Last Wednesday night, Tom Hardy walked the red carpet for The Revenant in LA. He looked especially grumpy and “over it,” and I suspected that his grumpiness was the result of a combination of factors. One, after giving up nearly two years of his life to make this film under terrible circumstances, Tom’s performance is being virtually ignored because everything is all about Getting Leonardo DiCaprio An Oscar. Two, I think Tom probably hated leaving London so soon after his wife gave birth to their baby. Three, Tom didn’t have a dog on the red carpet. I think he just gets depressed when he’s not around dogs.
Anyway, so we’ve established that he was grumpy, perhaps for good reason. It also seems like Tom was acting like a grumpy fussbucket during the junket in LA too. Drew McWeeny at HitFix rage-tweeted his complaints about Tom on Friday. Apparently, Tom made reporters wait four hours, and even then, he was canceling interviews after making reporters wait. You can see the full Twitter rant here. This is what Drew tweeted, in chronological order (and minor edits for obscenities):
I’ll say it: Tom Hardy should stop doing junkets. He’s terrible at them, and he makes it impossible for anyone to do their jobs. F–k him.
Tom Hardy could be set to play me in a movie, and I still wouldn’t interview him about it. Besides, his answers would all be, “Ghbbbbygy.”
I’ve seen Tom Hardy make publicists cry. He chose to take a nap during my scheduled time in Toronto. Today’s REVENANT junket was a joke.
I get it, dude. Being a movie star is a burden. Thanks for making my job impossible because you’re such a delicate f–king flower.
No one HAS to do press or give interviews. But if you’re going to, don’t be a piece of sh-t about it. Thanks.
And, yeah, I considered not saying anything. But my time is worth something, and Tom Hardy is just an actor. No more tip-toeing.
Spoiled babies like Hardy count on the press needing access to them and staying quiet about how badly they behave. Dick move.
You know who was lovely today? Domnhall Gleeson. You know who else was? Will Poulter.
Whoa. Can I just say? I think I’m on Team Drew here. We’ve all seen Tom be dickish to reporters, only we made excuses for him (“they shouldn’t have asked him that!” or “he’s such a feminist for his mumbled one-word answer!”). But the dude/bloke hates doing press and he makes it obvious. He is okay doing long-form print interviews, but God knows how much stress and drama goes into setting up those pieces. The art of the junket is completely different – some actors are great at selling their movies to whomever, they’re great at being pithy and fun and professional. Some actors are not good at it. So… the solution should be “Don’t put Tom Hardy in a junket any time soon.” And “someone tell him that he’s being a giant baby.”
Photos courtesy of WENN.
He’s not being a giant baby – he’s being an unproffesional asshole. Newsflash “bloke” – the millions you get payed are not just for acting. They’re for promotion too. So stick it out and do your fricking job and if you have to complain, complain to your poor wife who has to put up with you. If it too much of a hassle, go act in your local theatre.
I would get if he complained about things like the paparazzi ( which I also think is ungrateful most of the time) but this is his actual job. Prick.
I’m so glad glad Domhnall and Will are nice. They seem lovely in interviews so it’s nice to get a confirmation.
Yup, totally agree. Hardy gets a pass for a lot of things around here, including but not limited to punching his directors, being, like you said, an unprofessional a-hole, rude to journalists, etc. This is not a one time thing and yet I’ve seen people on Celebitchy make excuses for his behaviour time and time again. Other celebrities have been eviscerated for lesser, much more harmless offenses. Here’s hoping that this will finally be an eye-opener for his fan club, although I’m not holding my breath.
And I too am happy to hear that Domhnall is as nice as I thought he is. He’s definitely one of my new celeb crushes and it helps that he also played Bill Weasley.
He was an asshole even in his school days, wasn’t he?
@SugarQuill
Yes. Yes. Yes
Charlize Theron called his behaviour out on the Mad Max set as well.
(We’ll forget about the rumors of him cheating on Charlotte)
@Locke Lamora, I think so. As far as I remember, he’s said in interviews that he’s always been a piece of work. And while I commend him for owning up to it, he seems like he hasn’t learned a thing from all of that, which kind of cancels the first part out for me.
@Jegede, yes! I was just about to edit my comment to include the thing about Charlize, but you beat me to it.
I saw interviews in which he said he was a peice of work, but he said it in a matter of fact way, like “this is who I am, deal with it”. No remorse at all.
So much THIS.
This plus 1,000 Sugar Quill. I’ve never a celeb get more of free pass then this guy. He might be talented, but he also is a jerk-no matter how much he loves dogs.
Good on Drew Mc Weeny for putting him on blast.
But you guys! He didn’t have a pit bull puppy stuffed in is jacket! That would upset me too…..
Dwayne Johnson needs to slap sense into him about junkets.
I’m over this guy.
Talent’s like that.
Isn’t being a douche his bread and butter? He is a one trick pony.
The cinematographer for Mad Max also said Hardy showed up on set several hours late every day, completely ruining the schedule and planned natural lighting.

I lust after The Bloke and rate him very highly as an actor – which is quite unusual for me, since it’s usually one or the other. But I’m absolutely prepared to acknowledge that he can often be an arse of the highest order. Much too often.
Maybe I have an easier time hating on him beacuse I find him very unattractive and in the movies I’ve seen him in he wasn’t all that.
Gleeson is more my cup of tea.
I feel the same, Sixer. I lust and I like him as an actor too. He could learn some grace.
Sixer, stupid question for you. Do you folks across the pond pronounce the R in ARSE? Or is it pronounced the same way we say it over here and just spelled differently?
Bluhare – he does do some good and nice stuff outside of acting, too. But it would be ridiculous to deny his wanker tendencies. Cos it’s not as though he hides them, is it?!
SDM – it’s a long A with the R. Rhymes with farce!
I must have only seen the interviews where he’s in a good mood, ’cause I enjoy The Bloke when he’s yapping to a journo. This kind of behavior that Drew’s describing is unprofessional and unacceptable. I’m genuinely surprised that directors want to work with someone who has a reputation to behave like in the when there are other actors who can fill the bill and be easier to work with. Their jobs are stressful enough as it is without dealing with an obstinate actor.
I do like it when people own their own wanker tendencies. That being said, they don’t have to exhibit them at every opportunity!
Bluhare – I meant us to deny them, not him!
What wanker tendencies? 😉
You win!
There are people I admire who are not good at interviews and especially junkets, there are even people who need a stiff drink before they can face an interview and I get it, but there is no excuse for being late or not showing up when when you have agreed to do it.
Plus, making the people working for you cry? That is horrible. Can we go back and review the fact that Charlize Theron loathed working with him? At the time I remember she got a bit of grief over that. Maybe she she genuinely had a s****y time being stuck in the outback with a man like like for months on end.
He wasn’t being difficult on set and he’s a terrific actor.
He could learn some grace … but I’d be willing to overlook his lack of manners for a couple of hours alone with him in his hotel suite.
Hardy isn’t a jerk you fools. He made a mistake and who knows for a good reason. That MCWhiny is a jerk himself to call him a dick on twitter. Not very professional himself is he..
I dislike all these actors who seem to think it’s okay to behave like this during interviews. Like Bruce Willis or that guy who plays Lex Luther in the upcoming Superman vs. Batman movie. Why do they think it’s completely fine to show up whenever the hell they want, act like a jerk and then waltz out of there?
You’re getting paid millions. Suck it up and do your job, you unprofessional a**hole.
People like that are generally a nightmare to work with as well as for. My condolences to the cast and crew.
Also, are there any actresses out there who consistently act totally unprofessionally on junkets? I can’t think of any.
Jesse Eisenberg. And I agree about all of them – if they TRULY hate promotion so much, negotiate it in their contract that they get paid less in exchange for getting to sit it out. If it’s part of the job you agreed to, do it.
And at no point should they be treating reporters, publicists, etc like crap simply because they don’t like this part of the job. They’re just doing their jobs too, and for a hell of a lot less money and acclaim.
Bruce Willis seems to be over the whole thing, he did or is still doing a play in NY and the reviews made it sound like he really phone it in. Just retire already, dude.
