Kristen Stewart’s mom claims she never said that stuff about K-Stew’s bisexuality

As we discussed yesterday, Kristen Stewart’s mom, Jules Stewart, gave an interview to the Daily Mirror, a British tabloid/newspaper. Within the interview, in quotes directly attributed to Jules Stewart, Jules apparently confirmed that Kristen has a girlfriend, that Kristen identifies as bisexual and that none of it is any big deal. Many sites ran the interview like it was “OMG, Huge Confirmation!” but as I said… anyone paying even slight attention to Kristen over the past year already knew that she and Alicia Cargile were together. And now it’s looking like Jules maybe didn’t even say any of it. Hm.

No outing here! Kristen Stewart’s mom Jules is debunking a new story in British tabloid, The Mirror, which printed an interview with her that began trending over the weekend.

In the interview, conducted by Sharon Feinstein, Jules reportedly outed her daughter, supposedly saying, “What’s not to be accepting about her now having a girlfriend? She’s happy. I’ve met Kristen’s new girlfriend, I like her.”

The only problem with the quotes? Jules never said them.

“I spoke to Sharon Feinstein about my film K-11 that has been put on display in the Hollywood Museum,” she told Us Weekly. “It’s currently there under the LGBT banner on the third floor. She also asked me about my views on gay rights, which I was happy to express. Then we talked briefly about the fundraiser I am hosting for TheWolfConnection.org. Never ever did we discuss Kristen!”

Noting that she is a “huge supporter of gay rights,” Jules went on to acknowledge that she briefly spoke about Stewart’s personal assistant Alicia Cargile, whom The Mirror claimed is Stewart’s girlfriend.

“I said, ‘Yes, she’s a lovely girl,’” Jules said, when asked if she knew Cargile.

[From Us Weekly]

My first thought was… wow, if you believe Jules’ denial, that was a huge leap for the Daily Mirror. I mean, they openly attributed all of those quotes to Jules, it wasn’t a case of “sources close to Jules say yadda yadda.” And Jules admits that she did speak to the Mirror and that they asked her about Alicia and she answered, but she apparently never confirmed that Kristen and Alicia are together. Hm. I don’t know, you guys. On one hand, I wouldn’t put it past the Mirror to make something up entirely. On the other hand, the Mirror might have the receipts (like, audio of Jules Stewart saying exactly what they printed). We’ll see.

i said as much yesterday. it would be very weird if she so openly talked about her daughters love life. of course it possibly could have happened i just find it unbelievable that she would go into as much detail, no matter Kristens sexuality.

    • Annie says:

I thought so too but the reporter said on Twitter that she did talk about her daughter’s love life and that she’s going to post the recordings today because she will not be made look like she invented an interview.
There’s huge drama going on on Twitter between her and Kristen’s fans who simply refuse to accept that she’s with a woman now.

  2. Loopy says:

This was discussed before, that since they have not confirmed we should not confirm for them, we waited for Caitlyn to confirm her transition lets do the same here. Some girlfriends are freakishly tight…great example is Rihanna and Melisa, they are inseparable they hold hands, they vacation together , they are in hot tubs together, nothing strange.

    • Boots says:

Nothing “strange” about actually being bisexual or a lesbian either…

      • Loopy says:

my point is assumptions are being made.

      • Hannah says:

Oh please. If Kstew acted like this with a man nobody would hesitate to call them lovers. I don’t see why it’s such a big deal because it’s a woman? It’s 2015, I don’t care who she sleeps with let her be happy.

    • JENNA says:

You do realize that Rih has been with several men even tho she doesn’t have an official bf? KStew hasn’t been seen with a man since RP.

      • Sarah says:

*hasn’t been seen in papparazzi photos… are you somehow aware of what goes on behind closed doors magically?!?

      • Artemis says:

When Alicia and Stewart were clearly caught by paps all alone on their holiday for the new year, it was pretty clear that they are more than friends. Why spend the new year with just one friend? She has a gaggle of girlfriends yet Alicia is always by her side in the pap pictures. Consistently so. They even started holding hands which is unusual for Stewart (showing emotions 😉 )

Interesting how the paps never catch her with a man yet they always find her with Alicia who isn’t even high-profile so not really an interesting pap target. If Stewart was with a man, there would have been receipts by now. They did her dirty by releasing the affair photos, they CARE about her being with a man. Would be much more interesting than her and Alicia’s daily coffeewalks in sportswear…

      • Loopy says:

No I am not aware that’s my whole point.

    • cici says:

It’s not like most of the people here wait for confirmation before deciding some people are together. I don’t know why Kristen and Alicia would be any different. At least they are constantly photographed together and have shown PDA unlike some assumed couples i.e. JLaw and Chris Martin.

I don’t think we should treat gay coupes any different than straight ones.

