Angelina Jolie’s first ‘By the Sea’ trailer: wait, is this supposed to be campy?

wenn3648866

Yesterday, we got a tip from a Brangeloonie (who will remain nameless) about Jennifer Aniston’s wedding. The tip included a conspiracy theory about how Jennifer expertly planned her wedding to coincide with release of the trailer for Angelina Jolie’s second feature directorial outing, By the Sea. So when we got the later tip about the By the Sea trailer, it all made sense. Jennifer Aniston totally planned all of this!!! Aniston = Thunder Stealer. Obviously.

Anyway, Jolie has been teasing By the Sea all week. She released never-before-seen production photos to People Magazine a few days ago. And now, behold, the first trailer!!

I like that she’s “Angelina Jolie Pitt” professionally now. But why isn’t he “Brad Jolie Pitt”?

CB and I were debating whether this is supposed to be funny in a campy, 1970s-Lifetime sort of way. I’m firmly of the belief that it might end up being sort of funny, just because of the whole vintage-dramz vibe. And it will be funny because of sideburns, close-ups of Jolie breathing and the fact that her character is supposed to be a “dancer.” Come on, how could it NOT be funny? CB thinks that it’s supposed to be taken at face value, and that the film is probably more depressing and angsty than I believe.

What I like: I like the shot of Brad in the bathtub. Come on, that’s kind of hot! I also like the stuff when him hogging the bed and she’s trying to shove him out of bed. What else? I’m kind of digging Brad’s sideburns because he looks so much like vintage Robert Redford. As for the violent scenes… Angelina recently said “I’d be pulling out the parts [of him] that have an aggression toward me or when you’re frustrated with each other—it was very heavy.” See, when I see her slap him, I don’t think “heavy.” I think “foreplay.” She slaps him on camera and then he gives it to her when they get back to their hotel. RIGHT?

  1. GlimmerBunny says:

I think it looks really good, and I’m not usually a big fan of relationship dramas. The song choice is perfect.

    • Greata says:

@GlimmerBunny….I agree, I’m no expert , but I thought that there was a vintage type elegance about it.

      • vauvert says:

Looks good to me too but then again I love Euro films where nothing seems to happen on the surface (no major plot, nothing exploding) – just quiet feelings. And I love the retro vibe and the location. Will definitely see it.

      • FLORC says:

Agree. A subtle story line is tough to pull off, but wonderful if it is. Best movies imo are those. You can’t hide behind scripted lines. You have to sell emotions. Much tougher.

    • Catelina says:

Loved the song. As for the camp element, it’s definitely not a comedy. It’s going to be a melodrama, so expect camp but also a lot of heavy angsty stuff.

    • Shambles says:

Agreed. I’ll see this one, and the song was perfect. Haunting, but in a good way. I’m just not a huge fan of that hair on her. Maybe it’s just because I’m used to seeing dark-haired Angelina, and I’m kind of in love with dark-haired Angelina.

    • phoenix says:

      I loved it!

  2. Franca says:

    It looks awful.

She looks good with bangs. He looks old.

    • V4Real says:

It doesn’t look like anything special. I don’t think Brad looks old, he looks his age. I think Angie looks better with her darker hair.

Now what does that scene of her crying and smoking on the balcony remind me of? Oh yeah, months ago when Brad and Angie were accused of having an argument on the balcony. Perhaps they were rehearsing for that scene.

    • Mrs. Wellen Melon says:

      Truly putrid.

Perfect double feature with Madonna’s version of “Swept Away”.

    • Gigi says:

Yeah, this is exactly the sort of “we are artistes” fair they should have steered away from. It takes a deft hand to pull this off without coming off as pretentious and up your own butt, and they clearly dont have it. If I were them, I would have gone for a modern day dramedy.

      • siri says:

Couldn’t agree more. Critics will have a field day with this. Modern dark&funny might have been the better option,

    • Jib says:

I don’t think it’s supposed to be campy – it looks pretty dark and depressing to me. Sheesh. And I’d be amazed if she did any nude scenes- she’s SO skinny, she’s just disappearing in front of our eyes.

What is this supposed to be about anyway? I didn’t get the idea from the trailer.

      • bravo soldier says:

She just needs to stop thinking she is a director. This self-indulgent sh**t has to stop. Many deserving projects did not get made because she got all the money.

    • chaine says:

this didn’t make me want to see the movie.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

I agree, this looks boring and trite. I would be surprised if it made a dent at the box office.

      • Tarsha says:

LeAnn Stinks, people said that about Unbroken, and it went Box Office gangbusters!

      • siri says:

It looks over dramatic, and trivial.

      • LeAnn Stinks says:

        Tarsha,

I don’t think this will yield the same results. Based on the trailer, this looks quite self indulgent, boring and predictable.

Seems quite a few of the other posters on here, feel the same way that I do.

    • Jenni says:

I thought that Brad is suffering from water&soap phobia. He finally took a bath. Mazel.

    • lola says:

We must have seen totally different trailers. I thought it looked beautiful. Love the cinematography, Angie looks impossibly gorgeous, but then, with that face and profile, how can she not. I thought Brad looked great, very seventies, which, truthfully was not the best decade for men, from the films I’ve seen. Can’t wait to see a longer trailer, this was just a “teaser” trailer.

    • Lippy says:

The bangs make Angie look younger and Brad look older.

