jessica Lange.

  57. Hollz says:

What a gorgeous cover! Love that she upstaged Kim’s pregnancy announcement! (Though I have to wonder if Kim is ok with that? She must have known the cover was coming sometime this week, she could have waited a few more days, or announced last week. I think she’s happy for Caitlyn, and is happy for a little less attention on this pregnancy)

  58. lisa2 says:

Wow.. looks great.. very vampy and sexy.. Go B… Caitlyn..

  59. Miss Jupitero says:

    She’s a total dish!

  60. Saks says:

I thought that was Teri Hatcher… Anyway good for her!

Also, I have a (maybe stupid) question: why should she be called in relation to her kids?

  61. Mzizkrizten says:

I was hoping her coming out would be more classy but come on, she’s been living in the shadow of the Kardashian women for how many years? Shameless flaunting is all she’s ever known. And she totally brought in a pic of Jessica Lange as her inspiration.

  62. serena says:

    She looks beautiful!!
A minor complaint would just be that I don’t like the cover’s pose, but other than that : stunning. I kind of want to know why she chose that name though, just beacause.

    • MinnFinn says:

I do too. What emotional and thought process caused her to choose Caitlyn? Has she privately referred to herself as Caitlyn for a long time?

  63. sali says:

Why would anyone want to change the way God created them?

    • Jayna says:

Well, then, God created him a woman in his brain and soul.

      • Dave says:

Are you saying that God makes mistakes and puts the wrong souls into the wrong bodies and that we are better than God and can fix His mistakes?
Isn’t that a little presumptuous and arrogant to put ourselves higher than God?

    • Lucky Charm says:

Because we are the ones living in/with our bodies and want to be happy? People pierce their ears (and other parts), get tattoos, plastic surgery, etc. all the time to change the way they look. It really shouldn’t matter to anyone else, nor should they care.

    • Beatrix says:

Ugh. You have the right to express whatever you want to say. That said, I’ll add that your comment is most anachronistic.

    • Mouse says:

Don’t let me get started on your comment. God has nothing to do with it and he he didn’t create her.
Would you want to live a life of unhappiness or people your love and care for or be the person you really want to be?

    • jammypants says:

Well in your mind “God” exists.

    • MinnFinn says:

      sali,
Is any form of changing how God created a person to be condemned? Do you approve of XX women with makeup, hair color, push-up bras?

  64. Regina Phelange says:

She needs to go away now. She can’t walk around with soft lighting and airbrushing. This is the best she will ever look. Drop the mic, Caitlyn!

  65. Mouse says:

She looks incredible! I think she looks like Cindy Crawford to me.

  66. Colette says:

    X17 has more pics
The cover pic is the least flattering pic.The pic in the car wearing the red dress is hot. Also in the black sleeveless dress next to mirror,Caitlyn is slaying.Caitlyn has 800,000 twitter followers in less than 3 hrs

  67. Lucky Charm says:

I’m surprised that Annie didn’t have a butterfly theme – Bruce is the caterpillar, and then Caitlyn emerging from the cocoon like a beautiful butterfly.

    • angee says:

      Great idea

    • MediaMaven says:

much better than the lucite box that PMK had Bruce in for that one Christmas card……..that’s how little she thought about him………..

  68. Jayna says:

Aw. Caitlyn Jenner’s new verified twitter account already has almost a million followers.

A cute quote from the Vanity Fair article.

““A guy came in the other day and I was fully dressed—it’s just habit, I said ‘Hi, Bruce here,’ and I went, Oh f–k, it ain’t Bruce, I was screwing up doing it.”

  69. Sknniemama says:

    Jennesicca Blang. I love you.

  70. Jayna says:

Is this going to be Vanity Fair’s highest selling issue ever?

  71. MediaMaven says:

    Holy Cannoli!

  72. Fatty Magoo says:

If it had been a woman who was born a woman posing like this at that age it wouldn’t be acceptable for some reason. People would give her Hell but because it’s a man that turned into a woman everyone is like get it girl! And I just can’t care enough about this person or this family. Still got someone killed, still a crappy person, still a crappy parent.

    • Colette says:

Really? Nobody gave sixty year old Christie Brinkley flak for posing in a swimsuit on the cover of People Magazine. She was universally praised.Oh and you care enough to comment.
Congrats to Caitlyn for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award which she will receive at the Espy’s

    • Mouse says:

Are you trying to rain in on her parade? You don’t know her personally so don’t judge her on her parental skills. Saying she is a crap parent is disgusting! Her children seem to be very supportive of her so why can’t you?
      Madonna come to mind?

    • Otaku Fairy says:

No. she’s being slut-shamed here too by other women. While none of these women have a problem when grown cis men choose to show skin or sexualize themselves.

      Welcome to womanhood, Caitlyn!

