Prince William was ‘a bit of a lasagna man & didn’t like spicy food too much’

wenn3277042

On June 1st, Prince William was officially back at work after taking a six-week paternity leave from his job. William isn’t even completely ready for his job as an air ambulance pilot – by most accounts, he still has a few months of training left to do. But he checked out of the job more than a week before Kate gave birth, and then he took extra time (not really paternity leave) to do some public events, like attend a soccer game. When People Magazine reported on William’s return to work, they again noted that he will be donating his $60,000 salary to “an undisclosed charity.”

And in case you couldn’t tell by now, William’s press office is going to make sure we know about every little detail about his “real job.” I’m sure we’ll have breathless reports about the people he rescues, and there will be a distinct absence of reporting on whatever time he takes off from work to vacation or whatever. In lieu of stories of his heroics, someone wants us to know that William is “just like us” because he likes lasagna.

Like any active serviceman, Prince William needed a carb-heavy meal when he was re-fueling back at his base. Gareth Matheson, a chef at William’s old airbase, RAF Valley, revealed just what the former Royal Air Force search-and-rescue pilot preferred to dine on while serving his duties for years at the Anglesey, North Wales, station.

Some of William’s favorite dishes included a pasta meal or a burger boosted with ham and eggs when he was eating with his colleagues, according to the chef.

“He was bit of a lasagna man and didn’t like spicy food too much,” Matheson, 31, recently told the Daily Post, adding that he served the prince, 32, “virtually every day.”

The father of four from Bangor – who is the new head chef at Roadking truck-stop restaurant near Holyhead – would also rustle up another popular burger made with a local twist. Matheson explained, “Like most of the people on the base, he used to enjoy my special which was a Welsh burger because one of my trademarks is to use local produce and have a flavor of the area.”

“That was basically a burger made of lamb with eggs and bacon. William was so down to earth which I used to find unbelievable.”

[From People]

I imagine it’s not good to eat spicy food when you’re flying. Especially if spicy food goes right through you. I’m not a lasagna person, but I appreciate that William carb-loads to settle his stomach while he’s flying. Also: BACON. Everything needs more bacon. I’m not a lasagna person (I’m not a cheese person full stop), but I will always sign on for more bacon. William should add more bacon to his work schedule.

Lasgne…yummy…I’ve been on a low carb diet so long, I forgot how much I used to love lasgne! I may have to cheat and get some! Thanks a bunch, Prince William!!!!!

I love how William and Harry really seem so happy and at ease with each other. I know they are brothers, but sometimes when seeing pics of other royal sibs, they almost seem like they don’t even know each other. William and Harry seem to get along so well!

  2. Amanda says:

    Something about him just screams
    “IBS” to me

  3. Loopy says:

Sorry if this is inappropriate but I think William and Harry are very well endowed *hides* lol

    • LAK says:

We certainly have the picture proof of William’s P size. Google William peeing Note: the pictures are NSFW and they are genuine!! 😉

      • Loopy says:

OMG I didn’t know such pictures exist…they must have done a lot to bury it. H e had some hair so it must be years ago.

      • FLORC says:

I heard through the rumors spread by his bed fellows he’s above average, but those pics look average. Or i’ve just been really lucky.

      • notasugarhere says:

KM using “Big Willy” as his nickname was flattery, not fact. (Ignoring fortunate FLORC’s comment.)

      • FLORC says:

        lol nota

  4. INeedANap says:

You’re not a cheese person Kaiser? Ah, you break my heart. 😉

  5. LAK says:

It’s amazing how rapidly he has aged from 4yrs ago.

  6. Citresse says:

If you read the entire interview, he didn’t have anything nice to say about his interactions with Harry. In fact, it sounds like Harry is not a nice person after all.

    • Palar says:

He’s quite regularly taking the piss when talking about Harry.

    • notasugarhere says:

The majority of stories through the years say the exact opposite. William is the spoiled one barking at the staff, mouthing off about funders during events, and generally treating people terribly. All talk of Harry is generally that he’s friendly, open, and approachable. But of course, this article was a PR exercise engineered by Jason on William’s behalf.

