Mariah Carey’s boyfriend James Packer: ‘Madonna can’t sing five octaves’

wenn22651712

James Packer and Mariah Carey are still happening. I feel sorry for him a little bit. While Mariah is a “catch” on paper, I have to wonder if she’s more trouble than she’s worth in real life. Still, it’s still being said that Packer actively pursued her and he’s still “wooing” her, which I’m sure pleases her to no end. But is she pleased enough to give up the cookie? Maybe. And according to a totally random Aussie tabloid, Mariah might be knocked up already.

They already have five children between them from previous relationships, but a new magazine report suggests that Mariah Carey, 45, and James Packer, 47, are set to add another bundle of joy to their blended family. New Idea claims that the Australian billionaire and the pop diva are expecting their first child together after going public with their relationship in June.

‘Mariah found out the baby news recently and they’re overjoyed at the prospect of being parents,’ the publication reports an ‘insider’ as saying. ‘She adores James and it’s well-known within her social circle that she would love to have children with him.’

[From The Daily Mail]

Mariah had fertility treatments to give birth to Dem Babies, correct? I always assumed that because… well, twins. And because of her age. So I definitely think this crap – Mariah doesn’t really want to have any more babies (at least that’s my guess). And she definitely wouldn’t get accidentally pregnant, right? Right.

Meanwhile, James Packer is still pouring on the compliments. Which is smart, because compliments sustain Mariah. Packer was interviewed by an Australian media outlet while he was in Israel for one of Mariah’s concerts last week. Here’s what he said about his lady:

“Yes, yes, yes I loved it and it was a magic night” the 47-year-old Australian said when asked if he had had a good time. “She’s a genius and has had more number one singles than any other artist. And she is not political, she is an entertainer. Everyone just loved her. They might not know she has not had an easy life but still went on to write more no. 1 hits than anyone else. I mean 18 number one hits, that is just so incredible.

“I mean who else is there? There is Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Not Madonna. Just Streisand, Houston and Maria. I mean I’m not saying there is anything wrong with Madonna or Madonna’s music but those three can sing five octaves. Madonna can’t. Mariah is just incredible, amazing she really is.”

He admitted he knew many of her songs but not all of them.

[From The Daily Telegraph]

Well done, Mr. Packer. For that, Mariah will let you see her by the light of one candle, but only if you bring her a piece of jewelry. I guess I didn’t remember/know that Mariah has an issue with Madonna? Because this feels like a comparison Mariah made to James and he’s just parroting it – “Darling, Madonna is crap, I can sing five octaves!”

That photo of Mariah nearly falling down the stairs with James sitting there smoking and not bothering to get up is too much! As for the comment about Mariah/ Madonna he is right. Madonna can’t really hit those high notes, but Mariah’s voice is not as strong as it used to be

    • Lindy79 says:

I know, not even an attempt to stand up to look as if he’s arsed.

(I doubt Mariah can sing 5 octaves anymore to be honest)

    • Mia V. says:

Madonna and Mariah can’t be compared, they are different type of singers.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

I came to say just that. I hope the two of them aren’t on this lets start trashing people, because of Mariah pays close attention she’ll see that this guy is more obsessed than in love. Just my opinion.

    • K says:

Maybe the pic was taken a second before he reacted. Probably happened really fast. Idk. Maybe. That’s what I’d like to think anyway. Most if not all of us would have some kind of knee-jerk reaction whether we wanted to assist or not. This no doubt happened unexpectedly.

      • Tanya S says:

Nope he didn’t bother to react or get up at all. When he was “Dating” Miranda Kerr he sat with the same pose and watched one of his flunkies help her into the boat while he watched.

My Hubby might not be a Billionaire but he sure as heck would not sit on his bum while I tripped over, he would be on his feet as fast as he could be to help me.

    • K says:

…unless if he was high on something. 🙂

    • someone says:

At this point Mariah could stop using her top 2 octaves and the world would be a better place.

      Screech screech screech

  2. minx says:

If she doesn’t mind sleeping with him (blech) I say go for it.
He seems to admire her, I’ll say that for him.
I can’t get over the hairline. It makes him look not fully evolved.

    • Sandy123 says:

He definitely has a cro magnum look going for him. Good thing he’s rich, right?? Rich types like him care about number one and the numbers in the bank accounts. Marian is just an accessory.

      • Ange says:

He’s very like his dad, whose nickname was ‘hammerhead shark.’

Looks run in the family is what I’m saying.

