Jennifer Garner’s hairdresser does ‘mussed-up, mom-chic’ hair, ‘he gets me’

Jennifer Garner has new blurbs on People Magazine and US about the fact that she presented her hairdresser with an award at something called The Image Makers Awards, which is new this year and put on by Marie Claire. (I’m writing this as I’m sitting at my hairdresser’s waiting for my dye to set so this is particularly timely for me. My colorist needs an award he’s amazing.) Garner wore this blue Prada empire waist gown which is just unflattering. I don’t get the fit of this at all.

Garner’s hair guy is Adir Abergel, who also works with Kristen Stewart, Rooney Mara and Anne Hathaway. Given some of the hairstyles those women have sported, I don’t know if he’s as deserving as they claim, but I guess several of them had to grow out hair they had cut for roles. Garner also describes her hair as “mussed-up, undone mom-chic” and explains that Abergel works with her to give her the style she wants, which makes a lot of sense when we consider his other clients.

Although Garner, 43, was blown away by the roped braid Abergel created for Rooney Mara at the 2016 Golden Globes, she has faith he’d never take such risks on her own head. “I have no funk. It would not go,” the Miracles from Heaven star said. “But he knows that. And he knows how to give me mussed-up, undone mom-chic. He gets me. He gets my hair.”

“When all is said and done, and he’s sprayed you into place, you kind of look in the mirror and go, ‘Ah, wow. Thank you. Oh, that’s lovely. I wish I had a date!'”

Garner raves about Abergel’s professional talents, but it’s his friendship that she counts on the most. “[When] all else fails, like the bottom drops out of your life, you call Adir,” she explained.

[From US Magazine]

People Magazine is running with the “Jennifer Garner wants a date” angle and they also have some predictable insider quotes about the state of Garner’s uncoupling. A source tells them that Garner and Affleck are taking their time with the divorce and that “this more seems like a transitional period. They don’t seem in a rush to figure out the divorce details and will deal with it in the new year.” People also reports that they’re still living “under the same roof” although we’ve heard that Ben is staying in a guest house on their estate so that’s not exactly accurate. I was going to put the details about their “transitional period” in the title but I figured you guys would rather talk about her hair. We’ve heard about their divorce ad nauseam.

Garner doesn’t have “mom-chic hair,” although I don’t even know what that means, she just has decent hair. I don’t covet her hair or anything, but it’s not bad now that the bangs are gone. There’s one style which comes to mind when I hear “mom hair,” and it’s commonly called the “can I speak to the manager” haircut. So many women have this terrible style in the south where I live and I don’t understand why it’s popular.

Here’s Garner with her buddy Jessica Biel. They were in that Valentine’s Day movie together. (I didn’t see it, I just heard it was awful.)

And here she is with Kristen Stewart, also a client of her hairdresser, below. K.Stew’s outfit is on point.

Love her hair. Hate the dress. And why is it so wrinkled??

    • Esmom says:

If there’s anything I learned from Project Runway, it’s that satin type fabric is the worst for wrinkling. Bad choice.

    • Shambles says:

She looks stunning from the neck up, really beautiful. But that dress looks like something I had for my American Girl doll when I was 7.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Off topic, but I’m so mad that I Am too old to have had the American Girl dolls. Lol, I want one now, but that would be weird. If I meet a little girl who has one I’m so excited if I get to get her a present.

      • Shambles says:

You can has mine, GNAT. I’ll do doll hair with you.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Lol, that would be so fun.

      • Lauren II says:

Jen is so pretty from the neck up. That horrible dress makes her look frumpy and droopy.
Please divorce Ben–he is ruining you.

      • Kosmos says:

Really…..the color and cut of the dress just doesn’t work!! I love Jen though, always have. She still has that natural beauty and seems like a happy woman who loves being a mother. Too bad she married Ben, but maybe it was good for a long time and worked for them. It just wasn’t meant to last. He was never ever the marrying kind or family kind of guy, so it always puzzled me when they married and then had the brood…..I guess he wants to go back to his bachelor days, and she’ll move on to some really deserving man who wants a big family.

    • V4Real says:

What the hell is Jennifer Garner doing to her face? She needs to leave it alone.

      • Sabrine says:

Jennifer Garner is the never ending frump. She wears grey on a daily basis, usually cardigans, ugly t-shirts and sweat tops. Now I see she’s carried it over to her dresses. About once every five years she wears a primary color and looks vibrant and alive, pretty as a picture, not even worth mentioning really since it happens so rarely.

I don’t get the “can I speak to a manager haircut?” – isn’t it just a bob? What’s wrong with it?

    • Esmom says:

That photo made me laugh because my co-worker has that exact same cut and everyone thinks it’s so daring and sassy compared to all of us with our long haired, lower maintenance mom hairstyles.

    • Skyblue says:

      I agree, what’s wrong with a bob?

    • jugstorecowboy says:

That haircut just looks hostile. Photo made me laugh, too.

    • Christin says:

I think it’s the every hair in place (suggesting high maintenance) style more than just being a bob. It has a K. Gosselin vibe.

Never saw this meme until today, but I laughed. I have a co-worker who looks like that photo, and is a ‘let me speak to the manager’ type. And we’re in the South(east).

    • zinjojo says:

It’s an A-line bob, with chunky highlights. Usually much shorter in the back and then tapering down to a longer length in the front. And the chunky highlights always seem to go with this look.

      • pk says:

Some bobs are cute but the “can I talk to the manager” bob is bad. And bad highlights always seem to accompany it. The moms that have it have always struck me as thinking they were being “cool” or “edgy” with this cut/color.

