2015 Emmy nominations: who got recognized & who got snubbed?

wenn22043755

The 2015 Emmy nominations finally came out yesterday afternoon. I had forgotten about them. I had forgotten that they were being released later in the day this year too – I personally prefer it when any awards nominations come out very early in the morning, that way you get a full day to sit and stew and get angry about who didn’t get nominated for what. You can see the full list of Emmy nominees here. I’m just posting the bigger categories.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
“Better Call Saul” “Downton Abbey” “Game of Thrones” “Homeland” “House of Cards” “Mad Men” “Orange is the New Black”

Lena Headey, “Game Of Thrones”
Emilia Clarke, “Game Of Thrones”
Christine Baranski, “The Good Wife”
Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”
Uzo Aduba, “Orange Is The New Black”

No Archie Panjabi for the last season on The Good Wife. But no Julianna Margulies for TGW either – the only acting nominations for TGW are for Christina Baranski (Diane Lockhart is my spirit animal) and Alan Cumming (who is painfully underutilized). Other notable snubs: no Sofia Vergara, Ed O’Neill or Jesse Tyler Ferguson for Modern Family. No Terrence Howard for Empire and no Empire nom for Best Drama. No Lena Dunham for Girls (hahaha) and no Girls. I’m so glad that the intelligentsia’s love affair with Girls is coming to a close, it was always a terrible series. No Big Bang Theory, no Kaley Cuoco and no Jim Parsons (I’m not sad about BBT but I do like Parsons).

It’s wonderful to see Tatiana Maslany get recognized for her years of great work on Orphan Black. It’s also great to see Dinklage, Headey and Clarke get nominations for Game of Thrones. It’s great to see Jon Hamm get one final nomination for Mad Men – he’s never won the Emmy for what will always be his most iconic role as Don Draper. Regardless of what you think of Hamm, he definitely did Emmy-worthy work throughout Mad Men’s run, as did Christina Hendricks and Elisabeth Moss. It’s also nice to see two African-American women nominated in the lead actress category for drama, and I think the race probably will be between Viola (YAY!) and Taraji (!!).

  1. Esmom says:

I’m so happy Better Call Saul is getting recognized. Odenkirk and Banks were phenomenal. I can think of a few moments on screen with Banks in particular that probably sealed his nomination.

Also, I can’t figure out why DA keeps getting nominated. I enjoy it on one level but also don’t find the writing to be anywhere on par with the other nominees.

    • lisa2 says:

I don’t watch a lot of TV.. so most of the shows I don’t know anything about. I do watch Better Call Saul; and it such wonderful show. I glad it got some recognition.

      • joan says:

Jon Hamm deserves to win because he WAS that role.
Who else could play it like he did?

And Alan Cumming is so good I know he would be even better if they gave him more to do.

    • Kiddo says:

I love the show, but it’s so new, I think it may be passed over.

      • Esmom says:

Agree. But the fact that it was nominated makes me feel like its future is more secure at least. I don’t think it was all that widely watched.

      • Kiddo says:

I think GoT or Madmen will win for either sentimental reasons (going off air) or popularity (number of viewers).

      • BengalCat2000 says:

@kiddo, Agreed. I think it will win later on. Love that Bob Odenkirk is finally getting recognized. He’s been around for so long. Love him!!

      • Tiffany :) says:

I think it might get passed over for series and lead actor…but I think they have a strong shot at Best Supporting Actor with Jonathan Banks. He wasn’t awarded for his work for this same character on Breaking Bad, even though he knocked it out of the park in every scene he was in.

    • pj3 says:

I agree this wasn’t DAs best year & it should have been passed over, though as a fan, I’m not bothered. I would have given the Supporting Actor nod to Rob James-Collier over Jim Carter though. To make a character like Barrow even the slightest bit sympathetic takes some talent.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Banks’ work on the episode he’s nominated for is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen in my life.

  2. bammer says:

Sorry for Sam Heughan. He did phenomenal work on Outlander.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

I couldn’t get into Outlander, but I’d give that man awards for looking beautiful in a kilt.

    • Denisemich says:

Outlander moved so slowly it was not worthy of renewal much less an emmy nod.

