Jennifer Garner at a Save The Children event: botoxy but lovely?

These are photos of Jennifer Garner at an event last night for Save The Children in NY, The Illumination Gala. Garner has supported Save The Children for years. She does a lot of work with them in her home state of West Virginia and she particularly cares about children’s literacy, so props for that.

As we saw in her last red carpet appearance, Garner got a little jab of something recently. Her forehead looks immobile and her appearance has changed somewhat. Don’t get me wrong, she looks good she just looks altered. I wish celebrity women wouldn’t do this to themselves, but I guess in the circles she runs in, this is “normal.” If all your friends are doing it, and they know this great dermatologist who “uses the lowest amount people will never tell, you’ll just look like you had a good night’s sleep,” then you’re more likely to give in too. I see a lot of ladies in Berlin with this look and with plumped up lips and I’m just glad I don’t live there full time or I might be more susceptible to it. Even with the best work, you can tell. (Many men can’t tell the difference though. I don’t mean to stereotype but the guys I know can’t tell.)

Garner was wearing a sleeveless black gown by Michael Kors with geometric mesh cutouts down the front and darting along the neckline. I like how she wore a conservative looking gown with a little cleavage showing. This is a nice balance of staid and sexy. Those gaudy 80s earrings have got to go though. I would like to see what kind of shoes she’s wearing, but they’re probably nothing to write home about.

As Red Carpet Fashion Awards points out, Olivia Wilde was also in Michael Kors but it was probably a coincidence. Her dress has those similar spear-like cutouts except they’re at the waistline. I really like this dress, I love button down black dresses and have a cute vintage one with cap sleeves I found at the Goodwill. (Holla if you shop at thrift stores!) The MK dresses at Nordstrom are around $1,500 and since these dresses are straight off the runway you can probably multiply that number a few times to get their value. Ah well, who needs designer labels? (Psst: anyone who sends me designer dresses will get a plug.)

She looks fine. Nothing crazy. After ben bs she needs a rejuv! Besides she’s no angel.

  2. kate says:

Eeek, I’m hoping whatever’s going on with that wonky eye is just badly placed Botox and not bad eye work.

Her facial features don’t suit fillers, she looks considerably older with them than without them.

    • lisa says:

ita i dont think she looks good at all

and that one eye just wished me out to the cornfield

      • Ankhel says:

Why, why do they turn their faces into weird, shiny masks? And then the wonky eyes… It just shouts middle-aged and desperate. Garner was beautiful as she was. I blame Assfleck and his young tricks.

      • frivolity says:

ITA. I like her dress, but I think her face and her hair look terrible. I think I’ve come to the outlandish conclusion that no one looks good with fillers/botox/work and that everyone looks better without it!

    • Fallon says:

I was going to say that! I feel like whatever she did actually makes her look older.

    • Nerdista says:

Tbh she’s always had a wonky eye. I think it’s a lazy eye.

  3. Kitten says:

She looks really pretty but I wish her hair was different…I think she needs more volume in the back or something. I like the reddish color though.

  4. Pandy says:

She looks great! Not seeing the botoxy thing lol. Then again, I’m botoxy, so what do I know anymore??

  5. Tim Whatley says:

Olivia Wilde has ‘Easter Island Head’

  6. Esmom says:

I like Olivia’s overall look better than Jen’s. I’m really not liking Jen’s hair, I think an undo would have complemented her dress better. Something is up with her face, her eye looks a bit wonky. The stress of being an “aging” actress Hollywood. Yuck.

  7. Dani says:

Olivia’s dress would be a win without the lace around her elbows. It just seems so out of place.

    • Cricket says:

I agree completely! Was going to add that observation as well. Kind of makes it a downstairs at the Abbey vibe.

  8. Anon33 says:

Uh yeah. She used to look fresh and pretty and now BOOM. Whatever it is has aged her.

    • Jaded says:

Try 3 kids, a difficult marriage to a world-class jerk, an affair with the nanny that got splashed all over the world and an impending divorce. Plus she’s 44 – I still think she’s a beautiful woman and people should stop harping on how she’s aged. We all age. We don’t look “fresh and pretty” after a certain point but then we gain elegance, gravitas and experience on our faces. Trying to cling desperately to youth is what ages us, not mostly natural aging which is what I see in Garner.

      • kate says:

She looked fresh a few weeks ago though. It’s a really sudden change. Natural aging doesn’t give you fuller lips, higher brows and jacked up cheeks.

  9. Susan says:

Would not have picked Olivia Wilde as taller than Jen Garner. I thought Wilde was petite and Garner was tallish. Who knew.

  10. AJ says:

Garner looks kind of like Catherine O’Hara circa Home ALone.

  11. Shambles says:

    I am I crazy?
I think she looks really beautiful. Like… She brought the va va voom. I don’t know if I even see Botox, but she does look fresh so I guess it was really well done. She’s one of those women who’s really pretty either way, but with makeup it’s like DAMN girl. I think she looks sexy.

ETA: Okay, the eyebrow. That’s a Janice Dickinson eyebrow. I see it now. But I still think she looks pretty.

    • Nev says:

      WORD.

      She looks beautiful.

    • perplexed says:

Yeah, I thought the va va room was going on too. Not sure if Ben’s idiocy has made her pull out all the stops.

      • Shambles says:

I hope he’s in Matt Damon’s guest house with no company but a bag of Doritos and these pictures. Yeah, Bat Boy. Revenge hotness is a thing. Sucks, dunnit?