  3. Esmom says:

I don’t know. I watched the trailer and it seemed to veer between melodrama and parody. It also didn’t reveal very much so maybe it’s like those cryptic Mad Men previews that seemed so deliberately vague and ambiguous.

    • Liberty says:

@Esmom, this and this and this.

The music was good. I think perhaps the film may be okay, but the trailer needs to be redone. We’re so used to (1) parodies and (2) designer house or perfume films, that this trailer, edited in this manner, with music stronger than the scenes, may be confusing our brain cells.

    • Goats on the Roof says:

You’re right, not much to go on. It looks beautifully shot, and I think the song works well, but all I really got from the trailer is that everybody loves their cigs and staring off into space.

      • Pinky says:

Agreed. The trailer told me nothing about the content or plot. But the shots and color desaturation are lovely. In all, looks brooding, moody, and sloooooow.

    • T.Fanty says:

Holy crap, that looks cheesy and terrible. And I’m saying this the day after I watched Chris Evans’ directorial debut, so in theory, this should look like Gone with the Wind by comparison.

    • doofus says:

I watched it yesterday and was like “that’s it?”

it was like a bad 90’s perfume commercial…I kept expecting someone to start yelling “EGOISTE!”

I know it was just a 1 minute trailer so I’m not going to judge the whole movie by that, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot of artsy shots with lots of melodrama.

    • laura in LA says:

Esmom, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but you said it – Mad Men. It even reminds me of the trip Don and Betty took to Rome…

So I might see it just for the visuals because I haven’t travelled anywhere in years, and Malta looks nice!

Anyway, the film looks like sort of a followup to Mr. & Mrs. Smith, which was maybe the mood they were trying to recapture – why it’s confusing, drama or camp.

    • Lippy says:

Why is Angie wearing so much clothes? This is R rated for nudity, no? If it is just Brad nude that will be good any way. After 3 kids Angie’s body isn’t what it once was.

  4. Kiddo says:

    #kaiser4thetrollwin
    #headswillexplode

  5. lisa2 says:

    aww the SHADE every time

the films is set in the 70’s and it has an appropriate feel.. I Love the trailer and it got me so excited to see them again on the big screen together.. that song is so perfect for the teaser and just flows through.. I also like that it didn’t give everything away and it make you leave with lots of unanswered questions.. exactly what it should do. Lots of talk about it and that should make Universal happy.. So man articles written..

Looks very interesting and I for one will be seeing it no matter what.. Campy.. not in the least.

  6. MsGoblin says:

    My God, she’s stunning.

  7. xboxsucks says:

    It does look interesting

  8. roses says:

Nah JA stole the thunder from Maddox Jolie Pitt this time. They married on his birthday August 5th – it was her bday gift to Maddox – LOL!!! Anyhoo hope the movie is descent the cinematography looks really good.

    • lisa2 says:

Yeah I think it was all about getting back at Maddox.. after all wasn’t he the one that “stole” Brad’s heart first.. then gave it to his mother.. I think that was the narrative..

      kdding.. ( a little anyway)

Everyone is now perfectly paired and happily married.. let’s all say congrats.

    • meme says:

It’s kind of weird to know the birthday of a celeb’s kid.

    • Gru says:

Lol. Does Micheal K know? He has been pushing the Aniston v Maddox rivalry for a decade, the sh*t stirrer that he is.

    • Fallon says:

I know Maddox’s birthday – but only because it’s the same day as mine. He’s the only celebrity child – or celebrity in general, for that matter – whose birthday I know.

      • Lol–I know Ralph Fiennes B-day, because it’s the day before mine. At least I THINK it’s Ralph Fiennes B-day…..it’s one of my favorite male actors….

      • Lucky Charm says:

I know Shiloh’s birthday, because it’s the day after mine. And Angelina’s is the same day as my middle son’s. So many Gemini’s!

  9. MrsBPitt says:

I think it looks more artsy fartsy, than campy! Whatever, I can’t wait to see Brad and Angie together on screen again! I’ll be there, fo sho! lol (gosh, I wish I had her profile. so perfect)

  10. TheOtherMaria says:

I think it looks far from campy and I’m intrigued.

Seems like this going to be an intense drama between a dysfunctional couple, I can dig it.

  11. Nutts says:

    I’m in.

  12. MSat says:

I’m getting strong Jon Voight vibes from Brad in this. Maybe this is the story of Angelina’s parents coming undone?

    • Lippy says:

The French toots as the other woman? Angelina has never gotten over him leaving her mother and still carries the sadness and drama. Wasn’t her mother French? A tribute.

  13. Carmen says:

I dunno… From the trailer it seems like two hours of unrelieved gloom. Sort of like “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolff”. Which was definitely not my kind of movie. Beautiful cinematography, though.

I’m surprised the trailer is out so soon. I thought the release date for the movie is sometime in November?

  14. Maya says:

170000 views and counting already on YouTube for this trailer – the power of Brangelina.

Love this couple and their amazing screen burning chemistry is still their after 10 years and 6 children.

This trailer tells us something happened is the past which Angelina’s character blames Brad’s character for. It also seems they never resolved what ever happened and the void kept getting bigger until they get to this hotel.

Angelina is a brilliant actress and Brad is not only a good actor – he is brilliant producer. Brad producing this movie is what it making me hope that the movie will be good.