    • elle says:

HAHAHA… I just LOL’ed in a meeting. He looks like Shrek.

    • JRenee says:

      Oh my, lol!

  3. Palar says:

James sure knows how to pick them. Actually all of his past ladies, apart from his most recent ex wife Erica, are all very similar. All very self obsessed!

  4. ORLY says:

He gives me “less sweaty looking” Simon Cowell vibes.

  5. Swofty says:

Hahaha, so Packer now knows what octaves are..
    Job well done…

  6. ds says:

Well Madonna can’t sing. That’s bareley news. Singing skills didn’t get her where she is. She knew business. Too bad she lost her touch though. I wish she would quit. The only thing that could bring her credibility is working with underground succesfull producers ….but I’m off topic now

    • RainbowBrite says:

I disagree with that. Madonna has a nice strong and clear voice. You can understand all the words she is singing. Yeah she over-sold herself via her sexual stage antics. But one thing no one can take from Madonna – girl can truly sing.

      • Joan says:

Agreed completely. Plus Madonna writes her own lyrics, many of which are meaningful and intelligent. (“Bitch, I’m Madonna” is obviously an exception and generally heavily loathed.)

    • Grant says:

Madonna is not a very good vocalist. Just because you can understand someone’s voice doesn’t mean they’re a good singer. If you listen to Madonna’s live performances (when she doesn’t lip sync), she can’t sustain a belt, she has very limited control over her vibrato, and she’s often off-pitch. She’s basically Britney Spears–great performer, limited vocal ability.

    • islandwalker says:

I agree ds, Madonna is a terrible vocalist, never understood her popularity. She is however an accomplished business woman and entertainer or she would never have had the staying power she has had.

  7. YvesWestwood says:

Good for him. The Madonna of now sucks.

  8. Ronda says:

lol the last pic of him sitting there while Mariah looks like she is falling, priceless.

  9. Emma - the JP Lover says:

Christina Aguilera has a verified 4 octave range, which gets her no respect. Sad. Oh and he’s wrong about Whitney Houston. She had an incredibly beautiful, strong voice (pre-drugs), but she only had a 3 octave range.

    • Kiddo says:

      Christina is incredibly talented.

    • Jessica says:

I feel like Christina’s career has really been affected by coming up at the same time as Britney and that type of pop music. She got shoved into that same box. She has an amazing voice that can cross genres, but it doesn’t really work for standard pop songs. She’s either restraining herself or it’s just too much for the type of song she’s singing.

I think when she’s older and can’t do the pop star thing anymore she’s going to finally be amazing.

      • Hannah says:

Yes Christina can sing but Christina hasn’t made a good cd for 10 years that’s why her career suffers. Those other women has a better or more sustained body of work commercially. I also feel like she lacks soulfulness at times. It’s like a highly trained singer doing scales just because she can sometimes. While you admire her skill it’s not something that moves you in any way.

      • Otaku fairy says:

I thought bionic sucked (only a few of the songs were good and actually sounded like her) but that lotus was actually pretty good. But with both albums she seemed to completely abandon the projects once the first singles weren’t very successful. And Your body should have never been the first single. As an artist she also seems to lack the ambition and thirst she had during her youngest days.

      • Emma - The JP Lover says:

@Jessica, who wrote: “I feel like Christina’s career has really been affected by coming up at the same time as Britney and that type of pop music. She got shoved into that same box. She has an amazing voice that can cross genres,”

I totally agree with you on this. Christina has said that she was forced to do the ‘pop music’ thing on her first album (which I still LOVE, every song is wonderful, not just “Genie in a Bottle”) and her second album “Stripped” was kind of a rebellion of that, and is closer to her natural style. I think she is a natural R & B and Blues singer, but her ballads are incredible (“Beautiful” is a sterling example).

Did you know that Christina Aguilera, Ricky Martin, and Britney Spears each release their debut albums during the same year? All three were nominated for the “Best New Artist” Grammy. Britney and Ricky Martin were both invited to perform during the Grammy’s that year because they were so popular and everyone thought one of them would win “Best New Artist.” Christina was not invited to perform and no one thought she’d win (the camera kept going back and forth from Britney and Ricky back stage). That’s why the audience went wild with applause when Christina won the “Best New Artist” Grammy over Britney and Ricky Martin. I was shocked and went wild with applause myself, because she deserved the Grammy. Heck, even ‘Christina’ was shocked. She was seated alone in the audience with her Manager. 🙂

    • Chichi says:

Christina suffers from the same problems as Arriana Grande.

