Alicia Vikander on her many noms: ‘It’s very overwhelming, it all felt very surreal’

wenn23270111

Here are some photos of Alicia Vikander from the Berlin photocall for The Danish Girl. No, I don’t understand the fringed booties either. But she looks very pretty here – I often complain about Alicia being under-styled for red carpets, but that look works for more casual, low-key settings and she ends up looking very fresh and pretty. I love her sweater – it looks like something from J.Crew in the 1990s.

Alicia had a great week. She was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress SAG Award for The Danish Girl, and then she was nominated for two Golden Globes, one for Best Supporting for Ex-Machina and one for Lead Actress in a Drama for The Danish Girl. We still don’t know how the category issue will work out for the Oscars, but I suspect that if the SAGs have nominated her in supporting, the Oscars will too. And she’s a much bigger contender in the supporting category. As in, there’s definitely a path for her to win Oscar gold if she’s nominated in supporting. Alicia gave E! News an exclusive interview after all of her nominations came in. Here are some highlights:

Her nominations: “It’s very overwhelming and was a big whirl yesterday when I found out. It all felt very surreal. You don’t expect your name to be called. For me it’s been such a journey to be able to work on both of these films, which are so incredibly different.”

She was awake when her name was called twice: “I had all bags packed and I finished and I came out and my publicist stood there with just a big smile on her face and told me the news and told it again and I couldn’t really believe it. I was jumping down the stairs. I called my parents. To have something like this happen is something you would never have expected. I’m going to take a moment to get my head around and really enjoy that.”

Whether she’s thinking about the Oscars: “I’m really looking forward to Christmas. I’m going to go home and see my family and all those other things ahead is something you can’t think about.”

She’s making pickled herring for Christmas and more: “We’re going to build everything from gingerbread houses and cook traditional Swedish dinner. We have a few days, which is good. We’re quite a big family.”

[From E! News]

Pickled herring is a thing for Swedish Christmases? You learn something new every day. As for her astonishment, real or feigned, about her nominations… this is the same actress who told W Magazine back in March: “Next year, the Oscars will be interesting. If all goes well, I’m going to have three films in contention.” She’s been planning this all year, and by that I mean she’s been waging her quiet Oscar campaign this whole time and preparing herself for her big arrival in Hollywood. I don’t blame her for being ambitious or for proudly stating her plans to attend the Oscars, but it looks like some Oscar strategist got their hands on Vikander and told her to play it like her nominations were a huge surprise and not a carefully thought-out and well-executed ambition.

PS… Alicia is on the cover of the January 2016 Vogue. We’ll have that story once Vogue releases it!

  1. GlimmerBunny says:

I think she’s so pretty and talented and deserves her nominations, especially for Ex Machina. I fell in love with her (and Oscar Isaac) in that movie.

    • mimif says:

That movie was so good. I like her too, Miss Bunny. 🙂

      • SusanneToo says:

I do too and it’s nice to see mostly positve(so far) comments about her on a thread. Sometimes, the contempt is astonishing.

      • QQ says:

Count me in I loved EVERYTHING about Ex machina, Her Face, Oscar, Domhall, the House, EVERYTHING

    • Lurker says:

I fell in love with Domhnall Gleeson in that movie. Well, I guess I had fallen pretty hard watching About Time. Or maybe it was when he was Bill Weasley?

    • Alex says:

I knew nothing about her but when I saw that movie I was really impressed. Looking forward to seeing more of her

    • I Choose Me says:

Yes. I like her too and I’m def rooting for her.

  2. Sixer says:

I think the best Christmas cuisines are the ones that have a dessert for each of the twelve apostles. TWELVE DESSERTS. TWELVE. Pickled herring is for a Christmas Eve smorgasbord, right?

    • lilacflowers says:

      I can support TWELVE DESSERTS.

      • Sixer says:

In some places they add in Christ. So that makes THIRTEEN DESSERTS.

(PS: you may notice that I am more interested in food than in who gets what nominations.)

      • mimif says:

You guys scare me when you use ALL CAPS. It sets off my CROQUEMPRESSURE.

