  1. frivolity says:

Whoa, settle down now Walter White!

That was priceless – but probably embarrassing as hell for that poor kid …

  2. merski says:

I kind of feel bad for the kid….? Unless there is some backstory we are not aware of…

    • What was that says:

      Me too!
I never saw the show..on a pay channel here via Murdoch’s Sky which I can’t bring myself to subscribe to ..So I maybe don’t appreciate the character but it seems a bit mean to me….
Why is it funny to embarass someone who is in awe of you????

      • islandwalker says:

Agree. Felt creepy and humiliating. The kid was just a star stuck fan.

      • Katija says:

If Bryan had shot a mean-spirited, personalized insult that humiliated the fan, I’d be sooooooo in your corner.

… but that’s just not what happened.

      • Bridget says:

Seriously. That’s not what your mom said last night’ is so widely used as a joke here that there is no possible way that someone would have taken it seriously. It was a joke, and an obvious one at that. If he’d said “yo momma is so fat” would you have accused him of fat shaming?

    • Lurker says:

He got burned by Walter White. That kid will tell this story forever. If you know BB, what he did makes total sense, and the kid LOVED it.

      • Luce says:

        absolutely

Bryan Cranston is so quick, and there is no doubt this kid loved this story.

  3. Yeses says:

Just when I thought I couldn’t love Bryan Cranston more!!!

P.S. Hopefully someone gave a list of local burn units to the kid..

    • Heather says:

LOL, that was mean, but it’s not like Cranston could just not say it once it occurred to him. Too perfect.

  4. Izzy says:

I must be missing something. What is funny about publicly humiliating a fan and insulting his mother by insinuating he had sex with her? Bryan Cranston looks like a complete jerk here.

    • Chloeee says:

‘Your mom’ is a running joke like ‘that’s what she said’. Probably something this kid has said and had said to him many times in jest by friends. Cranston just applied it at the most opportune moment. It’s obviously in good fun. Lighten up

      • Izzy says:

I understand the joke. I just don’t think it was particularly well-applied or warranted here. People go to Comic-Con as fans to meet the celebrities; is it so hard for a celebrity to NOT be an a-hole under those circumstances? He was PAID to be there. He had ONE JOB – show up to a fan convention and play nice with fans. Perhaps if he had actually followed his comment up with a real answer… but he didn’t. He just acted like he was too cool for school. I remain unimpressed, and I actually am a fan of Bryan Cranston’s work. I just wonder if he’s a jerk in real life.

      • Sea Dragon says:

+1 It was very funny, clever, so cool and everyone enjoyed it, including the kid.

      • Lara K says:

Totally. Fans that go to these things get the play. I would be stoked to get burned by Alan Tyduk or Nathan Fillion.

      • Penelope says:

I had the same thought as Izzy–ok, so it was funny but instead of basking in how cool and clever he was for so long, he could have followed up with a real answer and not been a total smug jerk about it.

    • Anastasia says:

I don’t get it, either. I mean, I get the joke, but it seemed totally unnecessary.

    • Paula says:

ITA, it’s not funny at all, just rude.

    • korra says:

I mean I get what you’re saying. It’s an annoying cultural phrase. But really none of it was viscous, it really just seemed like everyone was playing around.

    • What was that says:

I totally agree..I have been to conventions in Th UK and people are in such awe of these actors and are normally so speechless with excitement to meet their heroes …why be so mean….??
I hate they think that it is funny to try to humiliate someone

    • Josefa says:

Oh please. It’s a “your mom” joke. How can you ever have a conversation with anyone being this sensitive?

      • What was that says:

Not sensitive ..it does not translate to me…and not appropriate in a Q and A unless you know the recipient ..just courtesy …

      • PoliteTeaSipper says:

How can you have conversations with anyone being so judgemental?

      • Izzy says:

Well Josefa and PoliteTeaSipper, here I am engaging in polite conversation and not name-calling other posters on this board. I just thought he was extremely rude. This fan paid quite a bit of money just to attend Comic-Con in the first place, and this was a public venue with a large audience. In a smaller setting, where people are familiar with one another, I could see the humor. In this large venue, with a lot of people and it being recorded, I’m less amused. Still not calling you names just because you’re judging me, though, just saying that Cranston seemed like a jerk.

        See what I did there?

      • Luce says:

Comic-Con is fun and irreverant (which this minor and cute joke doesn’t even merit the “irreverant” label), and there is no way this kid was anything but overjoyed at his quip.

