Ian Somerhalder gushes over his ‘unbelievable’ marriage to Nikki Reed

Ian Somerhalder

Here are some photos of Ian Somerhalder pose-harding with a pelican. Actually, I’m making an unfair statement. Ian truly cares about animals, but he always looks like he’s posing it up in every photo. He and Nikki Reed worked together with International Bird Rescue to release the birds together. Ian Instagrammed video footage of the “amazing” day. (It was the birds’ day, not Ian’s day.) He gave an interview about how married life is treating him:

Nikki is so amazing: “The amount of compassion fueled by passion that she puts into the world in regards to animals is second to none. I mean she changes her house into a rescue and a foster home for so many animals and has taken so much time and energy and money of her own with her family, particularly her mom, to foster animals and make sure that they are safe. That in and of itself is really something that solidifies us as a unit that really is an amazing thing to wake up to every morning.”

Marriage is so amazing: Calling married life “unbelievable,” Somerhalder joked about his wedding ring while helping some of the workers at the event release birds into the wild. When handling a pelican, he quipped, “This bird better not steal my new wedding ring! I actually haven’t taken mine off since April.”

[From Us Weekly]

Ian goes on to talk about how he and Nikki want to build “four profit entities that will literally feed our necessary non-prof initiatives till the end of time.” I admire their passion for animals, which seems real. Nikki does house rescued animals at her home, and her mom takes care of them for free room and board. The gushing, coupley stuff is still over the top. Nikki says stuff about how they “literally wake up in the morning and discuss how to make the world a better place.” They’re so fun to discuss.

Ian and Nikki married in April, and he hasn’t taken his ring off even once. That’s sweet, but I think their thirst as a couple overshadows their idealistic ways. I’m including photos of Nikki and Ian out on a Fourth of July grocery run. They parked the car in the shopping center lot, went bike riding for the paps, and came back to buy food.

    Two years. Maybe three.

    • aims says:

I say two years, tops. When the divorce is final, she’ll be remarried within six months.

The bike ride stunt is beyond obnoxious.

    • Nicole says:

      2-3 years for me too.
This is how Nikki sounded with her last husband. She’s one to jump straight into marriage with guys. Don’t see this lasting long either.
Wake me up when they are still this annoying at 5 or 10 years. THEN I’ll tolerate it

    • Liv says:

Yup, 2 years. What I find super creepy is that she seems to adopt her husband’s/boyfriend’s interests. I never heard before about her protecting nature or animals.

I just hope they don’t get children involved in this mess.

@LeAnn stinks: Your name is amazing.

  2. Franca says:

They’re annoying, yet funny and I don’t mind them?

He seems like a nice person, and didn’t he want to get married for ages now?

    • Tiffany says:

Yes he has always said that and did.

When it comes to the two of them, I pick my battles. Pap crazy or bringing harm on to others with assualts or DUI’s.

    • Keaton says:

      That’s basically my take: ‘
Kinda annoying but funny. I don’t mind them. They amuse me . They’re harmless and well meaning.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Yeah, they’re starting to grow on me too. I think they’re a pair of nuts who complement each other well and have something to care about together. It could work.

Also, if they make babies, those will be the most beautiful babies ever. Great genetic material, there!

  3. Kiki says:

Ugh… I am sick of this thirsty couple. The guilable gushing and making ‘oh so cute and sweet’ comments is just over the top and just put your finger in your mouth sick. I am so sorry for this but just go way will ya.

  4. Dorothy#1 says:

My love for him knows no bounds. ❤️❤️

  5. the_blonde_one says:

He looks uncomfortably like Rob Lowe in that Liberace movie. I can’t hate on him (I have no idea who she is) as he seems to put his literal money where his mouth is on activism.