Hmmm. I can’t think of any actresses with overt attitude during press junkets. Maybe just that incident with that model with the eyebrows – Cara, on some morning show. But it wasn’t that bad, just misplaced sarcasm (her trying to pass it off as “British humour” doesn’t quite cut it I’m afraid as it wasn’t humourous in the least)
Oh wait, Robin Penn Wright has a reputation for being difficult with press. Any others?
Exactly. If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it is a duck … People need to stop making excuses for him.
As someone who has worked on junkets and had the Talent walk out “just because”, I agree.
I had to placate reporters a thousand times just because over-paid idiots refused to do part of their jobs – PROMOTE their product. At the same time I couldn’t tell them to stay put because I would have been fired on the spot.
So glad I no longer work in the entertainment industry.
100% agree–and I’m a TH fan. He needs to put on his big boy pants and do his job.
That’s such a foul move. Most of these interviewers are freelancers. If they don’t get the interview, they don’t paid. They wasted four hours for nothing. I don’t Hardy. He’s rude. He’s violent. *cue* HE LIKES PUPPIES! Big freakin’ deal. He pulled the same crap on Mad Max. The cinematographer called him out for being 2 hours late every day. The Sony emails also confirmed his bad reputation. When an exec tried to suggest him for a movie, they were shut down because of rumors of him being difficult. Tom Hardy is talented enough. But he is nowhere near bankable enough to pull these stunts. Warner Bros is single handily keeping him afloat at this point, and he’s burning bridges FAST.
Imagine if anyone but a white man pulled these stunts. He’s had SO many chances.
Revenant is Fox though. But i agree with you. I feel he is kind of on the verge of being blacklisted. There has been absolutely no awards call for him.
It is and Leo said he personally called Tom to have him do the role. So besides friends, yeah, WB is keeping him afloat. Lainey calls him a WB boy like Leo, Ben A, Ryan G.
Nah, despite the fact that I’ve heard he’s terrible in The Revenant, he IS getting awards attention and will probably coattail his way to a nomination Jonah Hill-style (another guy who’s been called out for being a dick during junkets).
If Hardy had a problem with junkets he should have taken it up with the production company and not on the actual journalists. He needs to shave or be as well groomed as the above pic or he looks like a nasty trucker who comments on your boobs.
Tom Hardy’s agent should have negotiated ‘no junkets’ as part of his contract…or is that not an option?
If Hardy truly doesn’t want to do publicity for his films, then he’s welcome to work in regional theater. Doing publicity for movies is as much a part of an actor’s job as is showing up on set.
why would he be grumpy that it’s about Leo? Leonardo is the bigger and better actor and I know he’s not popular around here for some silly reasons like choosing not to get married but it is what it is.
#teamdrew glad he got called out. I hate when people act this way.
Like it or not Leo has 4 academy nominations, if Goopy Paltrow has a damn Oscar so should have Leo.
Every single time he was nominated he was in a category with a better performance ( maybe not for Gilbert Grape but he was nominated along side Fiennes). There are better actors who have no Oscar nominations. Oscars are not, or at least shouldn’t be, career awards.
He’s a good actor, but he’s no Daniel Day Lewis so I don’t get why the whole internet is crying for him to get an Oscar.
At least Leo doesn’t have a reputation of being a douche. I have no problem with his personal life.
+1
Not to mention that I have yet to hear stories about Leo being such a d–k to a reporter.
To be fair, this reporter points out that theres a code of silence over actors bad behavior because the reporters dont want to lose all future access to the guy. Tom Hardy is a talented actor but its hardly the end of your career if he avoids you and your media outlet. Being blacklisted by Dicaprio, especially as he heads into a potentially successful award season, would be a MAJOR lose and yes, a career bender.
What I’m saying is, I doubt Dicaprio is an angel, especially when he isnt hunting for an Oscar, but Toms stardom is sufficiently mid-tier that you can make an example of him without too much repercussion.
I just saw this duo’s obnoxious interview on my local channel here in L.A. The entertainment reporter, who is fairly famous here, not this Drew guy, has been around forever, ranted to the viewing audience about the three hour wait.. Both Tom and Leo on camera, in a major market, were surly, snobbish , condesending, arrogant, nasty, useless douchbags. Really shocking when you know this is a major press interview for a major award season. The station aired it only once though, and never saw it again. They should remember what Julie Christie did to herself in L.A. on her last Acadamy outing.
Yikes, what did Julie Christie do? I never heard anything about bad behaviour from her.
@Red, when it comes to Hardy, there’s also the fact that this isn’t exactly an isolated incident. He’s constantly pulling such douchey moves, whereas Leo doesn’t have that sort of reputation.
Now, it’s not like I have any first-hand information about what Leo is like, but I remember reading an article on Lainey’s site years ago, back when he was still with Bar, about how they went to see a movie and were asked to change seats three or four times. Lainey made a point of noting how Leo made no fuss whatsoever and simply did as he was asked. No special treatment. I don’t know why, but that story kind of stuck with me. He didn’t pull the celebrity card, didn’t sulk, didn’t complain. That, coupled with the fact that I honestly have not heard any stories about him being a rude, stuck-up jerk, makes me think that he truly is respectful and professional. He may be a tad serious and not exactly a goofball or a dancing bear like Hiddleston, but I don’t doubt his professionalism.
And even nowadays, despite the raging hate-on she’s developed for Leo, Lainey has never ever even come close to insinuating that Leo is a jerk to the press. And she has called out other celebrities for that. *shrug*
@nches: my reaction to Leo is “Yuck!” not because he is not married (I actually like him for that, at least he doesn’t play the family man card) but because he is in a rut. He brings nothing new to the table, he picks the same kind of parts, his models are … models and that professional face that he puts whenever an award is in sight. He’s easy but pretends to be complex!
“he picks the same kind of parts”
I fail to see the similarieties between his characters in The Revenant and The Wolf of Wall Street, or The Departed and Gilbert Grape, or Inception and Catch me if you can, or Django and Blood Diamond…
@Pablo – he plays them all the exact same way, which is actually worse than if he just picked similar parts.
They’re super serious, super macho parts, with either Scorsese or some other big name director. I actually really enjoyed The Departed, but at this point it would be nice to see him strike out in another direction. There’s just no soul to his movies anymore.
I like Leo, I’m not anti-Leo but my husband and I watched him in the departed again last week and we cracked up every time he had to beat up someone. He was more strong in a part like wolf.
I don’t think it’s silly to dislike leo for treating women like disposable toys you pick out of a VS magazine. I don’t care if he doesn’t get married. I do care if all he does is date women under 25 his whole life. He’s also a hypocrite and overrated actor.
Silly reasons like being completely humorless and coasting by on long-faded good looks…
Tom is total douche and an ahole, but he can act circles around Leo. I think he brings a depth, intensity, and authenticity to his acting- Leo is a great actor, but he just doesn’t get lost in his roles the way hardy does.
Leo gets a big internet issue because he’s not getting married and goes from model to model it’s actually that makes him more genuine, to my eyes. Most of these actors aiming to becoming big players in Hollywood are huge womanizers and still get married, cheat, divorce, repeat. Several times. Sometimes just because it’s what’s the people expect from them: the family man is clears more relatable and respectable. Leo doesn’t play this hypocrite cards and it gets my respect for this, at least he’s not cheating on a wife, making his family miserable. He’s being what he is, no masks. And granted, I don’t think he’s a great actor, I’m not one of his stand, and I don’t think he’s that handsome. I also think that, besides Gilbert Grape, he plays the same character again and again: the role is “Leo is acting”. But as for his personal life, no backlash from me.
But are we really commending someone for not hiding the fact that he’s kind of a douche in his personal life? My problem isn’t that he’s unmarried, it’s that he pretty clearly views women just as playthings, and not people to be respected. The internet hasn’t been kind to Leo, who fared much better when he was able to control his own image. He’s just a fancier Adrien Brody (who at least has that Oscar to his name).
I don’t think he treats women that badly. They all benefit from it – Kelly Whatshername got major exposure for being with him. It’s a quid pro quo situation. It would be nice if they were at least in their late 20s though.