    • Bridget says:

You say you understand the joke, but your post implies otherwise. Watch the clip – you can clearly tell the kid was hoping Cranston would make a joking reply.

    • Mieke says:

So you think he should’ve given a honest answer to what he likes about Albuquerque?

Something polite like, “Oh I loved that and that grocery on so and so”…?

      BORING!

Bryan Cranston is a kind and smart person with a history of cynical characters. That’s what fans love. To be given an answer that could’ve come right out of Walter White’s mouth is more memorable than to know he enjoyed a beer at some bar or absolutely loved the library he visited once.

Also in social situations, when given an answer that is completely opposite of what you would expect from the person you are having a conversation with, is considered a way of dealing with an impossible question. Mr. Cranston would never ever mean he’d do your mom. And he also doesn’t want to let you down by giving a real answer that might disappoint you. Humor is your friend not your enemy…

    • Alexandra says:

Good thing the kid didn’t say he was an orphan…or it would have escalated quickly.

    • Sugar says:

That was a gift to that kid, not a mean burn. The kid will dine out on that for years. After all, you just watched a video of him getting teased my Cranston. Guarantee you that video is on the kid’s phone so he can show all his friends AND his mom. It was hilarious and entirely not mean spirited.

    • SamiHami says:

Oh, please stop clutching your pearls. He made a joke. He didn’t publicly humiliate anyone. Without a doubt that kid absolutely loved it. Cranston was perfect.

  5. daj79 says:

that was so epic that i have sympathy burn somehow. god i love him

  6. BengalCat2000 says:

I miss Breaking Bad so f@cking much!

  7. G says:

LMAO this is hilarious. You need to have a massive stick up your butt to find issue with this.

    • What was that says:

Maybe I have but I think if you are meeting your hero and get that treatment publicised worldwide you may think he is a bit cruel too
Humour is in the eyes of the beholder and I don’t judge but it is not to my taste…

      • Izzy says:

Thank you. That’s exactly my point. This is Comic-Con, where FANS pay a LOT of money to go and meet these celebrities.

      • lucy2 says:

But likely the kid seems him as a “hero” for his great performance as Walter White. So getting burned by Walter White was probably the highlight of his life to this point.
If some actor just randomly replied that way at a Q&A, I could see taking issue with it, but knowing Cranston’s humor and assuming it was a fun, joking around atmosphere, I find it to be a funny joke this kid probably loved.

      • What was that says:

I accept .for reasons given above ..I am not familiar with the character so he may be answering.’.in character.’..but still to an outsider it seems a tad cruel and the fans do lap up anything that these guys say at the time..but afterward well that may be another story….Should we celebrate cruel humour?..I don’t know
It is easy to be unkind sometimes and harder to be funny clever and witty without it being at another’s expense

      • lucy2 says:

If you are not familiar with the character, I can understand it seeming rude.
But context is everything, so within the context of that actor, that character, I bet the kid is legitimately thrilled.

Also, for those who haven’t seen Breaking Bad, it’s a MUST SEE! So great.

      • Bridget says:

It was a silly joke that everyone clearly took as a joke. Do you honestly think the kid expected him to name his favorite breakfast spot? Cranston is known as a funny, witty guy. You can clearly tell the kid was hoping for a joke. It’s fine if you don’t get the joke, especially if English isn’t your first language or if you’re not from the US (humor can truly be hard to translate), but just because you don’t understand it doesn’t make it insulting.

      • chaser says:

I’m with you Bridget, no one goes to Comic Con to hear about the great little breakfast spot. That kid asked that question to stir and to get a decent response to put his home town on the map. He got that response and I bet he is freaking stoked.

      • Izzy says:

OK, so what I am getting now is: 1) this was in line with the character, in which case the real shame is that the kid didn’t immediately come back at him with something like “Hi Dad!”; and 2) I will need to Netflix the crap out of Breaking Bad.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Izzy, imo, breaking bad is the best television show ever made. You should definitely Netflix it!

    • Des says:

All these people saying “But it’s Comic Con! They’re uber fans who paid a lot of money to be here!” have no idea of the demographics of such a place. Go anywhere where geeks hang out and that joke would fit right into the culture.

      • bettyrose says:

Des, yup.His response was perfect and so in line with comi-con culture. People don’t pay to meet celebs. They go to be part of the fantasy of the fictional worlds they love. That kid didn’t want a response from Bryan Cranston. He wanted to be sassed by Walter White.

  8. Sea Dragon says:

    Effing awesome!