  6. Moxie Remon says:

    *Sigh*

  7. Annie says:

Can they shut up? I never believe couples who gush about each other all the time, post pics to social media everyday, leaving lovey dovey messages for the world to see. They do the most just to prove they’re a “strong” couple. Love is such an intimate, personal thing. A pic every once in a while is sincere. These two are just so thirsty for attention. Nikki says the same things about every guy she dates. I found it tacky that she’d marry so quick after getting divorced the same year. I don’t buy this.

  8. kri says:

Tbh, I don’t get the chills for Rob Lowe’s stunt double. But I will say this-despite their parched behavior, they seem to really care about animals, so I appreciate that. Anyone bringing even a bit of attention to this issue gets a nod.

  9. sofia says:

I just can’t with this guy. I saw a documentary about social media and he appeared in it in the context of how celebrities use social media to capitalize from fans and brands and… he was so excited about the business side of it, about the money. At the time I didn’t know who he was and found it too much. And now I see a theme going on.

  10. G says:

He is so cheesy and gross looking. I don’t get his appeal at all. EVen when he was on LOST i thought he was weid looking

As for Nikki … what is she doing rushing into marriage so quickly? She meets them, is engaged and married within months, talks non stop about how in love she is, then it’s divorce… You can forgive it the fist time, she was young and reckless.

Also… how does Nina Dubrov feel about this? She was good friends with Nikki and with Ian for a long time. Maybe she’s cool with it publicly but i think in private she has a lot of ‘opinions’. He seemed to move on so fast too.

    • Sandra says:

Nina says she’s happy for him and them, but she also quit the Vampire Diaries. She said quitting had nothing to do with it, but how could it not?. I think it would be hard to come to your job and have to kiss the guy you used to be with in real life.

      • mary simon says:

I wish Nina wouldn’t have jumped ship with no job to go to. I think she is going to regret it, but it had to be miserable for her to continue working with Ian after the breakup. I’m sure Ian’s social media couch jumping didn’t help matters – he coupled up with Nicki with a thirsty vengeance. I think he drove Nina off the show.

      • Mia says:

For Nina, I think legitimately she did leave primarily for other reasons. Since season 5, it was said she would leave because she always said she felt it was a “6 season show.” But, I do agree that I think Ian/Nikki parading around in front of her onset had at least a little bit to do with it as well. I think it just accelerated her departure. But, you know what? The quality of TVD has gone down so rapidly since season 4 that I’m glad she left.

  11. Ronda says:

I’ll say something nice: Cookie points for wearing helmets.

  12. angel says:

When you have a purpose and destiny in common, its extra special. soul mates <3

  13. Saks says:

They are so thirsty but I’ll give them a pass because I have huge respect for people who rescue animals, and they seem real at that.

  14. Mimz says:

Yeah maybe too cheesy but I cant hate them. He spends so much time advocating for animals and he seems to be really sweet. His co-stars seem to really care for him, and I’ve never heard a bad word. And you know, some people are cheesy like that, some couples are like that Over the top gushy kind of irritating, but they do no harm.
I hope it lasts. (I was still rooting for him and Nina though, but I guess he was in another place in his life and so is she – rightfully, and she never said a bad word about him)…

  15. Lilian says:

Good for them for being so proactive, hope their plans work out!

  16. Miran says:

Sit down you’ve been married like five minutes.

  17. Tig says:

Shameless plug here- check out the documentary “Pelican Dreams”- focuses on rehabbing Pelicans! It’s great!

As far as Nikki and Ian go- it’s pretty rare for a man to be so upfront about his desire to settle down and admit to being happily married. That is refreshing. I admire their animal rescue efforts. Hope VD has run long enough for him to get residual checks, bec don’t see that show lasting much longer.

  18. Nikki says:

I hope the marriage lasts forever. Niki’s background is very dysfunctional and ( speaking as same ) relationships of any kind never work out. Dysfunctional people don’t have a clue.
Again speaking as someone who knows. Best wishes to them both.

  19. Mia says:

Yawn, these two are so boring and attention starved. NEXT. Ian’s aging horribly in my opinion, I can’t believe I ever thought he was attractive.
