Angie Harmon claims she was passed up for jobs because she’s Republican

latisse launch 2 270309

For some reason Fox has done a two-part interview with actress Angie Harmon on her Republican views. And her frustration with the Democrats – and how she thinks people label her a racist when she speaks out against President Obama. In the second part of the interview (because everyone’s so fascinated with Angie Harmon that Fox deems it necessary to break up the excitement so we can contain ourselves), she complains about how hard it is to be a Republican in Hollywood, and admits she’s probably lost some jobs due to her politics.

Harmon also admitted that she’s probably (unknowingly) lost jobs over her political views, and is pretty disillusioned over why so many Americans are not open to freedom of opinion.

“It’s not like anyone has come up to my face and been like ‘I’m not hiring you because you’re a Republican!’ But the media is so liberal and I get it, but I’m just confused on where we lost the respect for our fellow Americans. Not all of us are supposed to believe the same things and think the same way,” she added. “I think the difference between the parties is, with the Democrats you can sit down with them and have a 15 minute conversation and if you’re not believing everything they say and buying into what they’re selling you, it is like you’re some dumb hick who doesn’t deserve to live here anymore. But with the Republicans, it is like okay I want to know what you know, you want to know what I know, okay great lets go have a beer after work, we’re still friends. I’m just confused as to where we lost that in America because it is everyone’s God-given right to think the way they think and that’s fine. That’s why our ancestors came here to America, to believe what they want, pray how they want and follow a religion with whoever they want.”

And in the Democratic-driven heat of Hollywood, Ms. Harmon has definitely taken a risk in voicing her views.

“Look we haven’t been shot yet! We’re still alive! We’ve said the word “Republican” like four times and we’re still alive! Can you believe it?” Harmon joked.

[From Fox News’ Pop Tarts]

Most people think their side is willing to hear the other out, but believes the other side is not willing to hear them out. Angie feels Republicans will hear Democrats out but they won’t return the favor because that’s the side she’s on. I feel Democrats will hear Republicans out but they won’t do the same because that’s the side I’m on. We feel that way because the other side doesn’t agree with us. And it’s an issue both conservatives and liberals deal with; it’s not like Republicans are inherently tolerant and open-minded towards differing points of view while Democrats are not.

Angie’s probably been passed up for jobs because she’s a has been and has to bring up politics to get attention. That’s the only way the press pays attention to her anymore – when was the last time you heard a thing about her being in a movie or on television? The last show she was in was “Women’s Murder Club,” in 2007 and that was cancelled after 13 episodes. Prior to that, she had bit parts here and there but nothing significant since she left “Law & Order” in 2001. This strikes me as nothing more than an attempt to whine and get attention. Of course, I’m willing to grab a beer with Angie after work and hear her out if that’s what she wants.

Here’s Angie Harmon at the launch of ‘Latisse’ in Los Angeles on Sunday. Images thanks to WENN .

I really used to like her but she is pulling at strings here just to get attention. I never realized what a famewhore she is.

  2. Annie says:

Or she’s been passed up on jobs because she’s not a very good actress.

She’s not versatile and hearing all this, she strikes me as whiny too. Not exactly someone I’d want on set.

I really doubt she’s not getting jobs because of her political views. Seems to me that she’s just trying to bank on people’s renewed interest in politics by making sure people remembers she exists.

  3. neelyo says:

If it was before the election I could understand this interview happening, but now, I don’t get it. She’s not promoting a movie or anything, is she? I wonder if she approached them or vice versa.

  4. Sauronsarmy says:

Oh God. Has it ever occurred to her or any other dumbass in Hollywood (I’m lookin at you Hohan), that maybe just maybe, its beacuse your a shit actress? No, of course not their EGO won’t let them.

  5. Kylie says:

Annie, I completely agree with you.

In addition to that, if any person in the public eye wants to be outspoken about their political views they have to understand that – yes, they may be passed over for that very reason. If you want to talk about such things, you have to be prepared that not everyone is going to agree with you.

  6. Sauronsarmy says:

Also if it was hard for her to get jobs maybe she should’ve kept her mouth SHUT. Stop talking about your politics. Yeah now shes really going to get a job, maybe as anchor for faux news.

  7. Mairead says:

to be honest; she’s not the first Republican actor to say being conservative has counted against them in Hollywood. Dirk Benedict is one example – and come on, what wouldn’t benefit from The Face Man? 😆

  8. waaaahh says:

the interview was done by fox”republican loving” news b/c she is a republican, not b/c she is a good actress or even relevant.

she should check her ego and realize she just isn’t any good.

  9. Rosanna says:

Hollywood is dominated by Democrats, that’s a fact. I don’t think it’s incidental… it could be if the percentage were something like 60 to 40, but 90 to 10 is called self-selection 😉

  10. geronimo says:

Angie Harmon has made me realise that it’s possible, in the space of 2 days, to go from not knowing who someone is to hating them with a raging passion.
This woman, despite what she might think, or how Fox may try and portray her, does not represent what most thinking, reasonable, open-minded people would recognise as the thinking, reasonable, open-minded right. But that’s Fox for you, always pushing the stereotypes. A confederacy of dunces.

  11. Come Sta... says:

    Ditto Geronimo!