    • tracking says:

He was great, but Tobias Menzies not getting a best supporting nom is downright criminal. I know Alan Cumming is beloved, and for good reason, but his TGW work does not compare.

      • eribra says:

Tobias Menzies deserves some recognition! He was terrifying in the garrison commander episode.

    • Sarah says:

I think he was great, but wow that show lost me this season. I just couldn’t. I got sick and tired of rape and violence and threats of rape and violence and rape combined with horrible violence. I checked out about 3 episodes in and won’t go back.

      • chaser says:

Totally. I ordered the entire season and only watched two episodes after the mid year break. I will never go back. Poorly paced and too far-fetched (even based on the book).

    • kimmy says:

I thought Sam was the weakest link of a SUPER SLOW moving show. He did get much better towards the end. Tobias Menzies was much more compelling.

I’ve read the first 3 Outlander books and they drive me nuts. Ok, we get it, Claire and Jamie love each other. But dammit…..stop getting into ridiculous situations that require one to rescue the other!

    • Andrea says:

I am sad too, what an amazing job he did. I love that show! Although brutal at times, I think it holds very true to the books.

  3. minx says:

Agree about Jon Hamm– whatever his personal life, that was an iconic role.

    • BengalCat2000 says:

I HATED the last episode of Mad Men, but think everyone did a great job. I would love for Christina Hendricks to win!

    • tracking says:

Yes, he should be rewarded for creating an iconic character for sure.

    • Susiecue says:

I will be so upset if he doesn’t win. One of the greatest TV characters and performances of all time!

    • Jaygee says:

The biggest obstacle for him winning is that this is the role that made him famous and people are forever going to think he IS Draper. As if there’s no acting involved.

    • Sugar says:

Hamm was perfection as Don Draper. I think he’s been overlooked because the character is so taciturn and his acting so subtle. But you could read Don Draper’s thoughts through Hamm’s acting, which is next level acting.

      • Davy says:

        This list is utter horsesh*t.

No “broad city” at all? That is hands down the funniest show on TV.

Finally FINALLY Tatiana gets nominated tho! Too bad it’s for the worst season of that show. Likewise, love me some Dinklage but hardly his meatiest season.

Jon Hamm should win he’s been nominated the last 8 years for the series entire run, no way should he lose.

No Charlie hunnam or Tim Olyphant or Walton Goggins?? For real? The last season of Justified was a perfect season. No way does Ray fucking Donovan produce better content no shade to Liev just come on! Charlie fucking killed it as Jax even if the final season was the worst of the run. Lead actor category is the worst, Charlie & Tim deserve nods for their final seasons and I’m sorry but better call Saul is SO boring. I love breaking bad and these actors but that show makes me long for the superior entertainment of watching paint dry.

And hilarious to see Emilia Clarke nominated as GOT fans are constantly griping about how much she sucks as Dany (I don’t mind her but her performance is fairly universally panned).

A couple correct choices but overall garbage.

    • laura in LA says:

      +1
I hope Jon Hamm wins – and that Mad Men sweeps the Emmys.

    • WillowS says:

Yes-he deserves to win as do Elizabeth Moss and Christina Hendricks.

I wonder why “The Affair” didn’t get any nominations? I though the acting on that show was excellent.

  4. Emily says:

    C’mon Tatiana! 😀

    • Denisemich says:

Agree. But was this the best season of Orphan Black? Tatiana has been playing upwards of 5 characters on a show… that deserves more than a nod.

    • Katenotkatie says:

Yessss Tatiana! She’s absurdly talented- I always forget that she’s the only person playing each of the clones. It must be the most physically and emotionally exhausting job but she’s always on top of her game. Love her.

    • Andrea says:

I loved the first two seasons of Orphan Black, but watching season three now, I feel the storyline is all over the place and I cannot believe they killed off Paul. 🙁 I still think she deserves the award, she is an amazing actress, but meh to season 3 (I have 3 episodes left).

    • Tania says:

Agreed. I don’t know how she does it but I absolutely believe they are separate characters despite all being played by one person. She is amazing. And for those of you who haven’t seen the show, I highly recommend you watch it. It’s fabulous!