      • lilacflowers says:

The nominations are beyond our control and we don’t get anything from them. But the food? All ours!

      • frisbee says:

I can support 13 desserts and or puddings, as long as they involve variations on chocolate, you may notice I am more interested in chocolate than nominations…

      • Sixer says:

I’m sorry about the ALL CAPS, mimif. I’m just too lazy to do the bolding HTML. Mea culpa. But you gotsta admit, TWELVE DESSERTS is worth an emphasis.

I don’t think Sweden does twelve or thirteen desserts, frisbee, but I’m pretty sure they have a special Christmas toffee, which is almost as good as chocolate, right? Ooh. Shall I make tablet today?

The life of female nominees, Lilac, seems to be all about avoiding food so that they can be thin enough for the boys to nominate them. Unlike them, we are FREE!

      • mimif says:

Speaking of free, Sixer, I heard you leave the house with nothing but a coat on. 🙊

      • Sixer says:

        I’m a strip-o-gram when I’m not here.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

As a Christian, I definitely support adding in Christ to make thirteen desserts. I mean, he was the top guy. There wouldn’t BE any apostles without Christ, so yeah, thirteen. Are any of them chocolate? Christ would want chocolate, I’m pretty sure. I mean, I made that up, but if Christ asked me to make him a birthday cake, I’d go with chocolate. Who got nominated for what?

      • mimif says:

No way. JC was totally a carrot cake kind of dude. Hold the raisins.

      • lilacflowers says:

Well, 13 would make a Baker’s Dozen so there is definitely precedent for this. And yes, by all means, several of the 13 desserts must be chocolate. For Christ. He would want some caramel in there too. Somewhere. And marshmallow. Basically, there should be an entire vat of Phish Food ice cream for everyone.

      • frisbee says:

Sorry GNAT I posted my comment then read yours. Ok that’s fine, with you on the chocolate ALL THE WAY…(there’s a christmassy song in there somewhere I think it involves Jingle Bells….)

      • SusanneToo says:

I see JC more as a granola kinda guy. He might like a vegan carob cake, though.

      • Sixer says:

I’m in the thirteen camp. Has anyone ever tried Nutella hot chocolate? Or chocolate vodka? (Ok, chocolate vodka probably isn’t very Christ-like, but he’d let us off if we promised to be soppy drunks, not chippy drunks, I’m sure).

      • mimif says:

NUTELLA HOT CHOCOLATE. Why must you torture me so?

      • frisbee says:

Spanish or Italian Hot Chocolate – like drinking warm liquid melted chocolate – with whipped cream on top, only for the hardened Chocoholic. and you don’t have to eat anything else for the rest of the day unless you really, really want to….

      • Lilacflowers says:

@Sixer, my oncologist gave me a bottle of chocolate vodka. She’s Swedish so I think we’re in topic for at least one of these threads

      • NUTBALLS says:

Definitely invite Jesus. We won’t have to purchase wine.

I’m all for 13 desserts as long as strawberry-rhubarb pie is in the mix. Christmas isn’t Christmas without that. And chocolate martinis.

      • mimif says:

I think the Swedish oncologist needs to be invited as well.

      • Gardenia says:

LMAO. You guys are hilarious. <3

    • Esmom says:

Yes on the pickled herring for Christmas Eve. My ethnic heritage (geographically not far from Sweden) dictates that we do the same thing on Christmas Eve — 12 seafood and/non-meat cold dishes. We’ve never done 12 desserts but that’s an idea I can get behind, lol.

      • mimif says:

        Are you a Laplander, Esmom?!

      • Sixer says:

Ooh! That’s so cool. Twelve savoury AND twelve sweet. I could do a multicultural Christmas like that!

      • Esmom says:

mimif, lol, good guess but no. Starts with L though. 🙂

      • frisbee says:

Esmom – hazard a guess at Lithuania – far more Scandanavian than Eastern European I understand…and I’ll bet the seafood is just fab!