  12. Eileen Yover says:

Dude-she is completely off the chain. She wasn’t getting good gigs when the Republican’s were in the seat either. I worked for a sports marketing company in Dallas and her husband was one of our clients. She had her mail sent to our office because of the “privacy issue” and we were all wondering besides all the other clients we had: Scotty Pipen, Tim Hardaway, Tony Hawk…. why she and Jason Seahorn were in the spotlight. Not a good desicion to send your mail to a bunch of young bratty sport agents. And she was a snot when she picked it up.
Oh and if this was the case in the US Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins would NEVER get s job considering they are so out spoken in their political views.

  13. TaylorB says:

Considering that some of the biggest box office draws ever like Clint Eastwood, Arnold, Sly, Bruce Willis, ‘The Rock’, not to mention folks who are small screen stars like Kelsey Grammer and Patricia Heaton are Republicans, her theory doesn’t really hold water.

I suspect that her limited acting range is more to blame for not getting the roles than her politics.

  14. Lem says:

I haven’t seen her in anything in YEARS. I automatically read that interview in her voice (in my head) There is only so much of that voice you can take, even when it’s imaginary in your head

  15. ToddRH says:

    Good, serves her right.

  16. Because I Say So says:

Yeah, I used to like her, because she seemed down to earth, despite her obvious conservative bent. Now I am so disappointed in her “logic” that I no longer have a girl-crush on her. She never impressed me as a wonderful actress, it was more about her presence and the fact that she wasn’t blond/blue-eyed/big breasted.

Poor Angie. A victim of her own conspiracy

  17. Autumm Leaves says:

She needs to have a tall glass of STFU! Another faux controversy to jump start her lagging career. All I hear from Republicans lately are whine, whine, whine in order to get what they want now they’re in the minority. She’s needs to take a page out of that Repub book and PULL HERSELF UP FROM THE BOOTSTRAPS and stop BEGGING FOR A HANDOUT like they’ve been telling others to do for years!

Angie has worked with one of the most LIBERAL ACTORS ON TV, Sam Waterson, FOR YEARS!!! So spare me the victimhood mentality. On her worst day financially, she’s still doing better than most of us.

  18. ChristinaT says:

i’m a democrat and i work on a college campus but i thank god that i am… because young adults can be brutal with their liberalism nowadays… and though i’m not a liberal democrat, i know when to shut up when there are arguments with one because if you don’t believe in all their conspiracy theories and doomsday rhetoric, then you’re some kind of “fool”, blind or stupid and unaware of the truth… it gets old…

  19. anon says:

Her saying that she doesnt get jobs because she is a republican is kind of analogous to her complaint that ppl assumed she was a racist because she criticised obama. She’s crying ‘partisan discrimination’ like some ppl cry ‘racism’ when it suits them. So… yeah.

  20. bros says:

hahahah autumn, thats hilarious. she should indeed show a little ingenuity, entrepreneurial spirit, start a small business and pull herself up by the bootstraps, and stop whining like a democrat and acting like a welfare mom begging for handouts, blaming others for her own plight in life and taking responsibility for her own circumstances. this is conduct unbecoming of a republican!

  21. J-Lin says:

As an actress, she is stiff as a board. Daffy Duck has more dramatic skills than this broad.

And I don’t really remember hearing she was Republican until now, so unless you advertise it, most people won’t know it. I have never been on an interview and asked my political persuasion.

But you can spot a Republican a mile away. These days they speak in hushed tones to other Republicans (because they don’t want to seem racists for criticizing Barack) and can’t say President Obama without the throw-up face. They are the first to say they aren’t racist, and they know a gay person (which their church is praying for every day). They are pretty easy to spot.

  22. truth-SF says:

As an independant, I don’t have any problem with liberals or democrats per-say, everyone is entitled to what they believe and how the feel about things, I do have a problem with someone coming off as extremely judgemental and opininated towards other’s views and belief. And I feel that alot of famous republicans comes off as being just that, like O’Riley, Jon Voight, Angie Harmon, Elizabitch Hasselcrack, Rush Limbaugh, and of course, the one and only, Ann “can’t do no wrong” Coulter!!!

  23. poopoo says:

    Wow
I think she proved her point after reading what some of you have said. Are your really so blind?

  24. daisyfly says:

Perhaps she doesn’t realize that when her only notable acting job consisted of playing second fiddle to Sam Waterston, she’s not exactly going to be getting job offers left and right.

The only actress to have ever moved on from that Assistant DA role she played was Jill Hennessey, and that was because she was moving on to another show. Why did Angie leave again? Oh, yeah, to have a family. That seems to be the kiss of death for most female television actresses and NOT their political affiliation.

  25. Mel says:

Wah!I hear that people just love to hire whiney accusatory actresses. She just needs someone to blame for her career failure, because it can’t be HER fault. She couldn’t possibly be a mediocre at best actress! Side note, I never knew she was a republican until she started making a fuss about it recently.

  26. Trillion says:

Mairead- your comment is esp. hilarious to me because I’m a HUGE Battlestar Gallactica fan. (the good one, not the craptacular old one) I had to laugh when Dirk Benedict went on a verbal rampage against his old character, Starbuck, being cast as a kick-ass female. In your face, sexist has- been! Regarding Harmon’s claim, Shannon Doherty said the exact same thing a few years ago. Nope, nobody bought it that time either… Next thing you know Victoria Jackson will claim no studios will support her superb comedic skills because she compares B.O. to Fidel Castro. (no, I’m not making that up)

  27. lisa says:

She has lots my respect. Some people have no judgment before they speak whatsoever.