    • Mixtape says:

Yes, so thrilled with this nomination!! However, competition in that Lead Actress category is TOUGH this year.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I’m rooting for Tatiana! This wasn’t my fave season, but it was the writing, not her acting. During a behind scenes clip, T was talking about a Helena scene while looking more like Sarah. I was thinking why are they talking to her, and not the actress who played in that scene? …then I remembered they are the same person. Watching for 3 years and she can still make me forget it’s the same person. Soooo talented!

      • Lucy2 says:

That’s funny Tiffany, I had the same reaction to that interview! Why are they interviewing her about someone else’s character…oh wait.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Ha! Glad to know I am not the only one. 😀

  5. GlimmerBunny says:

Yay for GoT getting the most nominations. Lena Headey needs to win! I can’t believe Emilia Clarke got nominated, especially for this season – she is terrible as Dany. Peter Dinklage is a great actor but last season was his best (the speech at the trial!) so I don’t think he should win this year.

    • Mom2two says:

Glimmerbunny, I agree. I am glad Lena was imitated but no way should Emilia be. If they wanted to nominate someone else from GoT why not Sophie Turner? Even though I hated the Sansa in Winterfell storyline, she did her best work on the show so far with it. Peter just did not have a lot to do this year, he would have been a deserving winner last year but this year I would have rather seen Stephen Dillane, Alfie Allen or Outlander’s Tobias Menzies nominated over Peter.
No matter what I think of Jon Hamm personally, he is long overdue for a win as Don Draper. Glad to see Tatiana Maslany finally get a nod and I hope she wins as no actress on television is doing what she’s doing and she deserves to be commended for playing several great roles.

      • GlimmerBunny says:

Yeah, I agree with you about Sophie but I honestly don’t think any of the girls except Lena deserved it – I think January Jones should have gotten a nom for Betty in Mad Men instead. I’m very happy Jon Hamm and Christina Hendricks got nominated though.

And Stephen Dillane definitely deserved a nom, as much as I HATE what they did to Stannis (out-of-character doesn’t even begin to describe it, the Mannis in the books would never CONSIDER burning Shireen) this season, he played it beautifully.

      • mom2two says:

@Glimmerbunny, Yes, I hated what they did to Stannis too and Dillane did a great job despite it all, which makes him nomination worthy.

      • Josefa says:

Finally someone else recognises how great Sophie is as Sansa. Yeah she can be annoying, and a lot of the time it sounds like she’s reciting and not even trying to act – but that makes perfect sense for Sansa as a charater. She is surrounded by people who have literally murdered her whole family, and her life depends on how well she behaves. And shes a teenager on top of that. Sophie does a wonderful job.

Though really – every other actress on the show would’ve made more sense than Emilia. If they wanted to recognise a hot young female, why not Natalie? She kills it as Margaery.

      • Alyce says:

I think Sophie Turner is phenomenal as Sansa and I was hoping she’d be nominated too! I must be strange, but I like Emilia Clark as Dany too.

    • pretty says:

she is like the worst actor in the show. can’t stand watching her scenes….. is making viewers to hate the character producers’ intention? cause i hope she fails in her quest to the throne. lol

      • Happy21 says:

She is by far the weakest link on a show filled with amazing actors and actresses. Why she got nominated is beyond me!

    • kimmy says:

So happy that Peter Dinklage got nominated, but really…..they are making up for last year. Last year he was incredible. This season, he wasn’t bad….just not much to do.

Lena though….I’m rooting for her. She took Cersei to another level.

@Glimmerbunny….how do you know Stannis wouldn’t do that? GRRM may have had that in the works all along. He ok’d it. I think if he got desperate enough, he would do anything.

      • GlimmerBunny says:

In the books Stannis isn’t even WITH Shireenright now, he’s at winterfell and Shireenright is at the Wall with Melisandre, who is 100% gonna be responsible for Shireens eventual demise (probably to resurrect Jon). Stannis also says to Davos that if he dies in the battle against the Boltons, Davos should try to make Shireen queen. And he also refuses to burn even random non-believers in his army on the march to Winterfell. Stannis loves his daughter more than he wants to be king in the books, shame the show ruined that whole storyline.