      • mimif says:

Dang it! The bf is Saami so I thought we could all eat forest mushrooms together and wait for Saint Nicholas to show up on his caribou. 😉

        Good guess, frisbeeeee!

      • frisbee says:

mimif – if you’re eating the forest mushrooms I think you are I can guarantee St Nick will show up 🙂

      • Farhi says:

Estonia probably, the most northern of the Baltic states.

      • Esmom says:

It’s frisbee FTW! And mimif, you don’t have to only be Saami to love forest mushrooms. In fact the mushroom is one of Lithuanian’s most iconic symbols, at least in our family.

mimif, I just read a novel recently that featured Saami culture and that I really enjoyed for its dreamy, mystical quality, Let The Northern Lights Erase Your Name by Vendela Vida.

    • vauvert says:

Yes! Agreed! Unless you are in charge of bringing the desserts this year (ahem, me) and then you worry about all the baking involved, including two cakes (carrot and Buche de Noel), shortbread, home made Oreos… List goes on.
Back to Alicia – this faux modesty grates. Ambition, I admire. Acting like butter wouldn’t melt in your mouth, not so much. Everyone keeps saying how pretty she is, why am I not seeing it? She seems just averagely attractive. Honestly. What am I missing?

      • mimif says:

Who cares about Alicia, I need to hear more about these home made Oreos…

      • Sixer says:

I will bring you a dozen desserts.

I don’t have any skin in the Alicia game but I will say that to me she looks um… how to put it? Normal? Un-fiddled-with? But pretty. I like people who look like people, rather than people who look as though they’ve spent thousands on interventions. Perhaps it’s that?

      • vauvert says:

Mimif, have you ever checked out the Smitten Kitchen blog? She is this incredible lady cooking out of a tiny kitchen in Brooklyn (makes my small one look lavish) and she is a superb baker. Her recipe for home made Oreos deserves awards. And it is not hard to make either! My guys are crazy about it.
Oh and her lasagna – no ricotta, thank you, just meat ragu, bechamel and home made pasta…. Heaven. I just ordered her book for Christmas. (Lots of vegetarian recipes, which don’t help me much, we do eat meat… But everything I cooked from her site and my other favourite, Food Wishes, are winners.)

      • mimif says:

I have a couple friends who have blogs and they are always ripping recipes from the Smitten Kitchen, and they do look delicious. Bechamel in your lasagna is pretty freaking fancy!

      • NUTBALLS says:

Smitten Kitchen is da Bomb! I don’t like to cook, but I love looking at her blog.

I could perhaps be inspired to whip up a batch of Red Velvet Brownies…. that’s Christmasy.

  3. SBS says:

You’d be surprised how much pickled herring we consume.

It’s totally up to each and everyone how they want to conduct their careers but I doubt she was *that* surprised. I saw the Vogue cover, it’s pretty bad to be honest.

    • CL says:

I saw the Vogue pictures and notice in one of them that she looked a lot like Zoe Kravitz, one of Fassbender’s exes. Apparently he has more then one “type”.

  4. Minxx says:

What a surprise, I’m shocked, shocked! .. LOL. Not really. I mean, she knew very well what was going to happen because she had it promised. That’s why she was so sure. No matter how big the talent, without the backing she’s getting from HW, she’d be lost in a sea of other pretty, fairly talented girls. The way she’s being promoted (Vogue cover? Seriously?), she’ll probably get an Oscar. Good for her, why not. And in 5 years people will be asking what happened to her career. Brie Larsen or Saoirse Ronan may not get covers or big hype right now, but they have a lasting talent and, more importantly, charisma and screen presence, which Alicia is, IMO, sorely lacking.

    • Liv says:

Please. She told us so half a year or so ago. Her publicist set her straight I guess, no more pretentious talk.

    • Original T.C. says:

I think all three are equally talented. Alicia is European, those actresses stick around and keep going even after they win awards. It’s America actresses that go away after winning their prize.

I think some who don’t like her think she is just a pretty face wanting fame. They initially wanted to reduce her to a “Fassbender hookup” but she got roles before dating Fassy. Then a “Harvey’s girl” but it turned out that Danish girl is not a Harvey film, so a new “talentless pretty face” narrative has to be applied.