  28. lisa says:

    “lost” i should say!

  29. Barb says:

I’m sure she has been “passed up” for many roles she went after, but it has more to do with her being sanctimonious and preachy than with specifically what her politics are. Not to mention, she’s not a particularly good actress, AND she is well known for being difficult to work with. She tells lighting directors how to light her, orders makeup people around as if they are working in the cosmetics department at Target, and just generally doesn’t behave nicely. For some reason she sees herself as some kind of Hollywood Royalty, which is just bizarre, she has nothing on her resume to back that up, but i guess marrying a wealthy football player and living in a huge house with a staff made her feel she was on a par with the actors and actresses who earned their money by working in the business. She’s NOT well liked in the industry, and there are plenty of republicans who ARE, so she needs to stop beating that horse. It’s dead, along with Elizabeth Hasslebeck’s and Ann Coulter’s. Wake up ladies – it’s not your political beliefs that make people dislike you, it’s just YOU.

    • Col says:

      Barb,

Have you have worked with her directly to post the comments about her being difficult to work with and treating other co-workers like they are beneath her.

  30. Gymo says:

That’s what happens when you become a right-wing nut, you become paranoid.
    She must really be desperate.
    PART ONE= race-bait
PART TWO= Complain the space aliens are out to get her
    next PART THREE= Enter rehab.

  31. j. ferber says:

Oh, please, the Dixie Chicks voiced criticism of George Bush and took a big hit to their career for years. People boycotted them and condemned them. And they criticized a REPUBLICAN. She only wishes she were important enough for people to care what she believes. Also, that cleft chin of hers is her most prominent feature.

  32. Zoe (The Other One) says:

Who is this woman and when will she rejoin the unemployment queue she clearly belongs in?

Perhaps all the acting work for ‘irrelevant has-been that no- one has any interest in’ is going to LiLo these days?

  33. hmm says:

It seems to me that over the past 7 or 8 years the only people punished for saying something political were in fact people speaking up against Republicans: Whoopi lost her sponsorship for making a joke, the Dixie Chicks were practically lynched for their anti-Bush comments, and Bill Maher lost his show following his politically incorrect comments after 9/11 (Does anyone remember the Oscars from 2002 on when people were afraid of making political statements?)

But notice the game she is playing. She doesn’t say that she definitively lost opportunities, she assumes that she has; and even with the Obama comment, she never said that anyone called her a racist. She is playing a game of semantics and is trying to get attention and it worked. I don’t mind that she’s a Republican, I mind that she is an idiot.

  34. Hieronymus Grex says:

Yeah, Republicans are the Jews of the 21st century, soooo very persecuted. Someone fit her with a yellow star.

    Not.

Anyone who believes her drivel I have a bridge in NYC to sell you.

  35. Phat girl says:

What was wrong with my original comment that it would not be posted? Is it because you thought I was a repubican?

  36. Hieronymus Grex says:

You must have set off the word filter Phat Girl, give CB a nudge to see it posted.

  37. pfft says:

What a pathetic whiner! No one cares what her politics are and being a Republican certainly never hurt her fellow Law & Order alum Fred Thompson, former Republican U.S. Senator from Tennessee. More than anything, she has suffered from being a marginal actress and having what seems like one ginormous chip on her shoulder.

  38. L says:

You know its funny. Always complaining about being discriminated against by the liberals, but I don’t hear any liberal actresses blaming the republicans when they don’t get a job.

Here’s an idea… keep your political thoughts to yourself????

  39. L says:

liberals? republicans? that’s not the same thing is it?
LOL I don’t know these things.

  40. me says:

As a former aspiring actor who grew up in L.A. I can say that it is very difficult to attain the kind of success Angie Harmon has achieved. It is very difficult to book a national commercial, let alone become a contract regular on one of the biggest hits in television history. If Hollywood is so against Republicans why has she been allowed any success? the producers of her show could have walked out on Santa Monica blvd and found any number of pretty brunette, democrat’s to play that role. I don’t feel sorry for her, or any other Republican Actors. they should all stop whining. Hollywood only cares about green, not blue or red.

  41. me says:

Fox news ran this irrelevant story on Angie Harmon for the same reason they are still running constant stories on Sarah Palin(Gretta Van Susteran. Fox News only cares about furthering the Right Wing Republican agenda.

  42. Shannon says:

She’ll continue to lose jobs because I just forgot why I liked her. She should have kept her mouth shut.

  43. irl says:

me has it exactly right. . .it’s so eaactly right it’s worth repeating. . .
Fox news ran this irrelevant story on Angie Harmon for the same reason they are still running constant stories on Sarah Palin(Gretta Van Susteran)
Fox News only cares about furthering the Right Wing Republican agenda.

They are grasping onto any insignificant person like, Angie, that they can.

And dems don’t care to talk to Reps and exchange ideers for a few reasons. One is we get sick of talking to such closed minded and judgmental people who try to force their so called morals on others. It’s like ramming your head against brick walls. Besides we’ve heard and seen enuf in the last 8 years.

