Khloe Kardashian appeared on The Ellen Show on Friday. It was a pre-scheduled appearance to promote her book, and it’s looking more and more like Khloe barely canceled any of her appearances for her book. I’m not sure how I feel about that, but I do think it’s possible that Lamar Odom really did tell Khloe to leave him alone at the hospital. Maybe? I don’t even know at this point. Everyone’s got a different story and different sites are running different exclusives.
When Ellen DeGeneres asked Khloe about Lamar, Khloe was sort of all over the place too. Khloe says that Lamar doesn’t know why he’s in the hospital and he doesn’t ask why either. Khloe also said: “He’s really confused a lot — sometimes he knows who the president is and his birthday, and sometimes he thinks he’s 26, and I say, ‘I bet you wish you were 26, so do I!’” Khloe also joked that she’s “part of polygamy now” because she has a husband and a boyfriend (James Harden). If it sounds like Khloe is skirting around the idea that Lamar has significant brain damage and severe aphasia, you’re probably correct. I’m going to give Khloe the benefit of the doubt and say that she’s trying to be positive about Lamar’s condition privately and publicly, plus it’s not really our business to know exactly how he’s doing. Still, TMZ put Lamar’s situation in harsher terms:
Lamar Odom’s in rough shape — having a tough time with communication and mobility — and we’re told it’s so bad, he can’t recognize some close friends and family. Our sources tell us Lamar has made little progression in the last couple weeks. We’re told he’s only able to speak a word here and there, and at times he seems “empty.”
The scariest part … Lamar can’t recognize longtime friends and even family members when they come to visit. We’re told docs believe he’s suffered significant brain damage.
Yeah, this is probably true. We can’t even get a confirmation on whether he’s walking, you know? It sounds like some days are better than others and he’s still got a long road to recovery ahead of him.

If he does have brain damage he could be very difficult, understandably. I’m sure that must be enraging and scary. He could have told her to leave him alone, and honestly, I’m not sure what good it would do for her to stay by his side if he doesn’t want her there.
If you want to have an idea of what he is like, watch the HBO documentary “Coma”. You will come away with an understanding for sure. It’s on “on demand”. I wonder if Khloe saw the pictures of her press tour and decided to lose the loopy upper lip, overboard makeup, and overboard Botox. She looks like a caricature of who she was.
I go back and forth about Khloé and her role here. I do believe she really cared about him when they were together, but yet when he waited outside her gym not long ago to try to talk to her she seemed (to me) to go all dramatic/ballistic on him and actually CREATE the situation she was accusing him of, as if she needed/wanted some drama for the press. She treated it like an ambush, rather than Lamar (as HE claimed) merely trying to talk to her. Maybe he was drugging again and was stoned out of his mind? Dunno. But is SHE mainlining drama again by playing the grieving and devoted wife to him since his OD? Dunno. I just think no Kardashian can resist a good drama.
Lahdidahbaby I agree w/ u. What is wrong is the stopping the divorce. Why? How legal is it when he has no frame of mind? And to hole about having a husband n boyfriend is classless. The husband should have been ex n all this bull how her family loves him as much as her? Please. They took over the 1st few weeks, made it about them, if he is so damaged then how dare Kim post saying he responded to her n her jokes that made him smile?

I’m glad someone else thinks her joking about having a husband and boyfriend at the same time is in poor taste. Especially with the condition Lamar is in.
Two things:
1) According to Khloe’s pre-nup with Lamar, she receives $1 million a year for every year of marriage, so clearly there is a conflict of interest!
2) It is just stupid that she used the word polygamist incorrectly to define her relationship.
Was “adulteress” too scandalous for her, because that’s what she should be considered, as a married woman, with a boyfriend?