It’s as though only plain looking actresses are given credit for their talent. You can’t be desired by men AND be talented apparently.

      • Gina says:

“It’s as though only plain looking actresses are given credit for their talent. You can’t be desired by men AND be talented apparently.”

Thank you! I hate how bitter people sound about her success. So what if she could be more humble? I hate false modesty and if you put in the work, have the right support around you, then why shouldn’t you reach for the stars?

It’s like beautiful girls aren’t allowed to show their ambition or they become ‘conniving’ and heaven forbid they end up dating a celebrity you fancy…

And Brie Larson or Saoirse Ronan get plenty of magazine covers.

      • Saks says:

All of this. Also Alicia is really talented, multilingual and she is very likable in her interviews. I really don’t understand the hate towards her.

    • k. says:

Ex Machina is a British independent sci-fi. She was promised.. what? The three movies in contention were Tulip Fever,The Loght Between Oceans and The Danish Girl,on paper prestigious and baity movies. She was probably right. Rooney Mara has two Vogue covers, the first before her Oscar nod. Why not Vikander who is having an amazing year?

    • k. says:

+1 Her narrative is that she’s a “pretty talentless face” backed by HW. Ex Machina is a British sci-fi,Vikander is winning critics prizes. Minxx has decided that the explanation is HW LOL The Danish Girl is not a Harvey film but he’s somewhat pushing it too. Embarrassing.

    • Josefina says:

I disagree. She carried Ex-Machina all the way through. She was charismatic and intriguing playing a bloody robot.

    • CornyBlue says:

Alicia is not lacking in charisma? It is very much possible to drag down Alicia without immediately dragging other women in it .

    • Farhi says:

Is it a coincidence that both actresses you like – Larsen and Ronan are linked to the prince TH projects?
If Alicia is not good enough who is good enough ( let’s exclude any of the actresses linked to TH for the purity of the discussion)?

    • KCAT says:

It’s not about talent with this one. Some people don’t like someone who’s rammed down our throats, entitled, and gets special treatment. It’s a turn off. I don’t watch a movie because of your fashion spread, hook-up or whatever. She might have some potential, but her mouth and pr messed that up. We have tones of interesting, humble actors to place our focus. The clean up may work on the gullible or fashion mag fans, but not on fans of serious actors. I tried with her. Not any more.

  5. Armenthrowup says:

She’s so naturally pretty, I love her understated looks. Congrats on the noms – I just saw Ex Machina (and was bored, I gotta be honest) but she was very good in it (as was Domhall). Looks wise she kind of reminds me of a young Isabella Rossellini but that’s just me.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think she’s very pretty, too, and also like her styling. Very young and fresh. Although I said that the other day and another poster got mad and said I didn’t want her to grow up. So let me be clear, by “young” I mean in her twenties.

    • NUTBALLS says:

I think she’s gorgeous and I love that she has a more casual style on the RC. Happy for her noms and even if she’s not surprised at them (I’m not), it’s probably best to fake it.

    • Josefina says:

I like that ordinary prettiness of her, too. She’s pretty in a more relatable, girl-next-door kind of way. I love her bedroom eyes.

      • Minxx says:

Yep, she looks vapid (“bedroom eyes”) on most photos. Gaping mouth appeals to men, I suppose. I get a passive-aggressive vibe from her on the top of bland and boring.

      • Farhi says:

I don’t get a passive-aggressive from her at all. Her vibe is like a gentle pleasant light.

  6. KB says:

Does she have a lot of screen presence? I haven’t gotten to see any of the films she’s been in yet, but her photographs are like watching beige paint dry.

    • Pondering thoughts says:

Her screen presence is a lot better than any pictures of her. I am not a big fan of her but she is talented and works hard. She seems a bit too convinced of herself sometimes. But I guess you need that attitude if you want to make it in showbusiness.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Watch Royal Affair on Netflix, and Ex Machina / Testament of Youth on DVD. Yes, she does have a presence. She was great in all of them.