  44. poopoo says:

And all the other news stations push liberal agenda’s/ So I guess it is good to have one right wing station. It is diversity that made this country a great place. You all realize that right? I have a feeling the brain washing has been successful. I don;t think any of you see the irony in your hatred. I don’t think you can see how you are so backing up everything she says by your anger and intolerance. Something tells me you won’t see it that way. It is ok to have opinions that differ from yours. I mean even if this isn’t about ANgelina

  45. neelyo says:

Add Janeane Garofalo to the list of people whose careers were hurt by taking a stand during the Bush years.

And I believe Ms. Harmon was shilling Neutrogena during that time.

  46. Bob says:

“And dems don’t care to talk to Reps and exchange ideers for a few reasons. One is we get sick of talking to such closed minded and judgmental people who try to force their so called morals on others. It’s like ramming your head against brick walls. Besides we’ve heard and seen enuf in the last 8 years.”

Sound like you’re the very definition of close-minded and judgemental.

    LOL!

  47. Autumm Leaves says:

Bros, your attempt at snark is lame. Either way, Angie is a one dimensional actor who isn’t in demand. Those are the brakes. Also, no one knew that she was a Republican until she made it known in order to generated the faux controversy about Obama and being called a “racist”. GMAFB!!!

Harmon acts likes she’s the Meryl Streep of network tv. No Angie, you aren’t.

Republican actors who are still working in liberal hollywood and haven’t been blacklisted for being Republicans.

    And we’re done.

  48. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Wow, she’s really desperate isn’t she? What a huge whiner. The only thing I’ve ever seen her do is stare off into space with those wonk eyes and rattle off monotone lines on Law & Order. Am I missing anything?

Who the hell cares if she’s a Republican? Seems she’s a crappy actress. Pffft. I have a friend who went to high school with her (Highland Park High School, Dallas) and she’s apparently always been a big whiner who does NOT like not being in the spotlight.

  49. Kat says:

Angie, you’re not losing roles because you’re a Republican. You’re losing roles because you’re a mouthy, moronic famewhore.

  50. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

irl: I’m a Democrat living in Texas and I don’t mind talking to Republicans. As long as they keep their weirdo, paranoid, hateful fantasies to themselves. As long as we can stick to normal everyday subjects and they don’t start yelling that Obama is a MUSLIN or the ANTI-CHRIST! (and even better, throw some racist comment in there), then we’re alright. The minute they start the Crazy Crap, though, the convo is over.

Hey Bob, that’s just the way it is, guy. There’s no law saying I have to listen to someone’s crazy-ass ignorant rantings. Life’s too short for that.

    Time for a margarita!

  51. Michele says:

    Wow ! All democrats I see……
    I hear you
    Angie……

  52. K-Ci says:

Michele, are you unemployed too? If so, you have the Bush years to thank for it. And on behalf of all those who DIDN’T vote for that moron, you’re getting what you deserve. You and Angie deserve to to feel the heat.

  53. sassy says:

liberal democrats are actually the MOST INTOLERANT of the bunch. if ur not up to their liberal leanings, you’re out of the picture. only one good word describes liberals : hypocrites.

  54. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Uh sassy, I have LOADS of Republican friends, co-workers and family members. So how do I cut people out of the picture if they’re not up to my liberal leanings? People are people, not their political affiliation. Think about it.

    Signed,
    A Liberal

  55. Aspen says:

I have never made a “vomit face” when discussing our president. I have never “screamed” anything in a political discussion, and I certainly haven’t called President Obama a Muslim or the Anti-Christ. My eyes don’t pop out of my head when I listen to what I perceive to be stupidity from the left. I don’t ally myself with shock jocks on the right like Coulter or Limbaugh, and I laugh at jokers like Michael Moore and Al Franken on your side instead of going apoplectic with rage at the very mention of their name.

I do not attack the personal lives of those on the left, unlike the perverse and just really juvenile things I’ve seen the left say about Sarah Palin, John McCain, and the Bush family.

So…you know? Grow up. Look in the mirror. Climb down off your little hate box and re-enter the dialogue.

  56. Aspen says:

If it makes you feel better to go on believing that everyone in the world who disagrees with you is a bad person? You have a right to stay on that course. It doesn’t mean you’re correct in your assessment, however, and you’ll never evolve or learn anything that way.

Two-dimensional people who’ve lost their ability to observe, think, and control their emotional impulses aren’t really living life to the fullest, in my opinion.

  57. Aspen says:

lol…so like I said to someone yesterday…just boycott Law & Order. That’ll teach the bitch.

  58. HashBrowns says:

So the few Republicans are attacking the 4 of 5 comments out of 57 that say they will boycott Law and Order or “hate” Angie Harmon (although I don’t think I actually saw the word hate anywhere) and assume that ALL of us are like that.

I know Republicans and I live in Berkeley. I’ve been friends with a guy since kindergarten who is a Republican and was the only one who “voted” (we had mock elections) Republican in my elementary school class (everyone else i.e. about 300 students voted for Clinton). You know why we’re still friends? Because neither of us are extremists.

I don’t like extremist Republicans as much as Republicans don’t like extremist Democrats. Extremist liberals hate extremist conservatives. Please take a second to put stuff into perspective.

