Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are expecting! It will be the first child for both, and Sarah Michelle is due in the fall, which probably means she’s just at the end of her first trimester. Gellar is 31 years old, and Prinze is 33 years old. They’ve been married for six years, but been together since 2000. They met in 1997, during filming of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are expecting their first child together, a source close to the couple confirms exclusively to PEOPLE. “They’re very excited,” says the source, adding that the actress, 31, is due in the fall.
Gellar, who has been married to Prinze, 33, for six years, will next shoot the HBO pilot The Wonderful Maladays, for which she serves as an executive producer. Prinze recently shot the comedy pilot No Heroics for ABC.

There were some rumors going around last week that Sarah Michelle was about to sign on to a film version of her most popular work, the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The reports seemed weak at the time, and even worse now. Buffy fans will probably have to wait a few more years to see Sarah Michelle as Buffy again.

Oh my God!!!! IF this is true, then I am so freaking excited : ) After so long together, I wondered if the couple wanted to have children at all (which of course, if they didn’t, would have been their perrogotive). We have to be very careful with “sources” other than couples themselves announcing pregnancy news. Why, just two years ago, Nelly Furtado, SJP, AND Kate Hudon were all “expecting” according to “sources close to the couples”. And ummmm, WHERE exactly are all those kids???

Congratulations to Mrs and Mr. Michelle Gellar.
Not really getting what all the “it’s about time” comments are for. They enjoyed being married–first–for six years. Now they’re ready for a baby. I think it’s wonderful that they waited and didn’t just jump into it like everyone else seems to do. Some really do march to their own beat, you know?
They’ll most likely be more grounded parents as a result. Congrats to them both!

i like these 2 they seem very private and i never hear about them at all its like they disapeared if this is true good for them if thats what makes them happy then more power to them. i think she is so pretty she’s so petit shes to cute and freddie is handsome so there children should be blessed in the looks dept….wishing them a healthy baby:)
Freddie did a interview how he wanted children and wife Sarah didn’t. Freddie wanted his name to be carry on and wonder if it will ever happen. Freddie did talk a little about his dad death and how it affected him. So what change her mind? It was stated she wanted to act and not wanting to give that up.
I’ve seen pretty much all of his interviews, which he stopped giving a while ago. There was no such interview and I doubt that FPJ would ever, EVER share that kind of information about his relationship with the public.
I’ve always liked them both – they seem so sweet and ‘together’. Congratulations to the two of them – that will be one beautiful baby!