      • Minxx says:

She barely registered in the Royal Affair. Mads Mikkelsen carried the movie, he’s fantastic in everything. I nearly walked out of U.N.C.L.E., she irritated me so much. Debicki made me stay though 🙂

    • KCAT says:

      I know zzzzzzz

  7. MisJes says:

I know most people didn’t enjoy her in Testament of Youth, but I thought she was amazing – she brought that memoir to life, and outshone all of her cast mates (a difficult feat, given her direct opposite was Kit Harrington, who had his GOT following tuning in only for him).

  8. Pondering thoughts says:

Well, she has worked hard and she is definitely talented. I think giving her Oscar nominations was okay. There are others who think they deserve more for doing less (Hello Kate Middleton). Or others who think that sleeping with a Hollywood bigwig will turn into a career push for them.

  9. Pedro45 says:

This is as something that I have never understood about Hollywood. Famous actors are so often hyped for nothing and yet are required by some unstated law to downplay their actual accomplishments and hard work. Why shouldn’t she be proud of her year?

  10. Bishg says:

You can’t blame her for being surprised.
Even if she definitely expected the nominations, you can’t never be sure. It’s all about politics in Hollywood, much like in the “real” world. One minute you are the front runner and then some power player decides it’s time to shuffle the cards, makes a phone call and you’re nowhere to be seen.
Besides, sometimes keeping your head down and your expectations low is a way to protect yourself from eventual failure. Surely she could rely on a very likely chance to be nominated, but that doesn’t mean she had it locked.
(Think about Jennifer Aniston and her delusional Oscar campaign last year)..
I believe she’s genuinely ecstatic and I very much root for her. It’s not a crime to be bluntly ambitious and again , if “she” was a “he”, we wouldn’t even be discussing her past interview.
    Go Alicia!

    • ell says:

i like her, and i actually think she’s quite talented, but we would totally be discussing that interview if she were a man and we would say he’s up his own arse. come on, little to do with sexism here. it’s good to be ambitious as you don’t get anywhere without it, however you should try to be gracious about it as well. if she had said “i worked very hard so i hope things go well” it would have sounded quite different.

      • Farhi says:

Not everyone can have a PHD in public relations. I see no issue with what she said. She could’ve worded it a bit differently, she was too honest. Now she is obviously being coached on what to say, Is the goal to eliminate all the honesty in public speech?
I think people on CB and the CB authors themselves are too hard on many actors and celebrities.
CB posters intimidate me as well , too many of them seem to have public relations or English literature., law and humanities backgrounds, and when turned against some poster or celebrity who is not equally well equipped the result can be the same as bringing a sword to a gun fight. Hopelessly outmatched. But it doesn’t make our point of view less valid.

      • ell says:

lol i wouldn’t call that a phd in public relation, just general awareness on how you come across, which is something everyone should have even in real life.

“I think people on CB and the CB authors themselves are too hard on many actors and celebrities.”

well, it’s a gossip blog called celebitchy with the word bitchy in it, what exactly do you expect? *some* people are too hard and *some* call them out sometimes. it’s generally a pretty respectful place though.

      • Farhi says:

“General awareness” doesn’t translate well from culture to culture. The same words can be taken very differently by Americans vs.British vs. French vs. Swedes etc. etc. From what I see of Swedish celebrities they are not trained in the art of PC speak from childhood like their American counterparts.

For Americans it is hard to imagine it because this is how they grew up, it starts at school, but it is not the same everywhere. In fact, this is a big part of the reason the rest of the world calls Americans hypocrites and Americans themselves don’t see it.

As for “bitchy” CB excuse, I heard it many times but it is just that – an excuse. People wouldn’t talk like the do here to someone’s face.

      • ell says:

        1- I’m not american.
2- general awareness has very little to do with pc speak, it’s about empathy.
3- you don’t know me, so you don’t know how i talk to people in real life.
        4- you assume too much.