  9. Annaliese says:

Was that supposed to be amusing?

    Because, not.

    The guy is a jerk.

    • Mieke says:

No he’s not and that’s exactly why it’s funny. He’s smart and kind and this is not a serious answer, but one that could have come straight out of Walter White’s mouth. If you don’t understand the style of humor he’s known for, it’s easy to see this as rude.

      Honest answer? “Didn’t like Albuquerque.”
Socially acceptable anser? “Oh, I enjoyed having breakfast at so and so.”
Horrible answer? “That town is so boring I don’t know how you can live there.” (and being serioius about it).
Perfect answer? Stupid your mother joke. Dodging the question and referencing the character all in one.

  10. justagirl says:

ok, funny & Cranston is quick-witted….I still don’t get why a nervous kid awkwardly asking “hey did you like my hometown?” needs a “burn” or to “get owned”.

Don’t we usually ‘burn’ or ‘own’ someone in retaliation, after they’ve insulted us?
No, I don’t have a stick up my butt – it might be funny but still a total dick-move from Cranston, random disrespect & humiliation for a young fan, for a cheap laugh.

    • What was that says:

you are so right ..I used to work at fan conventions in the UK ….people are so excited to meet and ask a question which perhaps they have been asked so many times before but..I have never seen an actor be so unkind..sometimes they can be offhand but generally it is their bread and butter and for some young person to be seen by you and me and being ‘burned’..just for asking what did you like about Alberquque…something you would joke to a colleague or a friend in jest ..someone you knew could take the embarrassment but a stranger who paid to meet you and got up courage to ask a question??
Not such a ‘big man’ just a slightly arrogant and cruel one…

    • Amy Tennant says:

Maybe I missed something. Did the kid say something disrespectful to provoke Cranston? Why are we cheering? If Cranston was being heckled, his response would be hilarious. Because it is a good “your mom” joke, as those go, I guess? (I always thought they were kind of misogynistic and unfunny, but I guess he played it well). It just seemed a bit out of nowhere in response to what seemed to be an innocent question. I felt so bad for the kid.

Maybe after the laughter died down, he picked the mic back up and gave the poor kid a better response to his question, and we don’t see that part in the video.

      Lara K. : fellow Browncoat?

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

This? I really thought “Oh there has to be some context here I don’t get. Maybe the kid was rude or asking about Alberquerque is a set up for burning someone” but uh…apparently not. So yeah I don’t think he’s a monster but I’m not sure why were applauding, is there some inside joke to this?

    • Anastasia says:

I’ve watched every episode of Breaking Bad, and agree with you. In character or not, the kid did nothing to deserve that, so it felt very out of context.

  11. Tiffany says:

So Lainey thinks Kate is a asset. Is she reading something I am not.

    • Lucky Charm says:

Maybe Pippa wrote a book on “How to be a Great Asset to the Monarch”?

      • What was that says:

Gosh ..is that in the shops now ??Can I order it at Amazon ,??
I think she is such a great author . And inspiration to others !!! How does she do it?…all that and more!!!
..in fairness Lucky Charm don’t give her ideas !!!…sell them to her!!!
or maybe in Pipp’s case it with arsett!! Sorry to be crude!!!
        .

  12. Norman Bates' Mother says:

Was Miss Nevada hand-picked by His Orange Hatefulness Trump himself? – “What I would do to improve race relations in the U.S. is get more racist groups together…”. Oh boy.

    • pinetree13 says:

…that entire link was comedy gold!!!!!!!! i am still laughing. “we need politicians to tell us when to do right and when to do wrong” lolololololol

    • SamiHami says:

OMG did she really say that? “Get racist groups together?”

  13. blou says:

Princess Charlene’s speech was very sweet! It’s crazy how much more relaxed she seems now!
In the speech, she switched between formal and informal ‘you’ (those are difficult to master when your native language doesn’t have those) so I think that maybe she wrote it herself?
In any case, those two are growing on me.

Also, heard Albert speak for the first time. We don’t have royalty in France (yay Bastille day tomorrow!), so I don’t know what I was expecting, but probably a posh accent… He doesn’t!!

  14. Zip says:

I’m getting really tired of these comments of the professionally offended on this site. Cranston obviously made a “yo mama” joke. That was much funnier than a boring, politically correct answer about his time in Albuquerque that everyone will have forgotten about the moment they heard it. He didn’t make a mean impression to me. He cracked a joke and the people there thought it was funny. Go figure.

