Prince William showed off his new, dramatically shorter hair: love it or hate it?

146598PCN_Royals12

Many of you have already seen these photos and talked about them, but we got the pics in later than I was expecting, and I still think they’re worth discussing now, a few days late. Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, the entire Middleton gang and some assorted royals (including the Queen) stepped out at Sandringham on Sunday for a ceremony honoring the fallen of the Gallipoli campaign during World War I. The ceremony involved tweed, wreaths, fur hats and what was apparently a Middleton-friendly lunch at the Queen’s Sandringham residence. This might have been the Queen’s birthday present to Kate – Kate celebrated her 34th b-day on Saturday, so the Queen was like, “What the hell, go ahead and invite your parents and siblings!”

Kate wore a repeat – this tweed Michael Kors suit was seen just a few weeks ago, just after Christmas. It costs $2990, so she better repeat it! Surprisingly though, Kate’s look didn’t cause the most buzz around the royal blogs. The operative word is “buzz” – look at William’s dramatically shorter hair! I like it. Even though it ages him, even though you can really see how much hair he’s lost (not to mention how much the Windsor genes have been kicking in), I still like it. I know it’s difficult for men to lose their hair, and even more difficult for them to admit it, but I think William might have come to that place, where he acknowledges that his hair is MIA and there’s no use in trying to cleverly mask it with combovers and the like.

Apparently, William’s hair was cut by Amanda Cook Tucker, who has been cutting and styling William and Harry’s hair for years. Tucker currently works for Kate as something of an on-call hair stylist. I believe Tucker did Kate’s hair for both of her post-birth debuts, and I know Tucker was Kate’s hair person on the tour of Australia and New Zealand.

A few more things… photographers got a snap of Kate giving the Queen a deep curtsy – go here to see. I also read some royal-reporter gossip that Kate spent her birthday (Saturday) on a pheasant hunt with William? Is that how you’d like to spend your birthday? Then again, we’re not royal-by-marriage, I guess.

This looks so much better. He should have gone even shorter.

    • LadyMTL says:

That’s exactly what I was thinking…the shorter cut could be even shorter, lol. Maybe he’s just not ready to commit to the whole “I have no hair” thing? I can understand, my brother is starting to lose his hair in the front and he hates it (he’s maybe a year older than William)…he keeps it cut quite short for that reason alone.

    • GiGi says:

Yes! My hubs is balding and I really prefer a balding man with close cropped hair. So much better!

      • Nancy says:

I worked with a lawyer who is almost completely bald. He is a handsome guy. He and his wife went on a cruise and his toupee was having a rough time in the wind. His wife removed it and tossed it in the ocean! I love this story, she loves him for who he is, not for his hair or lack thereof….afterthought….Bruce Willis, after years of bad toupees, decided to free himself and still is attractive. People can be so superficial.

      • Size Does Matter says:

@Nancy, I love that story. My husband is balding with very short hair and my ex-husband was balding and had a shaved head. I can’t remember what it was like to run my fingers through a man’s hair.

But isn’t it the mom who passes on the balding gene?

      • FLORC says:

The mother’s father’s hairline decides. However, in cases of BRF bloodlines, the BRF genes can trump all.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      So much better.

    • Shambles says:

It’s amazing what a good haircut can do. He looks great.

I know I’ve teased him about his bald spot, but I’m proud of Lil Will. Like Kaiser said, it’s got to be hard for a man to accept that he’s losing his hair. Just as hard as it is for a woman to accept the signs of aging, men just don’t get to talk about it very much (but they tend to get a little less grief for it than the ladies do).

    • Esmom says:

Yes, big improvement. Maybe next time he’ll go shorter.

    • khaveman says:

Totally agree! Clip that short and be done with it. He has a cute face and the side hair was just weird.

  2. Senaber says:

    Is that Pippa’s Harry-snagging dress?

    • Who ARE these people? says:

I know, right? Out of place.

    • Liv says:

Especially combined with the hat. Her hat looks like she’s in Russia, while her dress tells us that it can’t be that cold. Embarrassing.

      • Canadian Becks says:

I can’t figure out if Pippa’s outfit is a dress, or a coat?
If it is a coat, then just HOW SHORT is the dress that you cannot see it under the coat?