It does sound like the Bloke was being difficult and inconsiderate of the reporters, and that’s not ok, but I dislike the whiny foul-mouthed reporter even more. He’s acting just as bratty and self-important as Hardy. I mean, you interview celebrities about movies. He’s hardly preventing you from performing life-saving brain surgery. You work with a group of people who have their behinds kissed all day long, and you’re surprised when they aren’t saying “how high?” when you say “jump?”
Seriously? He’s not performing life saving surgery, but he’s doing his job. And if they had an proffesional agreement, Hardy should have followed it. I don’t see how the journalist is being wrong. And some behaviours deserves foul-mouthed responses.
I think Hardy behaved like a dick. I also think Drew acted like a petulant little ass. Want to publicly call someone out for their private bad behavior? Fine. However, ranting and cursing repeatedly on a Twitter account associated with one’s place of work like HitFix, not TMZ, is low class. It was so over the top that I thought Tom must have done something more extreme like cuss him out. One tweet about him ditching would have made me sympathetic…this did not. Tom has a history of being a dick so I doubt this was a misunderstanding. Anyway, team no one and I wouldn’t be surprised if Drew had trouble getting interviews with other A listers because this will make publicists wary.
I think his language and tone are unprofessional. He’s a journalist. He writes like an angry 14 year old. I said Hardy was wrong, and he was. But I have very little sympathy for this whiner, either. I would have had a lot if he had behaved professionally himself. But as als said, it’s just one a-hole calling out another, and I can’t care.
ITA 100% GNAT. This guy makes it REALLY hard to be sympathetic.
Drew didn’t post in a vacuum, in between his multiple comments he had Hardy fans reacting. He also said it wasn’t the first time he’d had the same experience. It just seemed to spiral into one of those all-too-typical Twitter rants. Another reason I stay off Twitter: too easy to react without thinking and get into stupid arguments.
Hardy needs to watch out. Leading men may get more chances in Hollywood but he’s not quite A list and after a while, people won’t be so tolerant of bad behaviour. (see Crowe, Russell)
No, no behavior deserves foul language in a professional environment. You can’t call someone out for being unprofessional while being unprofessional yourself. And do we really think that his journalistic pride was hurt for the first time ever? You don’t get to do this kind of interview if you’re new so I assume he’s been dealing with actors for years. And Tom was the first to be a douche? Come on. He’s probably the exact right balance of high profile but not so powerful that it’ll end your career if his publicist puts you on their sh*t list. That’s why this “journalist” decided to call him out and nobody else. I have no respect for that.
But he’s not acting very professional either by trashing Tom publicly.
Yes, it usually takes an asshole to call out another asshole, it’s natural order.
A well-behaved person would have walked away humiliated and kept a lid on it all (I suspect this attitude is part of how the assholes got to be assholes in the first place). Which would have been fine for everyone, especially for Hardy that could have preserved his sexy, golden boy reputation. Now, a bratty reporter just punched a hole in that illusion. He won’t be rejected from jobs now, but today is a hole, tomorrow another bratty reporter makes another hole, until everything adds up.
I applaud this Drew guy for using his brattiness and self-importance in the most constructive way possible.
Oh yeah, and they were both doing a job, so respect was needed, even if they weren’t saving the world. From a whiny interviewer to a whiny actor, they should have found a way to make it work.
Funny. You’re also right that I shouldn’t have been disrespectful of his job.
I actually wish more journalists would call out actors for being unprofessional and rude. It’s like McWeeny said, they act that way because they are banking on the press not outing their behaviour, so perhaps these Hollywood types would actually treat journalists with respect and be professional if they knew that there would be consequences. Sad to think that that’s what it would take for some of them to act like decent people, but constantly letting them off the hook and kissing their butts obviously isn’t doing the trick. I’m definitely #teamjourno here.
I don’t mind him calling him out if he had done so like a grownup.
Eh, you may be right. I’m probably way too biased here because I dislike Hardy.
I may be biased as well because I like Hardy, so the truth is in there somewhere. Lol
Journalists don’t tend to call them out for being rude or unprofessional but they will occasionally portray them in a less than flattering light without coming right out and saying why. They also often comment on those who are on time or who apologize for not being on time or are extremely pleasant during the junkets and when you see that, it makes it clear that most aren’t or don’t.
same. I’ve never understood why Hardy gets a pass around these parts, but I would be quite happy if that changed – I mean, the jackass behaviour is not something we didn’t know about.
It reminds me of when open-to-the-dining-room kitchens started becoming fashionable in restaurants – really cut down on the chefs screaming at waiters.
Sometimes, more openness is a very good thing!
Well, this was a big enough deal that all the other gossip sites below have also covered it. That doesn’t happen often.
Michael K said Drew should wear a dog costume if he wants an interview… Lainey totally went off on him.
@NUTBALLS…Lainey’s title for her Tom Hardy story today nearly had me spitting my drink out.
I’m too pleased by this writer standing up to care about what language he used. This is the Tom Hardy that punched Paul Bettany on a set. This is the account by the film director btw, not some sketchy Star magazine article. Paul Efffing Bettany! Seriously, this isnt mere entitlement, this is a violent bully, a douchebag of the worst kind, who happens to for some reason be the dream fantasy of a bunch of women writers and therefore immune to the backlash actresses get for a tiny fraction of the stuff he does.
In any case an easy defence could be made for this guy. He says this isnt the first time Hardy has pulled obnoxious crap on his time. I can see even the calmest of souls finally snapping after repeatedly taken flights to interview somebody who couldnt be bothered.
Didn’t he clash big time with Chatlize Theron on the Mad Max set? She made comments the he was difficult to work with.
He’s always been a douche, he just has a v good publicist.
Why did be punch Bettany?
He got punched by Shia on set of Lawless and at time it was chalked up to Shia being Shia but now I wonder if Tom was being a total douche and deserved being clocked by Shia.
@Betti: he slapped Bettany because of a comment .The worst is that Hardy was proud to tell the story in a French magazine ( I remember the interview)
He also hit Bronson’s director (and if you listen Hardy,he made all in the movie and Refn was useless),Shia Laboeuf on Lawless set ( not because of Laboeuf’s insane behavior with everyone but because Laboeuf made a joke on him)
He always was too late (2hours) on Mad Max’s filming.
He hit Inarritu ( I believe it because it was on Reddit before to a blind item) ,tried to hit Inarritu’s assistant and a producer
One of my neighbor is a Belgium movie journalist who, when he read the tweets, sent me ” the last time that Hardy was professional,it was for The Dark Knight Rises”
@Dont kill me I’m french
Good God, I knew he was an abusive dbag but I had no idea it was so bad. He also hit Refn?! The Innaritu punching incident almost definitely happened, I saw those Reddit posts and the insider was spilling about other problems on the set that were later confirmed by articles on industry outlets.
Look, I get it ladies, he is pretty to look at, he has a nice body and a sexy voice BUT could we please see a change on editorial policy on how this guy is covered here. If Julia Roberts articles have to contain some remark about her being difficult then Tom Hardy articles should atleast list the people he has physically fought at the office. Please and thank you.
I didn’t realize zen that. Thank you.
I have to disagree with you here. I judge a persons character not by how well they treat their equals or superiors, but by how well they treat people they “perceive” as being lower than them.
And, I don’t perform brain surgery either but I do appreciate/expect professionalism and respect.
That’s a good point, di.
The writer might sound bratty, but this made me laugh:
“Thanks for making my job impossible because you’re such a delicate f–king flower.”
Tom has had a bad reputation for a while, and honestly, he is a hottie but there are others who can fill that niche without being a jerk. Like Charlie Hunnam.
It is one thing to hear about Tom getting into fights on set because Shia is a jerk, or the director pushed him too far. But when you make publicists cry…that is just absurd. He sounds like someone who “kicks the cat” and takes his anger out on the wrong people. Not. Hot. An abusive person is still an abusive person, even if the person they are abusing is whining about it.
Kind of have to agree with Good Names. They both sound like whiny idiots.
I think Drew and Hardy should only be allowed to work with each other. Let them duke it out till they realize how big of a-holes they are, quit their jobs and move on to something more fulfilling.
He’s always acted like a dick.
Agree. I don’t get what his supposed appeal is. I’m too old to think bad boys are appealing.
