Demi Lovato in Lorena Sarbu at the AMAs: refreshing or matronly?

2015 American Music Awards
The fashion from the AMAs last night was pretty underwhelming, as Kaiser mentioned. There was a lot of skin showing overall and only a few celebrities really brought it. (Exceptions: Ciara and maybe Kat Graham)

Demi Lovato went for a more mature look in this fitted Lorena Sarbu sequin backless gown. (It actually had a sheer nude panel along the back.) She looks decent in photos, but on camera her styling was atrocious. She was wearing way too much makeup, which was just too dark, especially paired with that shellacked hair. Plus Demi told Guiliana during the E! red carpet special that she picked her hair and makeup to go with that dress. So this severe style is on her somewhat, although I suppose her makeup artist could have toned it down. Demi performed “Confident” last night, and you can see the video here.

Kat Graham, on the other hand, really worked this white and rainbow striped strapless Georges Chakra gown. This is a little over the top for the AMAs but the sheer skirt kind of balances it out and it’s somehow classic and whimsical at the same time. There’s a cool print on the stripes. Check out her eye makeup too, she has yellow shadows at the corners of her eyes.

Zendaya Coleman was in this bubblegum pink Ungaro minidress paired with Louboutin heels. This is cute and fun for the AMAs and I love the 70s vive. She was interviewed by E!’s Terrence Jenkins, not Giuliana (remember her issue with Giuliana?) and I swear she said she did her own makeup. She talked about giving herself enough time to get ready and do her makeup. She also said she snacked on microwave mac and cheese while getting ready.

Speaking of Giuliana Rancic, she was in this silver metallic and black mesh Gabriela Cadena gown. She told Terrence that it looked heavy but was lightweight and comfortable. I really liked this on her on camera. It the photos it looks meh. I also enjoy her red carpet interviews, she asked a lot of celebrity women about their kids and she got some fun answers. Terrence did an incredible job too, he’s hilarious. At one point he was interviewing Terry Crews and his wife, who were talking about a “90 day sex fast” they went on at a therapist’s suggestion. Terry was going on about how beneficial it was for their relationship and Terrence shut it down, “I can’t let you continue selling this, it’s going to hurt a lot of fellas.

Alicia Silverstone, 39, was in a gold metallic Christian Siriano gown. She looks incredible. Alicia and Jeremy Sisto presented together in a mini Clueless reunion. It’s been 20 years since Clueless came out!

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years since clueless has been released. Jesus I’m getting old!!

    This sucks……😬

  2. bros says:

gross. lovato’s hair looks wooden. and sloppy! that kind of hair is not that hard to do!

    • pinetree13 says:

I actually like how she looks but not sure about the dress from the front, agree that it looks matronly. I actually think the dark makeup suits her but maybe I’m alone on this.

  3. QQ says:

I love what The Kat Graham Girl is doing, and actually no one in this post, Demi included, sh!t the bed in any way compared to the Gwen and The Kardassholes post, in fact I’m surprised cause Rancic and Zendaya are always good for a “WTF are you even,,, gir… I Can’t” look

    • M.A.F. says:

I don’t know, Demi’s hair was terrible when she was performing. It wouldn’t move so when she kept shaking her head up & down the hair looked like a wig.

I saw the third picture on another site and for some reason it reminded me of Dita Von Teese. Was hoping the whole see through dresses with very little covered up were done but guess not.

  5. Locke Lamora says:

Demi and Zendaya always wear too much makeup. I wish the extreme counturing trend would finally go away. Zendaya’s dress is lovely.

Giulianna is a pro when it comes to rc interviews. During one of these award shows Maria Menunous took her place and she was awful.

    • Jayna says:

Yeah, I think Giullianna is always good on red carpet interviews.

ugh i cant stand MM .. poor excuse of a replacement for G

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I read a snippet from an interview last week in which Bobbi Brown remarked that this extreme contouring makes women look as if they have dirt on their faces. The woman understands her craft.

  6. Scal says:

Alicia looks great, but ever since I saw that video of her feeding her child out of her own mouth like a bird all I see is crazy. She’s wackadoo.

  7. Nancy says:

Demi always gets such negativity. I hope she and/or her stylist keeps trying cause she’s a pretty girl.

  8. JenniferJustice says:

The look does make Demi appear older but she’s not a child anymore so maybe that’s what she wanted. She wears the style well, but yes, her hair looked pretty stiff.

So much matallic going. Must be the new hot trend but I don’t care for it.

Zendaya is darling. That may not be the look she was going for, but she is….darling and that’s a compliment.

  9. Daria Morgendorffer says:

Zendaya has become my queen. She is such a gorgeous girl and the fact that she’s got an incredible personality and brains to boot puts her over the top for me. Love her and she can do no wrong in my eyes. I don’t adore her outfit, but I think she can pull anything off and she understands “age-appropriate.”

I thought Kat Graham’s dress was a bit much for the occasion.

Alicia Silverstone looks great, and anything related to “Clueless” excites me. That movie is top five for me.

  10. missskitttin says:

When I see Demi Lovato all I can think about is her sister Poot Lovato and why hasn’t she been out in a while!

  11. Ayra. says:

I can’t deal with Demi’s dress. The pattern just reminds me of a bunch of slugs just resting on her.. oi.
Zendaya looks nice. I love Kat’s idea, but the dress is a bit too much for the AMAs.

  12. Bridget says:

I feel like Demi’s dress should have been a mini. Otherwise she’s just wearing some well put together 50 year old’s gown for a fancy gala.

    • Pandy says:

Yes, that might have helped the hair and make up look more interesting and less old on her. Zendaya looked adorable as did Kat (although stop with the ball gowns at music shows already ladies!). Alicia looked fantastic.

      • Bridget says:

The ball gowns at music shows makes it look like they’re not invited to anything else and busted out all the fancy for this.

  13. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Zendaya’s outfit reminds me of a 70’s Barbie outfit but in a good way. It is very fun and just a little formal.

  14. lucy2 says:

I like Alicia’s dress, and she does look great. Can’t believe it’s been 20 years since Clueless! I still love that movie.

  15. Holmes says:

Demi’s stylist should be fired and sent to the ninth circle of hell. Awful hair, awful makeup, awful dress.

Kat Graham’s dress is cool but poorly fitted. It’s giving her the appearance of a gut where there obviously isn’t one.

  16. serena says:

I love Zendaya but that dress is ugly af.

    • pinetree13 says:

It’s very legally blonde job interview to me. I do think the colour looks nice on her and the shoes look great with her legs.

  17. cocoa.x says:

I actually really like Demi’s 1930’s inspired look with fingerwaves, strong lip and backless dress. It was a tad too much of a literal throwback and could have been toned down for modern audiences (fresh makeup? Or loose waves in a side bun?) but I think its cool, very art deco. Love her curves!
