Jennifer Lawrence: ‘I puked yesterday. I’m a puker. I’m a big-time puker.’

Here are some assorted photos of Jennifer Lawrence out and about in NYC over the past few days. She’s been wearing that grey and cream coat a lot and I know why: because it’s FAB. Great coat! Jennifer has been making the rounds to promote Joy, which has already earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy. She stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night – here’s a lengthy clip of her interview:

She joked about losing her Southern accent (I don’t think she’s lost it completely), whether her publicist hates her, and puking, of course, because she’s J-Law and she has to talk about bodily functions. She got a stomach virus while working on Joy in Boston last year and this is what she said:

“I got a stomach virus. I was puking and the poor guy—I had to make out with somebody—we were like spinning and I’d start puking and then I’d like do mouth wash and be like, ‘Hey, you ready?’ Licking my chops like, ‘Ugh, let’s do it!’ I puked yesterday. I’m a puker. I’m a big-time puker. I think I have, like, nervous…I think that I don’t stop working, because I’m a show pony. I don’t have a choice. So, I just keep going, I think, until eventually my body’s just like, ‘If we don’t make her barf or pass out, she won’t stop.’ I get, like, Lindsay Lohan grade exhaustion, but without any drugs or alcohol. I’m always in bed early, but I’m still tired.”

[From E! News]

While J-Law is America’s Farty Sweetheart™, I think it’s a mistake to name-check Lindsay Lohan in any way. We’re almost done with Lindsay at this point – she’s not even worth the effort to use as a punchline. And just you wait, now that Jennifer has used Lindsay’s name in an unkind way, Lindsay will totally sue her.

Also: I’m so glad I’m not a puker. I’ve been battling a bad cold the past few days and I coughed so much yesterday that I almost threw up, and I said a little thank you to the universe because I was able to hold it back. I can’t even imagine puking on the reg.

Ugh. I feel for her. I have the worst gag reflex in the world so I tend to be a puker as well.

    • SnarkySnarkers says:

Is it just me or does she get a stomach flu every few months?

I’ve had terrible morning sickness lately. The other day I was walking my dog with my husband and a truck went by that reeked of exhaust. Out of nowhere I started dry heaving from the smell and thought I was going to be sick in the bushes. I pulled myself together and we went to the store afterwards. Bad idea. By the time we pulled into the parking lot I told my husband, I cannot go in because I will puke. So he braved it alone. It felt like he took an eternity and I thought so many times about opening the car door and yacking in the parking lot in front of complete strangers but didn’t. By the time he came back though I couldn’t take it anymore and grabbed one of the bags with the groceries dumped them onto the floorboard and threw up.

Being pregnant is no joke. JLaw is gonna have some hilarious pregnancy stories if or when she does.

      • minx says:

I threw up in parking lots, in the car, just about everywhere when I was pregnant both times. I had to plan my day around vomiting. It takes over your life.
People who haven’t experienced it really don’t know what it’s like–it’s not just queasiness that you can cure by eating crackers. It’s throwing up so badly that you are incontinent. At the time I didn’t care if I would have miscarried with my daughter, that’s how bad it was–just wanted it over. Fortunately I had two healthy wonderful babies.

      • SnarkySnarkers says:

Its definitely all day all night sickness thats made worse by not eating, even though eating is the last thing you want to do. I was throwing up with a migraine the other day. Super fun. It felt like I was being stabbed in my eye while puking. How long did your m/s last? I’m 9 weeks 2 days so hopefully just another month or so to go.

      • Alex says:

She gets them around promo time mostly with all that travel. She seemed to be okay this year but last year during MJ1 she and Josh were super sick…like both were visibly ill and I seem to remember Josh missing some promo because of it. I’m guessing since she went straight to shooting joy right after and the intense winter that she probably never recovered and just got sick again. That and she sounds like a person that gets sick when anxious. My friend is like that and I always feel terrible for her when it happens. She has a whole ritual just to keep her nerves down so she doesn’t get sick.

  2. Spittair says:

:/ Ok, we get it, you’re normal.

  3. Erinn says:

I’ve grown up as a puker. If my younger brother puked, all bets were off, and mom had to deal with two puking kids. Just the sound of puking gets my gag reflexes all riled up.

Between being sick as a kid, and having bad reactions to whatever drug they gave me, being a stress puker, and having migraines, I’m pretty much pro at this point, as sad as that is.