      • Citresse says:

I think Pippa likes jeggings just like sis.

    • anne_000 says:

Can you imagine Pippa curtsying for the Queen in that short short coat? Does QE2 need to see that much more of Pippa’s body parts?

And like someone here said, the dress under that coat must be really short for it not to be seen.

  3. Naya says:

Whoa. He is too young to be looking so mothy already. Just do like Bruce Willis and pack it in. Besides Sean Connery not many guys can pull off that half balding looking.

    • wendi says:

it’s like he’s aged 20 years in 10….. could say the same about James M. — what’s with the beard? Really, why would someone in their 20’s WANT to look 45-50?

      • Mira says:

All the guys have beards nowadays. Started as a hipster thing, now its mainstream.

      • greta says:

Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt & Rob Lowe are alll 50+ and the illustrious businessman Middleton looks older than all 3. He’s in his 20’s? Really

  4. Freebunny says:

It’s not like he has many option with his hair, or lack of.

  5. Katydid04 says:

Unfortunately I don’t think there’s a better option for him. But that hair……..yeah, it’s not doing it for me.

  6. Betti says:

Age is not being kind to the Buckets. He’s getting more and more like his Uncle Edward as he gets older.

Not sure he’d suit being completely bald. He can always borrow Waity’s wiglet – she has quite a collection.

  7. Susan says:

I love Kates suit, even if the skirt is a little long for my taste.

But what is UP with Pippa’s outfit?? Embarrassing. Being American, I ever entirely understood the British snobbery about the Middletons….but maybe I do now. Lol.

    • Betti says:

The reason why the Middletons get a lot of snark from the British public is their classless, grasping behaviour, if they behaved in a less fameho, more dignified way then there wouldn’t be an issue. The entire family has courted the press since the beginning and used their royal connections for their own personal and financial gain – do you really think they pay to go to Mustique? Everything is comped – free use of villa’s, free flights courtesy of the Bransons. Not to mention the £1million tax payer renovations that was done to their mansion in the name of ‘security’ which really irked us tax payers as we basically paid to do up their new house.

      • Bella says:

do you really think they pay to go to Mustique? Everything is comped – free use of villa’s, free flights courtesy of the Bransons.

Really? How do you know this? Are their bank statements made public? Can you show me where?

      • bluhare says:

They might get free flights on Virgin through a Branson connection; don’t know. But they do get very low cost or free flights on BA as former employees of BA. And the Mustique villa they stay at is owned by a friend.

      • FLORC says:

        Bluhare
A few times theyve taken private jets and chartered “puddle jumpers” so they might pay for that. Although, the security costs are completely covered by tax funds. And if Security is on that plane (and you know they are) how much of tax funds covered the transportation?

Too much shows their lifestyle is heavily covered by funds outside of their own so this doesn’t feel like a stretch to me.

      • greta says:

FLORC – please clarify—-do you mean the royals’ costs are completely covered or the Middletons?

      • FLORC says:

        greta
        Not sure what you mean.
The Middleton’s appear to “piggyback” on others. By extension of Kate they get many perks and items at no cost to themselves because of their daughter. Like their home expansion and remodling. They also get costs picked up by friends like their Mustique vacation spot is a friends villa.

And the BRF can bill much to the taxpayers and they do. Kate is showing us that those things are also used as private use or a loophole to avoid paying out of pocket.

I guess I mean yas to both, but not completely. Just a great deal if the system is properly exploited.

      • anne_000 says:

James Matthews’ family owns Eagle Resort or whatever that’s called at St Barts to which James, Pippa, and Carole go to. The first two have been there twice in the past 3 months, iirc.

From what I’ve read of posts here, security at the Middleton place is taxpayers’ paid because Kate goes there a lot and that includes hardware, not just guards.

      • FLORC says:

        Regarding the Midds Renovations.
The Midds new estate got at least 1 million pounds in renovations because Kate was to stay there in her pregnancy with George and for around months after.
A reason was given because KP was still under re-renovations.
This included new windows, Bombproof doors, upgrading the main kitchen to everything top line. Structural upgrades, a new wing for Kate to include everything for a single family home with large nursery, nanny room, prep kitchen, master bed and baths.