  15. funcakes says:

I’m not having a good feeling about this. Hope I’m wrong.

    • Carmen says:

Hard to tell much from a trailer. When the first trailers from World War Z were released, everyone was predicting an epic disaster. The movie itself turned out to be fairly good and was an unqualified success at the box office.

    • Wilma says:

Me neither. It looks pretty, but also has this artsy-fartsy-over-the-top-perfume-commercial vibe. But maybe that’s what Brad’s commercial has done for me. I thought In the land of blood and honey was well directed and I hope this one will be good too, but I’m not sure it was the right project for AJ.

  16. Olive says:

Sorry, but this looks bad. The music OMG awful.
Pitt looks like a stinky pervert with this 70s look. Angie looks ok, extreme fragile plus horrible wig, but ok.
I like the scene on the cliff where the hat covers her face. Reminds me in Grace of Monaco… awful movie but good fashion porn.

  17. oop says:

It looks horrible. The critics are gonna trash it.

  18. BengalCat2000 says:

What was it about the ’70’s and excessive body hair and sloppy fashion? I was born in ’73 and don’t remember a lot, but I do remember my parents clothing and hair choices. This movie reminds me of that in best way.

  19. Anname says:

I feel like we know them as an offscreen couple so well (too much?) – I don’t know if I will be able to get past that and buy into their characters and enter the story.

  20. Calcifer says:

What I don’t get is why this relationship drama had to be set in the 1970’s. It would have been better to just go for a contemporary setting, fewer moustaches and other props to distract from what a film like this should be about (emotions, conflict, disillusion).

    • lisa2 says:

She spoke to this.. because a more modern setting would have brought in too much technology. People don’t talk anymore..they text or email. this way it is all about the characters actually having to interact..

I was on the Ben/Jen thread and the story was Ben was emailing and texting Jennifer.. that was not the case in the 70’s.. people actually had to interact in order to interact. I think that is a good move on her part to make the setting in this time period.. It would be a different drama otherwise..t he couple would be texting or emailing or tweeting their conversations.

      • Calcifer says:

Thanks lisa2, for this information. Still, I don’t know if I see this as a valid argument. If you are a modern day couple in your late thirties to late forties, on the verge of breaking up and staying in a secluded hotel by the sea, would you be communicating with each other by texting? I know I wouldn’t. And using that argument no contemporary relationship drama’s could be filmed (or written into a novel or a play) ever again, and that seems unlikely to me.

    • Tulip Garden says:

Of course, I don’t know why she made that choice but here are two possibilities:
She likes seventies fashion aesthetic. This seems to be true in some of her red carpet looks and jewelry collection as well.
Two, period piece movies are usually viewed with more gravitas by the Academy and I am sure she would like her work to be recognized by them.
Also, like Lisa2 said, Jolie Pitt felt too much technology would be involved modern day. Although, I am with you Calciferol that this shouldn’t be an insurmountable obstacle. Perhaps, it’s a kind of an homage to the period piece photo shoot they did in the beginning of their relationship. The dysfunction and violence does recall that to mind.

  21. Talie says:

    It looks pretty.

  22. Jessica says:

The trailer makes it look like a parody of European art films. Every shot, every lighting choice, every outfit, the entire premise…it’s all such a cliche.

It could actually be enjoyably amusing if watched with that in mind, but I don’t think that’s what Jolie was going for.

    • Artemis says:

I love European art films, maybe that’s why I love this trailer. It doesn’t tell much but the DRAMA? I’m living for it.

I was hoping Jolie would have an accent. Brad’s legs in that tub are WHITE, damn. It might be OTT but I kind of like that sometimes. The film might be totally different, I wonder how they’re going to promote it closer to the premiere.

That first picture for this post is gorgeous btw…

    • meme says:

neither do I. She’s watched too many 70’s French films and thinks she’s an auteur. Very derivative and she looks awful.

    • manta says:

I was thinking the same thing. It looks as if she watched and digested a lot of Claude Sautet’s movie and thought she would revive a Romy Schneider character (lost, sad, in a dramatic relationship). I hope she was going more for homage than parody, the result woul be better with this angle.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

It looks like a parody of French/Italian 70’s movies about the couple. a mix between Godart’s Le Mepris and Claude Sautet’s movie with Romy Schneider

    • Kiddo says:

Maybe there will be explosive violence scenes later in the film, like with John Travolta in a wiglet ponytail, Tarantino-style, and the film will be shot backward and forward.

  23. Saywhatwhen says:

    I cringed.

    Am still cringing.

  24. Manjit says:

Oh dear, this trailer is awful, but I’m hoping it’s deliberate and it’s actually a parody of those, oh so serious, 60’s French dramas. Surely it can’t be as bad as his fragrance ad, can it? This trailer makes the film look like an enormous vanity project but hopefully there’s a sense of humour somewhere in there.

  25. BNA FN says:

I’m having a very good feeling bout this movie. I’m going to see it for sure. I have been waiting 10 years to see them back together in a movie, and November 13 cannot come soon enough.

I see the haters are out in force. Such negative comments after watching one minute and seventeen seconds of a trailer. I love tge Jolie Pitts and will be seeing this movie come opening day.

    • Anne says:

“10 years” – Goodness. Well, good luck to you.

