I feel bad but… Budget Natalie Portman.

    • Emma - The JP Lover says:

@Meowsy, who wrote: “I feel bad but… Budget Natalie Portman.”

Gal Gadot is 10″ taller than Natalie Portman and doesn’t have her over-bite. I’m not seeing a similarity and Gal is a class act … but to each his own.

    • hmph says:

      @Meowsy Totally agree!
And overbite? Really? In that case Angelina J also has an overbite. Your two front teeth are supposed to stick out a little, it’s both healthy and more aesthetically pleasing.

    • Detritus says:

What exactly is her facial expression in this photo? It’s not Wonder Woman and I hate it. It’s baby rabbit looks up from water dish.
She’s going to have to act a lot better than I think she can to be convincing since her physicality does not fit the role.

  2. antipodean says:

    Miss Piggy doing Hello, fabulous!

  3. Naya says:

Wheres the gd muscle definition, Gal? I get that the studio doesnt want Ronda Rouseys body in their masturbatory fantasy film, but what the hell is wrong with some definition? All female action stars should get a pic of Ciaras body at her peak and work the weights.

    • INeedANap says:

What’s wrong with Ronda Rousey’s body? That’s what Diana generally looks like in the comics and cartoons.

And you know the answer — skinny skinny SKINNY above all else.

      • Naya says:

Theres ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Ronda Rouseys body. I just meant that guys dont typically sexually objectify the body type and the studio cares about servicing the male audience very very much. You are so right about her arms. She couldnt lift the lasso much left swing it.

      • Grant says:

WW def looks more like peak Ciara than RR in the comics. That was literally almost the perfect description: long, corded muscle.

    • V4Real says:

She is a pretty young lady but I don’t have much faith in her as WW. The fan boys are already saying they don’t think she is right for Wonder Woman and that she might be replaced if the film doesn’t do well. WW is my favorite female superhero and I hope she does the character justice. She’s not that good of an actress. I know that you don’t have to be Meryl Streep caliber to pull off a comic book movie but you must be believable in that role.

I agree she doesn’t have to be all muscular but she should have some leg and arm definition. Lynda Carter wasn’t full of muscle but she suited that character. I think the only saving grace of this movie will be Chris Pine, I hope I’m wrong. Though I do love me some Pine.

“Theres ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Ronda Rouseys body.”

There was something wrong with it a few days ago when she almost got knocked the F_ck out. LOL….

    • sticker shock says:

I am sick of people being focused on the looks and muscle definition. Everyone has their opinion of who looks the part. Everyone from Venus Williams to Dita Von Tease has been a suggestion. The only thing I care about is if they handle her character right. You can get every thing on the checklist “right” and still mangle the character, because studios forget that Wonder Woman is a figure of supreme wisdom, compassion, kindness and joy. She’s not this fucking grimdark batman in heels that the Snyder movie makes her out to be. Why go for nuance, though? Its easier to just write her from a man’s pov as the angry feminist wielding a sword, hacking off heads at the slightest provocation.
At the end of the day, cast whoever. JUST WRITE HER WELL. F*CKING REMEMBER WHO SHE IS. Write the core of her character well, and it doesn’t matter what she looks like. This goes for the comics, too. I’m talking to you, Finches.

      • V4Real says:

Breath, it’s just our opinions, nothing personal.

      • Original T.C. says:

        @Sticker Shocker
I’m sorry but that sounds like “lowered expectations” for the female led action movie. Studio spend years to make sure Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, The Avengers look as close to their comic book version as possible AND stay true to their characters and personality. Why? Because they know BOYS and MEN won’t go see their film and they will lose billions. I will include female comic book fans too.

Why is it when it comes to female characters we should settle for her as least being a good person? Why not look strong, why not hire the best actress. Gal Godot is cheap and she made promises to “get in shape” for her two movies. So while Chris Hemsworth was hitting the gym, eating lean protein and running, Gal was doing her low low calorie diet and yoga??

Even fanboys are demanding more. They are disappointed that she looks like she’s preparing for a Runway show instead of an athletic looking superhero with both strength and integrity. It wasn’t only girls that liked superwoman boys did too.

      • Bridget says:

Um, who on earth suggested Dita Von Teese?

      • EN says:

        > Why is it when it comes to female characters we should settle for her as least being a good person? Why not look strong, why not hire the best actress.

Sigourney Weaver was the original female action star. She looked strong and muscular. This is what I want. Someone who looks mature and strong..

      • Grant says:

The actress playing WW needs to look like she can take a punch from Superman because she’s one of the few beings in the DC universe who can.

    • stickershock says:

V4Real- yes, breathing. The fact remains that people all have always had the superficial checklist in their heads about what Wonder Woman SHOULD be, and they forget or are unaware of the core of her character. She was created as a figure of compassion to show the patriarchy a better way to move forward. As long as we remain fixated on her physical form, or what magical accountrements she should use or be wearing, or what color her cape, is we’ll just repeat the same mistakes over and over and over again, and this will be just another reason not to have women led projects and women led superhero movies, much less any other kind of movie with women in the lead.