Most of the people who posted here basically said that Angie Harmon isn’t getting jobs because she’s a bad actress and not because of her political affiliation. And yet the few Republicans who pop in decide to attack the few extremists who say they’ll boycott Law and Order. And you wonder why moderates like myself don’t want to bother with you.

  59. anastasiabeaverhausen says:

Aspen, are you talking to yourself or what?

  60. ms adamantia claus says:

She’s a one trick pony in terms of acting and expression, jut out her MASSIVE chin and talk thru clenched teeth and the other expression is raise one eyebrow, jut out her MASSIVE chin and PINCH her already very narrow nostrils to illustrate something it was never really clear to me, when she was in scenes with the other REAL actors her lack of range and leaden delivery slowed down the pace. If you notice on Law & Order after a while she’s not really getting alot of scenes and never got her own storyline line the Alex Cabot character or the other female ADAs that starred on the show.
That’s because they were ACTORS not models with a limited range. Its like the latest ADA she’s GORGEOUS but she doesnt get to do much and pretty much looked scared the first season and I dont think that was in character. But at least SHE”S improving. Harmon never really got any better.
So I guess once again I’m saying that as an actress she’s so pretty.

  61. Chris C says:

Personally if I was looking for an actor/actress I would look at their acting ability and other applicable traits that apply to the acting job in question. Unfortunately, I would have to weigh in their personal life too. Not to check if they are of a politic view but whether they take openly controversial stands or do stupid things in public (Lindsay Lohan type) which may affect the ratings of my show. In Angie’s case I would say this to her, “Sorry, Angie, I think you would be great for this part but you are too vocal about your political views whatever they may be. It would be unfair to the other actors if our show lost ratings due to your comments to the news media alienating fans. I can’t take the risk.”

  62. Hieronymus Grex says:

liberal democrats are actually the MOST INTOLERANT of the bunch.

I tried to explain that to the prisoners inside Guantanamo Bay being held without trial or legal recourse, but I couldn’t get past the razor wire.

  63. Ellen Smith says:

She had her 5 minutes of fame and now it’s over. This is a lame attempt to get back in the media spotlight. Perhaps she’s getting tired of reproducing and coming up short (on a son) for her jock husband.

  64. TaylorB says:

Trillion said: “Regarding Harmon’s claim, Shannon Doherty said the exact same thing a few years ago.”

Ok, now that is just funny. She thinks it is her political leanings that have black listed her??? It couldn’t possibly be her foul temper, diva behaviour, the sense of entitlement, and the fact that every one she worked with carried a cross and wore garlic about their necks when they had to cross her path. That woman has been (no pun intended) fired more times than Rambos gun, and I will bet that the fact she is/was a republican had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Oh, and as for the people who say Mrs Palin was ‘picked on’ because she was a woman or a republican, and that she had all sorts of ‘executive’ experience over the others since she was a Gov for 2 years, I must respond… While I agree that some political figures, on both sides have been unfairly singled out, she is not one of them. She was/is not intellectually qualified to be in the position of VPOTUS, let alone POTUS; and while not always in the kindest fashion, it was simply pointed out. If Sen McCain was intent on a female running mate there were hundreds of better qualified, better educated, more capable, brilliant Republican women he could/should have chosen and I would be willing to bet that if he had done so it is very likely he would be our current POTUS. As for her touted ‘executive’ experience as a Gov for two years, please keep this in mind, Jesse Ventura has more ‘executive’ experience than she does, so technically he is ‘more qualified’ by those very limited standards that she was being held to. Consider for a moment the possibility of President Jesse ‘the Body’ Ventura.

  65. annie says:

pmsnbc loooooves to still condem palin, it’s over, why are you guys sooooo afraid of her?

  66. HashBrowns says:

@annie: I think people fear her coming into power because she isn’t very intelligent. There are plenty of people in this country who would vote her into power and she’d screw up worse than anyone else.

I’d say that would be something to fear.

  67. me says:

Annie, Why does the “Fair and Balanced” Network still run P.R. stories on her. Don’t they know “it’s over” also?

  68. caoileann says:

Oddly, being a Republican has not stopped John Malkovich – quit your whining and stop reducing your credibility by going on Fix News

  69. Annie says:

I don’t know who that other Annie is, but it sure isn’t me.

“Condemn” palin? Are you kidding? No one has to do anything, that lovely woman does enough to herself that we just have to use the verbatim soundbytes NOT taken out of context. Heck, Tina Fey’s parody was just her, reenacting her interviews.

You know it’s sad when the parody of you, is an actual verbatim dialogue and not an exaggeration. LOL.

My god, if she came into office, she’d probably start hunting all the endangered species and letting 17 year olds get knocked up. Good plan!

Oh! And Hieronymus Grex! I LOLed when I read your statement.

Also, I consider myself veryvery liberal and have Republican friends. How are you supposed to develop your own views without counter-views? Making the blanket statement that all liberals are close-minded hypocrites just shows YOUR true colors. So thanks for that posters.

  70. me says:

caoileann- “Fix News”, LOL! I love that!

    @Dante;

I vote we move all of the prisoners in Gitmo to a prison in your city, while they await their trial.