He suffers from SMS = Short Man Syndrome
He has. I’m a fan of his work, find him super hot, but think in real life he’s a hot mess who dicks around on his wife and acts like a confrontational diva at work.
Damn him and his hot talent.
I was thinking about this and Tom Hardy way more than I should have today and one of the names that came to mind was Val Kilmer. Hot and talented and a PITA to work with. It eventually done Val’s career in and Hardy better take a good long look at Kilmer’s career before the same happens to him.
ETA: And I loved Kilmer back in the day but he shot himself in the foot career-wise with his antics.
Wait until he pisses off someone who really matters, wait until no one wants to work him anymore, and then we’ll see.
He’s always been a complete idiot with a very high opinion of himself. Unfortunately I can’t see him changing now.
Oh dear. Struggling to find a positive angle…
… it has become very clear to me that The Bloke is in desperate need of me and my disciplinary skills. I think this could be a positive move all round, but mostly for me.
Time for you to teach him some lessons. And we have a new supply of ball gags. Because Christmas.
I’d usually save a sparkly one for The Bloke, but not this year. He’ll have to make do with a hand-me-down. All part of the discipline.
Leave it to Sixer to find a way to turn this around for the better… for her, especially. Clearly, he’s gotten too big for his britches and needs you to take him down a few notches. Have fun with that…
*whispers*
I hear clamps are very effective in these situations.
Team Drew. It’s about time these people realised that they are ACTORS and not curing cancer. What a douche-canoe.
Drew McWeeny is a jerk and an a##hole who gets most all of his attention as a “reporter” by doing these long strings of nasty rants. Maybe Hardy was a jerk, but in this instance, the best I can give him is only being 50% of the story.
What else has he done ?
I used to read Hitfix and that’s not my impression of him at all. He’s just one of those really enthusiastic movie nerds you get on the internet, very Ain’t It Cool News .
He started out writing for Ain’t It Cool News years ago.
lmao no he’s not.
I think his Film Nerd 2.0 series is some of the best film-related writing on the web. He’s had his moments, to which he will attest, but McWeeny’s generally a good guy.
It was nice to FINALLY read that people here on CB give him a pass (And you see it still in some of the comments). I see other celebrities being trashed for things and they have never been unprofessional in this way; and some have big reasons to be; but they don’t. I saw he and Leo on ET or E’News and he was Horrible. Dickish and all. He has a job to do. One in which he was paid a great deal of money. One of the parts of the J O B is to promote the film. YEAH journalist are sometimes idiots and ask silly OTT questions. But he acts like he is a bigger deal than he actually is. You don’t see BIG Celebrities doing this. They go out of their way to be Professional.
He is a good actor; but I don’t think he is a “special snowflake”. Answer the questions and call it a day. STOP being a Douche and as the guy said.. D*** move on the reporters that have kept quiet. The Studio should step in. If he doesn’t like doing the Entire J O B then give back some of the M O N E Y he got paid
“You don’t see BIG Celebrities doing this. They go out of their way to be Professional.”
This a million times.
Except Bruce Willis who has a bad rep both on set and with promotion but he’s a much more established star than Hardy.
I’m not sure that I would consider Bruce Willis to be that big of a star though. At least not anymore. I’m talking about A-listers like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, Leo D, Will Smith, heck, even Tom Cruise. I don’t hear/read about them pulling stunts like this.
The exact reason Bruce Willis doesn’t get much good work anymore is because he’s a lazy asshole and people are tired of dealing with him.
This is the thing, even if we talk about the “actors” not the “stars” which Hardy seems to want to be.
Day Lewis? Nuts on set, get’s it done; does smiling, friendly interviews.
Bale? Aside from one incident has a great reputation on set. Mostly a terrible interviewee but shows up when booked and honours his commitments. Reporters get their story.
It can be learned. Look at Fassbender. Not great when he started getting big but seems to have the hang of it now. Definitely a charmer. And again, great reputation on set.
Get it together Hardy!
If you don’t think BIG celebrities act unprofessional I’ve got a bridge to sell you.
Exactly. The bigger the celebrity, however, the tighter shut the mouths of everyone around them or working with them at any time. People are scaringly naive and yes, I work in this field and have said hundreds of times the busines is as s*itty as it gets and nice people don’t succeed in it. Very few are the exceprion that proves the rule.
Nobody said that EVERY Big celebs doesn’t act that way. But when you look as some of the Biggest names you don’t see these kinds of stories. And at this point in their careers I would imagine you would. Most of the biggest names have been in this business for 20+ years. And considering the climate we living in with social media and such YES if they were behaving this way someone would be talking. Mainly because the story would get traction. This is not the golden age of Entertainment where Studios can contain these thing. People talk all the time now. So if they were doing this there would be some accounts someplace. Even minor ones.
so I don’t think anyone above is being naive.
They are really making this movie look like work to watch. Everything about it has just been miserable.
Yes – the tiny bit of interest I may have had in this movie is effectively destroyed by it’s promotion.
Didn’t Tom Hardy have to give up his role in Suicide Squad to finish this movie?
ITA. The only reason I will watch this is for the cinematography. I expect Chivex to walk away with his 3rd consecutive Oscar. I love his work.
Good cinematography isn’t enough to inspire me to sit through 2+ hours of suffering. This just looks like a chore to watch! In all their effort to sell how hard Leo worked and how much he suffered, they’ve managed to make this movie sound utterly and completely unappealing. Wow, can I watch people be miserable onscreen? Whoever came up with this PR angle seems to have seriously miscalculated.
For contrast, look at the promotion work for The Hateful 8 – another 19th century, snowy Western. Everyone is talking about what a great time they had making it and how excited they are about the movie.
Bridget I agree with you on all fronts, but I adore Chivex and cinematography is one of those things I really look for in films.
I’m afraid the rest of the cast and the film itself are being thrown under the bus for the sake of Leo’s Oscar bait.
Fortunately for you then the movie looks gorgeous 🙂
And I think they’re misfiring on the big Oscar campaign. They’ve gone with the ‘Leo Suffers’ route to the point where they’re making the movie sound terrible. I get that it was cold and everyone was miserable. But you still want people to spend money on your movie, you know? And the campaign just comes across as desperate.
So true! A friend asked if I wanted to see it, and I told her that it just seems like it would take so much effort. I think the focus on how hard the film making was, how hard these press tours are…the laborious feeling carries over to my impression of how it will be to watch the damn thing.
What, you don’t want to spend your spare time and $$$ watching a couple of hours of frontier suffering?
I am such a Grinch, turning down a chance for such effervescent holiday cheer! 😉
While I think Drew has every right to be upset, especially since Tom was being so unprofessional, I just really don’t understand this twitter rant. Frankly this is far from how horrible I’ve seen some actors/actresses behave in my short and ill advised time in Hollywood. So while I appreciate his frustration, unless he’s going to call out every actor who acts like an inconsiderate a**hole, he needs to let it go.
Exactly. There’s a way to call someone out, to hold someone accountable for not fulfilling their professional obligations in a skillful way–but he decided to stoop to Hardy’s level. He just made himself look like a bitter, unprofessional hack.
So Team No one in this scenario.
If I went on a Twitter rant every time I saw a celebrity acting like an a-hole I would have never got any work done.
It’s pretty obvious Hardy is above and beyond normal actor ego trips. Anyone still spinning this is in denial. He’s a violent, disrespectful, cheating asshole.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I am in NO WAY condoning Hardy’s behavior. My point is that Drew is a professional journalist and I know for a fact that Hardy is not the worst celebrity he’s ever interviewed so why single him out and not the A-list “super funny, generous, America’s Sweetheart” types as well? This, sadly, is Hollywood.
@debs: please stop describing him like this, chances are you’re just gonna make him even more attractive to the general public and to the studios.
@Marty-Nope. THERE IS NO IN-BETWEEN IN CELEB GOSSIP. This is a world of extremes, don’tcha know.
…and if you don’t 100% support the idea that Tom Hardy is an evil mastermind who hates women and treats everyone around him like complete garbage then you are in severe denial!
😉
“why single him out”
Maybe he just reached his limit and snapped. Others may have been as bad or worse, but maybe for some reason this time was the moment that made him say enough.
