Josh Duggar’s political allies have started throwing him under the bus now

duggar2

It’s worth remembering and noting WHY Josh Duggar’s utter downfall has been so gleeful and heartwarming for many marriage-equality advocates and allies: because Josh Duggar really is a spectacular hypocrite with a long history of LGBT-bashing and anti-equality advocacy. Go here to read some statements he made just before he was outed as a child molester. He has a history of equating LGBTQ people to people “harming children” and blaming gay marriage for everything wrong in America.

People Magazine notes that in Josh’s statement after In Touch Weekly revealed all about the child molestation, he claimed that all of his sins were in the past. As we now know, they were not. We now know that for YEARS while Josh Duggar was executive director of the Family Research Council, he was also addicted to p0rn and paying to hook up with strange on Ashley Madison. Speaking of the FRC, FRC president Tony Perkins made a statement about the latest Josh Duggar mess. Remember, Duggar resigned from his position back in May, when the child molestation stuff came out.

Following Duggar’s Thursday confession, Tony Perkins issued a statement to The Christian Post saying the organization is “hurt” by Duggar’s actions.

“Last night we learned from online reports about allegations concerning Josh Duggar and then read his confession today. We are grieved by Josh’s conduct and the devastating impact of his pornography addiction and marital unfaithfulness,” Perkins wrote. “Our hearts hurt for his family, and all those affected by Josh’s actions.”

Perkins continued by stating that Duggar and everyone else who advocates for traditional family morals should be held to a “higher standard.”

“His deceitful behavior harms his family, his friends, his former coworkers, and the cause he has publicly espoused,” Perkins asserted. “Those of us who advocate for family values in the public square are held to a higher standard, and Josh’s failures serve as a painful reminder of the destructive effects of not living with integrity. We are praying for the family.”

[From Christian Post]

Part of me is happy that Josh Duggar is being thrown so thoroughly under the bus, even by his former political allies. Another part of me wants to shake all of these people and scream: “YOU ARE THE PROBLEM.” The larger problem isn’t an issue with “integrity” and that somehow “integrity” is being defined as “heterosexual marriage with no cheating, no porn and the woman just pops out babies constantly, and then it’s perfectly okay to other-ize and villainize everyone else.”

Meanwhile, do you remember In Touch Weekly’s reporting back in June about the mysterious 911 call from the Duggar compound in Arkansas? Someone at Arkansas DHS was investigating a tip about the Duggars, and when the Duggars wouldn’t comply with the DHS worker’s requests, the worker called 911 on the Duggars – go here to recap. We still don’t know much about it. We don’t know if the cops came out. We don’t know if this was all part of an ongoing DHS investigation. And now the Arkansas papers are following up on In Touch Weekly’s reporting – go here to read. The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has been filing FOIA requests to get more information and they’ve been turned down. I hope there’s a lot more follow-up on all of this.

NOW? Like this is so much worse than the child molestations?

    • Snazzy says:

RIGHT??? this is what is pissing me off the most. HOW is infidelity worse than pedophilia?

      • Suzy from Ontario says:

I know! How many of these people minimized his sexual molestation of his sisters and defended him? But he cheats on his wife and then suddenly he’s no good because – no integrity! Sheesh! Stop trying to blame same sex marriages and homosexuality for destroying families! There are an awful lot of same sex couples who are more committed and loving to each other and do more good in the world than these guys ever will! Hypocrites, all of them! They act all outraged over Josh, but I guarantee that they all have skeletons in their closet. When one of them gets found out, they all get scared and that is where I think a lot of their outrage comes from. Something is wrong with people, imo, who fight so venomously against others who have done them no wrong and who are asking for nothing more than to get the same rights with their lovedf one than any other citizen of their country. It’s none of their business (Josh and co.) who someone loves (as long as they are consenting adults) and what they do in their bedroom as long as no one is being victimized or hurt against their will. I’m sure if someone exposed what a lot of these holier-than-thou folks do in their bedrooms that there’d be a shockwave going through the Christian community! Put your energy into making the world a better place and encouraging tolerance, acceptance and treating people with respect and kindness instead of hate and intolerance and acting superior just because you believe in something others may not.

    • frisbee says:

Thought exactly the same thing. Did they make a comment in the wake of the child molestation revelations?

    • Annie says:

You are so right. Leaves me shaking my head. NOW, indeed…

    • Starrywonder says:

I am so angry. This is what gets people to separate from him. HYPOCRITES!

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Exactly. Puke.

