Norman Reedus is dating costar Emily Kinney: Noooo or cute couple? (update)

The Walking Dead
Norman Reedus is sex on a stick to many of you. I’m more into clean cut guys (Matt Damon, Joel McHale, Chiwetel Ejiofor) but I can see it if you’re into that kind of dude. For many women, Reedus lost the hot when it recently came out that he was dating a 21 year-old model. The model was 20 when they met. Reedus, 46, has since moved on to dating his former costar, Emily Kinney, who is slightly more age-appropriate at 29. I think of Kinney as much younger than that as I know her as Beth from Walking Dead. It seems wrong to me that Beth and Daryl are together. He was like a father figure to her on the show and she’s so young-looking that Reedus looks like he could be her dad. Apparently it’s on though, and Reedus has been seen supporting Kinney at her music shows. (Her music is pretty bad, from what I’ve seen.)

If you are waiting to watch the last season of Walking Dead, there are spoilers below

“They had a connection early on in the show,” says a source close to the duo, “but the romance developed recently. They’re still pretty guarded about it.”

After Kinney’s character, Beth, was shockingly killed off in 2014, she and Reedus, 46, who plays zombie hunter Daryl, stayed in touch through texts, appearances at fan conventions (the two are scheduled to appear at the Walker Stalker Con event in Orlando, Fla., on June 27 and 28), and at Kinney’s music gigs. Says the source, “He was one of the first to support her at her concerts when she was still on the show.”

Recently, the dad of 15-year-old Mingus (his son with model Helena Christensen) cheered on the singer-songwriter, 29, at her May 21 show in Decatur, Ga. An eyewitness tells Us a few die-hard Dead fans noticed Reedus in the audience and got excited. “For some time everyone wanted two of the most beloved Walking Dead characters to be together, but of course, Beth was killed off,” says the observer.

“She always called him the sweetest guy on the set,” says the first source. When Kinney discovered she’d been written off the show, Reedus was among the first to be in touch, she revealed to Us in December 2014. “Everyone reached out, though I remember Norman texted me—he’s so sweet.”

[From Us Magazine]

As US mentions, Reedus has a 15 year-old son from a previous relationship with model Helena Christensen, so he hasn’t always dated women who are over 15 years younger than he is. Also, Kinney is almost out of her 20s. That’s something. That baby face though. Daryl saves Beth from drinking her first peach schnapps, they’re not meant to be together romantically.

Update: Reedus’s rep denied to TMZ that his client is in a romantic relationship with Kinney. TMZ has a photo of the two out together in Georgia and Reedus’s rep says their relationship is “strictly platonic.”

I shipped their characters on the show, so I have nothing against real-life bethyl 🙂 Ans she’s almost 30, I absolutely think that’s old enough for her to be able to date him.

    • Pinky says:

Aww, come on now. Which is it? I was about to get my Bethyl fanfic on! I’m personally a Richonne shipper myself though. #Richonne4eva!

      • elizabeth says:

Its meant to be Pinky. We’ve just got to figure a way to get rid of Jessie. Think! Think! Get Carol to tie her to a tree or something. #Richonne4eva!

      • Pinky says:

@elizabeth Yes, and as we learned, Carol is capable to taking anyone out when necessary. And this is necessary. The sooner the better.

  2. Lindy79 says:

He’s denied it apparently through his publicist.

It wouldn’t have shocked me, he likes younger women and does seem immature for his age but she’s always seemed a bit…thirsty or something to me. Like she hung out of him like a human cowl at comic cons.

One of her songs she mentions an exes new girlfriend by name “Julie” in which he tells him to break up with her, basically shits on this poor girl Julie and when singing it live encourages the crowd to cheer him dumping Julie and getting with her yet admits she hasn’t seen him since.

Sure fire way to get a man back…..

  3. Cate says:

    His publicist denied this

  4. Kiddo says:

I don’t know. But I can confirm that he doesn’t have a relationship with shampoo, that has been confirmed, by all appearances.

    • Lindy79 says:

He’s been seeing a bad dye job and a straighteners for about 5 years, I’m told its getting serious.

      • InvaderTak says:

It’s downright abusive if you ask me.

      • Lindy79 says:

His friends are going to stage in intervention soon, sources say.

      • Kiddo says:

        Ha! @Lindy79

      • epiphany says:

I don’t know that the bad hair is entirely his fault. Reedus has naturally blond, wavy hair; the producers make him color it dark brown and straighten it for the show. You know he used to be a model, and a pretty successful one at that. Then he had a very serious car accident, going right through the windshield. Doctors had to remove several facial bones that were fractured beyond repair, and replace them with titanium. You can Google old modeling photos of and see there subtle but distinct differences.

    • blue marie says:

Yeah, it’s all right on the show but man come on, I want to do a run by shampooing..

      • Kiddo says:

Be forewarned, I think you will need a lot of ammo at this point. Maybe even Dawn Original Dish Detergent. They use that to take oil slicks off of sea creatures and birds.

      • InvaderTak says:

Need a firehose. And some lye based soap.