I’m to the point where I can tell when it’s coming and make a beeline out to the washroom or at the very least a trash can, or side of the road. I had a close scare after having so much drugs pumped into me from a bout of kidney stones – made the mistake of getting a Tim Horton’s Iced Capp after being released … and apparently that doesn’t bode well with the percocet that was already in my stomach. I was buying some gatorade at the gas station, and the whole way to the register I could feel it coming… and managed to hold it back until I got outside, and away from other humans – husband half laughing in the car waiting for me because he knew I had clearly been fighting it.

Him on the other hand – rarely gets pukey sick. And when he does – he has no idea when he’s about to. He has to sit with a bucket.

    • mayamae says:

I’m pretty much a pro at puking, too. I’m never caught by surprise. I make sure the toilet’s sparkling clean or I’m that much sicker.

  4. Lizzie McGuire says:

I’m the worst puker in the world which is why I try to avoid puking. When I go out & drink tequila & other horrible cheap drinks I get, & I know for sure that is between puking or having the worst hangover in the world. I choose the hangover, always.

  5. Mark says:

Quirky real girl jen strikes again, i’m pretty sure she had a story about amy schumer #squadgirls

    • Hannah says:

Oh, I see, Colbert got all the right words in, requested by Hollywood master publicist:
      “Relatable” – Check
      “Normal” – Check
      “Nice” – Check
      “Human” – Check
      “Mention bodily functions” – Check

  6. Pandy says:

    I’m getting JLaw fatigue …

    • Bettyrose says:

I was her biggest defender, but she’s starting to cross a line with me. She’ll never fall as hard as LiLo did, but she’s only a few years shy of these roles drying up and being retired to the vaults, so a little humility might be good now.

      • debs says:

lol, as if Lindsay aged out of roles.

So far as I’ve seen Jen does just fine in the humility department. Anymore humble and she’d have people claiming she’s being fake to try to be relateable.

        Oh wait.

    • Jib says:

Oh, me, too!! She really does act like a fool sometimes. Actually, most of the time when she’s being interviewed. I used to puke a lot, too, but never felt the need to announce it to anyone. And why is she so exhausted??? She’s acting, with lots of free time between takes; she’s not digging ditches in 105 degree weather. Poor, poor Jen – puking and exhausted – she has such a difficult life.

  7. Hannah says:

I think she’s trying to get back on Lindsay, who made a remark about her being a phoney a while ago. Anyhow, it was not a good move on her behalf to mock an addict if she wants to keep her false image.

  8. swack says:

Puking is the last thing I want to do. I will do everything in my power not to puke. The only times (other than being drunk) I have is when I had food poisoning or when I took a pain pill on an empty stomach. And I have kiddos & grandkiddos and sometimes it takes my whole will power not the react.

  9. lower-case deb says:

i am so jealous of people who can puke honest to goodness. sometimes when i have a stomach virus, i can feel it in my throat that just one puke i will feel better. but i would just be dry heaving over a bucket or whatever and just made myself lightheaded. i’ll end up panting like a sick horse or one of those people on medical dramas that are dying (the wheezing etc), with a burning stomach that needed to be expelled but i can’t puke or poop at the time i need it to be.

i don’t always have this problem. but when i was a kid i was given ipecac for something and it did me in. 🙁 now, i found a herbal tonic thing that i can take a spoonful of and it makes me have better gag reflex. but it feels like it made my stomach roil kinda like making a volcano inside me, i don’t know if it’s good in the long run or not.

    • FingerBinger says:

That’s a very strange thing to be jealous of.

      • Lex says:

Nah I understand it. I always feel way better after I get it all up (whatever it is, booze or food or whatever nasty). It would suck to be in that limbo where you can’t make yourself feel better without puking but you can’t puke!? Hell!

      • Alex says:

It sounds weird but I rarely if ever puke and some days you just want the crap OUT of your system. Sometimes when I’m really ill all I do is cry cause I want to just be able to throw up and get it over with

  10. FingerBinger says:

Lawrence talks an awful lot about body fluids and functions.

  11. Reine_Didon says:

Aside from her attitude “I puke I pee I clumps therefore I am cool” I think she’s truly exhausted from work. Shrs been working for 3 years non stop and I’ve already heard her complain at Kimmel and at Letterman. It is like a Help cry that no one hears. I hope we will not see a surmenage à la Britney…. everyone deserves a break.