      1) No soul to the big voice, which just makes their work feel inauthentic. A big voice with no soul behind it eventually just grates at the ears.

      2) Undisguised bad attitude before they have earned their True Diva stripes. Puts off the casual listener.

      • Kiddo says:

I see what you’re saying. I felt like there were times where her singing was an exercise in demonstrating capabilities, rather than from the heart. But Brittany didn’t have the heart or voice, either, really. She made it big with the Lolita angle like Ariana Grande, even though Ariana has more of a voice (she is a jerk personality-wise).

      • Bridget says:

Some of Christian’s work is excellent, but she spent too many years trying on different personalities to capture some sort of mojo. It isn’t that her singing lacked soul, so much as the package itself felt inauthentic.

And Ariana Grande has a big voice, but mumbles her words and gets chintsy songs (I’m guessing the fact that she’s an a-hole plays into that one).

      • Otaku fairy says:

I do think Christina sings with soul and emotion. With Ariana, I’d like to see her use more range and promote more ballady songs instead of just the dance pop songs on her next album. Both of them also need makeovers.

      • Grant says:

Ariana has chintsy songs? She had some of the biggest songs of 2014/2015…

Christina has a great voice but she has terrible vocal technique. She also has trouble with enunciation, much like Ms. Grande. That being said, Ariana and Christina are both so far and away superior to almost all of their peers vocally that they deserve some props for actually being pop stars with legitimate talent.

      • Artemis says:

Stripped was the best thing that happened to me in my tween years! And the album holds up too. I still cry when I hear her her ‘Stripped’ ballads. When she sang about her abuse and insecurities, there is more plenty of soul and it isn’t manufactured.
She also sang about feminism way before it was cool which sparked many (somewhat silly) debates when I was a tween.

People judge her for her flops in recent years but she was stellar for quite a while in her early days.

And she reinvented herself successfully several times. Bionic was the beginning of the end really.

      • Emma - The JP Lover says:

@Artemis, who wrote: “Stripped was the best thing that happened to me in my tween years! And the album holds up too. I still cry when I hear her her ‘Stripped’ ballads. When she sang about her abuse and insecurities, there is more plenty of soul and it isn’t manufactured. I was 47-years-old when “Stripped” was released, and I still pull it out to listen to when I write. It was a revealing look at her life, the abuse her Mom suffered from her Dad–who is Ecuadorian, and discovering love, and exploring her sexuality. “Stripped” is a great ‘coming of age’ album. She co-wrote many of the songs on “Stripped” and the emotion is incredible.

I think she suffered from getting a ‘skank’ label from her “Dirrty” video. It’s a shame, because Britney has danced far more provocatively in her videos, but everyone (unfortunately) thought “Dirrty” was about sex, when it’s about dancing instead (just listen to the lyrics). “Dirrty” is about being at one of those after hour dance-party clubs that were popular in the late 90’s-early 2000’s and popped up in old warehouses and such.

I also think she suffers from her dual heritage much like Lenny Kravitz did when he first tried to break into the music business. Nobody knew what to do with him. He was a mixed race (black and white) man who played rock music. He was told he was too black to do rock music, because white kids wouldn’t ‘get’ him … and he was told that he was too white to do R & B, because black kids wouldn’t ‘get’ him. He finally lucked up and found someone in the music business who just let him be himself, and the rest is history. Christina was born with blue eyes and blond hair, but she has her father’s Latin surname.

There is also this. I wish I could remember where I read this as it was pulled from a Christina Aguilera interview. She wasn’t liked in high school and was beat up by some of the other girls. She was a senior in high school when her first album was released. At her Prom, when the DJ played “Genie in a Bottle” everyone walked off the dance floor. I couldn’t even imagine how I’d feel if it were me and I witnessed people doing that to one of my songs.

      • Bridget says:

@Grant: yes, chintsy. All her songs sound like leftovers that other artists rejected. And are you really trying to say that a short period of success is indicative of quality? Because can I point out who else had a great 2014: Iggy Azalea.

    • lucy2 says:

I think she’s one of the most talented out there, but has never found the right angle for her career. I think she has a lot of issues and attitude problems that hold her back.

    • littlestar says:

How many octaves can Celine Dion sing? Don’t forget the Canadian cheese.

      • Emma - The JP Lover says:

@Littlestar, who wrote: “How many octaves can Celine Dion sing?”