  3. mia girl says:

Seems like ALOT to make up. There was other stuff too about Kristen’s money, etc. Fot her to say she didn’t talk about her daughter at all? Idk. Why would she be asked about Cargile if as she says “never ever did we discuss Kristen!”?

Plus the journalist has been screaming on Twitter about integrity and having recordings and releasing today. The whole thing is weird. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between.

    • Jellybean says:

I don’t have a great deal of time for any British tabloids, but I would be very surprised if that was all made up.

      • senna says:

I think Jules realized she’s been too open on the record, and then realized she’d outed her daughter and confirmed a fact Kristen hadn’t yet confirmed, then tried to backpedal by throwing the journalist under the bus. I wouldn’t be surprised if she really did say what she is quoted as saying, though it’s a shame it’s playing out this way. I don’t think anyone is really going to be surprised about Alicia + Kristen, nor will it be some career tanking piece of information. It’s not like Kristen is free from thirstiness, but she’s never commented on her relationships (except for the post-mini-cooper memo) and it doesn’t seem like Jules was all too respectful of her daughter in this instance.

  4. JENNA says:

So you talked about Alicia Whatshername who is only known for being KStew’s gf, but you didn’t talk about KStew? Who you fooling?

    • Artemis says:

Yeah, I don’t buy it either. There is 0 reason to bring up Alicia if not for her supposed relationship with Stewart. The mother didn’t discuss other friends so why Alicia?

I do think they’re dating and Stewart shut her mother down. She’s private so even discussing ANY of her friends or money and the other inappropriate things that were mentioned in the interview, should not have happened.

      • Annie says:

Kristen must be so pissed off. Even with Robert she refused to acknowledge the relationship to reporters even though everyone knew. Now she must be really angry that her own mom just confirmed it. Also, people saying she outed her is a bit overdramatic. She was out, people. Maybe not with a magazine cover and huge fanfare, but she was OUT. Everything about her said “I’m not hiding.” Just not talking to reporters about it.

    • EricaV says:

Exactly. How can you say “We didn’t talk about Kristen at all.” but you talked randomly about her assistant/girlfriend? BS.

  5. Luca76 says:

For wherever reason I believe the reporter why would she double down and claim to have tapes? The nature of the article would definitely open her up to slander laws in the UK. I think the mom was naive and self involved enough to think the reporter would keep the Kristen info on background. Also the mom was the person who talked about Kristen and Robert’s relationship first.
I’m also sad that Kristen was outed by her mom as opposed what I thought prior to this that she considered it an open secret and was looking to come out without a ton of fanfare.

    • Beth says:

And Jules Stewart has proven in the past that she has no issue opening her mouth about Kristen if it helps increase her profile as a filmmaker.

      • Lola says:

This is a great point as well, it’s not like the mom is some naive woman from a small town somewhere. She worked hard to get her daughter into the business.

  6. belle de jour says:

I would be very, very surprised if the journo + the original reporting pub didn’t have a recording of the interview. If the mother indeed made these comments, I think she did her daughter yet another disservice by backpedaling.

  7. Goats on the Roof says:

It wouldn’t be the first time Jules has crossed the line to promote her project at Kristen’s expense. Either way, the journalist has agreed to publish her recordings of the interview today, so I guess we will all know soon enough what was said.

    • Abbott says:

Exactly. Her mom allegedly name drops her kid on the regular for her own benefit.

      • blue marie says:

That’s what I’ve heard as well.. If you don’t want to get caught up making an inappropriate comment about your daughter a simple “no comment” would suffice..

  8. Cran says:

I remember reading a number of years ago that Kate Moss learned from (I believe) Johnny Depp that if you don’t say anything you don’t have to explain anything.

    • Tig says:

Yeah a variation on “never complain, never explain”- it’s the “explanation” that always does the “explainer” in. Goodness know if the reporter does release the tapes, what else she said that didn’t make the print version.

  9. Kiddo says:

If Kristen is bi, it’s kind of a shame if her mom didn’t actually say it. Jenner’s mother ushered in a point of acceptance when she spoke, before there was conformation from Bruce.

Whatever. It’s not a big deal, but people have the right to come out at their own pace, if that’s what they choose.

  10. Mia4S says:

The journalist says she’s going to upload the audio of the interview. Her twitter is twitter.com/sharonfeinstein

If she does, I expect that will set a new precedent for tabloid reporters who get hit with the “I was misquoted” accusation. Going to be interesting.

    • Artemis says:

Not only that but it will create so much unnecessary attention. The mother should have just let it die by shutting up but they always try to prove a point where there is none. Especially when there are damn receipts. I would be so mad if if I was Stewart because she knows the game and her mother messed up big time.