      • mams says:

@glimmerbunny George RR Martin actually defended the show runners re:burning Shireen because he said it does indeed happen in the next book. Sorry you missed that tidbit a while back!

    • Original T.C. says:

I am clapping like a mad woman at the Lena nomination and rooting for her to win. She was so good last season and that attack on Hardhome (sp?) alone makes the series worthy of a nom. Agree Sophia Turner should have taken Emilia Clark’s place but the Emmy’s would have been burnt to the ground for nominating her for that rape storyline because so many are offended by it (even though Sansa is placed in the role of another character who went through the same trauma in the books AND Jon & Jaime too were placed in roles played by other characters in the book)

    • Ugh. I know. Emilia Clarke is SO monotone and flat, it’s ridiculous. She’s a terrible actress as Dany. Her high point was in the first season, when all her scenes were with Jason Mamoa. After that, it just started going downhill.

  6. v1nc3nt says:

    Finally Tatiana Maslany!!!!

    • kinta says:

Yeah, I am happy about that too! I also watch HTGAWM and I really like Viola but it is not the same as one actress playing like…. 10-15 characters in a show all by herself. I think Tatiana really deserves this.

  7. Izzy says:

Tatiana Maslany is so overdue for this nomination.

  8. Lindy79 says:

With a few exceptions it’s very meh. Emilia, no. Downton, no. I hope they dont do the usual last year of a show thing and just give Mad Men everything. However, Tatiana YES!

The Americans passed over again, and Outlander though not to everyone’s taste produced some amazing work from the three leads, and no Penny Dreadful??

    • Denisemich says:

Americans wasn’t passed over. Margo Martindale received a nomination. That is one hard working woman. She was in Americans, Millers and that Meryl Streep movie.

  9. Deb says:

Really happy to see “Bessie” get so many noms. I love Queen Latifah, and she was great in it, but I thought Mo’Nique as Ma Rainey was especially fantastic! I really hope she gets the Emmy.
Kind of brought a tear to my eye that Agatha Christie’s Poirot got a nomination for the final episode too. *sniff*

  10. Kiki says:

I hope that Viola Davis is the first black actress to,win the Emmy. This woman is what you call an actress. And I hope Jon Hamm wins an Emmy award as well, he deserves it after a while. I wish all the nominees well.

    • Alex says:

I think Viola is on the short list to win along with Taraji. Which yay for WOC. I was sad that Gina didn’t get a nom…Jane the Virgin is probably the most surprising show that I’m hooked on

  11. Lucy2 says:

    So happy for Tatiana!
Very disappointed that in its final season, Justified was once again ignored, well something that may be entertaining but is not high-quality, like Downton Abby, continues to get nominated. Justified was such a great show. Other than that the nominations are pretty good.

  12. Eleonor says:

    I am rooting for Poirot.

    • Deb says:

Me too! I have loved that series for years and it’s so sad it’s finished now.

      • Eleonor says:

I love everything about it, the music, the amazing costumes and David Suchet. He is AMAZING.

      • Giddy says:

I love Poirot so much! I re-watch old episodes all the time. And yes, the music, the costumes, and also the cars and the wonderful locations. They get it so exactly right!

      • Eleonor says:

@Giddy: I always say “If I could I would dress like the ladies in Poirot, all the time” 😀
When “Last courtain aired I was so sad.

    • Willa says:

I love Poirot. I didn’t realize it was still being filmed. I thought David Suchet had retired.

  13. Ainsley says:

Penny Dreadful completely shut out. I love that show 🙁

    • Carmen says:

Even worse — they snubbed “Bates Motel”. Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore absolutely tore it up every Monday night.

      • Dani8 says:

So true Carmen. This was my first thought. The acting is elevated on Bates. I don’t know if it is the subject matter that causes the lack of critical acclaim but the actors are mesmerizing on that show. A crying shame they receive no accolades.

  14. Jackson says:

Thrilled that Better Call Saul/Bob Odenkirk/Jonathan Banks were nominated. I don’t watch any of the other nominated shows but boy, these guys were great in the premier season. Cannot wait for it to start again.

  15. Luca76 says:

Tatiana YAY!!! But I think Taraji should win hands down because she owns everything as Cookie and I want to see exactly what she will say on that podium.
I also really want Jon Hamm to win regardless of everything because his portrayal of Don Draper was a masterpiece.

