John Krasinski shows off his new ripped body for Men’s Health: are you feeling it?

JK1

John Krasinski stars in the new Michael Bay film, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi. The trailer confused the hell out of me and I think (?) the film is loosely based on the real terrorist attack on the American consulate in Libya in 2012, but with a Michael Bay twist: “What if there was a team of elite Navy SEALS on the ground to rescue the ambassador in real time?” Krasinski plays the main Navy SEAL, and for the role, he got jacked like a SEAL. Krasinski shows off his new jacked body with Men’s Health, and between the muscles, his lanky limbs and the beard, he’s really doing it for me. This is exactly my type – I love a tall, lanky guy, a love a guy with a beard and I love a guy with some muscles. You can see JK’s Men’s Health slideshow here and here are some highlights from the interview:

He worked with his trainer Jason Walsh & he worked out five days a week, twice a day: “I gotta be honest: It was brutal at times. We did tons of metabolic work, dragging sleds and all this stuff I’ve seen NFL players do.”

He became addicted to it: “I think there’s a part of you where you become addicted to it. I walk with better posture and a little more presence. I was more of a sit-in-the-corner guy. Now I’m a lot less of that. Getting stronger every day is thrilling.”

Favorite workout song: “What More Can I Say,” Jay Z.

Favorite exercise: “Bench press. There’s that number you can keep pushing. It’s almost a game instead of a workout.”

Least favorite workout: “Bulgarian split squat.”

His wife, Emily Blunt: He says Emily is his “favorite thing to talk about.” He recalled how she invited him to a screening of The Young Victoria just three weeks after they began dating. “I remember watching that movie, and the entire time being like, ‘I wonder who she’s going to date after this?'”

[From Men’s Health & E! News]

That’s such a cute story about Emily! It always seemed that Emily and John fit perfectly together right from the start. Like, they got serious almost immediately and then they were just John & Emily, the Hollywood couple that everyone loved. As for John and his new jacked body and Michael Bay film… it will be interesting to see if he keeps it up, if he becomes the Everyman Action Hero now.

Yes, from head to toe. I’ve always like John.

    • mom2two says:

Absolutely. I always loved John and thought he was the total package with looks and personality. He and Emily got serious very fast but I think it’s one of the those cases when you know it’s right, it’s right.
I never got the impression he was out of shape before this movie, just that he was lean and lanky before it and now packed on muscle. He has not had much luck in the box office, so I hope this movie helps him out some. The good thing for him is that he does other things besides acting (directing, his movie The Hollars with Anna Kendrick will air at Sundance, producing, and writing) but he’s someone to me that deserves to be a bigger star.

      • coco says:

Agree, he’s doing it for me. Actually, he started doing it for me in “Aloha” with the military uniform and strong, quite-type thing he had going (only good thing about the film, really). This is just bonus now.

      • susiecue says:

YAAAASS have loved him since The Office. He’s such a dreamboat!

    • Ripley says:

Because he seems like a good guy too… Smart, funny and slightly nerdy. All of which makes him more attractive.

  2. Tiffany says:

    No.

    • BossyKat says:

      Thank you. NO x 2.

I almost get the feeling that this is the kind of mag cover that ‘Jim Halperin,’ on The Office would look at the camera about and give one of his trademark ‘Is this guy for realz?’ looks, while trying not to laugh.

Also, if I live the rest of my life without hearing the word ‘Benghazi,’ it will be too soon. This seems like a nonsense movie (michael ‘transformers’ bay? Really?) that Faux News and the tea party will cream themselves over.

      • Betsy says:

You’d enjoy Andrew O’Hehir’s review over at Salon. (I’d link it, but Salon crashes on my iPad so many times before it works it would take fifteen minutes.)

      • Rhiley says:

I love everything about this comment and my sentiments exactly regarding Benghazi. Let’s have a conversation about the fact that more people have died this year from gun violence than there have been days in the year in the United States.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

It does seem like a dumb movie, but I think the actual story is important, and it got swept under the rug because people are “tired of hearing about it.” I feel so sorry for the families of those men who begged for more security dozens of times and were left to be slaughtered, then people like you don’t want to think about it it because people you admire failed on such a major way, so no one will ever be held accountable. The bravery of those few men who went against orders to try to save their countrymen will never be lauded. They aren’t even called by their names. It’s always Ambassador Stevens and “four others.” But we wouldn’t want to bore you.

      • DesertReal says:

The fact that the tea baggers and faux news haven’t vilified the people in charge that ignored the circumstances leading up to 9/11, makes me roll my eyes every time I hear them mention Benghazi. Then they picked Iraq to go head to head with, and not Saudi Arabia, despite the fact that most of the hijackers were from their country. Not to downplay the missteps that happened leading up to the Benghazi incident, but I strongly believe that the super socially conservatives hopped on that bandwagon and drove it to a point where it became beyond ridiculous. Just sayin.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

So, we get the country we deserve. Our leaders can put us in dangerous situations, ignore our pleas for help, leave us to die and then lie to the public and get away with it. Why? Because Americans have the attention spans so gnats. All they have to do is wait 15 minutes for people to get bored. That’s why there’s no accountability. They’d rather go look at selfies on snapchat. No wonder we are in the shape we’re in with the abysmal lineup to be our next president.