    • Sarah says:

How do you prove audio is definitely from someone in particular? Does anyone know what her mum’s voice sounds like? She’d have somewhat of an Aussie accent, no? She’s from up Maroochydore way somewhere I think

      • Mila says:

i dont know how she sounds but there will be people and i also dont think they would go as far and forge a tape for this particular thing.

  11. Jessica says:

Who knows. The Mirror has definitely made up things before. Back when it was easier to fake these things (pre-internet gossip taking off) they were notorious for it.

They may have a tape, but that they’re dragging out the reveal rather than immediately posting it suggests they did make up at least some of the interview. By the time they do release it most people won’t care enough anymore to actually listen to it and all they’ll remember is that there was a tape.

    • senna says:

Feinstein has promised it’ll be there by today (she said this yesterday) and it’s mid-afternoon over there. A few hours will see if she delivers or not.

    • mädchen says:

      This journalist has a history.
      Not the most professional.
Also she was the first one to comment on Twitter just right after the interview was released with an idiotic headline but no one reprinted it yet and her comments about it were really strange.

  12. jwoolman says:

I’ve been interviewed by the local paper and they definitely made up things I never said and never would say. A national newspaper got overly enthusiastic in editing my letter to the editor and put words in my mouth that I would absolutely never ever say. Really, words I always deliberately avoid that changed the whole tone. So yes, media make up stuff from whole cloth and rearrange/embellish even what you would assume are direct quotes. Unless they post a recording to the contrary, I would believe her.

  13. meow says:

Jules was just speaking her mind and upset KS, who doesn’t want her private life discussed. So now the KS PR people are denying blah blah blah.

    • Div says:

Nah, if her PR team was involved in trying to shut her mother up there would have been quotes from a representative. The fact that her own mother is trying to back peddle makes me think Kristen might not be talking to her. Blind Items are usually BS, but Lainey ran one a long time ago that basically said the Mom had a habit of trying to use her for her own projects and was weirdly resentful. The story was that her Dad, her manager, her publicist, her agent, and pretty much everyone involved in both her professional and personal life wanted her to cut off all ties with her mom. I wonder if this was the last straw?

TBH though, pretty much all of the outlets already assumed she was bi anyway. There were a lot of comments about her “rumored” girlfriend.

  14. Div says:

Not cool of her mom to out her, and ridiculous to deny it because it just drags this out a bit (although everyone already assumed that she was bi/gay). I’d be pissed if I was the gf though, because it’s hard work to become a visual effects producer and it’d be annoying to be deemed someone’s assistant if that wasn’t the case.

  15. Saddie says:

Kristen always looks bored with this girlfriend – she never looked bored with Rob.
I don’t see any heat or sexual energy between them – no excitement ~
When you’re with anyone who turns you on – there’s some palpable electricity.
I just don’t by it. Are they good friends sure, but are they lovers don’t think so?

  16. Corrie says:

This whole thing is sloppy. Ugh. The writer says she has taped proof and the US story wreaks to high heaven. Jules why girl why. And its not Jules first time she’s opened her mouth about Kristen for her own gain. She’s a classic homager who’s gone rogue.

  17. Mia4S says:

Apparently the publisher has nixed letting the audio be posted. Strange but believable. If true? That’s publicists at work definitely. I wonder if they went with threats or an exclusive?

Sadly I don’t think this is so much about “privacy” as her people desperately not trying to let her be seen as LGBTQ. Hollywood is not as “open minded” as Mommy.

  18. Colette says:

So where are the tapes? Thirty hours after the reporter said she would release the audio

  19. EmmyGrant says:

She implied on Twitter (about 3 hrs ago) that she can’t post the audio because the publisher won’t let her. Instead, she posted a link to a blog post where she essentially says her word should be good enough.

    • Anname says:

The article is still up on the Mirror site. You would think they would take the article down if the reporter was incorrect, but they did not.
The whole thing is gross. I think Jules said these things and Kristen’s PR team had to make a deal to keep the tapes from being released. I am not a Kristen fan, but I feel bad she has to deal with this. Her mom was way out of line here, even if she did say positive and kind things. T Pain spoke out of turn about Rob/twigs, but at least he owned up to it and didn’t try to blame the reporter.

  20. Jellybean says:

Reporters have great imaginations. Unfortunately I am only a common person with a Goverment job and I see the lies published about my work. Especially come election time… And to think prior to my current job, I had so much faith in what the press would report..

  21. mädchen says:

“She worked so hard to get her daughter in to the business…”
No, she didn’t. Everything Kristen achieved, she did it by herself.

  22. Amy says:

I personally think it’s great that KS has a friend/lover/whatever.
If someone cheats on their boyfriend, it must be hard to get a new one.
Actually, I can think of a lot of guys who cheat on their girlfriends and they have no trouble getting another girlfriend/hookup/whatever.
