Kit Harington replaces Robert Pattinson in a film (when he should be doing ‘GoT’)

wenn22433454

I think it’s been long enough since the Game of Thrones finale that we no longer have to throw up mad spoiler warnings, but if you still don’t know who died (“died”) in the finale and you don’t want to have it spoiled, go ahead and leave this post. SPOILERS.

So, Jon Snow is gone. Right? Maybe. Sort of. Kit Harington says Jon Snow is dead. Kit Harington says he’s not filming anything next season. But we still had hope, didn’t we? We had hope that we were being blatantly lied to. We had hope that it was all Hodor’s fever dream and nothing ever happened to the Starks. But it really does seem like Kit Harington is moving on and taking parts in movies that will be filming at the same time Kit should have been filming Jon Snow’s resurrection.

Kit Harington is moving on from Game of Thrones. The English actor replaces Robert Pattinson in the upcoming thriller Brimstone with Dakota Fanning and Guy Pearce.

Fanning (who replaced Mia Wasikowska) plays a young woman running from her past who is being hunted by an evil preacher (Pearce). Harington plays an outlaw in the Martin Koolhoven-directed film. Pattinson had originally been announced for the part in February. Rounding out the cast are fellow Game of Thrones actor Carice van Houten, Paul Anderson, Jack Roth and Carla Juri.

[From E! News]

Well, Kit will be working with Carice? Maybe they can plot out Jon Snow’s return. GAH! Anyway, I have no real thoughts on this project, Brimstone, other than it sounds sort of cheeseball and it’s weird that Kit is taking Robert Pattinson’s rejected scripts.

Meanwhile, Kit is starring in the HBO tennis mockumentary 7 Days In Hell. It comes out July 7th. HBO just released the full trailer. Kit honestly had me at “Indubitably.”

7 Days In Hell Looks great.

  2. Bridget says:

At this point, it’s all speculation, but the more that I think about it I agree with the point that Size made that HBO wouldn’t just spoil the ending to the biggest cliffhanger in book 5. Good for Kit for working, and the presence of Carice Van Houten means that this still proves nothing. We’ll just have to wait until next April to find out how this all shakes out!

    • Sherry says:

Exactly! This proves nothing! The Red Witch will bring him back … she has to … it’s only a flesh wound …

    • Size Does Matter says:

CurlWatch 2015 has commenced. I’m banking on Winds of Winter coming out before next season of the show begins. This is GRRM’s cliffhanger to resolve. There is simply too much warning and resurrection evidence to ignore. Plus nondisclosure agreements.

And Melisandre isn’t dead, so shooting the other film must work okay with her Thrones schedule. No reason why it couldn’t also work with Kit’s.

In the meantime, that tennis movie looks hilarious, which are words I never thought I would string together.

      • Bridget says:

See, I even credit you for your theory! And I really hope WoW comes out and that it doesn’t suck. Please don’t suck.

I love Andy Samberg. I appreciate it when someone goes full goofball.

      • Size Does Matter says:

What was the fourth book? A Feast for Crows? I almost couldn’t make it through. Hated all of the new characters and missed all of the old ones. I don’t know what I will do if WoW is like that. But based on the sample chapters I have read (you can find them on bryndenbfish.wordpress.com I think under Winds of Winter), it will be better than book four.

  3. loud noises says:

cannot wait for 7 days in hell. kit’s “yah” accent is hilarious.

  4. Wilma says:

But if Carice is in it too, they must have been able to work around GoT’s schedule…

  5. G says:

Well firstly, Robert Pattinson really shouldn’t be turning down decent scripts – his post Twilight career is not going that well considering he was Cronenberg’s muse for a while and had a Herzog movie (that was panned at Cannes) Assayas (that fell apart due to funding issues) and his movie with Dane Dehaan has had mediocre reviews too. I thought he was set to become a legit actor. And what happened to Lautner? People like to pile on Kstew, but she’s made smart choices, worked hard and has really impressed even those who slated her talent for years.

As for Kit… i cannot even talk about that. I’m still sick about it 🙁

    • Annie says:

Rob is not interested in big productions. He’s back to small, artsy, indies, which he did before Twilight. I think he’s happy doing that. The only problem is that as a fan of his it’s hard to find those films. But he’s aware of what he’s doing. Working consistently with interesting people, truly acting. The Zac Efrons of the world eventually blow over and are forgotten. Making crappy movies in which all they do is look hot. And those men get passed by younger boys eventually, it doesn’t just happen to women. Rob is planning for the future. Being taken seriously, working with real talents. It’s smart.