I have always wondered why she didn’t have a more defined nose job. Why sneak into this? As for her lips? in the Ellen clip. She looks like she is wearing a bit of Halloween trickery on her lips. Surely she doesn’t think that anyone believes the “two shade” shellacked with gloss lip looks even human!
Maybe someone can answer this: if Lamar suffered brain damage, how did he sign papers calling off the divorce from Khloe? Wouldn’t he have to be considered mentally sound to understand what he was signing? I assume both parties have to sign papers. Something is not adding up
Exactly. And if he only can manage a word here and there I am throwing major side eye at the story that he woke up and said “Hey baby” days after falling into a coma. There is something not right at all here. It all boils down to this family having used this crisis for their own publicity machine. It’s deplorable and despicable. How indeed was a brain damaged patient able to sign legal documents? This family is the lowest of the low and should slither back beneath the slimy moldy rock from which they came out from under. They represent everything wrong with people today.
I’ve been wondering about that, too. How is that possible? If papers were signed she should keep very very quiet about this, right?
His attorney may have been able to handle the paperwork on his behalf.
But even so how is that possible? They were in the process of divorcing, so how can anyone step in and decide for a patient on such a matter? I understand if someone has been ill and has made legal arrangements to have their decisions made by either a lawyer or family representative but that wasn’t the case here. This was a sudden unexpected medical emergency. Something smells rotten here.
A couple things. TMZ published the document that was signed by both Khloe and Lamar. There also has been no mention of an attorney for him anywhere – in fact I think it was reported he had no representation when Khloe’s lawyer went to stop the divorce. I’m thinking his lawyer should have been present also. So I agree something is totally not adding up.
@swack, and what about his family? Were none of them allowed to step in on his behalf?

@Nicolette, family too, but I was commenting to Kylie’s point about the lawyer handling the paper work for stopping the divorce. Don’t think the family would or should get involved in that part of the relationship. I do believe his immediate family should have some say when it comes to medical decisions. I had to make the decision to amputate my mother’s leg at one point. I didn’t do it on my own. My one brother was in town at the time and we discussed it. He tried getting in touch with the other two for their input also.
@swack, what an awful position for you and your family to have been in. Very sorry to hear that and I hope your mom is doing well. I see what you’re saying about the divorce aspect but yes they should absolutely have a say in his medical treatment.
@nicolette, thanks. Mom passed away on Easter night, 2013 at 93 years of age. She was 90 when we had to amputate the leg above the knee. Still to this day not sure if I should have done that because she was already confined to a wheelchair and Alzheimer’s had really taken over. Did it improve her quality of life, not really and that is the part I think of the most. I know this, I will add to my living will that no body part be taken off if I cannot make the decision to do so myself. It was the hardest decision to make and I don’t want my children or grandchildren to have to make it. That being said, this situation with Lamar should give a wake up call to all that they get their lives together, have a living will (whether you want DNR or not), have a will made out and have a POA.
When my grandmother had a stroke she lost the ability to do more than say “Uf Dah” (she’s from Norway) and a few other things she’d always say. But she understood what you were saying. Wonder if it’s like that?
It’s really hard to tell. It’s best to assume that the person does understand everything said in their presence and behave accordingly. The ability to communicate can be seriously impaired when the ability to understand the speech of others may not be. He could be as confused as Khloe unwisely claims (considering that he allegedly went along with stopping the divorce, when staying married is a financial benefit for her because of the prenup), or he could just be having trouble getting the words out right.
Did your grandmother experience memory loss or did she seem to recognize her family members?

I hope his lawyer reinstates the divorce as he obviously could not have been making any major decisions and I think its a cash grab because they thought he was going to die. A lot of his buddies died recently and that plus K mess set him up for bad times! They must be on drugs too and not as rich as people think because they spend like mad…

I’m not hating on her for this. I think she’s doing the very best she can in a tough situation. It’s almost surreal – her soon to be ex husband ends up in this condition, and the whole world is watching. I don’t know that I’d do any different.
My dear old friend had a brain injury this year. He was assaulted and had bleeding in his brain. He was often confused at first and the worst part was that his personality was nowhere to be found for several weeks. Then one day it came back – his sweetness and his sense of humor. It was like a person being reborn. I feared I would never see that part of him again and it was almost like I was mourning the death of a man still alive.
All this to say, a loved one having a brain injury is so scary and hard, and maybe that’s why I just don’t judge her right now. To have that person right there in front of you, and yet they are not really there at all… it’s shattering.