Also, staff housing in 1 of the estates outhouses with newly built or renovated security housing and offices.

This had to happen because Kate and George were residing there full time without William. I say full time because where there is the security brigade there is a royal.
Since this was all done in the name of security it was on tax pounds. If the Midds paid for anything privately it was not added to this sum submitted for security sake.

      • notasugarhere says:

All of that was completely unnecessary. There was absolutely no reason why they couldn’t have stayed at the Anglesey home (with the million dollar front door and other security) or the 2 bedroom Nottingham Cottage at Kensington where they already lived.

      • Olenna says:

A while back someone commented on a royal thread that the Midds’ renovations were likely done under the guise of *royal security* improvements in order to obscure the fact that they wanted or needed upgrades but couldn’t personally afford them. But, I guess we’ll never know, just like it’s a still a mystery as to how the new loan was paid off so quickly. Also, not to thread-jack, but I’ll pass on some Midds gossip that maybe CB will report on later: Apparently, one of Pipp’s rich ex’s is seriously trying to woo her.

    • suze says:

This is a particularly egregious example here. They are finally invited to a royal event, en famille, and there is all this performing for the camera going on.

Darlings, I am a peasant through and through and even I know you sail through, smiling pleasantly, and ignore the photographers.

    • notasugarhere says:

I’m more concerned that her mother is wearing almost the same outfit and borrowing her daughter’s hat.

Kaiser, it is my understanding it was a public service anyone could attend. The Middletons are at the service, but not at the service WITH the BRF.

      • Betti says:

From what I can see from the photos it looks like Carol is wearing the skirt of the MK outfit Waity wore on Xmas day – the brown one.

      • hmmm says:

Oh, snap! I said almost the same thing downthread about twinsies. I just don’t get it. Seems bizarre to me.

      • wolfie says:

It was probably last minute, and they pooled all their formal clothing. The Middleton’s were at church, but not the wreath laying ceremony afterward. http://harryandthecambridges.tumblr.com/post/137035585008/thebritgirl-i-think-the-middleton-women-may

      • Cricket says:

Not only that but they all appear to be wearing the same exact black boots! Did they all get dressed from Kate’s wardrobe? Does she have multiple pairs of the same boots?

the brown hat Carole is wearing is totally Kate’s go to St. Paddy’s Day hat and the fur hat Pippa is wearing is also a Kate hat that she has worn to some races in the dating era.

      • FLORC says:

Yikes! That’s shady if there’s that link of Carole and Pippa directly benefit off of Kate’s tax paid items.
There’s a level of ignorance i’m willing to apply.
And that possibly Pippa and Carole buy exact duplicates of things Kate buys.
Given the history that they all do share clothing that holds less.

They’re all wealthy enough to buy their own. Work clothes and private clothes really need to be seperated. Unless those clothes stop getting billed to tax funds and start getting covered out of pocket by those wearing them.
It’s little, but if so many little leaks and abuses of budgets could be handled and trimmed many debt issues would be handled better.

      • Senaber says:

Man this makes me really hope that my daughter grows up the same size as me, but with much fancier clothes. I will wear her hand-me-ups. NO SHAME.

I do think it’s poor taste to wear the “official” tax-funded outfits of the future queen.

      • anne_000 says:

Yes, and I think the Queen didn’t lunch with them either.

Iirc of what posts have said, Charles apparently claims business tax deductions for Kate’s clothes on top of them being paid for by taxpayers. So the Middletons ‘borrowing’ or receiving them as gifts by Kate doesn’t look good.

When people criticize Kate’s style as being old and matronly, keep in mind that she has to make sure 60-year-old Mama Rose Carole can wear them too. What’s good for Mama is good for Kate.

  8. Kri says:

So now we know who is responsible for the Royal Hair.Perhaps Will had no choice. BUT Kate and the Xanadu wings?? High treason! !

  9. suze says:

Embrace the change, Wills. Shorter hair works for the balding, and you are among their numbers now.

Kate’s suit is perfect for the occasion, fits well, and will be reusable. I dislike those turtlenecks but she has the long neck and she suits them.