  16. Tifzlan says:

JANE THE VIRGIN GOT SNUBBED, THAT’S WHO!!!!!

But yes, happy for Better Call Saul. Rooting for Bob Odenkirk coz he deserves it but also Kyle Chandler because Coach Taylor 4 eva.

Also, Eid Mubarak to my fellow Muslim celebitches! 💖

  17. Marigold says:

Why no Americans!? Why no Keri Russell or Matthew Rhys?! Happy about Odenkirk and Banks and Better Call Saul. I, personally, loved the last episode of Mad Men and thought Jon Hamm and Elisabeth Moss were given great material this year. I’m sad that John Slattery was overlooked. I hate watch Downton every week when it’s on but seriously, that show is stealing some heavy Emmy real estate and it’s getting very annoying.

  18. reggae says:

I’m not American so could someone please tell me the importance of the Emmys? Are they the equivalence of the Oscars or golden globes?

  19. AG-UK says:

No Justified!! I can’t get into How to get away with Murder love her but can’t stand the rest of the cast. Love VEEP watched only 2 episodes of Downton Abby seems
More popular in the U.S. Honourable Woman v good.

    • Hautie says:

Justified has been robbed for years, with no nominations for Drama series or acting for the main cast. I had hoped at least get a drama nod to this last season. Since it was an outrageously great ending.

I am more surprise that Sam Elliott didn’t get a guest starting nomination. In the past that is the only nominations Justified has earned, is for guest stars from the second season. Which they won.

But I will admit… I was happy to see lots of new names being nominated in the acting categories. It is nice to see some new faces.

(And yea… I want to see Mad Men finally win some acting awards from the Emmy’s.)

    • Lucy2 says:

I love Viola, but can’t get into the show either. The supporting characters are extremely annoying. I’m happy for her nomination though, she does great work.

    • kennedy says:

I am still sad Justified wasn’t nominated. It had one of the best final seasons – and series finales – EVER. And it is SO GREAT. Ugh.

Also sad Charlie Hunnam wasn’t nominated for SOA. He had a really strong season even if the show itself kind of sucked in its last season.

  20. karen says:

Shocked that Bloodline got ANY noms. I adore Kyle Chandler, but the show was not great, not even good….in my opinion. Also shocked that AHS got any noms. It was by far the weakest season.
Very glad to see Better Call Saul getting some love, bummed that shows like The Americans (aside from Margo Martindale) and Bates Motel overlooked. Vera Farmiga is incredible on Bates.
I’m rooting for Liev, but I kinda think this is Jon Hamm’s year.
A couple of other shows I wish would get some recognition are Rectify and The Leftovers.

    • tracking says:

I agree with all of this, especially that Bloodline is not good.

      • karen says:

I watched Bloodline, but it was just didn’t do it for me. I’m not afraid of slow shows, lol (Leftovers, Rectify) but I didn’t find any of the characters on Bloodline compelling or even likable, so it was hard to care about it.

    • kimmy says:

Right? I think Jon Hamm may take it just like Kyle Chandler FINALLY took it his last year for FNL. Bloodline just made me miss FNL and Coach Taylor. =/

      • kcarp says:

I didn’t care for Bloodline either. I watched the entire season and all I could keep thinking was Coach Taylor got fat and likes to say the F word, Tammy Taylor would not put up with this kind of BS out of Coach.

      • tracking says:

        lol kcarp

  21. Norman Bates' Mother says:

I’m so happy for my beloved Parks&Rec and still angry at the executives for deciding to cancel it. Even though they were doing what they they could to ruin it – cutting the season in half, showing two episodes a week, ending the series in 7 weeks, lowering the budget as much as they could, it was still enjoyable and the nominations are well-deserved. I wish Nick Offerman got nominated too.

    • Lucy2 says:

I hope the show and Amy win, and agree Nick should have been recognized too.
I don’t know if it was really cancelled though, or just agreed go end after season 7. I think most tv contracts are 7 years? I do agree that the 2 episode/night burn off was lousy by NBC. They suck in general.