People don’t know what to do with Taylor. It’s a shame. That guy is commited and hard-working.

      • G says:

but Brimstone is a tiny indie with Mia Wasikowska who is wonderful. He hasn’t made a movie in forever. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gave up acting altogether because let’s be honest, even the biggest Twihards must admit he can’t really compete with Eddie Redmayne, Ryan Gosling etc. He might go into screenwriting or maybe even music, though it would be hard for him to be taken seriously there too. He has enough money to never work again, i just hope he has a good pre-nup in place if he ever does end up marrying that rapper

      • Carmen says:

I always had the feeling he is much more interested in music than in acting. And after cleaning up in the Twilight movies he never has to work again.

    • Tiny Martian says:

Don’t know why Rob is out of this, but Mia left as well. So I have to wonder whether they are leaving for the same reason, or if it’s just a coincidence!

    • kri says:

Kiddo, my first thought was “He looks better in my jeans than I do’. My second thought was “when will skinny jeans die”? Sigh. I see the 90’s are back with a vengeance, Time to go get some 501’s and sit in a bathtub!!

    • Annie says:

It’s not skinny jeans per se, but wearing them too tight, especially when you’re not really a thin person. All too-tight jeans can create this problem. People need to stop trying to squeeze themselves into way too small clothes, just because they refuse to accept their real size/shape. That denial is dumb, and now we know it’s dangerous too.

      • senna says:

For a second I thought you were bodysnarking Kit and my first instinct was to leap in with, “but he looks so good! Damn. A bit more androgynous than we’re used to seeing him, but I wish I looked that good in skinny jeans.”

Then I realized you were just commenting that clothing should fit, and I agree, because you can’t get more basic than “your clothing should fit you” for sound advice.

    • Lilacflowers says:

Beige booty shorts are so much better.

  6. Cindy says:

Oh my god that trailer was awesome. I will be seeing that .

So….no more Jon snow? I still think he’ll return, maybe just be “mostly dead” for a season? No way would they kill him off when melisandre happens to be at the wall and could resurrect him. Nope nope nope. My tinfoil hat never lies.

  7. Mia4S says:

Sounds like he took the part when Pattinson dropped out? Interesting that these two are on the same level. OK but not great actors with a fan base? I wonder what the financiers thought? This behind the scenes stuff fascinates me.

Jon Snow will be back I imagine but not next season. It’s only 10 episodes.

    • mom2two says:

They are about the same level talent wise, OK but not great (great description Mia4s) and not very charismatic on screen. I wonder why Pattinson dropped this?

I think Jon is back, I’ll say earliest mid-season or a season finale shocker but I can also see a season 7 return. So Kit will have time to take projects without overlap on GoT.

  8. Nona says:

That looks funny as hell! And good for Kit for taking on a comedy and shaking things up.
BTW, I still don’t believe Jon Snow is dead:)

  9. Corrie says:

Sad about Pattinson but it sounded like he had another gig going and he’s had critical success from both Cronenberg films, Corbijn, Michod and Herzog films so off for more. All the critics have been praising his performances so this is a scheduling conflict. Kit is friends with Robs britpack so theres connections. Cool.

    • G says:

What other gig? And the Herzog film hasn’t been received well.

      • Diana B says:

Your stanning is showing G. Go find some post about Kristen where you can show her your devotion. Just try to stop hating on Rob just cuz they’re not together anymore.

      • G says:

Grow up. I’m being realistic. Why is he turning down decent scripts when he hasn’t made a movie in almost 2 years? Why don’t you answer the Q instead of going all Twi-hardy?

      • suziekew says:

        You’re fairly obvious G.

Rob made COAL in Jan-Feb of this year. He has two movies coming out and yes they are fairly small indie projects but the question is, why does that upset you? Rob is very clear that he would rather not be in big productions any longer and is happy doing the small projects. He isn’t competing with KStew, so why are you throwing that out there?

  10. belle de jour says:

The gossip item here may be the ‘interesting’ way in which the film’s producer described the personnel change:

“Producer Els Vandevorst issued the following statement to Screen about the cast changes: “Mia Wasikowska left the film due to unforeseen personal circumstances and Dakota Fanning immediately jumped into the leading starring role. Kit Harington was so consistently passionate about the script that his enthusiasm and total creative commitment made him a must for the role which had been lined up by Pattinson.”