      • Lindy79 says:

I’m picturing like a Shawshank Redemption prison water hose and lice powder scenario?

      • InvaderTak says:

More or less. I was picturing an episode of mash where the whole call gets in on it.

    • Lilacflowers says:

      No shampoo? No Cheez-its!

    • QQ says:

he’s cheating on Hair grease and flat Irons with A VEST! a LINED VEST… in 2015!!!

Also please don’t make me Laugh … was Luna Loveg I Mean Sing songy BETH a “beloved” character and not really so Much as an annoying plothole covers extra with a back story when someone needed to be killed off??

  5. Another Heather says:

I have to disagree. Loved them together on the show and I hope this is true. Also I saw her music act and really liked it. Met her afterwards (randomly, she was at the same resteraunt as me) and she was so so sweet.

  6. Anne says:

So basically he showed up to support her at one of her shows? Is that what we call dating now?

    • Lindy79 says:

The cynical nature of me says this came firmly from her people or camp or whatever. His quick and firm denial says it all really.

      • Katarina says:

You mean that it’s not true and he thinks she’s desperate ?

      • Lindy79 says:

Well I wouldn’t go that far but normally a “they’re just friends” is the standard answer but the wording was “strictly platonic” which is very a very firm denial and basically says that nothing will or has ever happened…to me anyway.

    • The Original Mia says:

Yes, that’s exactly what they are calling dating.

  7. Pinky says:

    #Richonne4eva!

  8. Jess says:

I think it would be cute if they dated, she does look young but I might be thinking that because I see her as Beth. They both seem like genuinely nice people, I do wish his hair was slightly less greasy.

  9. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Somebody thinks that greaseball is remotely attractive? Oh.

    • Willa says:

I don’t get it either. Very greasy.

    • CariBean says:

Glad to see I’m not the only one.

    • KIddo says:

I think the issue is greater than the grease, it’s the hairstyle plastered against his head and face.

      • KItten says:

I thought there was no *I* in Kiddo?

Where’s Mort? He is her imaginary husband. I think he’s incredibly sexy on the show, shampoo’d or not.

      • Kiddo says:

        HA!.. you did the same.lulz

    • Sullivan says:

I don’t find Norman Reedus attractive, but Daryl from Walking Dead stole my heart.

    • Bridget says:

I find it amazing that he and Helena Christiansen were together. And that he was a male model.

    • FLORC says:

Well, um… Yea. He’s hot in a locked in the trunk, dirty, apocalypse sort of way. Or a held up in a cabin drinking moonshine way. Or a dressed up in a dirty woman’s robe way.
It’s tough to deny. And I bet Emily got a thing for him at some point. Norman though… Not looking to settle down.

      • Wren33 says:

I think that can be hot in an apocalypse setting, but when I see it on the red carpet in a suit, the grossness stands out.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

FLORC, your description has me laughing. I guess that chain me to your furnace type of guy just isn’t my type. But you are hilarious.

      • Kiddo says:

        Wren said it. The truth.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

So true, Wren. The clash hurts my eyes.

      • FLORC says:

        GNAT
“I guess that chain me to your furnace type of guy isn’t my type.”
You have me really laughing here!

I disconnect Norman from his greasy hot characters. Norman is gross. The characters… omg…

    • Sasha says:

He was very handsome as a young man.

  10. The Original Mia says:

That article read like fanfic. He was there, so they obviously are dating. Umm…no. It’s called supporting a friend. Though, I have to wonder who thought this story was gossip worthy. He’s more popular than her, but he’s not that high on the Q scale. Nice advertisement for Eddie’s Attic, though.

  11. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I didn’t mind her that much on The Walking Dead and I even liked when she was singing (I’d be delighted with any kind of entertainment during the apocalypse if i were them) but her own music is soo, so bad. I cringed when I saw her latest music video. She will be 30 in 2 months but her lyrics show a maturity of a 15-year old and her interviews are not much better. She clearly is into him, but I suspect his usual 20-year old gold-diggers, I mean – aspiring models, are more mature then she is.

    • FLORC says:

I haven’t even seen her music videos because I was not impressed from the show.
When camping and the dead couldsurround you in hoards I was not at ease enough even watching them let their guards down. Noise attracts! It was a distraction. Indoors like the prison though… Sure.

Got to disagree with the maturity assessment though. Aspiring models vs some who has already landed a much fought for role on a show that has been leading ratings against ratings leaders? Nothing to dismiss. She’s established in that way and that takes a level of maturity. The models… They left a lot to be desired.

chunk o’man pickled in Milwaukee’s Best

  13. Meryl says:

    1. I wouldn’t call her character “beloved.” So someone correct me if my assumption is off there… 2. I just remember her being crazy emotional in all her post interviews after her character got killed off. Seemed like she took it overly personal and since then she’s kind of annoyed me. Wouldn’t surprise me if this was leaked by her camp because I can’t imagine why it would be news otherwise.