    • Jorts says:

Too bad the Josh Duggar hate train left the station months ago.

    • MonicaQ says:

These people make flames appear on the sides of my face.

      • Shambles says:

Oh yes, Mrs White. Except to these people, it’s the women who should be, “like Kleenex. Soft, strong and disposable.”

      • mimif says:

        *throws margarita on MonicaQ*

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Mimif, you’re just so darn helpful…

      • Brandy Armstrong says:

I’m living for this clue reference!!! “flames on the side of my face, breathing, breath, heaving breath”!!! Couldn’t have said it better – this family makes me so angry & disgusted, just like all these aholes now jumping ship bc he’s a cheater – hypocrites all of them!! Thank goodness for celebitchy’s commentators otherwise I couldn’t stomach reading some of these articles!! We see you clearly Duggars now go the EFF away !

      • Maria A. says:

I hear ya! There’s smoke coming out of my ears as I type.

    • Cee says:

I knew this would happen – His family and supporters would find it more shocking he paid to cheat and watched porn, than by him molesting his sisters and another minor.

I believe molesting your underage sisters is also against their idea of what MARRIAGE and FAMILY should be like. They’re all hypocrites.

      • teacakes says:

They covered up the child molestation by saying ‘he was a minor’ and it’s all in the past and the sisters forgave him, only God can judge, blah blah. (I’m trying not to vomit)

but the Ashley Madison stuff is very much in the present, no way to wiggle him out of that. He wasn’t an underage boy when he was paying money to cheat on his wife!

      • BarkingMad says:

I completely agree, Cee. I’d love to know what secrets all those FRC people are worried might get out about them, too. In my experience, lots of people like them have horrible secrets.

    • L says:

THIS THIS THIS. He touched his sister’s and that’s NBD, but cheat on his wife? Bridge to far. (eye roll)

Start the count down to when they’ll start saying it’s a ‘private family matter’ and yammering on about ‘forgiveness’. I give it a week.

      • Kiddo says:

Probably the wife was relieved he was getting some on the side. She could power down the baby-making machine for the times he was elsewhere.

      • I Choose Me says:

You don’t have to wait. In the tail end of his statement he’s already asking for forgiveness.

Jim Dumb and Michelle are probably more upset at the further damaging of their brand than the fact that he cheated. And I’m sure as we speak they’re looking for a way to spin this so that they can hop back on the TLC gravy train in future.

    • jwoolman says:

He was still a kid during his previous activities. But now he’s a full grown adult, married with children. He did lose his job when the molestations were revealed, however. But his adult activities are very counter to what the organization he worked with was promoting, so it really is an issue they can’t stay silent about. They were willing to just fire him earlier, but this was something they really did have to address. I imagine they’re flooded with phone calls, e-mails etc. – including from donors. The politicians likewise are looking at irate constituents and supporters. You have to remember that these are people who believe viewing porn is very wrong, which not all here agree with, as well as hold the more universal belief that marital infidelity and the deception that goes along with it is very wrong. So it’s not that they believe it’s ok to molest children, it’s just that they were able to believe that his behavior was in the past while he was still a child himself, and that he had reformed and asked for forgiveness and received it. So they felt duped when they found out the guy was looking at porn and signing up on sites for one-night stands for the past few years. Really very different situations.

    • Louise177 says:

That’s what gets me. Sexually abusing his sisters is fine but porn and adultery is too far? Not excusing adultery but at least they are consenting, conscious adults.

    • swack says:

Not defending Josh at all, but what I can possibly see as a defense, by them, as to why no outrage at the child molestation is that he was “only” 14 at the time and it was then and this is now. I don’t agree with this but this is what I see as a possible explanation. My problem is, if he molested at 14, then he is most likely molesting now or will molest in the future and I worry about his daughters. I think TLC should have immediately cancelled the show, no if’s, and’s or buts, when the molestation information came out.

    • Alex says:

If I think about it to much I’ll fly into a rage. Seriously because I thought the same thing when this story broke

    • Sparkly says:

Exactly! And these are the people who are trying to legislate everyone into being just like them.

    • Rebecca says:

Exactly. Apparently if you are a uber religious conservative, it is allright to molest children, but you shouldn’t cheat on your wife and don’t you dare be gay!!

  2. Shambles says:

More of this. Sigh. Deep, deep sigh. I know it sounds like white noise because I brought it up on the previous thread, but these crazies just keep illustrating my point as the day goes on. He touched young kids, sometimes incestually? Why blame a young man for being curious? But he looked at porn? He cheated on his wife? That’s it. That’s the line. There are acceptable kinds of sins, and then there are not.