    • Manjit says:

Why are people haters because they aren’t overwhelmed by the one minute seventeen second trailer, that has been released to get people talking about the film? We’re talking about it, we’re just not jizzing all over it.

  26. Jayna says:

Maybe the movie is better than the trailer is. That’s the nicest thing I can say.

  27. Guest says:

Most people on film sites and the web have said this trailer looks great but on CB it’s awful. Haters to the left. Most of you made up your mind even before trailer was played. Won’t be surprised if most people making those comments are from dlisted because if you look at the aniston wedding thread on dlisted majority of the comments are discussing people on CB and how they want to come over here and make negative remarks about the JPs

    • Tarsha says:

Be careful as you will be jumped on, mocked and sneered at for simply saying this even though you may be telling the truth. And it simply goes to negate what was said on that thread about other sites not making comments like that about the JPs and not keeping the triangle going. DListed doesn’t surprise me, as they are as mad as a bucket full of cobras and are basically Female First II. The usual suspects on here will just pretend they never read the part where people on DListed were actively talking about TROLLING JPs on articles about Aniston. Then, 2 or 3 months down the track, we will again have “I have never seen any comments like that”. Sigh. Head – desk.

Edit: Crumpet, apparently, since DLISTED are the ones who were talking about trolling JP supporters on here. So, we can clearly see which side is keeping the triangle going. Yet JP defenders on here will be blamed for that, too. I mean, geez, even now that Aniston has married, they cannot just be happy for her. Oh no. That is too simple. It’s not enough. They cannot just be happy for Aniston. They have to come her to troll and stir JP defenders. Why? ??

      • Aren says:

Very much agreed. I love dlisted and it used to be my only source of celeb gossip, but they are many users that get really nasty towards certain celebs like Jolie and Caitlyn Jenner.
I can confirm every time there’s an Aniston post they mention Celebitchy, often it turns into “The meltdown on CB is going to be amusing”.
        Yesterday was no exception.

    • Crumpet says:

Oh jeeze. Does everything have to be about the triangle? I mean… EVERYTHING??

    • Ennie says:

I wonder why they chose the 70’s. I like many things from that aesthetic, also the implications of the technology that existed or did not exist at the time. Also, the romantic ideal of, as idealistic tourists, or expats, going to a small place out of the beaten path to get “inspiration” to write, paint, etc. and instead find tragedy.
I do not expect big earnings, but I am looking forward to a revival of drama.

    • Olive says:

      hahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahah

    • Carmen says:

I really think they have better things to do than to come onto a J-P friendly web site and make negative comments. IJS. What would be their point?

    • Jib says:

I don’t even know what dlisted is, never been there, but I think this film seems like it’s overly melodramatic, “try too hard.” Might be good, but it’s not a good trailer.

  28. Barbiegirl says:

    No thanks

  29. Kay says:

it reminds me of blue valentine a bit (which was an amazing movie) it has that depressing relationship exploration vibe.

    • manta says:

Blue Valentine was wonderful. I’m still sad (a little hyperbole here) that Michelle Williams didn’t win an Oscar for that one.

  30. strah says:

I think it looks like a murder mystery. Is that what it is? That kind of slow build up, then something goes violent and wrong, then a flash back to before it started or how they cope with whatever happened. This trailer seems to leave a lot of room for interpretation.

  31. db says:

Judging by Angie’s wig, I’m going with camp.

  32. FingerBinger says:

I can’t tell what’s going on. It looks very campy. I’ll watch when it comes out on redbox.

  33. BNA FN says:

Thanks @Guest for your comment. I see some of JA fans have been asking to see this trailer for days. They wanted to see it so they can post negative comments. The Good thing is, most people don’t listen to trolls on the Internet for movie advice, if they did Maleficent would not have made $758,000m.

    • Tulip Garden says:

I don’t know how well this movie will do but the trailer doesn’t excite me. As for Malificent, c’mon it did well because it was a good movie! It was interesting to look at and Jolie’s performance was very good. In fact, she was the only worthwhile character in the whole film.

      • Maya says:

Diaval was a pretty good character as well – I loved the interaction between Maleficent and Diaval.

      • FingerBinger says:

Maleficent also did good business because it’s a well known Disney character.

      • BNA FN says:

I wanted to believe that Jennifer A fans would be over the moon with excitement and happyness about her secret wedding, (that we heard about the next day). I believe they would be so happy they would forget about Brad and Angelina for a week. I know now I’m wrong, nothing will make the JustJen fans happy unless JA get back with Brad Pitt, and that will NEVER
        happen.

I remember the JenHens also giving bad review to Maleficent and saying it would be a bomb at the theatre. By The Sea will be great, can’t wait to see it.

Why are JA fans here and not on her thread celebrating her wedding? Some people are just stuck in 2005.

      • Tarsha says:

BNA FN, the more I actually think about it, the more I feel that this wedding is kind of an anti-climax, like a let-down for Aniston’s fans. I mean, now what do they have to use to defend Aniston’s honor with? They logically have no reason to hate Angelina and Brad any more. So I get the impression they are at sixes and sevens like, ‘oh this is great, yay!’. ‘Hmm ok. What now?’ Hence they are not celebrating Aniston and Theroux’ wedding, they are miserably attacking Angelina and Brad. It’s a let-down for them. I think many, like most of us, never thought they would actually marry and I suspect many still longed for Brad and Jen to get back together. Now Jen has entered into wedlock with another man who is not Brad, they’re ‘wtf? That wasn’t supposed to actually happen’. So, I really sense it’s a great letdown for them and they don’t know how deal or verbalise that sense of letdown. That is my take anyway.