I’ve seen a lot of projects where creators have fought to get things just right. The right weapons, the right look of her hair. The animated Wonder Woman movie starring Kerri Russel even remembered to draw Diana with a convex nose as seen in Greco Roman sculptures. But they wrote her as the Angry Woman. Because feminism equals man-hating and ignorance, right? That’s the easy assumption, and it happens over and over and over again.
If Wonder Woman were real, she would wonder why all this fuss is about appearance anyway. No body type is more empowering, respectable or more beautiful or impressive
than any other. She’d argue that Rousey would be great. She’d argue that twiggy from the 60s would be great. She’d champion everyone because everyone and anyone can embody amazonian principles of love and self-love. It’s always been the aspect writers had the most trouble with, because I suspect on some level, that it makes us all uncomfortable in a way.

      • Bridget says:

I understand what you’re saying, but I would say that her appearance is actually important within this context. Because it isn’t specifically about Wonder Woman’s muscles, it’s the fact that we’re being given this wonderful feminist icon character but they still chose an actress specifically for how she appeals to the male gaze. It’s the idea that women aren’t allowed to appear strong, because it makes them less sexually appealing. It would have been nice to see a Wonder Woman that both got the character right AND looked like the Amazon she is. Ultimately, if the movie is good and they do justice to the character, it won’t matter as much what Gal Gadot the actress looks like. And if the movie stinks and is a total flop it still won’t matter what Gal Gadot looks like – it’ll be blamed on women superheros just not being popular.

      • V4Real says:

It does matter what they look like if they are trying to stay true to character. Read @ Original T.C. response above, she nailed it.

Should someone like Pee Wee Herman play Thor if what they look like isn’t important? Should Jesse Eisenberg play Captain America if what they look like isn’t important? Or does this only apply to female superheroes?

  4. Chaucer says:

You mean Coldplay continues to put out consistently bad music and people are still surprised?

    • Birdix says:

That song will give you a headache within the first 30 seconds. Even dancing gorillas are better than that song.

  5. PennyLane says:

Sigh. Whenever I see photos of this actress, the main word that comes to mind is ‘twig’.

In some photos though she looks like a praying mantis. Or stick insect. So yay for variety?

Don’t get me wrong, the actress playing the role is very pretty. It’s just that…for Wonder Woman wouldn’t you want to cast someone with a little bit of muscle?

  6. SusanneToo says:

No, sorry, Wonder Woman did not dress like that.

    • sticker shock says:

depends, actually. If you follow the comic books she’s had literally hundreds of variations of her costume, everything from ceremonial greek armor, complete with pteruges, (before Xena did, thank you very much) to head to toe gold eagle armor, to the costume you saw Lynda Carter wear.

    • stickershock says:

      @SusanneToo
And its not a bad thing that you love those. We all have “our” Wonder Woman. My point is that there’s not one definitive Wonder Woman. There are so many continuities and so many variations between continuities, even in the “canonical” wonder woman there are not dozens but hundreds of variations of her costume. Wonder Woman happens to have one of if not THE biggest wardrobe in the superhero community. Blame it on what I call the Dress Up Doll Disease that people have when it concerns this character. No other character even within DC seems to inspire this syndrome, or at least not to the extent that Diana does.

It all comes down to everyone transfering what they think is beautiful to the character, and what they think beauty and empowerment means. It has very little to do with the character, at the end of the day. I’m guilty of it, too. We can all be divided on where her tiara or diadem should land on her head. We can fight over whether or not her bracers should be long or short. (I’ve literally had this fight with fellow fans). Big, or small, with spangles or without. Pteruges, tassets, or panties. These debates can and do go on forever within the fandom. At the end of the day- is Diana smart? Is she kind? Is she an example? As long as she’s that’s she’s everyone’s diana.

  7. EN says:

She looks too much like the new Star Wars girl.
The same facial expression . Like they came out of a clone factory.
Is that the “it” look in Hollywood these days?

  8. Miss Grace Jones says:

The Wonder Woman of the comics is in the Serena Williams body range and the lightest would be a Ciara strong dancer type. As a fellow twig I don’t buy this skinny underwear model as Amazonian queen. On top pf that she’s so bland and generic looking.

  9. Miss M says:

I love Gal! Fingers crossed she will be successful!

  10. pat says:

yes to Robin Wright playing Queen Hippolyta. So glad that role didn’t go to Nicole Kidman and her frozen botox-ed face. Given this Gal chick and bland ass Chris Pine have the acting chops of Justin Bieber, I guess all the gravitas and acting skills will be carried on by Robin Wright’s regal ass.I also trust Patty Jenkins doing a kick ass first comic book based movie with a leading woman. We have to support this movie regardless, because blockbusters comic books with leading men have a license to fail and they keep doing them, but when a female lead movie fails is the excuse they need to the sexism and women back to playing just the girlfriend.