      • Farhi says:

Ell, I didn’t mean you personally when I talked about CB participants. And I gathered you are not an American. This was all general, I will not be naming any names as I am not interested in fights.
I’d like people to be gentler and more tolerant even on a place called “bitchy”. As I commented earlier their social media personas leak into the real world without them even noticing.
Of course I realize nobody cares about what I think or what I would like. It is just a discussion.

  11. manta says:

Why couldn’t her surprise be genuine? She said earlier in the year that she hoped she’d have 3 films in contentions, not that she necessarily expected 3 nominations for her personnally.
She hoped/expected her projects would get notice, possibly as ensemble cast, direction, scenarios and that some of that light would be brought on her, you know as a member of a team. The personal distinction isa gamble, and yes, even if everybody in you entourage or the press predicts accolades, the surprise effect is still possible.
Maybe I’m just biased because I enjoyed the performances of her I’ve seen so far.

    • TreadStyle says:

Exactly, this! She said her films, she never said she expected to recieve individual nominations. To me that’s very complimentary to everyone who worked on a film, you are talking about the film as a whole being worthy, not just the part you played. Never once has this girl said “I personally hope to win an Oscar one day”…. But you know what? Many actors and actresses have said that. This girl is proud of the films she’s involved in. She seems to always be laughing w co stars during any interview or red carpets and they also seem to laugh w her. To me it seems she must be very happy to be a part of each of her projects and it shows in her interactions. I like her a lot and think she’s beautiful. She marches to get own beat and I think that’s what’s moving her forward.

  12. CK says:

I can understand her being surprised about the globes. She wasn’t getting much traction in the awards circuit for Ex Machina (because she was getting it in the same category for TDG) and she was placed into the crowded Best Actress in a drama category for TDG this go round alongside Rooney Mara. Due to these reasons, her nominations wasn’t as assured as folks make them out to be. The Ex Machina nomination was especially surprising considering she hasn’t been working the circuit for it at all. I’m sure there was a quiet freakout on the part of her team when the GGs announced that she’d be competing in lead for TDG after they did all the press pushing to have her as a supporting actress. The post- GG advertisements for TDG are hilarious because while they mention Eddie’s nom in lead, they completely leave out Vikander’s lead GG nod in order to push her SAG supporting nod more.

  13. perplexed says:

If Pippa took better care of her skin, she could probably look like this girl.

    • Rainbow says:

Pippa wished to look like Alicia. She looks fresh, young and naturally pretty while Pippa is dull and average with harsh features.
There’s nothing special about Pippa including her famous butt imo. Even boring Kate has more charisma.

The only thing that they have in common is their brunette hair.

      • perplexed says:

“Pippa wished to look like Alicia”

True, but it’s not like Pippa didn’t have a canvas to work with. She just kind of ruined the canvas. There could have been a resemblance if Pippa didn’t tan so much.

  14. anon says:

“You don’t expect your name to be called.” LOL but I thought you knew, honey. There are people working hard for your nods and it’s pretty fucking boring

  15. SusanneToo says:

Sorry to get OT, but Thursday nite, BBCA – Luther!

  16. Rainbow says:

Maybe i am the minority but actually like her booties. Not paired with this skirt, but with a shorter one or with jeans they would look nice.

    She also has great hair.

  17. Miss M says:

I think she was hoping that everything would work out in 2015 because she believes in the projects she signs? We all know movies can get release delays, etc… Think about “I saw the light”.
She comes off as professional to be, hoping her projects will succeed. I think her ambition is healthy. She does not bother me the least. Quite the contrary, I like her on screen! But, then again, I no longer have a Fassyfever, hahahaha

  18. Asparagus says:

I think she got some good PR advice and is doing the humble me thing now. Good. I think she’s talented and deserves some coverage. She got the US Vogue cover, didn’t she? Congrats to Alicia. I hope she does some other stuff like action and political dramas et cetera, and doesn’t get locked into the ingenue / supportive female character type roles.

    • KCAT says:

“I think she got some good PR advice and is doing the humble me thing now.” well it’s too late. She comes off as entitled and fake.