Pipps looks ridiculously attention-mongering in her fluffy hat and mini. This is a commemoration service, not an audition for War and Peace, 2010 version. Follow your mother’s lead, she is appropriately attired.

All McBuckets! Attention! Do not gape into the photographers lenses! I would think that you would know that by now. Sail on by, like the royals do. Pretend you are a ship in the night.

    • Betti says:

Lol at the last comment. it was bad wasn’t it. Pimp Mamma Mids was really mugging for the cameras, she was looking right at them. We’re used to Pips and James mugging but Carol was really working it.

      • Cricket says:

i mentioned in previous thread but I seriously was waiting for the Hyacinth wave from Carole as she was walking past ‘her’ admirers

    • bluhare says:

LOL Suze. Maybe she’s trying to make comparisons to Tuppence Middleton (starring in War & Peace which is currently showing in the UK). Apparently Tuppence’s character snogs quite a crowd. 🙂

    • zinjojo says:

The Midds look so thirsty in the photos. Carole is positively gleeful in her mugging for the cameras. As so many others have stated, Pippa’s outfit was completely inappropriate, and James appears to STILL be wearing that awful blue Nehru vest under his coat.

      • Betti says:

I’ve always thought that given half the chance Carol would be out there with her own public profile – the ‘article’ that she published after Charlottes birth (something about baby parties i think) was a floater to see how the public would react to another Middleton cashing is on their royal connections. Its bad enough with her siblings but her mother, that would be too much for the public to take.

Carol is as thirsty as her children is.

      • FLORC says:

        Betti
There were a few stories from what we now know to be journos friendly with the Midds around the wedding and when baby talk first emerged.
The stories centered around Party Pieces being able to sell souvenirs related to WK. And then market their items as baby shower related with touches of royalty. It was much too close and appeared to cross a line of banking off the royal couples image. Which they would have to consent to I believe.

Not certain what shut it all down. The public backlash, the BRF, William, or something else, but they did back off. If it was left to them I suspect that behavior would have continued unfiltered.

      • Betti says:

FLORC. I remember that and the backlash – if it was floated am sure that W&K would have been on board to some degree. That must sting, not being able to sell trashy souvenirs of your daughters wedding etc.. while others make a mint off it. The grasping behaviour has been toned down somewhat but I think that they are still trying to get on the Royal money making bandwagon – am convinced Amner Organics will happen, with her family ‘helping’ to run it with the promise of getting a large slice of the Duchy Originals business when he becomes PoW.

      • FLORC says:

        Betti
Anmer Organics is already happening under another name with the Dutchy. Why WK are not taking on that (and shifting into Prince’s Trust) is nuts imo. they can alter it to leave their own print, but instead would see it crumble.

Unless, this new formation allows the introduction of the Midds or elements of their chosing into the fold. Which i’m told is croony? Crony? croanyism? Ah spelling! Which is when you hire your friends in that may not benefit the business.
        Anyways, it seems pointless.
But what isn’t pointless? WK own charity umbrella system. Accepts donations and distributes as they wish in their own time. Not really assisting charities with much more than funds in their own time. That sort of set up is commonly abused for theft. Outside private authorities accepting funds intended for charitible use. Funds collect interest awaiting placement. Overhead of this outside 3rd party is whatever they say it is and can take a cut of that donation. It’s all so shady.
Meanwhile the PT is by my understanding very amazing and very active in results.

        I drifted and ranted there…

      • Betti says:

FLORC. Wow i didn’t realise it was already happening. Yes i agree this is clearly an exercise in cronyism as its obvs that the Middletons will have some involvement in it, they are after all successful businesspeople that he trusts . The charitable fund is something that will come back and bite him on the ass – he’s learned how to keep his financial dealings secret from the Mids who themselves are very good at it.

I just can’t with her and her family – she’s a Middleton first and will do whatever to get her family to where they want to be. Aristo’s with wealth and a title or 2. Its not so much the mugging for the press that annoys me but the behind the scenes grasping – the RPO’s for personal use (inc. the financial perks), the ‘security’ renovations, asking for freebies, the leaking’s to the press etc.. They’ve made it but it will never be enough, they will always want more. Plus I always wonder what they promised Uncle Gary in exchange for unlimited access to his money.