Yeah, I’m team No One. And Hardy should have am attitude check. No one likes douches, no matter how hot they are with their love of dogs.
He said this has happened twice this year. I am sure there are other people who have been unprofessional but it must have crossed a line for him to rant on twitter. Hardy has always been a major asshole and clashed with Miller and Theron on Mad Max set,was constantly late, punched Paul Bettany and Innaratu. Really makes no sense to make excuses for him.
I like that he was a douche about it, actually. I’ve noticed that when I nicely call out rude people on their rudeness, they never listen. So now I’m just as rude when I do it.
I don’t know this Drew guy, but I have zero patience for rude assholes who don’t let people do their jobs. And really, this Drew guy was an asshole because he was legitimately upset. What’s Hardy’s excuse?
What’s Leonardo’s reputation when it comes to these junkets? I haven’t seen any of The Revenant, has he been ok? I hate rude people so I’ll have respect for Dicaprio if he’s been nice and professional.
I’ve always thought Tom was a horror and now more and more people are calling him out on it.
Leo is ALWAYS professional when it comes to his work.
Heh, there a counted fews of all actors having interviews scheduled at TIFF (for where I can speak first hand) who are on time and haven’t just skipped some. You have an unrealistic idea about those people only because the really big names are protected and will not be callee out whatsoever. The things one sees and heards are appalingly rude but are always hushed!
Tom and Leo were paired for junket interviews on the day Drew is complaining about. Hence why his accusations don’t add up at being specifically targeted at Tom. Tom was never scheduled to do any TV interviews solo….they were always intended to be paired. (some of these interviews are even already online). If Drew got cut, it wasn’t possible for it to be by Tom. Drew never had any interaction with Tom. This rant doesn’t add up.
Really.. he said it was not the first time; but had happened before. Which had nothing to do with Leo. And in these kinds of Junkets actors do have one on one interviews. What doesn’t add up is the way some people can’t accept that this man acted badly and has a history of doing so.
When people show you who they are believe them. I guess Tom hasn’t shown himself enough. I wonder if his supporters are as quick to be so understanding of other celebs. I’ll look at names to see if that is the case.
I think people are way too forgiving with him because he is seen as a “cool dude”.So he gets a pass. But if it were Leo who did this, he would have been slayered .
It’s not the first time we hear about hiimbeing unprofessional, and he doesn’t have problem only with journalists but also on film sets. A crew member of Mad Max sais he was extremely unprofessional, always late, throwing tantrums…
As for his perfomance in the movie, well some liked it, and some ( critics and viewers) found it way over-the-top and cartoonish. I heard Domhnall Gleeson was better.
not sure why people are surprised tbh he has a bad rep all around
I think most actors choose a persona. It’s not that the persona is necessarily made all of lies, but I think they choose which parts of their real personalities to accentuate as “Public Persona”. I think Tom Hardy probably has a no-BS, rough-around-the-edges aspect to his real personality but he has chosen to accentuate that at his Actor Persona. He’s a rough-a** and he wants everyone to know MY PERSONA IS A ROUGH A**. I can imagine it gets real tiring to deal with for folks like journalists, but I bet at home he’s a right teddy bear.
Or maybe he IS an a**hole.
Or maybe he’s like, an actual human being and he’s a combination of both good and bad like the rest of us.
Sorry, I’m far from a perfect person, but I have NEVER acted anywhere near his violent, rude and overall shitty in my life and I probably never will. Imho there are NO excuses for his behaviour and it’s a shame people are defending him like this.
Or maybe he shoukd reap the consequences if his appaling behaviour like an actual humang being.
I can’t read people exusing his behaviour on here anymore. And this is one of the rare blogs where people are usually normal. Yuck.
Oh girl please miss me with the “we’re all complex people” excuse. I’m over it being used as a defense for white guys (if I recall correctly you said the same about the Adam character from Girls).
TH has a history of being an a**hole. If it looks like a duck, sounds like a duck and walks like a duck…then it’s probably a duck.
What the HELL does this have to do with “white guys”??
And yeah I absolutely think that Adam’s character on Girls was complex with redeeming qualities. BTW, I’m far from the only person that thinks that so please put your pitchfork down.
@ Nik
Yes, you might be right. He sounds quite unpleasant. I remember an interview from years ago he did with B. Cumberbatch. They were on a movie together and did the interview sitting at picnic table. I was so struck by their difference in demeanor. Ben, sweet and almost shy and innocent, and Tom all coarse language and bravado, and looking like he was hungover. I don’t know what any of these people are really like, but I do maintain that most of them push a Persona.
I agree. Why do we have to give a pass to Tom Hardy? Would you accept someone showing up 4 hours late to his workplace and then refusing to do any work? Would you accept him being violent and arrogant in his workplace, making lives miserable for all of his colleagues?
Would you accept someone doing all that and just brush it off by saying that he is an actual complex human being with both good and bad in him?? I don’t think so.
I just hope the ladies on this site aren’t giving him a pass because he’s a good looking actor who has had some nice photos shot with dogs.
Yes, because punching people is just a weakness, nothing more. Of course.
He puts on the teddy bear act before or after he punches someone out?
Absolutely some of them put on a persona, but an a**hole irl will eventually show through it and Hardy’s a**holeishness has shone through for years.
Don’t like press? Don’t be famous. Don’t want to do junkets? Don’t be an actor. Like the millions you get paid? Get out there and promote the damn product and suck it up. Don’t be an unprofessional a$$. Any of us would get fired for that.
at home? You mean where he cheats on his wife and assaults his co workers?
Grumpy I get, not being good at interviews I get and occasionally being late I understand, but keeping people waiting and then not doing an interview, being violent to co-workers and reducing others to tears – how is this in anyway acceptable?
You gotta be kidding. Late is the norm. Skipping interviews because the spa was too pleasant, the night was too long, or the assistant didn’t bring the right outfit is expected. At any big film related event the foyers are full with waiting journalists, sometimes from morning till late night, having had scheduled say 10 interviews and getting 4 or 6, depends on the day. Anything goes when the name is big enough. Anything. My this year’s favorite was someone being wiped the floor with because someone got the wrong brand of mineral water. Naturally, the interviews scheduled for after that “dreadful mistake” were greatly disrupted. Such things.
It still doesn’t make it right and what about Hardy that makes journos speak out? I could understand if he was one of those who was out of favour, once that happens the most innocuous comments are twisted by journos to make them seem bad, but that is not the case with Hardy who is on a bit of a high at the moment.
He never cheated on his wife you morrons; stop the insults !
This guy is an a-hole he’s always been one. However being nice isn’t a requirement for me to like his acting.
Of course not. I still like his acting (most of the time at least) and I still think he’s a dick. I love Kanye the artist but hate Kanye the person. You can separate the two.
On a similar note, I watched The Revenant last night. Outside of the cinematography and score, I didn’t like. It was so obvious how hard Leo was trying with his “look at me suffer” acting and Hardy was cartoonish with a distracting accent.
That is exactly how I imagine this whole movie to be: intense and super try-hard. I’m not interested.
If this guy hates doing press, I don’t get why Leo DiCaprio is being blamed for his lack of an Oscar campaign.
I remember commenting on him the last story about how he arrived for a showing and thinking that was a small part of a bigger problem. There was a follow up on how he was there and it should not be a issue.
While Leo’s personal life is not everyone’s cup of tea, the man shows up ready to work every film. A pro to the end. That is why director’s will be knocking down his door to work with him and Hardy will be a afterthought in the years to come.
Even though I do like watching him, he’s easily replaceable. It’s part of his job, he should be punctual and fulfill his obligations. It really isn’t a big deal compared to all the things people do to put a roof over their heads and food on the table.
My really good friend wanted to be an actress, she worked 2 jobs put herself through school, would go on endless auditions. she unfortunately went through a life altering traumatic event and she chose not to persue acting. She is incredibly talented and loathes the fact when celebrities are ungrateful brats. She didn’t want to be famous just liked telling a story. People like Tom are incredibly lucky they made it behaving like a prick only puts salt on the wounds for the many who couldn’t – be gracious, be grateful.
It’s a pity I really liked him but he’s taken it too far with his rudeness.