Today, though I’m agnostic, I’ll do my own form of praying. During my meditation today, I’ll be sending good vibes to all of you guys. I know you’re just as exhausted by this muck as I am.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Back atcha. And I try to start every day with a grateful thought, so today, I am grateful that this hypocrisy is being exposed for what it is, and pray that some adult, hopefully Anna, will take steps to be sure those children are safe.

    • frisbee says:

I’m grateful that there are so many decent, intelligent people on this site who are all over this crap like a rash – you guys give me hope.

    • Brandy Armstrong says:

Plus 1 – I feel like I have to cleanse my soul & tablet after every duggar story I read …but I’m so proud of the journalists who have exposed these hypocrites to us – gives me some small hope for the world….until I see a kardashian story that is

  3. SillySimone says:

Anyone want to bet that this Perkins character likely had an Ashley account too?

    • JFresh says:

      Lol it’s a strong possibility, I’d say….

    • Chichi says:

Nah. More likely an Adam4Adam account.

    • doofus says:

      or RentBoy…

    • Suzy from Ontario says:

Yeah that’s what’s so funny…half of these guys have just as many skeletons in their own closets as Josh, if not more! Yet they puff themselves up with outrage when one of their ilk is caught with his pants down, so to speak. They are all such hateful hypocrites! It’s pretty sad when your life is all about hating and intolerance.

  4. Birdix says:

Unfortunately these March for marriage people are just like the NRA–when confronted with hypocrisy they get all squirrelly and talk out of both sides of their mouths in confusing platitudes, admitting nothing and confusing everyone until hands are thrown up and, sadly, few opinions changed. Depressing.

  5. minx says:

Ha! I was waiting for this.
I love that the Duggars thought their doughy, uneducated twit was going to go into politics. President Duggar!
    Dreams die hard.

  6. AntiSocialButterfly says:

Is it just me, or does Anna wear an silent scream for help in every. single. picture.?

  7. Lilacflowers says:

Oh just stop with the devastation of the porn addiction! He wasn’t devastated by it unless he bankrupted the family paying for sites that require a credit card. People who are devastated by porn are the ones who are exploited into making porn, not the guy watching it on his office computer. It isn’t like poor addicted Josh’s pancreas is in end stage or anything

    • Jorts says:

Yeah! Leave my porn out of this, man.

    • embertine says:

Lilac, in my head you’re typing this with one hand while angrily downing a mimosa with the other. You’re wearing a caftan and glittery flipflops and you have a tiny dog on your lap. All of which is to say, I love this comment.

    • imqrious2 says:

👍👊👌👏👏👏 YES!! YES!! YES!! YOU ARE SPOT ON LILACFLOWERS!

  8. Christin says:

I still suspect this remains only the tip of the iceberg. My gut instinct is that there is a deeper story that may or may not be revealed. And it probably involves the tree that produced this rotten apple. *Both* parents.

    • FingerBinger says:

Michelle and Jim Bob are probably swingers.

      • embertine says:

AAAAAAHHHHH NOOOOOO WHITHER THE BRAIN BLEACH

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        With who? (Whom?) grooooooooossssssssss

      • Brandy Armstrong says:

Aaaaah NO!! My eyes, my brain, the mental picture you just inflicted!!!! Great now I gotta go get high to remove that from my mind lololol

      • funcakes says:

I picture the Duggar men holding out all but three minutes in the bedroom. Missionary of courses

      • Christin says:

Well, that’s actually probably more realistic than where my mind was going. I’m envisioning each having secret (possibly same sex) affairs with church members.

I live in a region with several very conservative churches, and one had its preacher get caught by police with his pants down with a very young man in the church van. Another had a preacher who announced he was gay. Another had a pastor who condemned everyone and everything. He was was caught in an affair with a member’s wife and alletedly bamboozed an elderly church member out of her life savings. So, I can envision almost anything with this couple.

It’s the ones who judge most harshly who often have the most to hide.

      • doofus says:

“It’s the ones who judge most harshly who often have the most to hide. ”

yup, just like toe-tapping Larry Craig who championed anti-gay legislation, it’s the old “look at all those sinners, and don’t look at what I’M doing behind this curtain over here…”

  9. e says:

why do I even bother stating this…?