  12. Bettyrose says:

Not to defend LiLo, but that joke was really insensitive. It’s one thing for us to laugh at Lindsay who was given a million chances and snorted them all, but JLaw is the luckiest most privileged starlet ever. She gets the teen and adult roles. She has noms tossed at her right and left. And she never had to suffer the Disney casting couch. Shading LiLo should be beneath her.

    • A says:

Casting couch? That’s what Lindsay said Jlaw used right after those nude pics of jennifer got out and she was literally posing nude on a couch.
      I thought that was interesting.

      • Lex says:

Yea some of those “for my boyfriend” photos were odd as they were clearly taken by someone else…
Not that I care either way – get it girl! She’s rich and powerful and successful. She did whatever she did to get there and so be it.

      • Bettyrose says:

My point was that the Disney casting couch is for little girls. I’m sure many adult women find themselves on casting couches too, but I tend to believe that Lindsay was sexually abused at a very young age, so however much we laugh at her crack shenanigans, someone like JLaw, who was not used up and spit out as a teenager, shouldn’t publicly shade Lindsay. For the simple fact that she probably knows exactly what Lindsay endured and knows she had it easier herself.

  13. Miss V says:

    Ugh. Please. Make her stop.

  14. Miss Grace Jones says:

I get frequent migraines and nausea with it so I tend to vomit more than what’s probably average (once over the summer I was throwing up every other day for what seemed like a week). I’ve gotten so used to having intense nausea from time to time I sometimes induce the throwing up just to get it over with and the headache can go away.

    • maggie says:

You should have your adrenal glands checked. I used to get migraines all of the time and puke to get rid of them. I found out I had aldosteronism, had the tumour removed and my headaches are gone. It was so debilitating.

  15. Talie says:

Lindsay has said nasty things about her publicly, so this may be payback.

    • Anname says:

“Never shoot down”. Lindsay is so beneath her in the celebrity hierarchy, I think any payback comes off badly.

  16. Robin says:

Oh, just be quiet, Jennifer. Please just be quiet.

  17. db says:

JLaw, I really really like you, but…I think we need some time apart. Just a little break. It’s me, not you. I just think we need separate experiences so we have more to share with each other when we reunite. Mmkay sweetie?

  18. kimbers says:

Like that she acknowledged that she was a show pony bc she is.

  19. snusnud says:

Puking from anxiety is the worst. Some years ago I had very bad anxiety and when it got really bad I puked for two months. Not everyday, but very often. It was really bad. Then I suddenly stopped worrying about stuff and I havent puked since, except two times when I got really nervous and had a panick attack.

  20. Farhi says:

Is that what it takes to be America’s sweetheart – talk about body functions because everyone can relate to that and is not going to call you stuck up.
It is working obviously. But I am not sure it is flattering to us as Americans.

  21. iheartgossip says:

She was so awkward and ‘odd’ on the Colbert show, last night. Her ‘cool girl next door’ stchick isn’t working for her any longer. I expected her to trip and stumble as she walked across the stage. But, get dat money Jen. Once you hit 35, you’ll have zero roles to play.

    • Revolving says:

I’ve found her odd in most interviews. She just seems affected in her unaffectedness. After Chris Martin called it off, she drew a moustacheand walked around laughing and pulled some other funny stunts. I don’t think she’s anywhere as together as she likes to pretend to be.

  22. Caz says:

There comes a point where everything has already been said in countless interviews. I just don’t find many celebrities interesting, likeable or relatable. It’s all just endless PR grabs. Media over-saturation x 1000%

PR people…don’t put them out there if there’s really nothing to say.

    Less is more.

  23. Fluff says:

Oh man. Do not get me started on this 🙁 My body cannot deal with throwing up. I pass out, i shake, i have physical pain before it happens, as it happens, after it happens. I get cold sweats, i just cannot handle it. My pain treshold is low & my doc said I have sensitive digestion as in more feeling in it then other humans. I have no idea, all I know i am adopting. Cannot imagine giving birth to a baby.

  24. Fluff says:

Poor kid. I doubt it’s PR. Sounds like she’s being worked to death and all the stories are a passive aggressive (maybe unconscious) cry for help. But of course she’s so valuable they’ll just keep working her like a donkey.

  25. Alldamnday says:

Maybe if she washed her hands more frequently, she wouldn’t get sick so often?

  26. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I thought she was hilarious. 🙂

  27. AnotherDirtyMartini says:

I hate puking. The fact that my face is that close to the toilet makes me hurl until I think I’m dying. Please don’t get me this year, stomach bug.

  28. KCAT says:

    Both are nauseating.