I have detached from friends just because they were perpetually late, I cannot stand it when people think their time is more precious than mine.
Well, he’s pretty terrible in The Revenant honestly. That freaking accent! So distracting. Leo is a much better actor than him and a more professional person and he gets zero passes from this site and ripped to shreds for far less egregious behavior.
I adore Tom Hardy. However, I can see all of this being true. He is obviously not at all easy on junkets. I can even understand why. But I would hope he wouldn’t be taking it out on other people around him who are just trying to do their work. Come on, Bloke-visit your MySpace page, cheer yourself up, and answer some silly questions about your new movie. I would hate to see him get blacklisted, cause he is talented AF.
So you’re fine that he’s violent and routinely assaults people, eh?
Yes I am fine with him assaulting people and being violent. That is exactly what I posted!!You are sharp as a ball of Play dough @Sara.Good job with reading comprehension.
There is a huge difference between to be ill at ease in interview or dislike the promotion and to be unprofessional.
Here Hardy is totally unprofessional
First of all this: He’s NOT violent and doesn’t assault people! He’s not a saint either and he did make a mistake in the case of Drew McWeeny. I know he once said “i don’t like publicist, but i love the people”. And yes, he still should have handled this professionally, but than again i don’t think Drew handled very professional by calling Tom out on twitter…
This utter delusion. Honey he’s stated HIMSELF that he has assaulted people.
@Britt: Hardy boasted in some interviews to have slapped Paul Bettany ,hit Shia Leboeuf and Bronson’s director
I really like Tom Hardy as actor and in more he is nice with the fans but he is often totally unprofessional on set
Er, it’s all true and it’s obnoxious and he is paid to do promo work it’s in most contracts, but some part of me kinda likes him for despising it and being unable to hide it, because so much of it is seriously mind-numblingly stupid and vapid and treats the consumer (i.e., me) like a functional moron. It gets tiresome watching the eager beavers like TH slaver over every opportunity to push themselves forward (although in his recent article, TH also threw some shade at the process). I’ve thought Hardy the most interesting of the lot for some time, and while I sympathize with the PR staffer’s point of view, some part of me is yelling, “Go, Tom!”) and no one forced the PR staffer to do this job instead of another, either. From the trailers, Tom was at least as good as Leo in the film.
Regardless how tiresome of a job the promo tour can be (is it really so hard though?), he still needs to be professional. It’s his job when he signs his contract and receives his check to also promote the movie. Promoting a movie by being polite and respectful is the standard, not a choice.
Also Don’t Kill Me I’m French (I think it was him/her) posted a comment of the list of TH’s bad behavior throughout the years. This isn’t a one time incident which would be easier to forgive.
For the amount of money he’s getting I expect him to be pleasant and smile until his teeth frickin hurt.
yeah nik +1
seesittellsit, while i don’t expect anyone to be on all the time, especially during junkets, he’s got a history of this. when you’re an ass with promo, it affects everyone. not just pr reps or journalists but your costars, your director, etc.
i, for one, do not like the guy in the office not pulling his weight. he’s also reportedly nasty to people he employs but idk about anything else
Dude. Be half the man your dogs think you are.
<3
And yet pathetic women will still defend and lust over this violent, cheating, disrespectful asshole because he likes dogs.
Yes, because in order for a woman to fantasize about a famous actor, it must be based on a true emotional connection and the idea that this fantasy man whom we will never have a chance with is a perfect gentleman!
Unlike men who have the freedom to fantasize and lust after any famous actress, regardless of how she behaves in her personal life.
….because sexism yay!
@ Kitten
You and others have been focusing most of your attention on the interviewer (which then deflects the blame from TH). Its a tactic so Tom won’t look so bad in comparison. That is in a way defending him.
If you want to fantasize about him well have fun but Sarah’s point stands.
If that’s how you want to interpret my comments then *shrug* that’s cool. My point was just that the interviewer sounds like an asshole as well.
I don’t feel any need to defend Tom Hardy because I’m not invested in what the world thinks about him–your opinion doesn’t change how I feel. But yes I absolutely love him because I think he’s PHENOMENALLY talented. Yes I lust after him because he’s I find him sexy as hell. No I’m not sorry about it and no, I make no apologies for that.
Do people really NOT get the concept of a fantasy?
I find it laughable that people act like finding this guy hot is the same as willingly entering into a relationship with an abusive man. It’s a FANTASY I.e. “the faculty or activity of imagining things, especially things that are impossible or improbable”. It’s not REAL, guys.
Neither myself nor any other commenter here is saying that they’d date Tom Hardy for MANY reasons that should be VERY obvious.
Ugh. I find it so bizarre how people in this forum even try to morally police the imaginations of others like “hey we’re so sanctimonious we’re even going to tell you who you should/shouldn’t have sex dreams about”. Ridiculous.
LMFAO OH MY GOD did you seriously just try to turn this into something about sexism? hooooooly shiiiiiiiiit you are crazy. I mean I knew that from all your other creepy comments about white British dudes, but…omg.
I’m with Sarah and Case. Accussing people of sexism for criticizing Hardy’s objectionable behavior is disgraceful. Then she compounds it by lying about defending him and then contradicts herself by saying everybody excuses/defends their favourite celebrities.
Wow Kitten, really? It’s sexism to call him out for his behavior?? Come on. That’s reaching a bit far, isn’t it?
When did he become a violent, cheating asshole??? How do any of the people who are so outraged all of a sudden know for a fact he cheats? Come on people, don’t buy 100% into the dumb gossip. I’m sure he’s no shy and retiring flower but save the outrage. It’s based on fluff. And violent? Again, I don’t think he’s never gotten into a brawl before but you make it sound like the streets aren’t safe with him on the loose. Good gawd, some gossip lovers are so self-righteous it hurts. I’m positive he can be a d*ck (as can most people) but that is not the same as abusive.
He punched Bettany, Shia and Inarritu. This wasn’t even a pub brawl, that was in his workplace .
And people here are not just fantasising, they’re borderline exucisng his behaviour.
EVERYBODY excuses/defends their favorite celebrities, just like you and others are gleefully frothing at the mouth over this post because you never liked the guy. I’m happy that you finally feel validated but it doesn’t mean that you need to get on every person who disagrees with you.
Different strokes for different folks.
Ok this is my last comment because the hive mentality of this place can be so damn exhausting. Enjoy the feeding frenzy.
He admitted to hitting Paul Bettany in a French magazine. Google it. I did. His first big job too. Tom was unrepentant about it.
I never found him hot, but I started to dislike him when reports of his crappy behaviour started to come out.
You know, I really liked Jesse Eisenberg, but when he compared ComicCon to genocide I didn’t think he was a complex human being and that the reporteras were harrasing him.
Seriously, there are some celebrities AND some commenters here who are like sacred cows and act like they can never say anything wrong . Jesus.
+1 Sarah…can’t believe some of the comments on here with some turning themselves into human pretzels bending over backward to defend this violent assh*les behavior. If a woman or POC actor pulled this kind of crap, they’d get raked over the coals and blacklisted in a New York minute for it.
Call a spade a spade, TH is an overprivileged, unprofessional jerk and its high time that he be called out for it.
+100000 Hardy has revealed through his behaviour to be an entitled brute. No amount of dogs can change that, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with calling him out on it.
Locke Lamora I also completely agree with you. It seems like there’s both celebrities AND commenters who act as though they are beyond reproach. It makes this celebitchy a far less interesting place to visit.
I’m hoping more reporters will follow his lead and report the asshole behavior. Good for gossip and you know, calling out these tools on their attitudes.
Maybe, but than i hope all the reporters who DID have a great interview with Tom will react too….that would be fair, wouldn’t it! And no, i’m not a pathetic woman 😉
But by this logic, even if for example a person has been abused by someone, as long as other people can speak of positive experiences with that same person it somehow weighs up their actions? He was abusive, but look at all these other times he wasn’t???
I agree with Pandy, this sort of behaviour should be called out (especially since most will still be too afraid to do so).
GoodNamesAllTaken says:
“I may be biased as well because I like Hardy, so the truth is in there somewhere. Lol”
This is my line of thinking in regards to this. I am a bit biased as well and like to think of myself as not being pathetic. I really like him as an actor, that is most likely not going to change. But Tom is really getting his a$$ handed to him here, so maybe this will be a wake up call to behave more graciously in the future.