      • Greenieweenie says:

Omg. Do you think he and Emily Blunt are Hollywood Republicans?! No!

    • mimif says:

Does not compute. Unable to rectify.

    • Katie says:

No for me as well. The face and the ripped body don’t match. Besides, I always feel like muscled men like this are self absorbed gym rats. Granted I don’t know john. He could be perfectly lovely. That’s just the impression I get.

  3. Elisa the I. says:

I can’t stop looking at his ears on the cover shoot. Sry. He looks so goofy.

  4. Farhi says:

“He says Emily is his “favorite thing to talk about.” ”

Owww, this is what I am talking about! Be there for your woman, flaunt it.

But I don’t like his pumped up body, I think a slimmer frame went better with his personality and face. Those cute puppy eyes just don’t go with this new body.

    • GingerCrunch says:

You said it way more diplomatically than I was gonna (regarding his bod), so I thank you for that!

    • kibbles says:

He looked chubbier in the face before he got ripped (not that he ever had a chubby bod) and the chubbiness made his face look better. Now, he has more muscle but his face has gotten slimmer and it doesn’t look as good in my opinion. It will be interesting if he can be the next Everyman Action Hero like Chris Pratt. Even though Chris Pratt was initially much more out of shape than Krasinski, Pratt has handsomer facial features, so now that he is in shape he looks much hotter than Krasinski. I honestly don’t think Krasinski will ever have the star power as Pratt though. Krasinski is good looking but in a very normal guy kind of way. He doesn’t have the IT factor or sex appeal.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, there are some men ( most me for me) who just don’t look good all pumped up.

    • Priya says:

I think Emily seems like a dour person. I’m jealous. It seems like all the loving husbands have such meh wives who aren’t particularly loving.

  5. missmerry says:

Does it seem like the media/hollywood is switching from pressuring women to pressuring men? By having people like this guy and Pratt talk about how great is it to be fit? How sloppy and tired they were before and now they’re amazing and it’s all amazing and it’s a game?

maybe I just didn’t pay attention as much, but it seems like pressure is growing on men now.

either way, healthy is fine, but now he kinda looks like a guy who had to build muscle to gain confidence and now hides behind it, hoping people will pay attention to the physical rather than his words or behavior, whereas when he wasn’t all muscle-y, he seems confident because he had a good personality and had self-confidence that didn’t stem from his appearance (well, maybe his handsome face, but that’s a little different).

but maybe he just couldn’t get any jobs looking like Jim Halpert anymore…

    • Elle says:

Loved Jim Halpert!! Especially when he’d side eye the viewers in regards to Michael Scott’s shenanigans.
And yes I do agree with you. I think the pressure is definitely growing for men and will continue to. Now many average men seem to be striving so hard to get bigger/real cut because that is the ideal being put forth by our media/culture. Perhaps if it is taken far enough there will be a bit of a blow back when men start to really identify with what women have faced for ages? I dunno

    • Josefina says:

I wouldn’t say it’s a switch at all, really. You still get millions of stories about mothers losing baby weight in just a couple of months and how they did it. Men are just starting to worry more about their appearance, about being fit, about looking good.

    • Jay says:

Men are pressured to be fit and muscular, which is achievable (to some degree) with proper diet and exercise. Women are pressured to obtain features that only the plastic surgeon can give. Not a fair comparison at all.

      • Priya says:

        True

      • Elle says:

Men are not pressured to maintain features? Definitely not to the extent of women but look at Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck.. These are men who’ve had work done on their faces due to similar pressures.

      • Greenieweenie says:

Brad Pitt was always beautiful. It’s one thing to try to hold onto your youth in an industry that rewards it. But as others said, it’s another thing to try to create features that aren’t natural and magically happen to confirm to men’s sexual ideals (do you think women would be insecure about breast size on a planet without men? I don’t think so).

    • lucy2 says:

“but maybe he just couldn’t get any jobs looking like Jim Halpert anymore…”

I think this may be it. He was great as Jim, I had such a crush on him in the early years of the show, but it seems like his film career post-show is sort of stuck. Maybe this is an attempt to be seen a different way, and not be Jim Halpert anymore. I think he looks good either way, but definitely different.

  6. Momoko says:

Why does he look like Calvin Harris on the cover?

  7. embertine says:

Not generally, but if you wanted to send me a video of him and Chris Evans naked wrestling, that wouldn’t go amiss.

  8. benchwarmer says:

I thought he looked attractive on The Office, he’s the type that looks better when he’s smiling and not making this serious face. The body is Wow! But I’m not feeling the beard.