    • Amy Tennant says:

I guess. I put myself in the kid’s shoes and thought I would have been embarrassed, but who knows how he felt or how it came across at the event.

      • Bridget says:

Considering that most Breaking Bad fans desperately want Aaron Paul to call them “Bitch” I would imagine Bryan Cranston making a silly joke would be right in his wheelhouse.

      • Amy Tennant says:

I can definitely understand wanting Aaron to call you bitch. I get that. And I did think maybe BC really hated Albuquerque so making a joke was the best answer? I’ve been to a lot of cons and attended a lot of these Q&as, and the atmosphere is usually lighthearted.

      • Esmom says:

        Bridget, Ha, good point.

      • Izzy says:

Bridget, thank you for making that point. It does help explain this in a different context, and you managed to do so without resorting to name-calling or insulting my intelligence, which I also appreciate. 🙂

    • Izzy says:

So sorry you’re offended by others’ opinions. However, we come here to express them, and in doing so, I’ve learned that apparently this is something his character Walter White might have done? It still isn’t funny to me, but humor can be quite subjective.

    • What was that says:

you must allow for others to disagree in the nature of all things and it has been explained that the venue, the nature of the questioner ,the laugh -at whose cost?.. make it a reasonable debate…
I for one would not like to see anyone embarrassed worldwide and do not find that humour funny or clever..that you do is OK ..so why then decide to criticise others for not agreeing with you ..I thought that the whole point was to read and understand other people’s point of view and learn from it and as the native Americans would say walk a mile in others moccasins…

    • claire says:

@Izzy: no, it’s not in particular something WW does. It’s something a funny person does. Or a person clued-in to internet humor does. The kids was probably cracking up and stoked he got a joke-burn from an actor he admires.

      • KellyBee says:

O ya you know asking an actor I admired a simple question and in return getting burnt so funny his life must be complete now.

      • Izzy says:

Well, since you seem to like putting others down too, did you go to the Walter White School of Humor? Seriously, not everyone thinks it’s funny. That doesn’t make them stupid or clueless.

    • Lurker says:

That kid will love that moment forever. If you watched Breaking Bad, you get it. He got burned by Walter White. Heisenberg, FFS. And it was a harmless “yo mama” joke to boot.

      • Izzy says:

So it IS a WW character thing. Thank you for at least clarifying without resorting to name-calling. For those of us who didn’t religiously watch the show, this joke does not register very high on the laugh scale.

  15. elle says:

That’s the “best mic-drop burn?” Wow, low standards. I was expecting something… I don’t know… witty? And delivered to someone who deserved it, instead of a star-struck, stammering kid.

  16. G says:

Oh with the clutching of the pearls! It’s Comic Con! You either get it or you don’t.

  17. Katija says:

I can’t believe people are actually calling Bryan a jerk. COME ON, YOU GUYS. If Taylor Swift had said this to a nervous 12-year-old girl, it’d be a different story. (Although, can you imagine? LOL) But it’s a snickering 20-year-old boy, it’s a room full of fans of a VERY explicit, dark show – Bryan’s smirking and trying not to laugh. This was all in good fun and that kid is probably a social media hero at his college right now.

    • Neah23 says:

If your going to point out that the guy Is 20 would you please stop referring to him as a kid.

  18. pinetree13 says:

OH my gosh TRUMP IS SO DUMB:
“Now that the Mexican drug lord escaped from prison, everyone is saying that most of the cocaine etc. coming into the U.S. comes over border!” “…but that’s what I’ve been saying. Very unfair treatment by the media!”

THAT IS NOT WHAT PEOPLE WERE UPSET ABOUT! Epic face palm! No one is disagreeing that drugs are smuggled in across the US-Mexico border…cocaine is grown tropically after all. They were upset about your generalizing AN ENTIRE COUNTRY OF PEOPLE as ALL being criminals. The stupidity…it hurts.

  19. KB says:

The kid wasn’t looking for an honest answer, he was looking to have a moment with one of his favorite actors (I assume). Cranston delivered. This kid will forever have that moment when Walter ****ing White dropped a yo mama joke on him. I’m not sure if it’s an age thing, or an Internet culture thing, or what but for the naysayers, trust me when I say that is the highest honor a fan of Breaking Bad could ever receive.

  20. SamiHami says:

Oh, and that is not Mickey Rourke. I don’t know who it is, but it’s not Rourke.

  21. mander says:

Really people? Just a joke. He loves his fans and answered the boy’s question after.