    • FLORC says:

She was beloved by the majority of viewers and fans.
Her character was to represent the last flimmer of humanity. That the gang could always return from the dark sides they had to become. And that Daryl could heal. Beth brought the best out of him.

And her post interviews. Some of the others that left explained why it was tough. They became a family. They uprooted their whole lives. And they got about a week or 2 notice they were written off and had to leave. They stopped viewing it as a job and started viewing it as their family activity. So, leaving their friends, family, and all they came to know as their life for the past few years. How sudden that was can make people emotional.
And from the other cast members speaking about Emily leaving they were also emotional.

      • Lucky says:

I really don’t get why people were so upset with her at her post TWD death interviews. Of course she was upset, she was on one of tv’s most popular shows, she was getting huge exposure for her music and the are a very tight knit group. I don’t think she is a great actress but she was good as Beth. If I didn’t get to see Andrew Lincoln on a daily basis anymore, I’d be crying my eyes out too!

      • Norman Bates' Mother says:

I wouldn’t say she was beloved by the majority – many, yes, but most people didn’t care. I spend more times reading about The Walking Dead than I’d like to admit and the majority of people I’ve seen on various sites were ok with her death. TWD has a very large fanbase to begin with (even Lori had fans – Lori!), so she has quite a lot of fans number-wise, especially the Bethyl shippers, but before her death she was still most people’s first pick to kill. Some of them were haters, but most people were just indifferent to her and would rather see her death than Daryl’s, Glenn’s or Carol’s. I liked the idea behind Beth, but bad acting can ruin the best of characters.

As for the 2. point – why wouldn’t she take losing a job personally? Especially a job like that – well-paid, part of a great ensemble cast on a most popular cable show. I’d cry too if I were her. She built her life in Atlanta and it all ended when Beth died. Can’t blame her at all. But I blame her for sounding like an immature, giggly teenager during most of her other interviews and in her song lyrics that she either wrote or at least approved of.

      • FLORC says:

Majority meaning many who took polls. Wrote in. Sent emails to TWD.
Many behind the cameras made note of this too. Beth’s death got a lot of very extreme responses. Noah’s too, but for more of very graphic and tough to watch death. Many meaning more than passive or ok with her death is what I meant.
And she was liked as she was just coming into her own. Toughening up and giving Daryl more screen time. She wasn’t the dead weight anymore that would sing at the campfire. And then she gets shot. Fans were a bit bitter, but understood that is how the show functions.

And Lori… She could not go soon enough. Her fan base was minimal.

To your point 2. How personally did she take it? Was she bitter to the writers?
She had t leave her family. This isn’t unreasonable to me. They all know this could happen to them. They are all nervous. On other shows with very established an professional actors where they kill off characters they still get upset. They don’t like it and some people cry more easily.

And how Emily spoke in interviews… It didn’t bother me as much as the guy who played Martinez post death interview was. Imo worse than giggles. He spoke like he just performed the best performance ever. Nose in the air style.

I don’t really miss her character anymore It was shocking, but more dear characters numbers are coming up. Things are going to get messy.

    • RobN says:

Not beloved by me; I cheered a little when they killed her. Boring character played by wooden actress. I think people only cared because it upset Daryl.

I can see her people trying to get some mileage out of this story. It’s not like somebody’s banging down her door to give her her next job.

    • The Original Mia says:

I definitely believe it’s her people pushing this story. She’s been pushing a romance between them before she written off the show.

      • FLORC says:

I think that is just a way to justify the dislike of the character and the actress.

I can’t say i’m a fan of the actress. Not terribly of beth either. Her character added to the show. I don’t like some current haracters, but understand their beneefit to the storyline.

And any evidence of this romance pushing? There’s been none except this article reaching from slow news.

  14. db says:

    This explains SO much.

  15. Lostara says:

The man is 46. The woman is 29. They are both adults. So, what is the “problem” if they are really together and in love.

In this world, there ARE men who like their women much younger; and there ARE women who like their men much older (and, of course, the other way round). It is nothing unusual. *shrugs*

    • RobN says:

Honestly, I think part of it is that she looks 15. It’s the same age difference as my husband and me, so I’ve got no issue with it, but I didn’t look like I should be doing homework and worrying about prom.

      • Mila says:

on the other hand what should she do? date 17 year olds? she just looks very young, not her fault.

      • Kym says:

I think you are right on the money ROBN. She has a very girlish face and maybe that is what’s so off-putting to some.
I think Joaquin Phoenix’s girlfriend is finally drinking age now, but when the story hit a few years back it felt so creepy. She was legal, but she looked like an adorable 12 year old boy.

    • FLORC says:

She looks her age. Even on the show she looked at least early to mid
      20’s

  16. Isabelle says:

She is too old for Reedus he likes them young, barely legal.

  17. Lola says:

I like him, and she is not a baby … Hope they are happy!

  18. roxy750 says:

Helena Christiansen(sp) is the most beautiful woman ever. She really is. Lucky bastard.

    • Kym says:

She really is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen. Of course, I haven’t seen her in a while but I’m sure she is still stunning.