    • mm says:

When would this cook have ever interacted with Harry? Harry wasn’t based at RAF Valley in Anglesey. He didn’t train there either, as far as I can tell from Google. This cook is already stretching the truth, I would be surprised if he ever really saw Harry.

      • notasugarhere says:

        mm, very good points.

      • *North*Star* says:

        I thought the same thing.

My guess is the chef saw Harry once or twice but probably not often. And it’s entirely conceivable that Harry was ‘off’ on those rare occasions (it happens to the best of us).

  7. sad DSA says:

And that’s why I’m not married to a real prince…

  8. Natalie says:

Is the undisclosed charity, The Shopping Fund of William and Kate? Why would they not want to spotlight the charity? Maybe they haven’t picked one?

They always use that one picture of him in the helicopter, posed so that viewer is looking up at him and he’s lifting his eyes up to the sky. Wonderfully cheesy. Who is paying for William’s training? Is that normal, to hire someone who isn’t qualified to be the right sort of pilot?

    • notasugarhere says:

He isn’t going to be pilot. He’s going to be co-pilot. Remember, he pressured the government into paying for a bigger helicopter for EAAA, one that fits both co-pilot and RPO. It will be a long time before he is pilot, if he ever gets that far.

      • FLORC says:

He’s a “functional ride-along” as it was explained to me by an actual air ambulance pilot. If needed he has the skills to assist, but not to lead on a regular basis and not alone.

And yes. At this point he’s missing training and testing to be a “pilot”. And he won’t be a “pilot” in the same sense as the others who fly the air ambulance alone are.

This job was created/tailored for him. And he already has a job he’s not training for. When will he be starting that job?

      • Natalie says:

So, he’s just going to be hanging out and watching other people work? I mean there wasn’t a need for that before, seeing as this position has been created just for William.

      • FLORC says:

        Natalie
In the new helicopter to accomidate William and his protection he will be a co-pilot and have duties required for an aircraft of that size.
Here William had a position created for him where he can work. Not in a way a normal air amb pilot there would though. They would fly solo with medics in a smaller aircraft to be lighter for speed and be able to land closer to evac/accident sites.
It does raise a great many “but what about” and “but when” and “but why” style questions we have yet to get answers to.

      • Natalie says:

But we do know that he likes lasagna, so thank goodness for that.

      • Deedee says:

Yes, he’ll be trained to swoop in and save lasagna if the need ever arises.

    • Tough Cookie says:

The Shopping Fund…..LOL LOL good one, Natalie..

    • anne_000 says:

      @ Natalie

I too think it’s weird that William and Jason (his PR head) haven’t given out the name of the charity. How hard is it to pick one by now?

      • FLORC says:

        Anne
That doesn’t sit well. He’s getting paid by a charity. That was donated/funded to specifically for this salary position. So, they could pay William a salary. So he could then donate it after deductions to another charity and it would be counted as a donation made through his personal funds. Right?
That this has been the plan for some time it’s suspicious there’s no charity named. It shouldn’t take nearly or over a year to figure that out imo.

      • Subconciously says:

        @ FLORC

Exactly. I bet every Royal has a list of preferred charities. And the Royal Family does probably have VERY long lists of preferred charities. The Duke of Edinburgh is a patron of 600 or more charities. So it wouldn’t be a problem to pick or name a charity.
But they don’t do that …
It is suspicious. Perhaps they hope the people will forget so that William the Bland can pocket the money for himself.

      • Green Girl says:

I think it’s weird they haven’t named a charity, too! Even if he split it up among his charities (…not going to look up how many he supports), it would still be generous.

  9. Who ARE these people? says:

Serious question – think the royals still have food tasters? Sounds like Will could get some volunteers.

    • FLORC says:

It’s been happening for a little bit now. And sadly, these pictures don’t really show it. He’s got a spot that’s beyond thinning hair at this point with right angle and lighting.

  10. bluhare says:

While I concede that considering Harry’s personal area is something I find quite entertaining, I do wish there were more to talk about than what kind of hamburger William likes.