No matter how hard I, or we (those folks who believe in equal marriage and LGBT rights and see them as equals…why wouldn’t we?) try we’re never never gone to win this argument or come to an agreement. It’s what you are at your core that determines your worth and value as a human being What’s in your soul and how your heart treats and cares for their fellow man/woman. NOT in what faith you claim stake to.

I’m personally not gay/b/t (not even married) but I find myself constantly fighting the good fight for marriage equality and LGBT rights. Why? Because it makes sense. It seems so ignorant and blind to me that you can group people together and label them ALL as bad, evil, demonic.

People, are people, are people. There are good people and bad. Do I get upset w/ uber, hardcore Christian fanatics? Yes. Are there good ones? Yes. of course. Am I on a platform to attack, degrade and demonize right wing Christians? No. Live and let live.

As long as we love people, harm none why can’t we get along? It seems like such a tragic waste of time/energy these right wing, extreme Christian groups put into their hate.

I just can’t wait (sort of!) for the end. We’ll all find out in the end won’t we? We’ll either be done in the dirt of we’ll hear the FINAL word from the all mighty Creator him/her self. My hunch, and this is my ‘belief’ is that God values love, acceptance.

I just really want to be there when some of these folks (pictured above) make their entry in Heaven. I think they’ll be in for a shock and a lil bottom slap “naughty’ from God

    • Brandy Armstrong says:

This. Agree wholeheartedly with every word and have been saying the same myself – there are gonna be a lot of surprised faces when love & acceptance gets you through those pearly gates ….

  10. Jorts says:

“Those of us who advocate for family values in the public square are held to a higher standard.”

The urban dictionary describes “family values” as “an abstract concept that is often made reference to by fundamentalist f*ckmuppets as a way to condemn working mothers, gay people, single parents, sex education, and anything else that wasn’t on ‘Leave In To Beaver’.”

  11. Lilacflowers says:

My sister in NH, whose twisted mind knows few boundaries, makes a point to meet as many presidential candidates as she can. She is printing out photos of Duggar with these guys and plans to ask them to autograph the pictures at “Meet & Greets”

    • MonicaQ says:

Reminds me of my cousin who tried to sell cupcake batter at a pro-life church bake sell, insisting un-ironically that they were cupcakes with the full rights of cupcakes. She’s an epic real life troll (that makes me giggle-snort, I’m not going to lie).

    • doofus says:

      that is awesome.

she’ll probably be removed by security, but I hope she tries it with all of ’em!

ETA: she needs to get someone to film all of it!

      • Lilacflowers says:

Oh, she’ll do it. She takes political trolling to a very high level. She does things like hand the telephone to toddlers when political telemarketers call. One Election Day, she voted as soon as the polls opened when she dropped her daughter at school. Returned home to a call from the campaign of the other candidate offering her a ride. So, she took it. This involved putting car seats for a baby and a preschooler into the campaign car, getting the kids into the car and out/back in at the polling place. Home about 15 minutes and they called offering another ride. They NEVER checked her off the list. She spent the day riding back and forth to the polls. She actually does take voting and NH’s role in the process quite seriously and has raised her kids to take it seriously too but she has her fun with the fools. She also handed a screaming kid to Ann Romney once. My sister scares me. I love her

      • doofus says:

I don’t even know her and I think *I* love her! what a crack up she must be!

      • frisbee says:

        @ Lilacflowers – I love your sister too…

      • Kiddo says:

        Lilac, I LOVE HER.

    • mimif says:

Your sister in NH and MoniqaQ’s cousin with her cupcake batter are my new trolling muses.

      • Dvaria says:

can we get them together for a reality show? Without Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, this election season is going to be pretty boring without a replacement troll

      • I Choose Me says:

Right? And now I have the Rawhide tune playing in my head with trollin in place of rollin.

  12. It'sJustBlanche says:

I just smile the biggest Grinchy grin. The slow kind that you’re just a little bit ashamed about. But not really.

  13. Jaded says:

His wife stated that she won’t leave him, that it’s her educated opinion that she’s “part of the problem” and will share the blame.

Save us all from the self-righteous bible-thumpers….and I really hope that the right’s support of hypocritical turds like the Duggars comes back to bite them a hundredfold. They are proof that evolution CAN go in reverse.

  14. Sam says:

I feel so bad for Anna, Josh’s wife. She had a baby a month ago and now you know she is beating herself up over this. She was raised in a tradition that teaches that a wife has a moral duty to keep her husband sexually satisfied and happy. Can you imagine the thoughts in her mind? She’s probably wondering if she did enough, if she was attractive enough, available enough, etc. She’s still caring for a newborn and now she is probably experiencing a guilt and shame trip like nothing else. How awful. I wish somebody with some sense would drag her away from there with the kids and help her figure her life out. But that’ll never happen.