      • Aren says:

@BNA FN, I was honestly surprised when I saw what happened yesterday on Aniston’s wedding post at another site: 600+ comments of nothing but pure hate to Angeline Jolie.
I think Aniston’s fans do feel let down and angry, but also it’s impossible that an Aniston post would’ve gotten so many comments in 2015 if it wasn’t for Angelina and Brad.

Aniston’s (and now Justin’s) career is fueled on them, there’s no way an old Friends actress would’ve gotten so many covers, movies and even a visit to the Oscars without Brangelina’s fame.

But I still hope it backfires somehow and both Jen and Justin fade back into obscurity.

    • Esmom says:

Are you effing kidding me? I don’t see h8rs, only honest commentary about the trailer. When someone makes a film, they’re opening themselves to criticism. And when someone says something that’s not 100% glowing, that doesn’t mean they hate the filmmaker.

      • Tarsha_ says:

Esmom, even if someone stood in front of you yelling abuse then you still would not ‘see’ haters.

  34. ada says:

    I like it.

    • BNA FN says:

@Tarsha, I have a feeling nothing will make the jenhens happy except seeing her and Brad together. They are mean and vindictive as Jen. There is no way Jennifer did not plan, secret wedding, to coincide with with the release of the first trailer of BTS. It’s strange the secret was out the bag the very morning the trailer came out. I never forget JA saying she plays dirty, and this was dirty. I hope I’m wrong but I doubt it. The good thing is, no matter what her fans say about Angelina it never stop her from reaching higher and higher in her life, and doing more to help the less advantaged.

For ten years we have been reading Jen hens body shaming Angelina and in that time, she has given birth to three children and been under the knife with major operations. She is Taking care of six children, husband and all her humanitarian work. I’m thinking JA should be looking fabulous because she only has herself to take care of. When was the last time JA was seen out doing some volunteer work?
Not this year, To my knowledge.

  35. Amy Tennant says:

I still think if AJ and JA ever got together to do something, like even a PSA for a charity or something, that would really break the Internet. Can you imagine? It would be incredible! People would be talking about it for decades. Granted, I can’t see either of them wanting to do it unless they were really desperate for a bump or really committed to whatever charity they were supporting. I don’t think I’d like to spend time with either my partner’s exes or my exes’ currents, even without a possible cheating question. But I would love to see that. If they went out to present together at the Oscars, they wouldn’t even be able to get a word in because the audience would be going insane.

I’m happy for both couples, I think. I remember how sad I was when a friend couple divorced, and then they got with other people, and they both said, “We had two unhappy people, and now we have four happy people, and it’s all good”

    • haileys says:

Angelina works with talented, accomplished people that have integrity, not people that trash her children, do horrible work, and hang with Uncle Terry. Angelina has been breaking the Internet her whole career. Aniston can barely get a mention even with paying MILLIONS a year to PR.

  36. unmade_bed says:

I laughed out loud when Brad yelled “More!,” and she slapped him.

  37. Lucy2 says:

Campy? I got the impression they were going for super serious and dramatic.
It doesn’t look appealing to me, but I’m not really a fan of either of their acting.

    • Anne says:

That’s my impression, too. I have to say I’m disappointed by the trailer. I’ll see it on video out of curiosity, but I’m cringing a bit at this. . .

    • siri says:

It’s a “we are so artistic and deep” trailer, and I can only hope the movie is better than this…

  38. L says:

Looks good. Will have to wait and see. 🙂

  39. Ally.M says:

Well that looks like a barrel of laughs. She looks good (how could she not)…him not so much.

  40. Flim says:

Wow–I see dark emotional thriller. No camp. I hink this will be terrifying, honestly! And it will be more popular in Europe than America.

  41. Paige says:

I love that the trailer didn’t give too much away. I’ll be there with bells on come November 13th. 🙂

  42. AntiSocialButterfly says:

It looks like something I’d watch— when there was nothing else on and I’ve had too much wine, and the boredom is mind numbing.

  43. margie says:

She looks like Michael Jackson in that still of her on the bed, the very bottom photo. That is all.

  44. AnotherJen says:

Good God this looks absolutely horrid.

  45. lolavie says:

I suppose the hotel had no room service. The female guest seems to be starving.

    Angelina – eat something. Please.

  46. Tara says:

I think it looks good. Much better than I expected even. However you can’t tell too much from a trailer. It could either be campy melodrama or an interesting experiment with good drama. I want to see it now after the teaser. Their acting looks amazing.

  47. bns says:

Neither of them can act, so this should be interesting.

    • Tarsha says:

And you can? They are both multimillionaires over and over for people who ‘can’t act’. Sour grapes?

      • Franca says:

Jesus, why are people so invested in these people?

They are (in my opinion!) both very limited actors and wouldn’t have tge careers they have if they looked like Steve Buscemi.

      • bns says:

What does money have to do with acting talent? Lol. And I’m actually Meryl Streep so your argument against me is invalid.