    • Greenieweenie says:

Something about the beard reminds me of Raffi or Mr Rogers or something equally…80s….

  9. ninal says:

He is so cute, pumped or not. It’s his height and sweet face that make him adorable to me.

  10. Jules says:

I’ve always found him attractive. I’m not sure I like the ripped look on him though, but as long as he’s happy with it that’s what matters.

  11. Reine_Didon says:

Baby face on hot bod? EW ! 😀

  12. Isa says:

The style of the photos makes his face look weird. And I hate the raised eyebrow expression…it seems to be taking over my newsfeed on Facebook.

  13. Jules says:

Another tall, lanky bearded guy I like is Zachary Levi. Yum! He and John resemble each other a bit I think.

  14. OSTONE says:

    Bring Jim Halpert back!!!!

  15. Bridget says:

I’ve never been a big Krasinksi fan. He’s struck me as the guy that ditched all the regulars once he made his fancy friends (ie Clooney, Damon, etc). I am so glad he didn’t end up being Captain America. Funny enough I love Emily Blunt, though. And he clearly knew she was a catch and locked her down immediately.

    • Pinky says:

Someone he went to school with told me one day he just stopped returning his calls, once he found a little fame. Too bad.

      • misery chick says:

        @ Pinky-

Yeah, that is too bad. I read several places that he invited no one from ‘The Office’ to his fancy movie-star wedding on George’s yacht, WTF?!? Def removed the swoon factor from Jim/John. He wishes he had one tenth of Steve Carell’s career; he has less than a tenth of Steve’s talent, kindness and humility.

      • lucy2 says:

I do like him, but I can also believe this.
It always did seem like he wasn’t terribly close with anyone from the Office, in the way that some of the other cast was.

Steve Carell is awesome, and I am so happy for him and the career he is now having.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Yeah, there’s something about him that’s bit off to me.

  16. claire says:

He looks fantastic. I totally get what he says about how the exercise becomes an addiction and you just feel so much better overall. Kudos to him.

  17. babs says:

He’s hilarious, but no. Not feeling it with him.

  18. ell says:

no. he’s funny and seems lovely, but i don’t find him attractive.

  19. Josefina says:

I like him but, dear God, that seriously sounds like the worst movie ever. I detest Michael Bay and his movies but at least he didn’t pretend his movies were any less stupid than they are. And now he’ll work with actually serious subjects? Get out of here!!

  20. Breakfast Margaritas says:

He looks like a young hot buff Abraham Lincoln. I’d emancipate that.

  21. Sochan says:

Not feeling. Not now, nor ever. So much basic and bland.

  22. a.d. says:

i’ve always loved him from ‘the office’ & always thought he was cute, but here: he’s HOT. & i love he & emily as a couple…they just seem really cute & genuine & down to earth.

  23. Pabena6 says:

Looks related to Tom Hardy now.

  24. jsilly4 says:

Loved him since The Office. Always thought he was attractive because he can be funny and goofy and romantic. My type for sure. He looks great. Good for him! And I think they make a lovely couple.

I am so upset they made such an awful movie out of Something Borrowed because I would have loved to have seen him in Something Blue!!!! I loved that character in the book and he would have been great in it.

  25. anon33 says:

Chicken legs!!! Again! All thee guys skip leg day and it just doesn’t look balanced with their super-jacked upper bodies.

Also, now he eerily resembles a creepy ex-friend of mine and I cannot even.

No. Not doing it for me.

  26. tacos and tv says:

I’m really feeling the nerd faces with the hot bods. I hope that becomes a trend. It’s a geek, bookish face, and then he rips his shirt off and it’s like, what the hell? Adonis had entered the room!

  27. word says:

That cover shot looks as if he’s really upset and disappointed in someone.

  28. Jag says:

I like his body – agreeing that his legs could use a little more work – and like his hair, but his facial expression just takes away the hotness for me. Maybe his mustache is too long as well? I’m trying to decide what it is, e.g. the tight-lipped look paired with the questioning forehead?

  29. jj says:

He looks like the Burger King guy. I’m also sensing Calvin Harris “Look at me I’m hot now” vibes so a big NO.

  30. Minxx says:

I’ve had a soft spot for him since “The Office” – he looks great here but I prefer him not that buff. I really like him and Emily together, they’re obviously very much into each other, this is why he likes to talk about her 🙂

  31. Dorky says:

Nope. He doesn’t pull it off. Plus he has a face that always makes me think of a monkey. He just doesn’t have “it” to be a sexy action type guy. Nope.

  32. PennyLane says:

Eh, he’s from my hometown of Newton, Massachusetts. I get a huge social climber vibe from this guy, which is only reinforced by that story he told about his wife — his implication being that if the roles were reversed and she was the TV actor and he had had a big movie coming out, he would have dumped her in a hot second.

  33. Saphana says:

totally weird, it looks like they photoshopped his face on a ripped body.

  34. roj says:

    Jason Sudeikis’s non-descript substitute.