    • KB says:

It actually wasn’t cancelled. Mike Schur, the co-creator and showrunner decided to end it (although I’m sure NBC was relieved because they have terrible taste.) There was so much uncertainty throughout its run, they basically wrote a series finale twice a season, in case the show had its episode order cut to 13 and at the end of each season in case it was cancelled. I think it was the right call on Schur’s part to take control of the situation and end it on their terms so they could write a satisfying final season. Season 7 and the finale were perfection in my opinion.

  22. pretty says:

the Tyion(Imp) actor from GoT … why does he get so much recognition? his acting is nothing special, if anything, his accent is ATROCIOUS and he comes off lazy, he should be practicing more cause, look at Renee Zelleweger from Bridget Jones Diaries. she just nails the accent in those movies. I don’t get it. what the hell.. his acting is really average. there are TONS of great actors in GoT besides him.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Did you see season 4 of GoT? If you did, reconsider your opinion of what “good acting” is – his work in the trial scene and when he confronted Tywin was impeccable. His accent has gotten a lot better over the seasons too,

  23. frivolity says:

    Just my insignificant thoughts:
    – So glad Julianna Margulies got snubbed. I never understood all her nominations. She is a BAD actress who brings down the other stellar actors on her show.
    – Long overdue for Tatiana Maslany, though I think her show jumped the shark awhile ago. (Maybe it can recover next season? It really needs better writing and needs to go back to basics.)
    – No Justified! Not as bad as all of the neglect of the Wire and Deadwood, but boy would I like to see Timothy Olyphant in attendance.
    – They need to give it a rest with Claire Danes and Homeland. Both have always been overrated. The Americans should have filled in some of those slots.
    – Yay for Better Call Saul! It’s frankly amazing how good of a show it is after following Breaking Bad.
    – I love love love Andre Brauer, but I think others on Brooklyn Nine-Nine should have been recognized too. (Enough with Modern Family. They’re good, but they’ve had their time.)

    • tracking says:

I disagree on Homeland, this season was by far the best. But I think Mandy Patinkin was the standout, not Danes. I’m also pleased that Margulies was snubbed.

    • mia girl says:

What about Ellie Kemper? I think that is one of the biggest snubs of all.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was nominated for best comedy series, best supporting actor and actress in a comedy series and best guest actor and actress in a comedy series.

I feel bad for Kemper. There are 7 male nominees in the lead actor in a comedy category but only 6 women. They couldn’t add a 7th nominee? She is the heart of that program. I don’t understand.

      • Happy21 says:

I’ve been binge watching Kimmy for two days now and am almost done the first season. She is absolutely amazing. I love her. I feel that she was totally snubbed too.

      • karen says:

Yep, the disparity in the number of noms for men vs women is inexplicable to me. Ugh

      • frivolity says:

You’re right! Kemper is an oversight. Very well-deserved for Titus Burgess, though.

      • Davy says:

Good point. She deserves to be there.

    • Jib says:

Oh, I’m glad Marguiles was snubbed too – I think that she is 90% bad and 10% ok. And she did nothing this year on the show, nor did Archie P. Now Diane Lockhart had a good year, but I doubt she’ll win. Since she was nominated and Marguiles wasn’t, I wonder if JM will decide to hate her now. I don’t know, I think taking on Baranski is a whole different ball game than freezing out Archie P!

  24. tracking says:

No Mandy Patinkin best supporting for Homeland? No Carrie Coon for Leftovers? There are some very unimaginative, and not all that worthy, selections on this list. Annoying when it starts to feel like a popularity contest.

    • Ferdinand says:

Carrie Coon was definitely robbed! He was amazing in The Leftovers. I thought that after doing a good job as a Ben affleck’s sister in Gone girl the Emmy nod was a lock. I guess not.

But we all know she could have won all the awards with only one scene from the show.

    • mia girl says:

Yes! Carrie Coon was robbed. She definitely delivered one of the strongest dramatic performances this season.
      I love her.

    • WillowS says:

Yes-Carrie Coon should have been nominated. I thought she was awesome on that show.

  25. Peggy says:

Wait did they miss Justin Theroux running in a sweat pants with no underwear or his appearance at Esquire round table or the HR, I thought he had a lock on the nomination, now he’ll be #1 snub like his fiancee.