      • Artemis says:

Hmm, so rich actors are talented? Explain Orlando Bloom, Jessica Alba, Keanu Reeves and Arnold Schwarzenegger, people with very limited acting skills managed to make millions from franchises and were offered plenty of other opportunities to branch out. I’m pretty sure the last two actors are even richer than your faves but even I know that the JPs have more talent in their pinky than they have in their whole body (and that’s saying something!).

Seriously, in a town where you can make millions by playing the same character over and over again (hello RDJ!), I wouldn’t say that an ability to act is top priority.

The JPs make money therefore they are able to work in film. If they didn’t have the faces they have, they would not be famous. They would have a career (they’re ambitious people) but not in showbusiness in front of a camera.

      • Tarsha says:

A lot. A person doesn’t get that far with big producers unless they are talented. Also you are as much Meryl Streep as I am the Pope. And I am the wrong religion and well as wrong gender. Streep, now there is someone massively over-rated. And I am not just saying this, I’ve said this about Streep several times on many articles on here over the years. Streep is an example of publicity and pr not talent.

    • siri says:

Agree, they both are not overly talented actors, so this very dramatic looking trailer comes over a bit silly…@Tarsha: If it was for sheer talent, a lot of HW actors wouldn’t be able to make a living out of their craft. Besides that, what’s wrong with simply having an opinion?

    • V4Real says:

LOL … of course bns can’t act, that’s why she’s not an actress.

BTW Hollywood is full of multimillionaires in some folks opinion, can’t act…

    • Jib says:

Tarsha, that you think AJ is talented while Meryl Streep isn’t is so embarrassing its sad. Really? Like someone said above: why are you so invested in these strangers? They don’t know you, they wouldn’t slow their limo down to throw you a sandwich if you were starving to death. Why such idol worship? I’m not trying to be mean, it’s just so odd to me to be so invested in strangers.

  48. MAC says:

I will watch it. It sounded like Johnny Cash?
Usually I do not watch anything before a movie because I do not want to know but I thought the trailer was interesting. I did not see her second director debut but the first one I did enjoy.
Maybe as she gets more experience she will get better at being a director I hope she gets the opportunity

  49. anne_000 says:

Why does she keep going with the worst hair dye? In Salt, in that movie with Depp, and now in this movie. Why is it always one solid color and so artificial looking?

    • lola says:

I’ve almost positive this is a wig, with a seventies hair style. I’m really looking forward to this film, love the fact that the guy singing the song is the same guy that did, “Everybody’s Talking”, the song most associated with ‘Midnight Cowboy’.

  50. Ohlala says:

Who knows, maybe this is a comedy film?? I would love it!

  51. FWiW says:

It looks intriguing so I’m in. Seeing “Angelina Jolie Pitt” was a nice touch.

It does make me go hmmm at Jen marrying at this time. I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt but the timing is too close. Give it up, Jen! Let it go … It’s been years!

    • V4Real says:

I think people are reading too much into this because they want to keep the so called triangle going. I will give Jen the benefit of the doubt. Now if she had gotten married on the day the film is actually released then there might be cause for alarm, but a trailor, I’m not buying it. Now if she announces her pregnancy on the film release date then I think people might be on to something.

      • doofus says:

        it’s SO ridiculous.

based on what we know of this event, it was likely planned for months, and the invitations went out a while back.

HOW on g-d’s green earth would Aniston know, MONTHS AGO, that the trailer for Jolie/Pitt’s new film would be released that same day? especially if, as the fans have said, the release date was pushed back?…

answer: she couldn’t have. some folks want desperately to keep this non-existent feud alive so that it fits the narrative they’ve written for Aniston as the stalker ex who can’t let go.

      • Paige says:

The triangle will never die. I’ve read several comments from people on the internet that believe Brad and Angelina released the BTS trailer to try to outshine Jennifer and Justin’s wedding. They truly believe Brad and Angelina did it on purpose and they want to “hurt” Jen again after all these years. The BTS trailer was never pushed back. It’s right on time for a film being released in November.

      • doofus says:

“I’ve read several comments from people on the internet that believe Brad and Angelina released the BTS trailer to try to outshine Jennifer and Justin’s wedding. They truly believe Brad and Angelina did it on purpose and they want to “hurt” Jen again after all these years.”

and that theory is JUST as ridiculous. the only people who are keeping this triangle alive are the stans on both sides. who are also the ones to quickly accuse “the other side” of keeping it alive. everyone needs to get over it.

also, when I said pushed back, I meant the movie release. I saw a few posters on here say that the actual movie release had been pushed back. if that’s not accurate, I apologize but I only was repeating what I’d read from some fans who I figured would know. regardless of when the movie is going to be/was supposed to be released, I stand by the rest of my comment. I really doubt that Aniston had any idea when the trailer was going to be released and, as someone said, just picked a day that was non-suspect…a Wednesday in early August when most folks are on vacation.

    • L says:

      Yup. 😉

  52. I Choose Me says:

I’m withholding judgment until I actually see the film but I found that trailer . . . underwhelming. Except for the song that is. It’s like Mr. & Mrs Smith, the Prologue. But we’ll see.

  53. hmph says:

Campy? From The camp event!? Surely…ok chill brangieloonies, it was a joke!

  54. Jayna says:

This is, honestly, one of the worst trailers I’ve ever seen after re-watching it.

