  1. Laura says:

It is not legal to use heroin in ireland. They are considering decriminalising it so addicts caught with small amounts can be sent to rehab instead of jail.

But ya abortion is still illegal unless you go to Northern Ireland.

    • Zapp Brannigan says:

Yeah it also puts addicts into contact with health professionals in the proposed centers on an ongoing basis, previous studies in Switzerland showed a reduction in use and crime rates. We will see in time I suppose.

Also go to Northern Ireland for abortion but come to the Republic for gay marriage, we are a small, very confused landmass.

    • Ninks says:

Actually, Abortion is also criminalised in the North, unless in very exceptional circumstances. And the punishment for procuring an abortion in the North is harsher than in Ireland. You can be imprisoned for 14 years for importing and using medication to induce an abortion in the North. A woman living on the island of Ireland, who wants to have an abortion has to travel abroad. Over 4,000 women with an Irish address have a termination in England every year. Other use the address of friends or relatives. This is down from 9,000 a year in 2003 as many women now purchase pills online. Other women travel to the European mainland such as the Netherlands to have an abortion. Because of the time and financial cost it takes to travel abroad to have the procedure done, Irish women tend to have their abortions later in their pregnancies which increase the cost, and the risk to their own health.

The treatment of Irish women is barbaric.

    • Lurker says:

Exactly! I’m kind of appalled at the superiority in that headline, to be honest. Ireland has come a long LONG way in 20 or so years (we have a lot further to go in the area of reproductive rights, obviously) but to hear Americans go on, we’re backwards idiots, who need to be condescended to. It’s fecking offensive.

I’m after travelling in the US for a few months for work, and I’m dreading going back. I got so much hilarious ignorance, and people repeating everything I say in a comedy Irish accent. Hey, yanks, quit it. Sort out your own backyard.

*GOD, I needed a good rant!*

      • Kitten says:

Look at you! So butt-hurt about criticisms of your country! So needlessly patriotic!

(Completely kidding but that’s what people would tell you if you were American)

I spent a couple weeks in Ireland and loved every second of it. Yes I got teased for my American (Boston?) accent but it didn’t phase me at all.

Sorry your experience sucked but it’s not cool when people paint Europe with a broad brush, right? Well the USA is a large and diverse land mass (just like EU) that encompasses a lot of different cultures, political stances, mindsets, and well..people. So maybe chill with the generalizations and you’ll enjoy your inevitable next visit much more, no?

      • morc says:

Not quite, US is one country, Europe is 27+.

      • TotallyBiased says:

US is 50 states that would all be separate countries if they could! 😉
Okay, maybe not all. But there’s a reason it’s the Republic of Texas!

      • Lindy79 says:

I do agree we’ve come a long way, I can’t put into words how proud I am that our tiny little country was the first in the world to vote in marriage for same sex couples through popular vote, but we have a HELLUVA log way to go, especially on the topics of womens health and family planning. We seriously need to lose that Church mentality when it comes to medical decisions. *stops before a full scale rant starts*

(as an aside, I’ve been to various parts of the US and never really had such a negative reaction as you have…yes people trying to do out accent is annoying but hey-ho I just laugh and have a joke with them about it)

  2. ZombieRick says:

Omg…..cannot believe it…..way to go Ariana.

    • anna says:

right? i immensely enjoyed the way she stands her ground here.
      you go, girl!

    • Katie says:

I can’t stand her normally but it I gotta hand it to her here. Those guys were completely immature a€€hats and she handled them very swiftly.

  3. yoyoyo123 says:

Those hosts were being jerks, I’m glad that she corrected them!

  4. word says:

Hey good for her. I see just as many men clinging to their cell phones as I see women. That DJ sounded like he came out of a time machine from 1950. I’m glad she put him in his place though.

    • pinetree13 says:

AGREED! What the heck! Man are just as bad…in fact I see MORE men texting while driving than women (who also do it and the behaviour disgusts me…so dangerous). First time I’ve ever felt proud of Ariana. WHO KNEW THAT COULD HAPPEN?!?!?!

  5. Fluff says:

    Good for her, for once.

  6. Lurker says:

The KFC buffet thing isn’t new. There’s one in a town about an hour from where I live. Weyburn Saskatchewan you can get KFC buffet. It’s been there for years.

  7. Loopy says:

As much as those guys were complete fools, not quite convinced at Ariana she obviously got some coaching since her foolishness was exposed does not seem genuine at all,but baby steps.

    • tealily says:

I don’t see what being scolded for licking donuts has to do with calling out sexism.

    • Grant says:

I disagree. She posted that long, well-thought out diatribe about feminism a few months ago. I think this was totally genuine.

  8. pinetree13 says:

I am really glad she called them out. Shocked that she was the one to do it. But seriously…most would have just gone along with it. They were being sexist jerks. More people need to realize that kind of Radio DJ banter is harmful as it promotes that sexism is okay because women really are inferior only ever thinking about their phones, makeup and boys. That interview made my blood boil.

  9. antipodean says:

Don’t want to thread jack or anything, but did anyone see where Kate Major and Michael Lohan had there children removed by the Miami Childrens’ Services. Those poor wee tykes are on the same path as his other dysfunctional offspring. Some people should not be allowed to breed.

    • tealily says:

      Wow, missed that completely.

    • lucy2 says:

Yes, I saw that too. I didn’t even realize they had little kids. Considering what a stellar job he did with his first round, you’d think he’d want no parts of it, or that any woman would want any parts of him.

  10. Lou says:

Ugh, i cannot stand guys like that. I go to evening classes and the male tutor keeps saying dumb crap like ‘ooh women can’t make their mind up’ or whatever. It’s really made me start cringing every time he comes near… that, and he’s a crap teacher

  11. tealily says:

Courtney Stodden! God, I’ve missed her.

  12. Kitten says:

WHO CARES ABOUT ANYTHING WHEN THERE ARE PICTURES OF LLAMAS IN COSTUMES????
    I ♥ me some llamas!!

  13. melior says:

Wow I loved her reactions. Wasn’t expecting this from her at all. Goes to show that the perception we have of entertainers is often skewed.

  14. MND says:

If you want a good feminism story Google Michelle Payne. Yesterday she became the first woman in history to win the prestigious Melbourne Cup horse race. This is an annual race that has been going since 1861. She also took the opportunity in her post race interview to take a swipe at chauvinism in the sport.

    • TotallyBiased says:

Well done, her! Thank you for this edifying note!

    • antipodean says:

I saw that too. One in the eye for the Aussie jokers. Apparently there was a very strong faction who didn’t want a woman jockey in the race. She had to fight very hard to get a place. Wonderful turn up for the books, SHE WON! And her gorgeous brother was her charming strapper! Yee Haa.

  15. Ann says:

Yeah, that’s the casual sexism so many women will put up with day in, day out. Good for her for not having it.