The PT is a very transparent organisation, Chuck set it up that way. He wanted people to see where the money was going and the good it was doing. I do have a soft spot for the old dear – his heart is in the place of best interests.

      • FLORC says:

        Betti
To my understanding their charity umbrella org is not up and running. It’s still being formed. It’s the outline of what they are forming that has me casting major shade on. And the charities they’ve said to aligned with is more to see celebs with a few staple causes tossed in imo. Their outline is almost exclusively what you read about with charity scams and misuse of funds. To attach a name to work of good deeds without actually doing anything.

I’m speculating this is where William will finally donate his 40k salary he’s sat on for over a year from his copilot job. No one has even spoken to where it is pledged. It’s just not being discussed anymore and he got paid upfront.

I can only suspect it’s because PT is as you said “transparent” and this allows more honest dealings with direct results. You donate and can see the money do good. Why William would avoid stepping into that makes little sense. It does require involvement.

  10. Anastasia says:

He needs to go even shorter, but this is a step in the right direction.

I had the same reaction the rest of you did to the picture of the Middleton family. I cringed at the thirst.

  11. Div says:

Kate and William look the best they have in a long, long time. The short hair works on him.

  12. BW says:

All the color in Kate’s tweed suit and she went with black accessories? Even Wills wore a purple tie. That suit would have looked better with any color than black.

And Pippa’s miniskirt was totally inappropriate.

    • Janis says:

On that note, is this William’s one and only suit? I swear that I’ve only ever seen him in a dark blue suits. Does he have a closet full of them to go along with his wife’s closet full of blue coats? To me mind a somber charcoal grey suit would have been more appropriate for the occation given his status. Just a thought…

  13. OSTONE says:

They truly look good! She doesn’t have her hair on her face, and that outfit is solemn and appropriate. He looks much better with that haircut! And wtf is Pippa wearing?

  14. grabbyhands says:

The new cut is a good idea. There should come a time in every balding man’s life where you just have to give up the fantasy that no one can tell that you’re rapidly losing your hair and just embrace it. Most times, a shaved head is going to make you look way better anyway.

I’m not saying it is an easy thing to accept, mind you.

    • Brittney B. says:

Yeah, his hair is what I remember most about his teen years… he probably grew to view it as an essential part of his image, just in time for it to head south. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine a time when Will was the hotter price.

  15. Brittney B. says:

Diana would be so proud that her son is still celebrating special occasions by killing animals…

But you know… tradition. Because that excuse has never steered humanity wrong before.

(Aaaaaand I posted this comment before seeing all the dead skin hanging off those women. I don’t remember seeing Kate in fur, but her mom and sister still think it’s glamorous, apparently. As a vegan I’m well aware that animals are brutally killed for thousands of other reasons… but I really thought the fur thing was fading away, and in recent years, it’s like cruelty is in vogue again. Off to cuddle my two rabbits…)

    • JulieM says:

I believe it was the day after Christmas when the Queen was photographed in a full length mink coat. Sophie also sported a huge fur collar on her coat about the same time. I also thought the fur thing was fading away.

    • notasugarhere says:

KM has worn fur in the past. Some was “gifted” to her and passed to her sister and mother. The fur skiing hats come to mind. There was talk that their purchased fur items come from a shop that takes old furs and re-purposes them into new items.

      • FLORC says:

She likes fur. Or liked it anyways. Fur and hunting are 2 things Kate only stopped her involvement in the presence of cameras because of public backlash.

  16. Syko says:

Just thankful that he didn’t go for the combover.

    • Citresse says:

Charles is still grooming his (grey) curly combover. Didn’t you see it flapping on tour in the AUS breeze more recently?

  17. What's inside says:

The Windsor genes are to blame! Thank goodness Harry takes after the Spencers.

  18. Canadian Becks says:

“…..Apparently, William’s hair was cut by Amanda Cook Tucker, who has been cutting and styling William and Harry’s hair for years”

Ms. Tucker, I hope you’ve been socking away your pay, because your days as Royal hair wrangler are numbered.