  26. Ferdinand says:

Actually this was GIRLS’ best season ever! They finally showed some character growth and development and the season finally was more than I expected. Defitely was one of the best finales I’ve seen in TV.
The series could have ended with season 4 and I would have been happy with that.

    • WillowS says:

I like “Girls” and thought that this season was good as well. I don’t understand all the hate for that show.

  27. FingerBinger says:

Tatiana deserved that nomination. I’m so over Claire Danes. I don’t understand why she and Downton Abbey always gets nominated.

  28. Cdoggy says:

I dont get to watch much tv due to my travel schedule. That being said, I do get to watch a lot of The Middle on planes. That show is funny and touching all at once and just makes me feel better when I watch it. The actress who plays Sue Heck is definitely being snubbed. She is amazing!

    • Tiffany says:

Eden Sher brought it this year. The episode where she broke up with Darren should have been submitted. Even the episode where she was attending her prom would have been a great one.

  29. Cate says:

Eva Green on Penny Dreadful is everything. I also think Michael Sheen for Masters of Sex and Tobias Menzies for Outlander are pretty incredible. It’s a shame none of them received recognition.

    • tracking says:

I made the same comment about Tobias Menzies above–so compelling and believable as two polar opposite characters.

  30. mytbean says:

Sort of a side note: I love Dinklage’s shoes. On my screen they have this cool subtle oxidized seafoam green patina to them. Anyone know who they’re by?

  31. Dawn says:

I loved Parks and Rec but after seeing Veep I have to hope the emmy goes to them. I just love Veep!

  32. Andrea says:

The Americans and Masters of Sex got left out and they both deserve awards—I am over Homeland.

  33. Daisy says:

Wolf Hall got five BIG nominations, all completely deserved IMHO — Outstanding Miniseries, Outstanding Direction for a Miniseries, Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries and then Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis got Lead and Supporting Actor in a Miniseries. I’m thrilled to see them get recognized for what was a great show.
Other nominees in those categories include American Horror Show, The Honourable Woman, and Olive Kitteridge — I’m definitely rooting for Wolf Hall, although The Honourable Woman was also good.

  34. Murphy says:

    A thing like that.

  35. dr mantis toboggan says:

    Vikings dammit!

  36. Brittney B says:

TATIANA!!!!! When I saw this headline, I held my breath opening the link… because I was sure she’d get snubbed yet again. This season wasn’t even the best one, but she did some stunning work (per usual), especially in the final episodes… and I’m so happy for her.

Of course, Viola and Taraji as the top two contenders in one of the top two categories… also heart-warming and tear-provoking. TV is changing, slowly but surely. Thank god for that.

  37. Olive says:

TELEVISION MOVIE: Grace of Monaco??? Is this a joke?
After this movie was bypassed a theatrical release is this Weinstein´s last try to buy at least a tv award?

  38. Matador says:

Can we please dispense with referring to those who didn’t get a nominated as being “snubbed”? They came up short in votes; they were not intentionally blackballed from the final ballot.

    • allons-y alonso says:

Honestly, with the way things work on planet Hollyweird, ballots are probably not that big a factor.

      • Matador says:

Actually, ballots are the big factor. With nominations it comes down to what shows people in the industry are watching and who they know; that’s why if a show doesn’t get noticed early in its run, it is highly unlikely it will ever become Emmy dominant. That’s what “The Americans” faces. The voters aren’t watching it but when they see Margo Martindale’s name for Guest Actor – they know her, so she can still get nominated while the overall show is overlooked. For everyone complaining about “Justified” or “SOA,” well, the writing is unfortunately on the wall in the first few seasons.

Which is why Maslany jumping into contention her third time out was a legitimate shock. It’s easier for voters to lose interest in shows they’ve supported in the past (“Girls,” “The Big Bang Theory”) than to pick up an interest in a show well into its run.

  39. Amy M. says:

Parks and Rec!! I only got into the show this year (sadly since it just ended) and am obsessed. The drama in local government reminds me of my hometown’s city hall. Like our local paper covers the inane politics of leaf blowing bans (for real) and the inadequate parking and whether there are too many McMansions being built. The pettiness and cattiness amongst the local politicians are hilarious.