You will be hanging that razor wire around your house instead of Christmas lights.

  72. Falonjac says:

Some people need to get a grip on their hate! Ms Harmon is not off base when she says being a Republican might have cost her work. Hollywood is a one way street when it comes to politics. I worked in that industry and it most definately is not only liberal it is down right socialistic! I cannot believe the anger and hate that is coming from the majority of your responses! This kind of division is going to cost us all. We can diagree but what is up with all the hatred! As for the comment about Bush being the cause of unemployment do some research. This whole mess started back with Jimmy Carter and finally matured with the last administration! Get informed people then make up your minds!

  73. Hieronymus Grex says:

    @Dante;

    No no darling it’s Reginald-
that’s R-E-G-I-N-A-L-D. I know it’s exactly 2 letters longer than any word you’re capable of reading but I’m sure you can handle it if you turn off Faux News and concentrate. 🙄

  74. Annie says:

Daisy: But didn’t you hear what Miss Universe said? Gitmo’s sunshine and rainbows! It’s a beautiful, lovely place. (rofl)

  75. daisy424 says:

Dante, your tells are showing and it’s not flattering. Your comment is supposed to what, hurt my feelings? LMAO, I’m made from sterner stuff than that kiddo.

Rule #1, If you want to remain anonymous, change your key words and writing style and come up with better quips.

A simple check of IP addresses would seal the deal.

Until then, conjure up a more interesting comeback than the disappointingly trite ‘faux news’ talking point, or I’m not playing.

  76. HashBrowns says:

@daisy: A prison is called a prison for a reason. They won’t just be wandering freely around bombing things, jeez. Have some faith in YOUR American prison system. They’d probably lock them up in solitary anyway and keep them away from the general prison population.

  77. Annie says:

Aspen: I do not attack the personal lives of those on the left, unlike the perverse and just really juvenile things I’ve seen the left say about Sarah Palin, John McCain, and the Bush family.

That’s great, obviously you didn’t take a page out of John McCain and Sarah Palin’s book, because a good chunk of their campaign was smearsmearsmear. “Pals around with terrorists”

  78. Heironymus Grex says:

Oh yes because, only one person in a planet of over 60 billion could think of turning Fox news into Faux News. The last I checked this was still CB’s board and not yours, Daisy. Bear it in mind.

  79. Ana says:

She gives Republicans a bad name.

  80. Armand says:

She’s tired and has this very ‘dated’ quality. I’d put that date somewhere in the late 70’s early 80’s. She’s very life-time, after-school special material.
The idea that Republicans are chummy and open to hear the views of the other side are completely rediculous. Both sides are bull-headed.

  81. daisy424 says:

Hash browns, If they are tried in our court system with US citizen rights instead of in front of a military tribunal, they just might be “wandering freely around bombing things..” The rules of evidence are different. Evidence obtained against them would not be permitted that was gleaned theough any ‘questionable interrogation methods’. God forbid we step on any of their rights. They would probably lawyer up (there is always a lawyer out there willing to make a ‘name’ for themselves) and try to make a mockery of our court system and use our tax dollars to achieve that.
IMO Their trials should be considered military (enemy combatants) not a police matter.
btw, When you say YOUR prison system, what are you referring to?

@Dante; Make no mistake, I am very aware of who runs this site. I’m not the one who needs to be reminded of that fact. Rest assured, if it was me, you would have been banned months ago.

  82. Tiffany Griffin says:

Angie Harmon is not a good actress. THAT is the real reason why she is getting “passed over” for jobs. Hollywood cares about $$$ and not your political affiliation. Angie needs to put the blame where it belongs; on her poor acting skills. A pretty face in Hollywood can get you some roles when you are still young. But an “aging beauty” who’s acting is stilted and uninspiring should know when to bow out gracefully.

  83. Annie says:

Uh. I’m guessing Dante is Heironymus Grex? I’m not understanding the tiff.

But I will say this: So because “terrorists” are a certain way, we should strip them of their human rights? So it really isn’t equal rights for all, it’s just rights for those we decide should have them? If we judge them differently, how are we no better than they are? What sets us apart? We’re all about human rights when it’s convenient for us? But otherwise, screw that? Seems massively hypocritical.

And “Enemy combatants” is a bullshit term Bush came up with to justify treating human beings like less than animals and to justify infringing on people’s civil liberties.

  84. Trillion says:

It’s a sucky thought to give terrorists “rights” so I understand that, Daisy. For better or for worse, however, if the U.S. wants to regain integrity and practice what we preach to other countries, we ought to consistently stick to “innocent til proven guilty”. A very close friend of mine was murdered ten years ago. Her killer was finally caught (yay for cold case detectives and DNA!) but was given a light sentence due to a technicality. You can imagine our anger. But that technicality was legally intact and we had to suck it up. Awful, I know, but the law has to be upheld for posterity and to protect people who are actually innocent victims of police procedure gone bad. It can never be perfect, so it’s a matter of which side we caution to that separates us from lawless cultures.

  85. Trillion says:

Also, it’s worth noting that we don’t know a lot about who is in Gitmo, what they are charged with, who turned them in and why. We’ve already been hearing horror stories of innocent people held there with no charge, tortured and then finally released. It’s the kind of thing that we’re used to hearing from those other savage, freedom hating countries.