Of course, I’ve seen great trailers and the movies are bad. The best parts of the movie were in the trailer. So this might be the reverse, great movie, really bad trailer, or at least a decent movie. I don’t know, though. That trailer wasn’t intriguing, wasn’t anything. But I do like the idea of it being set in the 1970s.

  55. Angie says:

I’m just kind of over them and they’re “art” & undying love; I’m shocked they’ve never received major backlash for their LeAnn Rimes/Eddie Cibrian-esque relationship.
Angelina is no Clint Eastwood, she just has big bucks to finance her own films. It’s unfortunate that other directors who’ve studied their art and want to showcase their talent barely get opportunities because these big name people get hired by all the large studios.

    • Tarsha says:

I don’t get where you’re coming from here. I think you meant to put this on the Honeymoon article where Aniston/Theroux and Rimes/Eddie link has been mentioned a couple of times.

      • Emma - The JP Lover says:

        @Tarsha …

Nope, this is the “She didn’t go to film school to study film, so how can she direct?!” poster.

    • L says:

Got a bridge to sell you. 😀

      • Angie says:

Lol! I’m not a hater or anything, these people don’t pay my bills so it’s no sweat. I’m just saying there are other directors that deserve a moment.

    • Neil says:

Personally I think a major part of her problem is that Clint Eastwood hasn’t made a decent film since Flags of Our Father and yet seems to be a major influence of hers. I wish she would “borrow” from more relevant directors like Fincher (who happens to be a family friend) and stop borrowing from grandpa.

  56. raincoaster says:

    That WIG is certainly tragic.

That said, I might watch it, simply because for whatever reason I’m really feeling the South of France lately and I want to get something moody. But I might just re-watch Evil Under the Sun with Peter Ustinov; it’s hilariously campy, with Diana Rigg and Maggie Smith trying to out-vamp one another.

  57. L says:

I think A & B will surprise us with this movie..in a good way of course but that’s jmo. 😉

  58. T says:

comedy?!!? she doesn’t seem like she has much sense of humor and he’s too dumb to know what funny is. as Michael K says. . .looks like this is their eyes wide shut – ala Curise/Kidman.

  59. Emma - The JP Lover says:

    @Kaiser …

By everything I’ve read, Angie’s character is supposed to be a ‘retired’ ballet dancer (their career is dramatically short), which would go far to explain some of her 1970’s Indie-Frenchish Art House angst as well (that fact that she can no longer do what she loves and isn’t loved by her man). 🙂

  60. Crystal says:

I think he trailer looks great- I look forward to watching it!

Here’s a conspiracy theory for you… ANGELINA AND BRAD tried to steal Jen’s Thunder on her wedding day by releasing the trailer the same day! Maybe Jen called Brad to give him a heads up about her big day and they decided to release the trailer on the same day… I kid.

Angelina is beyond stunning in that still. Wow.

  61. tracking says:

Do you think she ever goes to a comedy and laughs her @ss off? She just seems so into darkness and pain (third movie now in that vein).

  62. Keaton says:

It appeals to me. But I like emotionally disturbing indie films for some twisted reason. lol That’s not everyone’s cup of tea though so I’m not sure how big a hit it will be. Regardless I’ll definitely watch it when it comes out.
BTW I am NOT an Brangeloonie. I am an AJ fan though.

  63. Nymeria says:

Y’know, I might be totally out in left field here. But I’ve been getting the feeling ever since their wedding that Angelina is trying really hard to keep Brad, that he’s not as into the relationship anymore. I can’t quite put my finger on why I get that impression, but to me, it’s pretty strong. I think that if they split up, it’ll be Brad who initiates it. Again, I could be totally off here.

    • BNA FN says:

I believe you have been “getting the feeling ever since the wedding…”, I bet you have been getting this feeling for 10 years now. Don’t you think it’s time to let those feelings go. Why don’t you get the feeling that Jen found her true love, isn’t that a good feeling to get and leave Brad and Angelina alone.

    • Lotta says:

The feeling I get is very opposite. They are going on with their life and kids just like before. When you have six kids everything isn’t drinks and Bora Bora, sometimes is just a normal family day (which is the best kind of days according to me).

    • Aubrey says:

She seems somewhat nieve like yes he could be not interested anymore and she wouldn’t know.

    • siri says:

I do understand where you are coming from. I could think of Brad having to “work harder” to keep invested. In HER that is, not in his kids, he clearly adores them. I think he loves the family part the most. But I also think he is “sunnier” as a person, with a good sense of humor, and fun-loving.

  64. Lotta says:

I think it looks interesting, but I’m swedish so I like a good angst movie.

  65. Vanessa says:

It looks like a Lifetime movie.

  66. lola says:

I thought the trailer looked great. Angie is impossibly beautiful, that face, what can you say.

  67. Aubrey says:

I can’t get enough! I’ve read every comment before mine and it does make me think that Jolie did not have to go 70’s; she makes weird choices sometimes and I’ve always gotten the feeling that she does not watch a lot of movies and therefor makes almost amateur choices. Not a perfect day!

  68. Ari says:

I love these two. to death. but this is a complete vanity project. with that said I will still see it and most likely love it.