Like Whitney Houston, Celine also has a very powerful, beautiful 3-octave voice range.

  10. Vampi says:

He looks like Robin Thicke’s cro-magnon twin brother. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. (yes. yes there is.)

  11. LAK says:

Public compliments to Mariah are like Diamonds to Elizabeth Taylor. The more you give, the better the results.

  12. Imo says:

Awww I love that he loves her voice. Team hot mess Mariah fo-eva.
I know some people make fun of her and her eccentricities but she’s an icon in that Elizabeth Taylor over the top way that is priceless. She’ll be wobbling around on yachts until she’s 70 – wearing silk caftans, Jimmy Choos, sloshing cosmopolitans, cradling a neurotic Yorkie and thinking how great she looks for a 55 year old.

    • Minnieder says:

Instead of a cosmopolitan in one hand, I’m picturing her just saying “screw it” and wandering about with a bottle of champagne in one hand. Less breaks for refills!

    • Keaton says:

My thoughts exactly I love her. I find her amusing. I don’t give an eff

    • Jessica says:

I don’t know, I always feel a bit sorry for Mariah. Elizabeth was eccentric but she was a tough lady with a decent grip on reality (for a celebrity). Mariah on the other hand seems like she needs to be kept in this state of delusion in order to function, and even with that she’s not functioning particularly well.

    • Imo says:

And let’s not forget that when Mariah’s sister was going through extensive drug treatments it was Mariah who kept her niece and nephew and provided very well for their upbringing. At one point the sister went to the media with poor me stories about how Mariah was rich and famous and refused to acknowledge her. But Mariah was quick to provide the receipts. She had provided top notch rehab services for her sister on numerous occasions. The daycare was interviewed and they told story after story about how involved Mariah was with the children and everything they needed was well provided for.

      • Muhammad says:

@Imo, you must be talking about someone else. Because back in 1994 Alison had a grown son just starting college and an 8 year old boy. She went to the media because their mother Patricia refused to return him to Alison after a visit. She went to the police. Police said it was a domestic matter. Alison eventually lost custody of him. Mariah didn’t raise the two (Shawn and Michael), Patricia did. Shawn is only five years younger than Mariah.

And Alison didn’t just complain about Mariah. Oh no. She said Mariah was raised to say she wasn’t black and was ashamed to be seen with their black father, Patricia was a terrible mother who used to leave Mariah home by herself when she was a young child, Morgan (the brother) had violent tendencies who punched their mother and set the house on fire, Mariah’s high school boyfriend was an older guy who was a bouncer and drug dealer who Mariah visited while he was in jail on drug charges, met Derek Jeter in 1996 and started having an affair etc. It was about to go down, but Mariah and Alison came to some agreement in 1995/1995, and she’s remained quiet on these type of stories ever since.

Alison does have a daughter and another son, but they were born in the late 90s, and by that time the whole family had shunned Alison. She said recently that Mariah has met the younger two once, five years ago.

    • It'sJustBlanche says:

I love her. And I sort of love them together because they seem like such a mess. A friend of mine who does VIP tours at Disneyland told me that when she’s in the park, she has to be belted into Dumbo and or any other ride. And you’re not supposed to look at her while you do it. Any other celebrity just puts the belt on herself, but not her.

    • Otaku fairy says:

Even now at 45 she looks like she’s in her 30s, so you’re probably right. She’ll probably look younger than she is when she’s 70.

  13. bellebottomblues says:

    aww IMO…lol
made me spit out my coffee!

  14. Jazz says:

Says the dude who looks like Shrek!

  15. Snowpea says:

Showmance fo shizzle because they have literally no chemistry. Nada.

  16. Lucy2 says:

Madonna may not be able to sing five octaves, but I bet she can walk in a straight line without falling over. Mariah…not so much.

  17. GiGi says:

    Madonna can’t sing one octave.

    • Kiddo says:

      Haha

    • Jayna says:

Madonna can sing. She performed at the Oscars twice.

Beautiful performance. I love Madonna’s tone to her voice when she gives a sh t about singing, which she doesn’t always.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kJGhKEMtjU

      • RainbowBrite says:

True. I get people dissing Madonna’s antics. But I don’t get people dissing her as a singer. She has a very clear and strong voice. She can sing. No one can take that from her.

      • Kiddo says:

She can sing adequately, but she’s not a ‘voice’, more so a performer with good studio tracks. That doesn’t take away from her, but she is not in the same category with past Mariah, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, etc. Just like Bob Dylan was a good writer, with an interesting sound, KWIM? No one will ever accuse him of being a great singer.