As the Heir’s hair, and the Spare’s hair go, so shall you!

  19. Die Zicke says:

So much better. I think when guys start thinning out, they should crop their hair. Longer hair just brings attention to the fact that they’re balding.

A22nd a lot of women do the same thing. As they get older and their hair starts thinning, they start cutting their hair shorter.

  20. wow says:

I can’t really see much difference, but embracing the baldness can only help him.

  21. hmmm says:

He looks kinda pointy headed to me, and decidedly unattractive- his inner finally meets his outer.

Is it just me seeing Carole and Waity went twinsies here? Is she also wearing Waity’s hat, the one taxpayers paid for?

    • Betti says:

The Middleton women are known to share clothes with each other, particularly during the GF years, Kate would often be seen out on clothes that were her mothers.

Am not surprised this has continued, given that Kate is a class AAA+ shopper that must have amassed quite the wardrobe by now and she is rarely seen wearing the same outfit more than once. She could wear it once and give it to mummy and little sister. The only issue I have with this is that Kate’s ‘working’ wardrobe is payed for indirectly by the tax payer and I think we tax payers have given the Middletons quite enough thank u (see the £1million security renovations that were done on their new home).

  22. The Original Mia says:

Slightly better, but let’s be real…he needs to shave it.

Kate wearing the same outfit she wore 2 weeks ago is silly. Especially when we know she’s got other clothes in her closet.

The thirst of the Middleton women is embarrassing. W&K’s friends are acting better on the walk than Ma & Pips.

  23. Michelle says:

Is it me or is Will starting to look more and more like his Uncle Andrew???

    • Canadian Becks says:

Andrew still has most of his hair. I think PW looks much more like Edward. Much more.

      • justme says:

Actually except for the hairline William doesn’t really look like Edward. Edward looks like a male version of the Queen. William is facially more like his own mother.

I like the new cut. He doesn’t need to shave it all off – this is neat and fine and he is comfortable with it. Not every balding man is required to look like a billiard cue. Not all heads look good with it all shaved off.

Kate looks nice with her hair under control as well! 🙂

      • perplexed says:

I think William has gotten the Windsor features unfortunately. I don’t really see much of a resemblance to Diana, except where the old hair used to be.

I don’t think of Kate as unusually beautiful but next to him she looks gorgeous to me now.

  24. Tifygodess says:

I feel like my generation is aging so much faster than previous generations. And its not just the whole “oh drink more water and wear sunscreen” because even in optimal conditions people seem to look older. People in their 20s and 30s seem to be graying way sooner, balding faster, getting fine lines/wrinkles sooner and so forth, especially compared to the age their parents or grandparents experienced aging.

    • BeeBee says:

Funny you mention this…I too notice how much more people in their 20’s and 30’s are graying….a lot.

      • FLORC says:

Or they’re just not covering it up with hair dye? And are more accepting of their natural aging?
Because you notice it does not mean it wasn’t there before.

Nope – I’m in my late fifties and I remember in my twenties and thirties just as many people going bald (my sweet husband!), going gray (me! and all my maternal family!) and getting wrinkles as now. My mother (born in 1930) started to go gray when she was in her mid-twenties, as did her father (born in the 19th century). It is just one of those genetic things. What drove my mother crazy was that she was allergic to all the hair dyes available in the 1960s.

The crazy youth culture is at fault. Your generation is aging no more rapidly than previous generations. Lots of people start going bald or grey in their twenties and by their thirties are completely so.

There is so much hiding and touching up and crazy youth seeking therapies that a lot of people don’t realize how early the natural aging process starts.

When is the arrival of the goatee?

    • anne_000 says:

And the male version of the pony tail.

      • Citresse says:

William has a very strong jaw line and a large head and when you factor in his height and build, a goatee would/should look good on him, though given his sparse beard he grew back in 2008, I hope the goatee would grow in thicker now, or it won’t look that good with the buzz cut.

  26. teacakes says:

I actually like her outfit, it has that tweedy 40s classic thing going on, and the updo+hat look really pretty. I’d wear it all in a heartbeat, and normally I never feel that way because her taste is so basic.