  19. moon says:

Alicia’s career this past year has been very interesting. It really is a clear case of what works and doesn’t work in PR. Very interesting…

I don’t like her, apparently in this age you can’t dislike someone or have a contrary opinion without being harrassed. But I respect all of you who like her. I still think she’s phony, but I can see why people would buy her image.

She is a Harvey girl though. Her movies in contention aren’t, but he personally pushed for her to have a role in that Bradley Cooper movie and invited her to his table at that gala thing in Cannes. He was pushing hard for her in Cannes. So Minxx wasn’t making things up.

Fassbender and Vikander were both invited to his table at the Amfar event because they have worked with him in Macbeth and Tulip Fever. He showed a footage of Tulip Fever with his other movies in Cannes.Nothing strange. In Burnt she has a cameo.

      • Moon says:

If you’ve read her earlier press, you’ll know Harvey personally called her in for that role (she mentions the call) and that he was pushing for her heavily. This when she was still a relative unknown more known for being fassbender’s hookup and ‘it girl’, not golden globe nominee.

I don’t buy her gentle demeanor. I’ve wayched her interviews and she looks coached and fake. I personally really dislike phony people, actors or not, and Alicia strikes me as someone of that vein.

      • lisa says:

She was called after shooting Tulip Fever. She shot her scenes some days before going to New Zealand to shoot The Light Between Oceans with Fassbender. I don’t understand why you’re calling her relative unknown and why you’re saying that he was pushing for her heavily. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/movies/moviesnow/la-et-mn-cannes-2015-hateful-eight-tarantino-trailer-weinstein-20150514-story.html
She had already shot The Danish Girl,The Man from Uncle. Ex Machina and Testament of Youth came out before the Cannes film festival.

I’m not being disingenuous, but why the hatred of Harvey W and his muses? He’s not ALWAYS a casting couch person, isn’t that true? Part of his job IS to find the good actors and push them, right? Esp. if his company has a movie coming out with the actor starring. Right?

  20. Eru says:

Well she’ll never be big Movie Star. Simply because she is boring and has nothing interesting about her. She’ll be one of those actors that are suddenly in everything for few years (mainly being supporting) and then just quietly vanish. And people are like: “Oh yeah, remember that one? I wonder what happened to her/him”.

Jessica Chastain could have been that one. But she is likable and people like her. And she makes good choices and is around being star. While there is just something off with Alicia. She is cold. In interviews, on red carpets. Has no emotions. You’ll forget about her the moment press will stop putting her in your face every day.

I dunno if she’ll disappear. I have a hunch she’s going to win the oscar. She seems to have a way of manipulating her way into the spotlight. Granted, she has a modicum of talent and she’s very hardworking, but let’s be real – talent alone isn’t always enough in hollywood, many other factors come to play. But I do agree that she’ll fade somewhat from the wider public’s view. I feel like she’ll end up playing supporting roles and being a prestige movie girl, and a respected actress. Which is a huge achievement, but I don’t think she’d be happy with that. Girl wants to be a movie star with a huge following, and that won’t happen because a crafted personality can only get you so far. She affects a sweet demeanour but it’s always seemed hollow to me. When a person’s sweet to win votes, and not because it’s who they actually are…

I agree with you about Jess. I’m biased because I’ve met her and she is the most genuine person ever. But her interviews are strong minded, intelligent, and full of her personality.

At the end of the day there is no convincing people who adore AV and are keen to dismiss any criticism of her as simply Fassbender backlash (how easy!). But I hope that actresses of a better calibre and person get the opportunity to shine.

    • Minxx says:

Eru, moon.. I could not agree with you more. I also feel that Alicia will get an Oscar this year, her PR machine is in full swing and nothing will stop it. But as I said: good for her, let’s see what happens later. IMO she has no staying power, no personality, warmth or charm that makes the public want to see more of her. She does not come across as genuine or likeable. She will play supporting roles for a few years after the Oscars but she’ll fade soon after.

    hahahaah.
No wonder I couldn’t find any mention many parents.
I thought you said Alicia has all these MOMS, not Noms.

Guess what.. I love her. And I hope she will stick around. Full stop.