Patricia, I’m with you on the tbi. I also have a very good friend who contracted viral meningitis. He was put into a drug induced coma to try to control his brain swelling. (Remember all that stuff about drug induced comas on soap operas? What a joke. A coma is a coma. Once they decide to wean the body off the barbiturates it can still be several weeks before the body decides to come back…). He was in a coma for 2 months. He had to relearn everything… Walking talking (not just words–how to use his tongue and mouth to shape sounds.) Another thing with strokes and tbi is that the sufferers lose time; they can lose from weeks to months of their most recent memories. Lamar probably can’t remember many of the things that happened most recently. My friend also had intense aphasia issues for about 6 months. There are ways that he is the same, and there are ways he will never be the same. It breaks a person’s heart.
My point is that I most disbelieved the reports about how he woke up and the supposed conversations they had. 20 strokes and he’s making long term decisions right away? Huh.
With intense medical trauma you also need a point person. Decisions have to be made all day long. If Khloe is making decisions after consulting with his family, that’s the way it should be (and truthfully HIPAA laws are very strict about who gets to make these decisions.)
Oh but Khloe, its polyandry, in your case ;-). Except you’re not married to both of them, so it’s nothing.

It sickens me that she goes on tv and talks about him. If he’s in bad shape, he can’t be consenting to having her spread news of his private situation. But then again, words that have never been spoken by any Kardashian: “I’d rather not talk about it.” I personally believe that these trolls think that by discussing other people’s personal business, they’re trying to show the world how “open and honest” they are, while they lie about obvious sh-t, like their ass implants and endless facial reconstructions.
I think she needs to be quiet about anything regarding his health. She is only allowed there because the divorce papers were not signed by a judge. If I was this sick I would be incensed that the person who should be the ex is now running around telling the world what’s wrong with me. I can only hope when his daughter turns 18 she takes over. I doubt that Khloe has his best interest in mind. How is her book selling?
I hope that his daughter asks a judge to appoint a responsible third party to advocate for Lamar and investigate the Kardashian Konnections. There are too many oddities piling up. I had been willing to believe that Khloe simply cared about him and was taking on the role he had already assigned her (and had not unassigned). But Khloe has clear financial reasons for remaining his wife at the moment, and yet they both had signed divorce documents so Lamar’s wishes were known before all this started.
Is it possible that the K Klan really is worried about what Lamar might spill about Khloe and the Koven? Maybe it’s not just about their desire to have kameras rolling 24/7 for their demonic show. It’s in their best interest for him to never recover enough to be a threat, and failing that – for him to be discredited by statements such as Khloe just made on national TV, on a show with a much bigger audience than the K shows.
Khloe has financial reasons to remain married? Really? I’m not so sure it’s for financial reasons at all and it’s about making medical decisions for him.
Tammy- if Lamar dies, Khloe will get far more money as his wife than as his ex. She could have mixed motives. Her family certainly does. I’m not even sure she has to be married to him to act in the role of making medical decisions, since he designated her as such and didn’t change it. Why would that change with divorce, if it’s separate from the automatic next of kin status of a wife? Maybe it makes it easier for her to ignore his relatives, don’t know. But there is a conflict of interest there and she herself is raising doubts about his capacity to make the decision to withdraw the divorce papers. His decision when uninjured was definitely to divorce and generally that is the basis for determining what the person would want if able to decide.
Based on some of the reports from TMZ I was under the impression that if Khloe didn’t retain power over his medical decisions it would go to his next of kin his father who has been/may still be a crack addict. Leads me to believe perhaps they made this decision jointly for the less of two evils.

If she has the tiniest bit of sensitivity (what am I saying?) for Lamar’s situation, she will shut her cake hole, and not comment further on his condition. When this initially happened I thought maybe she was trying to be a good supportive friend to Lamar. Now that it is starting to appear that the hard yards of recovery have begun, Khloe is MIA. Just about says it all for her depth of feeling for him.

My sister-in-law has permanent brain damage as a result of a car wreck. It has been a very difficult situation for the last 10 years. Her personality was completely changed by her brain damage. She had been the warmest, most loving person, and she and my brother were so happy. Now she is a harsh and angry person and her temper is frightening. My brother will never divorce her because the wreck and its’ aftermath were not her fault, but much of his life is a nightmare now. People with her type of brain damage have a tendency to lash out, and whether it is due to her own frustration or just a part of the new personality is unknown. It is absolutely heartbreaking and a huge tragedy to see what happened to a loving, vibrant woman because of a teenager who ran a stop sign. I am afraid that Lamar’s life has been just as affected, and all through his own actions. Very sad.
