Adele, our new musical overlord, confirms ‘SNL’ spot & BBC One special

The Adele takeover is upon us. I for one welcome our new Adele overlord. As I discussed yesterday – which was the whole point of the post, even if some Taylor Swift fans are butthurt about it – Adele’s single “Hello” is smashing every record out there, many of the records set by Taylor Swift in particular. Not only did Adele break Taylor’s Vevo record for most-watched video in a 24-hour period, the single broke Spotify streaming records, and it’s on track to make history as the most downloaded song in America in a one-week period.

Adele’s album, 25, doesn’t even come out until November 20th and it’s already breaking pre-order records too, because ADELE. The day after Adele’s album drops, she will be appearing on Saturday Night Live. This won’t be her first time on SNL – she appeared on the show in 2008 for her first album, 19, and she hit iTunes’ #1 spot the next day. At this point, it’s not even like Adele NEEDS to promote the album. She just has to release it and it will break all of the records. But I enjoy the fact that she’s still going to shill like a normal artist anyway. On the November 21st episode of SNL, Adele is only going to be the musical guest. Matthew McConaughey is the host. But I would imagine that the writers will try to work Adele into a few skits, don’t you?

It was widely reported that Adele had inked a deal for a series of exclusives with NBC, with the SNL appearance being one of the big ones. It’s also believed that she’ll perform on the Tonight Show and perhaps do an interview/performance on Today. In addition to the American leg of her promotional tour, it was just announced that she’ll sit down for an hour-long special on BBC One with Graham Norton. It will be taped in front of a live audience on November 2, and I’m assuming it will air before Adele’s appearances in America. The special will be called “Adele at the BBC” and she’s jazzed about it: “I can’t wait. Graham and I get on great so it’s going to be a laugh.” Back in 2011, Adele appeared on the Graham Norton Show and that episode is still hilarious and amazing to watch. Everyone on the couch and everyone in the audience just fell in love with her.

There has never been a more appropriate time for a YAS QUEEN!!!

Also this whole dropping-albums-on-Fridays-thing now is nice. I like it. That’s all.

    I like that 🙂

I love Adele. The woman has talent coming out of her ears! So happy she’s getting this huge welcome back. She’s truly been missed.

My musical overlord has always been Chrisette Michele. Not sure if any of you are aware of her but she’s amazing.

Very happy that her music is available in Spotify. I pay for that so I’m not paying for anything else. That’s why I don’t know anything about Swifty’s latest album and I’m ok with that 😊.

I don’t really get the hype. I mean, I love her personality, I think she’s beautiful, but her music just doesn’t wow me so much. It’s fine, but nothing so mindblowong.

She has an amazing voice, but I have to agree with you…all of her songs do nothing for me…it’s all about a sobbing broken heart.
Except maybe “Rollling in the deep”.

I don’t love all of her music but adore her. She has talent + really seems grounded with a wicked sense of humor. I’d rather support that than some of the others out there.

Love them both so really looking forward to Adele and Graham Norton.

I seriously enjoy the Graham Norton Show. Even the least interesting celebrity becomes interesting on that couch/in that set up.

Graham seems to have the perfect formula for making his guests feel relaxed, and for interviewing them with a certain devil may care attitude. All his guests seem to enter into the general bonhomie, and there are always interesting snippets of information that come out over the course of the show. Of course I think the free bar helps.

i hope no one asks her about feminism coz i’m afraid if she said something really shady i won’t like her anymore.

        or she might surprise us.

I havent seen him/his show before. Could he and his style be compared to Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live? Just trying to think of a host making a guest feel comfortable and have it be fun/no-pressure like you’re describing..

      • antipodean says:

WCM, I don’t think you could really compare Graham’s show to anything in the States, he is really too original. Your best bet would be to access BBC TV and watch him in action. Not sure if the humour is always translatable, but you only have to see how much the guests, and the audience, are enjoying themselves, to want to join in the fun and games. It’s very infectious.

Yay for her returning to SNL! I stumbled across Hometown Glory ages ago and loved it, and then was thrilled to see her on SNL sometime later. It’s amazing how much her career has blown up since then. Someone I knew then complained he had no idea who she was when first on SNL, and I remember saying “you will!”

i wish she’d do another one with Alan Carr,
maybe because they’re friends they get on like a house on fire. or, a pitch dark house shat on by Louie.
