Here are some photos of Charlize Theron at last night’s LA premiere of Dark Places, the adaptation of the Gillian Flynn novel of the same name. This adaptation was Charlize’s baby – she not only stars, she produced it and helped get it made. Which means it’s sort of weird for us to complain about how no one really saw her as Libby Day when we read the book. Still, even though Charlize is not my particular dream-casting choice, I have high hopes that the film will be sort of decent.
For the premiere, Charlize wore this flirty little Dior Resort 2016 dress. I appreciate that she went with a light, summery look, because too many ladies are just looking for something new and they end up in a Fall/Winter collection look in the dead of summer. The dress is quite pretty and it looks nice on her. I also like that she did something different with her hair – the braids are a new look for her. I also love that she showing some grey – this premiere must have come in between dye jobs.
Charlize managed to avoid speaking about Sean Penn and the breakup and I guess we’re all supposed to play along? That won’t last forever, you know. They made the mistake of working together and that film (The Last Face) should be coming out later this year. My guess is that Charlize will talk about what happened with Penn in those interviews.
I’m also including some photos of Sophia Loren and her son Edoardo Ponti, who were there for some unknown reason (seriously, I looked up Ponti’s IMDB and he has no connection to Dark Places). And photos of Christina Hendricks too – Hendricks was cast as Libby Day’s mom, Patty Day, in the flashback scenes in the 1980s. Hendricks is only one year older than Charlize in real life, but I don’t have a problem with this casting – it’s not like Charlize and Christina share scenes together, Patty’s scenes are ALL flashbacks. Christina recently spoke about being cast as Patty Day, and she basically said it happened at the last minute because the original actress dropped out. I sometimes worry that Hollywood doesn’t really know what to do with Christina, but she’s managing to do interesting character work pretty consistently.

I’m sorry but that dress is terrible it’s not just the top that doesn’t fit but every. That dress is giving her some serious saggy boob look.
I think it is horrible too. She is too old to wear that dress. Not that she is too old for fun, short, summer dresses just not that one.
It also makes her look like she has rolls, which she obviously does not.

It is terrible. If Dior doesn’t get rid of Raf soon, the brand may as well rename itself because it’s not Dior anyways. The man’s style just doesn’t fit with Dior’s more feminine line and all efforts to bring together raf and Dior result in disaster. The dress looks worse than HM teen.
That dress is 1000 kinds of wrong, its too short and foo-ffy, the boobs look like sad saggy croissants, and the style is horrible for her. good god woman (Charlize), get it together, you did the right thing, you were strong and courageous- you be proud of yourself. He wasn’t wort it.
For a celebrity who is always flawless, I am actually shocked. The outfit is frumpy and doesn’t flater her chest, waist or legs. For some reason she looks aged as well, with a bored PTA expression. Spread the word, burnt mosquito Penn causes mojo dysfunction.
Oh bugger the clothes for once, they are three gorgeous women.

I don’t like her dress at all! The pattern is ugly, and the fit is poor. Even if it did fit properly I think it would still be unflattering on her.

I saw the movie last week on DirecTV PPV. It was VERY disappointing to say the least.
What! already on PPV? well, that says pretty much all…but since the beginning Charlize made the terrible mistake of casting herself as the lead, when it was obvious she was nothing like the character. Egomaniac movie starts surrounded by yes-people. I wonder if Gillian Flynn allowed this without fighting it.

I have to agree with you. Charlize felt all wrong in that role, but I really enjoyed Christina Hendricks acting.
I watched it as well and was not impressed. Nic Hoult felt off and like he pushed out of he story, and Charlize was just awful. I think Chloe Grace Moretz was the real star of it. She’s so beautiful and acts so well. I would really like Sharp Objects to be done well, I think that’s her strongest piece of work.

Press with her and Sean is going to be SOOOO awkward, unless they are able to become amicable by then and say all the usual niceties. I bet both are praying it’s a clunker and will die a quick death. if it’s up for award consideration?? LOL
I don’t think it will be, so far nether Sean or Charlize have in the same place at the same time. I think that’s how the rest of the promotion is going to go, if she talking about the movie in one place he’ll be in another. I also see Sean talking about the movie and characters as a whole and not the actors playing the part, not to mention Charlize seem to made sure no questions about Sean are ask in any aspect.
Sorry I thought this was the movie they did together.
No one bothered to get the dress fitted. Which is a shame because her hair and make up are on point.

Robin Wright got with Sean just after he beat up Madonna and she stayed with him for 20 years and repeatedly went back to him. Charlize dropped Sean as soon as he crossed the line. Hmmm Nether Charlie’s grew up with an abusive father so she knows firsthand what it’s like but decided to date a known abuser and have him around her child and was engaged to him.

I’m sorry but that dress is simply AWFUL! The fit is ill, the length is just wrong, she looks like she has no waist. And let’s not talk about the armpit vagina. Can believe Charlize is paying stylist to make her look this bad, and it’s not the first time that she wears ill fitting horrible dresses, it’s been a long ride now, even the canary yellow dress at Cannes made her look like she had a beer gut. What’s going on here? Who’s her stylist?
But why are you blaming the stylist? Is the stylist supposed to replace Raf Simons at Dior? His clothes don’t fit even on the catwalk, it’s simply a bad cut, no stylist can fix that. He also manages tomake cheap looking clothes out of the most expensive fabric. JLaw’s last disaster with the flowery top comes to mind. It’s him, not her stylist.
@Mary-Alice I disagree! It usually works like this: Dior sends to the star’s stylist a bunch of dresses that they want the star to choose from. The designer cannot force the star to wear one particular dress.The stylist and the star choose the dress, and if it is ill fitting, it’s her stylist job to tailor it, or suggest her the dress that fits better on her. That’s what happens when a star is attached commercially to a fashion label, they can’t force her to wear one dress in particular but gives her options based on what the label wants to be promoted by the star, usually next season’s dresses. It’s her stylist job to help her choose the best dress for the occasion. And Charlize’s stylist hasn’t been doing her job properly for a long time now.

I don’t know..It looks grey-ish around her forehead, like a bad dye job. The braids look like the ones my daughters make to each other, not a hairstylist job. I liked her hair at Kimmel, though.
I love seeing the grey hair…I have the same and for whatever reason I feel better about my own after seeing celebrity grey!

I really like the dress, but it is doing something weird in the boob area. I know Charlize doesn’t have a reputation for being a very nice person, but at least she effectively expelled Penn when he did whatever scary/sh*tty thing he did.
Her make-up also looks very pretty.

Charlize did press all day and no question about Sean? I’m guessing her publicist put a restriction on it. Sean’s daughter said that he is in South Africa right now working on the movie and making that his life in order to deal with the break up. Charlize is also supposedly joining him soon to do reshoots. Wonder how that will go.

Hate to say it, but could she be carrying Sean Penn’s spawn under those ruffles? Aside from the middle-obscuring dress, the other clues that made my pregnancy radar go off are the grey (not supposed to use hair dye when pregnant) and the weird fit of the dress up top, because your body can change overnight when pregnant (and as far as I know, she hasn’t been pregnant before, so she might not have been expecting that). HOPE I’M WRONG!