    • Nicole says:

But she has no issue keeping her four girls in a home with a confessed pedophile. She needs to protect those girls and not worry about what she thinks she did wrong. (Which is nothing.) Someone needs to get those kids out of that home then she can fret about what to do with her philandering child abusing husband.

  15. vauvert says:

There is a a God, and she has a fabulous sense of humor. I am so tired of these people (right wing lunatics) applying positive labels to themselves – ‘family values”, “pro-life”. Please, go suck a lemon. You are narrow minded, selfish, limited trolls who interpret the assumed words of your assumed deity passed through multiple oral interpretations and translations into whatever patriarchal prescription best suits your purposes and who think that anyone not fitting in your tiny little definition boxes is somehow “less worthy”. Makes me rage-y every time. And I can’t help but feel joy when these hypocrites are exposed for what they are.
While I would hate for any member of this family to get back in the public eye, I do hope the girls somehow get out, get therapy, get an education and a new life. That, and public oblivion for the rest of them, (and a nice long sentence for the pedo) would be ideal.

  16. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

    Where’s Huckabee’s fat face?

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

That’s what I came here looking for as well…thought this would be more about Huckabee disowning them publicly.

    • BB says:

He needs to, henceforth, be referred to only as “Huckabee Fat Face”

  17. frivolity says:

Can we just throw all of these hypocritical hate-mongers under the bus and call it a day?

  18. Christina says:

I have this weird thought that may be unpopular here but here goes:

It’s pretty clear that his “problems” are directly related to his family suppressing his natural urges and the ability to comfortably express them in a healthy way, right? What if he gets shunned from his family, community, etc. but is actually the breakout child? He realizes that his family is fucking nuts and, shit, let’s go all the way.. He becomes an atheist hahah goes to rehab, whatevs.. But leaned how his body and mind actually works.

Would that change anything for anyone? I’d like to see it.. Not that I’m sticking up for him… Just providing another possible outcome.

    • Kiddo says:

Well that would be cool, but my unprofessional opinion is that his kink is doing what he knows is morally wrong according to the church, and it’s exiting if he does it in plain sight, but without getting caught. Molested the kids right in the home and then used the email, address etc on the cheating site. Probably that titillation is locked into doing wrong within the confines of the puritanical hysteria. Wonder if he can get it up, without the Satan element, after this has been imprinted into his psycho-sexual being, KWIM?

  19. Giddy says:

Years ago I was unlucky enough to have to attend a church service when an in-law was declared a deacon of his church. Each new deacon was invited to address the congregation; luckily my relative just thanked everyone for the honor. But there was another new deacon who gave a speech that I know we will hear from the Duggar camp. “Brothers and sisters I stand before you as a humble man because of this honor. I’m humbled because in my life I have been a sinner, OH YES I HAVE!” Cue the crocodile tears and his wife on the front row began quietly weeping. ” For I had a good life, a blessed life with my wonderful wife and children, but the devil came a-calling.” Wife lets out a loud sob. “Oh yes, satan came and he called to me with his pornography, his alcohol, and his loose women. And I was weak, and I succumbed to satan’s lures. And it was a great victory for satan because when he can turn one of us believers to his temptations it is a far greater victory than if he tempts the ungodly man. But I finally got the strength to battle back against him, I called my brother in law, confessed all to him, and he called a group together to pray for me. They prayed, they laid their hands upon me, and together we cast that devil out and back to the hellish depths. I stand here a changed man, a man who is right with God, a man who has confessed all and been forgiven, and I pledge to go forth and live a Godly life.” A year later he left his wife and his church because that new teller at the bank was so sexy.

But this is what we will hear from the Duggar camp; that Josh was a good man tempted by satan, but that satan’s victory was short lived because Josh fought his way back to God. And there will be those who will forgive him, but luckily his career in politics is toast.

  20. JRenee says:

This just disgusts me. Infidelity and p0rn is worse than child molestation ???

  21. iheartgossip says:

He needs to be so far under the bus he’ll never see the light of day again.

  22. Annoyed says:

Can we done with Josh Dugger now please. If Anna stays that her choice but really he has proven three fold “what type of man” he is. Stick a fork in it – he’s done.

Anna – take your kids and go. No court or decent woman in this world would fault you for getting out now….