The comments here and other places would be a “Wake UP” call if he were reading them. I don’t think he is reading or will read them
I am pretty positive that this bad press will get leaked back to him @lisa2.
The comments here and other places would be a “Wake UP” call if he were reading them. I don’t think he is reading or will read them
He looks like he would smell like b.o and bad breath. Also he is full of himself- believes his own hype. Don’t find that attractive. Overrated af!
yeah, i don´t see the “bloke hot”. He always looks as if he stinks. Next to him Dicaprio looks clean, tall and professionel
I’m glad I was never a fan of Tom Hardy. He’s a good actor but I was never attracted to his personality.. apparently, for good reason!
Sad to say, but this guy’s behavior may be an example of the Dunning–Kruger effect. He might really think he’s irreplaceable.
I saw a short video yesterday where Tom was on his phone DURING an interview. Yes, definitely unprofessional.
O please…he instantly put his phone away; don’t exaggerate it..
It seems like tom is the Angelina Jolie of male celebs on this site. Not that she’s unprofessional but the way the fans & haters go back and forth is kind of similar. 😏
Angelina has nothing to do with this.. and if you can find a story or account of her being unprofessional and acting this way please do so. She gets attacked all the time for supposed behavior that is never proven. And to my knowledge she is always professional in her work. So when you can show this kind of behavior and attributed it to her then a comparison would be warranted.
Inflated egos on both parts. Glad I don’t work in that industry anymore!!!
Me, too! The things I’ve seen and had to do. I’m so glad I walked away. People think this was out of line? Pfft, I’ve seen worse.
Tom isn’t into promoting this movie at all. Isn’t this the movie that Tom had a blind item about where fought with the director and even hit him because the director was being an as*hole to the crew? Laid him out. Think the blind item is true and Tom has little like for the director….but its still very unprofessional and he needs to grow up. We all go to jobs we dislike with smiles on our faces because that is what adults do, suck it up. It’s not the first time he has fought with a director. Don’t become a Russell Crowe & a Mickey Rourke Tom!! As a very longtime fan of him, this is very disappointing.
That blind was alledegly George clooney smacking Russel O Davis on the set of 3 kings.
Clooney/DOR story is known since 15 years. It is not a blind .Clooney yet talked about it and DOR talked about it during The Fighter’s promotion…
According to some Reddit posts,Hardy hit Inarritu and tried to hit Inarritu’s assistant and one of The Revenant’s producers. He often was late .He refused to talk or listen to Inarritu and YES,Inarritu was insane and painful but Hardy was the one actor not to be professional on set ( even if he was nice with the crew and he hung out with them)
I do not actually like hearing celebrities act in a horrible way nor I ofteb believe reports if they are just one time things. But in a way it is good if the public finds out so the actually nice people maight benefit and the horrible people can not keep actiong professionally.
I really couldn’t give a shiny one how ‘unappreciative’ Hardy’s behaviour is on the awards trail. Like Michael Fassbinder, I love him on screen and have no expectations of him beyond that.
But it’s really not surprising that many European actors have no f*cks to give as far as toeing the US people-pleasing, award-hungry line.
I too, when tired of people pleasing, am laze to work for a few hours and punch a few people. What a badass am I.
Perfect reply! I love it, Locke!
So being a rude, violent asswipe = good on him for not being a “people pleaser.” Give me a f*cking break. This guy is a dick in any country.
I like Hardy as an actor but the stories about him being a total prick are getting harder to ignore. When even Charlize thinks you’re an asshole, you’re probably an all-caps ASSHOLE.
I can appreciate that doing the press stuff is probably the least fun part of a Hollywood actor’s job, but until you get it specifically written in your contract that you’re not doing them, suck it up and do it. You’re being paid for acting AND promoting the film, so the LEAST you can do is show up on time, put on a smile and grit your teeth though it. I hate it when celebs (and even us normals) think that just because they don’t like something, they should be excused from doing it. Grow up.
There’s never an excuse for being this rude, disrespectful and unprofessional to people who are just trying to do their jobs. This Drew guy’s time is worth something too, and he can’t turn in a report to his editor because Tom Hardy thinks he’s too speshul to do his job. I’d be pissed, too.
Um, I’m not sure Charlize Theron of all people should be taken as someone whose opinion matters when it comes to rudeness. Except if it’s a master class she’s giving. This womaN is so entitled and so out of touch with reality that if she wasn’t that big still, the stories about her would have made poor Hardy crawl back home and pay for the masterclass.
No I’m saying that when even someone as rude as Charlize thinks you’re a jerk, that’s an impressive level of jerk-dom! 🙂
Unprofesional is what it is. He’s a goodlooking ritch white male actor who, occasionally, has to sit through a series of dumb questions. Life truly is hard for the bloke. Stop making excuses for him
Remember how that journalist was treated at the American Hustle press thingie, after the awards show? They basically made fun of his accent?
That was way worse than being tardy. Hardy was tardy and it’s rude but not personal. Poking fun at someone’s accent is personal.
So…. there.
As for the temper tantrums on set, Tardy Hardy sounds like an ass.
@kitten
If you come back to this thread, there absolutely is hive mentality. What is interesting is watching people back peddle in order to stay in the hive. Just sit back and enjoy the show, because it can be quite entertaining.
I happen to have a major crush on Praetor Shinzo and always will. Doesn’t mean I condone his violence
Ugh auto correct
Shinzon
I feel sorry for him. He just wants to be an actor – being unprofessional is doing things like being unprepared late or rude on set. It seems like Tom is a very dedicated actor who just hates the show monkey side of things. It’s a shame that’s what this craft has devolved into – being a show monkey and dancing for the press.
Besides being a douchebag to reporters, he is ALSO late and rude on set. Many people from the Mad Max set said he was always late, and he has assaulted numerous co-stars. Do you still have excuses for him?
proof?
But he’s not being compensated solely for his acting. He gets his paychecks with the understanding that doing press is part of the job.
Everyone has aspects of their job that they hate, but they get on with it.
I mean, Kristen (sp) Stewart whines forevermore about doing press/being in the media, and people just tell her to deal. It’s the same thing with Hardy, but he goes the extra step and is repeatedly nasty.
Well then there’s something wrong with the system and the endless public frenzy that demands their actors be show ponies, frankly it’s disgusting. Don’t blame the artist for standing up against this disgusting system. Just because it’s there and you’re supposed to follow it doesn’t mean it’s right.
Oh please Moon. He was in Batman and that Reese Whiterspoon movie. He voluntarily became a show pony.
Theatre people are not show ponies for the press. He coukd have done that. But you can’t be in Batman and expect anonimity.
Ok, so I’m kind of confused by the reaction some of his fans are having. Not all of them, a lot of you have basically been saying ‘I’m a fan, but he’s such a jerk’.
But some of you are making excuses for some really bad behavior. You can like his acting and you can think he’s hot, but the man has a track record of rude, abusive behavior. I’m not saying he’s the Devil, but he’s definitely an asshole.
Commenters on this site will call out JLaw for being gross, call out Cumbberbatch for his PR tactics and call out Hiddleston for being too ‘extra’. But if Hardy gets called out for being rude to reporters, you’re going to make excuses for him? And honestly, Hardy being rude (and in some cases violent) to those he works with is probably a bigger issue than JLaw talking about bodily functions of Hiddleston wanting people to like him a little too much. Especially since Hiddleston is known for being very polite and accommodating to reporters and fans and is well liked by the cast AND crew of his films. (O do agree that he tries way to hard to get people to like him. Middle child syndrome?)
Personally, I feel like people are sometimes overly rough on the names you mentioned. The thing is you can “like” someone even if they have deep flaws or at the very least appreciate their talent or looks….so it’s no surprise that some of us don’t mind Tom that much. I like Jack Nicholson but he’s admittedly done some f8cked up things. I think Tom’s a d*ck but I also think this interviewer overreacted spectacularly instead of just tweeting once “dude was late and a dick.” The violence thing is also overblown: Shia punched him, multiple rumors and reddit threads have Iñárritu being so horrible (and violent himself) that people were happy that Tom went after him, and Paul Bettany is also kind of a dick (hell, just look at how he recently went after Jason Stratham). That’s not to say I condone his violence or his d*ckish tendencies, but people are acting like he started punching people out of the blue and in one case Shia punched him. It’s also hard for me to muster up that much sympathy for a 40 year old professional journalist cussing and throwing a temper tantrum on twitter just like Tom Hardy threw a temper tantrum at the press junket.