      • Absolutely says:

Or maybe we’re just tired of the example of, when presenting yourself as a woman to the world, the first thing you must do to prove that womanhood is to…..take off your clothes.

      • Otaku Fairy says:

Perhaps this is a style that she is comfortable with and has always wanted to experiment with as a woman. If you don’t like it, you certainly don’t have to emulate it, but she certainly doesn’t have to present herself modestly to make cis women who are uncomfortable with other women not dressing modestly feel better, especially when those very same cis women are completely silent or don’t have a single critical word to say to the MALES who decide to sexualize themselves on the covers of romance novels, in Calvin Klein ads and other ads, in magazine photoshoots, or for movies.

      • MrsNix says:

@Absolutely – You nailed it. That was EXACTLY my reaction.

  73. Jayna says:

One of the best comments by a poster on this story on the internet. It cracked me up but it’s true. LOL

“Caitlyn gets props for upstaging Kim and her pregnancy news. That alone should get Caitlyn Woman Of The Year recognition.”

  74. Carmen says:

I have to admit I am having a hard time reconciling this person with the guy I watched winning the Olympic decathlon in 1976. But if she’s happy and content, more power to her.

  75. hilda says:

am i the only one who sees a resemblance to jolie ?

  76. Bridget says:

    Wow.

  77. Theresa says:

I didn’t read all the comments but the ones that I did read were positive and supportive and reminded me yet again why I continue to be a part of the Celebitchy community. While I typically try to avoid this exact kind of stuff, Celebitchy allows me to feed my celebrity gossip hunger while maintaining my self-respect. [Most of, if not all of…] You are awesome!

  78. cakecakecake says:

I’m happy when anyone can be themselves, at 65 its time. she looks damn good too…better than PMK.

I cannot begin to understand the torment of feeling as if you are in the wrong body for so many yrs and afraid to do something about it because of IMAGE. I’m glad that Bruce finally did something for himself this time, cause in the end that’s all you really have.

    Good for her!

  79. Duchess of Corolla says:

    She looks beautiful!

  80. Airquote Sarctag says:

Obviously heavily Photoshopped. Jenner’s going bald so clearly wearing a wig for starters. Also didn’t Jenner recently deny being gay and is still attracted to women? So this whole effort and the photo is an effort to become more attractive to women?

  81. Jasmine says:

YYYEEESSSSS!!!!!! LOVE HER!! To do a cover like this says one thing to me, she is comfortable in her skin. That has got to be one the most beautiful and pure things a person can experience. So happy for her!

  82. Raquel says:

So amazing i love the shock factor of this all. Also thank you to Vanity Fair for sending me crap articles all year so that when i give up and cancel you come out with a cover like this!

  83. Ava says:

    Awesome! Beautiful! You go girl!

  84. SDFADSF says:

    DEGENERADO !!!

  85. EM says:

I don’t ‘get’ the way the word heroic is used in relation to Jenner.
He has built up his wealth, as has Kris, through the exploitation of his step daughters and daughters via reality TV [which he willingly participated in] and shows no remorse or compunction with respect to a car accident he was involved in, which killed a woman and it doesn’t surprise me how all this media footage was timed to coincide with the controversy of the car accident.
I don’t care for this family at all. They worship the dollar and will do anything to get money.
It’s his life to do as he pleases, but all this fanfare and worldwide broadcasting of a man who is no different to many other men who are similar or same, is overstated and always revolves around this family making money.

  86. Penelope says:

She looks pretty good. The outfit could have been more tasteful but hey, she’s working it.

  87. Neonscream says:

Welcome to womanhood Caitlyn, a state of being where you’re not allowed on a magazine cover without being photoshopped beyond all recognition. Your wrinkles were fine before but as a woman you better not scare people with tawdry unfeminine things like ageing.

  88. Elizabeth says:

The more I think about this story and Caitlyn’s transition the happier I get for her. It must be wonderful to get to finally live your dreams at 65. I also love her bombshell figure. Caitlyn seems to be a mix of Jessica Lange and Sofia Vergara. She looks amazing and I hope the rest of her life is nothing but pure joy 🙂

  89. A says:

    Jessica Lange handled that well.

I don’t know how I’d react if it were me…unPC as it is, no woman wants to be compared to a man in looks. In fact, it’s usually used as an insult towards women and considered offensive due to the fact that it robs a woman of her femininity.
It is hurtful for many women to be told they are “manly” and “look like men” etc.
Now, one can argue that bruce is now a ‘woman’, but technically he is not both in dna and in the fact that he hasn’t transitioned yet (if he ever will) and also, as biological women to be told you look like a man or a man dressed as a woman is and always will be hurtful and i think it’s okay to admit that.

  90. Betti says:

Congrats to her – she looks great regardless of the photoshopping. It takes more guts than anyone of us can imagine to do what she has.