  86. Annie says:

And we’ve also had many instances where innocent Americans were charged with something and then, decades after their death, their name is cleared.

I read an article about this a couple weeks back on CNN about a young man (early 20s) who was charged with the murder of a young woman who he had never even met. He was sentenced to life and ended up dying in prison, only to have DNA evidence show that he was innocent.

Yes our system is flawed, and it will hopefully improve, but that just shows that the people in Gitmo might not even be guilty (I’m not saying all, because I’m positive some of the people in there are horrible human beings. But others may just have been in the wrong place at the wrong time.)

Laws and rights need to be upheld to maintain the social integrity of the United States. It’s bad enough we’re proponents of Democracy and when a democracy arises that we disagree with, we rip ’em down. Let’s not add more hypocrisies to the list.

  87. daisy424 says:

    Annie & Trillion,
First, may I say that I am sorry about your friend Trillion. What a screwed up, disappointing outcome. Her family must have been enraged.

I do agree with most of what you both say. It’s a fine line to tread, there are positives and negatives to our legal system. As far as the Gitmo detainees are concerned, I honestly believe that most if not all, don’t want democracy and mock us for that belief. But love it when it works to their advantage.

I agree with keeping integrity, but don’t believe that if the roles were reversed, they would be as respectful of our GI’s rights/lives.

Remember, these people (whether you call them EC’s or Boy Scouts) were not picked up at your local Walmart for shoplifting. If they were fighting against us on the battlefield, they’re our enemies.
I will not budge in my resolve and I will admit that my views regarding our security and prison punishment/rehabilitation have changed greatly since I was in my 20’s and 30’s.

But what sticks with me the most is the image of flight 11 & 175 plowing into the Trade Center buildings, and the 2,974 innocent people who were murdered that day.
Or the USS Cole in Yemen, the first bombing of the WTC, the 1998 bombings at the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania that killed more than 200,or the ’93 gunfight that killed 18 U.S. troops in Somalia or the ’96 bombing of the Khobar military complex in Saudi Arabia that left 19 of our soldiers dead.
I find it hard to be charitable to prisoners who want my fellow citizens dead.
    Sorry about the rant.

  88. Annie says:

but don’t believe that if the roles were reversed, they would be as respectful of our GI’s rights/lives.

Neither one of us said that. Of course they probably wouldn’t! But we have to remember that just because they would do something, doesn’t mean we should as well.

What about the thousands of innocent people the U.S. has killed? (Cheney’s band of assassin that were outside the jurisdiction of Congress, or the Iraqi children who’ve been caught in the crossfire or the CIA killing Venezuelan citizens?) I’m not justifying the behaviors of those awful acts committed on U.S. citizens. You are 100% correct that those were terrible events that should not have happened. But I am saying that we’re not perfect either and perhaps, just as we view them as terrorists, they view us as the same.

And we can only become otherwise when we adhere to our own dictated philosophies.

You’re talking to a girl who has many friends in the army/navy/marines right now. Who’ve served in Iraq and whose lives I worry about on a regular basis. But I still think that people should be treated like people. If we treat them like animals, what’s to stop them from doing the same? Of course, I understand your argument that what’s to stop them from doing that anyway, but you know, it’s easy to stand for something when there are no consequences for it. It’s a true test when you can adhere to the tenets of freedom and equal rights for all when the opposite would be more advantageous.

It’s kind of like Free Speech in a sense. I think it’s utterly ridiculous that Rush Limbaugh can spout his racist crap all over the soundwaves. I think it sends a horrible message and has very negative effects, but he has a right to say them. I think that cross-burning is highly offensive and shouldn’t happen, but the Supreme Court has upheld the constitutionality of it and they were right to do so. Because what if something I do, is offensive to someone else? Then I’m not allowed to do it? You can’t pick and choose who gets rights to certain rights and who doesn’t. It doesn’t work like that, and I’m thankful for that.

  89. daisy424 says:

    Annie, this is what I could find on Cheney through CNN;
    http://74.125.93.104/search?q=cache:9DO1vjvUu74J:thepoliticalcarnival.blogspot.com/2009/03/video-seymour-hersh-discusses-dick.html+Cheney%E2%80%99s+band+of+assassin&cd=2&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

I searched and could not find anything on CIA killing citizens in Venezuela, only claims from Chavez that the CIA was out to ‘get’ him. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/23/robertson.chavez/

If Iraqi children were caught in the crossfire, it is an unspeakable horror. As I remember it the insurgents who were using women and children as human shields.
I did search for a reputable, non political site to post a link, but was unable to find one with actual casualty #’s.
I did however find more links, while searching under ‘Iraqi children killed by us troops’ CNN included, that had articles regarding insurgents killing children with road side bombs, car bomb attacks, or insurgent bombings of hosps & schools, where US GI’s guarding the Iraqi children were also killed.
I too have many friends and their children who are in the military, some of which are stationed in Iraq, Korea & Afganistan. They all paint a much different picture of what is actually going on there, most of which is not shown in some MSM.

When posting the claims you have in your comments, please include a link to a reputable news agency without political bias, to back up what you are claiming.
Facts before opinions, without it we are all powerless trying to sound important on the Internet.

btw, It is occurring to me that you have some kind of problem with me. I have noticed you ‘singling me out’ in other unrelated threads, or am I wrong?