    • Naya says:

“We have to support this movie regardless”

TRUTH. I’m sure the studio will not blame the Gal Gadot casting if this flops. They’ll blame Wonder Woman.

      • pinetree13 says:

So true. If female leads are only put out every so often, even one fail will be used to continue to let men’s stories dominate.

    • EN says:

Good point. Though I don’t like the lead , I wanted someone more exciting/ warrior like (this girl looks too soft and without screen presence).
You are right about this being an important test for a female lead flicks.

    • V4Real says:

  11. InvaderTak says:

Looks like Natalie Portman from star wars.

  12. Madpoe says:

Whew! for a second I was panicky that my Linda Carter’s shrine from my childhood would be tarnished, wheewww it’s all good. and i agree – looks like natalie portman.

  13. iheartgossip says:

    Nope. Nope. And? Nope.

  14. Tiffany says:

I follow K Heigl on social media. For the life of me I cannot figure out why she destroyed her career when that side of her is pleasant.

    • Scarlet Vixen says:

I follow Heigl’s husband (singer Josh Kelley) and they seem to have such a loving & wonderful family. I am always baffled by how she was labeled as such a b*tch because she seems like such a sweetheart and great mom.

  15. Jayna says:

I like her as Wonder Woman. She was in the Israeli Army for two years. So just through her boot camp training , she’s tough enough to play the part. Plus, she did her own stunts in Fast and the Furious. She jumped from a motorcycle to a moving jeep for a stunt on Fast & Furious. She’s Wonder Woman to me. LOL

    • stickershock says:

the thing that convinced me she might do well is that Gal Gadot recieved a lot of scrutiny, misogyny and hate mail for her lack of boobs alone once it was announced she’d be Wonder Woman. She responded with grace and acceptance even to the nastiest responses, and that is quite possibly the most Wonder Woman thing ever.

Not that I think any of this will make it through to the writing and directing, but at least that wouldn’t be Gal’s fault.

      • pinetree13 says:

Wow are you serious? Wait, it’s the internet…of course. That is still so sad though. yeah her BOOBS are what matters most. SMH.

    • Miss M says:

She was awesome in fast and furious and I was sad when her character died. Gal is a sweetheart and a bad @$s lady at the same time. I think she will bring femininity and strenght to the character.
      Go Gal!

    • Hally says:

Fyi, all Israelis do a mandatory 2 years in the army out of high school, so Gal isn’t special in that respect, nor does a bootcamp she went through as a teenager make her a better wonder woman than any other woman that has participated in any sort of sports in her past.

      • Dani says:

A lot of those Israelis – like me – barely make it through the first year and are discharged. The first two years are the hardest and can literally kill you. Especially if you want to be a Golani.

  16. hmph says:

The woman that played Xena is what I had in mind….

  17. Nance says:

I thought it was from Star Wars!

  18. velcrodots says:

I really HATE everyone complaining that she’s too skinny, but at the same time will go on about how much they love Lynda Carter who guess what, is also skinny. I don’t give a flying f**k about her body, I just want them to write her character well.

  19. Maria A. says:

I am just hoping that it all comes together as a film. I have waited a long, long time to see Wonder Woman on screen.

    • dj says:

We have ALL waited a very long time for this movie and WW. My original hope was the actress currently in “Blindspot” but has also played Lady Sif with Thor in both Marvel movies and TV. Unfortunately, because she has been in a Marvel movie it somehow precluded her from being cast in a DC movie. But whoever mentioned as women we HAVE to support this movie is true. Men will blame it on the female lead. Remember Halle Berry as Catwoman. OMG! The outfit alone was terrible. The movie system/directors/suits et al blamed that one on women. Elektra did not do very well either. That’s it. That is all of the female superhero movies I can think of and both bombed. It would be fantastic if Zach Snyder would give Lucy Lawless a cameo in WW movie to show that he “gets it.” I know too much to hope for.

  20. LAK says:

Does anyone else think she resembles Natalie Portman?

  21. SamiHami says:

I have never been a Coldplay fan, but now I actively despise them. They are using footage of the service for the Emmanuel 9-the people murdered by psycho racist Dylann Roof while attending church in my city of Charleston SC in one of their upcoming videos. How dare they exploit this tragedy for their profit? And how dare Obama permit it? He gave the go-ahead to use footage of him singing “Amazing Grace” during the service.

Charleston has barely begun the hard part of healing from this evil. And now some washed up band wants to use it for profit. I’m so disgusted that it actually makes my stomach hurt.

  22. Mindy says:

Every time I see a photo of her as Wonder Woman, all I see is a vapid, vacant stare… you know, like the lights are on, but nobody’s home.

    • SamiHami says:

Me too. I really, really hope she surprises us and it turns out to be good. I’ve been looking forward to this for so long…I want to like it. But we’ll see.