If your best argument is, “yes, he did those things. But they aren’t really that bad,” you should probably take a step back and realize that argument isn’t very persuasive.
If you like him, you like him. But people are very reasonably reacting to reports that he is jerk on the set, to co-workers, and to other professionals in his industry. It seems a bit strange to lecture at people because they are reacting negatively to such reports after admitting that they are most likely true.
@DIV I’m not saying you have to hate Tom Hardy. If you think he’s a great actor and hot, that’s fine.
I’m just saying a lot of people are excusing consistently bad behavior. There are 3 different reported instances of him physically fighting people. Even if those people were jerks, you can’t hit people in professional settings. I’m almost positive at my job I serve people who are a lot ruder than Bettany and Innaritu and people who are crazier than Labeouf (service industry jobs suck). But if I punch someone, I’m going to get fired. Because that’s inexcusable behavior.
If it was just one reporter complaining, I would probably just write it off as a misunderstanding, or the reporter being a brat. But this is very consistent bad behavior.
@Die Zicke
Oh I don’t excuse his behavior. He can be a total d*ck at times even if he’s notoriously nice to fans and dogs and violence is never the answer. I just am explaining why some people aren’t ready to write him off as on Sean Penn’s level or anything.
They’re actors. So why can’t they just act the part on junkets, which is what so many actors do.
He probably thinks he is an “artiste.” Well I thought that he sucked in that twins movie.
LMAO, WOW…just when I think the casual racism and sexism on this site couldn’t get any more blatant, you ladies deliver. The impressive mental gymnastics you lot go through to excuse/downplay white men’s f*ckery.
If this were a man of colour I doubt there’d be so many people excusing so much violent and uprofessional behavior. Don’t even get me started on how harshly women are treated. Some of the same people who rip J.Law to shreads for telling poop jokes are here defending this violent thug!! YIKES.
Nah, if it was Idris Elba the same stuff would be going on.
All I can say is that he’s perfected the angst-ridden actor role. He just needs to throw some telephones and mess up some hotel rooms.
This is where I say this about celebrities. There are some really spoiled cry babies in this cease pool. This really pains me to say this, but TOM Hardy I am so over you…. It is bad enough you are rude to every on including your co stars but a gian asshole to reporters. That’s it I have had it… List of people I hate:
Kim and Kanye west…. Nuff said
Sean Penn and Bono … For being so pretentious
Jesse Eisenberg Fire being an arrogant high horse’s ass
Alicia Vikander and her smug and oh so pretty what’s up her butt career
Now TOM Hardy …fore being such a giant douchebag
I can’t think of anymore… This is what I got so far. So say something!
This is funny because it’s all SO untrue and nonsense. I was at the junket the day Drew was there. Tom Hardy did all his TV interviews that day paired with Leo. Neither actor was ever scheduled to complete any interviews solo for TV. So Drew’s accusation of Tom specifically denying him an interview is completely false. That wasn’t even possible during that junket day, because the studio had Tom paired with Leo for everything. I know for a fact Tom never denied him an interview, nor ever even had direct contact with this journalist. So how exactly was he rude? I’m confused. And even more confused why Drew is saying Tom didn’t show up until 3 hours late? That’s completely untrue too. Tom did on-camera interviews all day with Leo, starting that morning and worked all the way up until his flight that evening. True, the day did ran long (as any junket does), but not because of any of the actors failing to show up. In fact, the two of them worked their asses off that day. (you can see several of the interviews already posted on youtube). Sounds like a lot of misinformation going around…
If what you’re saying is true, then I wonder why Drew has only gone after Hardy and not Leo as well. Evidently, he’s not that big yet to be left alone.
That’s what I don’t understand. It doesn’t make sense why it was so directed at Hardy.
Big names don’t get called out. A principle.
This Drew guy will get blacklisted for this, especially if Hardy is such a Warner Bro and very good friends with actors like DiCaprio. I mean, Hardy can be married and have 2 kids, but him and Leo seem to be 2 peas in a pod…
However, reading Lainey’s account at TIFF (Hardy purposely ignored the press, waiting for him under the rain) does not bode well for how he behaves, I worked in junkets so I understand how trying they are (and I’ve seen and been subjected to worse behaviour than this) but it’s their job and if they don’t like a question they can deflect and move on (or walk out like RDJr did once).
I’ve seen both sides of the same coin: rude, obnoxious journalists trying to get a scandalous soundbite, and spoilt, petulant actors/musicians refusing to do their jobs.
Guess this Drew guy wanted attention and picked Hardy because of his rep and because he’s not a big enough star to do something about it? I’ve no dog in this fight but now I wonder how much of these reports of his ‘violent tendencies’ are true or perhaps exaggerated.
Thanks mate. I was at that junket too and you’re absolutely right about this!! In my opinion Drew’s a spoiled baby himself! I know this is a gossip site but i can’t stand it when only the half truth is told…yees!
This is a question to both you and Matt, I am just wondering if this did not take place…why has no one stepped in countered Drew’s tweets about Tom? Is that something a publicity person would do, or is it just better to let it go away on it’s own? Because if Drew is lying, that’s slander then.
Tom Hardy has just made public his response via all social media accounts for TomHardyDotOrg
The letter basically backs Matt’s story, and some. He also almost challenged Drew to rant to his face and called him out on it.
Isn’t being a douche his schtick? I don’t understand why directors choose to work with him. He sure as hell isn’t talented enough to justify such unprofessional behavior.
If you knew Tom a little bit better, you also knew directors and co-actors are speaking with great respect and affection of him. Don’t believe every blown up story about him being a douche on set. They have always a lot of fun when Tom’s around. He’s not an unprofessional dick but he can be intense sometimes; that’s a different thing. Watch all the interviews i did in the past years and you will understand. I don’t think he acted right at the junket but he’s not suddenly just a dick..
Lainey’s take: http://www.laineygossip.com/Hitfixs-Drew-McWeeny-Twitter-rant-over-Tom-Hardy-blow-off/41558
When will people realise that no one owes them anything? And that crying over Twitter about someone they dont know being ‘unprofessional’ is utterly unprofessional in itself. Get your ego sorted or find another career, this one clearly isnt working out for you. Londoners dont care about whiney journos, get over it.
I totally second this!
Bad manners + unprofessional behavior = always a turnoff.
Wow. What a huge giant pain in the ass it must be to say a few dozen words and not be a sh$t to reporters. Earn a million a year. It is your JOB. I think it’s going to be a pain in mine to avoid your movies. Actors like this have no humility and don’t deserve a job or an audience.
My last comment on this site:
READ Tom’s reaction in an open letter to Drew MCWeeney (TomHardy.org) …that clarifies everything. I’m glad he gave this reaction because it’s unfair to read all the time “Tom’s an asshole” for he’s NOT you know! He gave the best reaction possible; ferm but with a tough of humor! Well done Tom!
Britt, I read it today and I am DELIGHTED he responded – I’m so surprised he hasn’t gone to the journo’s house to hit him if all the posters on this site are to be trusted. How tedious to believe every morsel of negativity dished up about someone.
And in his reply he says that he and Leo were doing all the interviews together so he couldn’t have taken a nap – but he says he wish he could have 🙂 LOL. I like him. I like Leo more, but Tom Hardy is a brilliant actor too!
And that ‘twins’ movie. It’s called Legend, and he is remarkable as the Kray twins.
Yeah, it was THE perfect response! I can’t stand injustice you know. Tom’s my favorite actor and he was absolutely brilliant as the Kray twins. I think he’s a genius and i hope he will be around for a long, long time…
Tom Hardy is not shine too much as actor,I can see from these comments, let’s don’t think too bad of his.

I’m gonna go grab some popcorn cause this is gonna be good.