    • Jessica says:

      Lol. I agree

  18. Nev says:

Madonna is still one of the greatest performers/icons of our time. I don’t really
need her to sing five octaves. Haha

  19. Dash says:

I love this couple. It won’t be long before the Australian press start calling her an “honorary Aussie”, a title held by people like Pink and the Madden brothers. I really want them to get married.

  20. Cara says:

Well, neither can Mariah now, so specious argument…

  21. Ankhel says:

” My horse was a good purchase. None of those other horses have won as many derbys. General von Polcourt does not finish as well as she does, Salazar IV lacks the stamina. Look at my trophies, I will only have the best.”

This is all I can hear when Packer talks about his girlfriend.

    • Imo says:

Perhaps but he seems to prefer long term relationships and reportedly treats them very well. He can’t help he has a type.

      • Ankhel says:

Oh, I never meant to imply he treats his girlfriends badly. It’s just that the way he brags about his favourite trophy girl is over the top and funny.

    • Liberty says:

      Lol!! I can hear it!!!

  22. Talie says:

Mariah can’t get to 5 octaves anymore

  23. Skins says:

These two are just flat out creepy

    • EM says:

All people with too much money than sense are creepy. They look mismatched in all kinds of ways. If they were ‘poor’ [poorer], they’d be a hot mess, but because they’re so loaded, they’re a messy ensemble. A bit like wearing capri pants with Crocs.
All I can say is that I’m happy about the Rafael Nadal advert for undies for Hilfiger at the end of the post. I needed that after seeing Jammar [Jamie and Mariah], or Marjam?

  24. RainbowBrite says:

I like Mariah and still have many of her singles on ‘cassingles’ cassettes in storage. But clearly she has a gripe against Madonna because being an Aussie I can tell you Packer has never given a shit before about music or musicians. For him to make that ‘5 octave’ comment (and I doubt he even knew what an octave was before Mariah explained it to him) shows that Mariah must have been talking to him about the industry.

  25. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Ugh. Maria. After everything she has accomplished, she could be so great. A great example to kids, she could help so many people. But she’s just this delusional, aging brat who needs constant, if insincere, praise while she stuffs herself into another tacky ensemble. I will never understand how any man could put up with her for five seconds.

    • AlmondJoy says:

Aww GNAT 😩 this is one of the first times I’ve ever disagreed with you! *runs away in tears*

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Don’t cry, little friend. Maybe I’m wrong. Is she nice? I hate to make you unhappy more than I dislike Mariah. So I will give her another chance if you like her. 💔💔💔
        #madealmondjoycry #goingtohell

      • AlmondJoy says:

Your hashtags have me over here cracking up! 😂😂😂 I think she’s difficult of course. A bit of a diva and kooky as all get out… But I’ve heard she has a huge heart and makes tons of quiet donations to children’s hospitals as well as regular visits. I’m a sucker for kids so I admit I have a soft spot for Mariah. Thanks for giving her another chance!! Our friendship can continue, yesss!

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

        Whew! Dodged a bullet! #Mariahrules

      • paranormalgirl says:

GNAT (and Almond Joy): I was on the board of the Fresh Air Fund for awhile and did a lot of work for them… Mariah was also on the board (she still is) and worked tirelessly for them. She was always nice and very involved with the kids at Camp Mariah (which is the career awareness program for older kids). She’s a bit flaky and kind of “out there” but she really cares and doesn’t just throw money at the Fund, she gives her time.

Don’t know anything about her in any other other capacity, though. She could be horrid in other aspects of her life.

    • Shitler says:

      GNAT
You were absolutely right in your assessment. Great talent in her youth but horrid personality.
A poster here on CB once told a story abouy how when she was 13 she won a competition to meet Mariah Carey. Not remembering everything she posted but she said Mariah threw ice cubes at her. She’s trash.

  26. FingerBinger says:

Madonna isn’t a great singer. She never has been. Madonna has said that herself. James Packer must think he’s insulting her.

  27. AlmondJoy says:

Well… He is correct. But Madonna is more of a performer, while Mariah is a SANGER. So I believe they’re in two different lanes. Both iconic though.

  28. someone says:

Does anyone actually find the higher two octaves pleasant to listen to? To me it’s like shrieking cats. I like Carrie Underwood but sometimes her upper octaves get into cat territory as well. And Ariana Grande.