    • Okie says:

I wondered at “new head chef.” My initial thought was that this was someone trying to get publicity for his restaurant and the only thing (P)eople took out of the interview was that he once served Prince William. So rather than being PR for the chef, it’s become PR for PW.

Then again, it says “truck-stop restaurant,” so who knows. Maybe people are just that starved (no pun intended) for information about William.

  11. Chrissy says:

Oh no! My heart is breaking that Harry seems to be thinning on top. That damn Windsor curse.
And Kaiser, everything is better with bacon IMO.

    • jwoolman says:

Male pattern baldness comes through the maternal line. So I don’t think we can blame the Windsors for this one… 🙂 Or was Diana genetically close enough? Usually it’s said you should look at the maternal grandfather to see what’s in store hairwise. Mine had a full head of hair, and so does my brother. The paternal one was baldish.

      • *North*Star* says:

They have proven that male pattern baldness comes from both sides of the family — so the Windsors are totally on the hook for this.

Uncle Charlie, has gone white, but appears to still have his hair. However Johnnie Spencer, did thin some but nothing like the Windsors.

  12. wow says:

Kate’s husband is looking mighty fine in these pictures. Nice to see that return. He can be so hit ot miss these days.

It must be so annoying that he can’t even eat a meal without someone telling the media what he ate. No wonder they are so guarded

    • notasugarhere says:

You must not have seen the photos from the recent polo match, with the lasagna pooch hanging over his African belt.

      • Citresse says:

Oh well, in history there’s been fat, lazy Kings, workaholic Kings and Kings which fell somewhere in the middle.
It appears we’re receiving clues as where William fits in within that spectrum.

    • FLORC says:

This wasn’t guarded. It’s a plant. So many are plants often admitted or corrected weeks later, but few notice and assume all positive news is gospel.

      • *North*Star* says:

I didn’t see this story as a plant but as someone using the Royal family to boost his own brand.

(Look at me! I’ve fed the future King!!!!)

      • FLORC says:

Both imo. Not a direct plant though. As in not KP, but certainly a plant.
        And agree on the boosting.

  13. Tough Cookie says:

I’m not a lasagna person either…something about it has never appealed to me….but mmm <<>>> right now I am eating oatmeal with maple, brown sugar and BACON. Once you mentioned BACON I had a hard time concentrating on posts about boring old William.
Also… on most pilots that flightsuit probably looks good but all I can think of is how silly he looks in a onesie.

  14. TessD says:

So he likes bland stuff? Quelle surprise!

  15. notasugarhere says:

Prince Harry knighted by Queen this evening, now Knight Commander of Victorian Royal Order.

    • FLORC says:

      Hot damn!
Yea. The simple facts that are getting coverage highlight how he both served, went overseas, and…
Not only stayed active within the charities he supports for fundraising, but on a grassroots type of level as well. And still was able to organize (ambitiously) the invictus games within a year, but help with other veteran chairities on top of his existing ones.

And before it happens let me take preemptive action. Harry has a staff and help with all of this. He’s not doing it alone. That he does it and follows through is a lot. Being the spare his faults get played up while his accomplishments diminished. He’s worked hard for this. And because being the extra it can be argued he had to work harder to deal with the negative coverage and still come out looking this good.
Man isn’t perfect, but he’s a damn fine spare!

    • *North*Star* says:

I see it as a big deal. Harry got it for personal service to HM but it’s not something William has.

      Hmmmmmmm

  16. Mary-Alice says:

I love lasagna. But then I come from the region and have a good idea of all the different kinds of lasagna and the whole bouquet of herbs and spices that goes in them. A person who uses “lasagna” for “bland” is no chef, sorry.

  17. Me too says:

His package was the first thing I noticed. I would hit that 10 different ways.

  18. hayley says:

That’s a mighty fine picture of William up top there, in his flight suit.

  19. Neonscream says:

Six weeks paternity leave? Mmm how many of his colleagues, you know the ones who actually work as pilots not just sit in the cockpit and pose in the gear, get ANYTHING like that. Honestly do not understand why this bunch of welfare spongers haven’t been chased out with flaming torches and pitchforks yet. Especially when their “subjects” are reeling after years of austerity measures. It’s vomit inducing.