  69. neer says:

I know this is from another site Lainey BUT this is interesting…

….Anyway, we’re now finding out more information about the “secret” wedding. Is it really a secret when the world finds out, like, 6 hours later? Kerry Washington was married for weeks before the press got hold of it. That’s a secret. Scarjo married Romain Dauriac two months before the media found out. Also a secret. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is apparently married – did you know that? And, of course, Brange’s wedding was totally secret. Because it happened and they were the ones to tell us about it, confirming to the Associated Press five days later when no one was even smelling it on them….

    • Lucky Charm says:

I think Brad and Angelina were actually married in April or May, but just had the family ceremony in France in August. I’m pretty sure they had already been married a few months before we all heard about their wedding in France.

      • BNA FN says:

I believe the first wedding was in April, 2014. I remember in April ’14 Angelina referred to Brad saying, “I have a great husband in Brad”. In a print interview. Another thing, if I’m not mistaken, they did get engaged in April, 2012. And they were first seen as a couple in April, 2005.

  70. neer says:

Wow. I’ve seen the BTS trailer many times already ever since I watched it. I was speechless the first time. It is very seldom that I watch a trailer of a certain movie many times but with BTS, I keep on replaying it over & over again. Their CHEMISTRY is just enticing. Can’t help it. The trailer is all over the net & really is making great news despite the news about the wedding of some celebrities. When AJBP had their surprise wedding which the public only knew few days later, the interest was just overwhelming and the general public was very happy that finally they got tied formally. There was a feeling of excitement & happiness among the people. AJBP wedding is incomparable to any celebrities.Though it was just simple, it was unique & had guests that really mattered.

  71. neer says:

AJ & BP is one of the very few couples to have EXTREMELY SEXUAL CHEMISTRY even if they’re just beside each other lying in bed or just talking or simply doing nothing but they’re in a scene together…. or just even in real life…simply being together, their chemistry is out of this world.

So AJ is really using Angelina Jolie Pitt professionally and otherwise. Reading her name appeared as such in the trailer just makes me smile.

She is really a PITT until the rest of her life coz they intend to grow old together even if their children had their respective families in the future.

I really thought she will just be an AJP in her humanitarian work or any activities outside showbiz work. Now, it includes her career or professional name. So, she is AJP in whatever she does…. and I know BP is happy & proud that his wife prefers to carry his name despite that she’s a very well-known personality as well. It really gives us a glimpse of their relationship somehow. Certainly, Bill & Jane (Brad’s parents) are happy as well.

    • BNA FN says:

@Neer, did you get a MAMS feel from this trailer? I have a feeling there will be lots of sexual energy, fighting, making up sex, lol. As a fan of Brad and Angelina I hope we see some of that chemistry.

  72. Shaz says:

    Campy cult film, coming up

  73. kanyekardashian says:

I don’t know what everyone else is seeing that I’m not seeing in that trailer. It looks unbelievably boring, kind of like what I think they might be like in real life – beautiful boring people. I think this movie is an excuse for them to smoke all they want without the kids around.

  74. Dinah says:

My god, he is the only one who knows her secrets.
He is left alone, strangled mute by speechlessness and silence.
Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks could have narrated this so beautifully, it would have been without shame.

  75. Mispronounced Name Dropper says:

Hopefully this will atone for Mr and Mrs Smith. The set design, costume and atmosphere look compelling but it’ll all hinge on the script.

  76. neer says:

“BNA FN @Neer, did you get a MAMS feel from this trailer? I have a feeling there will be lots of sexual energy, fighting, making up sex, lol. As a fan of Brad and Angelina I hope we see some of that chemistry. A little bit in terms of CHEMISTRY & of course as what you stated the ‘sexual energy, fighting, making up sex’.”

Their presence on screen (or otherwise) is always magic. Not every human being has that effect. It’s either you have it or you don’t — the “X” factor. Very few people are gifted with the natural appeal that AJBP have. Whether you like them or not BUT you can’t deny they have it, together or individually. No matter how much other celebrities try to exude that charisma, appeal or whatever you call it. It is never forced to have it. You can’t practice, act & learn it. They are just blessed to have.

  77. Paige says:

It’s more like a teaser. It doesn’t give away anything. I hope they release a longer trailer soon.

  78. neer says:

I just want to repost this wonderful quote by ANTHONY HOPKINS who once said of Angie….

“Sex appeal, the power of magnetism, star quality is something that can’t be bought or acquired or cultivated. It’s something they’re born with, and Angelina has it in abundance.”

    • Pondering thoughts says:

      @ neer

I agree. And I would like to add a suspicion: Jolie developed it. Because: if you look at pictures of her as a teen or as a very young actress then her star quality wasn’t quite the way it is now.

  79. Pondering thoughts says:

Not exiting enough for me. I am not a sucker for beautiful elegant pictures in a movie if there seems to be no other content than that. Also I don’t like the trailer because all I get is that there is a couple in a beautiful environment and they have some kind of relationship trouble. That is not enough for me to drag me into a cinema.

  80. elisha says:

I didn’t believe you, but then I watched the trailer and it looks RIDICULOUSLY campy and…ridiculous.

I can’t stand these two greasy sleazebags (has nothing to do with Maniston, don’t like her either, and actually these two deserve each other), so thanks for that nasty mental image of him giving it to her *dry heaves*.

  81. FAM says:

I am not sure how big a hit it will be. Regardless I’ll definitely watch it when it comes out.
After release you can watch it at this link: http://www.freeallmovies.com/watch-by-the-sea-2015-online/