  40. db says:

    No Mads Mikkelsen. Sniff.

  41. allons-y alonso says:

And once again, Hannibal gets the snub. 🙁

  42. Kiki04 says:

I’m probably in the minority, but so so so happy no Big Bang Theory awards (or atleast major awards). I’ve been over that show for so many seasons, so glad they’re finally nominating better shows.

    • Lucy2 says:

I’m with you! That show irritates me so badly, and I can’t figure out why it and the lead actor were considered award worthy.

  43. Mrs. Darcy says:

The Americans getting shut out for Downton Abbey is a joke. Justified getting no love as per usual, despite it being it’s last season, ditto for Sons of Anarchy (though I think the last season was kind of a turkey Katey Segal never being nominated is a crime). I am glad William H.Macy got a nom, Shameless gets so overlooked because it’s kind of a comeday drama blend imo. I don’t think The Good Wife deserved any awards this season, aside from maybe Archie Panjabi for getting the boot after doing nothing but lift the show all season. Emilia Clarke and Joanna Froggart’s noms could have gone to any number of more worthy performances I think too, sorry. Outlander had the darkest second half of a season, probably too uncomfortable for voters maybe but Tobias and Sam were great. I also don’t understand why The Walking Dead gets no love for any of its actors – Melissa McBride and Norman Reedus esp. this yr. are killing it. (I’m still halfway through s.5).

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

And Bates Motel, how could I forget! If American Horror Story can get a nom. For the lead performances at least, love Vera and Freddie.

      • Tiffany says:

I finally read all of the comments and thought someone would bring up no Vera Farmiga. Freddie Highmore. Those are the true snubs.

  44. K says:

Saying anyone not getting a nom from Modern Family is a snub is inaccurate. No one on that show or the show itself deserves a single nomination. It is no longer good.

Thrilled that at least one person on Brooklyn 99 got a nomination Andrea is brilliant on that show, and it is my second favorite show to Mindy Project, and should have gotten best show nomination. I also think Mindy Project was a major snub which in writing, show and at least Chris Messina but I’ say Kahling too.

Thrilled Veep got best show and multiple acting nominations it is fanatic. Oh and so so so happy for Kyle Chandler love him.

Overall I just feel like the Emmy’s just keep voting for who is getting hype or high ratings not necessarily the best. The only time I’ve seen this not be the case is with Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad.

  45. Deedee says:

No Eva a Green for Penny Dreadful! Robbed again…

  46. Jeanette says:

SOA set big time records on viewership..and not even a nom…but a bunch of crap.

    • kennedy says:

Seems like Television Academy kind of forgot FX exists. Louie gets love but no SOA, Justified or The Americans. I would have loved to see You’re the Worst get some recognition too.

  47. Unmade_bed says:

    Odenkirk for the win!

  48. serena says:

Such a SHAME about SOA and the Great Charlie Hunnam. Not for nothing – Jax Teller is as iconic now as Don Draper.

Not even a single nom after 8 years of immaculate story-telling & acting.

    • lisa2 says:

Are they really ICONIC.. I don’t know. I think yes to the fans that watched the show.. but I always thought the ratings for both shows were not outstanding throughout their run. Perhaps the lack of nominations shows that these maybe be great shows with outstanding acting; but are not reaching all the people they should.

  49. JessetheTWIT says:

Outlander dealt with some dark, dark stuff but GoT does dark and still gets noms. Outlander’s showrunner did some epically bad pacing for the back half of S1, but there was some masterclass acting by the three leads (Heughan, Balfe, and Menzies), especially in the finale.

  50. NGBoston says:

Since Peter Dinklage absolutely got ROBBED ladt season— to make up for that oversight he should be given it this year.

  51. Shoe_Lover says:

I hope all the mad men nominees win but i feel like January Jones should have been nominated.

On a personal note i am so pleased that Ben Mendelsohn was nominated. he is a top bloke

  52. Madpoe says:

    Vikings!!!!!

To the entire cast and crew of Vikings – I don’t even watch the damn Emmy’s anyways – AHHHmazing job to each and everyone of you, even that cute baby goat in Ragnar’s lap!
    Love THIS show!
