I totally forgot that this ^^ happened. Kim Kardashian posted this photo back in January, and it’s widely believed that President Obama met Kanye and Kim back in October 2014 at some event. He even signed the photo and personalized with a message about baby North West, because North is everybody’s favorite member of the Kardashian-West clan.
Anyway, Kanye and Pres. Obama have kind of a convoluted history. I’m pulling this from memory, so here goes: they’re both Chicago guys and I seem to remember Kanye being an Obama supporter early on, probably from when Obama was a senator or maybe even earlier. Within Pres. Obama’s first year in the Oval Office, Kanye threw down his “Imma let you finish” on Taylor Swift and when Obama was asked about it, he called Kanye a “jackass.” Kanye responded by calling out Obama in a few songs. Obama responded by reiterating the fact that Kanye is a jackass (TRUTH!) but that Yeezy is “talented” (although in a side-by-side, Obama picked Jay-Z as his favorite). At some point, they did bury the hatchet although you have to admit, that was a pretty baller POTUS-beef and Kanye-beef.
So, long story short, Kanye has agreed to perform at a DNC fundraiser next month that Obama will attend. The DNC has a list of restrictions for future President Yeezus.
Kanye West, who says he’s plotting his own 2020 presidential bid, will perform at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser in San Francisco attended by President Obama on Oct. 10. But don’t expect West to unleash one of his rants: He’ll be required to stick to performance only.
A source said, “There will be restrictions . . . Kanye won’t be able to lecture the president about how to run the country.”
West will debut songs from his next album, “Swish,” at the event, for which tickets cost up to $10,000.
DNC member Robert Zimmerman quipped, “Kanye will be an exciting draw, especially compared to the Republicans booking Wayne Newton or Clint Eastwood. We all know how well that turned out.”
That is one thing going for the Democratic Party – they always get the cooler celebrities. I have to say though… I think this fundraiser is going to end in tears and drama. Kanye is totally going to stop mid-song and rant about how He Is The New Walt Disney and how President Obama Doesn’t Respect Artists, #NoDisrespectToBenCarson. But even if and when that happens, Pres. Obama will lean over to Michelle and say, “God, what a jackass” and chuckle to himself.

Not that I’m totally excusing POTUS from taking a pic with these two, but if they paid for a certain ticket price, then they get to have their picture with the guest of honor. Then, at times, for an extra fee or ticket level the politician/guest of honor at a political event will personalize the photo with a message instead of the standard auto-pen signature. Just throwing that out there. 🙂
This POTUS preaches about many things yet has trash like these D listers at the White House. I remember Obama said Kim K and Kanye West are bad role models to children but then he takes a pic with them and invites Kanye to perfom at a DNC fundraiser? This man is one of the worst presidents we have ever have
@ Lizzy, doesn’t matter how much Kim and Kanye paid, why would any politician, espcially one like Obam who has a very bad public image, want to tarnish his image even further by hanging arounf and taking pics with them? Hilary is no better either. This is what makes people turn the other direction. I hate to say it, but I will bet you that our next POTUS will be a Republican because of things like this. Kim K is a woman who catapulted to fame and riches due to a sex tape. Yet the Dems hang around her and her husband for some strange reason.
@Adriana – My point is that it’s typical political crap. And whoever the fundraiser was for that event should have known better. But in many circles money is money. They don’t care where it comes from. And that’s on both sides of the aisle.
Why invite Kanye to such a serious event when you know what a wild card he is? Scratch that, why invite Kanye to put him on a leash? Kanye without a rant is like an ocean with no water, utterly meaningless.
They want the drama and a cameo on KUWTK.

Absolutely. It has become an issue of style over substance lately. The DNC is looking for attention with this move. When it backfires on them, I will laugh.

I’m an independent who holds both parties in equal contempt. America is the ONLY country where you only get two choices. It’s ridiculous. How on earth can you divide an entire nation of extraordinarily diverse people into TWO schools of thought? Shaking my head forever at the American political structure.
@Katija its no better here in Canada where we have 3 center-left parties to split the vote so that our version of the teabaggers keep getting in by default. With another election looming, I’m feeling quite terrified and I swear if they get in again I’m quitting with politics.

I work in PR and I’m trying to wrap my head around what in God’s name the organizers are thinking here. Like – did Springsteen and the entire E Street band DIE? Surely that would have been on the news, right?
The Democrats can find literally ANYONE – huge names – to perform. If Kanye were an inexplicable Republican a la 50 Cent, I’d understand booking him at an RNC event, because they’re desperate and the risk is worth the reward (AKA the young vote). But the risk here is not worth the reward. If Kanye decides to Yeezus it up, the DNC will be in a position where their only choice is to silence a black man and look biased, or let him finish and look weak – similar to what happened when those two girls interrupted Bernie. They’re was no good way for him to handle it.
This is such a bad, bad, bad idea. The Democrats have hundreds of incredibly famous potential performers at their disposal. Artists of all races, nationalities, religions and colors and creeds. And of ALL the people, they book the wildest card with a ridiculous high amount of risk. This isn’t a performer who can be kooky but knows when to STFU. This is someone who simply considers no situation off-limits.