  90. The Old KC says:

Wow, Angie, do you know some Republicans like that? ‘Cause I’ve never met any who were willing to listen to anyone else’s opinions that differed even slightly from their own for longer than, say, two seconds. That’s cool that the Republicans you hang out with are like that – I’d be interested to meet them.

  91. j. ferber says:

This is one of the most entitled bitches I’ve ever seen. It’s laughable that she’s trying to play the victim here. Yeah, you’ve been discriminated against, Angie. As a rich, white woman married to an even wealthier sports star, you have a lot to complain about. Yeah, right.

    • Shemp says:

File under ‘better late than never’:

Spot on comment! I like Angie H but gimme a break — the Dixie Chicks were nearly tarred & feathered for criticizing Bush’s war. Angie’s career never suffered THAT much.

  92. Codzilla says:

Daisy, I absolutely agree that any argument’s merit hinges on factual evidence. Regurgitating the conspiracy theories you heard from your college professor after sharing a joint doesn’t count. (Believe me, I learned that one the hard way.)

That being said, I don’t believe the US is anywhere near perfect, and I don’t think Daisy is saying that, either. But if you’re going to make grave accusations, please provide links to back up your argument.

  93. Annie says:

    Oh geez.

I typed in a simple google search and came up with this:

    http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/09/09/1094530764694.html
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6637307.stm

Or for Venezuela/CIA relations, read Phillip Agee’s Inside the Company: CIA Diary

I wasn’t aware that I needed links every time I said something, but hey, if you’ll offer the same courtesy. I can do so as well.

I’m not targeting you, please get over yourself. I’m not even really targeting period, I was attempting to make a point here that there is no innocent party in all this. Americans or Iraqis. We all share in having blood on our hands. In fact, if you read what I said, I said that I agreed with your claims. I just happened to also note that I think we should rise above.

Of course, I understand your argument that what’s to stop them from doing that anyway, but you know, it’s easy to stand for something when there are no consequences for it. It’s a true test when you can adhere to the tenets of freedom and equal rights for all when the opposite would be more advantageous.

Is one of the things I said and uh, maybe our notions are different but it doesn’t look like I’m targeting you at all.

  94. daisy424 says:

Annie, “oh, Geez” you sound aggravated that I am calling you on your prior statements. I’m not the only person on this site that appreciate links to facts that back up claims/theories.
Reading your prior posts, you recite claims as if they are facts.
Thank you for posting links, but I find them to be weak examples based on your claims. They mention 2 incidents, both went on to clarify what I wrote in the above post. I do appreciate your effort though.
    As for Agee’s book, I did found this tidbit about it and Amazon reader’s reviews mostly disagreed with Agee’s motives, in a nutshell;
The book’s main achievement is to provide the Communists and extreme Left with specific knowledge of CIA’s Latin American operations and insight into CIA modus operandi in order to permit them to counter U.S. and particular CIA actions. CSI

Get over myself? Ffs, you opened this can, not me. Please don’t insult me by denying what I’m referring to. The following are two comments in which you call me out, not by name but parrot my prior comment, these ring a bell?
    Palin thread;
“How is it stirring up crap? That’s a recent Todd Palin interview.
As for the whole birth control+condoms not working, it only not works if they don’t use it :P.”
Btw, how many teenage daughters have you raised? Your comment was insulting.
As for stirring up crap, you clearly have no idea to what I was referring to.
    M.Obama thread;
” Yes, she’s 45. But that doesn’t necessarily mean she’s going through menopause. Or has gone through. There’s a good chance, yes. But every body is different and unique. Some women get it really early, some women get it really late. *shrugs* Who’s to say?”
You obviously must be very young to have stated that.

I am not in any way attempting to be belligerent towards you, but feel compelled to defend myself.

Moving on now, I am battling with ennui.

  95. ms. mary says:

you know…if you didn’t tell people you were a Republican, no one would know!

  96. aicraGnelG says:

Frankly, I agree with j. ferber’s comment earlier. It’s laughable to see a rich, entitled white woman who’s married to a rich sports star rant about being a victim of “discrimination” at the hands of the apparently omniscient and omnipotent “liberal media”. I’ll keep my opinions of her acting to myself, because that’s beside the point. So she’s not getting as much work as she’d like as an actress; Angie, ever hear of INITIATIVE? If you love acting so much, why not WALK OUT YOUR FRONT DOOR, AND DRUM UP SOME FREELANCE WORK SOMEWHERE? Unions holding you back? Move to Texas or another so-called “Right to Work” state. You don’t have to stay in Cali if you feel you’re not getting work there. RELOCATE! Own it, girl. You’re a REPUBLICAN, for heaven’s sake, you’re supposed to know this stuff on your own, instead of having to hear it from a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT!

  97. Chip says:

Republicans used to be more from the elite– Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. But now republicans too often are people like Angie who didn’t get passed high school and don’t seem to be thoughtful.

Give us a thoughtful intelligent conservative and we can talk.

  98. Don Nelson says:

She has said she wants her girls to be raised as strong southern women. Yea, that will last until their strong southern husband get drunk, drag them around by their hair, beats them senseless and goes off to the bar for a nightcap.