  29. Pondering thoughts says:

Well, billionaires are notoriously private. If this one praises his gf in public after just a few monthes of dating and way long before getting married… I wonder how long it will last.

Anyway, Packer has some new casinos opening soon … dicaprio and scorsese and de niro made that commerical. Mariah singing at his casino for the opening?

  30. Tacos and TV says:

The front page photo of him looks like Robin Thicke… lol.

  31. Fifedogg says:

I would write and sing/perform a song titled “5 Octaves” if I were Madonna.

  32. Pinky Rose says:

Mimi and James are too perfect for each other. Hope they stay together for a while.

  33. Jonesy says:

All this Mariah talk makes me want to listen to “Vision of Love.” Nobody sings like she did back then!

  34. Amanda G says:

Has Mariah even been able to sing 5 octaves in the last 15 years? She was amazing in the 90’s, but her voice declined pretty quick. It’s too bad.

  35. Liberty says:

My grandma used to wave her thimble and say in her French accent, Ah there’s someone for everyone!

    This is what she meant.

  36. TOPgirl says:

For once in her life…she actually looks really happy! I’m happy for her. She looks great with him and I hope they continue their relationship.

  37. Jayna says:

I don’t have any album of Mariah’s because her vocals grate on me after more than a few songs. I think I bought her last album and deleted it because I was out of space on my iPod. I gave away two other albums of hers after listening a few times. I own some songs of hers.

I own a lot of Madonna’s, most of it. There’s something about the recognizable tone in her voice I love on so many songs and the songs themselves. She’s eclectic in her pop/electronica music.

I’m over Madonna now, but not Madonna before 2009. I still love that Madonna, all incarnations of her. I can separate it and remember her when.

  38. Charles says:

He sounds butthurt because Madonna is the best selling female artist of all time.

  39. Lillylizard says:

Mariah can’t sing 5 octaves either. She may be able to hit notes 5 octaves apart but that doesn’t mean she has a 5octave voice, for that you have to be able to hit every half note pitch perfect in a scale. The worlds finest sopranos rarey have more than a 3 to 4octave range. Even the amazing Yma Sumac topped out at 4 and a half octaves.

He’s only stating the obvious. And? He’s nothing special. He inherited everything he has. He only has to sit on his posterior for the money to roll in, as usual.
At least Mariah has achievements she earned herself.

When was the last time Mariah hit five octives on purpose? She can’t anymore and hasn’t been able to for a decade. Sure she has more hits and she had a broader vocal range than many of her counterparts, but I don’t remember Mariah writing her songs as this guys claims. Mariah has writers and she collaborated with a lot of rappers on their songs the past decade. If memory serves me correct, Madonna wrote all her own sh!t, danced, choreographed, and re-imagined herself numerous times and all without having to have an affair with and marry her producer (which split up a family, BTW). Madonna aint no angel, but she’s never claimed to be, while ironically, the elusive chanteuse has put out that very image and it is she who slept her way to the top, has been ridiculously unprofessional in regards to showing up on time, being prepared and having a basic sensativity for other people’s time and money? I used to be a big fan, but not for quite awhile. Anybody who has to be carried and have their hand held every time they walk loses some respect from me. She’s become the ultimate diva and it isnt’ anything to brag about.

And PLEASE STOP with your boobs out there. It’s old, it’s played, it’s predictable. For the love of God, surprise us and do something different.

You may not remember it, but she did. She has made it a point to remind audiences that she is a songwriter.

People tend to praise Mariah for her vocal range, but her writing and producing credits are seriously impressive on their own, too. She cowrote 17 of her 18 #1 singles (and her songs are all much more unified in terms of themes, language, musical structure, etc. than say, Beyonce, so I’m inclined to believe that she’s actually wrote them, not that she was just in the room) and she coproduced 14 of them (including the long song she didn’t write.)

I’m not even a Mariah superfan but I just think it’s silly to try to refute her involvement in the creative process.

it always cracks me up when people talk about singers like Mariah Carey having a “five-octave vocal range” – when that doesn’t even exist. This is where music education is so vital…

I work with some of the best opera singers in the business, and none of us posses a vocal range that goes beyond three (very few voices, usually sopranos, of the past possessed four octaves, but even that was stretching it) octaves.

It goes like this: an octave is eight notes, so C4 (middle C on the piano) to C5 is an octave, with all of the notes in between as part of that octave. For someone to have a five-octave range, tha would mean they could sing almost every single note on a piano, which is 88 keys for a standard piano.