    • mom2two says:

It’s odd that the director is saying the producer never said that. I don’t know how to take that alleged comment by the producer which I am taking as saying:
      1. Producer was never on board with Pattinson in the first place, however, the director did.
      2. Producer was on board with Pattinson, got funding based on his name and Kit Harington did a Gwyneth Paltrow move and got the role
      3. Pattinson started to waffle on the role and they started looking for other people and Harington, as a replacement, is enthusiastic and committed.
      4. Pattinson dropped the project for whatever reason and the producer is taking a dig at him with his comments on Kit.

A very odd quote indeed. I could see a producer saying…” while we are sad that Mia and Rob could not be a part of this production as originally announced, we are thrilled to have Dakota and Kit on board. We wish Mia and Rob well and hope to work with them at some point in the future.”

  11. Anname says:

The producer’s statement about this is very weird. It says Mia W was replaced for personal reasons, and that Kit was so enthusiastic about the role it had to go to him. What does that mean?? The director (Martin Koolhoven) sought out Rob for this role after seeing him in the Rover, so I don’t believe he was dropped. Koolhoven is talking about it on his twitter, and claims the producer never said that. I am hoping Rob dropped this because of scheduling issues (they are also filming part of this movie in November -winter). But if that was true, why didn’t the press statement just say that? Very strange. I hope the director keeps tweeting and we get a bit more clarification.

Also strange is that Mia was a lead, Rob was supporting, but all the attention seems to be on Rob/Kit, not on Mia/Dakota.

    • PunkyMomma says:

@Anname – I thought it strange, too. The wording in the producer’s statement wasn’t the standard “shooting conflict” –

    • Div says:

It sounds like there is some beef between the director and the producer. A press statement of all things isn’t going to misquote the producer about the movie, so my guess is the director and producer are at odds.

  12. Anname says:

    Oops, double post.

  13. Bethie says:

Kit Harrington is an insufferable git.

  14. Lilacflowers says:

    WunWun! Hodor! Drogon!

  15. Tig says:

Boo-was looking forward to seeing another Guy/Rob press tour- the bits they did for The Rover were great! Not a GoT devotee, and never watched Pompeii- but hope this film turns out well for KH. Still a good cast, even with the changes.

  16. Isabelle says:

Think Jon Snow will be absent most of the season & won’t be resurrected until near the end or even last episode. Think he won’t fully return until S7, the final season.

  17. jc126 says:

I am sure that the producers will go to any lengths to assure secrecy if/when (WHEN, DARNIT!) Kit films more scenes for GoT. It will be a bummer when the press invariably spoils it for us all.
By the way, I’ve never seen a show get spoiled so fast by the press. I always watched it right away so as not to be spoiled, but US Weekly every week would blast HUGE spoiler headlines for GoT by the next morning. Like unforgivably spoilery, not vague at all.

  18. ell says:

where does it say it’s filmed at the same time s got though? got is filmed from july to december, but the actor’s schedule varies, and they don’t necessarily film all those months since the cast is so big. gwendoline christie managed to film all of her star wars role in between shooting for got.

that said, I’m a longtime book reader, and it’s totally possible kit IS done with jon. from the books it seems very likely jon will be brought back to life, what’s unlikely though is that he’ll come back as jon. he’ll be different.

  19. G says:

Oh i didn’t know Mia has also left. Dakota is another one who needs to get her career back on track. I saw that Robin Hood movie with Kevin Kline? Awful just doesn’t cover it. Yikes.

  20. Hazel says:

He has been spotted last weekend in a Blur concert in London (with Theon) – still with his long GoT hair.

  21. Natasha says:

Off topic but his outfit in the last picture looks like something I would wear, minus the shoes. And he looks better in it than I ever could.

  22. Dante says:

Sounds messy, according to some tweets they are already filming. Wonder what is really going on.

  23. iheartgossip says:

I’m confused why people think he is so incredibly hot. Meh, in my books.

  24. YvetteW says:

Whatever this production is, no acting required….ever.

  25. EN says:

Kit is nice to look at , but has no acting skills. Kind of like Rob actually, though Rob is a better actor, not good but better.
I remember watching some gladiator movie with Kit last year on a plane. It was completely mindless. I spent whole 2 hours admiring Kit’s looks.

And why did Rob drop out? This was going to be a decent production.

  26. Jenn B says:

Sounds like a ripoff of “The Night Of the Hunter” and will bomb big time. Kit is definitely no Robert Mitchum. As far as GOT is concerned, this sounds like a 6 week make work project to throw everyone off the scent. Jon Snow will be back in the wall in one form or another.