    • perplexed says:

Isn’t that Victoria Beckham’s hairstyle (or the one she popularized)? Because of that, I assumed this particular bob was cutting edge and not “mom hair” or “speak to the manager” hair. Though now that I think about it, a lot of people get this haircut and I’m not sure now if it has transformed into “mom hair.” I wonder what Victoria Beckham would think…

  3. Div says:

He works with a lot of celebrities including Reese and Saorise (I think Jennifer, Kristen, and Rooney are his mainstays though). I don’t understand why he’s so popular since he seems to favor slicked back wet looking hair, mussed up hair, or pulled back incredibly tight hair and that’s about it. Maybe he’s very likeable?

  4. Kelsey says:

Ugh I’m so jealous of people that can rave about their hairstylist. I got an accidental short bob and have been growing it out but it grew into a mullet! I’m scared to go to anyone and all I want is a simple haircut like hers or seriously any other mom.

  5. astrid says:

I always have the urge to comb her hair. Don’t care for his/her style at all.

  6. Esmom says:

She doesn’t want a date, she just wants to show off her hair. I completely get that…on the rare occasions I do get my hair cut and blown out I always wish I had some sort of event or date instead just being stuck “wasting” my great hair on grocery runs and carpools.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

My hair looks it’s best right before I go to bed when my husband’s out of town, so I get it.

  7. Lizzie McGuire says:

The hair is fine, can we talk about the dress? That dress is awful!

  8. Diva says:

It just look like their hair can’t hold a curl. 😕 I don’t get their appeal. Their look, style, careers just scream boring.

  9. Beatrice says:

Her hair always has that blah, unstyled look like she just brushed it and walked out the door. OK for trips to the farmers market, but not good for fancy red carpet events. The dress is terrible–what was she thinking?

  10. Jegede says:

Jessica and Jennifer have lovely faces.

And this hair colouring suits them both.

  11. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Looking at his clients, I can see what she means. Their hair all looks “undone” and loose. I like that look.

  12. Lucy2 says:

I knew that dress was a Prada as soon as I saw the terrible darting on the boobs.

I know several women with the “can I speak to the manager haircut”, LOL.

  13. CidySmiley says:

That dress looks like a grocery bag.

I have the curliest hair in the world and a series of bad haircuts have kept me from not only not cutting my hair but my son’s as well. So we both have long curly hair and my husband is losing the race lol our hair looks it’s best soaking wet. Once it dries, bun it because it’s game over.

    • Curly Sister says:

CIDYSMILEY – I never comment but as another very curly girl I wanted to share what I do. For most of us the problem is disturbing the natural curl and not enough moisture. The four products I use are Wen (never use shampoo!!), I leave in full strength conditioner, my favorite is Loreal Evercreme and really do NOT rinse it out. Then very gently blot with a towel – don’t rough up the curls or separate them (so no combs definitely no brushes – let the curls do their thing) and then once it is a bit air dry I use Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and finish with a little light gel. Try it for a week! You’d be amazed. And although their products don’t work great for me, Deva Curl is a good resource for how to treat your curls. Good luck!!

  14. Micki says:

My mom hair is a salt and pepper pixie. Suits my sergeant personality.
And before I forget I won’t go to my hair stylist when the world around crashes. That goes agains my grain.

  15. Jayna says:

The dress on her isn’t that flattering, but the color of the dress is beyond flattering. She should wear that color more often.

  16. original kay says:

I laughed at the “manager” haircut. I don’t like it either. But even worse for me was that stupid style of parted, slicked down and then the back all short and spiked straight out. Ridiculous.

  17. Mrs. Darcy says:

She’s got a lot more blonde woven in than usual, lifting it up from the mousy shade she favored in recent years. I like her hair a bit darker generally, she can pull off a really rich brown but seems to go lighter since Alias. I love my hairstylist for her mad cutting skills but she’s not great with color sadly. It’s a crap shoot, I’m too afraid to have someone else cut my hair.

  18. Christin says:

JG looks like someone who goes in for a trim a couple of times a year. And maybe snips a little herself in between. Does she even see a stylist regularly?

  19. Zaytabogota says:

Her face was so beautiful before she got botox, now she looks a bit weird. Like the muscles in her face aren’t where they should be when she makes facial expressions. It’s distracting. Her ex has had obvious and bad work done too. They must have the same ‘doctor’. They should sue the butcher.

  20. Pandy says:

I’ve never seen any of these ladies with buzz-worthy haircuts. Maybe Kristen when she went from longer to short? And look at Jessica – she is so washed out, her color is wrong. And does Rooney Mara even have hair or does she just don a goth-black bun wig every day?

These ladies are not a walking billboard for his services.

  21. celine says:

@QQ. You just made my day…..almost peed.

  22. shannon says:

The “can I speak to the manager” haircut is very prevalent in WV as well. The angled bob has been “in style” now for about ten years here. I really wish it would die. I remember I wanted one of these so bad in 1994 b/c Angela Chase has one (although not near quite as angled). 1994 people! And I do not consider myself fashion forward at all.

  23. Carol says:

The dress is just awful. BTW – Adir used to do my hair when he was just starting out. He was always creative, wanted to try new things with my hair (I was young willing to try anything), he was incredibly nice, so not a snob, and all-around good guy. He went through a horrible break-up and stopped doing hair for a short while and I lost touch with him. My friends and I always wondered whatever happened to Adir until we saw him doing a celeb’s hair at the Oscars! Next thing I know he’s in Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar. Good for him! Now I can’t afford him anymore.

  24. lexx says:

Everytime I see JG I just want to sit down and have a heart to heart with her Iylana style.
Beloved are you happy? What happened to your career? Why are you still doing those capital one commercials? Don’t you want to be the shit again?

  25. Jennifer, burn that ugly dress!