    • Jaded says:

Totally agree Shambles – so she’s had a bit of needling, she’s still a gorgeous woman who’s come through a really sh*tty time in her life with a smile on her face.

    • Kitten says:

Aw is that your kitteh, Shambles? So cute!!!

I also think Jen looks great.

      • Shambles says:

Si, that is my KittyButt. Don’t be fooled by his utterly adorable disguise, he is a dictator on a quest for world domination. He’s trying to eat my Cinnamon Toast Crunch as we speak.

      • lucy2 says:

Well, he’s a cat, so I think world domination is assumed.

I think she looks good too – different, but not bad.

      • Kitten says:

Oh man…I might have to set up a battle between your baby and my boy Pickles. He has a world-wide reputation as the baddest cat in town, so destructive that he actually walks with his claws so that he can destroy carpet and wood flooring with every step. He’ll also pee in your shoe closet–not once, but over and over again until you have no choice but to discard three pairs of fantastic new boots.
He’s a terror. In fact, his nickname in the ring is The Cat Who Ate Boston.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

I think she looks amazing too!

  12. jess1632 says:

She looks like a Jen garner impersonator if that makes sense but the dress is nice

And hell yeah to thrift shopping. Love hitting up the value villages and goodwills in my neighbourhood

  13. kibbles says:

I really like this dress on Garner. It is rare to see her wear something remotely sexy that shows off her cleavage or curves. I hope she continues to find more conservative yet sexy dresses for future events. It looks a lot better than her usual matronly clothing.

  14. Dawn says:

I think she looks great! As for the marriage, I think it was going downhill for awhile now. I don’t think guys like Affleck should ever get married until he is older and the women are not so available to him anymore.

  15. catwoman says:

30 years working in ophthalmology and I just don’t see a wonky eye.

  16. Merritt says:

She needs to wear a different lip color. The shade she has on almost washes out her lips.

  17. coconut says:

some of my best dresses and shoes come from goodwill and out of the closet, and my annual “switch & bitch” (clothing swap party).

  18. BendyWindy says:

I like her new hair color, but I hope she needs to lay off the spray on tan. That’s Kardashian-level self-tanner.

  19. Jayna says:

My friend had great hair, and during her separation and divorce, from stress half of her hair fell out. I couldn’t believe it when I visited her, how thin it was. And she wanted the divorce. It eventually all came back in.

It looks the same with Jennifer. Her hair seems much thinner on top. I think stress during those hard months took its toll.

I don’t see a wonky eye. I see false eyelashes that she’s not used to wearing often and lots of makeup. Maybe a little too much makeup, really.

  20. Roller74 says:

I don’t think she’s had anything done to be totally honest, the wonky eye looks more like a product of an over zealous makeup artist working on her brows.

  21. AlmondJoy says:

    Absolutely love thrift stores. Holla!

  22. The Original Mia says:

I think she looks good. Eyeliner seems a little heavy, but I have no idea because I’m not a makeup girl.

  23. I haven’t gotten over being disgusted by her ‘breakup vacation by the sea’.

  24. Sa Bez says:

I work for a designer and would love to send something to you- just because I am slightly obsessed. Where can I send to? (Our sample size is a 4/6- hope this works!)

  25. Pippa says:

It messed up her beautiful face, Botox never looks right outside of still photos. If she wanted to upgrade her look she should have hired a stylist for everyday wear, that’s where the problem was.

  26. BJ says:

I prefer Olivia’s look a little bit better because of the flawless hair & make-up. But I like Jennifer’s overall look too. And this is a little re-union between the two. Have anyone see here Butter? It’s a hillarious (and quite underrated) movie with Garner as a Sarah Palin like character and Wilde as a very funny stripper.

  27. Ana says:

This is the look I have waiting for. Finally! Botox or not she brought back her va va boom look after all these years. The dress was beautiful. Other sites have the pictures of the whole dress and other sites have her looking so much better than the ones posted here.

    Great job JG!

  28. Shannon says:

If she did this because of ben’s antics, then I feel sorry for her. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her appearance (except for her street style). Now she’s started something and before you know it, she’ll end up looking like a Kardashian. Why do women put so much stock in what men think about their looks!?! F*ck him!

  29. ScotiaGirl says:

People saw that photo last week where she had that weird look on her face and immediately thought it was Botox and now ever since everyone is running with it including this site. It was a moment and if you look at pictures taken later that same day her face was fine. It was just some face she was making to express something to her friend. In my opinion I feel very confident she has had nothing done. Her look is the result of little heavier make up on than she usually wears to these functions.

I think she she looks beautiful and I hope Ben sees what he lost.

Olivia’s dress looks like something from Little House on the Prairie in my opinion.

  30. MoeC23 says:

I’m not her biggest fan when it comes to acting, but I have to admit she hasn’t forgot her homestate ( West Virginian here). She visits Huntington often, and does a lot to help this area.
Lol I know one of her acting professors at Marshall University. She was actually told she was a terrible actress but would make it on drive and sweetness alone. No lie either hehehe

  31. Neah says:

She had some Botox done and got some lip fuller. Other then that she looks fine to me a little to much makeup, but fine.

  32. Knitnwine says:

Love Jens dress. She looks more glam than I’m used to, I think even on the red carpet she tends to look frumpy to me. The earrings are awful, but a bold choice coming from someone who’s accessories are usually so snooze worthy.

Poor Olivia! Hot mess of a dress, bad hair, and some cruel camera angles! She usually looks great but this look is awful! It’s like Free People tried to design a lingerie for Duggars or something. Why does her stylist mess with her like that?