William…… dunno why he doesn’t just shave the lot off. I mean, he’s no Zizou but he really would look even better if he just embraced the baldness. Though I have to give him some credit for not resorting to hair plugs and the like.

  27. Wentworth Miller says:

He’s bald. What else is he gonna do? It looks a lot better, tho

  28. perplexed says:

I know the Windsor gene takes over these people’s faces, but when I look at old photos I really think Charles was better looking than William at his current age (33?).

  29. Penelope says:

Wills needs to let it go & let it shine! I think he’s going to make a very good-looking baldie.

  30. LMR15 says:

I’m 28 and have a few random straggler KINKY grey hairs. Sucks. Anyway Wills should have gone shorter and embraced it. Looks weird with such a bald spot. How old is he? Is he really in his early 30’s and so bald? Weird. My dad is in his 50’s and still have thick curly hair.

    • FLORC says:

There’s not an age where people go bald or gray. It happens to many of us. And because your father has kept his hair does not make that the norm or standard.
By large many people regrow hair over going bald and dye to hold back grays.
Kate has had grays and is near completely gray by evidence of her roots before treatments. William is indeed 33 and has been losing his hair after his early 20’s. Both are average happenings.

    • anne_000 says:

I think Edward went bald early too.

I agree that William should have gone much shorter.

Why don’t either William or Harry try Rogaine or hair transplant? Is that too much for their egos?

      • FLORC says:

Too much for their egos to age naturally? It could be argued to be a ego move to resist hair loss. That is the more common reasoning. I believe you have it backwards. Much like Trump has a comb over. Large egos are thought to resist showing human qualities like aging. To choose not to hide what some see as a frail appearance. To lose hair. It’s a marketing angle Rogain and others in hair replacement thrive on.

I appreciate anyone who ages naturally. Bald or gray. It’s obvious when people try to hide it.

      • Canadian Becks says:

You are equating William not using any preventative measures with a refreshing lack of ego, to which I can only say- really?!?

Might as well prescribe it to his general laziness, his lack of self-awareness, and his contrary nature that seems to want to prove God knows what by deliberately defying advice given by those who are paid to advise him.

You are giving him entirely too much credit.

  31. anne_000 says:

The photo makes it look like Kate gave that curtsy with people in between her and the Queen. What a weird thing to do. Could she not get any closer to the Queen?

Looking at various photos, including those of Kate, York sisters, and Sophie wearing knee-length or shorter dresses, I’ve noticed the differences in their curtsies. Kate curtsies by crossing at the ankles and spreading her knees wide open while the Yorks and Sophie cross their thighs over each other. And then I’ve seen Kate do a quick bob up and down for Philip. Like a plastic fishing buoy, not that deep bobbing and done super fast.

    • Canadian Becks says:

I am more than a little fascinated by your analysis. I enjoy looking at the different curtsying styles of various royals. In this day and age, it is such an anachronism that the fact it is still being executed fascinates me. But I still like to see how the different personalities of various people might play a part. For instance, when you said Kate executes hers with her knees spread wide apart, I wondered how that would look if she was wearing a shorter skirt. Wouldn’t that particular stance in a short skirt look vulgar? In a different outfit, would she adopt a different style?

And it makes sense that the York sisters would execute theirs in a similar fashion. I will try to notice when they do theirs.

There is a very well written blog that delves a bit into this particular curtsy and mentions that there is a touch of “defiance” on Kate’s part. It is the first post on http://lovelolaheart.com/

      • candice says:

I like that blog too — I had a peek today and she has a photo of Kate (albeit an older one) giving the “v” to the paps (Brit version of the finger). First time I’ve ever seen such behaviour from the lovely Duchess.

  32. seesittellsit says:

Makes him look more like his Uncle Edward – not in a good way.

  33. Kori says:

My hubby is 45 and has a very thin spot up top–not as far progressed as William’s. But he’s in the military so his hair is always short anyway. I think when you’re in that position, very short hair is the way to go.

  34. Angel says:

Why try and save any hair?? He needs to go all the way bald which is very masculine and sexy! If he wants hair, he can try for a goatee to get a real modern, groomed look!

Bet if he did that, a lot of other balding men would follow!
